"cavs" Discussed on The Crossover NBA Show with Chris Mannix

"This is a team that understands when LeBron left for Los Angeles. This is a team that understood, we can't just build this franchise around like one guy, make him the entire system, do everything to cater to this one guy. They tried to do it a different kind of way. And they have and they're coming off of 44 win season and they have Darius Garland and Jared Allen and Evan mobley and those are the three franchise pillars. At the same time, this isn't the Milwaukee Bucks here, right? This isn't the Golden State Warriors. This is a team that still needs to get better. So if there is an opportunity that presents itself and LeBron is willing to rejoin in a capacity where not everything has to be about LeBron and they don't have to shake up the entire roster in order to get him. They can keep it mostly intact. They can't turn their back on that level talent. They can't. Now there are things about LeBron that obviously you have to do as an organization to bring him on board. And those things can be a pain in the butt and those things make him complicated at times, but at the end of the day, every organization that he has been with would say, well, it was worth it. Miami would say it was worth it. Cleveland? It was worth it. Los Angeles, it was worth it. Yeah. He can bring drama and he can be a headache and yeah, we have to work and we have to work under this intense scrutiny and this intense pressure en championship or bust mode constantly, but it's always going to be worth it because he's always made it worth it. So the Cavs aren't sitting here today saying LeBron kantar organization save us the way that they were in 2014. They feel like they have a good thing going. They feel like there's more upside with this group. They feel like they can be a playoff team this year. They don't feel like they desperately need LeBron like they did in 2014. But if he's willing to come and they can keep the roster intact and they have the cap space to bring him aboard, they're in no position to say no to that caliber player. And I think they know that. That would be, I mean, I would even call it surprising at this point. Because. If LeBron this season is the version we saw last year. There's no reason to believe that there's a cliff for LeBron coming anytime soon. Like add him to that mix and they're the favorites. They are. It's simple as that, you know? I agree with you, you know, it's a totally different situation than what it was in 2014. That team stunk. And yeah, the first pick. They didn't want the first pick as you had Lebrons. You traded for Kevin Love. And the other thing we know about Cleveland, I said this to Kyle goon last week. Like, Dan Gilbert spends. His ownership group has spent over the years, so if it means like signing LeBron to cap space, then blowing that capsules to bring Kevin Love back and, you know, bring whatever you need ancillary that can fit under the rules of the salary cap. They're gonna be willing to do. And quite frankly, the Lakers have not done that the last couple of years from Alex Caruso to some of the other things that have gone on in Los Angeles. And I'm sure that's in the mind of LeBron and his team as they think about their future. Look beyond the fact that this is home Chris and there's always going to be that kind of appeal to LeBron. This is a really good situation for an aging LeBron at the end of his career, like this is part of the reason why he came to the Cavs in 2014. I'm going to eventually pass the torch to somebody like Kyrie. I'm going to give him the blueprint and then towards the end of my career it's going to become kairi's team and I'm going to take a little step back and he goes to Los Angeles and he's there with AD and eventually AD was supposed to be the successor that everything didn't have to be LeBron. LeBron didn't have to be the one that was at the center of everything. He could have that transitional period to the next great star while his career was coming to an end. Like, yes, he would be the best player that the calves would have, but they would also have like really, really good pieces around him. So when his career started to tail off more and more and more, and when he was ready to call it quits, he could pass the torch to either Darius Garland or Evan mobley, and he wouldn't have to be MVP level LeBron every single night for the Cavs to be successful the way that he's had to be for the Lakers because of the variety of injuries and the poor roster construction and all those kinds of things. So I think just from a pure basketball standpoint of what LeBron would want and need towards the end of his career, you would have a hard time finding another situation that would be more appealing with the young talent that the cows have than the caps. I agree. I agree completely. You can read Chris's stuff over at Cleveland dot com, Chris is gonna be a fun season. "cavs" Discussed on The Crossover NBA Show with Chris Mannix

