It's just different and what's different about this. Is even though. Kits from some of the same vendors more expensive than what they do is they specialize in mile that. And Saban Young, which are two grapes that are well, Dabur nate sub Yang and Bordeaux and Mullebeck used to be before blocks all that but there to. Bordeaux wines or grapes. And they specialize that, and this is from those vineyards scale not maybe the the fancy parts of those vineyards but good solid parts those. But they don't use oak barrels. It's a fermented in stainless steel. That brings out the bright lively fruit and it's a two thousand eighteen of vintage, which means you know. It's it's a drink wine, but it's got a little bit of aging and that aging isn't cement tanks. They're lying tanks you're not getting reaching out whatever's in the some met. And that is something will actually getting more popular like central coast to California and then the. Valley in a place in France. And why that's good for ages. especially. Like this Mullebeck has got. Really rich flavors has got tannin's. Need any more edge to it that Oakwood rain. And the cement tanks. Thick. Enough. Insulate the wind and the need. From variations in temperature outside. He'll stainless steel that serve fairly. Thin stainless steel. Barrels earlier you know are are. Not Thick, they don't get a lot of temperature art. Deep Valley Red Blend 2018
"Day. From. Sheep flying, find it Ascom again. Today we have. Five ninety nine red blend from trader Joe's The teat. Surround Low Sarah. It goes by the name of. Deep Valley Red Wine Blend Mendocino twenty eight teams. Normally Five ninety nine red wine kinda scares me a little bit because. You expect a few things out of red wine some oak aging some. Just some general aging. There is no budget applied ninety wine and a white wine. A little bit different like a Soviet block, a young savvy blockers young. They just make it. Right -Chusetts fresh. Lines good there. It doesn't that doesn't need to cost a lot of money. Learn, you need to do a little bit too and so it's always a little bit scary but I think they spied it's actually a food. Wise. I think it does better. With burgers or like a steak burrito does. On its own and I'm fine with it not the most malicious wine ever taste taste fine. But it's you know it's pretty pretty good. It's made by one of the oldest wineries in Mendocino. If you ever want to know who makes these winds for trader Joe's or any other Any other store where they don't really tell you what's what? Trademark. Registry. Website you get in there within our. Trademark lackadaisical it has come up. But. That doesn't mean that's a one that winery comes up would ever make on their own these custom crush people trader Joe's goes down and says, I want a wine like this at this price. They think, yeah. Okay. We can do that but it might not be a wine that they would ever do on their own. So don't read too much into who makes other than if they make good quality wine. They're probably not skipping on the quality that. They held back. And that's that and this is. It's a good ninety, nine Tuesday night. Pizza, burgers. Fine for them is this really well. You Know Harry. You go in and out Burger, we don't have it ended up Burger Chicago. It picked this would go great with that. There's another thing another observation about trader Joe's wines, and here's a five, ninety, nine wine from a single Aba. Under ten dollars. Californian the label which means that the grapes come from all over. It comes from the North Coast Central. Coast Central Valley. and. That's usually because to make wine cheap you gotta have. A lot of it. You gotTa make. Five hundred thousand bottles. And these big wine corporations do that they'll have holdings everywhere and you know they own vineyards contractors everywhere. So to make the most of their money and utilize scrapes pick from all over but trader, Joe's isn't like. They, go to a single ABA. And you don't know out of this is a single vineyard wine but not that, and there are a lot of vineyards in. In the Mendocino but. You know usually when these cheaper the winds are the simpler things is way to happens. You know they're not be off. You've got to bring in grapes from twenty seven different. Vineyards that might happen but you gotta figure cheaper just to grab one or two. So. To storebrand. You get a much more exclusive line for cheaper price than you do in a retail line. But you don't really know what you're getting basically. You're taking a chance but you get these single ABA wines and he don't know who's making what where, when all the time. But. If you go the trademark website, find out who's doing at Subic meals. Usually go because a lot of times these people. Make. These winds for trader. Joe's whatever their own brand self, their thirty five forty dollars. Make wines I mean it's. Just happen to have some extra great somewhere getting their hands on something. And you know trader Joe's better for. So. There you go. You got the deep sally you red wine blend from. Five, ninety, nine crazy price. There is some. You know it's It's a twenty eight. So it's fairly young for Redwan. Super Young read one.

