56: Mapping the Customer Journey - Mike Simmons
"You're listening to the daily sales tips podcast. I'm your host Scott Ingram. I'm going to experiment with something a little bit different with a couple of series of tips. I with Mike Simmons and soon with Dale depre- when we do these the goal is to make sure that the tips are still valuable in their standalone form, but offer even more value when listen to or viewed together in a series. So here's Mike Simmons, founder of catalysts sale of full service sales operations and enablement consultancy with tip one from this particular series. Here is another another tip, and this might end up turning into three tips into one I'm going to try to keep a relatively brief here. But there's a video that goes with the Swanson began a chance, you're listening to this on the podcast. Make sure you go out and watch the video when we as sales professionals think about how we go about our business. How often do we think about things from the customers? Perspective. How often do we empathize with them? Do. We put ourselves in their shoes and figure out what the journey is that they go through in order to make a makeup. I'm decision over time. We see this over time. We recognize patterns over time we can start to anticipate how a Bill becomes a loss of speak from a customer perspective. Now, let's say that I'm getting ready to drive from Phoenix out to San Diego. There's a couple of ways that I could go through and do that I can drive out to San Diego by going down through castle GRANDE and then overthrew Huma and then through El Centro in through the mountains in and find myself in San Diego or it can go the north route. I go the north route I'm going to find myself heading out on I ten going through Indio getting on the two fifteen heading south. And then I'll I'll be in San Diego. But if I happen to find myself in Albuquerque, I'm going the wrong. Direction. And this is were mapping the customer decision making process, really become valuable and interesting for you. So we start with hey, I've got a problem. So they put a little picture of customer here and the customer has a problem, and they go. Oh, no, right. Customer has a problem. I need help. They won't even say it it might even say help while the first place that they go after they make that cry for help they're going to try to figure out do. I know anybody else who's dealing with the problem. Can I go into my network? So they might go to their network. They might go to their colleagues inside their office. They might go to their boss that might go out there and do a Google search. We can see all the different kinds of places that someone might end up running to when they need help. It's not often that they're going to a sales rep anymore. There was a time no place way back in the day. Hey, where they would come to a sales rep. But let's say they go out there, and they do a Google search and they served out. How do I create predictability my forecast while if SEO's working while they might end up on the catalyst cell site? They might come across a number of different books out there and what they're looking for predictability in their forecast. They might be able to search for that. Ideally may not. But then they start reading information, and they may come across your information. Then go to your website. Let's say they go to website, they hit they fill in a lead form. So now, they go to the website, they fill in the lead form they enter in their information. And then you give them a call as a sales from right? So you give them a calls a sales rep. And first thing the Askham is how many people they have inside their organization and do they have budget and do they have the authority to make a decision in? Are. They decision maker all of these things are horrible qualification questions. And really what you? You do is you start with? How'd you find us? Why did you come to us? What brings you here? Get them talking not about the qualification stuff that most traditional reps run through. But get them talking about the challenges that they run into their organization. So they are ticky late challenges. Right. So they have questioned they might even have questions they might have statements. But from that point, then they they're looking for someone to help educate them on potential solutions. So go back to this point. Now us is the sales reps we can educate them on the solution based on what we understand about the problem or the challenge that they're running into. So we educate will go ahead and put this is one of those little graduation had on here. Kevin thorn will be really excited about my drawing capability here, but we educate them, and after we go through this education process than they are going to want to look for test for alternatives. Right. So they go. There and they test for alternatives. They may be look for a competitor of yours. They maybe have a number of different questions. They may want to go through the process of identifying a potential reference number of different directions. This could go to but competitor's references, etc. I don't know if this is the process that your customers go through. But I'm gonna accelerate something here. Let's just say that they get to a point where they realize. Yes, you're the right fit. You're gonna help them solve their problems and the really excited about working with you. They've built a lot of reporter you built a lot of trust. They go ahead may enter into a contract. Now, you're responsible for the immplementation maybe pass it on to someone inside the organization, but as we look back at this. There's this linear progress that someone goes where they move from. Hey, I've got a problem too. I need identify some solutions to engaging with someone to implementation. And now at this end idea. They are really really happy and they are excited and they're seeing the praises your organization, and that's the customer journey noticed that that has absolutely nothing to do with ourselves process, nor does it have anything to do with how you engage with the customer on the next step. I'll go ahead I'll get into things like sales process, but for this one I want to keep it at the customer journey and really just highlight that the customer journeys linear. It's kind of like the game of life. It's one of those things where overtime they continue to pick up chips. They might pick up kids. They might pick up a dog might get a bigger car. They might get a better job. But oh, it's like the game of life. If you replaced board game, it's a linear progression. I and we'll get into some of the other journeys that you can map out on future tip. What does your customers journey? Look like does it map to what Mike just described or do you think it's different? Join the conversation at daily sales dot tips forward slash fifty six. Six which is also where you'll find the video and links to all things Mike Simmons if your not predictably executing on your forecast. That's a pretty good reason to give Mike a call. Thanks for listening and come back tomorrow for part two of the series where Mike will talk about mapping the sales process.

