"People traditionally considered to be sexy for, according to New York Times, people who are not They are doing that because the very idea of making oneself desirable to another person is now consider wrong, unjust and bigoted. You've seen a lot of Tiktok's going around. Tick tock. I guess I actually I'm not on tiktok because I don't want to give the Jinping all of my data. But you do see these videos going around Youtuber going around Twitter. From Tiktok and a woman explained. The Even even murkier, more bigoted orange origins of fat phobia. It doesn't just come from anti fatness. It also comes from Racism. Here's your reminder that fat phobia is rooted in racism as always, If you haven't read this book, go do that. The main thing to understand is that for the last 300 ish years, white folks have been marketing fatness as a black trait. And this is, regardless of whether or not black people individually were actually fat. That was irrelevant. The message they spread was that black women specifically were ravenous and uncontrollable in these barbaric treats made them fat. On the flip side, thinness was marketed as white trait again, regardless of whether or not individual white people were actually thin. That was irrelevant. The idea was that white women specifically were refined and restrained, and this led them to having delicate thin bodies. Over the years, These messages have become more subtle. But even today they're still very prevalent and conversations around race, health, capitalism and poverty. So so fat phobia is the Well, I guess literally. It would mean the irrational fear of that people, But that's not what we're talking about here. What she means fat phobia. She means having a reference, specifically a sexual preference for people that you find more attractive than other people. And if you have that if you have just a natural attraction that's bigoted. That's racist. And she's saying that fat phobia. The by which he means just being attracted to people you're attracted to. That is rooted in racism because Terrible white people. All those white people marketed the idea that black women were fat, regardless of the individual black women. Now, do you notice the logical error there? She's saying it's terrible to generalize about black women. Which is what all those all those white people did. Well hold. Aren't you generalizing about the white people? You're you're willing to get specific and individual about the black people, but not about the white people because there's a complete double standard because this argument is incoherent, but it's just designed to get at a deep racial animus. And she says, this is was awful. Let's assume that her premise is true that in popular culture, black women were considered to be On average, more likely to be fat. That's just true. That's that's true. That's actually one of the reasons that the coronavirus was tougher in black communities, and it wasn't white communities. It's because Certain black communities they were more likely to be obese and obesity was co morbidity, Obesity was was considered to be a factor that would put you at greater risk. So yeah, that that's true. You're denying now statistics the right facts that we can see from the CDC and from from other agencies. Is that it's a hate fact, you're not allowed to acknowledge that. No. Because if you acknowledge that fact than You're perpetuating inequality. Well, it wouldn't It be better than to just like try to solve the problem will know if you try to solve the problem and deal with these health issues in the black community, which we have been told is very important. Part of inequality is that there are worse health outcomes in the black community. Okay, Well, then, perhaps we should tell people who are obese to lose weight. Well, you can't do that, because that's fat phobic. Well, then, what on earth are we supposed to do? You're supposed to feel bad about yourself. And you're supposed to deny your attractions and you're supposed to hate your self and your ancestry and you're supposed to upend nature. Oh, is that all okay, That's fine. That's what that's ultimately what it comes down to. There can be no solution to this. There can be no victory. More on that in just a minute. But first, if the last 18 months have not convinced you that you should be prepared for an emergency. Then I don't know what will frankly ready wise? That.