"Exploration is dangerous work. There are unknowns challenging landscapes severe weather to contend with, and that's just the tip of the iceberg at extreme locations or just factual, non metaphorical icebergs and everything gets much more difficult. Early. Expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic circles near the north and South Poles were some of the most incredible undertakings in history. Of course there were plenty of failures, but every time someone tried. It helps the people who came after. Learn a little bit more. By the early nineteen hundreds several different parties from many different places had succeeded in exploring the frigid areas and returning to tell the tale. Eight! Adele Tuck was born not too far from this brutal cold, She I opened her eyes in eighteen ninety in Alaska, not far from the city of nome, which is on the West Central Coast at one time. Alaska was known to Americans as seward's folly because Secretary of State William, seward purchased the land from Russia for seven million dollars in eighteen, sixty seven. People thought it was a terrible mistake and a waste of money, but when golden were discovered, there seward was like who's laughing now y'all seward's folly more like seward's stroke of genius that you all were super wrong about L. K. man. We get it. Anyway Alaska would still not even become an official US territory until Ada was a teenager, she was initiate one of the indigenous groups of people native to land. But growing up, she never learned the survival ways and traditions of her tribe. She was raised by missionaries people who moved to the area to set up a school in order to convert people to their religion. It's a circumstance that happened to many native Americans and as a result, many traditions were lost for generations some forever. In school eight learned to read and write English read the Bible and learned cooking and other domestic skills, the reading and writing served her well, but as you might have guessed in a story about exploration, these domestic skills would not go near as far in helping her as more traditional skills like hunting, tracking and survival might have. As a young adult! Sixteen! She married a man named Jack Black. Jiang. Yep. You heard that, right? Jack Black Jack. No. He was not a cartoon outlaw, nor was he a professional poker player. He was a dog musher hauling freight across Alaska on a sled pulled by dogs. Together! They had three kids. Sadly, only one survived a boy named Bennett. But one day, Jack Blackjack left the family high and dry. Up and left her in the middle of nowhere which in Frigid Alaska can be a pretty serious predicament. Though he was not the greatest of guys she did keep his greatest of names and earned her future fame as Ada blackjack. When Jack blackjack deserted her. She was forty miles from their home in known, and she and Ben Walked the entire way back in the bitter Alaskan cold to make matters worse than it was very sick with burke. And infection of the lungs, so ada quite a small woman carried the boy much of the way.

Trump administration opens up drilling on federal land in California
"The trump administration is lifting a five year ban on hydraulic fracking and oil drilling on more than a million acres of federal land across central California in Fresno current Santa Barbara and Bakersfield counties one parcel is near your somebody another near the subway and national park on fire mentalist are outraged and so is California Attorney General have your but Serra who says he'll fight it here to talk about this is terminal he's professor of environmental analysis at Pomona College welcome back to press play thank you madam well tell us about this land and why the administration is doing this well there's a couple of things that play first of all this talk about fracking as a technology which admittedly opens up wells that in many cases seem to have been played out and so industry loves this new technology is actually an old technology but the new application of it that has done remarkable work for them in pulling oil out of the ground and gas out of the ground that they didn't think they could manage so that's the tech side the politics of this or even more interesting because again this is California because this is a top administrative play no one can avoid the fact that this is in direct response to governor Newsome's argument that fracking would be under scientific review in the state of California and here's the federal government sort of suggesting that its power overseas over overwhelms out of this date so in the end we're gonna see a lot of lawsuits lawsuits based on states rights yeah you know the irony of course is not missed on anyone that this is a states rights argument at one level but it's also a question about the rulings in twenty fourteen that set aside L. B. L. lambs decision original decision to approve fracking up along the central coast and elsewhere the BLM now says it has complied with a court order but that calm whether it fully complied is probably going to be the technical part of the lawsuit but