"Poisoned corrects. And a lot of this is is attributed to the fact that when Kublai Khan took over control of of the empire he actually used a lot of the stories of Continue as propaganda. They were much exaggerated and kind of twisted to serve his purposes. And it wasn't until we started seeing those Marco Polo accounts Come up the people really started to hear the Truth About Catoon Gene Story and you might say what a what a neat fascinating story. "We'd like to give you a sense of just. How bad ass continue actually is? Here's another quotation for Marco Polo describing her preferred referred method of combat. Nothing scared her not only did catoon ride by her father's side into battle. She regularly charged headfirst into enemy lines to to make a dash the host of the enemy and sees some man. They're out as deftly as a hawk pounces on a bird and carry them to her father. This is interesting because ause it almost sounds like some kind of brutal bloodthirsty game of fetch. You know what I mean. I'm not saying that she was a dog or trained or anything. But that's interesting that she would just run in snatch someone off a horse and then take him back to dad. How strong do you have to be to do that? Quite right right I would say yeah for sure. That's that's definitely I mean. She was a force to be reckoned with for sure but there was. There was one battle that she was very against. And that was one of the oldest battles of the Human Species Romance Exactly Ryan Mary my now I loved. What do you think about married with children manage you enjoy? It made me uncomfortable as a child did did I. I was afraid I was afraid that if I watched too much of it it would like affect my real life and I might end up like like al or bud working at a shoe store where there's nothing wrong around working at a shoe store now but he it was specifically. He was very entranced by women's feet. There was a lot of weird fetishism in that show. If I'm not mistaken. I think think I was watching it too. Young an age really understand. It was pretty Raunchy like he had to look at a particular magazine before he got amorous with his wife. uh-huh yeah I always thought was really hot. Smoke show. I really thought about what's that actor's name who also does the voice of The character on Futurama trauma with the with the one I Leela Katie Seagal. Yes huge huge crush on Peggy Bundy more so even than Kelly and applegate applegate. Yeah but they were all good actors. They were what happened to the guy who played Bud Non Whole Lot. What was his name David Faustino? That's right wow you you like the show more than I did quite enjoy the show But no KUN did not Lake Mary was she'll drink did not exist. She had like marriage as an institution. Unlike marriage. An institution so she was trying to set herself up for failure. Essentially right she rigged the game. She had that same code owed that I claimed to have had for so long that she would only marry the man who could best her in wrestling which she was known to be an expert at and also How emasculating was that have been at the time right well? How difficult unfair to women or were the marriages ridges of the time? Oh no question about it but what I'm saying is what man would be willing to like. Submit himself to that kind of humiliation. Maybe you know 'cause he's like if he if he wins then he looks like a big jerk who's like quote unquote beating up a girl right and if he loses then he's been defeated by a woman you know and And that would probably not sit well with his reputation will keep in mind too that the idea of marriage for romantic purpose is is is a relatively recent notion. In our species in civilization many of these dudes doubtlessly did not were not particularly attracted. You too could tune you know. They as the ROM COM say. They didn't love her for her marriages. Were these diplomatic deals like any other Any any other geopolitical arrangement. The fathers chose the husband based on how it would unite or divide a tribe. How would help the balance of power and the woman in the marriage has just the one husband? Here's why it stinks to be a woman in these marriages because the men on the other side of the marriage bed have as many wives lives as they want and they also have a Harem of women. They sleep with that. They don't marry so they have like this. POKEMON GOTTA collect them all approach right so they can have their cake and eat it too which is just cartoon initially unfair a women. I completely agree with you. There been so what's the point right. What's the point of marriage as an institution Not only did she not want to be you. You know the shadow of a man I think. Probably part of her saw that inequality in saw that disconnected and was like. I don't want any part of that. I should have have the same choice as any man I should be able to stand on my own. Two feet I can best demand in wrestling. I can fight alongside men on horseback shooting my bows. It was an arrows Why should I allow myself to be the Chattel of some dumb man right so Kydoo says your when you're a woman now girl boom boom? You're really saying your heart out today. Then I always it is is working well so you know just we can't because apparently We can't play actual salts in their entirety but that would make the episodes along too so so yes Kydoo says you're coming of age. I need to marry you off. Catoon and she says look. I know we're both very into our Our culture or nomadic lifestyle and they get that you feel. This is the right moment in my life to get married and that this will help our our clans greater under age. But I don't really want to do it so I will get married on one condition right. I think you can guess what it is. You know we've been talking and by this whole time The condition that she be bested by said man said sewer In combat hand hand to hand Wrestling right so if any man wins then she becomes his wife but what happens if the