And cedarville, the widening project, brings traffic down to single file on 28 both ways between old mill road and Compton road. In the district, rock creek Parkway milling and paving more paving now and northbound for that. All lanes are blocked between the Potomac freeway in Virginia avenue, northbound from the Lincoln Memorial and memorial bridge, traffic is sent on to the I 66 Potomac freeway behind the candidate center, southbound traffic on rock creek Parkway does get by single file. Congress 'close' to a deal on COVID-19 relief bill
"Dive into something that I think that's been on quite a few on their mind. And that's that's this cove in 19 relief bill at this point that a second stimulus I know our small businesses, especially are hoping for some good here. Where we at right now, because I know as of yesterday they were closing in on this $900 billion economic relief package. Any chance that we could see this happen to wrap up in the next 48 hours? Mark? Yeah, I think there's a really good chance. I think this is closer than it. Certainly it's been since we had the first stimulus back in the spring. On day. I think we're going to see something here. Real quickly. Leadership from both parties have stepped forward. They both made a public commitment. You know, Mitch McConnell said that we're not leaving Washington until we get something finished. So I think given those words, I think you will see a package of some kind pass here pretty soon. We also have a funding issue. The federal government where it runs out of funding tomorrow night. They have to sort of deal of these things together to some extent, and so I think that the little bit of pressure on it as well. So I think it's very likely. We're gonna see something. Does that come first funding the government like they did last week? They wanted to get that out of the way. And then the covert 19. Really, Phil? What? How does that work? It doesn't necessarily have to come first, and they don't necessarily have to be connected in terms of bills. But right now they're just operating under some spending pressure, and they have some necessity to get something done. So there's an environment right now where they're willing to negotiate and talk. That hasn't been the case, obviously, for the past six or seven months, which is really frustrating to me. It's really frustrating your listeners. Yeah, but now they seem to be at the right moment where they're gonna actually get something done. I wish this was in April, Mayor Jim Frankly, but I suppose better late than never, Right. No kidding. Marc Caleb Smith, professor of political science at Cedarville University with us this morning a news radio 6 10 W. T V and mark if we could go specifically, they're talking direct payments, perhaps $600 to most Americans 300 per week bonus federal unemployment. It's a little different from the first package that we had over the summer little bit different. It looks like the stimulus checks to be about half the size that they were. Before, if it if it stays it is, you know, I know there's a push from different parts of both parties to make those more like the $1200 payments we saw earlier in the spring. It's interesting. The progressives you're led by people like AOC and the Conservatives, led by people like Senator Holly are both gonna pushing in different ways to get those stimulus check full that higher. Yeah, I think that's gonna happen. It looks like, um, an increased pool of funds for small businesses is going to be made available. And so I think you know, it isn't gonna be perfect. But I think that it will have some positive effects. You and Mark. I was surprised to see that thesixties rid dollar direct payment while yes, I realize it's not $1200. It was endorsed by the president. And also Senator Bernie Sanders, like talk about to Boulder opposites, no questions and, you know, it's interesting. We don't see a lot of compromise in Washington D C these days. It looks like they're willing to compromise on this, which is positive. I just wish it had been sort of put in the frame before the election to place. You know the election to seem to crowd out all these issues, and that's really unfortunate, um, that this wasn't dealt with earlier, but, yeah, they are working together and any that's positive.

We know the Trump impeachment trial was historic. Here are some moments that made it memorable.
