For writing about What's happening in cities around the country and democratic cities. And ah How George Soros works to help with funding and engage in elections of attorneys general and district attorney's things like this. And they said, My goodness you bring up George Soros. Well, that's anti Semitism. No, it's not. I said it wasn't It's nice to see other people engaged in this conversation and coming to John. Cast aside. Because John Kass said absolutely nothing wrong. John Kass didn't do anything wrong. His latest column. What happened to in America where you could freely speak? Your mind is the question that we're all asking. The angry left handed broom of America's culture. Revolution uses fear. To sweep through our civic, corporate and personal life. It brings with it attempted intimidation, Shame and the usual demands for ceremonies of public gravel in He talks about his own. Experience. With what happened. To know what George Soros does is not anti Semitism. I'm here to tell you that it's not Right? If you then said George sores on, Lee cares because of his religion, woman, you might be onto something. Or George Soros does this because of his religion. You might be on something but to note that he spends his money this way. T note his work in American elections. Not anti Semitism. And of course, these woke folk there in Chicago are wrong. And he says, Ah, you know they wanted John Casto apologize and all that, he says, agree with me or not, And it isn't. And isn't that the point of a newspaper column Io readers a clear statement of what I will do and not do. I will not apologize for writing rats or us. I will not bow to those who wrongly defame me. I will continue writing my column. The left doesn't like my politics. I get that I don't like there's much either, but those who follow me on social media no, that I do not personally criticize my colleagues for their politics. I try to elevate their fine work, and I tell disgruntled leaders you don't like my colleagues. Politics that quote it takes a village. Well, I don't know about the village part. He's right about free speech. And it isn't easy. None of this is easy, and it's not just the guy who's writing for the Chicago Tribune or me on the radio. You talk to your friends. "Gambling with Casto says he's the gambler extraordinaire right Maggie gray well we're looking for non sports things to gamble on so maybe Nick and that has some creative ideas for us well maybe well well if there's something better we do know this nickel find it a bit on the we do know that for him it is his lovely girlfriend anyway I did a rod is still going on those I wonder that is usually to place but that's on the Iditarod that's it the betting blind as well as our body mods will tell us do you want to talk about a little bit about Brady B. as we talked about his decision to go to Tampa but this effect is you heard with the update from job big go at the top of the hour we have a little bit of a discussion with Ross Tucker at the eleven o'clock hour about a baggy but the decision here all of Brady going to Tampa Bay it kind of the trickle down effect that you have players now willing and called the Buccaneers wanting to go to tap up and having that lebron M. J. type of fact down there with the Buccaneers morsel abroad they they else looking to hop on it be part of what could be a championship team with up to a bay Buccaneers yeah you know I'm not surprised by that I'm not a you know Ross was talking about the confidence of just playing with someone like Tom Brady that belief you always feel like you can come back and obviously underscored by the greatest comeback in Superbowl history and so you always feel like you have a chance with Tom Brady wears you kind of feel like you never have a chance with some quarterbacks out there you're just waiting for away for them to screw it up and so I I I understand it happening in Tampa Bay and I and and I think they're gonna get a lot of guys who are on we had a one year deals and it cheap deals and go ring chasing I'm just a little bit more so curious about what's going to go on in New England because I wonder if the same amount of guys are you know I think they always were calling New England P. we see people willing to take team friendly deals we see veterans they always want to grab on it that the end of their careers at the wait when we saw the real Reavis play that perfectly here where he goes up to New England wins the Super Bowl and then afterwards because it takes more money with the jets and so you see it happen a lot and so I think that's the more interesting part because I personally was a some sort of thinking about what the patriots are going to do next I think the patriots are going to draft a quarterback I think that the reason one of one of the reasons why they were maybe so willing to move on from Tom Brady and to not give up everything he wants it to not maybe extend that courtesy that a lot of franchises feel like they need to do for franchise QB's is because I think they have targeted someone in this draft like they targeted Jimmy Garoppolo's us several years ago I think they see that there is someone here who they can groom to be dear parent now I don't think that person's going to play next year but I do think that the patriots who have a lot of draft picks this year something that they have like ten draft I believe maybe more ten or twelve draft picks in the twenty twenty F. they've twelve selections this year so with that kind of capital I could see the patriots making you know taking a swing but then trying to sort of hide that guy baby for a year and and have this sort of bandaid quarterback not that they're going to you know take this season