"The whole lower the whole Colt behind face off is precisely due to Nicholas Nicholas Cage is acting in that movie the the peach seen the face off and you're you're trying to make magic with without the magician who got there so I disagree with. It and I think that if you were to remake a Nicholas cage movie conair conair would actually be a much better candidate for remaking face off right now guess hundred percent agree I again. It's tough to do a sequel. Obviously obviously someone dies but like there's a way to make it work because of the weirdness of what the story is and literal face off like you can make it work where they returned right. You could just make it where it's what was what was his brother's named Cyrus Cyrus geeks Cyrus the virus us in that prison with magnetic boosted he get killed or just make them have another brother in the recovers his face and he gets Nicolas Cage's face cow was his name in that movie is such an awesome name to it's possible to do right. There's there was a way to do it and it's just a bummer. They didn't go that route because like whatever like I know it's attornal fights comic books sequels reboots whatever but if you're GONNA do it at least that's my thing it's going to happen. They're going to do it so we do it in a way that's interesting for top gun right. Did they need to make another top gun no but at least doing it in a way that people are interested right people are like Oh you know what the continuation of the story. It's a stretch whatever I don't care like I kinda see it now. They could have done that with this like people would have. I've been interested if you said Travolta engage your back yeah Topgun. Nobody would give a shit if it didn't have crews and kilmer in yeah and and with with face off just look Travolta's fight but Nicholas cage is Castro choices. He makes us movie face off is face off because because of Castro Troy and would nicholas cage does here and if you take that out it's nothing it's it's it's a concept. I was trying to think of somebody who can kind replicate that sort of crazy. Where it's it's not an actor? It's not like a serious crazy right like he's not like doing the fucking jokers something. He's doing it like he's trying to do what is essentially actually a series act but like it's interpreted by the audience differently than I think it's meant to be portrayed and I am. I don't know a younger actor that can do that because I'm suing their cast someone younger than the Kate right I nick Shiloh buff Kadoorie no but a see that's like almost like mean territory or something I mean I mean Nick Cage. I don't think it was at that level at that point his career yeah but I know but you got to lean in into it. If you're going to be remaking cameos you've got to lean into it all right. Yeah I get behind that. Then based off was campy Faso's pretty candy by itself so overly it's like camping in hindsight I guess because it's overly nineteen ninety-seven super serious that plays camping now yeah exactly exactly that's what I mean. I can't think of anyone that could kind of go into that role and if they are if they were to go in that direction you're saying I wouldn't mind it'll Shiloh in who who's travolta whose who plays off well with Travolta own the shuttle in that the Travolta character in this movie is so vacant. I mean the the the way he was acting bosses family. He didn't have anything left to live for. Are you assuming this when you want someone with a better kind of chemistry right right. Maybe I'll just one nicholas cage. I just want Nicholas Cage and I want I want castor troy to be resurrected and and Shit Shit but let's conair would be much better because at least in con air you had you had the supporting characters in the other inmates that were on the plane with you. Yeah I think I think you could do. I think you could do cool things. Maybe making them different while retaining the same type of thing but going to face off is is is pretty pretty reliant on Nicholas cage and Castro troy in terms of that making faceoff I've agree with you won't cage back over anything else took. His face space came off people weren't he wasn't even like people were angry. People are like Oh come mine really. Why are we doing this? It was surprising I was this was news that actually took me by surprise because anything rebuilding or remaking it just accept it this. I paused for a second wow. I didn't expect that do they. Exclusively say that in a cage would not be in it they just said reboot from over the verbiage is so. I don't know if they ever specifically say wouldn't be back. Maybe not maybe if we look really into the details but it I think there are so many face ponds. It's like new faces that were I just kind of assumed maybe he won't be in it. I mean you gotta assume his agents doing everything. He can't get his ass. In this move Oh yeah and I don't know why the studio wouldn't that takes the move to a different level I would think I don't know I'm not a fucking studio. That's just my guess I just I I would love like like a story where somehow castor troy a cloned himself from you. Just you have different Castro Troy's running around green screen castor troy a loaded into the castor troy verse could eat me Peach. I mean I'll tell you what into the cage verse movie of Bunch Nicholas Cage Characters. They made a fucking being John Malkovich true a cage. It's not the worst idea of just people would freak out about it on a trailer and then we got an ad skit trailer for a movie that we made fun of we made fun of this movie and it's probably really fucking good and that's the White House for May twenty four white housekeepers trying to maintain their sanity while living on a remote mysterious series New England island in eighteen nineties. A Willem dafoe apparently is gonNA probably get a nomination for this. It looks fucking great like are I mean whatever like I'm we're GONNA continue making fun of this just because of what it is and how shot and we'll how it looks it looks pretty fucking awesome like it just does it was described in one of you sorry very troll as a lunatic dark comedy of cabin fever and much easement. That sounds awesome. It sounds like it's on Super Eight twenty four bill like I'm excited for this movie now. It's going to be great. It's going to be great Cedar Ready to live up to it. I will say though I don't don't think I put it on my top five still like I don't think I put on my top. I'm excited to see it. Don't get me wrong but like I don't think I put my top five five most at this point though we're running out of movies like by the fault that's almost up there. I mean I was happy to see jeopardy but ended up not living up to the hyper being number two on my list so that was number two on your list. What was it on my list yet? Chapter two was on your list and tell you what she wasn't on mine the cost they wouldn't Hashtag Hashtag it with wisdom has come out with the date. Dropping might ask comes out October eighteenth a month so basically a month limited did they do. They women thing. I would assume so yeah so we'll see we may not review right away if it's limited just out of availability but I lived in Montana's stuff you guys get one movie every two weeks so that's the truth the White House there's not much more to sandwich update that we're looking forward to it. That's all we got there. Look the fucking Nats Kendra. I've got an eight here we do. The year is two thousand nineteen in the losers club returns to dairy very unsure of what drew them there Richie.

