"It's all about the idea of one. Can you make the thing that you wanna make like. My my role as an advocate is often to show people. You know things that they can make using a different software different tools but often that means i'm making things myself and I i would say luckily for me most of my stuff that i make tends to go on the web have. I don't have to deal with this argument too much. But that said i mean it. It's a great time for developers because there are so many options of one of my favorites is there's a platform called rumps which is basically a way for you to write python and present the output in your menu bar which i know a friend of the show. Jason snell is doing a lot of work in that space and is known for some of the stuff of these been able to do with menu bar apps but again you know five years ago. That wouldn't have been an option you wouldn't be able to write you know python code and then put it up there and now exists. There is it. You know perfect but no but it's with you. I perfect also known as knows is perfect. Also know so. It's great that there are so many paths that can be taken. I think it's up to the you know the makers of the operating systems to one give everyone a fair shot. I think that's that's the hard part there is if if you want people to develop for your platform just again but that hundred mentality have the system. Get out of the way so that you can make the best possible application regardless of what platform that you're using I but that said i mean just like how omni focus is a very different app from things but they use some comparible technologies and then they're very different from something like to do know. They're all accomplishing a goal. But at the same time the way that they're going about it completely different. And i think the whole i guess the battles between should they be native apps or should they be abssador made with these other technologies. I think at end of the day it depends on what the the company's plans are. And what kind of their mindset. I don't think novas going to put out an electron apple. At least i don't think so at the moment not panic. No company change. I can't believe panic would ever do that. But you know who knows but either way it is an interesting time. And i'm really curious to see how it all shakes out. I suspect that With times with you is going to become much more stable and that's going to give developers and easy solution. But i don't know we'll find out either way. Jay was so nice having you on the show today Can you tell us where people can find you if they want to follow up with your podcast or some of the things you're working on so i have a website k. Cathy campbell And of course on twitter That's about it for me at twitter at k. J. a. y. miller and if you're into the development stuff in python or any language really just message me in the always love to have those conversations and figure out how. I can help people in whatever ways i can. Well jay thank you so much for coming on and sharing all your wisdom with us today. and also especially..

"Get things on kindle and there's there's there's there's there's a reason. I started with the sample. First of all doesn't make sense to buy a trigger me because first of all like why buy a book if you can't get through the sample like Showing the lie and you open something and you it defaults to justify and guess what the the area with pick your alignment preference is great out and if you look at it anything but even at the small sizes it still looks like homemade shit. And sometimes we're talking about rivers and orphans off final link for notes but you get to the last line of something in. It has two words with an inch of space between them. That's really bad justification. And why does it exist because someone wants to be fonsi and so they turn it on full justification. Fonsi we get something. That's just nice. It's fancy but like if it's really nice it's fonsi and so what do you totally unreadable to my mind. All the cues. You don't realize your brain needs to follow along. I'm not gonna turn on ruler and kindle. Really but i'm glad it's there not to yuck yum. I think it's the same thing here. This feels like something where they didn't. They didn't manually justify this text. I think some of them did though they took a bunch of files. Put it on a droplet. Dropped it onto something. And there's a basic i don't say algorithm. There's a basic script of based on the stereo separate. I'll bet you based on stereo separation and We're looking for like like audio range. It seems to just guess where stuff should go. And then somehow patrick wilson's wonderful drums at women in ten seconds dropout. Did you find some. You loved did you yes. We're talking about spatial audio and music for apple music okay. You explained a justification. Can you explain spatial audio. If for the two people who don't know about apple thin. I mean i can describe my perception of of spatial audio also when i want to send you a couple more. That's the other thing we gotta talk about the perception of what it is. I mean we don't have to but it's like how are you experienced anyway. A spatial audio merlin. Well okay so i that was introduced for initially just for airpods pro as far as i know the latest airpods pro is called spatial audio. And there's these various kinds of things. Like i think a straightforward one is a five point one system for music right where you've got like. Oh sorry jazz. Jazz bitch is going to interrupt you. Goes