"And i know you haven't really seen him a whole lot but just your thoughts on him about you know. Does he have any kind of a lip. Favoring that ankle or does he look like he's basically a hundred percent normal. Yeah i mean. I guess the question. I get the kind of cautious optimism. Sort of running him but it does seem like everything is normal. everything is kind of all systems. go And i think you know the tell the most telling thing to me and not that you know You can read too much into a players. They're saying right now because everybody's in the best shape of their life But but i found it interesting. How every cowboys player. That is coming back from some sort of injury and obviously there are a lot of them. has noted that they were inspired by back prescott approach to rehab and approach to coming back from his injury and so it it really does seem like you went about it the right way. He attacked it with discipline and aggressiveness. And the way he does everything So yeah i think it's completely safe to just feel like everything is right where it did. Not beyond that when it comes to dak prescott. How much rope is there for. Jalen smith leighton vander esch Man You know like knowing you're having like your family reunion and you're doing the tug of war and you're the last one left you know before like the middle you know or whatever with all the mud and you're down to your last grip i mean it's that it's not you're thinking like man i it's not even one big pool it's going to you know pull the end of this thing now if they just kinda barely gains this i'm falling in. I think that's it. I mean it. It's you know the cowboys have a little bit of you. Know love about these players. Obviously and They've endorsed jalen. Smith wearing number nine however much documented put into that but i mean they drafted a linebacker. You know what what what was effectively thompson pick. They hedged cox obviously in the fourth round. So i mean they. They've made their intentions clear. Stephen jones can say he wants that. Leighton vander esch and their plans for the future but but their decisions are really obvious. And so i'm just gonna talk a lot of people ultimately want at the full rj. Just hit i think a dark spot. You're there are everybody's yeah you started to cut out a little bit rj. I got one more question for you. If you can hear me just gonna take a chance if you can hear me. What's the plan for bradley. And ni- how does he fit into that. Dan quinn defense so i did. I did hear you breaking that. The question was who's somebody's fitting. Dan quinn which is really in type of matt knowing who the bradley. How does bradley. And i fit in with dan. Quinn that defense man if he is is on it I think every really happy i mean. Just because he's somebody who wanted to see play snaps last year that didn't at all I think he's part of the rotation. I think he has to. Ideally jumped doorns armstrong and training camp And so the future is hopefully really bright for bradley. He's such a county player. He was such a great value for that fact he just needs opportunities. Yeah it should be excited. I was excited about that player. When the cowboys got him. I think he could be a difference maker but we'll see and training camp is a great place to try to battle it out and see if he can earn that spot in that you know. Get a little bit part of that rotation. Thanks for your time man. Enjoy your weekend. We look forward to talking to you next week. Happy father's day..

How to Grow Your Business by Building Your Dream Team with Meredith Viguers
"Meredith say what's up to fire nation and sure something interesting about yourself that most people don't know. Hey, everyone. Thanks for having me and at. So what most people at least in my life today don't know is that I went to a performing arts school as a dance major. So while I am at the entrepreneur in the business lady today, I am a classically trained dancer classically trained dancer just a quick question. What do you think you learned skill wise or disciplined wise. While being a classically trained dancer that you apply most in your life today most has to do with discipline because it is one of those things that is so technical and if you miss a day of class, you might as well have missed a week or a month and it sort of snowballs so you have to be really. Consistent with your training and the things that you do to keep yourself on track fire nation how we live our days how we live our lives in today, we'll be talking about growing your business by building your Dream Team love this title love the concept behind. It's because we need needs to work with fire nation today about letting go about what they think. They know about being open to changing their minds. So talk to us about this concept what does this mean when it comes to growing business and building your Dream Team so for small business owners, one of the biggest challenges is when it's time to grow and the only way they know to do things is to do it all themselves. And you know when I first started my entrepreneurial journey that was all I knew in fourteen years ago I started catering company and all I knew was to grow the business I just worked harder I worked more hours, I did more jobs and and before too long I was done and ready to walk away because the only way I knew to build the business was with all roads leading to me and it wasn't sustainable. It wasn't profitable and I was exhausted. So what I had to learn is that in changing my mind in the such a big key and it sounds so simple and so it's one of those things that simple but not. Always easy. Is that changing? My Mind meant I had to let go of what I thought I knew about how to run the business and then entrepreneurs generally speaking have this thing of I never gonna find anyone to do it as well as I do and chances are they're right. But letting go of that thought that someone else has to do everything. The way that you do is such a freeing thing when you can change your mind and really understand that by building the right team and letting go of some of those things your