"The world's biggest crypto exchange by far by spot volume is buying the second largest again by spot volume. Again, a lot of question marks here. We know that FTX was having some sort of liquidity event, both CEOs tweeted to that effect. We know that FTX was being hit by massive withdrawals. We do have a tweet from FTX CEO Sam bankman fried. He said that the assets will be covered one to one quote this is one of the main reasons we've asked binance to come in. Finance's acquisition of FTX will likely reshape the more than $1 trillion crypto market, it's one that's already dealing with a prolonged market downturn and the sell off in crypto tokens during the session wiped out more than 10% from the price of Bitcoin. Cathay Pacific airways, their board of directors at any rate, is planning to meet later today to vote on appointing a new CEO we are told longtime manager Ronald lam is set to succeed current CEO Augustus Tang, lamb's appointment is being backed by cafes largest shareholders, wire Pacific and air China now if lamb is appointed, the new CEO, he'll be tasked with leading the airline through its post pandemic recovery passenger traffic is still only 16% of pre COVID levels, cafe has said it will not return to 100% capacity until late 2024 or early 2025. Foreign investors pulled $8.8 billion from Chinese financial markets last month, this came as stock slumped, and this is according to estimates from the institute of international finance. The estimates resonate with local exchange data which showed how unpopular onshore financial instruments have become with foreign investors. COVID zero controls a housing crisis and geopolitical concerns as some of the factors that have contributed to the outflows. Coming up on 33 past the hours we crossed to Hong Kong for a look at market action Brian Curtis there, so you're looking at higher stocks. I think a weaker dollar and lower yields across the board, right? Yeah, that's the essence of it. You mentioned the sexy story of the day. That crypto story. That was quite interesting. Our colleague Matt Levine wrote that binance may have bought FTX dot com for the price of a Snickers bar. I thought that was pretty cool line and it reminds everybody of bear Stearns going down and being absorbed by JPMorgan for $2 a share, and that was less than 10% of the value of bear Stearns. So pretty interesting stuff. Also, Facebook parent met up said to be planning to begin job cuts on Wednesday. That's according to our own sources. Employees who are affected will be told from today and chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg spoke to executives yesterday to prepare them for the cuts. That was earlier according to a story in The Wall Street Journal. Anyway, back to the crypto story coinbase down 11%, Robinhood down 19%. So a lot of fallout. And even though equities finished higher in the U.S., there was a real rumbling because of this story. We also had money going into safety areas like treasuries and so yields down a little, yield on the ten year at 4.13% now, so up one basis point, interestingly, the yield on the three month treasury bill at auction today earlier today was at 4.12%. So virtually the same there and the yield on the two year here at 4.65%. WTI crew down $88 and 89 cents. And of course, Disney was another big story today, traded down more than 6% in after hours. Juliette and Doug back to you. Thanks for 34 minutes passing out time for global news

"Specialty formula I'm Brian shook And I Brian Curtis in Hong Kong Let's check this hour's top business stories and the markets The U.S. Federal Reserve has raised interest rates by 75 basis points The biggest increase since 1994 Here's fed chief J Powell after the decision Contrary to expectations inflation again surprised to the upside indicators some indicators of inflation expectations have risen and projections of this year have moved up notably So we thought that strong action was warranted at this meeting and today we delivered that Pal said another 75 or 50 basis point move was likely at the fed's July meeting However he does not expect moves of this size to be common Meantime the ECB is promising a new tool to curb market stress it's a response to a big jump in Euro area bond yields and it prompted an emergency meeting where the ECB said the pandemic has left Euro area vulnerabilities and that more action would be needed Twitter has canceled a company-wide retreat to Disneyland in 2023 The company says cuts in corporate travel led to the cancellation The gathering known as one team was last held in early 2020 before the pandemic forced employees to work remotely Cathay Pacific airways the Hong Kong carrier plans to recruit 4000 staff between now and the end of 2023 CEO Augustus tank said the carrier needs to replenish its workforce ahead of an anticipated recovery in air travel Cathy's plan marks a turnaround in the airlines outlook after some three years of turmoil and much cost cutting All right let's check the markets briefly the anxiety index is slightly lower down half percent But the nikkei is rallied 1.6% in Asia and the Cosby is up 1.3% Dollar yen one 34 53 Global news 24 hours a day live and at Bloomberg quick take brought to you by 2700 journalists and analysts in a 120 countries This is Bloomberg This is Bloomberg law with June grosso from Bloomberg radio This week the Supreme Court.

