"It. Make sure to stick around after the break, which we're about to take. The order with which I said that, am I choking like labor Torres? Maybe we're gonna take a quick break when we come back when it's hot players being broken. Welcome back to the unique sky yard podcast. I do want to talk bullpen usage a little bit too. Because, you know, it all goes hand in hand, the Iggy have obviously broken Jonathan Lewis again a different way. He's not someone who's had a durable shoulder throughout his major league career. For me, it's the one thing that's gonna hold him back in his quest to be the next Mariano Rivera in the next closer of the New York Yankees. He was overused this year by any metric through 66 innings way quicker than he should have came down with a shoulder issue, has not picked up a baseball yet. It's September 15th. I don't know if we're going to see him for the rest of the year, which is devastating because this bullpen is a disaster without him. So in an effort to fill his spot, Luis severino is apparently ahead of him in the pecking order now in the rehab process. Domingo Hermann was great on Tuesday at triple-A. He could be back by the end of the week reportedly and not a moment too soon because Garrett Cole, the first game of this oriole series was supposed to be the blowout. They got everybody off their feet. And it was a 7 two win. And it wasn't that close. There were moments when the tide could have turned and took a couple great pitch performances to stop them from turning. The aforementioned moment when glaber botched the double play and then bought stuff up to her shell and it was terrible. Glay returned a better double play up the middle on a three two rocket, the very next batter. One ball away from Michael kingdom from bases loaded no outs in a 5 one game. That's different. That's very different than what we saw. We saw a much different ending collab. We did. But 5 one became 6 one became 7 one became 7 one with one out, nobody on and two strikes in the 9th salamander gave up a single walk and a riby single line off his hand. So a role as Chapman had to come into this game to relieve salamano to face Cedric Mullins and Ryan mount castle with first and second one out in a 7 two game in the 9th..

"I'm a little disappointed. Interesting because on the last show, which was a week ago when I filmed you, even though I'm on a computer screen I filmed you dancing around. You didn't do the pointing thing. You didn't dance around that much. You knew you were being video recorded. And thus you did not act the way you normally do. Dancing around singing your song, So I'm going to need to do that again. And I can't hide it because I'm on the screen with you so Stage, right, man. That's all it is. Maybe it is, uh, we've got to only three meals in the past week. Um, So the Oscar Hernandez, who's awesome by the way of Toronto, his third of the season, even though he only has like 12 steals and they want sorta also his third of the season. Also not a ton of seals, but fantastic Tasker and into the top 10 announcement and now like the number of support that he is, I think he's in the player hater. He's a top 10. Alfred. Let me make sure that Yeah, I think he could. And that was the guy where the plate approach reminds me a little of JD Martinez and he made a star of himself. I don't know that they Oscar will ever hit for quite the same average year over year is JD did But how about this? Like, so He's the number seven. He's right there with Juan Soto. Now, this is a little bit unfair. The player Raider just gives so much Martin were Merrifield stolen basis are so amazing that that they move ahead of like Harper and Soto and Castle Jano, so I don't really view it that way. Because I think the player I think the points leagues would be a better thing to view it as a process player writer But anyway, taskers awesome One soda is awesome. What do you want the weekend ones? There were a couple more over the weekend. Yeah. What else? What else? Over the weekend September 12th one Soda had another combo meal. Uh, Charlie Blackmon and then on the fifth five players did it. Matt Duffy, Brian Reynolds, Cedric Mullins, Javier Bias and Kevin Pillar. Yeah. I knew melons have done it and melons since then, helmet a couple times. Unbelievable. Charlie Blackmon is kind of interesting. Um, you know, he used to be a big bass dealer. And now I think it doesn't even have like Five. No. He's three steals and 15 home runs. What a awful season. For course, Field outfielder played every day 131 games and he's got to 69 13 and three steals. My goodness for a healthy guy now when we do our bust of the season, which at some point even though it's not negative thing, I mean, it's obviously gonna be laden with guys who are hurt Mike Trout probably bust of the season, frankly, first round pick. It played 30 games he and minus er the bust of the season. And I'm sure others in Trump's case because and you had mentioned this as much as anybody that the lessons of the previous injuries cautioned you on what to expect, and he fell short of it by a substantial margin. Right, And he's not a first round pick for next year. You can't average 110 games over like a five year period still be a first round pick every anybody else in baseball. You know, would have been Well out of our top 10. Trans. Awesome, But he doesn't play enough. His point here is yes, path to it is that he comes back in spring training 100% Day one, tears it up during the Cactus League. I see no other path in that. I mean, I don't see how I could take Trout over Freddie Freeman next year, and Freddie Freeman feels like the 10 12 pick Overall. Devers is right there. These guys are durable. Trout's not durable anyway. What was the point I was trying to make. I don't even remember now. Um, I damn what was the point? It was somebody you were talking about. Um, and now, black man. Yeah, Blackman is not even a top 100 player anymore. Um, so forget about him. I just like what a disappointment for for for a guy we have to do to bus lists. And overall that has the obvious guys, okay? And it like Bieber would be on their trail. Bieber and trout about the same and then one for guys who just played all season. Like how how Is your bathroom, looking old.