man loses he doesn't get killed stoned to death. No you're very pro stoning to death man. Have you ever seen happen. It's not pretty Justin Marco Polo Wasn't that bad but it was a tremendous financial blow if they were If they were defeated wrestling they would have to give catoon. June one hundred horses. Is that like the name of their currency or the physical horses yet. A hundred actual horses. Yeah no word. On the quality of the horses versus they had to be stallions or if it was okay for them to be fouls whatever would like Asher. She wouldn't accept like some sickly horses. I don't know that's the thing about one hundred horses at once. She kind of threat them in. If you're unethical the same way that people like will use a roll of twenty dollar bills but the inside is just one dollars ban. You've done this before I have no. I'm a straight shooter in the criminal underworld when it comes to horse-trading at least yeah when it comes over straight which might be legal or not horse-trading a horse racing and betting might be legal in Georgia's that true yeah has nothing to do with anything And isn't it kind of an inherently a little bit of uh it's very problematic enterprise yeah so Back to the historical horses. Let's hop on our historical horses. Here could soon has a lot of people come. Try to wrestler right. Of course she does which is which goes completely against what I thought would happen because again I would think who would who would want to submit themselves to this but I guess they were less concerned about being beaten and they were pretty sure that they would reign supreme almost like a reverse kind of glass slipper situation right right absolutely and this adds up pretty quickly could soon reportedly gains over ten thousand horses from these wrestling matches if you do the math one hundred per loss to ten thousand that means she wrestled and beat more than one hundred dudes? That's legendary man. That's crazy. Wow they're professional wrestlers who haven't beat more than a hundred people that's true that's true. I don't know that there are more than one hundred professional wrestlers flers in the WWe cannon. Surely He thinks Oh God. Have you looked up there wicky in the eighties. They had some well. I mean at one time. Oh Oh at one time. Yeah I don't know I think overall yes and it was the wrong word We discussed that in the last clearly a little foggy and went cannon means. There's a fantastic fantastic line that really Sets the tone for all this. So let's let's she gained ten thousand horses defeated more than one hundred suitors In a book called that she caused a riot About a catoon Hannah jewel described the scene.

"Business call financial resource management here in Raleigh near the north hills shopping center areas, some people say where are you in Raleigh? So we're kind of inside the belt line a little bit there near north hills. And we just welcome you to our show which Sunday morning normally our show, Saturday two to three. But when Carolina plays ball, we're bumped to Sunday morning. Welcome to the show. Glad you catoon. Tune in today. We always start January first show with New Year's resolutions. And I think we should because want as you you told me walking into the studio that you always write your goals down. You're a goal oriented person you've done that for years, and I do the same thing. Sometimes I don't write them down. Sometimes I do write them down and resolutions are made to be broken. That's what most people do. But we we're pretty serious about these things because we think financial resolutions should never be broken. Because if you can get in the habit of doing the right thing with your money, you're gonna probably win. Well, and it doesn't mean to say I'm going to. Fun my retirement plan this year. Well, you you have to put some meat to that. Are you going to fund it five percent or ten percent? If you do that. It's it's real this to say I'm going to do that doesn't put any meat to it. Or I'm going to I'm going to look at my stuff this year. I'm going to look at it and make sure and then you keep putting the statements to the side, you know, so you have to just break it down a little by. So you can achieve like I said, I'm gonna charitably give more this year. And then I went. No, I'm going gonna give ten percent over and above what I'm giving. So if you say that then every time, you get paid or every time, you know, you look and go I gotta do this. I you know, 'cause I've committed to it. So I think it's putting meat to to it. As what might you need to is very important. I look this weekend. I looked at my last year's goals and accomplish most of them, and I was glad I wrote them down. And then every once in a while during the euro leave it laying on my office desk and home on purpose. So I'll stumble across if I put it away and a foul. I'll look at it. So that's another thing. Like, you said put me on it like your charitable is. Great. But even naming charity, maybe there's a charity. You just found you think it's wonderful. We'll make sure it's sitting in front of you when you're giving your checks, you're sitting checks, you know. So that you see it don't just don't just think about it. Yeah. Yeah. Thinking and doing things, so let's go down a few of them. And we'll go through these little by little and give you. You some ideas one of them is I think one of the most important things you could do. And especially if you're a young adult is pay yourself first. And what I like about that one is we put down ten percent is a goal. I think that's a great goal in the location of that is learn to live on ninety percent of your income and people go, oh, I could never do that. Yes. You can anybody can do that. And if you're a young twenty something a millennial is just in the job market now. Or maybe you're a parent of a millennial you to sit down with that twenty year old or twenty five year old or thirty year