"In the bedroom does that make sense. Yes one hundred percent. I man i love this because i've had conversations with some female friends and they just they're talking about their experiences and like wait. What he didn't there was no this that or the other. No and i'm like what's the point you you need to feel. I want to make you feel like the most important thing. If you're if you're my woman. I want to learn everything about your body and your soul to make you feel like the most important thing. What can i do on every level to make you feel amazing. And if it's personal if it's whatever. That's what i will do because i care about you and i care about you. More than me right looked about being protective yay hand in hand protect provide procreate union. What do you wanna say about this. You think i'm crazy. But what i did no not at all. I think in to deliberate a little more. On what mosaic. A lot of that just has to do with people are dating anymore like this is such an instant gratification. Society like all you have to do now is swipe left. Swipe right boom you gotta hook up for the night and you don't have to see them again. There's no time to get to know. The person like i remember when me and my wife i started dating like it was exciting. Like i want to see what she liked to do. I took her to do some of my favorite things. You take me do some her things and you know it wasn't about like just when are we going to you know hook up and that's all it is now it's like there's nobody. I don't think people are taking the time to get to know each other. It's just it's yes you're looking you're looking let's hook up and then we don't talk again. Yeah yeah yeah no. There's so much to talk about here. Well and i'm looking at the clock. We're going to have to go for break here in a second but well you know what let's go to break and we come back. I love that manley song. Welcome back to one life. Radio this is bernadette junior in the mix and mogo set we are continue continuing our broadcast live from dallas texas and iheartmedia as well as can be in southern california on. Abc news talk. We're here with mobile today. Talking about what does it. Mean to be amanda. Today's world so right before the break. I said that we're going to talk about testosterone. Let's do it. We all know that men have different levels of testosterone but how does that play into or affecting their masculinity huge factor. Well what a man is low. Incest australian number one energies. Your desire is low. Your motivation is low so all the things that we we need or should do when it comes those three basic tenants of provide protect in procreate man. Sometimes they you don't care. I experienced a lot of that when i was racing triathlons full-time and doing ironman training. I mean your motivation. Just to exist is minimal. Wow so you're your god you say your your testosterone is the healthy testosterone level is is key stress is huge battering. That diet is a massive trinet so all these things that we do. They're majority of the things we do in. Our daily lives are actively pulling our testosterone down. So we don't have the capacity to be the men quote that we should be no and that goes for women to you know when they're pulled in a hundred different directions they don't have the energy you know The estrogen to do things that they might like to do at like having sex. And so i have to ask both of you you know. What is the one thing if you the one message for all the women out there listening that you want to understand Had heard them to have a better understanding of a man's What am i. What's the word. I'm looking for No a man's plight if you will when it comes to performance and testosterone. What is the one thing. And i know you guys are like what is she asking ear. And why. But i do think that a lot of women are confused when a man can't perform and they really need to be more understanding. What would you like women to know about this particular topic about being noticed one thing. Are you saying about not being able to perform bedroom award. In general or just in general in the bedroom like low testosterone. I mean if a man doesn't want to procreate or we're using the word procreate as as you know is a i never not want to so i wanna i wanna know what i have to do to make her one. My gosh this is funny. We'll see in a lot of women. Don't okay so this is a great topic because you do hear women complain. I never forget. A friend of mine told his jokes to me years ago. She was like what do you mean. Let's have sex. It's it's my birthday. I don't wanna have sex like like her husband. Wanted to give her birthday of having sex and she's like wait a minute. It's my birthday not yours. Three weeks ago for my wife's birthday did not work. I look here's my thought on this party in a lot of times especially as you get when you get into a relationship that sex becomes transactional. It becomes a thing that you do. Because you're supposed to do it. They're gonna see the love the compassion the exploration all. That's gone you know it's the same thing as when people are like i you should go on date nights. You should always have a date night. You should always be learning about your partner exploring each other like i. Yeah i i want to know curson inside out like the back of my hand so i know when she needs what she needs them when she needs it and the opposite is true. I need to be felt in. I need to feel like. I am wanted for as a man and for most men you again. It's it's stress and sleep if your man is stressed out and worried and and it constantly in and how those emotions help and figure it out if his nutrition is crap. That's gonna pull his testosterone down. You know if not physically fit if he's not moving if he's not active that's going to pull testosterone down. You're not going to be attracted to that and it's going to show on some level And like i said that goes for woman to you know especially like after having a baby all my gosh. The last thing that you're thinking about is having sack and it's a very difficult time for a lot of men. I don't know if it was for you junior. Sounds like you're in good hands there..