"And was proving that he could stay healthy for a large stretch of games. It was the most he's played in four years. And people were advocating when the Yankees were hovering around 500. So maybe just tear it all down at the trade deadline. Trade Aaron judge at max value, see what prospects you can get. You're not running this back in 2022. You're not, because if Aaron judges you're only good player, nobody else is producing, then you're just you're repeating something that's not working. So people advocated for trading Aaron judge. We export some trade packages, you specifically. Some interesting ones too that I think definitely definitely made the conversation a little bit more intelligible because it wasn't out of the question. If the Yankees didn't make the moves that they made, or if they had or if some teams outbid them, or if they had trouble parting with some prospects that they didn't want to, then we're not in this situation. But guys, trading Aaron judges never the right decision. I think why else for another for a million other reasons why Adam? Why is this the wrong decision? He's the team MVP. He's like the best homegrown Yankee in like 20 years. He changes everything about the construction of the team. He's playing center field this year. I think that's worth noting that when they go to NL ballparks, they go, Aaron, you're like the best defensive right Fielder in baseball. You want to go play center fields or Joey Gallo could play left and jump Carlos Stanton could play right. And he goes, yeah, sure, fine. Our judge is not the problem. If Aaron judge worthy, I mean, I'm like rolling my eyes out of the back of my head. You know why? Because we're the New York Yankees. And we can absorb bad contracts. And whether people grouse about a salary cap or a salary floor or whatnot, we will always be able to afford Giancarlo Stan Garrett Cole and an Aaron judge deal, which, by the way, will not be that expensive. The next Aaron judge deal is gonna clock. He's like 30 years old. People are using that as an argument for why you shouldn't pay him. It's an argument for why you should pay him 6 years and one 80 or 6 years and two 20s, 7 years and two 30, like Erin judge deal is not gonna be ten years, $380 million. The New York Yankees will always be the New York Yankees and they can always afford it and if they're telling you they can't, they're lying to you. So if Aaron judge really were The Crown jewel on an awful baseball team, the Cedric Mullins on the 20 consecutive loss Orioles, sure, trade him, fine. But when the Red Sox acted like this and traded Mookie betts, we all laughed..

Call the last out. Cedric mullins. Last chance for baltimore tonight and after a series against the indians where the angels scored a total of two runs in three games they put up fourteen runs on nineteen heads tonight to send the baltimore orioles to their nineteenth consecutive laws and during those nineteen th straight losses the run differential for baltimore a hundred aids an average of five point seven runs per game. I have to confirm with my friend. Sarah lang's that it's the worst. Nineteen game stretch run differential in the history of baseball. They had the worst eighteen game stretch as we learned from sarah yesterday. Let's get to the good stuff. Dodgers and padres base each other last night. Aj pollock gains rupe. "Doesn't. And so this is the part of the podcast where I just do want to show some love to some people who have been extremely impressive. The Yankees are going on this winning streak, by the way. And the Orioles are not, you know, top level upper Echelon competition. I understand that. But it's not easy to pitch to a major league team. The Orioles hit, the Orioles hit the rays all weekend long. They lost those games because the bullpen and the rotation are both terrible. And the rays came back in the later innings repeatedly, but the Orioles Homer, like everybody else. The Orioles have major league hitters, the orals have Cedric Mullins who's having one of the best offensive seasons in baseball. The Yankees pitching staff without Garrett Cole, Jordan Montgomery and Domingo Hermann, were able to shut them down this week. They had to go with Luis heel who deserves all the credit in the world and has yet to allow an earned run in two starts in his major league career. The Iggy had to do with Nestor Cortez junior, the Yankees had to do it with a full bullpen game against the Seattle Mariners who are in the wild card race right behind them. A game started by wandy Peralta. They had to do with androgyny, who we've shown a lot of hate two through two starts, but who gave up four runs through two innings and then ended up going 6 innings on Saturday and game where the team desperately needed him to. I believe 9 strikeouts, overall a fine start. The Orioles say what you will about him, they can hit, you can't say the same like you can't get angry and discount the Mariners games. The Mariners have battled all year long, even when their front office tried to dissect them and turn them apart and trade their closer to a division rival. That's a wild card contender. That's a team right behind you in the standings and a split would have left these two teams basically even up. The beat them without their offensive full capacity. The Mariners have a good bullpen, a good solid young offense, a good rotation that you took three out of four with very inferior pitching options on the table. So I don't want to hear it about the Orioles really, but I definitely don't want to hear it about the Mariners. And you got to give Louis heel, again, two shutouts to start his major league career coming off a bad start at the triple-A level. He looks uniquely poised. He spins that fastball. We were talking about the other day in much the same way that Garrett Cole does. It's very interesting. Stephen writings and clay Holmes in the 6th and 7th innings of these games, I already trust both of these people. Obviously, in close games, relievers are going to have trouble on occasion. They have done nothing to prove to me that they don't deserve to be trusted. Heel ridings and homes have all shown me more than something. They are arms I already trust to lengthen the rotation and deep in the pen..