but having a sort of bridge quarterback to get them to the next day the next person because obviously that's incredibly difficult shoes for a young person to come in and fill if you have a season of distance in between maybe it makes the transition a little bit easier yeah you could see that I mean you could you could clearly see that from New England perspective and as we talked Albert Breer yesterday about it bell check extremely motivated try to rebuild it weighed without Tom Brady and number twelve at quarterback and I can see them addressing the quarterback position even though you've heard a number of people tell you that they do like Jarrett Stidham of what he presents potentially as a young signal caller for them and for that franchise the interesting thing to me is that is a bigger window up there in Foxboro the window was quite small in Tampa yeah look at maybe two years and it's the here and now for Bruce Arians and for the for Tom Brady and that's what makes it so compelling to me a story because you look at two individuals that we know are not gonna be long for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Bruce Arians is already had health issues you know why he took up the challenge of what to get back into coaching after taking a year off of the broadcast booth to leave in the Arizona Cardinals gets back into it last year his passing offense did work need a quarterback to be able throw less interceptions take care of the football little bit more it's that's arguably the greatest quarterback of all time in Tom Brady he's got an unbelievable amount of weapons and now the draw of the great player to beat I always find fascinating because you've seen it before in other leagues whether be my goal whether it be lebron guys looking to hop on late in their careers to try to get a part or be a part of the championship team it might maybe limited but can certainly still play and contribute I think you're gonna see that down there in Tampa Bay guys willing to take a lesser roles and lesser money in order to try to maybe be part of a championship team in the next year or two and I think that's going to be a fascinating storyline because I think people are gonna open up their eyes to the Buccaneers and look at them differently than I ever did before with number twelve having to ease good tickets physical today in New York City they're still working out the final details of that contract he's going to be a Tampa Bay buccaneer well he's gonna be playing for Bruce Arians and I think it's going to work down there in Tampa and I think as you mentioned yesterday Maggie I think it's a more intriguing storyline because with all the window was very very short for Brady down there in Tampa well without a doubt and yet the eighth year of you're a guy who's going to go ring chasing with Tom Brady you know you're gonna have to take less because think about it they have to pay Tom Brady's thirty billion dollars a year and a of course but they placed the franchise tag on Shaq Barrett that's a band aid you're gonna have to decide what you're gonna want to do with him and very expensive at the address your position they have obviously Mike Evans under big contract you're gonna have more guys that are going to need to get paid but you know think about it because it's it's it's not it's the immediate and it's almost like the immediate twenty twenty for two reasons number one you get the extra playoff game this year with both leagues getting an extra wild card team and think about it in what not next season but the next season do we think they're going to move to a seventeen game schedule that's not good for a forty four year old quarterback you know as if Tom Brady play sixteen games this year he will be the first quarterback to ever play that amount of games to a ghetto at his age so think about it that the window is so incredibly small so yes it's going to be the short term down in Tampa and that it's going to be a little bit with the longer term up in New England because they do have a little bit of time I think they doubt themselves inside it you know you you know it is Ross Tucker was right it is it's extremely tough for the person who follows the legend right it's part of the reason why Didi Gregorius was actually beloved in this town because he stepped into the the huge shoes of Derek Jeter and was able to do it seamlessly I think it's part of the reason why a lot of people are really high Daniel Jones because it was his first season you know taking over for you I was a perfect of course not did he clean up some of the turnovers towards the end of the year yes he did just completely implode on itself which is kind of like the bar isn't it we just want to see that the person can handle the pressure because the dead and Daniel Jones definitely showed you that which is something to build on it's not an easy situation I got a say in the radio business I had my small taste of it but I would say it is it is ultimately it's a opportunity that you would not want to turn down and so if I'm a rookie quarterback if I get drafted by the New England Patriots I'm not looking at it as I have to become Tom Brady all in one season I'm looking at it just as this is an incredible two ready at about half a block out a lot of haters and a lot of noise and a lot of raised expectations that might not be fair but so be it right R. in in Brady obviously made the decision to move on from the New England Patriots as well which helps out whoever decides to step paid to that role or urge that rolled in twenty twenty and beyond yeah it's it's difficult you always kind of the old joke was you want to be the guy that replaces the guy the replaces the guys and you don't want