the other will be but Serra as he has been doing repeatedly sense twenty seventeen is going to suit to challenge this and basically to bog down any federal action in the state of California okay so does that mean nothing's going to happen until these lawsuits go forward well I think that's what it means because that's what it is meant in other instances in different ways so you know whether it's ninety circuit will hear this I don't know but I assume that's were the suits will go to and you know that's been tends to be sympathetic to the arguments that California has been making about the environment over the years and actually other states under its jurisdiction so my guess is this is going to end in court my guess is that by keeping it in court this becomes a way by which to slow the process down certainly until twenty twenty elections and if the White House is flipped then I think California among other places will breathe a sigh of relief but in general this is federal land feds have the ability to do whatever they want with it even if it is an **** state yeah that's that's sort of sticking point because the bureau of land management since and leave early nineteenth century has had control of all mineral rights under federal property everywhere and this is federal property your but the state of California and last month attack governor Newsome said the moratorium on fracking will review all permits in the state and that includes federal lands so it's not clear to me that legal jurisdiction or the legal legitimacy if that claim but I think that will also be adjudicated in the courts general though pre governor knew some governor brown was pretty open to allowing fracking in California right he was and that that drove drove many of us crazy because the the sort of green perspective that he loaded and and frankly did a lot of good a lot of good issues seem to be in conflict and his argument was that oil and gas have been crucial to California's economy we want to continue that process even though and the other hand we're talking about trying to become more carbon free and I think that in the end is going to be one of the central issues in the public debate which is the same moment in which cop twenty five is meeting in Barcelona and the United States is fundamentally absent from that global conversation about how to move towards a carbon free economy the trump administration is demonstrating once again is that it is most interested in being retrogressive and that it perceives that oil and gas of the way to go and the world be damned but then you have localities localities which are hurting financially like sure Kern county in the board of supervisors there unanimous unanimously approved a measure to bring the oil industry and to present their plans so you've got the on a local level you've got some lawmakers really wanting this to happen yeah you do and I fully appreciate their their desires to make that work it we've seen this in the past and walking areas for example in the nineteen eighties and nineteen nineties when clear cutting was cut back literally and logging town suffered enormously as a consequence of part of what I think any good state policy and frankly fed policy needs to do is to think very seriously about the economic impact on localities on the one hand that against the broader interests in this case carbon free economy in a climate change the world and and do some serious thinking about this you know in the early nineteen twenties to Justin name a person Gifford Pinchot who had been the first head of the four service wrote quite poignantly about the logging towns in Pennsylvania that had turned out empty because all of the winter but the four deforested and he was very concerned about those kind of economic ramifications and and we need to take that seriously I guess that's the larger point is we've got to take it seriously and there has to be a way by which to negotiate this process wholesale opening up public lands to fracking is not that policy it is a kind of political pay back that I think will not work to the president's advantage thanks for coming on today my great pleasure thank metal term Miller professor of environmental analysis at Pomona

A Review of the Caretaker Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir 2017
"The caretaker Santa Maria Valley Pinot noir one seventeen which which is a nine hundred ninety nine trader Joe's exclusive and it's made by the central coast wine warehouse which has has been making wines for trader. Joe's contract wines you know the trader. Joe's they'll go to trader JOE's or trader Joe's to them and they wanNA wine this type of wine in this price point and they'll make it for them and central coast wine warehouse also has brands actually retail brands they make that and they also own some of the best vineyards in the central coast really top notch vineyard so it's a very good place to get wine and and caretakers been making wine for trader. Joe's contract exclusive label wines a long time because I think we did a caretaker shakur from two thousand nine and I know they