"Bring in lawy marketed. And Colin Sexton has been pushed further and further down the hierarchy of importance when it comes to retaining the young players. Like think about this. Last off season, the Cavs were having conversations with Colin, but they also did something really, really quickly with Jared Allen because they identified Jared Allen as a core piece and write his free agency opened, they kept him off the market and they gave him a contract of 20 million annually. That's what they valued with Jared Allen. Well, they're not giving Colin that kind of contract because they don't value him the same kind of way because he's not as important as he used to be because he's been bypassed by a lot of these other younger guys that they brought to the team and on top of all of that. They traded for somebody in Keras levert at last year's deadline who brings a lot of the elements that you want from somebody like kavalan. So there's a lot of trickiness involved here. And I think a big part of this too, Chris is going into this off season, there were only 5 teams in the NBA with projected salary cap space that could make Collin Sexton the kind of offer that he wanted and the kind of offer that the Cavs would have been queasy about matching. And then all of a sudden, Detroit goes a different direction, right? And then all of a sudden you have the San Antonio spurs that draft two guards in the top 25 of the draft and then, you know, the Indiana Pacers get another guard in Ben Mather in. So they're just like all of a sudden you start to see these quote unquote potential suitors for Colin Sexton vanish slowly and your left saying, well, okay, who else is going to pay him in the NBA? Yeah, it's a conundrum. No question about it. Do you get the sense that both sides are kind of dug in right now with where they are because I mean, you cover it, your more connected than I am, but every time I kind of check in with people in that orbit, like, I don't hear anything. About any kind of movement one way or the other. The calves are made there. Sexton has said what he wants and I don't even know how much they're talking right now. There's a pretty significant gap Chris. That's my understanding of the situation coming into this off season. Colin Sexton and his camp and he's represented by rich Paul and rich Paul is a ruthless negotiator and I mean that in the nicest way possible. He fights hard for his clients. He's willing to do some things that other agents aren't willing to do. He's willing to take this thing close to training camp or close to the start of the season in a way that other agents would be queasy about. So coming into this off season, Colin and his camp wanted starting guard money, they wanted an annual contract with a two as opposed to a one in the cows were never going to go there. So there is a significant gap that they're trying to close if they're going to do a multiyear deal. In fact, I feel like they're so far apart in the Cavs are 13 million away from the luxury tax. And again, they can make other ancillary moves to create some more financial flexibility. But because of the luxury tax situation, you know, the Cavs are really offering all that they can't, they can't go to 15 million annually. They can't go to 18 million annually. They certainly can't go to 20 and they have no desire to go to 20. So I just feel like there's such a significant gap between what Collin and his camp want and what the Cavs feel like one he deserves and two they can actually offer that the most realistic outcome at this point in time is him taking the qualifying offer, betting on himself, trying to show that he can be healthy, trying to show that he can be a winning player, trying to show that he can acclimate to this potential 6 man role that he would be in to show that he can be a less usage still effective player. Like all those different things. And then hit unrestricted free agency next off season when more than half the league is going to have salary cap space. So it'll be like a different kind of they feel like it'll be a different kind of market that Colin will be dealing with as opposed to this limited one that he's had to deal with this off season. So let's assume that Sexton is back under one contract or another. Last year, I looked at last year, Chris, as a rousing success for Cleveland. They didn't make the playoffs, but who cares? They got Darius Garland that works Evan mobley works. Jared Allen works. The carrots levert situation worked. Everything was working for Cleveland last year. Kevin Love, as a 6th man, worked with that team. There really wasn't too much to be disappointed about. What do you think? I mean, that's a honeymoon type of year. They could do no wrong last year. What do you think are reasonable expectations for the Cavs going into this season? To further your point, I think the most important thing, Chris, is that Darius worked Jared worked Evan worked and they all worked together. Right? It's one thing to have these pieces and you feel good about your future pieces, but it's another thing to have those pieces fit, right? Darius and Jarrett combine to form one of the most lethal pick and roll duos in the entire Eastern Conference. So you know that it works with Darius and Jarrett and Evan together, Jared and Evan can play together. So the three most important pieces of this renaissance all fit together. Now it's about finding the other pieces around those guys. But I mean, I think it's interesting because coming into this off season, there was a sense of from the organization. There was a sense of, we don't know how good we could have been. We don't know how good we can be, and we don't know how good we are. Because we didn't get that opportunity last year. They lost Colin Sexton, they lost Ricky Rubio, Keras levert comes over in a trade and he steps on a teammate's foot on the first practice after all star. Jared Allen banks his finger in a fluke injury, his off finger while trying to block a shotty banged it on the rim and he missed basically the end of the regular season. So they're looking at it saying, there were reasons why we didn't get that locked in playoff spot. There were reasons why we got bounced out of the play and tournament out of our control. And I think they're wondering just how good can this group become? And there's a level of unknown and uncertainty because of all the injuries that they dealt with. The team that they were at the beginning of the season is not the team that they were at the end of the season when they got bounced out of the play and tournament by Brooklyn and Atlanta. So there's a level of unfinished business here. Let's find out just how good we can be. And that's part of the reason why they took the approach that they did this off season, where they essentially decided to run it back. Yeah, I mean, it's a really good team and a really fun team. And getting into the playoffs is a full fledged playoff participant would be, I think, a big win, doing it without LeBron James, of course, hasn't been done there for quite some time. And speaking of LeBron, August 4th is when LeBron can extend with the Lakers. I'm envisioning a slew of Joker memes with and here we go. Once that date passes, the LeBron, of course, doesn't have to extend on that date. He has all season long to extend with the Lakers whenever he wants to. But from the moment he, if he doesn't extend immediately, Chris. Lakers fans are going to be wondering what his future is going to be. And I'm sure there's going to be plenty of people in Cleveland wondering what his future is going to be. You talked to people with the Cavs all the time. You've covered that team for years. Is there any way to answer the question of what kind of appetite the Cavs have for a third go round with LeBron James next summer when they will have a slew of cap space, Kevin Love comes off the books, Karis levert comes out the books, mentioned Darius Garland represented by rich Paul if Colin Sexton's back represented by rich Paul Evan moley looks like maybe one of the next big things, a unique pivot or unique big man in the middle. All they'd really be missing is a small forward with this team. It's almost poetic Chris that something like this could actually happen. But what do you think the Cavs interest in a reunion with LeBron again would be? I'll put it this way, Chris.