She gave her first radio interview to the opinion on cork's ninety-six and we've talked where a number of times since. She was a victim of stalking and her stalker was jailed earlier this year. The nonfatal offence against the person stalking bill is being debated in the shannon today and una has helped to draft that legislation. And we'd be talking to begin on the show tomorrow. Eighteen fifty seven. Five nine nine six. If i mentioned book titles distress signals. The liars girl rewind the nothing man. Who am i talking about. I'm talking about. I have to say one of my favorite irish writers of all time. And she's got that way in the space of four or five years. she's she's from cock based in dublin. Her fifth book fifty six days. is currently storming the book charts. I speak of course of casteran. Ryan howard all i can say catherine wayne howard is. You've done it again much. Ever since i spoke to you about you force book at distress signals back in two thousand sixteen. You've turned out pretty much a book a year at the nothing man was one. I stayed up until four o'clock on a work night finishing and this is the same fifty six days. Where do you get the ideas from usually might ideas come from something in real life like nearly every book with something. I read in an article or something. I heard With this one fifty six days. No prizes for guessing where the idea came from. I was in lockdown myself. Indo blend in march twenty twenty. The rest of us. And i had free years. Have this vague idea about a couple. Who would need at fall in love. Bush nothing would be as it seems. But i had no clout to go with this and i was writing a different book. Back in march twenty twenty bush. Suddenly that was like science fiction. People were nightclub. Send traveling internationally. So i set aside and then i heard the. Uk's deputy chief medical officer advise new couples to either move in together or break up in order to a dear by the rules of lockdown and there was just a little thing at the back of my head. And i taught that says this couple going to me shortly before lofton and lock them together and that's where the idea came from. It's really difficult to talk this novel with giving anything away. But it's still say on the back of the book that she saw it as a way to avoid the scrutiny. A family and friends would he sees as a way to hide who and wash he really is as the novel opens with the discovery on the first of may twenty twenty off a dead body in the apartment that the couple shared and so we know it wasn't happily ever after you do tend to do that. Don't you. always start with the shocker and moan and worked back how you get to us i find that is really useful as a writer because you can kind of borrow some of the drama from the end of the book and i love that juxtaposition of showing the reader this absolutely terrible outcome and then flashing back to what is really a lovely scene where these two people michel. Everything is happy in sparks flying. You think this is going to be wonderful. And then the you know what i hope the reader is asking is what went so wrong in the span of fifty six days and to get that answer. They have to keep reading. Another thing you do and you've been doing since distress signal is leading us down fake tracks. You're annoyingly good at that were red herrings In the industry the thing is that you can't leave child to said. The definition of suspense is asking a question in withholding the answer. And you have to do that. But you can't just have one answer so i want readers minds to be kind of you know trying to figure it themselves what's going on. I think just talking to readers and reading reviews and things like that. Most people who read this book will think they know what is going on. And we'll guess a specific thing and then when they get to the end they will find out that they were not correct. So there is something i want you to think what it is nas the truth before and i'll say it again. That's one of the methods employed by my favorite revolve. All who's harling cogan one of my favorites too. He can keep you for fifty two hundred pages and you'll go far down good. I never saw that and it was written down in black and white. Wanted to explain to you and again you do that. Exciting teams katrin rating in lockdown. Was that different. It wasn't at all. It was actually a great because there was much fewer interruptions. I think as a rienscher you know. I was very lucky. I had been working from home for years anyway. My job was secure. I still had to deliver a book under contract so really. I just had more time to do it. I think a lot experienced assertive. You know drawing uplift their creativity because they felt bash. You know not meeting people and not sitting in cafes eavesdropping. not going places. You know the well wasn't being filled up but for me. I had always worked this way. My ideas always came from like exterior places Experience so i was just delighted this. I could rise uninterrupted relate. Where do stories come from what i mean by that is a journalist has the thousand words to rice and finds the story of the day and writes in. It's over quinn. Does a story become a book is. Do you know when the idea comes into.

