A New Album Turns The Sound Of Endangered Birds Into Electronic Music

"An international collective of electronic deejays and composers is taking their beats out of the dance club, and into jungles and forests. It's all to help save nature's greatest singers. Birds Catalina Maria. Johnson has the story of a guide to the Birdsong Project Robin. Perkins is a thirty three road DJ composer producer originally from glass of England. He goes by the name A. Spanish for the. Perkins produced his first project in Twenty fifteen a guy to the Birdsong of South America. The whole project was born of this idea of taking the songs of endangered birds and challenging musicians to make a piece of music from and so trying to marry these worlds of activism, all conservation Goodson and joining us. Perkins invited artists from each of the endangered or threatened birds homelands to build their own solves around the Birdsong. The beautiful thing about electronic music is that it opens up this whole toolbox of things that you can vies do right so you can take a sample of a bird song and do five million things to it. You can turn into an instrument itself. You can reverse it. You can have effects. You can sample. Ed Perkins has just finished the second project. A guy to the Birdsong of Mexico Central, America and the Caribbean. One of the musicians who responded to his call is Nicaraguan Sonic artist that on behavioral. She chose the Turquoise Proud Maat Maat or Guatemala. rankle to me was a very clear choice as a child I would see this bird freely flying around and meeting his partner, the travel in pairs most of the time in my backyard for sunsets. Beautiful mystical moment every day. What about wrangle is threatened by loss of habitat primarily due to deforestation, it's also Nicaragua's national bird. This bird represents a lot of symbolic in my area of the world's, because it represents freedom and these Central American countries have been striving for political social economic freedom for a long time. The idea of freedom was also part of the impetus for Al Ovando choice. Ovando is a member of the renowned Gutty for collective, that also includes musicians from what the my love on us and Nicaragua for the collective's contribution to the album Ovando chose the endangered black cat. Like the guava uncle, the black cat birds freedom is threatened by loss of habitat. Obando feels his people have a special kinship with the catbird and struggle for survival, like you've just imagining US coming all the way from the coast of West Africa into the Caribbean, ending up in believes that still continuing the struggle and trying to be part of what the world is today. Ovando also happens to be a devoted burger. He even convinced the. The band to add a technical writer to its contracts when the musicians perform at festivals, so we know what we should just add it on and just put just for fun. You know some of us in the collective avid burgers, and if it here's anybody at the festival. Who'd like to burning? We would love to go birding with them married. They would know some places some hot spots. In Oh, we could check out some birds. As with the first scalpels, all of the profits from the new release will support organizations in each region. One of them is birds, Caribbean. It's executive director Lisa. Sorenson explains how the recording not only help her efforts, but may also yield extended benefits helping to develop sites in the Caribbean that need infrastructure for example, there might be a beautiful place to go see birds, but there's no trail. There's no interpretive sign edge there to tell you about what you're seeing. So we're envisioning funding from this project will help us advance building the supply and building the demand for sustainable burden nature tourism. That's project founder. Robin Perkins wish to yeah. Hopefully people will come away from the album. Feeling inspired and feeling the need to listen against the Birdsong around them to do something to protect the natural spaces that we need to survive proceeds from a guide to the Birdsong of Mexico Central America, and the Caribbean will also benefit nonprofits in Costa Rica and Mexico.

"On the side of one united something unique. It seems that nature has carved a human face in Ledge. It, smiling is what should you pass by? A As you come to the top of shallow ranch. A vast open part of the valley is revealed. You pause around. Patches of dense shrubbery dot maligned. And a grouping of trees lies in the middle. Like can literally racist. From a distance, it looks like one raw, large brown trump. Is. Moving But as you move along the rich line, you realize that it's actually an American Bison. Giant ferry creature. That somewhat resembles a brown cow. Bison not native to Catalina. in the early days of Hollywood Catalina Island was a popular spot -ficiating country Western films. It's arid landscape and have access from Los Angeles made it a profit location Boston brought by filmmakers. Many, have since remained. Making quite home here in the center of the island You pause and watch the majestic creature from a distance. It, one this three, when among the shrubbery sniffing from the best tasting. To sample from. You continue along the path. Glancing over every now and then to watch the bison carry on with its majorly day. Seems to be in the mood for a nap. Is it finds a patch of trees to lie on? This makes you wonder. By some might daydream about. As you leave the valley behind. The POFF has worked its way toward the eastern coast of the island. The same side that you arrived at this morning. Here. You see the first sign of humanity. Since you left the stunning view home, it's gone. It's the Catalina Island airport. Marked by a single non runway. And abroad whitestone building. It's the quietest apple you've ever seen. Wrong with the sun at its midday peak. You decide to stop by for snack, a cool drink and a bit of shade. There's an older gentleman inside serving on the food counter. You order light snack and something refreshing to drink The man was a pleasant smile. Incomes ready with a food supply of jokes. It's a nice moments of reprieve, he think. To enjoy a bit of nourishment and share a few laughs with A. With a renewed sense of energy you thank the man for the food and he's out lifting spirit. And rejoined the trail towards two harbors. You're more than halfway there by now. Still much of Catalina xvbeauty yet to be revealed. From the airport a path hugs the eastern side of the island. It's marked by rocky bluffs as far as I can see. The Rolling Rugged Hills, adopting a fine coat of grass. Until they suddenly drop-off to the ocean. Hundreds of feet down in waves crashed with full force into the claims. It's more colorful here than in the valley. You just walked through. A. Patchwork of yellow and purple wildflowers crisscrossed the breathtaking landscape. Down Go. Meandering along the bluffs. Occasionally pausing WANNA washed out. of his view of the ocean below. In one such place you noticed what seems to be a private Co.. A few boats more just offshore. And Avila rests up from a small Sandy beach. It looks like a peaceful place to. You think. The only access appears to be by wartime. Must be relaxing live there Just beyond this is a particularly beautiful clear. To riches sits on either side. Dropping straight down when they meet the ocean. Oh, inbetween them a long sloping valley covered in thick grass. Leads right down to the water. From here, you can see boats off in the distance coming in and out of two harbors. You're not fond now. You take one final break under the shade of a Scrub Oak Tree. it's crooked and bent. But broadened steady. As you sip on a cool drink of water. You look out over the valley, leading to the crystal.

"Hello Robin Rob. Time of Day and rob. I know Oh, my gosh, so I mean just to let our people know right there. We have tired Rob Tired Rob Welsh and we have vibrant rob greenlee. Ready to go ready to go, so maybe there could be a balance between all of that stuff, so thank you for coming on the show Liam. Husband struck. We're me. That's right and we're GONNA. Be Talking about the podcast. The podcast academy later on in the show, which is why we have you here, but we're also have all kinds of really fun things to to touch base on starting with some like some podcasting news and rumors, so you rob greenlee just shared with us something that neither Robin knew so what's going on with level later? We'll get an update. To their Libya leading software. This is amazing it's. It's one of the simplest tools to to use with. Your way files level now, but this is a really old tool. It was created by Doug K. back in two thousand five I believe and It got an update to support the latest version of. The MAC os so that's exciting. It's now for Catalina. Yea, thank you, thank you doubt you. So. I'm sure you can get just by going to later on. That's just how it sounds L.. E. V. E., L., A. T., O., R.! I believe something like that Sharon. Now all have links in the show notes there and I have to say I. Use this to away. He way back in the day because I heard it from podcast four one one. One and for those of you guys that don't know what it actually means it. Is it really Kinda does? What phonic does but in need of an easier way. It's this little tiny tool. You just drag the stuff. Stick it in it, and it spits it out nicely. Love elated afterwards, which is It just allows loudness novels of your files to talk. Out Yeah. And it's still early. It's free. That's amazing. Oh my God, so am also now into some other news. What's going on with Sirius? Xm. Acquired simple cast show so Sirius Xm Pandora Edge results required, simple cast since the last episode or announced the Acquisition Goodness Gracious, all kinds of shopping going on. So, what do you think that? Backup it's just another indication of the streaming streaming music platforms getting more into podcasting. There's no questions what that means and you know. We said it would be more and more acquisitions simple on the on the block for a little bit of time, so not not surprising to see that they got acquired How do you think that simple cast is going to be used as a property of this larger conglomerate? Or look little bit up in the air. If you think about how simple cast is different than, let's say like an anchor with spotify anchor. spotify was free, so but You know the other one here is is paid so simple casts is a paid service, so I don't know if if Pandora's going to convert to a free model with simple cast, or if they're going to keep it a paid model that I think that's the biggest question of having my mind, instead they might be using it for in house things I would assume, but who knows I mean I'm just intrigued as aware fits because just like you're saying. It's slightly different like I didn't. I'm not sure like I wanna see what goes on with with simple Casper's sure they've done some really wonderful things when it comes to the community and whatnot, but not just not just acquisitions going on, but there's some rumors happening between between what am I. These guys have changed their name so many different times that I always forget like what everything is so. What's up with stitcher in mid roll and Omni? Rumor is they are in have been up for sale from scripts, and they've been shopping around, and and so that that is the rumor. That's out there and we'll see this. It's been reported multiple places. Inside sources and All kinds of stuff so We'll see what happens there, but we said it beginning the YOU'RE GONNA see more deals announced throughout this year. and. You can actually read more about this. There's there's an article on Google to a search for Stitcher I'm sure you'll find some articles that have popped up about it. If you want to read more about it, it's just a sign of the consolidation and changes in the industry which are going on all the time, so.

