Two thousand twenty just before the country shut down it was probably the last scuba diving show before cove. It wasn't possible to conduct the clinic in march. That fish dot com was created by a guy named jake easterling and he is the co founder of a company called scuba. School botox mission is to reduce the cost and time requirements to monitor coral reefs by using artificial intelligence autonomous underwater vehicles and citizen science. I guess and of course this work. Jake developed a database of fish and came up with the idea of taking people's underwater video footage and identifying fish in the video. If you go to the name net fish dot com website you can view short video on what the finished product looks like. Jake also has assured Tutorial on how to make a submission the site says it will accept dot m. p. four emo v dot j. peg in png files. Max file. Size is one hundred megabytes and must be at least seven hundred. Twenty p or higher processing time is one to five days the more fish more processing the rare species. The longer it takes to verify and if your quality isn't that good don't be don't need more time to process. There's a little bit of disconnect on pricing. Jake says into in his short tutorial that you can set any price you think is best but there's also a button that says it costs three ninety nine in any event. Why don't you just go out and take a look at name. That fish dot com. I recently hadn't really interesting email. Come across my desk a few days ago and it was from reef divers. If you're not familiar with reef divers they operate with the clearly came in resorts. Cobol coast on grand came and the little cayman beach resort and the beach resort. They're known for their valet diving. Well reef divers is expanding our operation in the caribbean to turks. Keiko's now they are partnering with east bay resort on south. Keiko's it looks like they plan to be up and running there by late. August east bay resort sits on a mile long beach and boasted. Every room has a beach view. To get south goes she'll need to fly into providence jalis and then you can take either a short air hop over or board the ferry. It's not that long of a ride resort officer an all inclusive option. That seems pretty good reef divers outstanding operator in the caymans so sure that you can look forward to superior valet service from nemo turkson. Keiko's as well so many places to go diving. What it dilemma. Just about every week. Get an update from michael light. Any contains various tips and tricks for better underwater photography plus they also provide some product updates but also in this email is some other interesting information last week. They introduced me to an organization called washed ashore and the articles title said using discarded plastic to save the ocean. Now washed ashore. It is a five. Oh one three or c three nonprofit arts and environmental education organization aimed at bringing to light the world's plastic pollution problem. Well how well washed ashore started by angela ponzi who is a lifelong lover of the ocean and after the death. Her husband from a brain tumor. She turned to the ocean for healing. What she also found was that the ocean needed healing as well so she turned her artistic talents into creating sculptures. That are marine-related using the plastic. That is washed up ashore and they do some spectacular sculptures. I was also amazed by the fact that they have over fourteen thousand volunteers. Working with washed ashore. These are not small sculptures. Either you can check them out at washed ashore and take a look at some of their work. You will be amazed well. I'm sure that we've all heard about the billionaires who are competing to go into space amazing stuff for someone who grew up at the start of the space race in the nineteen sixties. But there's also another race going on and that's the race to build the world's deepest pool at the top of the list. Right now is deep dive. Dubai located in nod al sheba. Which is fifteen minutes from downtown dubai. It's an amazing sixty meters deep. That's one hundred ninety seven feet and contains fourteen million liters of water or three point. Seven million gallons. The pools constant thirty degrees celsius or eighty six degrees fahrenheit. It is team doesn't abandon sunken city. Now that's pretty cool. They have an onsite hyperbaric chamber restaurant gift shop and dive shop. Put this in perspective. The other deep pools around the globe include. Why forty in italy at forty two point one five meters deep spot in poland at forty five point four meters and there's either one coming online or it's online and crom cornwall england. That's called blue vis at fifty meters deep. I wonder if there's some kinda limit on just how deep can build a pool. I'm sure we'll be amazed and finally today. Here's another message in a bottle story. this time. It comes from michigan. It seems that jennifer dour the owner and operator of nautical north family adventures of scuba snorkeling. Glass bottom boat company was cleaning a windows on her glass bottom boat in the cheboygan river when she spotted the bottle inside. The bottle was a message from ninety. Five years ago it read will the person who finds a bottle return his paper to. George morrow cheboygan michigan until where it was found. The message was dated november. Nineteen twenty six. Jennifer posted this on social media and george morrow daughter michelle who's now under seventies reached out michelle indicated that her father was probably eighteen years old when he put the message out. There sounds like the battle didn't travel very far. However now i wonder just. How many messages in bottles are out there. Well that's it for this edition of wet notes here on