"So it was like in this time when the roles has changed if they can right now today and keep me out of this house. I ain't got nowhere to go. I'll be looking at a hotel room and hotel rooms, of course, are more expensive than just renting your place. So people end up falling deeper and deeper into debt, a lot of the time, even living in their cars that you can just end up in this downward spiral. But Congress approved billions of dollars in rental assistance to help people like Ivy Ross. I mean, why hasn't that come through for so many people who are in that situation? Well, you know, that's just kind of all over the map. There are now 389 different programs trying to distribute this federal money. Ari and some are working really well. Now, some are a mess. Ivy Ross was told that it was too late for him to apply that wasn't even true. Meanwhile, the clock is ticking and seven million people are still behind on rent and the CDC moratorium ends in two weeks. Is there a chance The administration might extend that moratorium. They have extended it in the past. It's not clear if they'll do that again. One argument for extending it is to give this rental assistance money and the programs more time to work. In Boston this week. I talked to a renter. She's an African American single mom with two kids Nancy Meraz Knee and she says she's never faced eviction. Before this. She lost work during the pandemic, and she was really scared. But the program they're just told her she is getting a lot of background paid with that federal money. I believe it was 15,000. I was in complete shock. I was I was crying. I was in tears. I was so grateful. I was so excited and so happy that finally something good is happening. And of course, she doesn't have that huge debt hanging over her head, either. But you know, in a lot of places, it's just not working this well yet, and people need more time to get the help. CDC to Meet on Rare Heart Inflammation Following COVID Vaccines

"Fading from view comes another potential twist. I wouldn't panic. The CDC says It will hold an emergency meeting this week to talk about a higher than usual number of cases of heart inflammation reported following Covid 19 vaccinations. Why is not entirely clear that obvious concern is that Some way. Somehow, the vaccine stimulates your immune system, which then acts against your heart causes injury to the heart. Another concern it seems to be popping up more and young people, According to a recent report, the CDC identified 226 cases of the condition called myocarditis in people, 30 or younger who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Most were mailed, and the conditions seem to occur more often after their second does with chest pain as the most common symptom myocarditis is rare across across the board. It is a rare thing, Cornwell says. Most young, healthy people should fully recover over time. A rare minority will have serious complications from it, which can be you know if you have permanent heart damage from inflammation of your heart. Um, that obviously is a serious problem. It's too early to say for certain if these cases are directly tied to the covid vaccine or the result of better reporting, But Cornwell says, it's all part of a learning process. Everything we do in medicine has risks. You know, A lot of what we do is a risk benefit ratio, and we try to apply the things where the benefits are large and the risks are small. The CDC's emergency meeting is scheduled for June 18th. Dr Cornwell says he expects will have a little more information on this in the next few weeks. Once Rachel skied

So when did it take so long for them to walk this back because we've been using disinfectants for this whole time over disney back. They call it hygiene theater. And what's interesting about. That is because we're using so much more disinfectants we're gonna get a higher rate of poisoning higher rate of kalsa poison control. So here's those numbers so this is an update. "Last thing. When you place an order with a restaurant you picture it as having been cooked welp in a restaurant right but wouldn't matter if it wasn't yesterday. Windy signed a deal. In india that will allow people in hundreds of neighborhoods to get wendy's fast food. Despite only having nine wendy's restaurants in india instead customers will be ordering through a cloud kitchen as in you. Place your order to win these online. That order starts getting prepared in a random kitchen could be anywhere could be a warehouse on the outskirts of town could be a kitchen in. Someone's house if you walked by you would never know it was filled with wendy's employees grilling up windies patties. All you would see was a bunch of delivery guys waiting for their orders and when it comes to your door you would never know. They're still not technically a wendy's restaurant within a miles. These cloud kitchens not just an indian thing right now. Thousands of americans are ordering chicken from this restaurant called just wings. You say no no no net. They don't none of that and he says issues wings wings is not a restaurant. It's the cloud kitchen concept from chile's no dining room. There's just locations where a bunch of people prepare online orders all day even when the pandemic subsides you might still see more of these places they're cheaper than a place where tables and more americans have gotten used to ordering in. The food is presumably the same quality. You'd expect in june or wendy's but when you order maybe replace that image of brick and mortar restaurant with just some passing clouds. "In the gop for questioning the integrity of the twenty twenty election. My boss secretary ravensburger. His address is out then. They have people doing caravans one of their house. They've had people come to their property tricia his wife a forty years is getting centralized threats through her cell phone. It has to stop. This is elections. This is the backbone of democracy and all of you who have not said a damn word are complicit in this there are a few prominent republicans who are acknowledging. Yes joe biden one. He's the president-elect but others are doing it in kind of this quiet way. And i