"Now to go on vacation, even when there's a lot going on in the NBA. Yeah, Kevin Durant, his situation still out there. Colin Sexton in Cleveland, under the radar free agent, he is still out there. I'm gonna talk about both those teams on this week's episode. I'm gonna bring in Brian Lewis, who does a fantastic job covering the nets for the New York Post. We'll talk about all things KD and exactly what is the next step in this trade demand for Kevin Durant and what the nets are gonna do. After that, Chris fedor does an excellent job covering the Cavaliers for Cleveland dot com. He'll join me. We'll talk about the Sexton situation. We'll talk about the Cavs chances of contending next season. And is it possible we could get a third go round for LeBron James in Cleveland, all that more on this week's episode. But first, my conversation with Brian Lewis. This is the crossover, an NBA show hosted by Sports Illustrated's Chris mannix and Howard back. It's a whole new level for you and me, Chris. This relationship. Like and subscribe for the best weekly NBA content these two are capable of. What does that mean? Could be the best duo ever. I don't see how you can beat that. Here they are. Chris mannix, and Howard back. All right, it is the end of July and only one team in the NBA still making

"You mentioned Rubio. How many teams in the league would like Ricky Rubio right now? Just an unselfish playmaker will start, come off the bench, whatever you need for him is well liked by his teammates. I mean, there's probably a dozen teams that wish they had the foresight to go out and acquire Ricky Rubio last summer. Kevin Love is giving them something. He's not the Kevin Love of old, but he's giving them a little bit something off the bench. To me, I think this caps team is a playoff team this year. I don't think that's a big leap to take. I'm curious Howard. What do they do with Sexton right now? Because, you know, I Sexton was on this podcast last year and you know he wants to get paid. Like he wants to be paid like an all star caliber player. He just doesn't fit that way in Cleveland. So if I'm the cabs, I sort of take the temperature of the market out there. And see if there's a team that likes Colin Sexton enough, not to get him back this year because that's probably not going to happen, but to have his bird rights for next year to be able to resign him for a big dollar number and have him over the long term. And even if you're going to get like 50 cents on the dollar for it, find pieces that work alongside Garland alongside of kora alongside Evan movile. You've got your core right now. You've got those guys are three first round picks that you've had over the last few years. All the bad basketball that you had to swallow to get those first round picks, you've got players. Now for it, now it's about building around those guys. So I'd like to see, you know, the Cavs, not dump, Colin Sexton, but if they can find shooters or backups at key positions, back up help in the backcourt. I'd be more inclined to do that because I don't see Colin Sexton accepting like a 6th man role with this team next year, which as we look at the way they're playing right now, that's probably optimal for them, backing up Garland, backing up okoro and being kind of that instant offense off the bench. Yeah, and you and I both know young guys with a lot of talents, guys who were lottery picks don't usually warm very quickly to the idea of being 6 men at that early stage of their career. He's going to want to go and be a starter somewhere. And.

"What if he goes out Howard and average is like 28 and 9 in the month of January? And he probably will. He very way. I've not seen of all the stuff he's posted on social media. I have not seen much of him working out of the gym. I don't know how long it's going to take him to get into game shape. He can come back and get hurt immediately too by rushing back. So it would be very awkward if he comes in stabilizes them for a month. They get healthy. Everybody gets out of protocols and they say, all right, thanks. Go back to being banished to your home while we continue on without you. But if they're going to be consistent, that would be the way to do it. I just think it'd be very hard to putting Genie back in the bottle type stuff. However, my bigger question, Chris, is this one? What happens with the playoffs roll around? If he's still not vaccinated in the law hasn't changed, really? You're gonna go into the playoffs with Kyrie Irving playing only road playoff games and you might have that doesn't work. A game 7 at home and you're without one of your biggest stars because I mean, you know, here's the thing. If you're the nets, do you expertly tank so you wind up in the 5th seat, so you never have to play game 7 as you move forward? All right, but half of your games half of your games are still gonna be if it's 6 games or fewer half, but they might be the first team in league history to want to avoid home court advantage. Possibly. It's a very strange place to be. But that's the thing. Like, I don't care what they do for the next couple of months. You know, do it do it as safely as you can. Kairi's playing card is not playing whatever. I don't care. But this is a much bigger issue in the playoffs. You can not have a guy of his caliber be a part time player an ineligible for a home games in the playoffs when you're trying to win a championship. And that's where they will still be assuming he does not get vaccinated and assuming New York's law doesn't change. Well, you know, the conversations I've had with people in Brooklyn, what they are hoping for. They have no reason to be optimistic about this. But they're hoping Kyrie's back. He's in the facility. He's around Durant. He's a round harden. He's around his teammates, and he comes around in the next month or so to getting vaccinated. I believe, as current rules state, like if you just get the one Johnson & Johnson shot, you are considered fully vaccinated by NBA standards. I don't know if that's the same with New York or how that mandate works. But whatever it is. I know the nets are hoping that the players get to Cairo. They don't believe there any pressure applied by them than being the coaching staff, the front office ownership is going to work..