"Zunino in Catching you have boba shed at shortstop as well you have matt olsen for oakland you have jose ramirez for cleveland jared walsh for the angels at base and then you have joey gallo all these garcia cedric mullins. Jd martinez and nelson cruz to round out the rest of the lineup. You only have three outfielders though on the reserves you have joey gallo all each garcia and cedric mullins. And then you have two extra gauges in jd martinez and nelson cruz. The starting pitchers for the american league team. You have shane bieber who is out due to injury or he is opting out his replacement. Is chris beset from oakland. And then you have garrett cole as well nathan evolve the kyle gibson. Ucla kukuchi. You also have Lance lynn and carlos rundown to round out. You're starting pitchers then in your relievers. You have mad. Barnes for boston raleigh's chapman for new york liam hendriks for the white sox ryan presley for houston. He is actually opting out. And then gregory soto from detroit so those are some very very interesting at teams that just to say the least. This is a You have five year. Five brewers now and five padres on the on the The all star teams and ironically one of the all stars that you don't have on the on the team is It's it's probably the best overall player on your team when christian yelich. You have corbin burns and josh josh. Hater and omar navarro navarro's who are the who are pitchers. And then you also have free. Peralta and brandon would actually a i think every one of the The the players that the brewers have our pitchers which is actually really really impressive for the padres. You obviously have jake cronin worth you had. Hugh darvish manny machado. Who was added later mark melanchon. Who's league leader in saves fernando. Totti's junior he's a beast a shortstop i mean in the astros. They're all skipping it. So who cares four. All stars is actually houston's lowest total in all sorts since twenty sixteen and But they're still tied for third among all wins this year. Like with their clubs. They're doing a pretty good job actually in terms of in terms of all that but so i. I'm looking at these i. I'm looking at these. These these teams right here. And i'm trying to really figure out what one thing. The american league does that is for sure better. That is for sure better than the national league. And i don't really have a huge I i don't have a huge Huge amount of faith in in some of these guys for the For for the american league. I think the american league roster is kind of lacking and because of that i think i am going to end up choosing the i'm definitely ending up choosing the national league. I think the national league is going to win by a. I'm calling it. I think shohei otani is is going to do good. I think it's going to be a close game. But i think the nationally is going to win for sheer by a score of four to three. I think shohei otani is going to go over in the All-star game. But i think he's going to pitch very very well I i think that. I think that the the biggest reason. I think that the nationally is going to win is because of their pitching staff like. Trevor rogers is in my opinion. The least it. I think he's probably the least experienced guy. And then you look at their relievers. They have the best relievers in all of baseball. Like or like the they have the best relievers in the sport at in terms of like saves and things like that so. I don't think that those guys are going to be really giving up many opportunities. I also think that the other guys are going to be really good. I think that the american league's ticket to success is probably against Trevor rogers trevor. Rogers is he. He was a rookie last year. Actually in the seven games that he pitched in last year so i don't know if he's still considered a rookie he may be. He may not be but This year he's actually doing really really well even still he has a two thirty one. Era so like he's still really is still really good at at throwing the baseball. He's an all star. So i really have no idea what's going to happen. My final prediction is the national league. Wins this one by score of four to three And shohei ohtani ios over however many at bats he gets so thank you guys so much for listening you you can follow us at. Gnc underscore baseball on twitter. "Well. Maybe anthony masterson name. Bs analytics is gay. What do you got for me. Anthony offense and baseball. This season like resistance is futile. The league wide average is