think we all know that after the first of the year. There's likely it'd be a discussion about additional Some additional package of some size next fewer depending upon what the new administration wants to pursue. That was mitch. Mcconnell referring to the new administration those are the words he used but if you ask him straight up he will not say. Joe biden is the president elect but the signals are clear. Lots of people in positions of power are accepting what's happening here and they're preparing accordingly. Abc senior editorial producer. Johnson tucci is with us and john. We've seen president trump at times. I use his attorney. General almost like a personal lawyer in cases involving will william barr yesterday. Attorney general basically came out and said himself. This election was fair. Is this battle over. For president trump. Yeah we'll honestly brad. This is just growing list of people that are coming forward saying this election was free and fair and there were no issues. This wasn't rigged. There was no massive fraud as the president rudy. Giuliani liked to say would bar told the associated press today quote. We have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected different outcome in the election. He specifically shot down. One of the president's most explosive claims that voting machines were manipulated to help. Joe biden win saying simply. We haven't seen anything to substantiate that. This is just a matter of time. Now brad amine sources. We talked to all throughout the white house. Close to the president admit it is game over. They know that come january twentieth. Donald trump will be leaving the white house one way or another. It's not like you're going to change my mind. My mind will not change in six months. there was tremendous cheating here. The president is still going to keep this going. They are continuing fundraising efforts. You saw overnight. We've learned the president and his team have raised at least one hundred and seventy million dollars and that money could be used for some future legal cases that they are still bringing certain that there will be a court decision that will allow us to present our evidence rudy. Giuliani is scheduled to do a few more state appearances across the country this week but for the most part brad sources we talked to believe this is money. The president will use eventually down the road for a potential twenty twenty four bid or at least to keep the speculation of twenty twenty four alive. I mean i like the same pot. Essential hundred percent. The money's going to get used eventually may not get used this time around but it will get used for something else and i think that the reminder to all of us is just because donald trump is leaving the white house. Stage does not mean. He's gonna leave the national stage. He is fully going to be out there in some way shape or form over the next four years. Okay so then at the same time you always know. A president is almost out of office. When you start hearing about the p. word and you have gotten new information about what pardons that we might see here like. What are you hearing about. A list of potential pardons will. We're hearing brad. That list of pardons is growing by the day. The calls according to one source. We spoke to insane. They do not stop meantime. President trump making news late today pardoning his former national security adviser. Michael flynn who plead guilty twice to line to the fbi. Now we're told the list is really getting divided into two camps if you will the first are the trump friends the allies the acquaintances that are reaching out to their friends in and around the white house trying to get someone or in some cases themselves on the pardon lewis. That's group one now. Group two is the more if you will traditional end of a presidential term people that are lobbying the government for people that are currently behind bars and cam told me that i was being released. That was going home. I started jumping up and screaming and crying and everyone's seen this president has done that before. Look at alice johnson. A first time offender african american woman. That's that list. These are people that the president.

"Trust the scientists, and if we're talking about information and misinformation I, thought, it was shocking that one of president trump's own guys and health and Human Services said that they are big gaps between the White House and the scientific community. But he wasn't saying the CDC is getting messed year he was saying there is. A huge conspiracy against president trump right. So you're talking about Michael Caputo. So, Michael Caputo is the press secretary for HHS. He is a former political operative campaign official for trump who was sent over to the agency. To sharpen the message on the pandemic, the Biden campaign also responding to a new political report alleging trump officials are interfering with CDC reports. Howard reported that he and one of his senior advisors he had brought in Dr Paul Alexander had been pressuring the CDC to a change some of its scientific documents emails show that Michael Caputo his team changed scientific reports so that the reports didn't undermine the president's messaging. This caused quite a stir, and then on Sunday he took to facebook live the partisan Democrats the conjugal. Media. And the scientists, the deepest state scientists. Want America sick through November. ranted essentially about the government scientists now, Buffalo. News, and Yahu. Obtained video of Caputo's rant that sedition, they're sacrificing lives. In order to call trump, and once that made it out into the public sphere that became untenable for him to stick around, and he offered to take a medical leave of absence. He had said he had some health issues. But we know from our own reporting is that he did not have a lot of fans inside hhs and CDC and they felt that he had politicized the message too much. So HHS said he'll be gone for sixty days that'll, of course, take us past the election and then we'll see where we go from there. Yeah, and parts of that that were disturbing beyond anything medical but I do think just getting the facts behind how