old and say learn to live on ninety percent of your income in and if you develop that habit, it's completely normal in the other ten percent goes to your future retirement or your current cash. Exactly. Those are two areas where you need to put money, right? And and too. I sometimes I'll meet with especially young couples. They don't know how much they're putting in every time replant, they don't know what the percentage is as opposed to their income. And I'm like, why are you maxing out? I think so. Well, these are things you got to know these things because you know, you might say, well, we'll the my employee matches up to five percent. But that doesn't mean you have to stop it that right? That means you can go up to the maximum. They're just not going to match it, which you're doing your own retirement plan. You shouldn't you shouldn't just look at what the employers doing for you. This is your life. Right. This is your plan for the feature then not going to be there. When you retire is its own you and the second thing in our is fund your retirement plan. So set aside ten percent for yourself and part of that is stunning retirement plan. This is an interesting you said that. I got a new client about seven eight years ago. And it was a lady who had been divorced. She had a nice job. She had a good income in one of the first thing she was referred to me actually heard me on the radio, but also referred. She the first one of her first goals was to pay less taxes. And I said, okay. So I looked at what her other adviser had done in his true. He had sold off some stuffed and created a lot of tax or capital gang. And I said, well, did you know you could sell these loser stocks here and wait thirty one days and buying back and take the right off? But she was like no way. Well, I met her after she has paid the tax. Yeah. She was shocked, and then I noticed she she showed me her Pasto is exactly what you said. I said are you maxing out your four zero three b plan at work? She went I don't know. Does.

"Weeknights on WGN TV welcome back to the start of showcase Scott catoon. Joining me in studio Thomas Ma and his partner on each sapphire apps. You can catch him apparently on Facebook page 'cause that's where we put our stuff now. Or? Yeah. Instagram is probably a good one. The the I g I don't know. Instagram's the place to be that's what they say. Is the place to be I don't I mean, I get it. I'm in. I'm on it. I just did not like the biggest Instagram like, I don't understand the scrolling and scrolling and looking at people's picture. But people respond believe it or not like if you people you're more likely to get a respondent like an Email, which is crazy. Yeah. Tell me a little bit of both. So we're gonna talk a little bit about your year and the company in general. But like, let's talk a little bit of social media marketing where that's all going, and I guess there's a couple of things we've got so much time potentially or not at all. We'll see what happens when they when the power is because. But there's some parts of this that I just think you're an interesting guests to have on because you represent in some regards. There is a you are the beginning. I think the tip of the spear if you will on the future business styles. You were talking about this before the show a little bit. And I think, you know, businesses not gonna change all in one fell swoop. And there's the traditional business styles. Still going to be around. My business is sort of a hybrid of traditional and nontraditional. We've got sort of a flat management style. But still talked inside of a big business investor portfolio. You talked about how you guys are growing, and how that sort of takes the takes on a different shape, and there's a newer type of business that's growing in your learning about new business models. And I think a lot of them are are developing as a result of social media and influencers and and things that we're not really services or products before. Yeah. Absolutely. Like in terms of like new business models. Like, however alluding to before the hybrid business model, I think it's super important now because like nowadays anyone can reach anyone when it comes through social media. So you don't really need a huge distribution team. You don't really need a huge cotton team. You could essentially cherry pick the best people from around the world, which requests like a slack message away. And then put them all together in one team. And then just like literally with ten to fifteen people you can make a killer company. So I guess in my mind, I think that's awesome. And that's been a challenge. So I'm gonna give you like old school thoughts on this because excuse me, because I love what you guys are doing as far as the way, you're growing. I love the way that companies are taking on this sort of. I don't wanna gig gig economy. It is in a sense because people can have multiple jobs are not tied to one thing. I'm a huge fan of the style. But I have this like old man problem where I love to be able to like sit down with my team. I want to be like all right guys. So here's the deal guys and girls were were equal. I want to be like listen Tuesday Wednesday Thursday is my time. That's the time that I'm running around flying around the office that I need you guys to be present in here. Local in front of me. And I just don't feel connected. And I don't trust the process when they're not in front of me. And then the other days of the week. I'll let them ride free, and that's sort of like maybe over time. I'll learn and I'll I'll be more comfortable. But like I in theory. I would love to grow on a team of people that like are just everywhere. Yeah. Absolutely. I mean. Now, having them there in person is like super crucial like for our business. Like, we look at like today, we were just talking to new employees in Chicago where we were on a Saturday between Christmas and new years..