"This is wet notes. Scuba shack radio's news and information update for sunday. June sixth two thousand and twenty. One first up. I like give you a quick update from stewart. Coves dive bahamas stewart. Coves has moved to new location. In coral harbour. Coral harbour used to be home of dive dive dive in nassau scuba center. Both are now gone. Stewart just moved to this new property in the last month and he has bought and he has big plans for the place right now. The main building is under significant renovation. So he has constructed some temporary structures to accommodate divers while things progress. I had a nice chat with stuart on his plans to build out the facility. And make it a great place to do your diving. When in nassau we are really looking forward to seeing how everything evolves move when we get back there next year. Good luck. Stewart as you begin this new phase. I'm sure you will make it a world class diving operation in the may two thousand and twenty one edition of the divers alert network. Safety stop newsletter. They introduced the return of the dan tags. So what are they will. The dan tags are small round crafted aluminum tag. That can easily attach to your. Bcd you tag will be laser engraved with important emergency information. That will help in the event that something happens. The dan tag will include your name date of birth. Your dan membership number any specific medical information. You'd like to disclose like allergies or other medical conditions plus contact. They're pretty attractive. Bright red and are easy to order from the dan website. The cost of the dan tag is twenty dollars. Check them out at divers alert network dot org and go to their online store in personalized. Your tag a couple years ago magazine. Podcast did a series on ballast and it was hosted by allen. Kelsey well ellen is back with a new five part series called the sound aquatic the ocean and the antra pause the first episode debuted on may twenty fifth and will run each week through june twenty-first. This series is about the sound scrapes that scientists are recording the surprising ways that animals talking. Listen and how the cove nineteen pandemic triggered a quietness in the ocean that is renewing commitments to lower ocean noise. The podcasts are quick moving and entertaining. You can find them at hawkeye magazine dot com or on any of your favorite podcast apps. Oh and if you wanna know what andro pause means. The term refers to a global reduction in modern human activity and it was coined by researchers in june. Two thousand twenty article in nature ecology and evolution. Guess she learn something new every day now. Here's some discouraging news out of grand cayman and it doesn't have to do with the covid nineteen pandemic but rather about another disease outbreak among coral the stony coral disease or sc td. According to an article in the came encompass an isolated area containing disease was spotted at life off a smith cove. And that's along the south west coast and that's not good. The came in department of environment also reported infected sites amal along grand cayman's east coast the now suspects that divers and boat operators be spreading it although scientists are still not exactly sure how stony coral tissue disease spreads. If you look at the outbreak map you get the feeling that it could be divers or boat. Operators there are new disinfecting guidelines for local divers. Not sure how these will translate to us when the caymans open back up again as if we didn't have enough to contend with with covid nineteen now it stony coral tissue disease and our dive gear every day. Now we're learning about more destinations for diving opening up around the world. One of these locations is bon air. There was an article on dive. News wire from the bon air tourism department. That indicated that. Us flights will resume. On june fifth and the country is launching an island-wide health initiative american and delta will be resuming their wednesday and saturday flights from miami and atlanta. Unlike the bahamas of it appears that you'll still need an antigen or pcr tests even if you are vaccinated before entry and of course for returning to the united states. It sounds like you might be able to get these tests at the airport or at three other facilities on the island so even though bonaire will open. Be sure you're properly prepared. Hopefully in the near future you'll be able to travel without restrictions if you're fully vaccinated and finally here on wet notes. I just saw that. Bob ballard has a new book out and it's titled into the deep and memoir from the man who found titanic a couple of years ago. We met doctor ballard at the sixty fifth boston. Sea rovers clinic and his presentation was fascinating. Some sure the book will be equally fascinating. There was an article on cnn where they interviewed bob allard. And according to this article the book delves into some of the most defining moments of his personal life including the tragic death of his son. Ballard turned seventy nine in june and he said that depend pandemic. He had a lot of times on his hands. "This is wet notes for april twenty third. Two thousand twenty one here on scuba shack radio. I up just after i recorded. The last episode president biden released his two thousand and twenty two budget. Well if you're a fan of the national oceanic and atmospheric administration or noah. You'll be happy in the budget. Proposal released on april ninth. The president proposed a record budget of six point. Nine billion dollars for knowing now. How does that compare well. This year knows budget is four point. Six billion wow. that's big increase. This budget really supports taking action. On climate change protecting marine mammals the ocean great lakes and coastal communities. If you recall the previous administration has proposed cutting knows budget only to have it restored by congress. Now this is just a first step in the budget proposal. It has a long way to go to get congressional approval. But i think it's a very good first step now. Here's something that's really interesting. I read this in the cayman compass online. It's about a grand cayman. Northside family found a message in a bottle. Yeah on easter. i think it was. The family was out walking on a remote part of the island. A place called the parrot sanctuary. I think this is on the east end. Well that's where patricia dacosta her family recovered an emerald colored bottle with a handwritten message inside the note said thrown into the ocean on six december. Two thousand and seventeen somewhere between the bahamas and florida. If you find this drop us a line and let us know where it ended up. Signed by darren and shannon from evansville illinois and it gave them their email address so patricia them with the news and now darrin shannon are planning to visit grand cayman at some point as for the bottle. The dacosta family's planning to put their own note in the same bottle and send it back out to see what an incredible journey. It's here the second quarter edition of the journal of diving history magazine. It arrived in the mail just after the last show. This latest additions cover story was written by chris. Cole and it is about the divers who worked on the edgewater disaster. It was one of the worst maritime disasters in us history. I'll leave it at that and you can do some of your own research but it was a really interesting article. There's also an interview in the edition. Done by michael newdow with dick rakowski and he's dubbed. The father of nighthawks again. Some really interesting stuff. I highly recommend that you take a look at the historical diving. Society's website if you become a member you'll get the journal mail to you every quarter a pleasant surprise in your mailbox. I received an email from a friend a few weeks ago with the subject line serenity so who can't use a little serenity how about serenity now well it turns out that my friend was asked by our son to watch him cameras for a school project. These live cams were from the monterey bay aquarium so i went to the link and it took me to their landing page for nine different cameras. I'm not going to list them all right now. But you can peek. In on their penguins. Sea otters were moon jellies. There's even a camera for monterey bay itself personally. I like to observe my sealife while diving but these live cams from monterey bay aquarium can fill in and provide that little bit of serenity. Now here's something interesting. That came in from shearwater. You know the makers of the dive computers. They have a contest. It's going to be starting up. In may called the spring shopping spree and the winner will get four thousand nine hundred ninety nine dollars shopping spree at the dive shop of their choice. And here's how it works if you purchase the shearwater in april or if you buy one in may you can register for the contest with their online portal with a proof of purchase. But you don't have to buy a computer to participate. You also be able to register by completing a short fifty word essay on why you like shearwater computers. The lucky winner will be selected at the end of may. And it's another great way to support your local dive shot. Thanks your water for doing this. And finally there was a short article from patty on april twentieth about their meeting with the maldivian government to confirm the protection for sharks. There was some speculation out there that the maldivian government might be lifting the shark fishing ban in their countries waters. Well this can't be good over ten years ago. Patty along with others helped to establish this current protection so the patty staff met with the moldavian ministry of fisheries marine reserves and agriculture's lead zaha wahid. Well here's some good news here at the meeting minister while he said that they were committed to sustainable and responsible management on april twentieth the ministry released a statement that said the maldives does not intend to permit a targeted shark. Fishing in the mouth. These great job. Patty in great job maldives for protecting these critical apex predators. Well that's it for wet notes. For