She was a special occasion and she goes yeah. Come on man every move so i don't know what we're talking about. You should watch you. You should absolutely watch face if for no other reason than to just see what no chemistry looks like between john travolta and in <hes> his who flees his wife <hes>. He looks like he's yeah and technically older but she was also in. What's her name. <hes> remember the drew new giniger sean was the other was was john a one <hes> but what's what is her name around <hes> she was also so in <hes> movie where they go black and white into an color pleasantville. Whoever has the last name archer allen that was his daughter that's right which there is a moment where ron proposal it's obviously nicholas cage as john travolta but but he's like touching people's faces daughter like even even nick cage allowing <hes> we didn't we could probably out that scene out and i just i've part of that. Whole perfect movie is at the end when he goes. You know what get rid of the scar. I don't care about my dead son. He's like don't put the scar back. It's fine. I like the i mean. "Try to take this serious logic. This work win Travolta walks in at the end. I just spent like an hour and a half of watching him be the bad guy. I don't like him at this point. I want nNcholas cage to walk like, I think that would have been risky ending. Sorry. Can't swap faces. But Societa Nick age with the good guy by the end of the spill. So I just feel creepy when Travolta walks in and I'll smile like this really long slow reveal the shadow passing the windows who's gonna walk in the dorm like you. It's the creepy guy that wanted to fuck is daughter that had to be the ending. I mean, I was stunned that he was able to get his face back so easy. Like oh. This didn't matter at all. Obviously the transformation is that every time. He looks in this face. He's going to have to see the man that killed his child and learned to be okay with it. That's. Called healing. That's what a character would do when they get through trauma steady. Just doesn't get the scar. Put back on we found some random plastic surgeon in LA, and I love the fact is wife didn't even go like she's at home. What is more important than your husband getting his face put back on? But she's at home knitting or something it's black ops. They may not even let her know where it's happening. Oh, please. Whatever you're on apologised for terrible film. He comes sound during in Travolta. And I just again with Adam I can't believe this movie is so uncall- now. How would you have felt about this Jacob because what the screenwriters had is after all of this lovey dovey? Here's the sun, kissed the wife stuff Travolta that goes into his bedroom. Looks in the mirror and sees castor. Troy something anything like it would have felt like this whole body. Swap mattered. I don't know what it means to it your last gig link. Does it mean he's Castro? Maybe does it mean. He's become Castro. Maybe doesn't mean he's lost his mind. Maybe i'd. I don't know. But that was going to be the nebulous ending the the writers wanted studio. And who is like, no, let's just give them the happy ending yet. You know, it's a happy ending the music starts for the credits. I'm like did. I just watch period piece romance. What is this music? I've didn't even notice the music. I've just concerned how can John Travolta have stubble minutes after they put his face on the use the laser to put it there. Just like his stare can't laser grow hair. All right. Well, let's see if any EROs flip like faces here. Jacob Stuart which face you putting on for faceoff. Jacob. Here's the struggle. I had like I'm looking at this film when I try to like just rate something like on letterbox or give it a number rating. I try to be more objective and go Kay. Well, here's the acting. And then okay, I did have a little bit of fun here. So maybe that's worth half star here like this film. I just giggled the hallway through and had a fun time probably really bad film. Probably. Not a great action film. I don't know. But I had a lot of fun during it now. I know not everyone's going to have that fun because my wife is sitting next to me. And all she kept repeating was over other come up what's going on. Now. That's all she sets out this film. I totally baffled. I knew what I was getting into. I think this would make a great midnight movie. Get the crowds there. Every time finger waterfall happens. Start singing TLC's don't go chasing waterfalls when the daughter at the ends like so what please tell me what planet I'm on. You can all like yellow planet. I wrote down every things repeatedly going through here that you can make a drinking game out of something. This is a fun party movie. Is it a great action film? I'm gonna probably say, no. But I have a lot of fun watching it laughing through it because of just how absurd over the top in Campi how everything turned out whether that was intentional or not gonna go with Brown aero because I don't think this is a good movie, but I do recommend it so Brown ERO Stuart thank God. Because again, I've yet to hear someone that could say this is good..