"Spending your when you spend your time hating them you know actively in your mind you know letting maybe some sort of face scenario music music. Come on that reminds me of somebody or a circumstance that comes on their minds. And then you spend all into this. You know hate realm that you've got going on in your mind. You were actually contributing energy to that situation. And i found in my life the way to redirect those type of thoughts is basically saying I forgive you and you know. Instead when i'm when my mind goes on that track you know oh. This person caused this problem for me or causes issue for me or this wouldn't be this way if it weren't for It's you know there's no mind is Is is a beautiful thing but realistically it's Only capable of entertaining one thought at a time and you can change that rather than going down to that at whole of dislike disdain for a person or a situation i just stopped there and i go no i forgive you and i moving on and i redirect and maybe i have to say it. You know twenty times. Before i actually. My next thought is something you know less less less hateful you know that twenty times as a mental thought it only takes a minute ten ten clocking out for the day or anything but you know you have to be persistent about the self awareness of. Is this thought coming up again. Or whatever because. I certainly don't want to spend any of my energy on you know I don't want to throw it away. And they spending it on hating someone or something or a situation you are. You are essentially throwing away because that doesn't do anything to change anything at all yet but it gives you that that anyway right but it gives you that hit of dopamine. I believe it is right. It's definitely a hit. There's an addiction to all these emotions addiction. Positive emotion to the addiction to the negative emotions is Kinda lot more. Like i like in it to like junk food. It gives you. It gives you specifically what you said. I hit of a chemical nomination that is somewhat irresistible to the human body so it does become a battle of self-awareness versus Just chemistry yeah. Let's get you all jacked up. And then you get all jacked up on the anger right and then and all that negative energy. But it's not healthy for you at all. It's really not healthy for you healthy and it. It would be what i like to think of. Okay let's think if there's a person you know that did you wrong and then You want to give this person any of your money so back to the topic you know. Do you want to give this person five dollars right now. No those stop thinking about them stopping how much you hate them unless you unless you would spend your money on them right now. Don't spend your energy on them. Either and That's that from that for me really snapping back into place like oh. My neighbor did this and They're always being so unfair to me and blah blah blah and. I'm like wait a second. Do i wanna give my neighbor. Ten dollars that okay moving on. Let's looking powers looking at the clouds are and then you know. Eventually you know a minute or two minutes later. You redirect and You aren't caught in that addictive loop you use the word redirect twice now. I like that because you do have to redirect yourself sometimes right right junior. I got my. I've got little kids so it's easy for me to say but it's like when a little kid is doing something that you know. They shouldn't be doing. It's a lot easier rather than telling no or smacking their hand or getting aggressive with them. It's a lot easier to redirect them. Though i that with myself as much there's not a whole lot of difference between the adult mental thinking patterns and the ones of children except for with adults. They're much much deeply much more deeply ingrained child. You know and it it. You make another point but i never thought about it quite like this have you junior. I don't know. Is it just me. Because i've never thought about like if i'm driving and somebody like really pisses me off. You know driving like a madman or something instead of letting them get to you. Say would i give them money or anybody. Would you give them money. No you wouldn't give them money reward them for behaving bad. Why would you waste your energy. why would you. Why would you waste your money. Brighton because neither one is infinite and both of them are contributing to You know you don't have you don't have limited energy you know you don't have money and you certainly don't want to reward a person or you don't wanna put energy like money into a bank of hate you just we all you know. I would say that the average person knows and knows enough to know that growing he doesn't Make things better no. It doesn't so why. Why contribute to it. But you know when you think of energy this lulu intangible and visible thing. It doesn't have the same feeling to the human mind that Money does so if you can if you if you like an to money instead of energy than Makes more sense and the same thing it is. It really is and i'm looking at the clock. We're gonna go for a quick break more coming up with autumn. Connolly's spend your energy like you spend your money. We'll be right back. "And what do you think are the biggest culprits. Well i think