"Positionally smart. If you watch him, I was sent in a clip of him like a miles bridges and we were talking about this on our show recently that miles bridges was attacking him, and you could just see miles bridges where he normally dusted people like makes a couple shifty moves. Mobly was like matching mirroring him and he's significantly bigger. But he's evaluated on that end and then he just makes pieces make sense. Like what you were describing about piece is not fitting together. Mobile, some teams will have good pieces, I think about the Lakers back in the mid 2010s when they had all those guys that were like, I like these guys. Why do they suck so bad? Why is this so not fun to watch? Why is this the worst offensive team I've ever seen? And then those guys go on to do other things, you know? It's like a show that sucks with a lot of great actors. You're like, why? And then we watch the kings try to play a Luke Walton offense and we see how that works. Yeah, then we see it. It's like, why did that show not working? And then all those actors go on to be another great stuff. It's like sometimes sometimes the context isn't there, and it's like what you were talking about. I've said over and over again, Cavs fans that know what you're probably sick of me saying this, but I despise the Garland sex and fit. I know what the hell they were doing. I don't even know long term if it's going to continue to be a thing, but the luxury that they have is there's not crazy pressure on that dynamic. Like that's what the presence of mobile has done. So they could potentially make a move down the road here, or, you know, and then they have a core sitting in the wings, literally here, like an investment that could just go to the moon and make it as a quality ball defender. The calves went from I see how it went for them and then I see like for a team like we were talking about, okay see who is just kind of like have all these weird pieces. I made a video recently about how they have weird pieces. You can make sense in a hurry if you can get a context changing player like Moby, which is what he is. And context changing players to that extent. Come around like in the two way sense that you were talking about describing. Right. I mean, 15 years. I mean, it's like a very rare thing. Sharks that he thinks he could be the best player in the NBA someday. I was like, I don't know if I'm ready to totally get there, but he can be pretty fucking good, man. I mean, he's pretty his impact is I was high on him and I think I underestimated him. Sorry, I really kind of monologue there, but it's crazy what they've done. It's really impressive. No, I'm in the same boat. I love Evan mobley coming in. I said, this is a multi time. If the over under is one and a half all NBA teams for Evan mobley, I said I would take the over. And I still underestimated him, I think. Like, I feel pretty good about him being a top ten player in the league at some point..

"Teams would have lined up to get him even at a big contract. Let's finish Howard with Cleveland, where a lot of excitement right now around Evan mobley with the way he's playing. Molly and Jared Allen have been a really good front court in Cleveland, especially defensively. Darius Garland has been really good. A little bit of a rain on the parade with the injury to Colin sex and it's probably going to wind up costing them games over the next few weeks, but for the first time in as long as I can remember Howard. Since LeBron James was not a member of the Cavaliers, there's real optimism in Cleveland that this team might have the makings of a future contender. I'll put the question this way. Should they be optimistic? Is this the foundation of a future playoff team in Cleveland? Yes, it's the foundation of a future playoff team. It might even be the foundation of a current playoff team. I don't know. You know, listen, again, if you look at where they are in the standings, let's do the quick review. They're fourth in the east, they're not really the fourth best team in the Eastern Conference. But a couple of teams ahead of them probably shouldn't be there either. And again, Chicago and Washington, I think you're going to have to fall back to the pack a little bit. The nets are finally where you'd expect them to be top two in the east as we record this. The heat are lingering back there and you know, they've had a couple of bumps and bruises, but the heat got off to a really strong start. I still think the heater at top four team in the east alongside Brooklyn eventually Milwaukee, who are 6 and 8 right now, but again, does anybody really believe this is where the bucks are going to finish? No. So things are going to sort out. We haven't even hit the 20 game market. And some of this is going to there's going to be a regression to the mean or there's going to be some teams finally finding their footing who have more talent. That's all going to happen. And that's fine. The Cavs don't have to be the fourth best team in the east to clear this season a success after the rough couple years they've had since the bronze departure. If the question is more about the outline of what they have, then, yeah, I think there's reason for great optimism. When we knew Garland and Sexton had some talent, but they weren't a great fit together and I think still won't be a great fit together and eventually won't be together. But you pick one, probably Garland since you didn't extend Sexton. And you're moving forward with him and mobley as your foundational pieces. Are those two guys both perennial all stars in the future? Certainly looks like it. I don't know about Garland, maybe. Looks like he could be a game changer. And I think the only question you could have and this is a really obnoxious unfair question..