"The president dodges a removal from office the impeachment ends in acquittal I'm just kind of curious I guess when you see how this played out is is this gonna may be tipped the scales a little more toward the executive branch you think the president's gonna have a little more power now moving forward you know I don't think so I know some people are talking about that being a possibility maybe Adam Bolden's president trump to do some things but I don't think it really changes the power dynamics between congressman presidency those things have been changing for you know over a hundred years really the president's grown in power congresses are given some of that power back you could also argue that the threat to impeachment carrying out impeachment on voting in a trial maybe will chase and president trump little bit at least let him know that impeachment a real possibility so it could go one of two directions the president trump doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who's gonna be chastened by what took place yeah well he he doesn't involve him in the office but it might embolden more on the campaign trail a very well could very well could and if he does what does that look like that would be my question he's he's pretty he's pretty much out there right now and he's doing rallies and stuff if it goes farther than it will definitely be worth watching okay so we'll keep an eye on that I'm curious to what do you make of Mitt Romney breaking ranks far as I know he was the only Republican that voted against the president and you just kind of wondering knows that he's still got sour grapes because he ran for president didn't make it is he got some person with the president or did he just see the way the Democrats was a it was incredible a breach in the he should have been removed yeah it could be a combination of all of those things I think though we could at least say that for Romney it would've been easier to vote with all the other Republicans and he's gonna get if he's already gotten on social media he's already got an avalanche of reaction of the Republican National Committee disavowed and the Utah Republican Party disavowed his actions and so this is going to make it pretty lonely out there so it's a matter of sour grapes not winning the presidency in twenty twelve and he's gonna pay a price for that so I think that is probably more than that with him I you know he's he's will he have obviously a lot of money he's fine his future is cemented so it is a like he's gonna pay financial calls to lose a job is going to damage and but I think it's a fair bit of bravery foreign to step forward and become the first person in the Senate to ever vote to remove the president from his own party acting there had to be at least some principle involved in what he greeted him or not I think we want to see our politicians act the principal sometimes even there's a cost so that's the thing I mean you know Utah disavows a Republican Party disavows them but but ultimately will that maybe races stock people say well here's a guy that speaks his mind that's a guy we should pay attention to yeah I think so and and if you look at his numbers even in Utah he outperform the president pretty dramatically when he ran for reelection to the election two thousand nineteen I think he is far more popular and you saw the trumpeters and so it isn't as if you did this and he was from Alabama or South Carolina well and there's even a serious movement maybe even to recall ever get rid of them so and I think his stature will go up a little bit and certainly go up in the eyes of some Democrats and some other people who are always looking for those willing to criticize the president but I think it is a historic moment and every one of those things we talk about well in the future Dr mark Caleb Smith our guest director center for political studies at Cedarville university it kind of touched on it but you think you're gonna hear much more but I mean the president didn't talk about the impeachment all during the state of the union the state do you think it's going to be you know maybe via Twitter fast you think he's going to be talking about having beaten that to in the next day or two I think you will I don't think the president could real resisted for very long whether on Twitter or whether it's in his next campaign rally or whatever it may be I think it's gonna talk about us and he's gonna rather than the Democrats a little bit yeah this is going to keep him from giving the nicknames this is a guy keep him from bringing it up and using it as a campaign to all your yard talked over the last several months that we think may be the end of this president trump emerges stronger than he was before if you look at his public approval ratings it's taking up and I think it's going to help him for reelection and so if the Democrats of their whole goal was to weaken the president I think they failed I got just a couple of minutes before I got to get the traffic and weather so I'll ship it over Iowa you know I mean we got a debate for the Democrats Friday night the next the primary New Hampshire that's coming up early next week but I what I get I think I saw there down to ninety seven percent of the votes tallied and kind of what we knew seems to be holding true mayor Pete and Bernie the top two and you know really wafer thin margins between those two so do you feel like that blue ease them into the debate does that bully them into New Hampshire and conversely is that good because Biden and so forth is he going to be really out their guns you gonna try to get as much Mike time as he can during that Friday night debate it'll be interesting to watch I think the results certainly will help make your peace and health and moving forward every candidate it's going to benefit from a dramatic reading of the hand I don't think it's going to be enough to probably propelling toward surprise victory in New Hampshire he's moving in the polls a little bit New Hampshire right now but I would be stunned if anyone the burning lens that pretty decisively sorry in some way this is going to play out to form that's as Biden's done a little worse than we thought he's done a little bit better and the question really for me is give me once you get out of New Hampshire and you start to see places like South Carolina and Nevada voters will biting bubble back up again he doesn't but I think that's the end of the campaign yeah so if he doesn't you know the sense kind of was you know maybe month month and a half ago that he was kind of a National Front runner so if you're with the DNC right now you're probably doing some mad shuffling in re figuring archer I think that you are but you know I don't know you can really do about it I mean you could start you can go after Bernie you can send your proxies out there to attack burning and to try to get voters behind the more moderate choice would be interesting to see that of the elite sort of rally around P. as the alternative of the slightly more you know moderate midwestern kind of guy but you're gonna see some panic moments I think not unlike what we saw in twenty sixteen Republicans are grappling with what to do about from yeah well and then too I mean if it's mayor Pete moving forward I mean at least you can look back at Barack Obama and say well here's a guy that frankly didn't have a whole lot of experience that presented pretty well nice enough looking guy may your pizza similar in that regard is he not here and he's a he's obviously highly intelligent he's accomplished in his own way not a lot of political experience with more than Donald Trump had when he walked into the White House and I get the sense that he could probably hold is for the most part our debate stage of Donald Trump trump would make it personal trump would go after and as long as he could figure out we do all of that I think you'd be fine I I don't know that would be enough yeah but I think you probably would become a credible candidate doesn't have a nickname for him yet doesn't but I've heard okay just wait well that's the thing if you keep showing well you might have to