Let's kind of dive in deep on it I will say you've gone a little deeper than I have so the pool right I'm swimming in the pool. You did a cannonball from the top of your house into the deep end. Oh, I did I. Did I I wrote a post in the payers forum saying Hey Steven I've gone a little crazy with the bait. If you've got questions, let us know and a team. Oh, wrote crazy like install watch os Beta. And one of us did I'll give you one guess. Not, me. Like I had actually Rosemary. went in that pool I I said well. Did you watch blow up anything? She says well when I wash my hands at once crash, but otherwise it's been fine, and like you know it and also I feel kind of cavalier this year because I'm home, not traveling. if if my phone gets to messed up I can always unwind. The Beta I'm. Home doesn't matter that much so I. I didn't feel that bad about it, so so let's just Let's list the devices right What have you got? The BETAS installed on, so I've got the Beta on a external SSD that. I'm booting my macbook pro from I, need my fro some later this year, so I'm not willing to put the bait on at directly yet. And running it on my I've had many other. My leverage IPAD PRO is probably going to succumb to it. By the time this episode comes out out of my phone, and the definitely not my Mac pro The this machine is where I make my living, and it will stay on Catalina for some time, but yes. I'm playing with it kind of getting my. Getting in the pool. I spent more time with it on the Max I've got thoughts around that, but. I want to get back. Somebody said a second ago. The interest in Beta cycle is way higher than it normally feels like. And maybe that's because a lot of people aren't home. Life's a little bit slower now. It's because like big Sur in particular is a huge change having we just on your iphone. Who Change like there's a lot of things that are really attractive about these Betas. Wherein some years it's like yeah, it's better, but you know. You can live without it for three more months. Some of the stuff people want to really experience now. Yeah, agreed. And and there is kind of some themes to these Betas as we go through it. In the show today I started with the Beta on my is because I have two IPAD pros because I'm that guy so I started with a on the big IPAD pro and it was running fine, and then it quickly cascaded over a couple of days. And I put it on the laptop, so I had big Sur on the laptop in it on the IPAD. Then suddenly I had it on the second IPAD I had on my own. I also put it on my Mac pro because we have a the way. The recording situation is right now in the sparks headquarters. Has You know there's there's four people living in fifteen hundred square feet and so? My studio isn't really where I'm recording shows where my I MAC PRO is. It's where I do all the edits and all that stuff, but I'm not doing the recording there My old studio has been turned into my daughter's. Daughter's bedroom, but we have an extra in there, and that is the kind of recording machine I'm sitting at it right now, so my fancy Mike and Everything so that one is not upgraded or or running Betas, but but but the all the others should Max. The to Max I own are and then a few days ago I. Put on the watch, too. Because I as I told Rosemary and the automakers. If it breaks, it's her fault. But it's you know so, I, I've been reading on everything. This one thing that you may have heard in the news is these are pretty stable Betas I. think partly because wwe came later. This is more like Beta or Beta three in normal year. That being said do as we say, we do. Don't don't know these. If you need to get your work done Yada Yada Yada Yeah. I, mean they're still developer Betas. At this point, you have to have a developer account. The Public Beta will be in July. That's when they're more widely accessible and usually in the past. At least it's been to developer bills for everyone public Betas so. Developer Beta two or three be public Beta one and there'll be a couple of developer builds and then. A couple more puppets, this sort of tiktok approach, and just because this Betas good doesn't mean the next one will be in fact very often. They get worse before they get better. So yeah, do what we say like. Let us take the pain and you know if you have a spare me, shake my head many if it bursts into flames, that'd be sad, but it's not the end of the world. Then yeah, I think it's fine to play with on that, but definitely out of production machine now something you need for work because you can this situation where the you know, it's always like the one happy really need the one workflow you really depend on. That's the one that's broken for months. That'll get you.

TSMC on schedule for 3nm Apple 'A16' iPhone and iPad chip in 2022

"The timing of possible move by apple away from Intel might also have something to do with the fundamental availability of other options and to that end. This story says that TSMC has begun the installation of. Nanometer, process fabrication lines, and is on track to begin volume chip production on the three nanometer lines in the second half of twenty, twenty. Just as important with the existing five nanometer technique, not only volume production already happening but. says. They've already worked on improved versions of the same. This is worth noting sense quoting apple insider, if accurate and based on typical iphone production schedules, this could lead to the apple designed a fifteen at the absolute earliest or more realistically, the a sixteen ship in two, thousand, twenty, two, using the process for more immediately accessible five nanometer chips TSMC is said to be in volume production with the technology, but it is already working on improved versions. The company is said to be creating more processor variants, including a further enhanced five nanometer. That expands on the existing five nanometer plus node. It is thought that apple is using TSMC's five nanometer. To create the next generation of a series chips destined for the iphone twelve tentatively titled The fourteen with production scheduled for mid two, thousand twenty in April it was reported apple increased its chipboard, or for the fourth quarter of two thousand, twenty, potentially due to an anticipated higher demand for the annual iphone refresh and quotes. Point being as we said yesterday. If apple does start making its own MAC chips, it will likely turn to TSMC to produce those chips on the five nanometer production line by the way John Gruber chimed in on the whole switching chips rumors, and he seems to think that there's no more reason to even hedge about it. This is coming, and it's coming now he. He thinks quote. I know there are some folks who think apple might simultaneously announced the transition while unveiling arm base Max for immediate availability, but that just doesn't make much sense. If apple could do it that way, they would, because they do like surprises, and they do not like preannouncing future products. A lesson recently learned the hard way, but developers need time to get. Get Mac APPs ready some developers. The smart ones are effectively ready to go, and we'll be able to reconcile their APPs for arm as soon as apple makes a new version of EXCO, available, but others will need time. I mean just look at all of the consternation. This past year over Mac os ten dot fifteen catalina dropping support for thirty two bit software hey. Hey transition announced several years in advance. I don't think the transition from x eighty six to arm will be nearly as rocky as the thirty two bit to sixty four bit transition, but for some apps it will take time really. The deprecation of thirty two bit software was the first step of a multiyear transition to sixty four bit arm software on all platforms. There's been some reasonable speculation that apple might use armed ships only for portable Max and consumer desktops and stick with high end intel chips for pro desktops, but I think that's simply based on our never having seen apple, even try its hand at high performance chips

