"Not just yet. So yeah, and they haven't had extended troughs and slumps, the a's historically during the Billy bean era. So when they have rebuilt, they haven't done a long-term tear down, which is. They haven't had a long time. Exactly. They can't feed a lot of animals at once. Well, talking about teams with long traps, so just to touch on the Orioles here for a second because they did decide to sell to be a team that was subtracting from their roster, everyone bought or sold or bought and sold except for the rockies who held. But the Orioles could have gone either way and ultimately they decided to trade treatments in also Jorge Lopez who went to the twins, though they did get Brett Phillips from Tampa Bay for a vibes boost, but they will need that because, you know, there were some quotes coming out of that Clubhouse to people being upset about losing Mancini use sort of the heart and soul of that team and also just not trying to upgrade or reinforce that roster that is exceeding expectations and is finally contending again after so long being bad and you know it's not a shock that they went this way just given who runs that team and the way that they tend to look at roster construction and my Goliath had one of those kind of clinical quotes where it was like we didn't think we were going to win a wild card even though they're two and a half games out of it and look, I think he's probably right about that. I think they probably were not going to. It's just it's tough and maybe it will all be forgotten if the Orioles next year are better and call up other top prospects and these prospects pan out for them and they do have the top rated pharma system according to Eric and so there's a lot of help on the way and it's just a more respectable team than it's been and I get it like you know get what you can reinforce the team like you've been through this tank like might as well just stick to your guns here and stick to the plan and you're not quite ready, you think and so fortify your foundation as much as you can and then really make a run for it and hopefully spend at some point. But it's tough I think it's tough to tell that team and to tell that fan base like we're close, even though it's because of this expanded playoff format, even if our odds of actually winning one of those wild cards wasn't that great. To be that close that you can almost taste it at this point and then say, nope, not yet. Even if it's understandable, it's just a tough pill as well, I'm sure, and especially with someone like Mancini who spent a lot to that team, obviously. I think a couple of things about this. I mean, I get the Mancini move more from just if we want to set the feeling part of it aside. And I'm not I don't say that like that part is unimportant, but just to like set it, you know, just to the side for a second. I understood the Mancini decision more just from a pure roster construction perspective because it doesn't seem like they wanted to bring him back. And even though the return was sort of whatever. I think they did better than I expected them to from a return perspective, but I kind of get that a little bit more. And I know that Lopez has been less good lately and that there's a lot of volatility with relievers and I think that front offices tend to view them even ones who are pretty good and I don't think that Lopez was necessarily elite elite, but he was a good reliever as fairly fungible, right? They have confidence that they are going to be able to replace that production either elsewhere on the roster or cheaply in free agency or from their farm system. And that it's not super consistent year to year for the most part. And so whatever. But then there are two years of Lopez and maybe they like boutiques to more, I think that we know that now based on this deal, but surely they like Lopez better than some of the guys who are getting moved up the bullpen depth chart because of his absence, right? Yeah. So there's that piece of it, and then when we bring the feelings back in, it's like Mancini means so much to us. I mean, this is a dude who is I'm watching on sports on her last night like thanking the training staff for saving his life. Right. Right because demographically he's not the guy who's he's not super likely to have had the kind of cancer he did and they found it. And it saved his life, right? So you have that piece of it. And I know that when we are thinking about what did they retain that in terms of players who are going to be good during the when they really mean it, right? Like they didn't move separately. Right, exactly. But also, Cedric Mullins has feelings. Right? Like this is the piece of it that I always think is just a little bit off. I know that we can't quantify like chemistry and I know that guys come and go and even on teams that are good like guys come and go. But like Cedric Mullins has a view on the direction of the Orioles and presumably that's a guy you want to keep kind of happy so like is it worth disrupting the sense that the team has that like we're all in this and we're trying to win and we are you know on some level they are probably clear eyed about their ability to really challenge the other AL teams that are likely to make it to the postseason, but like they're in it, you know and they care about this and they are respectable for the first time and in a while. He was overused this year by any metric through 66 innings way quicker than he should have came down with a shoulder issue, has not picked up a baseball yet. It's September 15th. I don't know