I knew what it was. How do you know that we we we I'm Romanians though, we ran from communism. And I happen. He told me what it was. I think buke arrest is one of the most beautiful season the world. Yes. It is. I love it. Absolutely. Love it. I'd go. I wish we'd go every year. Cornell is that is that actually your name? I feel bad. I thought that was a known to plume or something. People can only. Get them to stay and then paid it. Right. It's like Cornell University. You sound black. You are. Your dad's Romanian Black? No, I'm I'm white a white. Oh, you're not black. He's on a bad cell. He got a funny name. He's of indeterminate race in his dad's from Romania that might be the call of the year. David. Yes, sir. You being very quiet in the background. I didn't want to interrupt our conversation. All right. We got one other guy on hold. Let's just get through him real quick you and me, and then we'll get back to your point. Okay. Okay. All right. Let's let's let's shoot step. You know? You called? David. That's the weirdest. Call this year. I don't know. I don't know about you. I get those all the time. How do you raise six million dollars? You'll have a big fundraiser. Well, we try. That's not always that's the goal. That's not always what we hit a lot of people leave signers hospital fries. Is this the world's greatest philanthropy because of the work we've been doing this knocking twenty two with our hospitals at first hospital. Shreveport, Louisiana, you don't sound. I'm not I'm about forty eight. Okay. I'm forty seven. But it'd be I'll be forty eight January. How'd you get the Shriners? Well, my father's a Mason and his father before him and sell. It was one of those things that just passed down the line and that happens quite often. Yeah. Yeah. Shriners is you know, as charity has always been an important part of watched on even in boy scouts. You know, the the motto deal good turn daily. I I think charity was a very important piece of what we should live with. And now, I don't know any organization that has treated. One and a half million children over the years and. We really didn't start just taking insurance still, you know, a few years back before that it was just all three. Sounds like y'all might need to rumble with Saint Jude's. I think well, see. Geez. It's awesome. By the way, by the way. Danny Thomas was Reiner. He was a Scottish, right? Yeah. That was cool. Could've kept him in the fold. We we weren't treating Joe we try to do what we do best. And that's orthopedics and burns and cancer is a whole new world and. Saint Jude's is a of hospital that treats those children with cancer. And that's a tough. That's a tough gig barns are very specialist to that's something that. You know, we have we're sitting in the largest medical center the world here in Houston and most those hospitals can't treat more than about a twenty percent Barnes. Once it gets over twenty percent. Twenty five percent, they they don't have the technology or the capability skill. So our hospital down in Galveston. We've got kids in there that are ninety percent Tyler, you know, it's he's he's a very burned at that point time most hospitals if they didn't get him the Shriners that'll lost him Utah. Yeah. All the time. Now, I had no I won't do that. How often over to the hospital walk the halls. Well, I'm in Houston hospital a lot, but the Galveston hospital. I don't get to go to as much as I like to. But we we do visit there every once in a while. But my primary my primary hallways the Houston hospital again the orthopedic hospital, but the so what what is it spina bifida like what what is the curvature of the spine the scoliosis scoliosis.