business can really thrive and oftentimes you'll find better ways to grow than you ever knew possible before and I. Do Love that phrase in that concept it's so true fire nation things can be simple yet complex, and this is one of those things and within changing your mind fire nation when be talking about identifying your limitations, taking responsibility and actually owning its and then being open to growth. I mean, these are three keys in this process. So married at the break it down for us identifying our limitations. So when we talk about identifying limitations, a common thread among entrepreneurs says that we're optimists by definition, we wouldn't look for opportunities and go out and create all of the things that we do in the world if we weren't optimistic about things to calm the. Downside. Of optimistic is that you can often not realized that you have placed limitations on yourself and so when you sit down and look at Your Business, oftentimes, entrepreneurs will say, Oh, no I'm you know I'm I'm seeing the bigger picture and I've got all these great visions and goals and things somewhere along the way you have limited yourself and your business whether you realize it or not. It's it's one of those kind of subconscious things that we all do for me. What that looks like about four years ago was that my catering company was ten years old. We were doing seven figures a year in revenue on the surface things looked really good. Except that I was miserable and one of the limitations I had placed on the business was that we were successful by out side perception and I felt that was all we could do. So in my mind, even though I hadn't verbalised it, I put the limit that says, well, we're a catering company in central Texas that's doing seven figures a year in revenue. This is probably as good as it gets, and so I had placed limit that said this is this is where we stop. This is where the growth ends and the reality was is once I really. Started to change the way I thought about things. I had to take a step back and say has anyone in this industry ever done more than what we're doing right now and the reality is, of course they add. So once I could acknowledge that someone else had done it. So it's not that it was impossible in the limitation that I had place was really just about what was in my mind and not what was in reality. So when I looked at the reality that it had been done before, I had to allow myself to release the thought of the. That I had placed on it because that was just a women in my mind as soon as I let go of that things took off. So there's a limit somewhere that every business owner places and it's up to us changing our mind to say I'm open to seeing this in a different way so that we can actually identify what the limitations are that we've put in place, and then we can really start working on the. Process of changing fire nation somewhere along the way you have limited yourself and or your business. Again, subconsciously, this might have happened in the key is finding out where those limits are and one way to do that I. Love how you share this specific example meredith to unlock. This is finding someone or some company who's already done it before you in finding out how they've done, it's you can release this false limitation that you're putting. There for some reason, this false ceiling that you have

"I am so glad that way. We've got a chance to talk to Celia Co. Celia is the I don't want to say executive director of Fading Texas Celia. Good morning, ma'am. How are you? Mark can. It's good to be back on your show? Graham. I'm tickled to death and I want to visit with you today and and just talk about what's going on. What's the pandemic? Have everybody everybody out there? I know you'll do such a wonderful job getting food to people that need it. And you hollered. I see on the news all the time here in Austin. In the Austin, the Central Texas food Bank and different places, given food away to people that need it. And I know it's gotta be a strain on you all because Well, how's the easiest way to help? That's the food banks. I know you take care of 21 of them. You're over 21 Food base. Is that right, 21? That's right. We've got 21 all around the state, and so we kind of coordinate all of their efforts to support all of them in whatever way we can. Each food bank obviously serves its own local communities. And so if you're in one of their communities, and you want to support your food bank directly, the best way to do that. I'm making a financial donation. But food banks are always also in need of volunteers, particularly now doing covert. They've lost a lot of their older volunteers, so they definitely need young. Healthy. Volunteers come in and help with packing food and things like that. And then you know, obviously, we're so grateful to all of the hunters out there on Earth for the hungry over the years. We've had a real uptick in donations this year. I think Leonard because they know how much we're struggling to keep up and how badly no needy Texans have been hit with during the pendant, you know was with everything going on right now, By the way, we're on W and I know the San Antonio Food bank. I went into that place. Well, the first time we met you, that is a huge Food bike. I mean, you can see the curvature of the earth in that building. It's the dang long looking down those thing. How's that? I'm sitting out. Wow and Yeah, they have an impressive operation, and they have been on the frontlines since day. One of coded They were the first ones to get people who were evacuated from those cruise ships landed up at Lackland. And so they were providing meals to people in quarantine at the food bank before a lot of Texas had even heard of it. So they've been out there in the front line. You've seen all the pictures of the parking lot in the Alamodome. And you know, with cars just stretching for over. I also you know, they've been out there every day, all summer in 100 degree heat. Serving thousands of families, sometimes at once. So kudos to the same attorney food bank in all of their colleagues around