The shop passed on a new york times article about looking for climate solutions and this article was written by catrine einhorn. Essentially she reported that ocean bottom trawling for shrimp whiting. Cod and other fish emits as much carbon dioxide into the air as the entire globalization industry. Now this was based on a study published in the journal. Nature and it was pretty enlightening. About how trawling releases. Immense amounts of carbon from the ocean floor and that leads to more acidification of the water and that reduces the oceans capacity to absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide. You can check out the entire article on the new york times website look for climate solutions by katrina einhorn. There's another piece of good news. Out of molly s this month. The honolulu star advertiser reported that a trained response team was able to free young. Humpback whale from gear entangling. It's left pictorial flipper. They were able to free about fifty to one hundred feet of line from the flipper but not we're able to get the Entangled line out of its mouth. They are hoping that that will ultimately free itself. They haven't seen the whale since it was freed. Apparently it wasn't in great shape but at least now it has a chance. They recovered gears being analyzed to see if they can determine the origin now. The efforts were led by the hawaiian humpback whale national marine sanctuary in partnership with cardinal point captains k key koala project and ultimate whale-watch. Now i've had the opportunity to go out with ultimate whale-watch from lana. A couple of times was very happy to hear of their support. We carry a lot of aqualung equipment in our shop and like most businesses twenty twenty taught many of us a lot of lessons. Well i recently sent out a message that they are introducing. A new aqualung is a bit of a rebranding. They're using a new tagline beyond the expected in the message. They said the twenty twenty taught them to expect the unexpected time to seek out the unexpected. If you check out the aqua lung website they further state that they are for the ocean exploration for ocean understanding and for ocean conservation. The aqua lung site also has a really inspiring short two minute video to get you inspired. Stay tuned for more from akwa. Long as they go beyond the expected earlier in the week. I got an email from nicole. Russell dima vice president of operations and i e mail had a lot of different information but one of the items that stood out said las vegas is open for business that means they are in fact planning to hold the demon. Show two thousand twenty one in las vegas in person and not some very exciting news. There was a learn more link in the email that took you to the dive equipment and marketing association's website where they gave you a list of all the trade shows conventions and meetings scheduled in las vegas of over five thousand or more attendees in the next twelve months. Now that was an interesting list. F why the marijuana business daily or m j biz con two thousand twenty. One is expected to draw thirty thousand people. And it's just one month before dima for all you dive pros out there. Mark your calendar for demon show two thousand twenty one november sixteenth to nineteenth in las vegas. Nevada can't wait to get back to dima and finally earth day two thousand twenty one is less than a month away earth day is actually april twenty second however it looks like this year. They are promoting three days of climate action. It starts on april twentieth. There are three lead organizations working on this educational international or education international the hip hop caucus and earth uprising will will be organizing three separate parallel climate action summits on april twentieth and twenty first ahead of president biden's global leaders climate summit on april twenty. "Yeah waiting room. Yeah i mean. Definitely there. And i don't know why he may never leave. He may be you know like roman polanski but just not acting or maybe a couple years. He'll be like woody allen where only the movies are in europe. Yeah yeah. I think he's just going to wait it out and get tan. Listen the what all i know about this case is there's a lot that wasn't said vanity fair. There's still a lot to uncover. And i think it's going to be like one of these things that continues to unravel so yeah we'll see you know with the whole thing that happened in the joshua tree. That's been pretty much silent for a while. but i. i don't know there could be more there. Okay let's move on so you did great talks on the meghan markle. I know sometimes people are like getting tired of it. But here's some latest. That's happening okay. buckingham palace is to just this morning. Reportedly hires a law firm to investigate bullying allegations against duchess megan. I mean there has been some kind of funny stuff like who said it like i. I want this. I want to move on. I watched two hours of these four guys on youtube body language. And what things mean at. It is of funny because one of the things clearing your throat and coughing. And then peter and i are watching alan versus farrow. And every time woody allen talk because like has he had a cold for eighty years or is this a thing but yes very. That was very interesting and who is he protecting. And what's going on. Do you have any latest on any of that. God i mean i've been following the meghan stuff for a while had a. I know what i wanna ask you about. You noticed a couple of fund things that the blog. Megan markle had this blog. Inner before doing suits. Yeah i know when blogs were what a podcast is today or talk like you know people really like got down and wrote shit and she had a very popular one. Yeah and she. What did she write about. Kate middleton back then before she had ever dated harry so she obviously you know. Kate middleton when that wedding was happening. We were all talking about it So she interviewed a libyan princess and she was like listen. You that so. It was like a princess from like the country of libya libya. Okay sorry to hear So anyway you know she just hide in the. Kate middleton stuff of it all so she sang. i wanted to be like wa princess of power. You know hemans like counterpart and it's like an eighty s cartoon referendum for but then. She's like you know everyone. Women have this internalized fantasy of becoming like a royal when they're adults and s. You know so. Many people want to be like princess. Kate like i wouldn't be she's essentially saying yeah that's not the kind of princess she'd wanna be Which she is doing a great job of nothing that princess. But you know i mean i think it hearkens back to the idea that like. I don't think she knew nothing about them. But i don't say that too often because people use that against her in such a vicious way that has nothing to do with the fact that like honestly like what people expect. I think what happened was just like everybody else. She was aware of. It wasn't like a total freak about like. I've got to buy every magazine article in it. Totally was she of it. Yes have we all thought about. I think i don't think she was like masturbating to harrow years or like had us aboard with secret things on it but then when the opportunity came up. Do you wanna meet harry halley app. You wouldn't and then. I think that they fell in love. But i did. She could. If i was her friend i would have been like. You should be a little more like forthcoming. Who didn't know about princess. Diana and i would say you know of course. I knew i didn't know who his last three girlfriends were. I thought maybe there was like a blonde girl. But yeah you know and then but i do believe that. She was like no. I didn't really understand what it would truly mean. Yeah to be a princess. I think she thought and get to go to fancy things. I'm going to have people. Help me get outfits. I'm not going to have to ever load a dishwasher. But i don't think she really understood you. Know how much of her life would be scrutinized. One hundred percents what. I think that that part. I think she's being honest about but anyway. There was an article out and page six. Apparently she has her. This is a rumor. She has bid for the us president. I think it's just whatever. But you know what. I wouldn't be surprised if who's to say in ten years. She isn't like running for something. Not price tenure. She's running for governor. I mean if arnold became our governor and if trump became president. Who's to say that. Megan markle won't have some type of political aspirations support. I feel like she has the diplomatic gene. She's hanging out with michelle obama scenes. I vote for her. You know what i mean. It'd be a little ironic that you know. I think she gets back into a place where she'd be criticized every day. But you know who doesn't criticize. Her chickens purchased her okay. This this breaking news happened taught. The talk is taking a hiatus in a nutshell. What happened last week. Is that as we know pierce bronson who always say for always say this because i'm thinking of someone hotter. Okay piers morgan. As we know has been a little bitter sense. "This is wet notes on scuba shack radio for sunday march fourteenth. Two thousand and twenty one starting off today. I want to give everyone an update on dive magazine. When the pandemic eight last year it caused the magazine to suspend publication and there was a disclaimer out on our website about the magazine. Being on hiatus well. I really liked this magazine. So i went out and check their website and i did not see this disclaimer anymore. So i reached out to the editor. Catherine castle garcia to check on the status. Catherine got back to me and she indicated that they are still in a holding pattern and are aiming to start publication again in the third or fourth quarter this year in the interim catherine and her husband are working on growing their business deeply designs and they are working on a feature length wildlife film. Let's dive training magazine. Hits discreet again. This year i really enjoy that publication. Now for those of us who love going to and diving into caymans. There's hope there. It sounds like they're making good progress down in the caymans on vaccinating population and according to the premier alden mcglaughlin if the cove nineteen vaccine vaccination rates. Keep up at the space. They are thinking that they'll be able to open the borders again in either late april or early may and with the penetration of the vaccine. There won't be any need to quarantine when you're entering the islands now. This is certainly something to look forward to. You don't have to twist my arm to head down. The sunset house where little cayman beach resort in the fight against plastic pollution. Back in february the ocean cleanup which is a nonprofit that was established in two thousand thirteen with the mission of developing technologies. That will rid the world ocean of plastics signed a memorandum of understanding with thailand and that memorandum of understanding was to deploy interceptors in. Thailand's rivers now. Rivers provide the highways for plastics to enter the ocean and intercepting plastics in the river. Before it gets to the ocean is just common sense. But a complex solution the ocean cleanup interceptor program is pretty cool. And they want to expand deployments to the thousand most polluting rivers around the world. Well that's certainly some good news coming out of thailand and hopefully the rest of the world you can check them out on the ocean. Cleanup dot com last week on. Noah's ocean podcast. The show featured another noah program ocean today on this episode. Kurt man discussed what ocean today is all about. Essentially is a series of short videos. That take complex science and present them in understandable one to three minute videos they cover deep sea exploration climate change marine life and more. Where will Your Next Dive Be?