"The cop is going to take refuge at the criminals old hang out, and I struggle with this one they have given some lip service that this Dietrich guy screwed them in some way. He is not a friend. He is not the guy that castor called and said, hey, I need some goons ref up a doctor to put my face on. He has separate goons to do that work. This was someone he used to like, but was mad because of how the bomb turned out. This is just one of suppliers. Yeah. And it somebody that Archer knows about because. He's been busted before. So it's somebody who he knows where to go to and we will find out in this scene. He is the brother of the woman who had cages child, right? And I don't think cage slash caster. Even knows he hasn't child. I think that that's what it's revealed here to Archer as castor. When she's like, this is your son. I think that's the big reveal. So caster at no point knows he has fathered a baby and apparently in cut piece of dialogue. It was part of a three way with Dietrich or brother anyway, so questionable paternal. I mean, they will make out at one point. I wanna just give a shout out though to the actor playing Dietrich knit Kassovitz as the Ray, you're going to say the Wraith, right? Well, it was actually going to say he directed alpha dog. But now that you've brought it up Jacob. Yes. He is the bad guy in the rates, and he's the son of John cavities, certainly one of the. The biggest indie filmmakers of all time. Yes. But John Casavant visited here. Nick Cassidy's is just going to call him out both at our book. Ironically, Nick, Kassovitz he worked with Travolta, right? And she's so lovely. Yeah. I mean, that's the Cassidy's way. You do one that's junk. And then you do one that's personal and small and say me or to Volta go do this small little film with him. That is not nearly as absurd as what we're seeing here. So what's this all about this child is introduced because now it gives Archer some leeway to hurt caster. No, no Archer immediately bigger waterfalls Atta Mike this is like oh my son's replacement. Yeah. Which is awful in lots of ways. I mean, I know it happened and somebody who's that creeping is the story. I mean, I think vertigo that was creepy that you know, let me find a replacement for my dead girl. They could've played it that way. But I think this movie is telling us this is the the happy ending waiting to happen. Kind of. We'll get there. But what's happening? Here. I think is Archer is learning not to necessarily give castor Troy any leeway. But when it comes to Sasha earlier in the film, we saw Sasha briefly because Archer was shaking her down for information about the bomb, and where the bomb be and where's all of that? And he was ready to take her kid away. He was ready to rest her. He's learning empathy for those caught in the middle. I mean, if this is about character. I mean, we all admitted it's not, but yeah, that was like the central or even a subplot of learning empathy for these characters just caught up amongst the I don't know we would have had to see Sean earlier on like not sympathizing with these side garic for this to be a moment. This is just a child can walk around and watch people exploding around him to somewhere over the rainbow. It's so Gianluca do what he did. I think in the killers. He did the same kind of thing where you had. Yes. Some song playing why violence went on. Yeah. That's it. That was all this all was about it so surface and first of all he almost had to pay for this scene out of his own pocket. Because the studio was like, this is taking way too long shoot. And second of all did you guys catch in the credits who sung over the rainbow? I could hear it. I could tell it wasn't Judy Garland. It's libya. Newton john. Yes. A live Newton John Travolta together. Again, I didn't even make the grease connection. But yet this scene the over the rainbow. Here's the maker break, and we had this conversation with mission impossible to as well if you don't like slow motion gun shooting bowls of fruit exploding guys falling over dead action. I again, I'm going to just say beautifully shot..