if we're going to see him for the rest of the year, which is devastating because this bullpen is a disaster without him. So in an effort to fill his spot, Luis severino is apparently ahead of him in the pecking order now in the rehab process. Domingo Hermann was great on Tuesday at triple-A. He could be back by the end of the week reportedly and not a moment too soon because Garrett Cole, the first game of this oriole series was supposed to be the blowout. They got everybody off their feet. And it was a 7 two win. And it wasn't that close. There were moments when the tide could have turned and took a couple great pitch performances to stop them from turning. The aforementioned moment when glaber botched the double play and then bought stuff up to her shell and it was terrible. Glay returned a better double play up the middle on a three two rocket, the very next batter. One ball away from Michael kingdom from bases loaded no outs in a 5 one game. That's different. That's very different than what we saw. We saw a much different ending collab. We did. Um, So the Oscar Hernandez, who's awesome by the way of Toronto, his third of the season, even though he only has like 12 steals and they want sorta also his third of the season. Also not a ton of seals, but fantastic Tasker and into the top 10 announcement and now like the number of support that he is, I think he's in the player hater. He's a top 10. Alfred. Let me make sure that Yeah, I think he could. And that was the guy where the plate approach reminds me a little of JD Martinez and he made a star of himself. I don't know that they Oscar will ever hit for quite the same average year over year is JD did But how about this? Like, so He's the number seven. He's right there with Juan Soto. My goodness for a healthy guy now when we do our bust of the season, which at some point even though it's not negative thing, I mean, it's obviously gonna be laden with guys who are hurt Mike Trout probably bust of the season, frankly, first round pick. It played 30 games he and minus er the bust of the season. And I'm sure others in Trump's case because and you had mentioned this as much as anybody that the lessons of the previous injuries cautioned you on what to expect, and he fell short of it by a substantial margin. Right, And he's not a first round pick for next year. You can't average 110 games over like a five year period still be a first round pick every anybody else in baseball. You know, would have been Well out of our top 10. Trans. Awesome, But he doesn't play enough. His point here is yes, path to it is that he comes back in spring training 100% Day one, tears it up during the Cactus League. I see no other path in that. I mean, I don't see how I could take Trout over Freddie Freeman next year, and Freddie Freeman feels like the 10 12 pick Overall. Devers is right there. These guys are durable. Trout's not durable anyway. What was the point I was trying to make. I don't even remember now. Um, I damn what was the point? It was somebody you were talking about. Um, and now, black man. Yeah, Blackman is not even a top 100 player anymore. Um, so forget about him. I just like what a disappointment for for for a guy we have to do to bus lists. And overall that has the obvious guys, okay? And it like Bieber would be on their trail. Bieber and trout about the same and then one for guys who just played all season. Um, so the Oscar Hernandez, who's awesome by the way of Toronto, his third of the season, even though he only has like 12 steals and one sorta, also his third of the season, also not a ton of seals. My goodness for a healthy guy now when we do our bust of the season, which at some point even though it's not negative thing, I mean, it's obviously gonna be laden with guys who are hurt Mike Trout probably bust of the season, frankly, first round pick. It played 30 games he and Monastir the bus of the season, and I'm sure others in Trump's case because and you had mentioned this as much as anybody that the lessons of the previous injuries cautioned you on what to expect, and he fell short of it by a substantial margin. Right, And he's not a first round pick for next year. You can't average 110 games over like a five year period still be a first round pick every anybody else in baseball. You know, would have been Well out of our top 10 trials. Awesome, But he doesn't play enough. He's point here is yes, His path to it is that he comes back in spring training. 100% Day one. Tears it up during the Cactus League. I see no other path in that. I mean, I don't see how I could take Trout over Freddie Freeman next year, and Freddie Freeman feels like the 10th 12th pick Overall. Devers is right there. These guys are durable charts. I think that's the thing that's going to tell me that. They have some staying power. They took a big hit and they did it at the right time. They did it when the braves weren't doing anything The nationals are clearly not the team. we thought they'd be the phillies have been a mess in a lot of ways A good time for the mets to get hurt. I think if anything they're going to be stronger lindores not gonna be a below average hitter all year. He's not a two hundred twelve or whatever he's doing right now. But i still thought they were on the downslope on the way towards a rebuild as opposed to having that rebound year that they've got right now but you know who would have guessed buster posey after all of his injuries and all the miles on his odometer would have a comeback like this. He's vp candidate for crying out loud and