the state. They've really stepped up to meet. Just a crazy amount of need out there and I got to say, and we've got to think our listeners in our in our people that donate to Ah, suppliers, restaurants, much restaurants, but but ah Big box grocery stores and such as that, and I know they donate. You'll have to buy food from them in different ways. And now is it better to say our listeners? They're our family that's listening to us right now. It would be better to donate canned goods to yell Or would you rather have the five or $10? That they would spend on groceries because that five or $10 would mount to a lot more if you all had the cash instead of the arteries. Yeah. I mean, we'll take any support We can get on. We're grateful for the food donations as well, Of course. But yeah, we can take weaken. Do a lot more with a dollar. We can't with a can of food. We can turn that into a lot more food. So we always ask people if they can donate even, you know, $5 help. And that definitely weaken stretch those dollars further than we can those donated food items, and it also lets us I should think of a good idea of what their communities need in the way of food on DH, So it helps us buy the right kind of food. And so, folks, what works and that note guys, if you can afford a dollar $5. That's wonderful if you can afford more God bless you. And please get hold of the food banks and Would give you some online places to get hold of here in a little bit, but and hunters. You know what I think How we think of young y'all are the hunters. Y'all are the ones that take care of the tribe, the state of Texas being the tribe now. You'll get out there. You take care of these people. You bring the hunt the deer into the processors. They turn it into a £2 chips, Grind it up and turn it and put it into pound chubs. Thank each and every one of y'all and guys on no. I've mentioned this before. If you haven't bought your hunting license yet be sure had my sure whoever or wherever you're getting that license. That they ask you. How much money would you like? Donate tons for the hungry?.

Really appreciate what you're doing I. Love that man now. That's great. I'm glad to hear that you've done that. That's the intention. Intention and so I appreciate you for doing that, so you know we are having a discussion. Folks Tony and I connected and said you know what the role of the physician is changing, and and so what I wanNA. Do today is just highlight how that's changing through the life of Dr Manual here and so you know I love for you Tony at to just kind of walk us through some of the work that you're doing and how it's changed from just practicing to actually doing more You know as we engage this. You know three five trillion dollar industry that call healthcare. Yeah, it's it's been an interesting journey for me and you know have to credit one of my anesthesia attending when I was in residency, his name's Dave mayor said Gimme, grapevine goes Tony You have to continually strives to maximize your career and Let's see well. What does that mean well? You definitely want to start trying to be the best clinician you can be once. You achieve that you should really look at you. Know becoming really strong in other areas, and I always took that to heart in so I think back to when I first started here in Austin I became the division chief of cardiovascular. Cardiovascular Anesthesia Rochester, saying I helped create division of cardiovascular. Because at that time we were Basically, everybody was doing it, and I fell coming out of myself. This'll be really better if we limited number of people at work in that space and you know put together some protocols and got the team together, and we saw some really good outcomes from that work and I fast forward to what I'm doing today, and that work has changed so much partly because I think every clinician you have to get educated, and I use a rudimentary tools back then, but in after getting that masters degree from Carnegie Mellon I really developed at toolkit that allows me to take on. On much more complex problems that we face and healthcare today. Yeah, that's so interesting, and so you have that entrepreneurial bug from the beginning right so you kind of re retooled the way that you guys approached cardiovascular anesthesia and I'm sure with with much improvements and outcomes, but then you've taken other steps to. You've been involved in startups, and now you're doing different roles. Can you talk to us a little bit more about that? Yeah I worked my way of the medical staff leadership and ultimately became the president of medical staffing while that was a great experience after I graduated with my master's degree. The entrepreneur apart really was intriguing to me. In more important is the. The interface between the clinicians in technology and so The startup is called Dynamic Lights based here in Austin, and it's actually technology out of the University of Texas and They had great idea concept. Basically, it's how to noninvasive map blood flow during Sri will hand you an aneurysm surgery and uses what's called speckled laser technology and I was like honestly Craig. It's continuous. It's noninvasive, but they never really thought about the interaction. How you get it. It's dockers hands. How do you test it? And that was sort of my strength and so I, said well. Let's work together and figure this out and to date. You know we've incorporated. We're FDA approved, and we're. Ducking clinical trial and we're looking to partner with a couple of larger health tech firms,

Andrea DeLong-Amaya, Women Working in the World of Plants