the lowest since nineteen sixty eight. you'll be the lowest nineteen seventy-two and of course strikeout totals or an all time high continuing a decades long trend. But what hit the news. This past week was the outing of a dirty little secret. The men on the mound possess the use of foreign substances on the baseball nord increase spin and movement and take a picture. The league average spin rate on his four seam fastball. This year about twenty three hundred. Rpm's basically what indians starter. Aaron savali records his four seamer getting hit a a two fifty four clip this year again about average then take the dodgers bid rate maven. Trevor bauer who's four seamer. Goes up there to clip of over twenty eight hundred rpm over a hundred thirty. Rpm's higher than the next closest pitcher in the league. His four seamer is hit at a one forty three mark this year. That's a big difference. Now garrett cole clayton kershaw and bauer among others saw significant decreases in spin rates in their first start since mlb's announcement on the crackdown bowers. I start in atlanta. On june fifth. For example saw his spin rate on his fastball. dip over two hundred rpm slower than his yearly average to date could be coincidence. But doing his own thing these days he has a daily newsletter called cup of coffee. And we're gonna talk baseball with craig. Hey craig thanks. Welcome to the podcast. Thanks for having me and no doubt of so many different things to talk about couple teams to pepper you about and find. Let's start in the al leased and the tampa bay rays. Who just i mean. They traded blake's now. Everybody thought they do the towel. And they went to the world series a year ago and here we are in june and there in first place game and a half ahead of the red sox going into wednesday kanesa this or they really this good. They are really this good and and that's the thing about the raise. You mentioned them getting rid of lake now yet. He mentioned him They they got rid of charlie morton. It doesn't matter what the raise their the enemy of the next man up kind of team in baseball. You don't see that baseball very often year about that footfall basketball but the razor definitely that way. the depth of that team is absolutely incredible Tyler glasnost future cy. Young winner as the starter. So they're not gonna miss flakes. No richhill forty one years old. They're getting a new level out of him this year And then the real. The real power of this team is the bullpen. They are always five or six guys. Eat in five or six guys who are better than the top two on half the teams in baseball and this year for the first time in a long time. They're getting a lot of often to. They're getting a lot of power. They're they're They're getting on base at probably the best in the league if not the best. They're definitely up near the top solid team. The strongest team. Top to bottom in the american league this move to the al central. We all know the white sox. They survived that little storm with tony. Larussa mercedes and clubhouse not feeling that great about larussa calling out the young player. But i want to talk about the minnesota twins and what has happened to them. Byron buxton is coming back for them but when he went out they went straight down to the bottom. They're in last place in the al central even below two detroit tigers who are rebuilding. What happened there craig. Just across the board failure You know the starting pitching did not come through. J happens in a disaster. Matt shoemaker has been an even bigger disaster. Those were a couple of guys that really needs to step up their ace. Jose burritos he. He's good but he's not where they need him to be right now. The bullpen has been terrible. They've also been extraordinarily unlucky their record extra inning games. I don't have it off the top of my head but it's like really really bad. I think they've won one expert game out of something like eight or nine lost a lot of one run games. If anything has gone wrong for this team it has and like you mentioned buxton. He is distraught. That stirs the drink there. And he's losing him for so long Makes this lineup so much. Easier to pitch you. That a huge huge problem for them They're going to be a seller at the deadline at this point. I don't think they're going to be able to dig out of this hole. You're going to see someone like nelson cruz on the market and Just retrench ear a lot of talents. They're going to be fine again next year. Probably i think.