do other brands used to see them all the time. Now you see him occasionally. other people have moved in and make winds fur trader trader. Joe's now but you know. This is an old time. That's been around this. This wine has a length of lot of retail wines sometimes a trader. Joe's those winds it's one or two years to vintages and he never see him again but this one's got a track record and they also do Cabernet Sauvignon and that type of thing okay Santa Maria Valley what is that that is a northernmost Aba in Santa Barbara California which is about a hundred hundred miles north of Los Angeles normally speaking Los Angeles area. Even the coastal Los Angeles area is too warm warm to be growing Pinot Noir Chardonnay. You'd probably get away with some grapes. Some maybe inland varieties you know but but because a just a just a freak of nature like a triangle area goes out into the ocean on the on the coastline so they have water on the north and they have water on the south and the vineyards have the cooling water from the Pacific Acidic Ocean which is a very cold water ocean and the Santa Maria Valley is the northernmost one at actually opens up to the ocean so the winds come falling through the valley so it's always got cold weather coming through and it's got the cool nights and it's got the morning fog and even though it can get warm during the day it's the cool nights and the the the warm weather during a day to get the grapes engines going into Kohl's off at night in a slows slows everything down and then the day grizzly warms up and burns the fog off so doesn't get too hot for too long. It's good growing area. It's also if you ever saw the movie sideways Santa Barbara's where the movie sideways was located on those two guys and their wine trip and and I don't know if you remember that but if you ever see it on Netflix or wherever you should kinda give it to watch. I think it's kind of dated at this point. Even though it's not that old movie in it but it kind of made read the start of a Pinot noir crazed back when it started and it it gave a boost of kind of killed Merlot for a long meantime because the the main character love and Warren hated Merlot and for some reason that was enough to cause a shift in the wine public. It's very weird in the movie is can about line but I think it's more about alcoholism. ps me but it's been a while since. I watched it but that's beside the point. This is Pinot Noir which is kind of movie. It was a little bit about and it's ten bucks buy under. It's not very bad at all. It's got a nice velvety side. Didn't kinda rough herbal side. It's not the most tasty of Pinot noir the world but it's ten bucks and it's it's a for ten dollars. Pinot Noir. It's it's kind of an accomplished wine. it's not my favorite in the world but it's a you know taste is subjective and it's it's a solid. Pinot Noir. You know I think it could use another. Maybe maybe a little more six months in the bottle before for you drink. It is a two thousand seventeen but there's a little rough spots here and there she'll it out a little bit and might even get better but it was perfectly drinkable kind of like like to an for a wine. That's nine dollars from good. Aba were you know Pinot Noir and it's and drink it now new arm at that that prices are pretty good. you got remember trader. Joe's because they're making a contract wine because they're sort of cutting out the middleman. They don't do completely but they do it. to a good extent they can get they can sell their wines for a couple of bucks sometimes more than a retail. L. Brand can go so it's you know so don't think of as a nine ninety eight. Pinot Noir because you're actually buying one that has the details of a more expensive one. It's pretty good. It's got good flavor some rough edges which I like my Pinot Noir. It's not ones Miami ones that are big fruit and you don't know the Pinot Noir Dr. I got nothing against me but it takes more than a Pinot noir and this one tastes like Pinot noir nine ninety nine trader. Joe's that's about it for me me until the next time this is Dave. Keep it cheap and we'll be talking to you before rock. Thanks very much

Rookie farmers in California are turning to nonprofit groups to boost their business savvy
"There are going to the United States Department of agriculture more than two million farms in this country of those the USDA says about a quarter are being run by beginning. Farmers people who are relatively new to farming. And so might not have the skills that are required beyond the actual farming part. Thank the part that involves running a small business. So some California nonprofits are stepping in with business mentoring services for rookie farmers out here. Julia Mitri reports as part of the California dream project them again is looking over her nine acre farm, she keeps her eye on a small farm crew moving along a row of strawberry. Plants Maganya grew up in a family of farm labourers. She was sharecropper in leader worked in plant nurseries now at fifty eight she's an independent farm owner on California's central coast, but she's still