"Honora retain live here the AllState skyline studios and today we spent a couple more minutes on the road than we would have liked the traffic out there as I was listening to Bob Kessler. He was keeping me apprised of all the places to go and the places to avoid. So I appreciate his his his traffic his news in and his pacing as we got into this one. So a great show. We've got on tap for you today. Scott catoon did an amazing impression. And I think I am going to follow. You know, like Harry Carey there's guys who are Harry. Carey impressionists that really are kind of just doing their impression of will Ferrell doing Harry Carey, but it is really the actual Harry Carey what I think I'm going to follow. The Scott catoon version of me. I like the way that he did have the soft and kind of dulcet tones. So we'll try to keep that up as we get through the shell. We are going to have a nice little blend of things we're gonna have Scott paddock. And he's the president of Chicago at speedway route sixty six raceway for the super Chevy show coming up down there. It's coming up September sixteenth that is tomorrow. Right. So we'll get Scott on at some point for the end of the program today. We're going to have a lot of food. There are so many festivals out here, and it is the road trip destination for so many people around Chicago and not only that. But also the countries they fly in to participate in the full to market harvest fast, which is going on. We've got Chicago gourmet coming up. We're going to have Corey Morris. He is the resident champion forecast shown five five five. He'll be joining us a little bit later on the program. Right after that first break Tyler Florence. He travels the country in so many different roaches with great food truck rates got a new hit show on the food network bite club. They were here in Chicago recently, and he is traveling from city to city around the country with that we'll talk with him meathead in the service of not only a great grilling ribs barbecue all that kind of stuff is that a tailgate as we speak and he's going to break away for a little bit. We're going to join him but to thirty he's gonna come on and talk a little bit about amazing ribs dot com. The best site on the planet for all things. Not only tailgating certainly a lot of that. You'll get it. But also grilling barbecue. Tips and all sorts of things recipes as well. So stay tuned for that the twins are going to be joining us as well. They are in town and they're at Fulton market harvest fest as well the air a phenomenon right there, the twin horns of joy jazz players, but also kind of equal food stars in their own right there in town, exciting very fun to have them in with us as well. And Sonny Anderson is remember she was kind of missing in action, Emma, probably researching and developing that next great invention. She'll be joining us to talk tailgating as well. So we've got a lot we're gonna take a break. We'll come back Tyler Florence is going to be joining us. You know him you love him. Stay tuned for that on the road with Dane here on seven twenty WGN back..

"And then I think the only and even now to this day of I'm out mine mountain biking and I have to dab and get off the bike. I'll never get all never get on the bike on the right side. Really? Yep. I always even if I've got to get off, walk around the bike on a single track. Isn't that weird? And I catch myself doing, I'm like, what? What's up with that? It's not like, you know? No. I mean, it's just I just do. It's just habit and it's just more to look for that. Oh, there's old video of you in a race changing entire you would go around well in a race, maybe her you gotta get whatever you do, but the beginning of the day, if you have, if you're, you know, you're not in a hurry and you have a choice you get on. I got on the left side. The only other thing is is is we had a lot of Spanish on the team that that were very superstitious. So in the whole world knows how superstitious people get about salt. So you can't spill salt. And if you do, you have to throw handful over your shoulder, these Spanish guys, and we have maintained this tradition. My kids will tell you, we've maintained this tradition for twenty years plus they will never somebody says, hey, can you pass the salt j. b. might go, here's the, they would never pass the salt hand to hand salt always had to go on the table and then you could pick it up. And if I should always pass it with the pepper too. Connecticut thing. Always nobody on our team went to catoon. So. But we never pass the salt hand to hand in since then. I've never done it. Did any of your teammates have any super weird superstitions that you're like? Really. We had a lot of weird teammates. Some weirdness. Cool. Yeah. The questions calls. Put you on the spot. Now you're having to live up to Tori who could just go. Yeah, got more. Did you ever have a favorite type of bike that you ever road? So I dunno type of road biker, all, you know, all these bikes are different, even if they come out of the molds the same, something about them, whether it's the geometry or just the seat, all the way down to the seat is just different. So you always find a bike that you that you liked the most. And if we would ride, we'd have the Maine bike that we wrote a most stages than we had the light climbing bike. And then you had the time trial by there's always an adjustment when you go between the even even the the road bike in the climbing bike, although they look exactly the same, they're just different and so, but you always find one, that's your favorite and and. Highlight that one stick with that one. Did you ever save in a talented bike. No. Now sometimes people have like, are they go try to find the exact same by mocked up MAGS, Graham schwinn MAG scrambler. I had from the one of the first bikes ever bought from Richardson bike mart from. Richardson, Texas, and it was like a brownish MAG scrambler with yellow wheels and somebody. I think at some point, mocked it up tried to replicate your all bike..