"It's time for another installment of your next dive here on scuba shack radio so far i have done eleven installments of this segment. Typically i do in new your next dive segment every third show or about every six weeks. I take a dive location or operator and talk a little bit more about the diving. The operator the boats the facilities and the food. I also like to discuss how best to get there. Well today. i thought i do a little bit. Something different maybe. That's because i'm not sure i have anymore. Cool places to talk about that. I've been to so. I'm going to imagine that we're in a post pandemic world and i could just pick some place to go diving jump on a plane and giant stride. In where would i go. where would you go well. I'm going to keep this in the context of the places. I've talked about here on your next dive in boy. Did i have a hard time trying to figure it out. But in the end if i could fly out today and go diving i would definitely had grand cayman and then head over to sunset house. There are so many other options to choose. I chose sunset house for a number of reasons. First getting down there from where i live in. Connecticut is pretty easy. And while i have to make a connection. It's no big deal and if you're lucky with the scheduled flights you might even be able to sneak in and afternoon shore dive. The the sure diving is definitely a big reason. I like sunset house. You can dive on the house reef anytime and it is outstanding house. We've you can explore for hours and find some really cool stuff boat diving takes you. Some fantastic spots and win diving is over. I love spending time at my bar for lunch or dinner. I can visualize myself right there right now. Having an iron show bach after a great day of diving boy. I gotta get there now. If i had a lot of time like say i was retired or like say later this year i would ski. Give serious consideration towards heading out to the philippines and then heading south to do magaji. Where'd stay with atlantis. Everything about the resort in a diving hits mark from me. The biodiversity is incredible. You get the reese with four hundred and fifty different species of coral and the mock where you can watch stuff closely. As as the sand comes alive it's outstanding. The rooms are very nice and spacious and the food is really good really good. The resort is right on the beach and a very relaxing environment. I would have to say that. It is one if not the best value in diving if i couldn't get into sunset house on grand cayman or have the time to make the long trek out to the philippines to other options. Come to mind. And they're a little bit different. I would consider either going to turks and caicos to dive dive provo or had two little came in and spend a week at little cayman beach. Resort going to turks and caicos on providential. He's just like flying to the bahamas pretty straightforward. But it's not as much diving as you would get on a little cayman. Typically you'll get five days of two tank boat diving but you'll have time to go to a number of really cool restaurants and there's that nice supermarket that's right across the street from where we stay. Then you get time to relax by the pool or the beach going to little cayman involves that short flight in a twin otter from grand cayman which sometimes presents a challenge but once at the resort get ready to dive in eat. You'll probably do six days of two tank morning dives with five days of one tank afternoon dies. That's totaling seventeen is a week or seventy percent more diving. Then you would get in turks and caicos and while you won't experience the different restaurants. You won't be disappointed in the food plan on adding a few pounds during the week. So this is quite a dilemma. That will face when we're able to and we're able to travel again and we feel comfortable with it. There are so many options out there. I know we're still trying to set up a memorial day trip to nassau with stuart cove and keeping our fingers crossed. We all have our favorite places to go diving our goto spots and we all have the places on our list of places we want to get to. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to diving some really cool places and love to go back to all them. That sounds like a goal. But if i had to choose my top four spots right now they would be sunset house on grand cayman atlanta's dive resorts and duma gatty dive provo on turks and caicos and little cayman beach resort out the passport. Let's get

"But i don't know the story at all is a mercer student. She has been jailed. She's in prison in the cayman islands and eighteen year. Old pre med student of mercer university was sentenced to four months in prison and the cayman islands for breaking quarantine early. I here's what you had. What she had to do to go to go to the caymans islands. She had to go to the cayman islands. She had to get tested before going. She had to get tested when she got there. And then after receiving to negative test. She was told that she has to quarantine for two weeks so she received two negative test back to back and then she was ordered to quarantine for fourteen days and she was fitted with a smart wristband and given a cell phone to track her movements and she also signed a document. I'm sure she was probably pressured into signing a document agreeing not to leave her place of isolation without permission and not to remove her span. Before i tell you the rest of the story. This is sounding eerily similar to the movie. Songbird the wrist bands and the tracking of everything. Now i'm starting to see some of that stuff. Come in if we start having yellow wristbands immunity wrist bands in. We'll we'll really see the predictive program. Well they'll have. It'll be yellow. I think that lusa ferris's yellow. Well it's radiation thing but it's depicted as yellow because it's made a firefly's so days after and she went to mercer which isn't making she's from loganville which isn't good nap. I'm from salvo which is right next to loganville two days later. She was seen at a jet skiing competition with her boyfriend. Because that's why she was there to go watch the jet skiing competition. that's why she went to the cayman islands and he's a cayman island resident. She apparently wasn't wearing her wristband. And the couple of said to have been interacting with the public at the event for more than seven hours without social distancing or wearing masks and then someone reported both her and her boyfriend to the local police and then they were transported to a mandatory quarantine that straight out of the movie songbird transported to a mandatory quarantine facility. Now the the initial sensing was she was charged with leaving her home during a mandatory quarantine period and her boyfriend was charged with aiding and abetting her and they were both given forty hours of community service and fined. Twenty six hundred dollars each however the prosecutors did not think this was enough. They decided they needed to make an example out of this girl. And they call the senate's too lenient and they and ultimately the court agreed and the two were sits to four months in prison and she was sent to the general population. She was sent to gen pop where they say that. That corona virus runs rampant. Pop of the president is like they want her to get it. If they believe in there or they they appealed it and they did lower her sentence to two months but still this is an eighteen year old girl in a foreign country being put in the gen pop of prison for giving her house or her hotel to go to an outdoor event after testing negative twice. We put oh wait. oh so..