considered a beginner because she's run her farm for under ten years on this cloudy afternoon. She's got a visitor. Bet that. That's David months Etta. He's part of a California nonprofit, the kitchen table visors that works with small organic farmers and ranchers who are trying to scale up in Medina talk about what mix of crops to plant and how to get Bank loans. He asked her how the harvest is going on with clinical chech-, either left. But if. This. Mcgowan who says it's the last strawberry harvest because the rain's coming. This is still a better yield than twenty seventeen when she had some difficulties casino to make or Prelic seal for one thing. Macgyver says her husband and farming partner had open heart surgery. She couldn't harvest, but it helps the Chee an adviser mindset had been working on a cash flow spreadsheet, it let the Bank see that Maganya was tracking money in and money out. And she had a plan. We don't tell them. What to do? We guide them. We help them ask questions. Ultimately there the business owners. And so we're trying to help them develop this business mindset. There's really no blueprint for becoming a small-scale farmer in California. Kristen Leauge drives tractor along a small plot of land she farms in the town of winters west of Sacramento, that's about one hundred fifty miles north of Medina's farm Leach Korean adoptee got interested in traditional Korean farming. As a way to connect with her heritage. When I started my farm, it wasn't because I felt like a competent business person or head any even basic financial literacy as an individual. She started out working for other farmers, and she had a restaurant job growing veggies was just a side hustle now lead. Choose thirty six actually makes a living growing. Heirloom Korean chilies, herbs and melons for an upscale San Francisco restaurant. So it's sort of been like accidental business owner, that's the case. For a lot of beginners says Evan wig of the community alliance with family farmers. The nonprofit advocacy group runs training and networking for rookie. Farmers. We see farmers over and over again coming with a passion and interest in knowledge in crop production in working with soil health management. And really, that's usually what draws new people to agriculture not the prospect of sitting behind a computer filling out spreadsheets for crop planning, which is also part of the job in California land close to markets like San Francisco is expensive and hard to come by and when small farms fail wig says it's almost always comes down to some element of business. Planning farmer. Kristen Leach also gets guidance from kitchen table advisor, she says the connection has helped her scale upper business and expand seed production for a lot of farmers like that's just such a huge boost to just not feel alone in it or have people that are kind of advocating for you and can provide resources of one kind or another Leach says she's still learning from her advisor. She no longer runs her. Arm paycheck to paycheck. But she also says she's still stubborn enough to farm her own way

"It's not clear to me yet. How quickly this has been thrown in his lap. Or this is something that's prayed for very very long time. He seemed though when we talk to him undaunted, I know one Guido is thirty five, but that's about it, Andrew. So who is one Guido, and where's he from one is from Venezuela's central coast? He is a former student leader. And it's very important to point out that he is very close to Leopold Lopez Venezuela's most well known political prisoner when former mayor of Caracas, correct, correct? When white oh was still in university. He helped lead major demonstrations through Caracas since then he and Lopez formed a political party together. And he's always been considered a confidante of Lopez in two thousand fifteen he was elected to congress. But you know, honestly, speaking just a few few weeks, most Venezuelans didn't really know who he was he has leadership is in its party, but widely speaking. He's risen up very very quick. So as Guido essentially opposed the socialist revolution. From the beginning. Starting with Java is and onto Maduro to my knowledge. Yes. I mean, unlike many people in Venezuela's opposition, which is long been criticized for sort of blue blooded roots. White oak comes from very humble origins. Again, he grew up on a town, which is not far from Venezuela's main international airport is father or the commercial pilot. His mother a homemaker. He's one of seven children his family barely avoided tragedy almost two decades ago during major mudslides, and he's seeing some very fixing very up close thousands of people lost their lives, but as seen on the political scene. He's always come out hard against thrilling socialist government. So how at the age of thirty five did it become the head of the national assembly in. How's it possible to be the head of that body and not be known by a lot of people in Venezuela? As one analyst put it to me. Why? Became the head of the national assembly through a series of unfortunate events, the the ruling