"I know that you did not have any scenes with Bruno. Bashir but did you have any chance to talk with Bruno it. Yeah Yeah we saw each other Few Days I think when he was doing some flashback passing through at met him before few Damian was very small. Hello unfortunately because I love Bruno Burners a wonderful actor he. He is very with theater. So it would have been drastic. Have something to do with it. And of course he and his brother are all part of the same Mexico Film Community that you've worked with so many of them on Jay. Jay Say there was people from every single pardo the world you know there was a part movie two hours each so. There were so many people involved than movie. I know that Oscar. Isaac wasn't voted on movie. There was just a lot of people that I ended up working with afterwards. And they're like. Oh Jen like Wayne how? I didn't see where where you saw. That movie was just so big. There were so many people coming out in the movie that yeah I mean like we probably we. We were there the same time so we never saw each other. 'cause we were different places hybrid interviews. You talk about some of the people that you've always wanted to work with and you ended up working with so many of them. Is it ever like a pinch me moment always even when they told me that Michael was going to be in this movie? It was a pinch me moment. He was like love a guy. He's just so good everything he's just an actor that is constantly good three. Ah Religious working with great actress one of my goals to learn from them and to see them how they prepare into to see them. You know door. Seeing after seeing see they do something different or a-changing what are they changing and I could see that for San. That's how I learned from them. I will hopefully take with me in my future jobs. Is there anything specific that you can take away from your experience on the gory? I founding this every time I work in this little movies in the movies I find that most of the people working them not just actress the crew. They really liked the script and they really are devoted to this movie. Even though there's no money really liked the product and when you that kind of people that help each other that collaboration it is fantastic. It is great. Mike Lynch are such good friends but they just wanted everyone to be okay. They don't worry just about themselves or other actors but it's a sense of community that we're in this together so yeah. I think it's just one of the things. I found really intriguing about the movie is that it involves a bad man posing as a priest and that most recently was done in the movie Corpus Christi which was one of the finalists for last year's best foreign feature and it just seems so interesting that this has become a theme it was even a major theme in the TV series. Hell on wheels recently. Why is this in the Zeitgeist? I find myself asking? Why is this? Suddenly a storyline that appeal so much. I want to an I remember. It was like a kid. Dot was just drinking partying and he his crazy mind. He just became the freese. And start preaching a the character of Shea is different in the way that he was leaving. He murder someone he committed a crime. I think the Corpus Christi Movie. I think he was displaying but then I think she's scared to really got into that and I don't know I saw a big difference between those two. I do hope you had at least some good times. It wasn't hall dark on the set all the time and I was selling fine. No no offence especially I have so much fun watching the work and seeing the process for the mets. Let's take in every movie. That's what I take every job. I just trying to take these actors that I admire what they do. Are there any specific times between takes? It was very lighthearted really I think between takes as they set for everyone just taking their space on their time. You know a very quiet and the lighter moments happened when she would say something and shaved like this bubbly personality. He's always on fire and Michael is the contrary you respect you know. They were disrespecting their own spaces. Blows we close things out. We are all stuck at home. Still any final thoughts you want to share with the audience about what we're going through right now. I think we'd be grateful that we are at home. Where safe and we just have to be patient and take one day in time Catalina Marino from the movie the Corey. Thank you so much for joining us on Hollywood unscripted..

The most interesting new Android 11 features so far

"Entered eleven. They released the developer preview earlier than ever. You can't just go install like a Beta you gotta flash it and it's mostly developer facing stuff But the stuff that is facing a real humans is a chat heads. Bubbles are making a grand comeback There's this like conversation section which I actually initially got wrong announcement post where they basically taking a whole bunch of all your chats. And they're putting him in a separate area notifications they might actually finally do real screen recording natively thank. God and they also are going to have better sort of APP security permissions and the big one is scoped storage. Which means that just like on the iphone Android APPS aren't going to be able to just look at whatever they want on your story to They'll only be a look at their special section unless it gets special permission to look at like generalized storage. So in the same way that like I dunno on the iphone at like I need permission to look at this and the more ended up soft to do that in the same way that macos. Catalina is constantly asking you look at the desktop. That's coming for android there. You Go Anyway a bunch of developers are going to have to contend with that and Google's finally just stopping saying please update your APPs to support the stuff. They're just making them do it. Because security I guess because some of the the scope storage stuff was already an android ten right. It was entertainment. It was Andrew. Ten is like hey we gotta do this and a whole bunch android volkers went. Oh like okay. Okay. We'll we'll do it next year but like please please look at this and now they're like. Yo we're doing this. Why are they doing this through the play store? You can't issue update if you don't support this thing because they can't so it's it's this gets into like the wildly complicated territory of the difference between Version of Android a the API version of android and which API version your APP targets in addition to all of that there's a new complication in android. Eleven where you can target the newest and latest. Api IF YOU WANNA use the newest stuff you need to target that level of API like you WANNA use the cool new thing. Api twenty-seven you have to follow API twenty-seven rules right but sometimes like there's like features in it that are knowing whatever and so now they're letting you like dynamically opt in stuff in weird ways. You can opt inner opt out of certain parts of the API. It's just It's radically complicated is but I'm getting at well. I'm just saying apple puts out a new version of Iowa's everyone has to hop to do what apple apple because they'll just put it across the entire install base very quickly or if you want to target the newest and greatest phone which is where probably the spending customers are. They'll have it whatever you got to follow the rules. Dandruff has Greg Google. Broadly has android. It's while they complicated. Api situation has placed or approval process. Which another Leverett can pull. Yep Right and then it has placed services on the phone which is yet a third and it also has Ads If you want to use ads on your APP the Google on one of the bigger ad networks and they have different rules there as well including it especially for apps that are like for kids they now have the Google play subscription thing which is another layer of approval But the biggest complication of all. That's more important than any of this is. The vast majority of android phones are a couple of years old. You know they don't have the latest and greatest operating system and so there's literally no incentive for developers to like update to do things like get rid of the side drawer that interferes with the back button and the Pixel 'cause you know half a percent of users have this stuff and so it doesn't bother ninety nine point five percent of your users like where's the incentive to like put the effort into updated. I'm not calling developers lazy. I'm saying that they're following the incentives at the ecosystem offers them. You know. They're putting their time into other things that bring them more return. Sure Google has to do things like change. The incentive structure and one of those changes is like making scope storage or requirements Which is like well. Okay now if I if I don't do it my APP BREAK. And that's they're doing that in part because it's like a it's a privacy and security issue. Yeah but where is it a requirement like we're in that stack of things where they can issue requirements is it a requirement that is it's the API level if you WANNA target and you want to be and if you want your APP to work I believe on android eleven okay and I think that the game there is still the newest phones will run end? Eleven if you want to run in the newest phones you got to work with right right. Yep and then if you but you can you can target the API and have it still working like older versions of the US in some cases so wildly complicated. Yes What else standard eleven I mean that's the big stuff big consumer facing stuff. There's a you know you could go and look at like android police and nine to five Google. And they had just a blast of a day just finding all the features weren't technically announced earlier. A bunch of the features that weren't technically announced so so my favorites are Scrolling screen shots finally coming back Airplane Mode Turning Off Bluetooth. Which is not you know it's been that's been fine on IOS for awhile but they're doing it here How do you? How do you ship phone's headphone Jackson? Not have this man. They are going to let you maybe pin APPs to the share sheet Which is interesting. Because share. Sheet has always been a disaster on android. It's just always been bad. They tried to do a bunch of stuff like machine learning on it. It slowed it down and tried to roll that back. And so there's like screw it you can just like put the APP to you. Want there on your own machine learning. Yeah guess what you want but it turns out you already know and then they are updating the Bluetooth Stack for controlling Baluchis devices to A new thing that has the codename gobble door chef. Just tell to tell the story DARSHA GOBERNADOR. Show is the son of Swain his name is Swain forked beard and You know that's the son of King Herald which is The Bluetooth Bluetooth comes from. So it's like the successor to tooth forked beard. Yeah I don't get where gobble gobble doors is. The is the word forked beard. His Dad King. Harald got the nickname. Bluetooth right yeah king. Four to beard got the nickname. Gabolde door shut and he did not become a text entered so so those blue blouses. Give me way better now. Yeah sounds like they're doing a lot to do it. A Lot And this is not the main consumer facing stuff because they always wait for Google. I O for that but this is like the stuff that we've been able to Glean Yeah android police in ninety five Google developers. It seems like a lot of stuff is hold over from ten. They just push back. There's a bunch of holdover from ten so like we screen reporting recording was an early ten Betas and then it didn't arrive These bubbles same sort of thing there but not used them and the stoke scope storage and the other from ten is intended introduced permission changes for location where you could instead of having it be all or nothing you can do while using the APP. Now they're continuing to chase what the iphone does and you can grant like a one permission for location Just once and they're also extending that to I. Think like cameras and microphones and then on top of all of that. If an APP just keeps asking you every time you open it for location permission and you keep saying no eventually android will like figure that out and they will block the APP from asking