this vaccine is GonNa roll out when it does finally get made and approved and distributed distinct so important for so many people to know about inflammatory thanks for setting some light on. Thanks brand. NEXT UP ON START HERE, they'll take the delay of game why the Midwest is a to seat college football after all second half kickoff coming up. When Corona virus cases were surging again, this summer and schools were still deciding whether to have students come to class colleges actually had to make a quicker decision the most because they had to the side, are we really going to have football season? We have news tonight on the Rutgers University football team the COVID nineteen outbreak for them worsening twenty-eight players and staff reportedly testing positive practices often go through summer. So the question was we`ll We put people unnecessary risk by even having them gather here. Players were concerned that schools were exploring their safety. The players say they should be able to opt out without losing eligibility and call for universally mandated health and safety protocols. We want to have a season, but we want to do it right away and communities were worried about whether they're bars and restaurants would survive a full year without home games we have eighty percent unemployment. And the restaurant industry sixty, five percent loss of revenue in the in the. Hotel Industry. Loss of Penn State football impacts, all of that to the nation's most storied conferences said, they were just calling it quits no football this year but then yesterday, the big ten reversed course less than five weeks after voting to postpone the season to keep players safe amid pandemic, they're now looking to start games the weekend of October twenty third? Dinner She covers college football for our partners at ESPN and Heather I find this fascinating because these are just sports right. They're not even just businesses when you talk about these conferences, these are some of America's biggest conglomerations of corporations and that is really how they are treated by a lot of money to interest and by a lot of regular people. So what changed for the Big Ten? The biggest change was the medical information this past weekend the fourteen. Presidents and chancellors heard about rapid antigen tests that can be used on a daily basis that would significantly limit contact tracing in as we looked at the various testing options, we became more and more convinced that there was a path forward and Dr Jim Borders who is a leading voice in all of this for the big ten he talked about how it can significantly decrease infectiousness in practices. Any games were very likely to reduce infectiousness inside practice in game competitions. To near one hundred percent so it was the testing aspect of it coupled with the concerns over the heart were worried about a condition called Myocarditis, an inflammation or infection of the heart muscle. This is a leading cause of sudden cardiac death in athletes under the age of thirty five. So each player who test positive not only has to sit out for twenty one days, but they also have to go through a battery of tests. And then they have to be approved by a university appointed cardiologists the only focus and Goldie we've had over the last forty days was to safely allow our student athletes to return to competition between being able to test them every day and being able to mitigate those fears, surrounding myocarditis and the unknown lasting implications of the heart. The university presidents in the big ten we're convinced. Okay. This is safe enough that we can do this now. Speed, quarterback Justin field started an online petition Sunday titled We want to play as a lot of players more safer. Zuhdi pressure facing them from the rest of the country because I imagine when they were one of the first to say we're not gonNA play football. I'd imagine if you're them, you're thinking everyone's GonNa follow us no one's playing football this year. That's not what happened of course. So what what is the last few months been like for for their leaders they have been under public pressure and political pressure there have been parents and players speaking out. Overpaid for you and your family, the warrant. Side. Have Been Governors and legislators piling on I call the commissioner couple of weeks ago, and we started really putting a lot of pressure on frankly because there was no reason for not to come back and it's come at them from every single angle Michigan coach Jim, harbaugh releasing a lengthy statement outlining how he believes the safety protocols his school has set up are working. To make these decisions based on that medical information I told you about because if you look at the president's that Michigan Michigan State, you're talking about an EPA epidemiologist and infectious disease expert. So their careers are based on determining this information they had to be convinced by the science and it was buttoned up to recommend that the PAC twelve also get going because there's no reason why PAC twelve shouldn't be playing now, and by the way it occurs to me big ten of all the conferences swing state country. This is not the west coast there's not the south I mean these are places that really matter to like a president trump or Joe? Biden when they're talking about what happens. What happens to an actual player? Though if a player thought, he wasn't gonNA play this year because the school was canceling football and he I don't know wants to transfer or even says I'm GonNa go pro does he get to come back? Would he do sure and that's one of the really interesting things.