"The to the two people but didn't really know traction really got through on and then between the three of them trump pelosi mikado basically all fucked it up. Yeah wanted it the whole time. Though to be fair because of the election he knew he would be good for him for the election. But pelosi and mcconnell between the two of them basically didn't allow it to happen and now that we've got a very small slim version this is about two hundred billion below. What the compromise. Like one point one trillion. One was supposed to be happened if you want to know they Couldn't figure it out because there are assholes and then vaccine was incite the figured. Oh we better figure this out because we're assholes and now there's gonna be a vaccine so now we always. After it was after the election they were all holding till after the election. I believe for the moment not much of a care. It's like this is a baby care. The just dangled in front of us and it looks like it's going to be the last thing that we get well. They better hosts the best work. There's anything else doesn't work. I mean they're they're really going to be up shit creek because then it's like then by us. I mean the whole country. The whole country. I mean the government. The people the whole thing though stars stripes red white and blue go on the internet andrew. Yang says i'm bigger recurring. Stimulus checks about this crisis and thereafter. Were with you there. Andrew gang. Some other person is saying eighty year old speaker. Pelosi's net worth is one hundred and forty million. Congress paid themselves full salary of one hundred and thirty k for nine months while they argued about giving every american six hundred of their own money. So people aren't happy about the six hundred bucks. But that's i mean. A lot of economists are saying well literally saying it's better than nothing. That's the consensus all you can say. Yeah so okay. Well he has went to college right because remember college. A little bit hazy members. Remember it When you're eighteen and you're in college it's totally normal to travel to the cayman islands to visit your twenty four year old boyfriend. He competes in a jet skiing competition. We've all done it. It's as common as get your first credit card but it appears that was it. Sorry can i just stop you real quick skiing competition that like barrel racing in the rodeo like how does that work i going strictly on wave runner sixty four and i think was gonna say is it just them. Playing wave or sixty four is real life waiver in our sixty four. So you're going through circles. There are circles in the water. And when you go through. They disappeared from what i bring like. A sonic the headshot exactly. Yeah then there's a points because it appears that one premed student from mercer university got a little bit more than tan in a ride on her boyfriend see do when she went down to the islands late last month. That's a four month prison sentence. She got boys. Yeah you know. What did you do well coq or what not like that. Eighteen year olds schuyler. Mack was sentenced to four months in the cayman island prison for breaking british caribbean territories covert nineteen protocol according to her grandmother. Schuyler tested negative Before she left georgia for the islands on november twenty seven again normal to do international travel as an eighteen year old college student and When she landed in the came and she was given another cova tasks which came back negative. So she's double negative but she was supposed to remain in quarantine for two weeks. That's the policy with the cayman islands. And that didn't jive with scholars plants because the big meat was in two days. It was national center boyfriend vanja. Vj robin ram geat was a favourite in the competition and there was no way she was missing. That shit. so what you got to keep tabs on your way of runner boyfriend. You know what i mean. Twenty four year old race. You gotta be right there. She doesn't let vonda go anywhere but compete nationals. He lives in the cayman islands. You gotta be there. don't quarantine honey. Yeah no don't come down so come down two weeks okay. So here's the deal. Caymans they of the smart wristbands. They're like rfid bands. And you get one when you get on the island and you have to wear it for two weeks until your You've been officially quarantine. So she wants to go to the meat. Can't go to the meet the wristbands. Here's what she does. She contacts the quarantine unit and she complains that her i m safe wristband which indicated she was supposed to be in quarantine was too tight. It's too tight. And she had government officials come to her place for she was quarantining to loosen it. Oh good use of of their time and energy. I'm sure works like a charm. Idiots scholars slip off went to the race but they take their protocols pretty seriously. There and the race attendees knew who scholar was new that she slept her band offs. They sneak onto ratted her out. Yeah no volunteer. Didn't but some of the other cats did hook sneeze honored honored to the fucking game house even though she had a negative test doesn't matter if she had negative test she's races weeks here. Cash quarantine for two weeks and she slipped through. Brace it off and broke. The quarantine was one cutthroat growing. It was a girl after von. Because he's the mvp of the wavefront race. Want her out if that was the case guys As they threw out the baby with the bathwater because cayman islands police rolled up to find her not distancing and not wearing a mask and she n. vange were immediately taken a mandatory quarantine conly in charge. No he raised and he won. He's champ but guys chip. We'll get to that. We'll get to that big big scrub for. Vj guys initially. They got forty hours of community service in twenty six hundred bucks in fines but the prosecutor the da down. Their father was too lenient so he appealed that judge's decision and the judge rethought it and ramped up the sentence and the judge was reportedly. Give her fifteen months before knocking it. Down to just four and vj was stripped of his jet ski victory and forced return the trophy. His medals and squirts. You gotta do the course backwards. It's like you never did it. He also had to write an apology letter to the came out and watercraft association and he's banned from the first couple of races. Let me guess elda on his career yet. Let me guess did the did the second place person was it. A local from the cayman islands. Believe it or not. I tried very hard to find the the actual results of the race but because this happened at the end of the race. There's just like i couldn't. I couldn't find my own news right like the guys on cooking. The guy who always gets second-place routed. Well he's a he's a he's a grand cayman guy. I get it to him and his girlfriend. Yeah so we'll see him winning every fucking race and then making out blonde girlfriend in front of everyone so they violent pride guys. They're they're they share an attorney and the attorney pled for new. No jail time saying this. Atlanta-based Delta avoids US tariffs by sending new Airbus jets on a world tour