"catalina" Discussed on Heather Dubrow's World

"And now you can unlimited two times a week right here a podcast one. Welcome back everybody Okay I have. We didn't talk about anything. I wanted to talk about yesterday off off on a tangent which was fine because we we we had to cut cover that ruled by the way thank God we recovered the show. From last week I know so That was nerve. That was very scary so at last week after we recorded I went to John Berman's office. Yes so Dr John. Berman's used to have a show years ago with her sister Berman and Berman and she's a urologist but she specializes in women's health and anti-aging hormones and sexual dysfunction like all all these different things so I went to her office. And this guy. What do you call those things are they gifts are gifts gifts? Gifts names gift. That's all you thought about. When when you this guy was there? And he had brought that M. sculpt which I had heard about because I thought it was the professional version of lightning fit right but it's not so the lightning lightening fit is electricity and like the elect like the m. s. m. SKULD is magnetic. Okay so do you get more of a result. I guess it's very powerful. They're selling it to doctors doctors offices and he showed me some before and after after it seems to have an immediate effect immediate lifting toning effects. If you had a photo shoot or something and then apparently it has cumulative effect K.. And you do. It's it's not cheap. I feel like I've seen every celebrity. This yeah it's like a thousand dollars a treatment you have to four treatments and then maybe do some maintenance maybe but he he says. You really don't have to really but tim me. I'd kind of like to try it just to see. I think they're gonNA bring the machine down to Terry's office in Japan's GonNa try to okay. Hi I'm curious because to me it's not for someone who's got wait till lose This looks like an. And they don't claim weight loss it's more muscle muscle building okay so intoning securely sculpting Keno Yeah. It almost feels like you're kind of Galway. And you want to shred a little bit. Hey Day but they also claim that it can tighten the stomach muscles. Okay now look if you have a huge separation you know what what do they call the dioceses in your stomach muscles. After having kids some people get a big separation. The only way you could fix that is surgery. They have to sell them back together. That's a big operation. And you lose your ABS. That's so scary. It flattens the whole thing out and there's nothing you can do to get him back. No because it's flat the thing about it they so tight it's flat so you can't get apps most people I think. A high percentage I don't know if that's absolute. I should be careful what I say there. But that's what Terry said. He said we really don't ever count having APPS. And if you do that which is what always scared me about doing that. But he said if you have a little bit of dioceses it can help howdy. We know if you have it you can see it and you could feel it. Some women can actually stick their hand in between their muscles in their stomach really not. I'm not to freak you out more but yeah okay anyway so we were kind of playing around with that so that was kind of interesting and then she told me she was is on our show. She was on Heather dubrow years ago and she had told us about this thing called Thermie Vaa remember. She was like it's this vaginal rejuvenation thing. It makes it all pillow in there and like yeah. We have a problem with and she's like well I'm dating and I and I'm like okay. Whatever so she was on our show work and we talked Reggie? There's a new thing I'm like. Well what is the new thing it and she said it's called Votava. She's like it's the same idea but it can go up deeper and whatever Mike Okay. I'm by I'm going to try. And she's it's like okay. When do you want to come in and like what are you doing tomorrow? I have an opening I go get a great so whatever the office. We're playing with the whole thing. And then he did the procedure on me and I have no idea. I think you have have to hurt. Well how long did what day it took about. I'm going to say thirty minutes K.. Doesn't hurt it all kind of warm sensation weird that your a friend is doing it on you just going in there with something. Yeah it should go up and inside and the kind of just go back and forth and back and for them back and forth okay and then they do the outer her Labia. Hey Yeah because apparently it can tone. Okay Well No. It's just warm. Okay okay but it was fine. It was totally fine. So have you had sex after that we did and anything was there any difference. I thought it was. I don't know because it had been a while since we had SAXO. Yeah right so I'm not really sure but I said we can't wait so long and I want to. Maybe after the second one will say I'm not sure I totally noticed anything yet but it was the the first one but it's not supposed to help enhance the orgasm or yes. Well what she says is it. She didn't say it tights. She says it makes everything really like pillowy. Nice in there's ears in a better than for them versus you youtube because I think it like Blake pushes the nerves I I don't know notice a difference. He's always uh-huh okay. Good so fun is hilarious. All right so I'm going to tell you about my trip to Catalina and don't take anything of divine okay. All right so I took hook cocoa to Catalina and it was honestly it was like one of the best trips ever okay why it was just fine. It was easy. We took the ferry across. We got the fancy Commodore Lounge tickets. Sit upstairs which wasn't really fancy. But they're so nice and they have like waiters and drinks and everything. How is she going into it? was she like Lovey Dovey was good. She was so excited she was really excited. And so we took the ferry over. We check into hotel and we Nellie joking before how do I get here. How do I get there? And they finally started laughing. Everything's right there. Yeah constantly so we got there. We walked two seconds. Pickens to our hotel dumped her staff and we went on the aerial. Ropes Course K.. And it's like an outer version of Ninja Warrior. And some of the. I thought it was going to be a little easier than it was to be honest with. There's a beginner intermediate advanced courses so we did a couple of the year ones. We got the hang of it and you have to clip clipping and clip out yourself. Okay and she's eight. Yeah but there's water underneath you know. There's no water your land this land I by the way water would have been. I would probably would have even not as nervous. Oh yeah that's why I thought it'd be over water. Know How a tree house thing. Yeah overland and and some of the obstacles if you can picture this seat. Let's say you have to walk across a bridge right but the bridge is made out of You shape ropes. Okay like an earring right and then in front of that is another u-shaped rope and then another one another another one so you have to step on the rope and hold on like like as if you're going to jump rope yet and then you have to get to the next one hand hand foot foot and and they're moving their swinging. Oh my God and you have to get all the way across. And there's like twenty of them and you're saying you have to clip yourself after each known or whether you clip onto the line and then you can go across but some of them have these safety catches in the middle where you have to clip clip while you're holding my God this thing. Some of them were like pieces of logs with ropes. Holding them up. So like you're looking at it you're thinking Oh look just hold on and you walk across log log but vertical the logs okay. And so you have to hold onto the rope. And they're swinging and you're renting high up and you're high up in your stepping thing too but it was amazing. She had to get rescued twice vice. She's GonNa kill me if I tell you after you. She wanted to go ahead of me. Okay and I'm watching and I'm like and so she. She did all the courses that I was behind finder and it was really really fun. We had one little moment where we're walking up to the trail and we're with this guy will and he was really cool and I said something and she goes shut up mom she was joking but will look. Don't talk like that to your mom or something. He in a nice way. He wasn't like inappropriate but he was like. Oh that your mom Tom Whatever it threw her off and she recovered but when we were done with the ropes course she was kind of with me. And I'm like what's what is going on. She's like you you got mad and I didn't get mad. I said that embarrassed me. She was I was kidding. And I said I know you're kidding but it's still not nice to say and and it doesn't sound good to other people which embarrassing to me I said maybe in the future just say shush up and like something happened a few hours later and she went shit. Shush up mom. Okay and totally got. It was fine but it was a good moment because says she hangs onto things and I don't know why she's upset or Mad God because it's like hours later she's remembered something so that was really good. Good moment was a good moment. That's awesome so we finished the ropes. Course we what we're Walkman rotel. I rented my friend. You Bet we go shower and change. We went to dinner at this place called. I WANNA say. It's Steve Steakhouse it's either Steve. Someone steakhouse and you go upstairs. And it's overlooking the water and they gave this fabulous table right along the window overlooking the water. We had this amazing dinner. Food is is really good and we went to the candy store. Oh I ate so much I mean anything that I didn't gain in Europe I don't know why have blown now but here you go French fries tips. Whatever which the candy store? We got bags of candy that we went to the arcade we played in the arcade. It was so fun. You just walk everywhere. Yeah and we went to sleep but it was like eleven by the time I went to sleep so he slept in a little bit. Catalyst Apps on the Mac, with John Voorhees