"Can cost millions of dollars to go through that process and a lifetime start thinking about the issues of Howard's insurance going to pay for this. HOW ARE WE GONNA? Handle this. How are we going to continue to mount military? And where are the places? This is GonNa fact. Can you explain to me why the CDC refuses to call this epidemic? My only guests and it's just a gas. Is that once? They admit it's an epidemic than they have to do something about it. They have to look at other factors in terms of causality which they've been totally unwilling to do. in fact, there's there's been a number of ways that the CDC systematically tries. To, to lower the rates that are less obvious for example, how they funded de-fund sites, so in two thousand and six, the C. D. C. D. funded all the sites with the highest besides with the top rates so there once you defend defendable side. She take those sites out. It lowers the the rates for the next year or the next study year, so so they. They really don't want to be forthright about what's happening to our children, because that have to admit some environmental polity. It's amazing mark, because obviously you. And I met because I was involved with the Film Act, which it's touched on the whistle blower inside the CDC Dr William Thomson, and he describes how the CDC goes out of its way to start kicking kids off the study manipulating the data in order to sort of get rid of this autism effect Judy just described seems. Seems like a four bigger issue. We're not just talking about a study now. We're talking about a systematic review nationally looking at surveillance sites that are supposed to be giving us information and she's telling us now that they're looking at the sites that are numbers are hires than others, and they're manipulating the numbers by by defunding the sites that are showing higher rates. I mean. Obviously a well educated university graduate that has been dealing with numbers your whole life. Is this anything short of criminal? What is happening here? And why? How were they getting away with it? Boy I have been yelling I. Don't Yell. I don't like the L. been trying to raise the alarm about just the issues that judy has described in the CDC's management of both the data and the message and she's right on target. You know Utah New Jersey were up there high, and then they got defended. I think new Jer- New Jersey put up a stink and came back in, and but in Utah. They'd just fired judy come in A. Because it! The issues came up in Utah. They out Utah funded to. But they they put in low prevalence dates. They There's a whole set of very complicated things. And when you get into statistics, it's often that's where people's eyes glaze over. They don't want to understand samples, and you know screening methods and the portfolio of sites in all of these things. Journalists who never took a math course in their life task. Force in their life are the last people to actually say Oh, I think you actually made an error in your calculation or your study design. It's it's where. The curiosity stops if it's if it bleeds, it leads there all sorts of things that make sexy you know. Television, but the details of study designs arts. Display the mark because I mean I disagree with that because I come from media and this autism things scares every single parent there is. It's terrifying and injustice. I believe when I got involved with the William Top story. This would be the biggest story there is. If it bleeds, it reads there is no bigger blood issue, then the idea that when I think. Think of one in twenty a potential. I have a son when I think about that is the risk factor, and I think about the is putting out twenty cupcakes as some people would put, and one of these cupcakes is going into deliver autism in some way whatever the cause may be and I find out that they're hiding the facts behind that one cupcake. That is one in twenty i. mean that to me. Any NEWS REPORTER ON MSNBC ON CNN New York Times. That paper is jumping off the shelves, but you and I both know that no one is telling that story, not because it's fascinating to the world, but because Pharma is deeply invested in funding media and the sources that would be giving us the truth I mean. Do you see it any other way? I. Concede the point. I think you're right I I. I wonder sometimes why world just can't look at the logic. It's very simple, and it's not as simple as you like it to be. The the Bill Thompson Story. VACs was a lot more straightforward, and and you have bill on camera, or you know on tape. Saying, you know I feel badly about what I did and I feel bad, so it's an emotional argument. This is. Similarly emotional, but it's a little trickier. They can hide behind numbers, and whether sites in or out or what you know, what trend is in what? You know what part of the network, but yes, of course it's lying. It's lying with numbers. I wrote one article there's lies damned lies that the old Mark Twain quote, you know there's lies Dan lives and CDC autism statistics. Added a little bit. The they're lying with data and they're doing it. I don't know why they're doing I I wish I knew I think no one in CDC gets promoted by declaring autism a national public health concern You anybody who tries to say that you know. And Ori- opens the door to that gets punished because there is an Orthodox view that it's all the jeans and if you don't. Sign up for that in and and just say Oh, well, we're. We must be doing a better job. Finding the case is another not. This is the same method year after year after year. They do it the same way and the numbers just keep going up. It's not because they're doing a better job is because they're more. Judy I think the million dollar question is this. This is the question I get asked all the time. Are Doctors. Evil are scientists evil. Our reporters evil when we talk about this manipulation of this story, and you know I wanna ask you this question, because it's so rare that we get you know it seems like every few years we get one whistle blower that will come forward and start sharing new evidence, and we see this assault upon their credibility You're inside the system. Are you all alone in there or there? There are a lot of good scientists that are seeing the same thing that you are. That are just afraid of the system, or is the orthodoxy so strong that they just wear blinders into everything they do, and they don't see it as lying you know. Can you give me a glimpse inside of you know the scientific world around autism? Why are so few people like you stepping out and showing US these anomalies? It's about money. I think that you if you need a livelihood and you want to keep your career, you cannot take on issues that are.