"Here in Hong Kong and in Singapore It is a 6 80 p.m. on Wall Street and Rashad salad And I Brian Curtis also in Hong Kong along with rich trading is an hour and a half away in Sydney Tokyo and Seoul and three hours later we'll get Hong Kong and Shanghai trading It's really kind of interesting here with equity futures in Asia up right across the board Pretty surprising We did have pretty solid rally in Europe and also on Wall Street So there's definitely some animal spirits there the mood to buy We get to some of the reasons for that with Doug Krishna in a few moments For now let's take a look at some of the top stories for shot Yep bath for the reserve raising interest rates by 75 basis points That's the biggest increase since 1994 Here is a pal after that decision Contrary to expectations inflation again surprised to the upside indicators some indicators of inflation expectations have risen and projections of this year have moved up notably So we thought that the strong action was warranted at this meeting and today we delivered that Palestinian and another 75 O 50 basis point move was likely at fed's July meeting However it does not expect the moves of this size to be common The FMC also cut its 2022 GDP outlook saying unemployment could rise however power also said he saw no sign of a broader economic slowdown Meantime the ECB is promising a new tool to curb market stress It's a response to unwarranted jumps in Euro area bond yields so some would say unwarranted At one point Italian bond yields breached 4% a level last seen during the turmoil back in 2014 It prompted an emergency meeting where the ECB said the pandemic has left Euro area vulnerabilities and that more action would be needed A timetable for a new tool is on clear though Last week the ECB pledged to stop bond purchases July 1st and then deliver a rate hike later in the month The ECB is also expected to hike in September Moving to cathay Pacific airways planning to recruit some 4000 staff between now and the end of next year CEO Augustus Tang said that the carrier needs to replenish its workforce ahead of an anticipated recovery in air travel Cafe planning plans are the Catholic plan I should say marked a turnaround in the airlines outlook after three years of turmoil and cost cutting However the hiring spree would still leave cafe short of a pre COVID levels Cathay's workforce has shrunk by about 40% during the pandemic So two days ago it was compass yesterday was coinbase and now Spotify talking about hiring and that it will slow hiring growth by 25% The on demand audio service said that it would continue to add headcount in the coming months but it will adjust its plans in light of macroeconomic factors It's the latest sign of how rising interest rates have led to rising concerns in the corporate world The S&P 500 is down still down more than 20% this year But Spotify shares have declined more than 50% so far this year Okay let's have a look at the prospects of the Asian trading day and get it over to Bloomberg's Doug Kris and certainly there's anyone game in town really though Well yeah it's the fed the rate story with U.S. yields moving lower across the curve but look at the dollar issue of the Bloomberg dollar spot index today was down 9 tenths of 1% that set us up for a rally in the end which strengthened against the greenback by 1.3% in New York trading and we had a similar rally for the offshore Chinese currency picking up about 1.3% against the dollar So you've unpacked it pretty well The fed delivered that 75 basis point rate hike The intent very clear let's crush inflation but the warning I think is what the market seized on And when I say warning it's Powell saying don't expect 75 basis points to be common but the force of the move can not be denied Do you remember when the conversation around fed tightening focused on the front loading of rates Well that's to say be aggressive now and see how inflation were to behave and the economy overall Market seemed to seize on that and we had somewhat of a relief rally not only in the equity market but in the bond market as well where the yield on the two year was down 23 basis points today We were last quoted in New York at around three 19 so that's where the action will begin in Tokyo and about an hour and 25 minutes from now In terms of equity market price section we had the Dow rising 1% the S&P 500 Picking up about one and a half percent today using the function on the Bloomberg terminal you can see that it's clearly consumer discretionary Communication services and real estate shares out in front of that advance then if you look at the NASDAQ composite we were up to date by two and a half percent In terms of what we're seeing right now on futures for the nikkei 26,730 that's the Chicago contract which is about 400 points above where in cash yesterday in Japan We'll take another look at market action for you in about 15 minutes rich All right indeed And we're going to have a look now at some of those stories which are making.

"And emergency department at Boston. At that time, I was really starting to feel the pain which, in some ways, was good. I was to learn that full thickness burns don't hurt very much as the nerve endings will have been destroyed, whereas second degree burns are bloody painful. It didn't take long for Boston to realize that I'd need a specialist burns unit, which meant a long ambulance journey across the country. By now I had reached the limit of whatever they were injecting me with and the thought of ours in an ambulance bouncing across the countryside filled me with dread. My boss had arrived, and asked if he could do anything. I made a plea, and he spun on his heel, reaching for a telephone. Within minutes I was being wheeled out to a great, big, bright, yellow RAF search and rescue seeking helicopter, the nicest helicopter, I'd ever seen. 30 minutes later we had landed in a football field, where the Saturday game had been halted by a dozen or so policemen, and a landing zone coordinated off, and before I realized it, I was in the antiseptic cool calm of the burns unit. I