"Welcome to another episode of the Mac power users. I'm David sparks joined by my fellow Co host. Mr Stephen Hackett. How're you doing today's Stephen? I'm David how are you good. I'm doing great We're talking today about Catalina. And specifically capitalist APPs so we thought we'd have the Internet's favorite catalyst expert on the show John for he's welcome to the show. Thank you very much for having me guys. I guess I'm the favourite and maybe the the only I don't know I appreciate introduction. It's great to be here while you really took the beloit horns Mac stories when apple released east this this concept of Hey. Let's get IPAD APPS over on the MAC and and honestly. I was more optimistic about it when it started than we've had up until now we're GonNa talk about that during the show but there has been a steady diet of new APPs coming out that are built around catalyst since you've spent so much time covering it. I really appreciate you come on the show and sharing some of your wisdom assure thing before we get started go ahead and sign up for that. NPR newsletter. If you haven't already will put a Lincoln this show nuts. Lots of people are liking that. Get all the links from the episode and the information on the episode comes out the same daisy episodes Kinda Nice. Have that in your inbox John. I mentioned briefly. You're working over Max stories but you do you do a lot of things or stories a yeah. I've got a few different roles over there. I mean obviously I'm writing day in and day out with Federico and Ryan I also do a podcast with Federico called APP stories. So one of the things we've done a couple of times now is talk about catalysts lists catalyst APPs on that show And you know we we run club back stories. Which is our membership program as a subscription service service for people who aren't even more of the stuff we do so yep I keep myself busy with all those things John also is a rescue person so so when we were all at maxine together this summer and my flight on the way home got cancelled after it got delayed delayed delayed delayed and so I had to call John like hey? I don't have any clothes or anything. Saw The suitcases gone but I'm still in Chicago. Can I stay with you a night. And you're very gracious assist host me For extra night in your home and so you know. I'm not saying that anyone who get stuck in Chicago. You would rescue but rescued me in a lot. Well it was. It was a lot of fun and you know it's a little bit our houses kind of a relay. FM Halfway House in that sentence you get stuck in Chicago. You know you don't know where to go you're on the the street you can. You can stop by my house. That's that's fair. Well that's that's good. No Chicago a lot so I'll definitely show up up one day with my luggage. Sounds good. Maybe you'll be next David. But you know we talked about catalyst when we did the Catalina show and first of all why on earth did they name a catalyst the same year they're releasing an operating system called Catalina. Why did they do that to us? Guys it's really hard. I know that when I wrote my Catalina Review on Max Stories I wrote catalyst and Catalina interchangeably so many times and I was sure there was going to be a mistake in the final draft but Yes it's very hard to keep the two straight apple did They've sort of shifted their language. They call it Mac catalyst now. I wonder if it's because of this confusion by. Yeah I could definitely see that being the case because it is a little hard to keep them straighten your head. But Catalina Z.. Operating system and catalyst is the technology I guess and and what does the technology do for the folks that that aren't up on this. Yeah so you know Mac. APPS are built with something called APP kit which is a set of frameworks for building Mac APPs and when IOS debuted eleven years ago now it was based at its core on Os is ten now Mac os and but but over the year. The years those things grew apart. And you know I o s is you I kit and and that's how you build those apps and so what catalyst is designed to do it's to bring these two things back together to some degree so you can take you. I Kit APPs that are built on the IPAD and bring them over the Mac so that its simplest top level viewpoint. That's exactly what it is. You have an IPAD APP. You can bring it over into the MAC now you know. It was interesting when this was debuted at W. C. in June. If you just sat to the keynote you might be under the impression and that all you had to do is check a box. Yeah and you know you check a box and you've got backup. It's really not that simple and guests to apple's credit in the in the developer keynotes later in the sessions it was explained that yeah it'll run but it's not necessarily GonNa look like the best Mac Mac APP effort. You've got to actually do some things to make it more desktop compatible. So you know. That's that's one of the things that I think may have come as is a bit of a surprise over the summer to a lot of people is that it's not. This is not just an IPAD APP. Dropped on your Mac. You can do that. And there were some APPS at launch that were a little like that but to really have a good APP on the Mac. That's coming over from the IPAD. You have to do a lot more work

Here’s what Apple says to do if your 2019 MacBook Pro is randomly shutting down

"There was a support document that made the rounds this morning apple alerting users of the this is the full name Mac Book Pro Thirteen Inch Twenty nineteen to thunderbolt reports. That machine. Do you like that nickname federico. Yeah it's perfect. I call this the macbook pro no escape because it replaced the escape. It just has to report but slapped a touch bar on it so the bills crosscape no. It's called the thirteen inch twenty nineteen to thunder both reports. It's cheap MAC book pro. It's it's it's whatever what's wrong with this computer it's broken. It seems like so okay users were having issues where the computer would randomly turn off off. Even though the battery told you charge still which is not what you want from a computer you want it to be on. You don't want it to turn off unexpectedly and and Apple. has this kind of convoluted thing you're supposed to do. Where if you're having this Get the battery to battery percentage and then connected to its power adapter. Her quit all the applications sleep. The computer with the LID close let it charge for eight hours and then update Mac. Os like you being serious is that. Yeah it's six sixty s seems like something you would have made up now. It's it is exactly what apple tells you to do. I would look had no idea what this does to this computer. A my guess is that it is cycling. The there's a controller this kind of in between the battery and and the rest of the system. My guess is that it resets that somehow I think the word randomly in support article is not good. It's troubling right right. Like how like if things have gotten bad if they just like randomly to it might randomly tunnel on you. So there's that if he ever these machines and you're having this problem you can do this. I would expect A. Why do you have to quit? I don't this is Voodoo. This isn't doing anything my expectation. It would be that the next version of Catalina or maybe a firmer update will solve this. And hopefully it's not an issue where you have to get your computer service but if you have this computer computer and you having this issue check out the support document and good luck with the song and dance. What if you're already on the latest version of Michael Do the rest of it. I don't know if the issue persists conduct apple like you have to wait until there's an update then do it. It's weird s lust. It's a weird as a wild thing. That's what I want to talk about. It can't be very widespread though I mean I don't know I feel like we hear from people if I haven't heard a word about this. How strange I mean obviously happened in some instances but like what a weird set of things very strange? That's all I wanNA talk about it because it's so unusual like if you're you know computers funny just plug it in at a time and a very sort of way. You didn't make sure that the the lid of the computers facing north and you have to be wearing all black and sacrifice living thing then. Maybe it'll work

What is the Intel 'Compute Stick'?