The slowest growing demographic with a fourteen percent increase year remain the most impacted group with twenty seven point three cases per one. Hundred Thousand There you have it. I mean I think the point though James. You keep arguing at the CDC idea to what we're doing here on the high wire. What's IT GONNA take? I mean what's IT GONNA take? It's not like our kids are just like shining glowing examples of health here in America. You know they keep pushing this vaccine program and our kids are getting sicker and sicker and sicker and by the way are elderly now are getting Alzheimer's earlier and earlier and earlier and starting to die earlier and earlier and earlier. I can't tell you how many times they hear from. Somebody said my grandma and got a flu shot and died three days later or pneumococcal vaccine. I mean it really. You gotta be asking Yourself James and you have clients coming in all we'd just armies. I mean we we toast. They're just too many stupid people that these headlines that it's not bothering anybody. This rise. From twelve point eight percent. Chronic illness mostly autoimmune disease to now fifty four percent by the way. I think that numbers will only I think that number comes from like two thousand? I mean it says two thousand eleven but the truth is I don't think that study ended in two thousand seven. We've no idea where we're we're probably somewhere near like sixty five seventy percent autoimmune disease. Yes you if you're out there saying Oh. My Kid has asthma. But that's normal. "We Really WANNA PREPARED TO MERICAN PUBLIC FOR. The possibility after lies would be disrupted because of almost feels like the CDC's telling bosses like at some point. One of your employees is going to get this. It's just a fact and then the question is just. The flu doesn't mean it's going to wipe out the floor anything but somebody will come up to you. And say hey. What's the plan? Can I work from home? And if you don't have a plan right then that's when the panic starts so just as far as the spread what we're seeing now. Dr Ashton what happens neck? I mean how does this play out? No well I think in order to answer that question Brad. It's really important to understand the significance of what's going on in other parts of the world. It's really easy for us here in the US to just think about our own city our own state our own country Iran meanwhile has the highest number of corona virus deaths outside China in Italy. The number of reported cases here at over two hundred clear. We do need to care what's going on in other parts of the world. I'm GonNa tell you an interesting story about why. In October of last year the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health went through their fourth. Global Pandemic Preparedness Drill. They choose a mock pathogen and they go through an international exercise that largely is economic and financial. But of course part of it is medical game for diseases exactly and they happen to choose for this. Mock drill a corona virus there corona virus originated in South America and pigs again this was mock and fictitious and they went through a a simulation and an analysis of how the world responded their overall findings. Brad were that no country is fully prepared to deal with or respond to an epidemic or pandemic the overall international preparedness is week. Okay and then. Here's some numbers that got my attention. Eighty five percent of countries had no evidence of having practiced a biological threat focus simulation exercise in the past year. Seventy seven percent of countries were incapable of collecting real time lab data. And I want you to think of that number when you hear the daily tally of reported right. That's why I've been saying from the get go and many people have been saying. Take those numbers with a chunk of salt like so many countries. Just don't know what the real numbers I don't know. How do you stop the spread of this virus? I don't know we don't know how many people are infected. How many people are being tested? Iranians worried that authorities could be underestimating scale of the outbreak. How many mobile phone subscribers as a country have it's hard to disseminate important and critical public health information to people if you can't reach them And I think we need to remember that. Not every country has the same infrastructure that we have here and that's important when you're dealing with a global health crisis like this the good news this glass half full type of person the US scored at the top number one in terms of its overall preparedness albeit. Still kind of on the average side in terms of its overall score so when government health officials. Here say. Prepare yourself you know. They're not saying that to incite panic. They're saying that based on the facts of what's going on elsewhere in the world and again in medicine and science we have to base our actions on evidence and not emotion and almost at that point president trump and his team of really tried to preach com. They have downplayed this but the CDC also seem to say the president was overstepping when he said that corona virus will be unchecked by the spring experts. Say sorry we just don't know that at all and you're already seeing lawmakers. Democrats and Republicans Hammer the administration on whether it's actually ready for how big this could get Dr Jennifer Ashton. Thanks so much thanks Brad..