"Okay, people asking me to talk about Kent bazemore. People ask me to talk about Kent bazemore and frankly, people are saying, let's talk about Kent bazemore and why he sucks. Kent bazemore does not suck. He doesn't. Offensively, there's moments where he's not good. Kent bazemore attacking the basket is a bit of an adventure. Sometimes it's a little bit awkward when he's attacking the basket. Tonight, two of 7 shooting owned for two from three. In fact, there was one point when he got kicked the ball in the corner and I went, boom, that's his shot. I even said it out loud. I said, there it is. That's his shot, any airballed it. It's not a good shooting night for him. We've seen it though, the nights where he gets hot and the thing barely touches the net because he swishes that corner three. He can hit those, but defensively, he's a good player. Defensively, he's going to put in the effort. He's going to have the energy on that end of the floor. That's going to be where he focuses. So when we look at his stat line, we see, okay, 28 minutes, four points. What did he do out there? Well, two rebounds two assists, three steals is kind of big, three steals is important, but he's also a plus 9. Plus 9 plus minus. That's one of the higher ones on the team. Anthony Davis plus 11, LeBron, plus 9. Carmela Anthony plus ten. Again, Avery Bradley plus 30, it was not a bad night for Kent bazemore. Think about bazemore almost the way we think about Danny Green, where a lot of the things that he does, and this was a challenge when Danny Green was on the team. But a lot of the things that he does well, don't show up necessarily in the stat sheet. It's more about what he can do. Do teams have to account from him for him behind the three point line? Yeah, especially when he's in the corner. They do have to kind of they have to keep an eye on them. They have to care that he's out there. And then defensively, he's going to give you the effort on that side of the floor. He's a good defender. He's not a great defender, but he's a good defender. A good enough defender to where there's a difference between having him on the floor and having Malik monk on the floor. Malik monk, a much better offensive player, much more dynamic offensive player, but her shooter, capable of doing a lot more, but he's nowhere near the defensive player that Kent bazemore is. So bazemore makes a difference in that way to be that kind of Danny Green ish role where you're just going to defend the other team's best perimeter player on most nights and you're going to bring that energy every single night. And that's part of why the Avery Bradley Kent bazemore lineup worked because you had two guys who both weren't going to make the mistake that was going to lead to a basket. Malik monk was going to make the mistake. And so by going with the two defensive minded players, it just worked for the Lakers. And again, that's been the recipe for success. Historically with LeBron James led teams, think back to Avery Bradley and Danny Green together in the backcourt. This is, again, pays more and greener, not the same player. They don't even play the exact same way, but it's the same idea when you combine those two in a backcourt on a LeBron James team. And so I think that's part of the why we saw some of the success. So look, even if it wasn't a great individual night for him, his role fits very well on this team in terms of what it is that they need.

"Have to keep winning those two battles. Yeah, so on the night, the Lakers actually lost the offensive rebound battle 16 offensive rebounds for the cabs, which again is too many. But 11 for the Lakers, 42 rebounds overall for the Lakers to 36 for the cabs. Points in the paint, total, the Lakers 60 the cabs 44. Now here's the thing, though. The Lakers did up 13 fast break points, and that's a lot of times that's how you generate points in the paint. You know, when we look at that stat, we tend to think, okay, points in the paint means your posting up players. You're pounding the ball inside. But the modern NBA, it's more about are we driving into the paint, not through post-op actions. It's not always, when we think of points in the paint, we think, oh, the bigger, stronger teams got to dominate and points in the paint, not necessarily, because so many of the quick guards are able to get into the paint and cause problems there. And if you're a fast break team, if you get a breakaway, guess what that is. It's points in the paint. It's not how we typically think of it, but you're getting a breakaway dunk, you're scoring points in the other team's paint. So therefore, it counts towards it. So if you're the Lakers and you're defending and you're getting a lot of stops and getting a lot of buckets in transition, that's going to lead to a lot of scoring in the paint. I also thought they were, though, a little bit more assertive about getting to the basket. I saw Russell Westbrook, do this. And we were talking about this after last game about how they can't settle for those mid range jumpers. I thought they did a little bit better job of not doing that of pushing the action and making sure that, hey, even if you've got shot blockers in the middle, even if you've got guys that like Jared Allen, even if you've got Evan mobile, I'm going to take the ball. I'm going to go into his body, right? I'm going to jump up. I'm going to get contact and I'm going to put the ball up on the rim. And worst case, I'm going to draw that help defender and then AD's got an easy tip and dunk, right? That kind of a mentality from Russell Westbrook where you can pick up some Kobe assists, where he shoots it, and then one of your own guys gets the rebound and puts it back up and in. I think that's a better proposition than the pull up 16 footer from Russ. Except for the weird 45° angle bank shot. And he's got from the left side. Russ has got that one down. I don't know. It's like a guard version of Tim Duncan kind of. Trevor Bailey from YouTube. So Trump will Russ actually take the load off of LeBron or do you see the team still relying heavily on Braun going forward? I think they are going to I think they are going to continue to rely on LeBron moving forward. Every team that has said LeBron we're going to bring in this player to take some of the burden off of you, he's still wound up doing a lot of the stuff. A lot of the heavy lifting on the offensive end. I think Russ, we saw it against San Antonio, right? Russell Westbrook allowed the Lakers to get a win even though LeBron was not there because he was able to really handle the ball and go. Now you can have some.