to be first mandate it's difficult shoes to fill regardless of which we do a lot of people to look at the patriots a lot differently now than he did over the last few days two decades with Brady at the helm as your quarterback because you go look at them with different expectations based on whether a the inexperience of the quarterback whether be stood up or whether it be a rookie they'll both be experienced or even if you should say bringing in a veteran signal caller exactly what that person is going to be and the expectations for that individual in a Petri uniforms so everything's really change the one thing that you do believe it is you know you're selling hope because in New England you've still got the master mind you still got Bella check up there that you know is a brilliant brilliant football minds I know he's played loop and loose with the rules but he's extremely motivated to try and win without Tom Brady and we do know down to tap up Brady's extremely tried every extremely motivated to try and win without bill Belichick can you do to all this Brady hears the naysayers Brady hears the people saying well to serve both to attract good you know was a god awful too broad braided into me I didn't really do all that much offensively overall the cat calls last year the completion percentage the percentage of the Reds old you look at the the way that he threw the ball under duress of brought the ball into the ground or throw the ball out of bounds looks like you they want to take hits me Tom Brady hears all of that and what the debate Buccaneers hope is that they benefit and and the NFL benefits that Brady hears all the naysayers it is motivated by it it goes out has a bag up your down the take down their Tampa Bay which I would not put past them as great of a player is Tom Brady is even though he is as old as he is I would expect Brady to do everything that he can within his power to be great again in twenty twenty yeah I think for Brady you know I I think that he's got also I think what would put a chip on his shoulder not just you know the fact that he was a hundred ninety ninth taking aids is production company one ninety nine productions but even now like I think he believed he was going to have a market that really didn't materialize you know point as much as we thought you know the the.

"casto" Discussed on How I Built It
"Host for your MP threes. These other services, Lipson Casto's and whatever else is out there also provide an Olympics. So you get download numbers and where your show is being downloaded from geographically. And what happened you get other information about analytics for your show, and that turned out to be really important. And here's why when I first started the show, I thought I would just use this to cross promote my online courses. So I wasn't. Going to accept sponsors. But then somebody wanted to sponsor the show, and I thought well, I'm not going to turn away money, but I'm going to change the scope a little bit. And now this show is going to be sponsored. So I got lucky in that regard. But I'm glad that I did that initial research because if I had just uploaded the MP threes to the WordPress directory it would have been a burden on my host, which the original host. I was using the show is already burdensome. And I wouldn't have the statistics for my pitch deck, which has now evolved to send to sponsor. So I wouldn't know how many people were downloading the show except for maybe my Google analytics. So I'm glad I did that research. I'm glad Jackie said something about that. I also researched the gear so I had this Simpson meteor, I think it's Simpson meteor Mike, and it was fine. But I used this opportunity to get a blue yeti and a boom arm for the blue yeti. So that it wasn't in my way. And I looked at what software I should use. I was using a MAC fulltime at that point. So I would just use garage band. Do I need a pop filter, and I so I built out of version one point oh of my podcasts at which was a blue yeti boom arm in a pop filter. And that was really the extent of it. Right. I knew how to put a WordPress site together. I found a good plug in popular plug in called power press. I think Matt Medeiros from the Matt report told me about that one. And I was able to use Lipson with power prestige. Even though they have their own service called blueberry. And so I put the site together. Over time. I did more research to figure out, you know, what do sponsors wanna know? What do I need to know about my audience kata, Wayne gauge, my audience, do I need better equipments. And that was maybe the first really big upgrade. I made to my podcast up was my. Over last year. I bought a new XL arm microphone the road. Pro koster. I have the same boom arm. I have a different pop built or that fits the road, pro protester, and then I have an a RT voice channel. Which is how I can make sure that no outside noise is getting into my microphone among other things. I can make my voice sound like warmer or lower like more muddy is is the audio term. And so I can tweak it to make it sound. Just right. If I have a lot of s sounds a lot of civilins, I can use a DS or to make that less grading on your ears. And so I did later research like that. And then the last big bit of research. I did in volving my show was over this past summer at podcast movement. I talked to a lot of people in the space specifically about how to get sponsors and how I can improve my show and the automations. And so we'll talk about all that kind of in the next segment of the show. But I did I continue to do research for how to improve this show. It's a living breathing thing at this point. And so I'm not just going to launch it and put it out into the