"I mean, if cage is coming just wearing Travolta's face. He doesn't have that scar. He had to give him back. The love handles and stuff and I was wondering about the scar. To I thought for sure that was how she would figure it out. And not like, oh, let me get a hypodermic in the middle of the night. And stick him. So I can do a blood test who comes up with that again, unless you're trying to make me laugh at how bad the writing is. But are you not laughing nothing against Joan Allen fine actress, but when they do it at Ashot of Travolta's Eddie honor, and they just pan that camera against her. Latte asks and it's like. I'm cracking up. This is Larry the music again. Yes. James Brown going on. And the fact that he's only he's not attracted to her. He's only doing this because he wants to completely get one up on Archer. He's not just going to sleep with Archer's wife, which is bad enough. But he's going to seduce her because Archer kids even succeed in that. He's going to go in and just overtake Archer's life and do it better than Archer. Does one of the big things. I feel like nNcholas cage in this because I feel like we're having a face off here Stewart, and we should swap faces because I'm like, you don't look like you're having any fun. What are you come international terrorism and loose it up a little bit? Because that's what he's doing with Archer is by being a looser Archer he's improving Archer's life. We even get Margaret show in here asking if he had a surgical procedure. He's too she know about my. Face. No did he have the stick removed from his ass yet. What is castor Troy as archers plan to become the head of the FBI eliminate all terrorism? And then he'll be the only terrorist. He went and got Pollock's out by saying politics is cooperating and telling us where the bomb is. Yes, as politics is out. And what he tells politics is we're going to use this law enforcement position. We're gonna take down all the criminals, we're going to do archers job better than Archer does because we're not going to follow the constitution. It's going to be said that they're using Gestapo tactics. But castor, Troy knows where all the criminals are he's going to bring them down. And then get a monopoly on underground crime. He'll have all the prostitutes and drugs and gun running and terrorism you need because as Archer he's arrested everyone else. Poor Margaret show. She's got a karate chop and pull out guns baked for the part. She hounded. Woo. Are you sure that tarintino didn't just push her into this? Because I feel like teen is like, oh, you gotta do this. And you know, he did the same thing to Mira Sorvino to he put her in that show young fat pieces shit, replace killers. According to what we said on the commentary. First of all his kids were a big fan of Margaret show and thought she was really cool as second. It was going to be young fat Chow in that role. But then he couldn't appear the film because of contractual obligations, and so Margaret show was the fifth. Get that get Margaret show. Okay. Yeah. Talking about chose character in this. Like, if I want to think rationally about this film, which I really don't. But if you have a body swap movie, and the characters aren't acting like who they look like like Travolta, when it's castor as Sean Archer, he walks into that F B I room, and they're applauding him for finding the bomb disarming it, and he's reveling in that applause when we saw the real Archer when they did that to him. He's like, no, we gotta think about the ones who died and were injured in the sting. Let's be serious like no one ever calls Archer out for acting weird which seems weird for a body. Switch movie they're just thinking he so happy because he captured caster I think the one who should be doing. This isn't Margaret show Joan Allen. Oh, yeah. Of course eve the wife because it's not her husband. She's been married to this guy for twenty years give or take and she. She doesn't notice she is just going to believe this change of heart and Papa with the brand new bag, and.

"I wish this film was a little bit sleazy or regained just reflection in some glasses of faceless, Nick, cage, smoking cigarettes, just have fun with pus dripping and have them walking around with no face. I wish we got more of that. Yeah. I wanted Frank from hellraiser here. I wanted to see the face. I wanted to see him doing the eyedrops because he has. I Liz I do like the sound design that he you could tell he's trying to talk like he doesn't have lips. In fact, I actually started mimicking. I started seeing is he doing it. Right. Prompt? Would know there. How do I shown it turned out a little bit like, Sean Connery? But I think that more of this would be better when we see the reflection looks like somebody just smeared grape jam on his face if something. Yeah. I was definitely thinking hellraiser beat them to the punch by ten years. And I I thought that I could give the movie the premise. But now, I mean, this is just really bad that this is the way that it all happened, and you could take half a day, and right this so that it would work with more plausibility unless you don't want plausibility. And so I must only accept us as camp we're trying to make it bad. I'm just saying that if the action is good and enthralling and often then I'm going to go with the film that stupid a lot better than I'm going to. If it's also dull, okay? So. So filmmakers everywhere, if your movie isn't working just raised the money for some action scenes and arty will like it and half of America. Have you seen the box office deters for transformers? But you don't like those. Here's what I'm trying to meet this movie yet, I'm trying to find why someone would enjoy this film. I know it's not made for me. That's why I never even saw it. And so what is it that people like the mimicry, right? It's the parody once they get going here of cage is going to spoof, Travolta, and Travolta is going to learn how to get a little uncared. Yes. That and there's something there when Travolta who's now castor Troy goes to Travolta's house. And they're at papa's got a brand new band helped me understand that. That is entertaining for you. That moment is something he wants to see. Yes. Because we're getting to see a fish out of water you talking about what he's going to molest his daughter. Yeah. What the hell is this? Because that is the moment where I'm like. Ooh. Okay. Cut this scene. It's a little creepy. But it also provides the things I thought Stuart would want tension. We don't want to see this girl molested, but they got really even talking about that. They don't even go there with that the sexual assault becomes with the wife. That's who gets raped, but not the daughter. The daughter is going to get a knife. Which is just heavy heavy foreshadowing for her eventually sticking him with it. I thought she would get the kill actually that was one of the times. I was surprised by this film. One of the things I thought was interesting. They don't really go there. They maybe pay a little bit of lip service. But watching Travolta as castor Troy have to get used to the suburban life looks through his wife's diary, and she sees how board she is an awful date night. And so it's got a sweet like, oh, I'm going to have this candle dinner at there are moments where I could see. Oh, yeah. If you wanted to make this a good body. Swap movie that you can have some interesting moments about. Serial killer getting used to suburbia. They don't really go there though, just looking at Joan Allen, they said up something here that I thought was going to like, oh, well, you just told me how she's going to figure it out. I don't think it ever even comes up Travolta before he goes away for the procedure to go undercover. In the prison Travolta is holding his chest and going oh my God the anniversary remember this scar..