"The CDC and seven twenty WGN remembers the life and legacy of male part the drummer from rush considered the greatest drummer of all time is rock and roll drummer of all times I should say obviously there was terms before and you're gonna hear about this in an interview that we did about two hours ago with Max Weinberg also good to run the race drivers of his generation obviously Bruce Springsteen's drummer as well as the current obrien show and we started by asking Max what was Neil Peart's greatest contribution calculable incredible contributions that mail made everybody knows that like strumming likes rush likes progressive music and there are so many male courage stories that illustrate that I knew him in passing legally Fleischer was working with them on a project that I don't think my my track ever came out was called burning for buddy was a tribute to Buddy Rich and you know buddy rich with everybody idolize but he has and Neil of course was very not only local about his love for body it but he's drumming he wrote about it he talked about it all the time we produce this record with buddies daughter Cassie I think it was in nineteen ninety four and you got all the drummers together and everybody did a on the same as bye buddy rich so he was as you know the mail was a writer or a lyricist mazing drummer he always seemed to me from afar to act on his passions and that's pretty evident incredible renaissance type talented guy personal level I I I I can tell you as having I have a couple of the encounters with them where you just could have not been nicer he I had a very gentle warm sort of last year when you when you need him of course we were in the studio for an afternoon that that day in nineteen ninety four but I can tell you in my my son Jerry who plays drums further with Slipknot I was a teenager I say graciously offered an opening spot on a rush show up in that Boston I think it was for jade is high school band that they were progressive you know trading kind of band and you know the guys piled into a Sam Hey drove up to Boston and there was a huge huge deal eight to do would be to open for rush where you know the audience is so keyed into incredible musicianship and you know from all three of the guys and so that was a it was a great set as a father that was this fantastic thing to do yeah of course Sir what a tragedy and a slice of the and the child he lost his wife to cancer he we're talking to you we're talking to Max Weinberg the greater one the greatest drummers in rock and roll history of course from the east three band Bruce Springsteen and and also current Brian show for many years and it Neil part the drummer from rush passed away today if you're a rock and roll fan you know his work you know he's one of the greatest of all times and I just I you know you you mention this there's there's a little bit of a fraternity there I know the bands can be competitive with each other I I leave guys can certainly be competitive with each other but you know I think there's something about the rhythm section the whole feel there it's almost a sense of camaraderie with each other you know as well as with their band because it is and it does look a lot of great artists you know you have respect for each other right absolutely a needle like every drummer I've ever known in my life from the time I was a young man we all wanted to be Buddy Rich and when I say than a buddy rich you've got all the other drummers whoever played to real monstrously talented people through the weather jazz rhythm blues rock you name it and then there's a separate section so bloody rich and Neil and I certainly sure that we are one of my phone number is and that's session we did burning for buddy where on that album which came out the real Steve Gadd and great this and that and just you know somebody well known practitioners of drumming he was talking about Buddy Rich and are common our common love for but right so you know the the competition I think is more this is Anne and I haven't really noticed that that kind of thing myself but it's just to be better a better a better deal certainly grew and grew and grew and is so many great stories you know this terrific you know one of musicians favorite things is to tell each other musicians quelques and one of the greatest musicians jokes that's constantly repeated all the time and has been out of the twenty thirty years was that how many drummers us to take to screw in a light bulb and the answer is one to screw in the bulb for how much better Neil per would have done it so that is all that needle was held and throughout the nexus of German well but the music world and you know I've heard things is that you know he was gonna play anymore this is that I really didn't know what was going on I saw a flash on the TV screen in front of me on a table the show just to me in a one forty five minutes an hour ago yeah so it's against to the his family his friends and that it was not at all not not surprising but a terrible shock terrible was he was very young and you certainly made his mark only contrast his drum set to my you know little for peace terms said that I use that's what I use for the music I play and Neil you know you need a tractor trailer truck right now you all his round the famous slogan rotate around yeah Max Weinberg Max Weinberg of from the eastern band of course one of the great drummers in rock and roll history commenting on the passing of Neil part the greatest drummer in rock and roll history so thank you so much Max really appreciate you spending time with us well it's a sad occasion but it's always good to talk to your route eleven year old he's a listen a place that's rich but not money.

"She did tweet that there were no the cdc has not banned any words so again no words were banned they were suggested that they do not use them if they wanted to get their research funded which is as good as i mean that's a it's a booth before i mean it's sort of like that lie were they say oh you'll always have access to health care you just won't be able to pay for it right but it is access because there is like a doctor in your city so that counts as access even though there is no way you can ever afford it it's like that lie drought it it's the same kind of thing and they did offer alternative phrasing in certain cases one of the officials who was present at the meeting said that they said instead of evidencebased or sciencebased you could say cdc bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes okay okay okay if you are doing i'm justin i'm a layman if we're doing any kind of discussion science and at some point in any contacts someone's like cair we work wishes ebb and i think everyone in the room should just scream like scream screams cream rollout until the meeting is over the only thing you could do like wish i mean i know that they're not magical wishes they're target about but could we not kuwaiti not bring wishes it deal and i mean this is this is ridiculous obviously from a truth in science standpoint but also i wish that bacon was better for you.