does work at on regular airpods as well. Because mattie was like what happened to apple music and i was like. Oh okay. oh yeah. We went around this with with The the explainer in chief. Yeah the summariser cheap. But i think the if you think about the way stereo works is like you. Mix it in a certain way so that you make decisions about what goes on left and right channels and then if you get my understanding of a five point one system is you've got a left and right in front and back and then i think one in the middle. That's usually for dialogue. But that's not something that's automatically justified. Somebody made decisions about what goes where and you know even on my very modest home system that involves homepods. It can be very cool. You get into something like adding those into something like so those kinds of things really make it sound a little bit like you're in the room and a crazy hat. I think with spatial audio which is depending on. What's in your ears right now. What you'll hear is you will get if you're looking at your iphone. You're looking at your ipad in past months or year. Whatever you really get a sense of the room in the way these tasks this and get feel like a weirdo and get neck. Pain is if you move if your head moves in Silicon when you're listening to it it does really sound like you're in a room like if you're watching something with You know a atmos or whatever the other surround sound like even on your dumb airpods. It's like wow. This is really clever. It does actually sound like it's coming from many directions and not an artificial way. It really feels like a room. Sounds like a room which sounds crazy. But like if you're like wow this is really neat and very immersive. It's the best a our consumer product ever made. It's just yeah. Yeah yeah the whole line. Especially because the thing john gruber pointed this out that when you're using transparency mode and this is about to get way cooler with with what's coming up in the beta but like transparency mode. So you've got a an explaining guy today. It's really insufferable. Well i will say if you want to hear up. I'm gonna plug it another slug list with a friend of the show. Cathy campbell. mrs soup on twitter z. Specifically talked about airpods. And i think you're going to talk about Conversation boost as well. Yes which. I can't figure out how to turn it on but i need to make it's in there. Yeah i'm going to. I plan to use leaving right now. If you turn on transparency mode as as chairman gruber said it is like an air experience because whether you could be listening to or not listening to music but there's some secret saw oo gross. I don't want that mayor But there's something happening with with the airpods pro. We're like it's so remarkable. How clear and this is before the conversation boost of this latest beta or future but like even if you just got it on transparency moat. It's wild you still had the social or cultural burden of like being a looking like an inattentive person. But like if you're going to be out. Say riding a scooter wireless in the mexican wine transparency. Mode can be good because you really do hear the stuff around you now. Do you consider that. A lightweight. Form of ar. Not a lightweight completely completely. It is it is like your. Your reality is being adjusting. i. I'm really gay bones for the fancy son. The wsh hem like at the fours the fours at home. I got the three at work and their tall rafic sounding headphones. Like i like when. I'm when i'm sitting around like i was listening to the new. The new Hardcore history the five hour episode about the end of world war two and the in asia as listening to that last night. It's got a mode. It's got a neat thing where you can cut you know about this. You can keep your hand over the right of the outside of the right one and it. It knows that that means turned into their version of transparency mode. Oh that is very cool does it. Does it works pretty well but with the airpods again like it's a little miraculous to me. I don't know how it works. But you know and so the downside has been if you wanna watch mad max fury road and get that effect you know. You have not been able to do that on anything but a modern ios device. I feel like with airpods rate so if we set it up and now god i don't even need my airfli- dingus anymore. If my kid. And i wanna watch something with fancy audio i wanna to impress her with this. We can build just share that now. That's great but you are watching on high pat and mike however big that is it's not quite the same as a sixty six inch. Tv but guess what is coming to cheat in there yet. it's not. I check my old apple. Tv for the beta. Oh goodness i should. Oh there's a reason you know what. I'm saying the duplicity Duplications have their privileges. The filling put on my watch. Never put on your one. Oh the beta. Well especially early betas. I would have never installed dev on my main phone and You know we're gonna we're gonna. We're going to address. It had on because we need it for our work. But underscored david smith is like he's he's he's spilling a seat upon the ground about what's going on watch us. He's very excited. All the complications complicated complications. He made some very complicated complications and he made immediately. You need some faces that are just us. Oh i'm so sorry merlin. I got. I need to take this. So sorry i'll be right back so so so sorry. Okay i'll play guitar. Let's see here. Okay this is my which bear not be in tune Jesus scott.