"I love it because it is a stupid stowed. So we're gonna go to prison. It's just not a super secure prison. It's also one where they wear the magnetic boot. It's just like absurdity stacked on absurdity stack. He's just have an underground super-secret prison. But Nope, we're going to have special boots. It's all gonna be crazy Saifi and Stallone Schwartzenegger did make this film because they did escape. Prison that was in the ocean. And this could be worse than this. Right. Not as good as this all it's so bad. It couldn't be worse than this. It is because there's no fun to it. I need to understand what you guys say. When you say where you're trying Stewart alien that has come from space and Jacob you, and I are like tell me, your concept of fun gap. It's because the loan in Schwarzenegger taken serious for me. It's just such a dumb premise that. You're gonna take the seriously and make me really consider it doesn't work and for me again. Because this next section is very focused on cage because castor Troy is left with this invisible. Man bandage around his face lists head and we've got Nick cage. Now as Archer in the prison watching Nick cage learned that he has to be Nick cage when he's leg that prison. All watching his laugh crime laugh amazing. That's what I was talking about earlier. There is. A case where the cop is learning to be the criminal. And he learns that he has to commit a violent act if he's not going to be exposed during this cafeteria fight. And I thought this movie was building towards all kinds of moments like that. But this is a body. Swap comedy. This is freaky Friday. Yeah. I mean, you gotta wonder stand Travolta's taller than cage the two of them do not have similar skin tone. There's so many things wrong with this. I wonder how much of Travolta's ego had to go at the side with the doctors talking about the love handles. I mean, did the doctor insert fat into Nick cage. I mean, they'll make fun of his chin amiss. I'm just having fun watching cage and the actor. They got for Pollock's. Troy, Alexandra devotchka as having an equal amount of fun. I don't know if he's trying to play autistic or if he's trying to play because this actor not American it feels like you start to speak with an axe trout. Most of hey, bro. He's British the British doesn't come through the weird. Inflection and voice comes through though. And I'm fighting him to be just fascinating. He shares the screen with cage in a way that he's not outshone by cages light. Yeah. Like Winnie waves. He does it with his little pinky or whatever. Okay. So we're just in a world where everyone is going to improv some delusion. And that makes this a parade of insanity you are heckling or or marching along with the parade. Yes, I'm marching with us parade. Even though I had only seen this once there's a reason that I could almost totally recall every seed, and I would just erupted to fit of giggles when someone would mention the title the shock for me is that this is playing very much like a very broad nineties comedy. This is sister act. This is not an action film, even though the poster and the billing and the hype said that this was going to be an intense action spectacular. But there's so much action here when Nick cage does. His final smile and gets him that fist with the guy. And of course, the plane the boats all of this that is action. I mean, the because action is in it doesn't make it action. The tone is comedic. So I shouldn't be getting upset that things like his breakout prison attempt here is so stupid. I should love it that should be great that he thinks that if he can get a cigarette it's going to lead to this domino effect in which he can bust out. And stop caster who has somehow blackmailed the only doctor into pudding Travolta's face onto his yes, they kicked up the secret ops. Yes. Doctor to do this full surgery on him at gun point..

"The bomb plans to use his new role to take down all his enemies in the world of crime, leaving the Troy's as the head of all underground operation, and he revels in being Archer, even seducing archers, estranged wife eve and bonding with archers rebellious daughter, Jamie and Archer in Choi's face is trapped in ocean prison, everyone who knows his true identity is dead. But he breaks out of the prison, swims to Los Angeles and resumes. His favorite hobby hunting castor, Troy and to do this. He has to meet up with many of Troy's associates, including Troy's former lover Sasha played by Gina Gershon and Archer meets Troy and Sasha's, son. Adam archer? Reaches his wife, eventually convinces her that the man she thinks is her husband is in fact, castor Troy and Troy had killed Archer's boss and at the bosses funeral Archer ambushes Troy and a major firefight breaks out Sasha who came to Archer's aid, not realizing he wasn't Troy is killed and Archer and Troy end up in a boat. Chase Archer catches Troy. So as a last ditch effort to ruin Arthur's life. Troy tries to slice up his face or Archer's face Archer's face on his body. It gets a little confusing, but Archer shoots Troy with a harpoon gun killing him and the FBI brings in some magic surgeons able to put Archer's face back on his body. And he returns home with Adam who he and eve will raise as a surrogate son as credits roll. Now, I'm the person who on a lot of podcasts. I'm gonna sit here nitpick realism. So let me just get this off my chest. And then I'll. Lately role with face transplants. Get a face transplants or not one thing, but the bone structure underneath doesn't actually look like the person. So when you have a new face, no longer, look like your old self or the new person know, they