won't go into all the gory detail of skin grafts, drag induced hallucinations, drinking vast, high calorie shakes, growing skin, takes a lot of energy apparently, and all the hassle, my poor wife had to go through with a newborn and a husband, hours away in hospital. I was something of an oddity there, as most patients were old folks or young children, ever think about that. And I healed quickly. After a few months I got back home and my proudest achievement was to push our new baby round the married patch in a pram, about all I could manage at the time. My fight to get back to fitness was boosted by some fabulous news. My posting had arrived. If I could get the doctors to sign me off that I was going to get an exchange tour in Australia, flying the FAA. Now the real battle began. I had a target and a deadline to achieve. I set myself a light in June and the posting was in November. By September I'd got myself back into the phantom. First in the rear seat, and then in the front seat with an old friend, the boss of the QI course. I was still bandaged up, and would wear compression bandages for a couple of years, but could move okay. And more importantly, there was no leaking, under G three different dual checks, and I could captain the aircraft again with a brave nav in the back. I passed a phantom competency to instruct check ride, and then flew a couple of months for the OCU teaching navs coming through one short courses. By complete coincidence I flew with the very laid back and de cook, who was in my backseat teaching me on one of my very first operational training trips on 43 squadron back in 78. Now a squadron leader, and he was doing a refresher course before returning to the front line after a ground. R two V one combat trip would be the last phantom flight I would ever fly. I had 1111 hours. But it was time to move on, or should I say, move halfway around the world. For a reason I couldn't find them. The RAF couldn't afford a proper removals firm to help. So I had to scrounge packing cases from stores, whilst jilly went round the married patch, begging for newspapers to wrap everything up in. Before long we had a pile of huge boxes ready for a low loader to pick up. From there it would go to the docks and into a container for the three months journey to Australia. In the meantime, we had to live with whatever we could fit into a few suitcases. We were traveling light. With only a few days left, we scrubbed our quarter clean and then watched the family's officer, white per finger around everything on the march out. We had flogged the car and my beloved motorbike, so now it was trains and buses to find the transport base who would fly us out to Hong Kong. The RAS version of a hotel room left a little to be desired, so we didn't get much sleep, but the next day we were bundled onto a VC ten for the first stage of our journey. A trooping flight in our military aircraft is a bit like Ryanair on steroids, as you board, a small cardboard box is thrust into your hands with rations for the 12 hour journey. Crisps, packet of one, sandwich, salmon paste, one apple, Cox's pippin, one, chocolate, biscuit, penguin one. Drinks box with attached straw one. If you want entertainment, you better bring it yourself, particularly for your crawling baby, or everyone else was going to spend the whole flight glaring at you. And don't be the most senior officer on the flight, or you'll be lumbered with the role of dealing with any problems amongst the hundred or so other ranks. And filling out the reams of paperwork required. Hong Kong was just as we imagined heart and humid. We had a week or so spare so had contacted several of our air force mates who now lived there flying for cathay Pacific airways. This was in the days that cathay pilots were the best paid in the world, with more perks than you could shake a stick at. They always flew first class, their joining bonus was more than enough for a new BMW sports car and a brightling watch. They lived in fine hotels during training, had generous schooling medical and housing allowances place a travel fund that they could use to holiday around the world. We reveled in the exotic aromas for the place, the noise, the bustle, the food, our sun, however, had decided that jet lag was best.

"On Wednesday, Emirates announced it would halt flights to several American cities due to quote operational concerns associated with the planned deployment of 5G mobile network services in the U.S. at certain airports. It said it would continue flights to Los Angeles, New York, and Washington. Of particular concern, though appears to be the Boeing 7 7 7 Emirates only flies that model and the Airbus A380 jumbo jet. Japan's all nip airways said that the FAA quote has indicated that rate of waves from the 5G wireless service may interfere with aircraft altimeters. Japan airlines similarly said that it had been informed of that 5G signals quote, may interfere with the radio altimeter installed on the Boeing 7 7 7. It said, it will stop using the model in the continental U.S. for now, 8 of its flights were affected Wednesday, three passenger trips and 5 four cargo, Taiwan's EVA air also said the FAA specifically said 7 7 7s may be affected, but it did not spell out how it would adjust its schedule. But Air France said it planned to continue flying its Boeing 7 7 7s into American airports. It did not explain why it didn't change its aircraft as many other carriers have. Air India also announced on Twitter, it would cancel flights to Chicago, Newark, New York, and San Francisco, because of the 5G issue, Korean air, Hong Kong's cathay Pacific, and Australian airlines said they substituted different planes for flights that were scheduled to use 7 7 7s. Korean air spokeswoman Jill Chung said, the airline was also avoiding operating some kinds of 7 47s had affected airports. Germany's Lufthansa also swapped out one kind of 747 for another on some U.S. bound flights and British Airways canceled several planned U.S. bound Boeing 7 7 7 flights and changed aircraft on others. Let's do a quick crypto news sort of omnibus, a grab.