"Tops. Really past you know to be able to get a grip on. The baseball was a real challenge. You know spots and so definitely no. I would look for something to help you. Were there was firm drip whether it was some some other kacha plays. They're trying to keep the dream alive and continue to go. So it's difficult to put a number. But i will certainly phase until comfortable crying. More common than uncommon was speaking with former major league left handed pitcher janikowski who broke game with the cincinnati reds in thousand nine hundred five play for the tigers. The astros the mets the rangers. I'm running out of breath here. Cj going take every desk doger's real no doubt and last in the big leagues in two thousand five with the washington nationals. Here's my thing in the major leagues with pitchers and put stuff on the ball or whatnot. We have a couple legendary pictures. Gaylord perry's in the hall of fame and that was his whole ammo. You know whether he was doing it or faking. Batters out phil niekro is another guy. If you remember. I think it was filled. Who had an emmy board. He flipped out of his pocket right on about a foot. Everybody i mean this has been attached to baseball for a while. Cam baseball. honestly clean this up. Can this be cleaned up. I think we all look about knows old days. Because it's a little bit of a difference right. Scuffing baseball compared to using Maybe a foreign substance. And i say different just in practice. You're still going to get a similar result. But you get a guy that would kind of scuff one once in a while. He would do it all the time. We worried about getting cop. The sticky pretty much. Have it on your hand. You have it on your hand And that that one is better than the other but there are a little bit different and perhaps we should have been a little bit more harsh about it because they're always been In place other. You could do it. But i have reversing this. It's going to be a challenge for baseball. They're now pulling out all the stops. I think part of it is going back to what were just talking about is because the pictures are so good and the offense struggling. We stork lows and batting average. And if this keeps up we will have the lowest batting average ever in history of our games and trevor. Bauer kind of thing light. A couple of years ago right when he sorta kinda called out the name and saying well you guys each something spin rate. You shouldn't have to do that unless you're cheating. Vitamins all right now. There was a spotlight on this. Then because of that. And now we're seeing the really bad offense and the domination of fixtures until he is a guy that's been kind of behind whether he wanted to be or not he probably twitchy attention on this a little bit more than maybe he intended. And i'll make you gotta do something about. It could become a real challenge. I think it'll be interesting to watch these next couple of weeks. Especially after what. We saw a girl call. Nobody else wants to spend out there in front of reporters and to answer that question. Now it could be are using something now or something in the paphos. Two different questions like gaza top. Be extra careful because all is around them the more and more cameras and people trying to figure out exactly what the heck is going on here. so they will call the crackdown else trying to do what they can. And try to be snoopy But it does happen. A game has been happening baseball cup. Hands hold china trying to stop percents. Cj lasting and i mentioned jacob degrom earlier his array is. What is it zero sixty or something like that. Yeah like like a crazy number. Should we look at him and go man. He is just a lights out or now. Do we have to look and go. you know. i don't know is he that good or is it. What's going on in the game. Do you know what i mean. It kind of takes a little way from from. We always knew he was a great pitcher right even before to come out but but to have a zero sixty two era which we haven't seen. I think i'm going to have to question. Am i wrong. Well i think it's fair and that's that's a reality. That's the nature of what we do now in the media's when something's sticks out so drafted and then you get about what the other guys are doing. You can't help but wonder a little bit. And as much as it may seem unfair to the player. It's probably a fair question now is it. Goes back to the soda to me. It's one of the biggest tragedies foretaste jury is that it was so fun. I kid you sit there and watch the guy with fifty home runs going in and wondering because he'd be the one could he do it because he'd be like marriages records and it never happened and the six. I believe it's six times now that it happened since everything that is tied to be east. I wouldn't talk about merrick anymore. Sixty one and that is a tragedy you know. And i feel like we've been robbed to something because he's guys just went nuts with a sixty and then seventy three home runs and so now what you're seeing guys unbelievable things which are racing as and now you start hearing about other things that were going on. You can't help but be a little bit suspicion. I have no specific personally about this but at the same time i get why people may ask that question and anybody else in the mix you saw the book on cole space. What if he the new york yankees and you gave him as us three hundred million dollar contracts. You saw how much better he got. Going from pittsburgh's to houston and you start to wonder about was using some substances. That helped him be that good. And if you're going to stop now. And what does that mean for the rest of the time under this contract with the yankees. I don't doubt at least a little bit concerned. Don't really concerned Hopefully it's not gonna be as drastic as the drop off and he's not back to the guy who wasn't pittsburgh and i don't think that'll be the case but when you have guys it dominated over these last few years have been better than they were a couple of years ago at this level and now we're hearing about the sixty south and then what it can have on their pitchers. I think i think we all need to be a little bit serious. The people that are asking the questions and baffled no doubt about it mad. Cj thanks for your knowledge man. We really appreciate it. Cj nikolsky with the texas rangers broadcast team on television during the game. Down there cj. We'll catch up which assume a man stay well fox. Sports radio has the best sports talk lineup. I guess it's all pitching twenty nine and twenty four coming into wednesday Do they have enough offense. Will they be able to survive this. I know the pitching