dress that they say the implants on the skull in that put the face over it. So it takes the shape be tissue rejection. This was a concern to my wife's she's watching that. She's like, oh, there's not a rejection that I don't buy any of this see the wounds heal. So quickly to have a sis- take it up my foot, and it had a giant gaping wound that I couldn't take a shower with for three weeks. They said those lasers heels super fast, and they have these anti-inflammatories like, pure, you instantly, four you can't live without skin on your face. It was just a couple of days. Okay. I'm more concerned about him smoking with no face five. Would he even have eyelids left? I thought he'd be like clockwork orange constantly terrific stuff in the eye. Okay. I'm done face transplants. Thumbs up. Okay. Yeah. Again, that's not my problem with this movie. That's the least absurd thing in. I mean, it kicks off with absurdity where at Griffith park carousel for some reason with the music box play like it's so milligr- Matic. It's shameful. I thought Hollywood made him do this stuff. Now, he's just cheesy at heart like q the balloons to signify the death of a child floating in the air. I mean, that's the kind of thing I would expect in a film class. I wouldn't expect master John. Woo to fall to that kind of cliche. I think that's one of his trademarks is to bring in visual metaphors, like the doves all the time and everything. Yeah. You're talking about cliches. I would expect first time people that are just learning film grammar to do. But this is what he's done and Ben very successful with in his Chinese films, and he's trying to bring his style to America. He felt like the first two films. He'd made in America. He was getting his sea legs the first one hard target. He felt didn't get mass appeal because it was just to Chinese John. Woo. He then felt like he went too far the other way on broken arrow and made just a generic American action film that didn't have any of his style except for some doves. So this was the balance and by and large the studio was pretty hands off their let woo that would do that. He do so well or not, but my favorite part of this scene as all right? Lots of weirdness Travolta, doing the hand. Gesture you referred to Jacob. I don't know what that is the waterfall..

"I now have to evaluate everyone that ever told me that. But it's still do, you know, it's like you could say this is good Indian food, and this is bad Indian food. But if you don't like Indian food at all, I mean, you at least need to know that you're dealing with a curry. Yeah. And I didn't think John. Woo was camp. I thought John who was a serious director because many people I know studied him as if he were scholarly, and that's kinda shocking. When you see this masterwork this glass, it what is not. Scholarly about this Stewart. I mean, you have Sean Archer based on Sagittarius the Archer the constellation which directly opposite of that is Gemini, which has two stars castor and Pollock's the name of our two village. They're diametrically opposed. I mean, this is intellectual the more pretentious the better. I love all the pretentious details. They've tried to sell us. It makes it better some newly graduated UCLA film students there. Yeah. Yeah. I understand you do that. When you're giving junk, you try to polish the turn you try to bring ideas, any no, it sometimes be movies do graduate and become scholar. Like, the writers slash producers themselves were actually surprised when they saw this getting made as a my because this is an eighty five million dollar film, and they're showing up on set on days when like the airplanes crashing or the speedboat chases are happening. And they're like ask each other the studio does this is about two people who take their faces off. Right. Even they realize that the premise probably comes off a little bit camper than the movie does. But I knew what I was in for when I went into theaters first of all I mean, I've seen the rock and con air at this point had you seen either of those. I've never seen them. Okay. Right there. There's a level that there's a problem because if you don't know put down the. No, I don't know. Any did not go see action movies in the nineties? I really didn't. That is an indie film. John. Malkovich depot semi come on. It's all Indian actors villains. And Leaving Las Vegas is nNcholas cage. I mean that is actually why I saw was the cast and isn't big rains and raises the two. Yes, it was like a Pulp Fiction reunion. But the trailer for this was really campy in and of itself because it started with like a grizzled warned down Travolta discussing this guy. He's trying to capture them but trying to capture for years. It's very serious. The camera rotating around it does a three sixty. So you're behind his head. When you come back around the other side, he goes the only way to stop him is to become him. And of course, it's nNcholas cage. Then you're treated to another sixty seconds of over the top ridiculous, gunfights and explosions. I knew what. Was in for I went happily. Yeah. I mean, I knew that it was gunfights in over the top action. I just didn't know the rest of it. I mean, I didn't know the plot. Arnie? Why don't you give it to folks? Maybe they don't know like me, and we can all laugh about off nNcholas cage is castor, Troy international terrorist for hire. John Travolta is Sean Archer the FBI agent trying to capture Troy in nineteen Ninety-one. Troy tried to take out the law, man, stalking him. So he used a sniper rifle to shoot Archer in the back, but the bullet went clean through Archer's body into his young son killing the toddler now..