"In 15 minutes Let's get an update on global news Denise Pellegrini is in the Bloomberg newsroom Denise Well Doug China is dealing with some of the highest COVID levels in months and one Chinese health official says this winter surge in illness could be worse than last year Meantime China's COVID czar says strict COVID measures are there to stay Tens of thousands of universities students are currently in lockdown in northeast China this hour because of COVID outbreaks in the region President Biden and China's leader Xi Jinping will be meeting virtually Monday night Washington time Taiwan could end up being a big topic The two countries though also cooperated at cup 26 on the environment so that could help ease the conversation issue a little bit negotiators from almost 200 countries clinched a breakthrough climate deal in Glasgow Scotland And possible progress on President Biden's massive build back better spending deal Brian dies head of the national economic council saying the house will pass Biden's massive spending plan this coming week and send it to the Senate Global news 24 hours day on aired on Bloomberg quicktake powered by more than 2700 journalists and analysts in more than a 120 countries I'm Denise Pellegrini in the Bloomberg newsroom right All right Denise thank you very much We've got Eric Balfour's coming up from Bloomberg intelligence He'll be looking at action in the world of ETFs some interesting ones there anti woke ETFs And this one which is an interesting tease cheap or shiny has replaced active or passive in the fun selection process I think you do have to be fellini to be able to understand what that's all about but are we'll explain he's coming up Time now for the daybreak Asia media and tea leaves review in Asia policy is often rolled out first through the official media so we take a look at some of these stories Let me go outside Asia first for this story Well it's the magazine The Economist and it's very much a Hong Kong and China story The Economist is saying that Hong Kong immigration authorities have declined to renew the work Visa of one of its journalists who Lin Wong I'll call immigration said it would not comment on individual cases From the SAP and others cathay Pacific as tightened crew restrictions after a pilot arriving in Hong Kong from Frankfurt tested positive for the virus COVID-19 it led to a lockdown of his residential estate and on top of that the airline said that all cabin crew who passed through the Frankfort in November All of them would need to quarantine at a government facility for 21 days From the post as well China's crackdown on education and prop and property have left the wealthy in the country in crisis mode and some of them are looking for an escape route The common prosperity drive by Beijing calls for citizens to share the wealth But attitudes toward some of these recent and pretty dramatic changes have really diverged among different social classes and ages and apparently some are looking to get out And I've got one more from the global times here dalian of course a major port up in leonin province in northeast China It's facing its third cold chain related COVID-19 outbreak in recent days importers told the paper that they are facing strengthened quarantine rules that could drive up costs could drive up the cost of imported goods and have to look at the media Steve All right well we're getting some reading on the Japanese economy and it's worse than expected in the third quarter third quarter GDP year over year was down 3% on an annualized basis The estimate was for a fall of 0.7% So a much uglier reading for third quarter GDP Japan the Central Bank has talked about the supply chain constraints obviously hurting exports There's been COVID emerged states of emergency in Japan so this is an economy still Struggling obviously while the rest of the world is dealing with inflation they've been dealing with deflation All right we'll have more on that throughout the morning Our next guest is Eric Baldwin senior ETF analyst for Bloomberg intelligence to discuss everything the latest of exchange traded funds Eric good morning good evening to you Obviously we've been talking inflation How are ETF investors dealing with this so called inflation chalk Yeah I mean it was a big yawn to be honest If you look at the flows there really wasn't anything significant A little bit out of spy but overall in the past week there's been 19 billion into ETFs and much of that into equity ETFs even high yield all the risk on type ETFs even long dated treasuries You know I have a theory about the inflation issue is that I think even though the print was high and that means that the fed would might be obliged to raise rates which would then potentially hurt growthy names You'd think there would be an instant sell off in some of those aims and ETFs But I think beyond all that people think well even if it does sell off the fed will come in and bail the market out again like they did in March So what's the point of even selling now And so I think there's this the market's kind of anesthetized by the Central Bank stepping in and being so dovish over these past ten years in particular in March and since that I don't even think they're reacting because they're pretty numb That said there has been a lot of flows into ETFs that are inflation protected bonds And also into equities that are tracking names that are sensitive to inflation So we looked at this any ETF with the word inflation in it has taken and flows this year So it's definitely something that people are looking at the rotating But they're not really selling out of anything in some sort of panic Yeah Well I teased your teas and so let's run through it now Cheap or shiny replaces active or passive What on earth are you talking about Yeah I appreciate the fellini reference I've actually seen 8 and a half when I was in college I didn't understand it but it stayed with me And so I could take it as a compliment Mentioned this week It's not as obvious as the train going into the tunnel you know A lot of symbolism in that movie Anyway so yeah look cheap and shiny If you talk to advisers and you look at the flows you know it used to be if a fund was active advisers just wouldn't touch it They just were real into passive but there's been a shift There's been a lot of funds that are active taking in money this year And we really study this The thing is though it's not traditional active where you hire a large cap blend manager that charges 80 basis points and tries to pick stocks and largely looks like the index that is not selling But if you're really extremely active like a Cathy wood or the blockchain ETF which is active people will buy it And if you're really cheap like some DFA and JPMorgan active ETFs people will look at those and there's been flows into those So we've started to divide the whole ecosystem into cheap and shiny And if you look cheap and cheap has taken in 617 billion over the past three years and shiny which is defined as having a standard deviation 50% over the S&P has taken in about a 110 billion The middle things that are neither of those has taken in only about 70 billion.