has been outstanding. You know the worst thing that happened to them was in that first month beginning of may when they lost all those guys the injuries they lost conforto. He's still going obviously but they have lost Pete alonso for a while they're still out jeff mcneil And francisco lindores has played well at all and they're still in first place. I think that's the thing that's going to tell me that. They have staying power. They took a big hit and they did it at the right time. They did it when the braves weren't doing anything The nationals are clearly not the team. we thought they'd be the phillies have been a mass in a lotta ways A good time for the mets to get hurt. I think if anything they're going to be stronger lindores not going to be a below average hitter all year. You not two hundred to twelve hit or whatever. He's doing right now. That is going to be sustainable. He's gonna do better he's gonna tear Conforto is gonna come back. And he's gonna be alright pete alonso can say about him he. He's been fantastic but he has another year over what he's doing now. I think the mets are pretty formidable. And and look. Let's let's not undersell. I don't believe in you know in all the the good juju bad juju and and all that stuff that's around the team but getting a new owner getting a new mindset getting a new front office. "The parker. You give us twenty two minutes. We'll give you the scoop on major league baseball now. Here's baseball hall of fame. Voter number eighty three rob. Parker i welcome into the podcast. I'm your host rob parker. What a show we have on tap for you today. I we're going talk with. Cj mcaliskey the former major league pitcher about all the goings on with the strange stuff and substances would pitchers will also go to catch up with craig calcaterra. Who has a daily newsletter. Called cup of coffee. He'll give some baseball insights. That and much more. Let's go to lead off. It's getting rough and keep him. Oh robs hot take on the three biggest stories in major league baseball number one here. We go again yes. Baseball has an issue with players cheating doing things they're not supposed to. And yesterday we saw garrett cole front and center looking like he saw a ghost when he was asked a question of whether or not he put foreign substance on the ball and he said he didn't know how to answer the question. I it's either. Yes or no or no comment or you know saying he didn't know how to answer. It was very very well. Felt bad for the guy like he didn't know what was coming. And you know baseball has another issue to deal with and something has to be done. Because we're seeing these on no hitters. All across the board or record number were seeing Raise all-time low would potentially going to have the lowest batting average. In the history of baseball something is off kilter and not right and maybe it was hitters before had an advantage. Now pitchers have a big advantage. And it's just not good for the game. We need to get it right to put people on a fair a level playing field so that hitters can be hitters pitchers can be pitchers and neither side dominates too much but definitely baseball needs to jump in and get something straightened out number. Two tuesday nights shohei otani was on display in anaheim. That's why better known to me as shohei me the money. Otani the two fee nom hitter projected four hundred and seventy foot home. Run the right center field. He jumped all over a two to and to change up and blasted. It was incredible. It passed his previous record of four hundred and fifty one feet and i. I don't even know what to say. What kind of season this guys had. And what an impact he's had on baseball and he is something to watch. He's must see tv. I live in los angeles whenever they're playing. I'm always trying to catch his at bats and put on the tv. Because it's worth it. I wanna see his at bats if he's gonna pitch. I want to watch him pitch. It's incredible This is a once in a lifetime kind of guy. We didn't get to see babe ruth but this is as close as we'll probably ever see it. And i don't know we'll this spur on other guys to play two ways but i'm watching this guy all the time number three. We know the baltimore orioles on having a great year. They're in last place in the al lease but there's center fielder cedric mollins. Having a great year the center fielder. Coming into wednesday's batting three twenty five with nine home runs one thousand nine hundred eighty nine stolen bases and the no. Ps of nine thirty five and last week he was named mlb. Bro homeboy highlights winter when he batted five thirty five. He's swinging the bat plan. A great centerfield. It'll be interesting to see if he makes the all star team and whether or not fans look at him and maybe even consider him as a starter incentive fuel for the american league. I know byron. Buxton is coming back from injury from the twins. He should be the starting center fielder but he's mistime but let's tip our caps to cedric mullins and hop. He's swinging in baltimore here comes. The big interview listened handler. Which so good. Now let's welcome into podcasts. Former left handed pitcher cj cousy who is currently a color analyst for the texas ranger on bali sports southwest and a friend of mine who i covered in detroit. Cj welcome to the podcast. What's happening not crop critical. No doubt about it. Hey you're the perfect guy to talk about this pitching what's going on in baseball. We know we're at a record rate of more strikeouts than hits. I mean it's just an incredible phenomenon. What's happening this year. We've seen all these no hitters. Cj you know. Jacob degrom has like a ridiculous enor- rain that we haven't seen since bob gibson and they had the lowered amount after bob gibson. So where are you on this. And the whole spin spinning the ball or putting foreign substance on the ball. And then we had garrett cole yesterday who basically was about putting foreign substance on the ball and said he didn't know how to answer the question. Help me out. What kind of answer was that was amazing and my art. Thanks for a little bit because his thing like that there are things that have been accepted within the game. Even though that they're gets a rule though tweets about at best that's not a surprise but flat out asked that question. The way they came to david opted in that boom and reaction I mean there was a lot of silencer guate- policies in between words. And you know he said without saying with his words. I think we all kind of knew. Exactly what the answer to that question and i'm not a big fan of yes or no questions. I always want to give