"Yeah, they're still happening. China, Of course. Also we have put import taxes on a bunch of European goods. French wine Scotch whisky, Also Airbus airplanes. But Delta Airlines, a buyer of the aforementioned Airbus's has been reading the tariff, fine print and it has been paying off, said Philip wrote the story for Bloomberg. Welcome to the program. Thank you, Kay. So in in layman's terms here if you could. What is Delta doing with these new planes? Yes. Oh, does that's doing something really interesting with the new plans and instead of usually flying them to the U. S, as they have in the past. What they've done instead is fly these planes overseas. Essentially if the plane has any hours and flight, aside from the delivery to the U. S, and testing that would make it a use plan and no longer subject of tariffs because the tariffs only applied new planes. Very tricky. You gotta know the laws. So give me an example. They Delta plunks down. However much money. It is for a new Airbus And it takes off and flies to wear and does what Sure. So take one plane example. The A 3 21. Delta bought a plane from ever US, which was built in Hamburg. The plane flew from Hamburg to El Salvador. It stayed there for over two weeks. And then from there, it flew to the Cayman Islands and then a chance. Atlanta and, most recently, that plane's been flying between Atlanta and Montego Bay, and it has shaved the company. How much money would you guess? So based on the list prices of the aircraft it could have saved as much as 270 million, although airlines don't actually pay the list price for planes, and so the true savings could be much smaller than that, given that most airlines get massive discounts on new plane purchases, But still, Delta has decided it's worth it to go through this goat rope just to not have to pay. However many millions even single digit millions of dollars. It isn't Paris. Absolutely. I mean, the U. S. Has collected over $55 million in tariffs in the last one year or source and said Arabs came in what I hear you saying is that other airlines are not doing what Delta is doing. And they are paying that there's Yeah, that would seem like it. It would seem like those airlines are being charged with tariffs. We should be clear to. This is 100% legal, right? I mean Delta's going by the letter of the law. Absolutely. I mean, the entire strategy rests on the language that classifies the plane as you was once they've flown for any reason other than for testing and delivery. Even as clever as it might be. And as money saving, as it might be. There is some institutional inertia and some inefficiencies that Delta is dealing with here, right? Absolutely. I mean, the fact that they wouldn't really be able to import those plane directly into the US and obviously, that means you have to sort of find places for those planes. In the meantime, it does have some impact on the efficiency. But then remember that you have the covert crisis of the moment. And that sort of helps because you don't need so many plans at the moment, given the fact that there's so many plans that on the ground at the moment, and airlines are trying everything that they can to save money, so this is one sort of tool in the arsenal. Said.

"cayman" Discussed on Scuba Shack Radio

"I started the your next dive segment here on scuba Shack Radio a year ago as a way to talk about some of the great places to dive today is the 10th installment of your next dive off and we're going to complete our adventures in the Cayman Islands with a visit to Cayman BRAC where we'll stay at the Cayman BRAC Beach Resort and dive with Reef divers. As a recap we talked about the Little Cayman Beach Resort in episode 19, and then we went to Sunset house on Grand Cayman in episode 32. So let's explore the third island. My experience with the Cayman BRAC Beach Resort is a little dated. We had a shop trip their way back in October of 2006. So I'm guessing things maybe a little different job after fourteen years, but I'm also guessing a lot is probably the same. The Cayman BRAC Beach Resort is part of the clearly came and dive resorts that include Little Cayman Beach Resort and Cobalt Coast Resort on Grand Cayman off. This Collective of resorts is owned and operated by the Tibbetts family a prominent family in the Caymans since the Seventeen hundreds. First off Cayman BRAC is a little easier to get to than Little Cayman the Charles Kuykendahl International Airport located on the western end of the island package is very close to the beach resort and it has a Runway that's big enough to land 737 Jets. There are many more options to get to the Brock than the small twin otters flying the linkage came in plus the runway has lights so you don't have to worry that much about getting getting dark and that was an adventure we faced last year when going a little Cayman As I mentioned the airport is very close to the resort and you get picked up by The Resort staff for a short ride over. Now the resort has had some major Renovations since we were there several years ago. It sustained some significant damage from a hurricane. And from what I've read. It had to be almost completely built and it was finally finished in 2015. Today they offer 40 rooms. They're building is a two-story structure with all Beach and pool views with all the amenities you expect as for your meals. You have several options for different meal plans. I'm always up for the all-inclusive meals. I like not having to think about going out and finding a place to eat. That's not everybody's cup of tea. But if you do get the are inclusive me off and you won't be disappointed. Let's talk about the diving first. You'll be diving with Reef divers. It's the same operators as on Little Cayman. They tout themselves relay diving. They handle all the heavy lifting. Reef divers operates for Newton dive boats of 42 to 46 feet my favorite dive boat. They'd have big sister little sister ocean sister and coral sister. There are about in seventy named dive sites around the island and many of them are clustered around the Western end making for some short boat rides. Some folks feel like the diving isn't as good on the Brock or Grand Cayman as it is on Little Cayman for me. All three are fantastic and I would certainly not pass up an opportunity to dive Kathy Brock. Because it has been a while since I was there I went back to my log book to see where we drove. We did eighteen Dives on that trip. Now one of the things they do is a morning run off over the Little Cayman where you get to do two Dives on Bloody Bay wall. So you do get a little taste of the Little Cayman. I logged bottom temperatures for all the Dives at 86° Fahrenheit and that was in October and we routinely had dies between fifty to sixty minutes. We were able to talk to Dives on the MV Captain Keith Tibbetts the signature wreck our night dive was at a site called Elkhorn forest. And then we went back the next morning to dive the site during the day. That was pretty cool to see the difference. There isn't any shore diving from the Brock Beach Resort. But if you get the package like we did a 2018 Dodge is a pretty good week. Reading through the log book brought back some great memories and makes me want to go back. Dive Agains Debris

"Last weekend we did something new and something I found extremely rewarding. We conducted the Patty project aware dive against debris specialty course. This all came about as I was working on what the shop would be doing during project aware week this year. Since advocating for ocean health and sustainability is a key part of our mission as a dive shop. It just felt like this was a good thing to do. We couldn't get it done during project aware week because we had other stuff going on. But we got it in. The first thing I needed to do was the research on the specialty course and found out that I needed to get my designation as a dive against debris special instructor. No big deal. I downloaded all the great material from the project aware site studied it and sent my paperwork off to Patty and quickly got my rating. So I want to talk a little bit more on how we conducted the course what it was and what was involved. Like most of our training these days we leveraged our virtual classroom for knowledge development and then we headed out to the ocean a few days later to conduct our dive against debris. During the knowledge development session. We talked all about the sources of marine debris how it gets into our waterways and we all shared examples of problems with Marine debris that we've encountered. We also talked about all the efforts being made to clean up the ocean and we all agreed that a critical step that must be taken is that we have to stop putting trash in the ocean to begin with. From there, we transitioned into discussion the actual dive and how valuable it is to conduct a dive against debris survey. One of the neat things about the course is the dive against debris data card that you can use to complete and record your survey. It's a two-page form that captures all the relevant information about your survey like the location the latitude and longitude depth duration participants and more money. And then you also have a detailed check list to catalogue all the trash you find. I just want to note that you only record trash that you pull out from under water on a Surface are on the beach. It doesn't count. We closed out our virtual session by discussing how to make our survey account and that's by following the five easy steps way sort record disposed and report. We finished up the Night by reviewing the logistics for our Sunday morning dive. Well Sunday morning arrived with some spectacular New England fall weather a great day for diving at Fort Wetherill in Jamestown, Rhode Island, and we were treated to some pretty good visibility. After our dive briefing and going through our plan, we geared up and hit the water with five divers. Our survey time came in at 41 minutes and we managed to pull three pounds of trash from underwater. Of the nineteen pieces of trash we recovered three of them were surgical face masks certainly a sign of the times. Once the sorting and recording was complete we bundled all the trash for proper disposal. I gotta say we all felt really good about our dive with a purpose. And then it was very rewarding to actually record our results in to dive against debris database c r i dive against debris badge next to our one hundred percent aware of like organized aware action badges on this project aware site and then find our survey on the map. When I first started planning this course little did I realize how impactful it would be for me and I think our newly certified dive against debris divers felt the same way home driving with a purpose participating in citizen science while having fun under water is special. If you're die shop isn't doing dive against debris ask them if they might consider doing it you and they won't be disappointed time to make every dive a dive against free.