"Y- on the the any of the weather information other whether in rainy yeah like badly before the incident afterwards and like all day long. It's been raining quite a bit. Do you have any information about the The the runway surface. Is it a grooved or give me just a friction overlay or anything like that. That may have helped. yeah good. Asphalt is just asphalt so probably not grooved. It's a it's a regional airport thirty five hundred feet right. Probably not likely that would have anything helpful like that. I wouldn't think so so. I'm guessing wrong but i don't think sounds to me like Good possibility here that there was some major hydroplaning going on potentially and believed that the winds were generally out of the south and they were landing to the northeast so there may have been a little bit of a tailwind component as well Let's see there was another on this third let's see. I'm looking for a quote a from another passenger. Yeah i can't find it anyway. Yeah so Not good of course. They're gonna be doing their investigation to what the probable cause is but it certainly sounds like without further information that Just bad weather or a little bit of tailwind may be very wet. Runway airplane was not slowing down and the pilot went ahead and basically initiated ago around one they determined or he or she determined that they couldn't stop and as we've talked about here that's not really the best idea and they end up hit hitting us some trees and crashing so yeah so that all sounds very plausible to me. Yeah we'll see we will see for sure okay. Did you show any of those overlays. I wasn't looking at the okay. Thank you Let's move onto this next item. Cathay pacific to close the london pilot base and review Other or to review united states paces. This is from reuters and Starts by saying hong kong's cathay pacific airways ltd will close. Its london pilot base review. The last remaining overseas bases in the united states The closure comes after cathay put the london-based under review in july and shut basis in australia new zealand canada and germany this year and a bed to focus operations in hong kong where pilots have taken permanent pay cuts to retain jobs the london based pilots. Many of whom had not been flying since april. Twenty twenty will be offered a redundancy or the opportunity to move to hong kong. Cathy said in a statement. The decision is not one. We've taken lightly and does not reflect on the professionalism of the pilots based in london. The airline added Cathay said that it would review its us. Bases later in the year has the third time. We've heard that that's declined to say how many jobs were affected in june. Kathy resume recruiting pilots with hong kong residency rights as part of its medium to long-term planning even though much of its sleet has been parked. Because of the pandemic july it reported the fall of ninety. Eight point four percent in passenger numbers from this founding. Yeah i guess oh no. Twenty twenty from owning twenty nineteen or. Maybe it was this july corresponding to doesn't really say way. It's probably accurate. So i guess we can safely say a huge drop in pal numbers Let's see attributing the drop too tight border controls but it's air cargo. Business has performed better than before the pandemic. Now we have somebody near and dear to the ab g One of our roving correspondents We of course referring to the wonderful nigel demery and he has some experience With the company cathay pacific having flown for them for a number of years and so Let's hear what nigel has to say about this. Hello a pg crew and community especially mica the main men this is home co nacho. The riches news articles says it all really and the outcome is much as i outlined six months ago in. Ap g. for sixty two. Hey stay with us. You can listen to that later. Cafe pacific airways is still in a dire position lost one billion. Us dollars in the first six months of this year. The share priciest two thirds of what it was when i joined the airline in nineteen eighty eight some latino thirty three years ago please don't ask what the relative value of my personal shares are worth dot trouble with cafes it's got no domestic market what actually see. Hong kong has got no domestic market. Unlike the usa for example cathay for six months carried only five percent of the passengers that they'd carried pre pandemic flights to and from china. Okay but the main problems are that international travel restrictions in quarantine still very limiting for example. I'm double vaccinated living here in the uk. And if i took a passenger flight back to hong kong. I'd have to spend three weeks in quarantine who wants to do that. The crew who so and this is a big limitation generally have to spend two weeks in quarantine if they fly with other passengers. Another problem of the low vaccination rate in hong kong any fifty percent of the hong kong. Chinese gun often got themselves fully vaccinated. That means they're still tight. Seychelle distancing rules and Although they currently do have low case numbers after their third wave last winter. Hong kong is still very restricted. Looking at of my friends who are on the bang triple seven still pilots in hong kong. Which actually would be the same. If the k. basis operating on average they haven't flown triple seven of the lost fourteen months. Big problem for cathay freights pretty positive. However it's still only half the level it was prepaid endemic another downside. The navy saw is that trained one hundred ten captains over to the bowling to do the freighter and about eighty of them quit or they being laid off or they some of the base pilot. The reuters news article talks about so they've lost eighty out of one hundred. Ten captains from the bullet. Point of view is much point him returning hong kong. If you're on a base you've always needed expedite lances if you're somebody like me. Hong kong in twenty twenty one was the second most expensive city for an expert to live in the world. By the way it was beaten by ashkhabad. Which is in turkmenistan. which. I can't even pronounce. Housing for example is sieber expensive funeral even a half decent place. It super super expensive. You gotta put your kids into international.