social government has imprisoned or forced into exile, many people from wireless party. So when it came his party's turn to take the helm of the body this year, he was again, bring up the Santa lists one of the only major choices left in the party and still in Venezuela that had some recognition what can you tell us about Guido's political beliefs is he a free market kinda Neo liberal or more of a social Justice democrat or something else you from the few conversations I've had with him. I think he's somewhere in between. He really pushed this ideas, we have to reach some equilibrium being able to provide for the poor and as well encourage investment investment because I can tell you from the ground here. Things are really really grim state. Andrew residing in Caracas for Bloomberg news. Thanks very much for this. Thank you at least four people died during yesterday's protests in Venezuela and more than three. Three hundred were detained that number is, according to Alfredo Romero. Now, the European Commission, spokesperson Alexander, Windsor Stein had this to say about that particular concern. Eighty four percent that is clear. Now you say that since the participation is not identical across the u we shouldn't take into account will their degree when four point six million Europeans take the time to participate in a public consultation. You can not afterwards frog your shoulder and say, well, we don't care about this. We do care about this when people speak. We take notes and we care about it. So that's the spokesman for the European Commission. Alexander winter Stein. Is there any clear sense of how this would work in practice? No, we don't have a clear idea about what the proposal will contain specifically, John Young Yonker the head of the commission suggested that the EU was heading for permanent summertime. Mr.. Winter Stein said that actually it's a sovereign decision of Member States to decide whether they stay in permanent summertime. I'll permanent wintertime, and that's led to a lot of questions from journalists. Some humorous saying, one generally said would lead to. Britain, staying in the EU for one hour longer or one hour less others. More serious could lead to there being a different time zone along the Irish border. Could it lead to further north south split in terms of some countries in the south opting to stay on wintertime, some in the north. And so it leads to an overall impression that this is not being clearly thought through. It's not been announcement that has run like clockwork. Danny abra heart. He's already a legend in athletics, multiple Olympic champion and will record holder. But now having retired from sprinting, you sane bolt is trying to make it in the world of professional football. And today he took to the pitch for the Australian side, central coast Mariners in a pre-season friendly, which they won by six goes to one. Phil, Mercer was there and told me it was quite a match. Yes, it was in the opposition playing against the central coast Mariners tonight only scored the goal after you same bolt had come on. So there was an almighty. T- role for the Jamaican former sprinter when he made his appearance midway through the second half, it almost brought the roof off here the central coast stadium in Gosford. This is a city about an hour's drive to the north of Sydney normally of preseason friendly match. Like this would attract a few hundred supporters tonight though. Almost ten thousand fans in the stadium, and they were here just to see one man, you same volts and how was his play? Because I'm told he almost got a goal in. He did. He had some nice touches. He Hudson nervous touches in here, had some forgetful ones as well. I don't think he did anywhere near enough to justify earning a contract. He on the basis of twenty five minutes on a football pitch. Did he do his case any home? Probably not. So I don't think he really showed the coaches anything they didn't really know already. He did look a bit nervous at times. His positional sense wasn't that you'd expect from other players around him, but I don't think you can doubt his endeavor. He chased he ran. He ran very fast as you to magin and one thing you can also not doubt his his star power. As we say, almost ten thousand supporters cramming into the stadium to see the latest chapter in you sane bolts global football adventure. And it's probably fair to say this is raising Australia's central coast Mariners to well a level of global awareness that they hadn't. Previously attained. No, this is a small club on the central coast of New South Wales. It's suburban area popular with people who commute for work into Sydney. They did win the a league, the Australian professional competition once upon a time, but average gates in the last few seasons of hovered around seven thousand. So getting ten thousand for a pre season friendly just goes to show what a draw card you same bolts will be. We've been speaking to supporters here. Many believed that if he was to be granted a contract to stay with boost this club's popularity on profile like it like nothing else..