"About a year ago. I did a segment responding to an article about Sunset House in Grand Cayman. That was long before I started to your next dive feature here on Scuba Shack Radio and because sunset house is one of my all time. Favorite dive destinations. I wanted to take you there. And so this edition of your next dive. I'm going to take you to Grand Cayman where we'll dive at. Sunset House with sunset divers. My first trip to sunset house was in July two thousand sixteen and I've made three more trips in. Stay with my last one. Being in two thousand eighteen of would have gone back there last year but we went to little came in instead from the minute. I I got there. It just felt good. It seemed like everything I want it. Let's start with the diving. I thoroughly enjoy the house reef especially going in from the ocean pool and following the Channel Out to the Mermaid Statue. If you take your time going out there you'll get to see so much along the way. Just slow down you can easily get to the Nickerson wreck from the Mermaid and then get out to the beginning of the wall now for both diving. You'll get to the wall on the west side and it has some great dive sites. Some of my favorites are things like Trendy Cave and big tunnels the shallower dives on that side. Include things like Lamesa devils grotto and wreck of your verdy now. Senate house doesn't have Newton dive boats but the boats. They have are comfortable in well-maintained new Catamaran last year and you're expecting another one soon the diving in Grand Cayman doesn't disappoint now. If the weather gets a little rough on the west side they just slide around to the south side and get some more great dive sites and it's a lot calmer if you wanna do a night dive check out the house reef. You'll know where you are. That's important to me on a night dive. And you'll also enjoy the show as for the hotel and the rooms there what you would expect for a dive destination. A hotel dedicated to diving. They're clean neat well-maintained and functional for divers. They're continuing to upgrade with new furniture. And things like that while we were there. They were replacing all the furniture out on the decks for for dining. I rarely leave the hotel. You get a decent breakfast every morning in the sea harvest restaurant then you can grab lunch and dinner at my bar. My bar is the biggest outdoor bar on Grand Cayman. It has a fairly extensive menu and some good food. If you want to be a little more formal you can always have dinner in the sea harvest either inside or on our patio. They have a nice gift shop on the premises. And if you big into photography Kathy's Church photo center is right. There Sunset House is about ten minute. Walk to downtown or a quick cab ride. They also provide shuttle. We make the short walk at least once or twice during our stay. Also sunset. House is only about ten minutes from the airport. So if you get there early enough on your trip down you can even sneak in an afternoon. Shore dive right after you arrive so for me. Sunset House in Grand. Cayman is a goto place. Just talking about it makes me yearn to be there right now. Wouldn't that be nice? Maybe soon maybe your next dive can be with Sunset House in Grand Cayman.

need witnesses whether this is going to be our impeachment trial or not we need witnesses don't we well George looks like we we are likely now they have witnesses whether we need them or not and for both sides is potentially explosive I mean if the GOP begins to call hunter Biden or even Adam Schiff we could be in for two or three months of executive privilege challenges and all kinds of drama the end I don't think there's the votes to remove Donald Trump form from office and we're so close to an election if this takes two or three more months the wind out of the real cure is to vote in November well that's absolutely true they do say that the if he's acquitted he's going to be much stronger for the November election you agree I agree I think yeah I think the Democrats are really made their points and to continue this especially with keeping candidates like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders off the campaign trail is a real sacrifice for them and and ultimately the tracks in the ability the Democrats to run a strong campaign with I would think both sides would come to the conclusion of this be the end of this is going to be more in their favor and the chances for November elections which is really the opportunity to put a new president in place were right around the corner from that see also is the author of atomic around in jury I want to read this story to you and get your reaction to what president Donald Trump is presented his long awaited Middle East peace plan promising to keep Jerusalem as Israel's undivided capital he proposed an independent Palestinian from his wanting the Arab states of knowledge of the existence of Israel and I think long term that's probably the only solution to the Middle East crisis certainly in the immediate I mean we've got think a bunch of people who are apple unemployed and watch what happens when they gather employment why would the unemployed to begin with the Great Britain anyway I don't know and then they find out that they they really get some benefit from getting a job there but the benefits for you know like one to eight hours a week god not enough life is like in Great Britain I think I'd go nuts working one day a week thanks a lot Peter Dr Peter Bergen archaeology is fantastic forbidden archeology is wonderful in in a moment the forbidden archaeologists joins us Michael cream all on coast to coast AM "You're going to pay the money out to either Canada or the United States. Now, let's say that instead of working Canada you instead we're working in the Cayman Islands. So the Cayman Islands doesn't have an income tax. They don't have any kind of income taxes imposed on people who live there who work there. So now, you don't have any foreign taxes paid. Well, now, you can't take the foreign tax credit. What that means though, is you're going to pay twenty thousand dollars to the US government on your hundred thousand dollars of income assuming that you didn't qualify for the foreign earned income. Exclusion. Remember, we're just talking about the foreign tax credit here. So the tax credit really doesn't save you any money. It just keeps you from. Double paying. So if you pay taxes abroad, then you don't have to doubly pay those taxes in the US, you will pay whatever the total highest tax Bill is if you're living and working in Canada. Canadian taxes are higher you'll pay the higher amount of taxes to Canada. If you're living and working in the United in a place where the taxes are lower than the United States, you'll pay the lower taxes to the United States. So the foreign tax credit can be useful. If you're paying for and taxes, if you get the credit, you might as well use it. But what I'd love to see most people do is use that for offsetting things like their capital gains taxes at cetera and use it if you have it, but don't try to get there this way. However, you are correct. That even if you don't qualify for the foreign earned income exclusion. If you're paying for an income taxes, you can still claim those foreign income taxes, and you'll still have earned income allowing you to contribute to an IRA. But that's the expensive way. Don't do it that way take the foreigner and income exclusion, which let's go to number way. Number two, the second way you can contribute. Two IRA is if you will simply make more money than you can wipe out with the foreign earned income. Exclusion, simple example, let's say that you can earn one hundred fifteen thousand dollars, but yet you can only wipe out one hundred and five thousand dollars with the foreign earned income. Exclusion..