opportunity to talk through it a little bit more but there had to be a yes or no in there somewhere in there what we were left to draw our own conclusions. I think we'll probably do the same conclusion. Going back to what you were talking about. Nineteen sixty eight and bob gibson and thinking about how ridiculous pictures worth so much that they had to lower the mounds outraged by gun was about fifteen percent. You know basically plate appearances that ended in the fifty percents The numbers now. Twenty five percent ten percent worse than the strikeout standpoint when be lowered to mounds of nineteen sixty. It's just what a difference it really is when it comes to putting the ball in play for a short pass. They're not afraid could make some changes to the rule to even things out and how common of a practices. This i mean without giving up ca secrets or naming names. I mean how. How does is this going on throughout major league baseball and exist the norm rather than the nominally it always had. It's very difficult to put a number on it. I'm always careful to do that. With the and i was even surprised quite honestly like i got an idea. Maybe where we were and then things started falling apart. Wow is probably more than. I realized. You'd when i was playing so i can tell you that my last pitch in january twenty twelve down in the dominican republic in certainly still using it. Then i define tards. Different parts of my career struggling. Maybe with grip or just wanted to get micro ball. Extend a little bit more. Meteorologist struggling On the mound let go to phases. I wouldn't call it in everyday all the time things But i and. I'd say that's probably the case for a lot of guys and whether it's player ball i was talking about trying to to go in april. The south was really past. You're going to be able to get a grip on. The baseball. was a real challenge. You know spots and so I would look for something that he'll be where there was firm grip whether it was Khatun plays they're trying to keep the dream alive and continue to go so it's difficult to put number. But i will certainly stays and feel comfortable more common than i'm coming. Speaking with former major league left handed pitcher c j mcaliskey who broke game with the cincinnati reds in nineteen ninety-five. Play for the tigers. The astros the mets the rangers. I'm running out of breath. Your cj.

In minnesota yesterday garrett cole was asked by ken david off of the new york post specifically weather garrett cole you spider tax. I don't know. I don't know i don't know how to answer that. There are customs and practices that have been passed down from over players younger players from the last generation of players to this generation of players. And know i think. I think there are some things that are certainly outbound in that regard and stood pretty stood pretty firm in terms of terms of the communication between our peers and whatnot Again like i mentioned earlier. There's this is important to a lot of people. Don't let the game. This is including clean players in this room including fans including teams in. "Keller there it is why he doesn't do it. Did you guys see the one of Jonathan scope like his last three years in Baltimore start out smiling? And then he was okay. And then he was frowning in the lab. You have obviously because the way the w- where they went eventually down the down the rabbit hole there guys. I'm not even gonna ask you guys. Because I know you guys are you talked about in happen how you're still buying in. And you do the Harris me about him about not smiling. So we'll move onto the next one here. And then I'll start with you on this. When speaking up Baltimore. Good transition there. Cedric Mollins going to seventy three on average. He had fifteen homers in twenty seven stolen bases per six hundred plate appearances in the minors is a sneaky late gamble that. You're that you're looking to get you know, I wasn't into it for a while. But now that I know he's gonna hit leadoff. I like that. I saw them today in a game when I came home they're showing the replay because cross two bombs and Cedric Mullins got on in immediately looked to steal I and I think we're going to see just so much out of him doing that this season. So, yeah, I'm in onset McMullan's. I think I'd rather have him over Domingo's Santana. Okay. Well is going to be cheaper. So if you're factoring that and I can understand it. He's going to have more speed too in the speed is probably the bigger rarity. I think I would still need Santana. But I don't think that's greed three to say that at all, especially Santana's price continues to rise. Then I might be changing my tune. But said Molin seems like a pretty interesting sneak dip, their Welch was the of any note, I know that the system is pretty devoid of prospects. But was he one of their guys that that they're putting some hopes on here for subject moans, Durban Feldman? That's not even real players been Furby. No, he was kind of in that like middle spot for the for the Mariners for the thing about Domingo's Santana for the Orioles there for a bit. But also like if you look at some of the moves that they've done and how they've been developing their system, they're getting outfielders. You know, the big trade was for using the as, you know. And then they brought in and they've got Austin Hayes. I mean, they're kind of built for the future and outfield, but he's done fine. One thing. I would. Mark for a guy like Cedric Mullins here is if you're post two hundred I'm probably more interested in less done a killer job in the beginning and get like, Widmaier, 'field, whatever stolen bases. I'm more prone to want these type of players like Domingo's Santana and Mullins than I am the man Sienese, the critics BRUCE'S what we talked about those late power as I'd over the pop. Yeah. Yeah. I I like my double digit power and speed if I'm going to put that at the back end of my outfields, I'm more prone to take these I wouldn't say like, I'm j-, you know, running to the draft board to get Mullins. But I like the potential of leading offer garbage team. He's going to tune ity is one of the best sneaker secret fantasy type of things sneaky fantasy things that we can have with guys like Mullins and Santana on garbage team. So sure fifteen fifteen I will be more than happy. I'd rather do it than you know, Pulkovo, Bruce. Yeah. No, I feel that just one of the things I've been harping on throughout the season is not freaking out where guys are gonna play. And blocking off great talent. Or just ignoring that town at the draft table because of that because so many things happen..