"And if there's too much science fiction, we lose the drama. At least dubs as so they had a director on board. Rob Cohen director of fast and furious. The first one Warner Brothers looked at it was like, wait. We're making demolition man was semester. Stallone, right. We can do one of these two films because they're pretty much the same near future action films. So they shelved face off. They lost the rights because it expired. Meanwhile, the guys kept rewriting it. They said thirty five drafts from their first in ninety until the final shooting script and in these thirty five drafts. Yes. Arnold and saliva were couple Michael Douglas is a producer of this film. I didn't realize this that he produced movies like one flew over the coups. Oh, yeah. That's where he got his Askar while you got it later for Wall Street. Yeah. That's where he got his first Oscar. Yeah. I didn't know he produced, but it was going to be him in Harrison Ford. Yeah, I could see that. And then Bruce Willis with Alec Baldwin. Now, this really we could have covered it already. It was gonna be Pacino deniro. Yeah. There were years that this would have been the right pairing. But I do think they ended up finding the right pairing for nineteen Ninety-seven. They went over to paramount. And it was still a SCI fi film paramount option the script, and they rewrote it finally for modern day. That's when we took it. I guess it had enough character drama this time, he just finished broken arrow with Travolta they worked with him though. He kept wanting to push character. Push character. Had they rewrote. They rewrote they rewrote. And then they finally got it cast with an Oscar winning nNcholas cage and a fresh from a comeback, John Travolta. Now, I'd seen John Travolta in broken arrow was not very impressed at all with broken arrow. Honestly, I remember not liking the movie and Travolta's comeback on Pulp Fiction. I felt it was a little overblown. I thought he was good in Pulp Fiction, but. I mean, looking at the movies he did after that. I think Get Shorty is the only one I liked when we're dealing with white man's burden and Michael and phenomenon and most of those were hits I'm not saying that they bombed I'm saying, I don't like them. But Travolta was back. You can't deny that he was in demand. And interestingly enough, he almost didn't make this film because he was making something just like it with Roman Polanski, and they had a falling out. But he was often Paris in ninety six filming the double and Palance he wanted him to do nudity. And apparently said some things about Scientology to and Travolta walk walk off. And. Because I did walk off if he had done the double he wouldn't have done this move and nNcholas cage didn't wanna do this movie because he was at a career peak? He was in action hero with a gold statue on his mantle. He wasn't in trouble with the IRS. No, this is when he was buying all the stuff that God, even trouble with the IRS. Just bought a T Rex Colloton. Yeah. He was trying to be superman. I mean, they were still working on that. Tim Burton version. Yeah. Around this time is when all the leaked photos and video of him is coming out, and he read it, and they were offering him the role of castor Troy, and he's like, no, I don't wanna play a villain, even though. While filming this movie Joel Schumacher did approach him to play scarecrow in the next Batman film. And I think he would have done that one anything comic book he have. But when I was like, well, you're really only the villain for a little bit of the film. Really? You're the anguished hero Travolta gets to play two characters the hero and the villain. You get to play three. The hero the villain. But also the hero coming to terms with the fact that he's wearing the villains face so cage signed right on love. How intellectual they're trying to make all of the sound. Well it worked on me. Because I believe that having not seen the film. I believe that. That's what this movie was about that. It was a character piece like heat, but with John woo ballet violence. Did you see mission impossible to even remember and everyone said that was being bad? This is being good..

Next one, this is all time. Great character name Scutt forcus. God damn. Still jealous Scutts forecasts space and his name is it you do. I hate that aided that just the last one you got Keti Heron, two points that's the high score ever had in that game. That's great. I don't think we have any more according to this week. So hold that record for a while. Really gonna hail Caesar on this one. Dick is so big, is it why is dragging on the floor of the entire script? Oh, I'm so sorry. Did I leave a puddle. My original concept was that he was going to Jisr and she was going to be like it's so shaped, but you left that on the cutting floor. Next to dick, I decided to name the baby water stead. We. "Yes. And, and so they, I don't ruin too much of it, but they, they finally managed to capture. Nick cage and Travolta then. I'm not sure why they decide this is a good idea, but they got to infiltrate Castro. Troy's crew, right? There's a bomb ticking bomb situation when it was there's a bomb go off in LA I guess, countdown timer and everything. And so they send, they send Travolta in. They want to send them into the prison to like get the information from. NNcholas gauges brother, Pollock's politics, and so they sent him in, but they realize they can't just sentiment. So they have this outlandish, this surgery they can do. And so rather than keeping the villain faceless for a little while they go ahead and give him the cops. Well, the cop's face technical, the cops faces is still floating in its little. That's right in the bad he's got in because because as in a long time, each wakes up from his permanent coma somehow he wakes deadpool. Yeah, he's or the joker cutting off his own face got no face. And then somehow his crew brings the surgeons back in and they're like, you're gonna give me Sean arches face now, and I'm going to let go and take over his life. And like as they say in the movie bone, his wife and and so then there's these very. So now you have. And then because now he comes back and he's FBI special agent Sean Archer, right? So he can take over the full life and in the