"Somebody said Trump is the Lakers organization and supports you like with your following. Should they pay you? No, I don't work directly for the Lakers. I've done one event for the Lakers a couple of years ago, but I don't work directly for the Lakers. But I also wouldn't really be able don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I wouldn't. I'm not saying it wouldn't work for the Lakers. But I also wouldn't be able to do a lot of what I do. Like if you work for the team, then you fall under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement you fall under tampering rules. So when we discuss potential trades, I wouldn't be able to say another player's name. I wouldn't be able to do any of that kind of stuff. I wouldn't be able to break down the salary cap structure of another team. I wouldn't be able to get into any of the rumors. The only thing I'd be able to talk about is things that are officially done. I wouldn't even be able to talk about a player that we know is being traded, but it just hasn't been executed yet because of timing reasons. I wouldn't even be able to talk about that. So that's the downside. But again, I'm not saying it wouldn't. All right, let's get into a few other ones. I've got some more super chats coming in here. Lemon James from YouTube, the super chat said, hey, as always, great channel, but I think carmela will get 6 men of the year and the Lakers are having communication issues on defense. That's all. I don't think it's communication issues on you. I mean, I do think it's communication issues, but I don't think it's solely that. I don't think it's totally that. I think part of it is you've got some guys who individually are just not good defenders. Carmella Anthony. Let's pick on All right, he had a great night offensively. It shot was falling. He helped the Lakers win this game. But we also saw in the first half Carmelo Anthony subbed in and the Cavs went, oh, let's go and they went right at him. Three possessions in a row and they scored on them. All three of them. Went right after Carmelo Anthony put him in pick and roll situations and lit him up. With Lowry marketing, I'm not saying it's not Darius Garland who's got a pretty solid handle. It's not like they broke him off and forced him into a switch on Darius Garland and then he got burned. No, Lowry marketing was burning Carmelo Anthony. Defensively, there's going to be some games where he really hurts the Lakers. Tonight, his offense was so good. He was phenomenal. His offense was so good that he made up for it and then some by the end of the game..

"A problem for the Lakers, but that does lead us into a bigger topic. You guys saw what happened. You saw what happened with the defense. I think we saw Frank Vogel in my mind. I'm sure he will have a much more eloquent way to explain this. But in my mind, I felt like Frank Vogel hit his breaking point. That he finally just said, you know what? Anybody who doesn't play defense isn't gonna be in the game. How many times did we see the Lakers in the first half? Get back cut. How many times did we see them give up easy points to the cabs right down the lane? Way to many. And so Frank Vogel finally said, you know what? Forget it. He threw his hands up, he said, I don't care about offensive spacing. I don't care whether or not you can shoot. I don't care anything else you can do, give me guys who can play defense and he went with a lineup. I think this might be the key, moving forward for at least a little while. Avery Bradley, Kent bazemore, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard. That was the lineup Frank Vogel turned you to stop the bleeding in the second quarter. And if you look at in terms of individual defenders, it does not get better than that. If that did not work, Frank Vogel would be out of options, defensively. That's the best they've got defensively. And he threw it out there. And guess what? It worked. It worked. They started getting stops. They started getting stops and guess what else they got? Transition buckets. We were talking about this from day one that this team could be a very good transition team. But guess what you can't do when you don't get stops. Run. There is no fast break when you're taking the ball out of your own basket. Time and time again, and that's what we saw. The much of the end of the first quarter and into the second, we saw the Lakers taking the ball out of their own basket every time they scored in the half court on the other end, they were getting scored on right back. They couldn't make up any ground. In fact, they were losing ground. They were down by ten at one point to the Cavs and then they went all defense. They started getting stops and then they were able to get out and run. And that's credit to bay's more credit to Bradley for just going in and doing the dirty work. And it's not like this is rocket science. This is how teams have historically been built around LeBron James. Just give me guys who will defend their butts off and can occasionally knock in and open three. That's it. I don't care if they can do anything else. Just give me guys who can do that and we're gonna be okay. So Frank Vogel went back to the drawing board, said I'm putting in all the defensive players and you know what it worked. And you have to imagine that somewhere inside that felt good for Frank Vogel who is a defensive obsessed coach. He's obsessed with the defensive end of the floor and to finally see a group execute on defense..