"So it's been kind of not what we of your generally expected but he has rented a plane before taking the up privately and that was super fun experience. He he's great at what he does so hopefully when things are normal again if we ever even know what that means or what that looks like hopefully travel open back he and i can explore a little more so my readies with cathay pacific so key is a right now with cova kind of throwing a wrench and a game plan. He is actually training air force. Silence right now in colorado which is really neat super cool but he is a cadet for sky west airlines as well so so dabbled in military contracting in walking onto the airlines. So super proud oven. That's kind of what brought us out here to colorado. Was sky west so excited to be out here in the west in experiences beautiful weather i like talking a little bit about funds stuff because my podcast is we talk about some dark topics and to at least have some. Have some fun in there. Sure set the darkness. I'm said Let's dive into into your background Let's talk about your upbringing. I now. I'm ed came from many fundamentalist baptist background now years was southern baptist. Right yes so. It's very it parallels fundamentalism. A good bit so i grew up in georgia which is essentially capital of the bible belt. I say that's where the brass was made. Four the belt of the bible in the south. It's it's a very brick and mortar church culture. Oftentimes it is what you see on tv where your grandmother goes there. Your great grandmother went there. The preachers. likely your your uncle so it was. I grew up in that sort of culture. Where half of the congregation was blood related in the it was. It was a very strict culture. We had one pastor who stepped in. I guess when i was around twelve or thirteen and he quickly turned away from scripture. He he was smart about it was using scripture to push his own rather than letting scripture speak truth and so southern baptists. I don't even know if that's what you would call it all. I'll be honest after. I stepped away from the church after about seven or eight years sitting under i heard lots of people from the outside looking in describe it as a cult point like it. Big edit become very manipulative but it was. It was sneaky and i think that's why people call it a colt is. You're putting bible verses out there and so people just start nodding their head because you think oh the guy behind the voltages just quoted david. He knows what he's talking about. And the next thing you know or the next thing. I knew i was almost afraid of god. I loved him because i was told to love him. But i was scared to like god. If that makes any sort of sense like love felt like the obligation but i felt like i couldn't follow through with liking him like he didn't seem like someone i would get coffee with if he was on earth today and like i said i sat under that for a long time and so that was my my childhood growing up in church and i was also a christian school kid and i went to a very strict christian school and so it was just rule after rule after rule.

Struggling Airlines Confront Long-Haul Crew Taboo

"Up from reuters. Struggling airline's confront long-haul crew tabu. That's a kind of a great it. Serve a rhyming. Article title Max t what's this all about. It's about money as are many of the things that we talk about related to Changes at the airlines This is not putting the You know the the dime pay for the bathroom You know thing that we've talked about the airplane. They're talking about something bigger and more important. The pilots article starts out. Do long-haul pilots really need to pilots at the controls. All the time which i'm sure airplane management is going. Heck no. I mean think how much money we could save so Reuters has reported that Airbus in hong kong carrier cathay pacific are working a system to allow just one pilot on the flight deck. When at cruise altitude on long-haul flights currently long-haul flights have three or four pilots Usually two in the cabin in two resting at any given time. And i guess what they're saying is why have two in the cabin. When you're sitting up there at flight level. Three six zero possibly could go wrong. Airbus has something they called project. Connect and under that Effort they hope to certify the eighth three fifty for these single pilot operations again doing high-altitude cruise. When you read the article i. It sounds like they're being very careful about proceeding with this and being very careful about making too many commitments to the concept for a lot of reasons. I think mike. Did you get that kind of sense. And looking at this. They are being very very careful about it. And you know the whole concept of do they need to pilots at the controls at the all the all the time and the answer is obviously no. They only need to pilots. When there's an emergency

"Wearing masks on board. If you are a premium of first class passenger and you are reclined in your seat, or your link flattened, whether flat bed seats, Mike you will not be required to wear your mask. This is departure from airlines policy for you know, sometime around the world. On the mast side of things, but we'll see if any other airline copies this work if they are chained into returning to the policy, But Cathay Pacific says no masks. Those that are gonna be in first class and reclining to sleep. Well, they'll be shamed into it because the first class people paid more for the ticket. So therefore it's a sin. They have more money, and therefore the rich people don't have the word. The mask and the hoi polloi in the back are forced to their Ugo and I'm sure that's gonna be the narrative for sure. My friend. Yeah. All right. I'm thrilled to see this. Allegiant, announcing a nonstop CVG to Key West kicks off June 9th and announced to yesterday It's going to Cincinnati nonstop to key West twice a week. Beginning I think a June 9th is when it kicks off some of the fares. $59 each way and Mike this marks the 21st non sub destination of Allegiant ever. CVG. They have come to town, and they have just continued to expand, And that's because they continue to be supportive. And certainly I hope this latest one will be a Exactly like all the others, where they will see some strong advance bookings and maybe give us a few more than just two flights a week. Offhand, if key West is known to have a shorter than average runway because I've heard that and they certainly do hit the brakes when you land there they do. I don't have the exact length number memorized. But I tell you after being devastated a few years ago with the hurricane that came through at the damage is still evident, and they're still in the process. If you believe it of rebuilding, so any additional tourism dollars that could be headed in that direction is certainly great news and Bled. CVG is could be a part of that. And like most of the stations I