"We continue cultivating places. Women's history month interviews. Were joined this week by Andrea Delong Amaya director of horticulture for the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas. At Austin it is also the botanic garden for the State of Texas Andrea has been on staff for over twenty years and has more than thirty years of experience in horticulture. She Guides fifteen staff members in the design and management of nine acres of Native Plant Gardens. Two hundred and seventy five acres of natural areas and in native plant nursery. She teaches classes in native plant horticulture and writes and presents on her passion for the field widely. She spoke with US late. Last autumn to share more about the history and work of the centre including it. Being the legacy of another extraordinary woman ladybird Johnson Andrea shares. Her own enthusiasm for this field of work. Welcome Andrea Hi. How you doing? I'm great how are you wonderful? I'd love for you to start by describing describe the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center as visually as you can for listeners. Who may not have been there. And then we'll talk a little bit about your specific work there Andrea Sherr so we are in a South Austin and in the middle of Texas. We're in a part of the state that we refer to as Texas El country or the Edwards Plateau which is a beautiful beautiful part of the state. Of course Texans will say every part of the state is beautiful but I WANNA say text. The central Texas area is particularly beautiful especially in the spring were really renowned for having excellent wildflower displays including the Texas blue on it which occurs all over the state but the central Texas areas particularly flora for us in the spring. And so we are like I said in Austin and the site that were on is a public garden where about two hundred and eighty five acres. I think we actually added a little bit more In the last year or so and it's a public garden where we feature plants that are native to the state of Texas. That's the site now. The organization is bigger than that But the gardens here. We're demonstrating hell different. Native plants can be used in different kinds of landscapes different kinds of styles. We have collections of plants. From different parts of the State we are the Botanic Garden Texas. So we're trying to increase our collections to represent other parts of the state as well as the central Texas area so we have about nine acres of cultivated gardens and then we have a sixteen Acre Texas Arboretum of trees So those are the horticultural areas in then. We have natural areas in The other parts of the the property And that the natural areas also include some research areas. We have some Areas where we're doing Land Management prescribed fire treatments and different kinds of land-management to see how that influences the vegetation. Yeah we can talk more about that. If you're if you like definitely definitely I will i. I would love to get into some of the specifics of each of those areas you just described but before we get there. Describe your your your job there what it entails and may be the trajectory of your twenty years there. Andrea. Yeah well. I started as a gardener appropriately and really enjoy working outside. I mean I've always been interested in being outdoors and that goes way back to my childhood is probably most people who have an affinity for the natural world That usually starts childhood so I grew up doing things outdoors with my parents particularly with my dad. We'd go camping or canoeing. And I remember having a field guide of of wildflowers weeds that surrounded our area where we lived and that was great. Fun everything from astronomy to birds and lizards and insects. Just everything is so interesting And I just find that the more I learn about things the more I'm fascinated and in awe of the natural world so that's just started early but it's just been a long a lifelong interest in learning more and observing more. I mean I laugh. We have a big picture window at our dining room table. And that's our TV. We don't have an actual electronics of the Inter House. It's overlooking a garden and pond and we just sit there and watch the animal antics and what's blooming and it's great fun and it's a nice way to slow down in our fast paced world That's a that's a big part of what I think. Nature does for me and for a lot of people So you started as a gardener. What year was that Andrea and then tell us about the progression of your rules at the Center Which clearly you progressed in because of your deepening curiosity and ever expanding knowledge base. Yes so I started in December of nine hundred ninety eight and Worked as a gardener I've guarded in most of the areas that we have in Under cultivation over the years and at some point we had Position of gardens manager was available so I moved into that and then I don't know maybe fifteen years ago I transitioned into the direct report culture and Unfortunately that means a little bit less guarding than I used to do. But it also gets me in a higher level of designing decision making which is very exciting and allows me to have more influence over some of the bigger picture things that are happening And then overseeing the natural areas arboretum and the nurseries also been pretty pretty fun and adds different interest to what what I'm looking at. Yeah so talk about Before we get into the specifics of some of the programmatic areas and display areas there and then the research give listeners. A history of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center when it started what it's original mission in scope was of course the wonderful woman for whom it is named and by whom it was founded in its original iteration and So that that people have an understanding of just how much bigger is then. A Garden appreciating wildflowers. Because that is a fabulous mission but it's it is much bigger than that so we're very blessed to have had the visionary Labor Johnson as founder. She founded the wildflower center. Initially as the wildflower research center. The National Welfare Research Center and that was an endeavor that she took on with her friend and actress. Helen Hayes which a lot of people don't remember that part of of the history but it's Kinda Funny Mrs Johnson didn't feel like she had enough name. Recognition Systems of Helen Hayes. And so her mission right from the beginning was to really try to understand an unlocked the secrets of wildfires in native plants and understand how they grow and that was the original research. The the