And of course, the president didn't get any of that money that he requested late last year for a border wall five point seven billion dollars. Now, he's following that up with this budget proposal that requests eight point six billion dollars. It is unlikely that this will actually be what congress agrees to. I mean, the budget proposals that any administration puts out at this time of year are just that their proposals. And they're almost a wishlist of administration saying these are our policy priorities, and we're going to attach a dollar figure to it. Congress has thank you for your consideration. But said that the US watches North Korea constantly, the United States government. I'll just put it this way extends a lot of resources and efforts. So we don't have to rely on commercial satellite imagery. There's a lot of activity all the time in North Korea. But I'm not gonna speculate on what that particular commercial satellite picture shows, the renewed activity was detected just two days after the second Trump Kim summit in that failed to reach an agreement. When asked about the images last week, president said it's too early to draw any conclusions. I would be very very disappointed in chairman Kim. And I don't think I will be, but we'll see what happens responding to questions about other areas of international concern Bolton says he. He believes that the momentum in Venezuela's political upheaval is on the side of interim president one Guido, but they have not sought to arrest Guido. And I lived the entire light my entire chose to live that entire year in gratitude. Alright gang one more time, we read you a couple of ads here tell you about ring, and I found out about ring when a friend of mine got it for his house. And it was it's a it's a doorbell. Just got video camera on it. And when anybody comes within proximity you can set it up. So that if anybody walks onto your lawn or walks halfway up your driveway, or whatever it is the monitor the sensor goes off, and it immediately starts recording everything that's happening, and it pins your cell phone, and you can actually pick up your cell phone using the app, and you can see who's at your door. No matter where you are in the world in just a few seconds. And then if you need to you can actually communicate with the person at your door ring made a splash a few years back on star tank. "Aging everyone and that's what we need to do a game but in this case we need targeted primarily wealth rather than at income and at the commonwealth which can't be hidden in the cayman islands in panama and the rest and what would come merity talking about hit its land the crucial source of wealth which is the means by which the very rich transfer the resources of the very poll into their in pockets if you think of rent if you think of what people are now paying and up across britain for example typically is twenty or thirty percent of their income in london it's often fifty percent or sixty percent of their income and basically these people are working so that the landlords they have to work against land was up for providing the providing a house but the house they didn't necessarily build the main price of the house comes from the land which underlies it suspect keynote in finally with a man bridge that harvesting in the form of these massive rents at its distorted the entire hi urban economy it means that people do not places to live means that they don't of local employment united this so many disastrous impacts his had some got a break that power and we do it by introducing a high level of land value tax for people have got above a certain threshold property if know highly valuable property and it's extremely concentrated i mean the average property holding of people in the one percent in this country is fifty million pounds the value of that property so we tax that very heavy not just to reclaim income but to break that economic power and and then we say right what are we gonna do with with the revenue well part of it should go to government to fund essential services but part of it should be redistributed to communities el nico basis around the country and those communities will be encouraged to set up a cohen's trust.

"Was he surprised by anything in these revelations no in some ways it surprising that things that found inherently that interesting like bought eyes on a ship pol pot on ship of a shopping mall in lithuania on our god of this news i think certainly compared to things in the panama papers where you had like corruption and tax evasion and say legality and illegality in some ways i think the sense of anticlimax will fatigue is pretty understandable when it comes to these latest leaks the focused visits on bomber it's or lose hamilton the way the papers run it is the villains all the people who were trying to legally posed little talks was possible look the other way the the focus should be on the tax havens right if if there are people here who could change their behaviour in such a way as to really make a difference because frankly loose hamilton could have paid vat on his jet among the world would be the same place wounds yesterday but the cayman islands the ottoman the chunnel islands of the caribbean tax havens when these things come out to the people in the casino the these places while the people in the cayman islands think oh my god what are we going to do what do they just brush it of neither day that they're very wire aid side i refer to what is called the grisham effect of when the dunk novel the firm was published it was not only a public relations disaster for them than in some ways it fed through today business and a decline in the business so they really really worried about their public profile really that said that i didn't know that said you'd feel where it can john grisham novel and it would be good for business because yes some people would be put off the other people would be what light while nyerere will i think that's what's changed main you can see a james bond film uh someone stashes they money in the caymans are they really gnashing of teeth at this popular culture and media coverage really ruins their whole day so i think offshore there's a feeling of both indignation let's there's not much to this that really it's a bit of a beta.

"So ten ships a shipwreck of ten ships at once was the biggest shipping disaster and cayman islands history and so naturally patrick said you should do a podcast on this so we are a thanks to my vacation so i love a good vacation discover high due to you i have them pretty often when i'm on vacation uh and this i like the last time i had been uh in the museum there was nothing like that but really sparked my attention that this way but this one dan he uh so just a you have uh some back on the cayman islands these are a collection of islands in the caribbean south of cuba in northwest of haiti and they were uninhabited by humans when columbus cited them and fifteen of three after he was blown off course on his last voyage to the americas there is no archaeological evidence of any indigenous people living on these islands but they're certainly were lots and lots of turtles so columbus name them lost her tubas later they were renamed the came on us probably after the of word for came in the alligator like lizard that lives in central and south america and this eventually morphed into being the cayman islands they are made up of grand cayman little cayman and came and brock the cayman islands are now famous for their banking and financial industries and being a place to squirrel your money offshore to get it away from the tax man but until more modern times the economy was based on more local industries like wrote making enduring the golden age of piracy they were also a popular haven for pirates including blackbeard this is what led prince philip to say on a 1994 visit to dedicate a monument to this disaster art most of you descended from pirates.

"So so yes he was he was leaving las vegas on his way home which i believe is in the uk end up while he was waiting for his flight about the board apparently the fbi cayman arrested him and the twitter schreer exploded oh yeah yeah well in in in i honestly for for some time in other when these kinds of things happened the person just disappears they've got off the radar in so that leads to in a one speculation and eventually was indeed confirmed that he he had been arrested in of course set off a firestorm of further controversy which didn't really kind of stabilize until the indictment was made public in it was made public and he was charged with selling the cronos banking middleware back a couple of years ago i think it was for all of lake us seven thousand dollars and he wasn't even the main actors i recall eight a conspiracy to a dayton sell it was interesting i certainly don't have a strong opinion on guilt or innocence at this point i i think that that's entirely what hopefully the justice system will determine it is i would say i saw a lot of incredibly rush jumps to judgment in opinion on twitter of both sides which i don't think is very helpful i think in we know the facts of situations very difficult to react appropriately and a whole lot of people were reacting very strongly before they really knew what was going on.