talked to around the country, they have airports. They're cutting flights, reducing service so per Cincinnati to continue to expand the special on the leisure side. In France it employs nearly two hundred thousand people and the city of to lose him. The South West where Airbus has, its headquarters is massively dependent on this industry and the theories, the with aircraft production having. Lvmh said figuring it's cosmetics division to only produce mass quantities of Hydro Alcoholic Gel in order to give it to French health authorities. More people have now died from the corona virus outside of China than have died inside China since the disease. I emerged airline Cathay. Pacific is adding flights from US cities and London to Hong Kong because since the disease seems to be relatively under control in Hong Kong at the moment some people are seeing Hong Kong as a safe haven and are rushing to travel there a mere seven weeks ago. Hong Kong had implemented travel restrictions because of its proximity to mainland China. Italy reported three hundred sixty eight deaths in a single day yesterday. A twenty five percent increase making this the deadliest twenty four hour period thus far worse than the deadliest day in Wuhan's outbreak. Italy has reported two hundred deaths for each of the last three days. Italy only had its first. Colonel Related Death three weeks ago now. More than eighteen hundred people have died because of overloaded hospitals. The fatality rate and Lamberti is nine percent in the rest of Italy. The fatality rate is five point one percent Spanish health authorities reported two thousand New Corona virus cases in twenty four hours on Sunday bringing the total in the country of Spain to eight thousand cases with two hundred eighty eight deaths as the number of people who have died of the virus more than doubled in twenty four hours as the Spanish death. Toll was up from one hundred thirty six a day earlier. That is an increase of almost one hundred percent. Spain is clearly on. The Italian trajectory is France. Next it certainly seems to be going that way quoting the New York Times. France announced the closing of all non indispensable businesses including restaurants bars and movie theaters after a sharp uptick in corona virus cases. The number of French cases past five thousand four hundred twenty on Sunday with one hundred and twenty seven deaths on Saturday. Three hundred corona virus patients were in critical condition half of them under sixty years of age on Sunday. Francis Transportation Minister said the country would begin reducing plane train and bus services between cities and quote. I'd like to end the segment with some potentially good news from Italy Adrenal Aguzzi. A professor of neuro pathology and Switzerland just north of the troubled Italian region of Lombardy tweeted a chart this weekend that showed that even with the surge in deaths in Italy over the last few days the death rate is deviating ever so slightly from exponential growth. It's early days. But the lockdown might be beginning to work linked to the chart. I'm referencing in the show. Notes and Chen He wa. The European Bureau chief for China Daily tweeted this quote. Just read that Chinese medical team sent to Italy to fight Kovic nineteen comprises mostly experienced doctors from Sichuan Sichuan folks still remember how an Italian rescue team during the devastating. Two Thousand Eight Wenchuan earthquake saved many lives. The world needs more of US helping each other and quote. There has been a lot of justified. I think hand-wringing about the scenes of people going to bars and restaurants even to Disney world. This weekend seemingly unworried about anything that is going on. This is obviously a problem for one. Big reason potential transmission from people who might not know they already have the disease indeed. There is increasing evidence that it is young people people without symptoms that might be the key driver of the spread of Corona Virus. Even more so than we realized quoting. Cnn New Studies in several countries and a large corona virus outbreak in Massachusetts Bring into question reassuring assertions by US officials about the way the novel virus spreads it appears that a Massachusetts Corona virus cluster. With at least eighty two cases was started by people who are not yet showing symptoms and more than a half dozen studies have shown that people without symptoms are causing substantial amounts of infection several experts interviewed by CNN. Said while it's unclear. Exactly what percentage of the transmission in the outbreak is fueled by people who are obviously sick versus those who have no symptoms or very mild symptoms? It is becoming clear that transmission by people who are as symptomatic or mildly symptomatic is responsible for more transmission than previously thought and quote. Indeed scientists seem to be coming to the conclusion that this is what makes corona virus so insidious it can spread far before it even sickens both mergers and SARS tend to be only spread by symptomatic people. But if you get cova did you might have spread it to fifty other people before you even know it. Add to that what we've previously discussed about how scientists suspect that you're more contagious earlier. On in the disease in a study of twenty four passengers who had just flown from Israel seven tested positive for corona virus of which four had no symptoms and the viral load of specimens from a symptomatic patients was higher than from the three patients. Who had symptoms thus the global move toward social distancing? Stay home stay out of large crowds status small crowds. There's a link to chart in the show notes that shows the difference between two towns in Italy. The two are Bergamo and loyalty. Loyalty actually had the first cove in nineteen case reported before Bergamo reported. Its first but Loki. Shut down their town February. Twenty Third Burgum. Oh waited until almost a week later by March thirteenth lucky only had around a thousand cases of corona virus and those case numbers seem to be leveling out while Burgum oh has seen case numbers shoot up to two thousand five hundred and young people. I'm talking to you. Data from South Korea where they test everyone they can is suggesting that. Thirty percent of the carriers in that country where aged twenty to twenty nine. If that's not enough to convince you let me point you to an actual animation. It is literally just balls. Dancing around and environment randomly representing infections over time. Look at what happens to the infection curve when only a quarter of a population continues to circulate and three quarters of a population practice social distancing. The infection rate is significantly slowed and with extensive distancing with seven eighths of a population staying home. The infection curve is stopped almost in its tracks. These are powerful animations but they are