wildflower center did at that time and so that was a nineteen eighty two so the organization started back. Then we moved to our current site as a public garden Before it was more just a research site with some portables but it didn't really have botanical garden kind of exhibits. Someone moved to Our current site in one thousand nine hundred ninety five that was really a big focus of making the space Amenable to guests and having exhibits that people can interact with and having educational programming and really elaborating on that when she first started it. Why we'll just remind listeners? She was of course the first lady of the United States and she Had A as firstly. She had some remarkable initiatives to beautify. I think was the word that was used then. roads and highways across the country and she was taken by the wildflower diversity there in her home state for good reason. Because it's a pretty remarkable native flora. Will you talk a little bit about that? And and why people thought this was not just a pretty project but was worthy of deep research. Even at that time so yeah. Mrs Johnson grew up in a rural setting and without siblings so she was a long time so her best friend is. A child was outside Just the outdoors and I think that was what what instilled upon in her the scrape passion for the for the natural world and then as she became first lady She really had a great influence on President Johnson in terms of Passing legislation one of the things he's known for is the beautification. Act The highway beautification. Act and getting billboards off of the roadsides and cleaning up roadsides and planting wildflowers and the way I understand it you know we talk about it is being beautification and she knew at the time. She was very savvy that at the time. She knew that that was a word that would engage people. The public secretly I. I've heard that she felt like that was actually kind of a word and that it is she. I think she understood. It was deeper than just beautification was away to connect people with the idea that she

"The central Texas regional mobility authorities planned to add told roads to one eighty three north has been approved by the Texas transportation commission this morning, but some public speakers like, Don Dixon, oppose the idea outright, saying it sounds too much like California, they want government to be able to say who can use those roads, and they're doing it by high taxes and by rules, like we're going to have here made plans on adding to toll lanes in each direction of one eighty three north between highway forty five and mo- pack. Textile is also adding a fourth general use lane in the same area. A Bill to help family violence victims has filed by an Austin lawmakers. State Representative Eddie Rodriguez filed a Bill that would expand the list of documentation that survivors can use to get out of their leases and find a safer place to live early. As proof from health and mental health care providers. The mobility authority considers a fifteen million dollars solution to backups at mo- pack and Winstead lane. That's an interchange. That's really struggled with big backup since the opening of the toll lane on mo-. But now see as Justin words as the idea is an exit lane, beginning not at Barton skyway. Just a little north of that we would give that to be cave and that either exits or go straight, and then the barn skyway enters that new also relying or in other words, a lengthy exit lane from bee cave road all the way to three sixty with virtually no negative impact..

Those, schools, in that time I think there was Twelve thousand people well. When I moved there Yeah one hundred, twenty thousand today is going to say Dell almost employees that. Many. People easily just in that one campus exactly so it turned into a suburb that very. Slowly morphed into a big suburb of Austin there wasn't much. Between Austin and. Round, rock at that time The gap between one sorry between the high school, off of six twenty and downtown was flu Ville, a little bit you, know then there was pockets of nothing and. Now, you can't you know you blathering you're downtown developed yeah exactly all around so I grew six twenty it was a. Two. Lane highway with nothing on it but cattle and there was a couple of neighborhoods the. Woodland's bushy creek which is the neighborhood I grew up in Cattalo Woodland's Oakland's And then it was the high school and. That was it and so and then there was. No Palmer lane so later on McNeil high school came. Ten years later that's why I ended up going. To high school so watch that area developed yet millwood they came up about time And then if you kept going you ran. Into one eighty three which you had Elsa Lido. In that kind of stuff oh it was new at. The time now it's obviously older cedar park in. The enter existed those were the fields we rode our bikes in That's what. We took the dirt bikes off, road and back in the Dow, well that's what we add the the highschool tailgate parties. Before, you could go out and joy. Schools elementary schools, now it's morphed into Leandra. Leander's grown ups get new construction. Out, there they're all those miles of fields now developers have just, been picking them off acreage by acreage building. Two. Hundred to. Five hundred compound homes. Out yeah And now we're, getting up into, liberty hill production builders out now as. We're going up there. So, then you scoot over east a little bit and now you're running, into Georgetown which Georgetown there's Santa Rita. Ranch those areas up there I. Mean you can get a. Five hundred, thousand dollar house that six, thousand square feet it's two million. Bucks in the city you know if you don't mind going, thirty forty. Five minutes outside of town. You can get, that same house for half. A million dollars yeah of course. There's, also the sub five hundred areas but you know round rock, then and now totally different it has a. Downtown We're talking about that earlier, is fully developed, some restaurants absolutely it's got some nightlife. There's some bars bars It. Was. Just round rock doughnuts.