"Picked up a much needed win. We're gonna break it all down including a pivotal moment. I think the Lakers may have stumbled upon something, I think Frank Vogel hit his breaking point. If you listen to the podcast version of this because that's probably happening tomorrow. All right, let's dive into it starting off with the stats. The Lakers. Again, pick up the win one 13 to one O one. Anthony Davis 15 points 9 boards three assists three blocks, including one ridiculous block Larry marking in the game was still a little bit in question, but AD it was in emphatic block him racing back into the play. It was a bad turnover by Russell Westbrook. We'll get to him in a minute and AD really saved the day that was great to see, but I'll have some more thoughts on him and not all of them are positive, but some more thoughts on AD coming LeBron James returns from that ankle injury does not shoot well from three one for ten, but still, one pretend from three, his one make came from Inglewood, he shot it from the Lakers logo, but to the side of the logo, I mean ridiculous that one three that he hit, but ten for 22 from the field. Ten for 22 from the field and he went one for ten from three. That's incredible efficiency from two point range. Did have 7 turnovers, but 26 points, 8 assists for LeBron. Welcome back three steels as well. Russell Westbrook, 8 for 13, only four turnovers will take that 19.6 boards, 5 assists. Not bad. Not bad for us. And we'll talk a bit more about him as well. I've got some thoughts there. Carmelo Anthony, though. Pulling the Kobe 24 points. 5 boards 6 of 8 from deep. That feels familiar. Camarillo Anthony just had a big shooting performance couple of games ago when the Lakers were at home, and now here he is again 9 for 12 shooting overall great offensive performance out of Carmelo Anthony. We've got to talk about him more, as well as we get into this thing. Now, the Cleveland Cavaliers Evan mobley is a stud, 23.6 boards three assists two steals ten for 16 shooting one of two from deep. The Cavs got a very good one in the draft this year. A lot of guys coming out of this draft looking really solid and Evan mobley certainly one of them Darius Garland drops 18 points with 11 assists. Lowry marketing has 17 only three rebounds for him, though..

He said it's just the cost of the panel to put it in the roof. You're better off. Plug it into a one ten outlet for two hours. We'll give you the same. That would that solar was going to do all day. And that's just off of a one ten no special nothing no no three prong no nothing just but for something like a or camper van. This is a pretty good solution. i think. Yeah when you have that type of roof and then you're able to like you know because when you your rb your camped out i mean it's like one of them works kind of as a non ing one of those things that comes out. Yeah so then have a little bit of shade. Underneath i think solar makes way more sense for rv than it does for automotive for trucks. I see people talking about the f one fifty nine. It's got the bed. Not instead of a tunnel. The bed cover at of cover turned that into a solar panel. But i think it's the same thing you're not going to get. You know the cavs gonna block the sun and different sides and you know this being on an rv. There isn't anything up above it. The block the sun. It just makes more sense on an rv. I still impressed with the miles that they were able to do. I think we we. We've talked to. Koa where they said that people don't travel a ridiculous amount of time distance a lot of times for camping a lot of times. It is a little local trip. The little weekend trip that thing would be awesome for little weekend trips. Yeah it'd be perfect when you're not trying to drive across the country but it could do it you would just take just like now in an e. It just takes a little extra planning. It already takes a little extra planning when driving across the country in an rv. What's what's a little bit more planning really on top of it. I mean we already planned where we're don't stop for fuel where we stopped it Sleep tonight and where he don't stay aso what's a little bit. It's a little bit that the routes that you're gonna take so you're not traffic at certain so a little bit more planning no big deal then the last one. I've found a few articles by this.

"And I guess maybe big picture, that's something we should mention here. Like a lot of the guys that we're talking about, there's no guarantee they're actually going to make the team here. Like Alice Johnson, okay, got a two year deal. Yeah, he's probably sticking around. But a lot of these guys that are coming in, non guaranteed deals. They're really just training camp invites. We've hit that point of the year where you're getting like team bags signs this player, but that player is really just coming in to work out when the team that maybe wind up with the G league squad. And so with some of these names, don't just assume, oh, this guy is a lock on this team. No, that's not. We're not in that part of free agency right now. Yeah, no. It's pretty rare that milsap Aldridge. Those ones are different types of things, but any of these guys are here. And one it's rare that they even make the team out of training camp two if they make it, then they have a big impact. That is even more rare. Kind of a guy who I think might be one of the last guys to do it and actually have an impact with his team as Ken rich Williams, who's actually been pretty good in his career for both the pelicans and the thunder. So that's what you're looking for is a guy like that or a guy who maybe shows just enough that then he gets to the G league. He gets a ten day call up later, something along those lines. So that's what the next guy I think we're going to talk about Terry Scott to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is he was with the calves in summer league. Looked better in summary than I think he did at times in college. He's 6 foot 8 wing. Player, he kind of played more as a power forward at that Cincinnati in college than he did on the perimeter he averaged 11.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. And just under a block per game and a 1.5 steel. So kind of an active defensive guy can do some stuff there, but on this Cavs team, very unlikely he's going to make the team out of camp..