"Because we have no evidence this i've got evidence for that is the nature of science is to find the truth and then hopefully be able to share with that is if you can no longer say that something is evidencebased there is no truth there is no untruth there is is all to your it's almost like a mist of uncertainty it's almost like it's a systemic attempt to dismantle the idea of truth and make it a malleable thing people have used the word or well in a lot in the last year yeah i i think sometimes it's a bit of an overstatement i think that perhaps it may apply here now of course i i would be remiss if i didn't say the hhs and the cdc has said that this is a mischaracterization this is not with meeting was about the washington post got it wrong she reported by the washington post by the way there's been picked up by every organization since and but um but they've said that no one directly told them that these words were banned nobody said these words were banned which should probably true i don't think anybody walked in there have been said here you're banned words don't say these words that would be i mean especially made a list of them then you just published that and that's a big that's a big scandal uh the it so they said it's mischaracterization the director of the cdc brenda fitzgerald which by the way that is a position that is appointed by the president and is not subject to congressional approval got it this throw that out there stated that as part of our commitment to provide for the common defence of the country against health threat science is and will remain the foundation of our work cdc has a longstanding history of making public health and budget decisions that are based on the best available science and data and for the benefit of all people and we will continue to do so that in no way refutes any of the story right other than she did come out later in tweet carr's twitter is how we communicate important public policy now.

"Well yeah i mean they did the did they did change it from the original now it's the centers for disease control and preventative cleanable as yes yes exactly i gotcha i thought you met recently no no yes so no say they control disease and they added the prevention because that that really is in a in a lot of cases what they're trying to do is not just i mean when you talk about something like vaccines there's the disease control element because if one sick person enters a herd of vaccinated people they're not all going to get sick sets control of the disease but it's also prevention of disease dry at which is why the cdc does do research and create policy statements on things that are not infectious disease i think that's a i've seen the argument a lot in the wake of this recent kind of scandal controversy so to speak is that why does the cdc even need to talk about certain things those aren't infectious diseases and that's a misunderstanding of what the cdc does they are involved in injury environmental health health statistics occupational health all of those things now fall under the blanket of the cdc so and the the cdc in case you didn't rise answers directly to the department of health and human services like a branch of hhs um and also i thought this was kind of weird the land that the cdc is on is going to be officially annexed by the city of atlanta on january first it's not actually in atlanta oh it is right there related right there but it's not too it's in the county i guess but it's going to be part of the city in a couple of weeks were put it the bergische i guess i'm sure that there are financial reasons i don't really understand that kind of thing anyway police and fire me now that's really interests i think the history of the cdc is really cool uninteresting but what everybody wants to hear about is the controversy today all right let's go i'm going to tell you about that the first we're going to go to the billing department got me again all right let's go.

"Oh it's title has changed a little bit overthrow now full it's all a variation of cdc though it's always been cdc even as the even as the other words the see words change some time diseases pretty pretty stiff like it's always there yet stanford so on july 1st nineteen 46 the cdc was founded and this was on the sixth floor of the volunteer building on peace peachtree street in atlanta georgia and they also had a satellite campus in chamblee georgia so it was just this one floor of this building was the cdc took place we save in land was on peachtree street was an i think there's sounds from i think it's a big story i also think there might be more than one pitched peachtree street a all zach refusing to like a big viewing for euro maybe i think f i feel like that's a common anyway i think it's also a really big street all right so the initial director was a joseph walter mountain md he was a long time member of the united states preventive public health service so he was he was a really good guy let me say that to begin with his job was to it were go wherever he was sent to take care of people and he was one of the early believers in like universal health care and health equity in taking care of people who can take care of years ago so good guy and and like i said the initial cdc was just this one flare floor of this building and atlanta was chosen for this to house this new organization this new government agency per couple reason one the mcb i was already there joker so so they might be a good place to just let's just take that floor and we've already got all the posters with pictures of germs.

"Seven banned words that the cdc was told not to use any one um which i use the term banned because that is the term that is appearing widely in the media there's a lot more to it obviously obvious so we'll get into that all right justin are you familiar with the cdc yes uh vaguely um i i am familiar with it obviously because i'm a doctor but also i really wanted to work there for very long time you since i was like 12 diseases were one of the areas that you were sort of interested in first hundred hudson exactly i was fascinated by the cdc i used to wanna do infectious disease before i became enchanted by family medicine and and so it was always kind of this magical mythical place to me where traffic every little girl will dreams of the magic of the cdc i did i did and i always i always thought some dale enter that amazing building in atlanta and i will work with these brilliant scientists to find disease across the globe moore's down there we should gun mm gone over there i don't know the villa did they do towers that is a they prided generous there's probably other norwich like yourself that is a fact i did not uncover in my research whether or not they do tours but if they did i would take that tour so the cdc actually the story of the cdc dates back to nineteen forty to the us military had a big problem and that was malaria other big problems in nineteen fortytwo i think you could say yeah but the one we're gonna talk about as malaria.