he's been doing it Longoria he just got hurt. Obviously but longoria has been like his old self with the raise. It's like ten years ago for him. like stransky again. He's hurt to let everybody in baseball's hurt right now. I have no idea what's going on but it's tricky has been been solid. They've got way more offense than ever thought they would. And then another one brandon crawford another of the old timers guy from the world series team just playing like two thousand twelve again. This year about twenty three hundred. Rpm's basically what indians starter. Aaron savali records his four seamer getting hit a a two fifty four clip this year again about average then take the dodgers bid rate maven. Trevor bauer who's four seamer. Goes up there to clip of over twenty eight hundred rpm over a hundred thirty. Rpm's higher than the next closest pitcher in the league. His four seamer is hit at a one forty three mark this year. That's a big difference. Now garrett cole clayton kershaw and bauer among others saw significant decreases in spin rates in their first start since mlb's announcement on the crackdown bowers. I start in atlanta. On june fifth. For example saw his spin rate on his fastball. dip over two hundred rpm slower than his yearly average to date could be coincidence. They are really this good and and that's the thing about the raise. You mentioned them getting rid of lake now yet. He mentioned him They they got rid of charlie morton. It doesn't matter what the raise their the enemy of the next man up kind of team in baseball. You don't see that baseball very often year about that footfall basketball but the razor definitely that way. the depth of that team is absolutely incredible Tyler glasnost future cy. Young winner as the starter. So they're not gonna miss flakes. No richhill forty one years old. They're getting a new level out of him this year And then the real. The real power of this team is the bullpen. They are always five or six guys. Eat in five or six guys who are better than the top two on half the teams in baseball and this year for the first time in a long time. They're getting a lot of often to. They're getting a lot of power. They're they're They're getting on base at probably the best in the league if not the best. They're definitely up near the top solid team. The strongest team. Top to bottom in the american league this move to the al central. We all know the white sox. They survived that little storm with tony. Larussa mercedes and clubhouse not feeling that great about larussa calling out the young player. But i want to talk about the minnesota twins and what has happened to them. Byron buxton is coming back for them but when he went out they went straight down to the bottom. They're in last place in the al central even below two detroit tigers who are rebuilding. What happened there craig. Just across the board failure You know the starting pitching did not come through. J happens in a disaster. Matt shoemaker has been an even bigger disaster. Those were a couple of guys that really needs to step up their ace. Jose burritos he. He's good but he's not where they need him to be right now. The bullpen has been terrible. They've also been extraordinarily unlucky their record extra inning games. I don't have it off the top of my head but it's like really really bad. I think they've won one expert game out of something like eight or nine lost a lot of one run games. If anything has gone wrong for this team it has and like you mentioned buxton. He is distraught. That stirs the drink there. And he's losing him for so long Makes this lineup so much. Easier to pitch you. That a huge huge problem for them They're going to be a seller at the deadline at this point. I don't think they're going to be able to dig out of this hole. You're going to see someone like nelson cruz on the market and Just retrench ear a lot of talents. They're going to be fine again next year. Probably i think.

"Tops. Really past you know to be able to get a grip on. The baseball was a real challenge. You know spots and so definitely no. I would look for something to help you. Were there was firm drip whether it was some some other kacha plays. They're trying to keep the dream alive and continue to go. So it's difficult to put a number. But i will certainly phase until comfortable crying. More common than uncommon was speaking with former major league left handed pitcher janikowski who broke game with the cincinnati reds in thousand nine hundred five play for the tigers. The astros the mets the rangers. I'm running out of breath here. Cj going take every desk doger's real no doubt and last in the big leagues in two thousand five with the washington nationals. Here's my thing in the major leagues with pitchers and put stuff on the ball or whatnot. We have a couple legendary pictures. Gaylord perry's in the hall of fame and that was his whole ammo. You know whether he was doing it or faking. Batters out phil niekro is another guy. If you remember. I think it was filled. Who had an emmy board. He flipped out of his pocket right on about a foot. Everybody i mean this has been attached to baseball for a while. Cam baseball. honestly clean this up. Can this be cleaned up. I think we all look about knows old days. Because it's a little bit of a difference right. Scuffing baseball compared to using Maybe a foreign substance. And i say different just in practice. You're still going to get a similar result. But you get a guy that would kind of scuff one once in a while. He would do it all the time. We