"But we have something special in this episode very special episode Amac power users because he's not only telling us about his MAC hardware he's GonNa talk about his windows machines so yes I'm I'm glad you're welcoming this little this little windows machine and it is a little windows machine this is something called the Intel compute stick and it is basically a dungle but it has a full windows computer inside of it a and Gosh it's so hard to it's so hard to explain but in the theater of the mind imagine a imagine an Amazon fire TV v stick or a couple sticks of Gum bolted together and that's what this that's what this windows machine looks like and because I don't take my laptop when I travel I just rely on the IPAD pro which works really really well ninety percent of the time but occasionally I just need to compile something on an Intel processor or do something with with with a with an operating system that isn't Ios and that's where this little stick of gum sized computer comes to the rescue and and it's really something now explain how how does that work don't you work with the IPAD on that absolutely the way this works is with an APP called Duet display this is kind of similar to the new sidecar Catalina feature will there's one main difference in that one main difference is that it is it works with windows it works with a windows computer and so it's it's sort of a two part of the APP one of it is the APP that runs on your device and one of it is the APP that runs on your windows device and it's also tethered so you have to have a way to go from the windows device to the irs device so with the IPAD it's a USB to USB see or USB to Usb a I'm sorry for the IPAD pro it's something that goes from your spic to us the L. A. or USB depending on what your windows computer looks like and then it basically allows windows to be another APP on your ipad which is Which is really really fun I'd like to get into the details of that just a little bit more though because you've got a stick of gum size p. c. that you're now driving in your ipad yet so just so how exactly are you are you connecting what are you connecting the stick of gum too so I'm connecting the gum to two things one of them power and it's powered by a USB port and the other is the IPAD and with the ipad sees it as a as another computer and on the latest versions of IOS it'll say oh you've plugged into a computer do you trust this device and I say why yes I do trust this device and then I opened at display and there is my windows so there's no monitor connected to your stick right that's correct that's what got you on the show when you told me that I'm like we have got to talk to this guy isn't that like tickle all your nerdy own Stephen just put up a picture of it in the show notes I mean it's it's pretty wild because what you've effectively done is you've got an IPAD It is an external display for like a headless pc all in one and like you said traveling every device every pound account so you have made the most of what you can do it's pretty wild in fact when I saw this picture in the show notes I was confused like we it's running windows but that's definitely an ipad not a surface device and I couldn't quite work out what was happening until I read the description underneath it in the show notes Oh that's very clever very clever indeed and Steven it kind of reminds me of the for for some reason I did this it reminded me of the UH the Apollo Soyuz program which which I knew you'd you'd appreciate a dude because there's these two design languages you know in the case of Apollo Soyuz was the this American design and this Soviet design and and yet they're sort of docked together in space and you know I'm sure you know all the nursery about how the how to how to make a doc that would fit both spacecraft it's kind of similar to bring these two worlds together and I admit it's not always it's not always clean but there are there are certain issues which I'm happy to get into you the way I look at it is this you know a lot of people say well why don't you just bring a why don't you just bring a a a Mac book or Mac book pro along with you because that's the gene that can run both windows and the way I look at it is that what's so great about the IPAD is just being able to pull it out of your bag and start using it and that's ninety percent ninety percent of the things I need to do on it are just in IOS itself it's only that last ten percent it's only that occasional use that I actually need to sort of do this do this plug in plugging in plug it into a power source etc etc etc and that actually Loyd so it's a little more annoying but it's only a little more annoying for that last ten percent and there's so many listeners that like work in a windows environment in usually they've got some kind of business APP it's not like you're running the high end graphics card game on this is this is not a machine made for that but it's very the power exactly but for a lot of the stuff people used to make a living this is fine and it allows you to work off an IPAD but the drive that one windows app you need in order to pay for your shoes and so here's a tip for anyone who's doing this even though the touch the the the even though the IPAD pro works is a a monitor and actually even as touchscreen because windows supports touchscreens natively so you can actually just touch the screen with your Apple Pencil and move files around that way I like to have my mouse my little portable mouse so they bring along paired via Bluetooth directly to the stick so that there's absolutely no lag so it says if that IPAD is just a monitor my keyboard my external keyboard is Bluetooth paired to my ipad and that route's all all of that when you when you have to do at display open to the windows machine so it's really nice because the say the spotlight search still works even when you're in the windows machine it'll just throw you back out to Hiawatha in which again boggles like I was so happy when when it I worked I guess you have to do a bit of context switching mentally because you're you're you're kind of in both once exactly but it is kind of Nice to be able to put windows in a in a in a slide or review and and have the rest of your machines where they've been the native IOS style

Jeremy Plonk Talks About the Preparation for the Sprint

"Jeremy plonk standing by joins us now good morning or hey I'm just wondering why we didn't get any theme music before the before the segment today I need a little Old School I think it was Larry Role I'm so dizzy my head is spinning look at you I don't know what day of the week it is well it'll it'll get a little bit easier at least you know I think most of the major decisions that had people kind of wondering you know Catalina cruiser declaring for the sprint it was pretty obvious from early on Mottola sprint the Omaha beach decision some of that will be came clear there's there's those I think of the dust is settling Brixton borders is GonNa Cross adder but he's running in the turn ah you know it does feel like will be will be you know in in as much flocks between today and next Monday no I mean that's that part will come together then it becomes you know the devils you know won the doubles you know and and how you prepare for those it'd be for me obviously I'm a adequately equipped I think on The three year old the two year old so far this year the Qinglin racing the consumer circuit that I follow close you know the major horses at Santa Anita little lighter on the New York horses the most just not my my wheelhouse and the internationals are where I'm going to have to study up you'll have a point once we get the past performances for these racist you know it'll be a couple of days of good study hill next Monday Tuesday or so studying a lot of the Europeans that'll be Reading a lot I think that the the Europeans a little more honest I think in the press about how their horses are doing and what they like and what they don't like the American traders who get canned dancers most of the time so you know a lot of reading and a lot of race they watching but race replay watching stuff with the Europeans because just the style of those races are so much different than what we see in the US I mean horse made quicken and show a tremendous turn of foot but if they ran I you know there in the first mile in one forty they can't quick in a little more than they would say in the US you know so The the Europeans will Lena Quandary for me they always do at the Breeders Cup but to me it makes it exciting I mean I'm glad they're there but as a handicapper they certainly add an x factor it was difficult to it with that that's fair and I I if I want to make a make a parallel utilize is the recent success of of there were a couple of Chad Brown two year olds struck door was one them and there was also philly and both of them had one the broken their maidens with what would be considered modest figures and when they when they got their chances when you were comparing them to the fuller field steak opportunities you had to you had to kind of suspend your your normal mentality and appreciate much more the the race flow and the race style and project whoa how that was going to play against a either a fuller field or or a field that at a first glance looked you know looks like ah the horse would be you know shouldn't be one of the favorites and I and I think a lot of people have gotten into that habit in practice when particularly when it comes to Chad Brown to realize that they they may have just done what they needed to do and they're going to be as effective against a better field and that you know you can't simply you make a summary judgement and that's the same kind of of approach that you have to take with with the Europeans. because you know the times aren't going to compare and and you know the it's a bit of a of a mystery for the most part and you know that that's one of the reasons that years ago when those video compile ations would come out and you waited you waited anxiously the DVD Rom. Well but I. I'm sorry I'm old enough that I was getting VHS tapes so forget yours in your dvd we'd get those two you'd get a call bs on it but if you go to that I had Ah Talk about Beta I buy I my first recording device player was was purchased in Cincinnati it Steinberg's and and it just so happened that's Cincinnati because of Steinberg's who was a big Sony Outlet Cincinnati was a Beta town Beta was bigger there than than ahs started with Beta yeah and then I realized off track is because my dad had a Beta that had one of the I remote controls on it but it was actually a hat you know it had a cord to it sure court with only about eight minutes long so you have to be eighteen inches away from the damn day the remote anyway over press the button but Jason Brown with no of you know why they may just do enough you know especially early on watch the watch the workout videos you know expertise such a wonderful ivory of these from New York Florida California and all around the country and of course the breeders forces but watch every Chad Brown workout there's two horses working together they go slow they finish up even they just enough finishing up I mean this is what they're trained to do right I mean when these courses actually get into a race they've never finished more than in front of another horse at any point in their life every the Chad puts out there looks almost identical they come home well they come together they hit the wire in a pair and this is what they know to do you know not maybe they get further into the career in their let loose and and could really do their thing but to see like a Chatsworth win by measured half length and not a very fast time right out of the box that China to plan I mean look at the script look what he does the sources every morning and that's the beauty of being able to see some of these workout videos did you get to see what trainers normally doing what they do and they look at you watch most of his works then you see what the heck is wholly did yesterday and that is so like that's even Africa for Bob Baffert that gate workday was fast and that's not the norm for Stephen and even Bob commented on after saying I thought my horse is worth fast so I saw only one of the great we talked about reading trainer language you know they don't talk about their horses very you know openly a lot of times they're kind of close to the vest but when a good trainer talk about somebody else's horse especially somebody another division you should listen you know and when Bob Backwards Wild by the totally that tells you something and I think that it gets pretty significant the it was funny because Jay Ribbon joins US yesterday and j the quip came through j where he said The track was played slow after he after review said vast out Jeremy I wanNA talk keenly you but let's get a couple of quick Breeders Cup hits in while we have the opportunity and we're about fifteen minutes away from the start of what should be about either I five minute or probably an hour long announcement of of the pre entered fields we got the wagering coming out Friday breath or stuff wager gotta be available for Free Download on Friday and the fourteen analysts the rolling in right now that's part of why I'm spinning and we're waiting to get the final word on some of these pre entries to see where we're at but guys have been gals have been working hard in advance of preparation researches that'd be a great product free download express dot com check it out starting Friday and then we'll update it race week after we have the final entries and everything like that so give you two chances to check it out