world and say here you are. Here's my podcast. I'm going to think about ways to continually improve it. And that was one of the big things that I researched. And I guess finally the last thing that I kind of want to point out is I added transcripts in part to some of the other research. I was doing like how important are transcripts. And so that was also kind of a result of the research that I was doing. So that's the lion's share of the research that I have right there. It was mostly like how's it going to host the audio? How should I build my website? What equipment should I use? Another one was should I do live or prerecorded and prerecorded is definitely the way to go. I've edited out a couple of mess ups. So I'm really glad I'm not doing that live. And so that's where most of my research came in as far as the title question. How did I build it? Well, we'll get to that. But first I want to tell you about this episode sponsor and the sponsor for my entire season. And that's pantheon. Today's episode is brought to you by pantheon WordPress. Five point. Oh, and the new editor Gutenberg are coming like later in November. Are you prepared? Do you wanna learn about the changes in advance? Well, pantheon has gathered resources to help you prepare in pudding. Webinars and tutorials the. First webinar in that series is actually by me. So it's a lot of aside from my webinar a lot of really great content and pantheon has made it easy and free to try to invert with your site before the official launch. If you wanna learn more head over to pantheon dot CO slash Gutenberg. That's pantheon I o slash Gutenberg. And let them know that I sent you. And now back to the show. So how did I build how I built it? Well, there's a couple of things here that I actually want to mention right. There's the the site putting the show together scheduling, the guests. And so let's start with maybe the more technical stack. Right. I signed up for a Lipson account. I built the podcast website on top of WordPress. I used the plug in power press to add some extra functionality for podcasting and to make sure that the feed that I submitted to I tunes and other directories was properly formatted that's something that I think doesn't get enough credit as far as these podcasts. Plug ins for WordPress. Co customizing WordPress beads is a difficult thing and a good podcast

"And i think all of that you know law literature and and the scientific community of view unlike all scientific communities different differing views and debate and challenge but yeah i think it's definitely an interesting read i'm just goes to show think there are certain parts of of assigned scientific community who who may see things in one way and others who say it in a different way and all that we we we ask is that wherever pray merckel rules that replace to you know to to do two things really is which is to protect cleaner fleets and catch those who want to cheat but we want to make sure that those rules ours robust as possible we know over time the rules the world rules award erects and then they they do get chains they do you know move forward assigns discovers more and more some is complex gates and i wish i'd be able to sit down and explain why so complex but it's but it's complex and on the one hand we want this resolved an you know the shadow or the cloud that may be you know casto chris the team you know the sport really to be removed as quickly as possible so whereas motivated this so couple of people's at that you know we were trying to delay the process a mile is nonsense we want the truth we want the truth and what we should be working towards establish the truth and the best way doing it but if that means we gotta go and get it done accurately and it's gonna take time to get that then so be it you know and not desirable for anybody but if that if that's what it takes and that's what it takes and i concluded my conversation with crowds for asking whether he was frustrated that the case was being played out in public because let's not forget that there will appeal riders who have registered in adverse analytical finding four south tomorrow and possibly other drugs on outright banned but are subject to threshold at south view tamales but this case it's being played out in public because of lake i wondered whether he knew that leak come from an i also asked him.

"The tigers i mean i think this is the most ground grounded way to bring you know mysticism to this grounded you know superhero quote unquote grounded superhero you know using the vote who aspect to you know to stock that whole thing my concern about it is that i hope that it doesn't go too long overstays welcome kaik casto's that's what these netflix shows do they stay too long with all the episodes you'll get the obligatory flashback episode yeah bushman got his powers when he was a kid yes yeah it's going to go thirteen episodes and that his hope it stays concise for all thirteen don't give a bunch of throwaway one but you to bring that up see we can even combine those those fears of this show trepidation aaron we say how the length and the mysticism both a something that didn't do it for me for the defenders man you know they brought the fighting the hand is big mystical organization in you know magical powers bringing people to live and everything which it would look concept wise that's cool but the execution they had for that the hand just wasn't a good they weren't good billons man and i'm looking at this clip is dead they were the only one with a costume crazy everybody else's all right it's got around with some oh crazy wool mart costume what's crazy wait a no wasn't ain't gotta what's the luke cage it's customs what a hoodie.