This was Ni- signs in stores. All across the country warned of a national supply shortage through December first. But there were a few strange things things about those warnings. First Walmart typically doesn't post signs like that unless a shelf is actually empty or close to it in many locations behind those warnings were shelves. elves cramped full of dish soap second. The retailer didn't specify that it was only two brands of proctor and gamble soaps running so dangerously Risley low namely dawn and gain instead. There's no getting out of dish duty for a long at least not because there's not a drop of soap to be found. And this is business wars daily on this Tuesday, March nineteenth. March madness starts today. And if the college basketball tournament makes Eunice Daljeet for one of the game's greats Hanes is banking on that nostalgia the underwear company. Spotlighting Michael Jordan who I signed with Hanes thirty years ago that endorsement happened right after Jordan scored the ten thousand point of his NBA career to celebrate not to mention to sell more underwear Hanes is producing one hundred seventy different trading cards. They'll feature photos of Jordan on one side institition on the other customers hoping to get their hands on these five card packs will have to buy one of the limited edition packages of underwear. Hanes plans to release eight hundred thousand of them, but only ten will include a card autographed by Jordan himself, creating promotional items with the prize inside. Hardly a new strategy. Remember cracker Jack's but their popularity is on the upswing. That's because along with helping to sell out limited runs of products. In this case underwear they tend to grow social media mentions that's important for a stalwart brand like Hanes, which was founded in nineteen one the company sales are surging after some rocky years, but it still faces stiff competition from upstart rivals like Tommy John with a combination of high end materials and humorous ads. Tommy, John took direct aim last year at century old competitor. So Hanes needs all the attention. Easter is over we're done. We're done with Easter. Now, we covered a lot more stuff than just Easter. I'm second to talk about that. Because I'm kind of over Easter at this point slutty bunnies are cool. But you know, it's cooler helpful in St. news. So let's get to it. I wrote an article detailing some of the specifics about being a B Debbie model. Some little like information about what you need to do to really classify yourself as a V W model hint. It's nothing. You just have to be a big beautiful woman. And there's no specific criteria for that. As long as you're larger woman, you pretty much fit the BWI ish. It is a great needs to be a part of because you can add it and with every other news that you could possibly cater to in fetishes get utilize the BWI tag. And there's a whole bunch of customers out there who are looking for baby Demi models to poor and spend money on simply for the fact that. Demi models with their favorite kind of models. So if you are w model, and you're concerned that maybe you don't have the right body type for this don't fret because BB was frigging pop and right now in the industry, so you know, just put yourself out there. And I think you'll do well next in our news. It bans adult not safe for work advertisements Nath a whole internet. Kind of went into an upset. I guess someone may have misread it. They thought like no more content on read it that is not the case just the advertisements. So all the advertisements that you see on red now will be safer work advertisements stream. It has announced that you cannot do mobile goal chose from the neon livestream minneap. So if you are gold show eligible and you ever street from your phone from the neon live app. You can now host goal chose through that. So that's super awesome and very convenient for models who do the mobile. Broadcasting option, we've covered all my links, and we browse through their terms of service to see it is dull friendly because so many models are using all my linked to share of their links it discovered it looks like they actually aren't adult friendly. So it appears that the site is actually turning a blind eye to the community in Kennedy sledding slide for right now. But in the future, this could become an issue. So if you are on all my links possibly consider some alternatives. We updated our adult friendly social media site lists. Just try to stay current with the times to make sure we're giving you the best most current information. So if you are about the adult friendly social media sites that we have listed make sure you've head over to Cam startup dot com. And check that out or you can check out the links in the post below because that'll give you some more information on where you can find all of that information. It's important that when you're using sites. Make sure that they are adult friendly because using the aren't as friendly, your USC, losing all of your followers. On that platform without any warning, which really really sucks to be blunt about it. It really really sucks. You should also consider getting back up accounts in having your own website. So that in can direct all the followers there. So if you are ever deleted front platform, they'll still nowhere to find. You we've gotten more information on camp contact they are one of the older sites that are still operating online currently can only receive payments through either a pack some business account through Berlin models. The company has not ruled out the idea that it may offer these financial services and more to riders at some point down the road. It's first big step to issue a debit card to its drivers through a bank. Called Green Dot using this debit card. Drivers can get paid instantly after every trip. They take eventually they'll be able to manage their green dot bank account on digital wallet that will be rolled out on the UBER APP. The sentiment on Wall Wall Street has swung from valuing growth potential to prophets and prophets have been way down Uber had a record five billion dollar loss in its second quarter quarter and its