Production of the 16-inch MacBook Pro has allegedly begun

"Rumor of a sixteen inch macbook pro has been making around for the last little while now apple insider says someone spotted art of the device and the latest Beta of Catalina suggests that the long rumored refresh and new size of the macbook pro is coming relatively soon a reader of the French language site generation found the picture as well as the sixteen comma one designation mystery solved except for the part where the mystery is solved according to the insider that number has incremented over the years and doesn't mean anything in regards to size for example the two thousand sixteen fifteen inches or it may not and the arrival of a sixteen inch machine will prove nothing except apples making a sixteen inch macbook pro internal naming conventions be damned as for the physical machine missing there is a physical machine pass reports indicated that production should be underway the minds behind the upcoming modular Mac pro or said to have been behind this machine as well that could mean lots of Power Costing

"Real time chat then keeps growing your business with conversational bots and guided product towards take Intercom Customer Unity in just twelve months they converted forty five up and they should do a better job like I dunno you apple for the bugs yes let's get into two pieces specific blue catalina because I was thirteen also shift very buggy but I think it's gotten better and we'll talk about it later because I want to say what I ipad as well in the second right now I tunes in the background just created an x file which is something that software that makes databases does all the time apple updates to catalina they kill I tunes they were music music no longer automatically creates sex smell file they have granted to like sequel light or something or what they moved to a proprietary format called dot of what are you kidding Novi Format Proprietor FORMICA DOT it. I'll come on apple so all these like Dj apps no longer read this database of organization so Dj's who were like using ICS organizer stuff and then they can use multiple APPs to access that library and that organization and all those extra broken paying you ask you can do your vantage written like hit a button to generate XML file but it's processing might not work so this is broken it's just a workflow that's broken should all of the DJ APPs in the world been ready for Catalina and updated dot it which is like what apple wants to do or whatever proprietary ITN's library API maybe I think more file extensions should be like resonant with meaning like dot L. clearly stands for it lost they all file extensions something like that it's like that's one the photoshop thing is another like there's just a bunch of stuff that broke rally point is we really are our phones are treating Erlich training us aggressively you dude you have to update all the time update means security bug fixes and performance improvements do go go go but the classic especially in the music street like the music industry is famous for having probably kept buying a live a lot longer than anybody else for compatibility reasons and I think fix professionals like dealer said this tales old all time with adobe so graphics professionals are going to be used to this aspect of don't update the operating system so it just seems like but we've been learning with our mobile devices to update and and we just have to remember that for now and it's not look doesn't look like it's going to be forever but for now a desktop computer is a computer that you manage and the operating system provides tools to help you do that and mobile operating system is a is is managed by the provider. Yeah so I think that the the S- thirty two bits thing kinda snuck up on everybody it's sort of thing we're like five years ago like it's all anybody would talk about is like check all your APPs thirty to sixty four the thirty two's going away Blah Blah Blah and it's just everybody in the industry got so good at just keeping up to date that I think that a bunch of people didn't occur to them like Oh wait some of these frameworks are like a decade old and might break now yeah so my only stuff honestly on my Mac with the adobe stuff everything else like yeah I've been upgrading this ACKFORD you know I don't know eight years something like that a long time I have a bunch of ancient Microsoft stuff from like an ancient office install stuff like that yeah my exhaustion WB company I'm GonNa put them on there are some Mike beloved ancient utilities are going away the the not the dashboard drag thing drag drag thing is going away dashboard widgets I still use widgets that's just you although I use them on the today screen today view so let's go on right like there's just a bunch stuff and I what I'm saying is this is it's a it's a lot of change at once and I don't think apple anyone us the MAC ecosystem was like really prepared to communicate the scale of change like you go from Sierra High Sierra or L. Cap to to mojave everything is basically the same right and Paul to your point you up at your your phone will the the APP stores in the background just quietly bringing everything along right incident uh-huh a couple couple of weeks late with dark mode wireless thirteen but eventually it's going to be there and they announced it is just like shows up and everybody's phone and you've never thought about it because everything's auto updating background the MAC APP store is not I would say a success story on par with the IOS APPs store not happening people stuff is just broken and there's no like inherent built in sense that it will get fixed over time so that to me is like that's a big change that's a very interesting thing like the map store could be something more like Akao software is distributed on on Lenox where it's sort of this repository of up-to-date software you know instead of like apples wedge to control and profit more offer APP development. You know if the MAC APP store was a little kinder to developers and a little looser in rules it could be much more popular and it could therefore help update like this go a lot smoother and yet it is not with us for a long time in fact it seems like they're going the other way right now they're acquiring a code to be notarized Woman Catalina. That's not a MAC APP store thing that's just a full-on Catalina thing it will explain it so you have to use to be notarized which is you need to sign up for a developer account and then apple needs yup you exist as a human we gave you you you are like a real thing not scamming therefore your APP can run the hope and the assumption and the way it seems is to be going I haven't heard a whole lot of complaining about this since the news I like became popularized a few months ago is yeah if you have a developer your gets notarized that's fine like the only people that should re- really be hurt by that there are people that are legit making malware that apple like apple wants to be able to have this not to like deny bad actors not pick and choose and curate is the hope and the assumption nevertheless short of like going through turning off a bunch of stuff and hitting a bunch of security flags Blah Blah apple now is like anointing every single APP that appears on your phone it's their laptop the they've already anointing the stuff on there like it's like it's like a notary non-public I've seen some developers already say like I've it's too much work to support Mac users like yeah we're done we're out and that sounds like really lazy but like if you like a lot of software these days is built with may be heard of CI CD continuous integration continuous delivery so every time you update the software all the tests are run and if all the test pass that means the software is good and then they ship a binary right then and they just update the official binary the software right then and there aren't any there are any MAC servers to run not unless you're crazy I don't know just typical apple thanks yeah but it's a it's a huge inflection point in Mac Os and and it was not built such deeter your review gets at Your ends it ends with weight but only until reviewers got it was the scale of the inflection point I think clear right well and actually I didn't do a good enough job like I said wait the beginning in the end but I feel like I wasn't clear enough about like because I didn't upgrade my Mac I like took a review unit and it was like a relatively clean install an install literally everything that use I knew it was a problem but I didn't realize the scope of the problem of all of the like security access dialogue said now papa because like apple wants to make apps have permission to get into like say your documents folder the they wanna move the Mac to a place where what every single APP can have access to your whole damn hard drive right that seems like a reasonable thing for them to want to do in order to make that happen they need to like lock it down and then the APPS need to ask permission and they need to grant permission it's all like there's nothing irrational about that chain of desires and events until you get to the end of that chain which is when you update your Mac and then all of a sudden your entire screen is filled with permission props that you need to accept it is a very sta real throwback apple actually made a I'm a MAC commercial adjusting long John Hodgman in some other famous actor who was a security guard standing behind John men and I'm John Hodgman talked he said convert like accept or deny athletes make fun of Microsoft for this thing that is happening on Catalina but like I get like times have changed like there are more bad actors in the Mac like apples and more popular company and there's more targeting of their platforms like Yep you got to this in point yeah I don't think this will be the permanent state of Catalina but it is absolutely the state of Catalina now and my instinct I've done this I skipped Sierra era I basically skipped l. cap like it's sort of like accidentally updated one day like I hit the wrong button and I was like oh I think it's kept leopard like you can just skip Mac os versions like your your world won't end the way that like if you skip an Ios version like all of a sudden things stopped with working along the way yeah do you skip in West version Catilina like it doesn't there's nothing here that's compelling I didn't even have a laptop that can run sidecar is a butterfly keyboard laptop which is the worst trade in history like you can have broken keyboard but a cool second I've had display the your Mac. Os this upgrade strategy is going to be the Samsung model where you're just going to get it when you have to buy a new computer that's right I will say all of this complaining aside I'm really liking Catalina I've been using it in like the developer preview for ages and once I clicked yes on enough prompts now I only get a new problem like every other day and always let me tell you I am always grateful for that prompt because a lot of times it's like new information it's like oh I did I say on on my phone I'm saying no left and right dude do I got Mario Kart on my android phone in pops open you must have google play to play this and then you say no thanks and you play it anyways they're lying you don't must nobody I say no a couple things on the map but mostly it's a knowledge of what software's doing because you're software does a lot of invisible things and hard hard drive access is is an interesting one that's good to have insight into I would hope eventually that we could find a low noise way to do this with network access so that the sort of situation with zoom or zoom just install the random application that was no spying I don't know what it was it was I remember this story it was bad right it was bad it could definitely could phone home and it was running perpetually on your on your computer and most importantly it was a web server holding a port open on your computer which is is in cents a access point for messages from the outside which is what you don't want sometimes so be knowing that having better insight to that would be nice in in future if they'll ever get there yeah I guess inflection point I don't think it's bad look at like in a brief moments I've gotten to US Catalina. It seems fine eh features like sidecar seem cool seems right that they broke up tunes into forty-five separate APPs and the finder sidebar whatever they did like it there's nothing about it that's bad I just think that there's no reason to experience the transition and this is a transition point if you have a Mac that's working like the Dommie who wrote the Wait for Photoshop users yesterday we were like listing the things that are broken I have no idea what the Photoshop extend script toolkit is I don't there's like a print shop in Kansas City like the entire business runs photoshop extend script toolkit but they should definitely there's no is in for them to risk their business. I beseech you printers of Kansas City wait yeah and so it's just that there's no reason experienced the transition I think you can wait a year sure and I think the reason this the other thing the better reasons way to year is because the real promise of Catalina is catalyst APPs is getting all the IPAD APPS and that appears to be a garbage fire I have every single feeling in the world I know that's why teary diener will be talking next go get some coffee I begged apple to make its own good catalyst apps ahead me. WDC I said apple do this right show everybody the way to make these apps good at the time they were not called catalyst apps they were called whatever they were ars Pan Marzipan APPS wwe arrived and apple did not do that they did in fact they they left their own catalyst APPs is the same hunt garbage that they were in Mojave so that was bad and then it turned out that alongside catalyst they also announced this thing called Swift Eli which is early of an incredibly elegant way to build a Ui for you know for back developers that are already using swift and to some people especially like Mac partisans looked like a swifty is future and catalysts is just as weird placeholder and you should ignore catalysts especially because they're bad and then in the months since ww DC we have learned that like making a good catalyst APP making a good Max style APP but using the ipad style code is.