only animations only simulations made to educate on a concept. The concept is however. This is joke. If you can stay home let me quote. The last paragraph from the story accompanying the simulation quote in one crucial respect. These simulations are nothing like reality. Unlike simulations cove nineteen can kill though. The fatality rate is not precisely known. It is clear that the elderly members of our community are most at risk from dying from covered. One thousand nine hundred quote if you want this to be more realistic. A scientist was quoted after seeing a preview of the story some of the DOTS should disappear and quote link to the simulation is of course in the show. Notes questions are being raised as to whether or not more of US should be wearing face masks. Even if we're not showing signs of corona virus infection authorities in China already mandate the wearing of masks in all public places whether or not people are sick or healthy quoting from ink stone since late January Chinese authorities and major cities have enforced rules on wearing face masks in public spaces including detaining. Those who tried to use public transport without a mask and quote in South Korea and Japan is also required. That mask be worn by healthy people in crowded places but in much of the rest of the world including here in the US. It's advised that only people displaying symptoms should wear masks as just mentioned the possibility that corona virus can be spread by a symptomatic. People is causing some to argue for more widespread use of masks quoting again from ink stone. A symptomatic transmission has been reported in multiple countries in which a spreader is responsible for sickening others without knowing it in January at cluster. Thirteen infections was believed to have started with a British man who contracted the virus during a trip to Singapore and spread it to others on a skiing trip in the French Alps and back home in the United Kingdom all the while showing no signs of infection himself quote researchers writing in the Lancet suggested that in light of this current national advice may need updating to deal specifically with Ron Virus quoting from the peace. If everyone puts on a mask in public spaces it would help to remove stigmatization that has hitherto discouraged masking of symptomatic patients in many places. Furthermore transmission from asymmetric infected individuals has been documented for Kobe. Nineteen and viral load is particularly high at early disease. Stage masking as a public health intervention would probably intercept the transmission link and prevent these apparently healthy infectious sources and quote. All of that said as of right now. The advice remains to only wear a mask if you are displaying symptoms helping to conserve the mask as a resource masks are in short supply and are needed for medical practitioners. Who them more than the rest of us. In order to safely treat people not get sick themselves and thus stay on the job. A new study has revealed the length of time that Kobe nineteen can remain viable on common surfaces. The study so new that it is yet to be. Peer reviewed found that Corona virus was most stable on plastic and stainless steel with viable virus being detected up to seventy two hours on those surfaces after application it can also remain viable for up to twenty four hours on cardboard and up to four hours on copper. The researchers noted that these decay timings were similar to those found with the two thousand and two two thousand. Three SARS virus suggesting that quote differences in the epidemiology of these viruses likely arise from other factors including high viral loads in the upper respiratory tract and the potential for individuals infected with cove nineteen to shed and transmit the virus while a symptom matic and quote. There are presently two hundred and seventy four surface disinfectants approved by the EPA for use against Kovic Nineteen Link to the list is in the show notes at this point with store shelves increasingly bear. I'm sure a lot of us are continuing to rely on delivery especially Amazon prime delivery to keep ourselves stocked up with everything we need so that we can shelter in place. Avoid going out to stores as much as possible and just generally socially distance well an article and vices motherboard talking about the broader strains to workers in the sorting facilities and also the people who have to deliver our stuff makes the point that maybe our delivery systems are endangered as well quote. Motherboards spoke to Amazon Logistics Labor experts. Who say it's only a matter of time? Before Amazon's prime signature two day delivery promise serious delays mistakes and widespread shortages due to increased demands from consumers also pressure on workers to meet rising production quotas restrictions on trade and the possibility of fulfillment centers being. Shut DOWN AS CORONA VIRUS SPREADS. Amazon's warehouse workers. Say they're already seeing increased workloads while fewer of their colleagues are showing up to work. According Labor organizers already Amazon's white collar workers have been asked to work from home. But that's obviously not an option for warehouse fulfillment workers and delivery drivers quote. It seems really likely that. Amazon's prime delivery system will falter Daniel flaming president of Economic Roundtable and an author of the two thousand nineteen report on Amazon's economic impact on southern California told motherboard. One day deliveries may not be made within one day if the workers who do show up to warehouses are more stress given bigger routes and are possibly less experienced incorrect deliveries will be made. The last mile segment of the delivery is very labor intensive and quote flaming ads. That were likely to see a close parallel of what happens in Amazon warehouses. During the holiday rush increase delays mistakes and bottlenecks. It would seem to me. Most likely that we'll see a drop in reliability and timeliness and quote but more than that the fear here is the same with the health system basically if too many people involved in the Amazon delivery chain are even temporarily sidelined by the disease at the same time. It's possible that even Amazon delivery could go down to say nothing of the potential disruption to the supply chain I e if even Amazon can't source enough goods to

The challenge is to blindfold yourself doing regular everyday thing and the one I watched was actually kind of funny, but then it went into people on isolators and those airport movers. Oh, yeah. Trying to get on and off with the blind blindfold on falling. You're going to get caught and ask every shoelace? Get caught in the escalator scary. That is I saw that. Somebody happened to them at universal one time, you know, big people movers took out like dominoes, hundreds of people. Now, we'll see just don't do the bird box. Challenge is open.