"I got nothing then you can turn I would turn to grey over Marco Gonzalez. I would turn to. Gray over a cow gifts in the worst pitcher that's ever major league. Phase. I would too great. I would turn to grey over Dylan Bundy, and I know Dylan bundy's got that great slider. But I think he's got a lot more to fix than than Sonny gray does especially if ends up in like Oakland because then because the Orioles aren't gonna win any games so tackling. The Orioles could easily set the all time, and you guys more. You guys are gonna win more than Baltimore too. So even anywhere in the bay area. So. I know we're both going through it. Right. We had it. We had our time to shine. You guys actually finished the deal. We my beloved Tigers came close and couldn't quite get it. But we we were in the spotlight for a hell of a decade for both both ball gloves. And now it's time to eat the dirt and work the way back up. So I got calling called the giants Homer by someone in the comments of one of our episodes. And if he's still listening, you just wait until we start talking about giants players this year because I am going to just ripped my team constantly, well, then, but then way until you guys actually do the rebuild. And you have all these these interesting prospects to talk about then then he'll really like that you. Office means five years, dude. Yeah. You come at me and five years. All right. So those are the those are the moves right now a little bit a little bit chilly on the stove right now. But still getting those trickling moves, obviously, we're still waiting on the two biggies and even some others beyond that. But let's talk about some breakout hinders post three hundred hundred mentioned as well. Let me just go through him again, real quick. These are the guys that went post three hundred last year, and you know, the kind of seasons they had and it ranges from like nice speedster too big power guy to middle. Infielder who did a bit of everything and kind of all that inbetween Alberto mandis Malik Smith's, Jake Krohn, jed Lowrie Johan Camargo McGowan too hard. Hey, Suzanne, gular, Brandon Nimmo jerks and pro-foreign Harrison baiter and that which is the sampling. And so you kind of run the gamut there from Uber blocked to post high prospect Alberto had been a big prospect. But he wasn't really giving the opportunity until later in the season to kind of a solid, but boring guy who had a job we've talked about guys. Like like, Wilmer Flores. We see Jake Krohn. We talked about probably last year saying, well, he's got a job. But what's what's really going to always going to go on thirty homers and basically free for you in age guide. These aren't just a lot of our guys are younger, we focused more on the younger end. But like a gentle Oury. So there are some veteran types who could come up and really be the surprise is as well. So let's let's just go ahead and dive right into ours. Let's start with your guy who just falls inside the top three hundred. But you want to mention him. And because of the team is on. I think it's worse spotlighting him because I don't know that he's going to get enough love. So why don't you tell us a little bit about Cedric Mohan's in why you like him out there in Baltimore. He's at two ninety two. So we we fund a little bit. But I thought it was worth keeping him in. So go ahead and talk about Cedric Mullins, well, and you can pretty much put half of this Orioles lineup in this category of guys who are going outside the top three hundred because they're awful. But could have a chance to break out because the team is awful. So you know, Mullins is the guy I'm highlighting right here. But you know, Austin Hayes is in this category Renato Nunez. You know, these guys Hayes, I think is you know, he was everybody's favorite sleeper last year really underperformed in the minors. And so he never kind of made it back up, but Rinaldo Nunez. He's only twenty five. He's a former prospect former top prospect that has never really panned out. But he's got power. He's going to play third base every day for the Orioles..

Jake Krohn Dylan Bundy Rinaldo Nunez Orioles Cedric Mohan Austin Hayes Sonny gray Baltimore Alberto mandis Malik Smith Cedric Mullins Tigers Marco Gonzalez Wilmer Flores Uber Oury Oakland Brandon Nimmo Johan Camargo McGowan Suzanne