"I status Apple Pay authorizations and apple care information. This is huge for me. I have the non normal problem of having added to many review units to my account over too many years who knew there was a hard limit on apple devices. Ten it turns out and trying to manage that through cloud dot com has never been easy with Catalina a few clicks, and I was done. Apple ID bliss. I've already covered signing with apple as part of thirteen, but it's going to be available on all of those platforms, including the MAC and Java script for the web, the gist is this download Anap like a new image editor. And if it offers signing with Google and Facebook, it has to offer a sign and without bowl as well. If the app doesn't care about your data and just wants you in as fast as possible, it just lets you click and start working, if it wants data, I like your name, and Email signing with apple will give it your verified, apple ID name. And if you're okay with it, you're verified, apple ID, Email address, is, well, if you're not okay with it, apple will create. A unique address for you. Random I non amazed that you can reply to if and when needed, but also revoked at any time, just for that app, and apple never sees or attain any of those emails, and because they're all unique companies like Google and Facebook was trying to connect all of our dots only dead ends. If you already have an account like from another app by the same company and has already in your keychain signing with apple is smart enough to just give you that to log in with instead that way, you're not creating duplicate accounts or losing access anything valuable in an existing account for us. It means less passwords to remember and because it uses apples to factor. Face idea or touch ID for authentication better security as well as privacy and almost transparent convenience. Can't wait for it to launch this fall continuity features are some of my favorites ever. You know, the lens that let you easily move between your MAC and your iphone or ipad like airdrop video or copy some texts from one device to another. So. So if all apple had done. This year was made a continuity display feature where you could easily extend or mirror, your MAC display to your ipad. I'd have been the first scream day summer level happy and called it a day. But what Apple's actually given us in MAC? OS Catalina is sidecar, and it's a whole lot more. Sure. In some ways sidecar is exactly that continuity is play feature. Many of us have been wanting for a while now. It basically does turn your ipad into an extended desktop or mirror desktop for your MAC, just click on this blaze and the MAC menu bar or click, and hold on the green traffic light at the topless any window, and you're on the side car..

"It and alert, you of course, because the MAC is the MAC you can still override all of this. If you really want to and run anything you want anytime you want by. For example, control a right clicking on an app or file and open from the context menu. There's no real security. When the rules themselves can be overwritten. That's something Matt go s Catalina tries to address in a couple of ways. First with a read only hardware, partition for the root file system to keep it separate and secure from the rest of your data and reduce the chances anything, corrupt or infected to make it work. The apple file system API is introducing the concept of volume groups, that's a set of one system, volume and one data volume paired together and treat it as a single volume. The idea is that even though they're actually separate. They're presented to you, as a single volume and they share encryption state, which means the same password unlocks them both. They even maintain a single unified directory hierarchy through another new concept called firm links, which apple characterizes, as bidirectional wormholes in pather of earth, will, there's similar to siblings, but support backwards and forwards path. Vercel firmly are created and install time and are transparent to users they can only be for directories and have a one to one relationship like users to users and local to local no one too many totally monogamous and can only be used in volume groups between the paired volumes. This isn't filed gone wild people now, just like everything from system integrity protection to the t- to chip have had some real consequences for real people. Everything from making it harder to hack modern versions of MAC OS to run on older. No longer supported MAC hardware to frustrating people trying to run alternative operating systems completely they'll probably be more of the same here as well. For example, it looks like customizing at by cons like swapping out adobe Photoshop icon for when you made yourself or found on the web isn't currently working anymore. And that's something apple is going to have to work with users to find even better balances for everyone. But for now you can disable read, only if you absolutely want who by disabling system. Integrity, protection, you probably should. And it will revert to read, only the next time you reboot. But you can also Apia has added snapshot. So if something goes wrong after an update like some of your apps end up being incompatible, you'll be able to restore from the snapshot and basically quantum realm, your system back to the point before the upgrade got snapped snapshots only last for a day, though, and only if you have enough space on your drive, so if you ever need to use the feature use it fast now second in his new protections. Apple also added to new technologies to Catalina to better protect the operating system, while still allowing the system itself to be expanded their system extensions and driver kit system, extensions replace the old kernel extensions or text, but run in user space safely outside the.

"If you still have a CD drive Wikipedia kids is listed right after turntable, eight track and cassette deck. Also all of you. Playlists all of them. The apple music section includes four you browse and radio where you can find beats one featured stations and all the apple stations. The library section contains recently added artists, album's songs and music videos. The playlist section has all your playlists and the ability to turn on genius. If that floats, your machine learn MS about search also seems to be better showing you not only suggestions, but what I Adams match in which part of your library. Now, real talk pretty much everything I went looking for from itunes. I found in music. So come this fall when you update to Catalina. You should find the transition, not just easy, but totally uneventful in the best possible way. Like I said, apple won't be ripping tunes off anyone's machine, it'll still be there if only to reassure you that you have a safety net in the remote chance you need one. I mean you can still run iphoto. We'll have if you really, really want to even though you shouldn't because apple is super slow and gentle about this kind of transitional stuff. But my guess is from the moment you up. Date, you'll be able to leave itunes behind and never looked back. Even when one day you update to a new MAC and don't even realize I tunes was never installed. Yeah. All the fields but like the iky, lamp. I tunes has no feelings and can't see you cry. You probably noticed I didn't mention device think anywhere in there. I noticed you noticing have you noticed that anyway? Yeah. If you just want to manage your iphone or ipad manually and over a hard wire, the way Neo and the matrix intended, or you still have old school, ipods, knocking around fret, not all the device, backup update and restore functionality previously shellacked into tunes has now been blessedly moved to where it's always meant to have been the finder just plug in. That's it. No more items popping up eager in your face or over your desktop hundred now and forevermore when, and if you wanna do something, click the device in the finder sidebar and just do it the interface looks pretty much the same as it did. And I tune. So there's no getting lost its proper home. Has finally been found books has gotten another makeover and Catalina this time to better fold in the audio books content that used to live in towns..