process of doing that come and be like, no, no one note Nicolas Cage. Aka the real Sean Archer. No one knows you're in here on they think you're the real weight somebody's peach. Yes. And so they leave castor, Troy stranded in the prison as he's got, like, prove who he is. And and meanwhile. You've got Travolta like looking at the daughter, his daughter like in it's very disturbing. And the other thing that's so weird about this movie is it's so over the top, like every aspect of it is over the top and crazy, and I just don't like the people's reactions are strange, and it's just so it's so bizarre that watching it, I can't im- im- like, how was this taken seriously even as as entertainment factor, how how did it do? How what will ninety on different time. Yeah, yeah, we haven't watched that one. We watched the face TV show. Watch that with your kid. No, there was a TV show too. "TV services as well. That's the only way that they've survived that no one's getting phone lines anymore, but I do kinda miss having a phone line a regular phone line. Yeah, I miss the intention -ality of it. I think about my grandmother. She had a phone, a phone chair. It was almost like a child's desk, but there was a phone seat with with the surface where you could sit and write that down or write things down, or you can have your phone book there. And she when she was on the phone, she would go and sit at this in this one seat and talk on the phone, and the signal is perfect. I mean, I haven't had a my wife and I had to have a call a few weeks ago about something extremely, extremely important time sensitive. And the call for for maybe the third time in my entire cellphone using life, we could not keep a signal and it was very a big deal. And so we had to keep what I was like phone guy like, I can't hear what you're saying. I'm so sorry. And I kept calling and calling calling NT so much the one time I want the guy damn phone to work, but there's so much I mean like, but go back much die hard. It's a really good movie. It's it's really very good movie, but there's all the stuff with like the whole point is they cut all the phone lines. Did not meet you plaza now, known the phones can get through like, what are we gonna do, right. You know. And yeah, thank God. Reginald they'll Johnson was down there. Ho ho. Yeah. There's so many movies that are just like that that that the whole tension or stress point of the movie is that a person couldn't be reached or information you in scarcity of information like you were saying, there's there's so much like that. That that I've watched shows with my my kids. And then why don't they just call them like, why don't they call them like were they can't call music? Why he's not at home, you know? Like if you're not if you're not in your office by your spring and ring, right? This rings. Yeah, that's not weird. We watched as a, not as a family, but I, I watched with a couple of my friends face off the nineteen Ninety-seven. Seven movie. Yes, love that movie. It is so Hello and Bonker bonkers. Zohar the the one thing that really strikes me, I'll put this on our show notes this link to the one thing that just so much when I watched this movie was just like, oh my gosh, anytime there's an explosion. There is a fight. What I'll call a fireworks sound. Do you know the sound of fires. That little tinkling like a bomb falling? Yeah. And then the actual sound of fireworks going off, you could not only see the fireworks that would be surrounding any explosion, but they would make the little fireworks sound and this movie. I remember one of the people I was watching, you're saying they literally used fireworks as does sound effects? Yes. Like these sound of fireworks. This movie was made for about eighty million dollars. It made at the box office almost two hundred and fifty million dollars. This movie was considered a an awesome epic movie. And I remember at the time thinking, this movie was like a great movie. Like I remember being seeing this and being like, whoa, that movie was grad man. Like that was crazy. It's it's a blockbuster, yeah, it's so bizarre. There are so many things about it that are disturbing and fascinating, and the movie is so weird. It's was seen daughter. So creepy when Travolta who is. Okay. So for people who don't understand the the premise of movie from this, shockingly simple. Yes. Why don't we switch faces between two people. Right. So you have John Travolta and nNcholas cage? NNcholas lately, different weird hairlines. NNcholas cage is a villain, and John Travolta is an FBI special agent and stir Paula, castor, Troy is the bad guy. Customer in politics and Sean Archer is the good. The good? "This what's it like play a gay breeze well thirties in south carolina are still on the hunt for to escape murder suspects who busted out of the orangeburg county jail saturday night thais i'm sorry shawn johnson and curtis green are considered armed and dangerous the duo along with a third inmate who was captured early monday they took advantage of a brief electrical outage at the jail saturday night and just walked out of their cells then they overtook a bodyguard a guard by punching kicking and pepper spraying next they threw blankets over the barbed wire and climbed over the fence investigators say the escape took ten minutes tops can i show this if somebody broke out of prison and i knew there guys on the lam and they were dangerous and whatever and then i saw some guys my backyard with my clothesline shopping cry out clothes on there now everyone else uses a tumbledrier clothesline to try to track it's never move ever seen that's how they get their new set of threats right if i come running out there with castor troy's gun back from the action house i'd hold it and have like i speak with very present tone and it'd be a lot of lay down and put your hands but at some point at half to go i disagree with the crimes committed still kinda cool you're broke out that's that's cool that's cool that's all the stay we are but i'd have to keep weaving in much compliments about breaking out of the joint feel like tipples there's a part of me move i just respect that that facet sure rare it's a good time filler because as you know you have to pull that gun out right.