worried about getting cop. The sticky pretty much. Have it on your hand. You have it on your hand And that that one is better than the other but there are a little bit different and perhaps we should have been a little bit more harsh about it because they're always been In place other. You could do it. But i have reversing this. It's going to be a challenge for baseball. They're now pulling out all the stops. I think part of it is going back to what were just talking about is because the pictures are so good and the offense struggling. We stork lows and batting average. And if this keeps up we will have the lowest batting average ever in history of our games and trevor. Bauer kind of thing light. A couple of years ago right when he sorta kinda called out the name and saying well you guys each something spin rate. You shouldn't have to do that unless you're cheating. Vitamins all right now. There was a spotlight on this. Then because of that. And now we're seeing the really bad offense and the domination of fixtures until he is a guy that's been kind of behind whether he wanted to be or not he probably twitchy attention on this a little bit more than maybe he intended. And i'll make you gotta do something about. It could become a real challenge. I think it'll be interesting to watch these next couple of weeks. Especially after what. We saw a girl call. Nobody else wants to spend out there in front of reporters and to answer that question. Now it could be are using something now or something in the paphos. Two different questions like gaza top. Be extra careful because all is around them the more and more cameras and people trying to figure out exactly what the heck is going on here. so they will call the crackdown else trying to do what they can. And try to be snoopy But it does happen. A game has been happening baseball cup. Hands hold china trying to stop percents. Cj lasting and i mentioned jacob degrom earlier his array is. What is it zero sixty or something like that. Yeah like like a crazy number. Should we look at him and go man. He is just a lights out or now. We always knew he was a great pitcher right even before to come out but but to have a zero sixty two era which we haven't seen. I think i'm going to have to question. Am i wrong. Well i think it's fair and that's that's a reality. That's the nature of what we do now in the media's when something's sticks out so drafted and then you get about what the other guys are doing. You can't help but wonder a little bit. And as much as it may seem unfair to the player. It's probably a fair question now is it. Goes back to the soda to me. It's one of the biggest tragedies foretaste jury is that it was so fun. I kid you sit there and watch the guy with fifty home runs going in and wondering because he'd be the one could he do it because he'd be like marriages records and it never happened and the six. I believe it's six times now that it happened since everything that is tied to be east. I wouldn't talk about merrick anymore. Sixty one and that is a tragedy you know. And i feel like we've been robbed to something because he's guys just went nuts with a sixty and then seventy three home runs and so now what you're seeing guys unbelievable things which are racing as and now you start hearing about other things that were going on. You can't help but be a little bit suspicion. I have no specific personally about this but at the same time i get why people may ask that question and anybody else in the mix you saw the book on cole space. What if he the new york yankees and you gave him as us three hundred million dollar contracts. You saw how much better he got. Going from pittsburgh's to houston and you start to wonder about was using some substances. That helped him be that good. And if you're going to stop now. And what does that mean for the rest of the time under this contract with the yankees. I don't doubt at least a little bit concerned. Don't really concerned Hopefully it's not gonna be as drastic as the drop off and he's not back to the guy who wasn't pittsburgh and i don't think that'll be the case but when you have guys it dominated over these last few years have been better than they were a couple of years ago at this level and now we're hearing about the sixty south and then what it can have on their pitchers. Rob's hot take on the three biggest stories in major league baseball number one here we go again yes. Baseball has an issue with players cheating doing things they're not supposed to. And yesterday we saw garrett cole fradin center looking like he saw a ghost when he was asked a question of whether or not he put foreign substance on the ball and he said he didn't know how to answer the question. I see yes or no or no comment or are you know saying. He didn't know how answer it was very very bad for the guy like he didn't know what was coming. And you know. Baseball has another issue as to deal with and something has to be done because we're seeing these Hitters all across the board or record number. We're seeing er raise all-time low were potentially going to have the lowest batting average. In the history of baseball something is off kilter and not right and maybe it was hitters before had an advantage and now pitchers have a big advantage. And it's just not good for the game. We need to get it right to put people on a fair level playing field so that hitters can be hitters pitchers can be pitchers and neither side dominates too much but definitely baseball needs to jump in and get something straightened out number.