"Precondition cabs sandy right and if you just think about risk management in today's situation if if i'm gonna spend how much money on this slot cavs by can minimize my risk not gonna look better to my banker somewhat aligned. But it's a different subject to that is whether those calves have received growth implants or have not. Is that a variable of to be considered here. Yeah you know. I hear people say well. I don't want implant them. Because you know people they their impression is paying more money for non implant. Well if you look at this data said there's three years in that data sit where they're actually paying more money for implanted cavs versus non implant and so the the idea that non implanted. Cavs every you more money at this point the market. That's not true. Now you put them into some other source verified program there may be more premium with that but not just strictly saying these are not implanted than in line. It is not getting premium. The other part of that is one of the programs they have looked at in. The course of some of the state is non hormone treated cattle. And of course there's Several programs that kind of relate to that whether it's natural all-natural plus but the level of those premiums. You need a really sharp pencil to make sure that that you're getting paid for those and this data would indicate it might be very challenging to get return for what you're giving up to not use. Various technologies might be hard to come out in the end. You weren't in just the right marketing when you get cavs sick and have to start treating someone pulling them out of that program. That's you know can get really expensive fast. So you know just some challenges and again Looking at those values can help you understand some of that variation over time and make some decisions within your with. There's an article by the way in the beef tips..

"It's not like this is new ride drumming is known for a while now. I mean, how long ago did the Cavs send him home that he was going to be going somewhere else and that most likely he was going to be bought out that they've probably wasn't going to trade for him. And so dramatist had a while to think about this. I don't think it's going to take that long for him to come to a decision. At least. I hope that it doesn't and I hope that he does pick your Los Angeles Lakers. But again, we'll have to wait and see right now. I would anticipate him making that decision tomorrow, I would hope but again that's just going off of what mode should said about how he's expecting a decision within 24 hours. The Celtics want him somebody mentioned. Yeah. There's a lot of teams that want Andre Drummond. That's it's not a surprise at all. Somebody said asmodai said what about Jabari Parker? I'd I don't think he's exactly what the Lakers need there in terms of a wing player. I know he's a big name and a number to pick formally and the NBA draft but is that a lot of chances and it just hasn't quite worked out with him. I would like to see a workout with him. I would love to see him figure out some way to resuscitate a career but I don't know if the Lakers have that opportunity for him to do that. I hope somebody picks him up and he gets an opportunity and he gets another chance and he proves himself and he sticks and I would love to see that happen. I just don't know that the Lakers are the right fit there. Ben McLemore, somebody mentioned sure. Yeah, Ben McLemore would be an interesting fit as well in terms of you know, you can question maybe the defense but I seem to remember him dropping a lot of Threes on the Lakers. A lot of people asking though about gorgui Jing. Yeah, I think I think that's another one and I like that he's out there at least right? Because we've been talking about what is the fallback? What if Drummond decides? No, I just want to stay on the East Coast. I'm not going to La I'm going to go to Boston. That would be awful or I'm going to go to New York because they're going to give me multiple years. That's the the other issue. Here is New York's got cap space. Maybe they offer him a multi-year deal because that's the gamble right now for Drummond is he wants to go somewhere that will give him a lot of minutes so that he can earn a another big contract in the offseason the Knicks can just offer him a contract now and then maybe he doesn't have to worry about like betting on himself for the next few months..

"Kyrie Irving, I know it's not really Kyrie said are you doing the Master Lock? Yes. I am. I just got ranted on a few things here, but we do need to get into the Master Lock wage night. We're about about that point. So let me know. What are you guys think? What are you guys doing fiber. Before? I even tell you what the Master Lock in the night is fire it off in the comments. Let me know what you guys think whether you're coming in from YouTube app Facebook from Periscope who should be put in the Master Lock to night. Here we go. And I'm all right. I'm just going through some of these responses here and they are pretty good. I'm seeing some good ones see a lot of people saying Master Lock the turnovers. Once again, the turnovers were particularly bad. 23 turnovers for the Lakers tonight. Thank goodness. They were playing the Cavs. By the way again, I don't look at this game and think oh, you know what the Lakers are good now. Everything's fine smooth sailing from here. They're going to win games. Now the cabs are really bad. But that said I'm still going to focus on the positive here. I think 23 turnovers. Absolutely Master Lock worthy know if I I feel like Master locking a person tonight not going to master like a concept like turnovers. Yeah, they're bad. We know that that's gotta get better. I'm going to put the master lock on Darius game tonight, and he played fine 14.5 assist 64171 / 6 from 3. Remember there was a point in time where we thought Darius Garland was going to be the Lakers pick fourth overall for they traded that pick to get Anthony Davis. Yeah, there was there was definitely there is a alternate reality out there where Darius Garland is a Laker right now because they used that fourth pic. I don't think I want to go to that reality cuz they probably didn't win a 17th NBA championship. But I'm put the master lock on Darius Garland not because you played poorly but because of one defensive play where he very clearly and he took the flagrant foul Ford slid his foot under West Matthews who was shooting the ball and I think the NBA has become too touchy with Shooters..