stock has fallen dramatically companies quarterly. Earnings are due out today so it is perhaps no coincidence that the firm made the splashy Uber money announcement a week ago. Part of UBER's difficulties stem from its high driver. Turnover rate issuing digital wallets debit and credit cards and small. All loans can be seen as one more incentive for drivers to keep working hard for the struggling company as Uber. Money Rolls Out many questions about its success for the company and its fear. burster drivers will follow and there's one other question to with Uber becoming more and more like a bank. And this is business wars daily on this Tuesday April seventh rarely has a company named gone from relative obscurity to seemingly total ubiquity. This quickly a month ago. The videoconferencing APP zoom was fairly well known in the business world but hardly what you call a household name previously. It was one of a handful of kind of famous video conferencing APPs such as Skype Webex gotomeeting Microsoft teams for example. But now let's zoom is a more and more common phrase meaning. Let's hold a Webinar or an online class founded in twenty eleven zoom was designed to be first and foremost easy to use because it's interface is so intuitive. It seemed to be the obvious choice. For All those newly remote workers students and lonely family members and friends as a result zoom zoom from supporting ten million daily users at the end of December to two hundred million users now according to CEO. Eric you on. That may sound like an overnight. Success worth celebrating. But you on isn't exactly happy about it. The enormous influx of users the majority of whom are not paying a dime has stressed. The company's infrastructure frightened users captured the attention of the F. B. I. and more than half of the country's top law enforcement chiefs briefly zooms sudden. Ubiquity has revealed that the software has had some security loopholes in it big enough to drive a tractor trailer through and hackers appear to be doing just that the company has been the victim of so-called zoom bombings. What's Zoom Bob? Well let's say you're hosting a quarantine for your best friends and suddenly you're screen is flooded with anti Semitic racist or threatening language or pornographic images. You're horrified of course you have no idea why it's happening or how to stop it. Will that is a zoom bombing? Many users who are unable to regain control of their screens have just had to abort their meetings while the problem became so acute that the FBI issued a warning about it last week. That warning mentioned to`soon bombing attacks of Massachusetts high school classes in one of them. A hacker dialed into the online classroom. Shattered a profanity and announced. The Teacher's home address in another harasser appeared on screen sporting swastika. Tattoos yesterday. The New York Times reported that the attacks appear to be organized. Their investigation found one hundred fifty instagram accounts and forums on Reddit. Four Chan where criminals were coordinating. The attacks twitter has also drawn share of zoom bombers but it has closed down that forum twitter and facebook which owns instagram also condemned the attackers and said they were taking action to stop them. Victims are calling upon zoom and the social media sites to better police their platforms and protect people from hate speech. Users can help. In fact part of the problem was that users new to the platform just didn't know how to manage the tools security settings. The companies now change defaults to encourage hosts to limit control of screens employ passwords and control who enters meetings. The company also urges hosts not to make meetings public on social media but to share links. Only with those invited zoom bombing is bad enough but unfortunately for you want and the company. It's far from the only problem white. Had Hackers have uncovered other security and privacy issues including the lack of full end to end encryption which zoom at one point said that it had turns out. It's encryption isn't comprehensive enough to ensure the privacy of classified information and that it's possible. Some of those meetings are being routed. Servers in China will zoom now finds itself under scrutiny by Attorneys General in twenty seven different states. The company says Furthermore New York City public schools have banned the service and moved there one million students onto Microsoft teams in response to the issues. Eric Yuan has promised full cooperation with all of the investigating. Agee's and shifted the focus of the company's work for the next ninety days engineers are focusing on fixing zooms security and privacy problems. The work has already begun last week. Zoom reported on the company blog that it had closed a loophole that allowed hackers to control users. Mikes and cameras engineers removed tracking software. Said we've been sharing data with facebook but full encryption will take a few months. Presumably Zoom is in hot water now because of its long emphasis on making the software easy to use at the expense of security and because of good intentions at the start of the Kovic nineteen crisis. Eric Yuan who grew up in China wanted to help so zoom offered free video conferencing to all of the countries universities and colleges along with thousands of hospitals and clinics as the crisis worsened zoom extended. It's free platform to millions around the world. The sudden growth not only exposed its weaknesses but drew scrutiny as well in the last month you on 'til The Wall Street Journal. Trust back that could take a while while some observers have lauded you on for publicly owning the problems others are criticizing him and his company for not building a more secure product in the first place. They say privatizing the service would allow it to better negotiate with employees set more realistic benefits to critics of privatization, say private carriers won't feel compelled to deliver to the people in remote places. The bottom of the Grand Canyon say or the far reaches of Alaska. Furthermore, while the postal service and the private carriers do compete for your shipping.