"Starting with this bit of interesting news flow because of course we have the google flowers that will be spouting soon one after all the rain after all the rain just me and one particular flower that might sprout up to continue the metaphor is maybe a new chrome castell a four k chrome casto angle for those of us to may have you know dropped the cash on the four ktv's so this one was discovered by one of the friends of the show daniel tyson author droid a four k atv stick with the big google g on it this just flew through the fcc that looks curiously like the current iteration of the chrome cast except a little more oblong h h to drop yeah yes actually that's better a teardrop baby to indicate its four kanus somehow i don't know maybe because it's crying or crying after you paid so much for four k tv and you have nothing to watch on it includes a voice remote with an assistant button for control basically basically looks like a chrome cast that would run android tv it's running oreo and there's also a mania posted for it which lends a little more credence to to little remorse well yeah i mean this is fcc so this is going through some people are questioning whether the jeon it like was was placed there and maybe this is like a subra you know some sort of other brand that it's not google hardware but i feel like shopped.

"Hello and welcome to the kennan the only film podcasts for you the listener get to casto ballot to decide what films deserve to be anointed into the hall of fame forevermore i'm your host amy nicholson and last week we had one of my bestest bestest buddies in the world genuine motto come in with her favourite film of all time umbrellas of share borg a film which i do not like as much as i love januario but you know what that's okay for junior motto because once again as i was less week with punchdrunk love i was thoroughly outvoted only one or two voters actually didn't even agreeing with my no vote i will start off with one of them with shrew shrew writes that umbrellas share book is one of my classical cinema albatross i can appreciate its beauty and importance it's frank socio economics and got ending but my blackened heart is incapable of love and sure that's a lot of how i feel too besides my apparently dead hearts issue i have two umbrellas to issues with umbrellas one legrand music is wonderful but the intentionally banal dialogue and lyrics are not is not even just that their bland is that they're downright on musical trail off before a progression resolves or musical phrase ends meeting the score needs to vamp for a few beats and it creates dead air in the conversation which drags the film out and breaks up the natural rhythms of speech to says shrew i just find the faces of people singing to be inherently boring as if when the voice becomes more expressive the face becomes a less deneuve actually overcomes this year but casanovas best moments are definitely when he is quiet so in the end says true i've oh no not because brel isn't canonical despite all of that that the as a protest vote for young girls of roquefort and ashu concludes also my overall romantic experience has been more false starts miss connections needless doubts and eventual so far happy ending so maybe i'm biased maybe that's where i'm coming from to shrew it just seems so much like reality to me it doesn't affect me emotionally as it does for everybody else i don't know why that is but.

"At its it feels foreign well i think it has i think there's probably what is happening and this seems kind of transparent is that the the kind of the pop culture aspect of politics who's a bigger part of people's lives now and certainly the deaths of people die just the news in general uh because that is something that is is shared you don't really have a choice on at you can't you can pick what silo of news you want but you can't really pick the news itself and i i wonder if if that is you know like saturday night live used to be mostly a pop culture show with some aspects of the political content now i mean i don't watch it but this sense i get as it's mostly a political show with some aspects of culture it's a dea probably halfandhalf it definitely um definitely is a show that be the only eat those are the only skits that seem to get traction outside of there was just they will skip doing while ago about the the mr pumpkins tom hanks with some pumpkin fellow i saw that a bunch even though they don't watch the show the other one seemed to move out all seemed to be politically based i think part of that has to do with the casto because they don't really have like a just a superstar in the show anymore kate mckinnon is probably the closest but they don't have those two or three fourths of nature performers like they used to have like avakum will pharaohs on the show somebody like that where they just by themselves by sheer talent and personality would become this viral thing or even like the andy sandberg and the the lonely allen guys and things like that now it seems like it's mostly the political stuff that's gonna take off and even that stuff um it's almost too close to home i don't like the baldwin trump stuff it's a wide like i've i have trouble like accepting trump is a pair to because he's the the actual reallife version of it is such a parody i don't know how you parody of parity you know weren't take a break to talk about delta airlines my favorite out airline is delta i am platinum medallion oh yeah one of the reasons is i love the fido tap it allows me.