there are several. I guess what you would say are influenced points i. I don't know that we can point to one thing to say. Oh that's the real. Yeah well there. Several for sure You know. I mentioned styles of parenting. I think that's been an influential factor. This shift in our culture over the last twenty twenty five years has been a shift. I would say a way of objective fact and more towards subjectivity of things in other words to some degree. We care more about people's feelings than we care about doing the right thing Giving give me give me an example of that. I love it. I love talking about it and with with a good example well A good example on trying to wrack my brain on a good example. I think one thing that i've seen happen is bike. Bore instant and and as a sexual assault survivor I'll i'll just it's something. I'm in tune with right So we over in a lot of universities. They whether we're when we study great pieces of literature if there is any kind of hint to sexual assault in it or maybe there is a sexual assault within The piece of literature it now. There are often times where the professor has to give a like a warning. This might trigger you this. My you know you might feel anxiety because of it And i i'm like wow we're we are. We are now having to take care of things in case something happens right because it happened. I have spoken at a local high school talking about anxiety and then Was informed like we can't even talk about it because it might trigger my god. don't treat. wow that's why we need to talk about it. Right now is then. We need to help them. Comet not avoided right i. that's what started to happen is. We're avoiding megan. Feeling right when there are a normal part of life instead of addressing. I couldn't agree. More during your. What are you thinking. What's going through your head right now. Well yeah no. I mean i agree with that. I mean it's just like i remember being a kid. I remember the first year in school when they started giving away like participation trophies and i just and they gave me mine and it said like seventh place and i was like why am i even getting this and i remember i tried to put it on my like with the rest of my stuff and my mom was like what. Why would you display that. You know. I just threw it out. Like i didn't want that you know and i don't know i feel like now like everybody gets her certificate or something and i just feel like their motivations gone you know. I remember the competitions. What motivated me to want to win and the same thing happening baseball when my brother made it to the next level in little league and i didn't i had a whole year to prepare to try to make it the next year. You know. they didn't just take me because it was like. Oh everybody's gotta make it. And i feel like that's what a lot of people are missing. You gotta you gotta fail. You can't be afraid to lose that camp that's right yeah get knocked down good it is. It makes my phone already blowing up in my email. So you've stirred the pot. Kip they're calling bs on you about the cat thing or the bringing animals. The compassionate animals to work is no objective. A why why you know. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying. Why do we have more of a. I mean that signals right. That's reflective yup of something that we need to address. Absolutely i agree. I mean there's no one on the planet that i know of that loves animals more than me other than maybe ingrid newkirk and i would never bring my cat my dog to class with me. Well i don't know maybe love because he's so much fun and i love fun but speaking of find this is going to continue to be fun. Everyone stay tuned. We're going for our quick break. Everyone welcome back to one life. Radio this is bernadette with junior in the mix and kip watson. we are broadcasting live from dallas texas on iheart media as well as kfi in southern california on abc news. Talk our topic with kip watson. Today is are. We raising a generation of mentally soft people. Wow my phone has been up and my email so you really started pot here but i really think this is important that we address it you know and when when we were talking about what are the root causes of this of this this problem with kids just being so emotionally soft you know I think that one of the number one problems is children. Needs stability okay. Children needs to -bility. They need to feel safe. And i feel like the divorce rate in this country I don't know about worldwide but here in the us you know soared from two thousand to two thousand thirteen. There were more divorces in the united states. I think than any other time in the in the history of the country. And i just think that that has had a huge effect. I'm on children's overall wellbeing and mental health. Because i know you know the one thing my mother and father they stuck stuck together a stood stood together strong no matter what through and thin and i really do think that that foundation that stability that my parents gave me gave me incredible strength. And that's just from me speaking personally. I have been through some stuff. You know some very serious. And i've always stood tall afterwards. I get knocked down. It might be down for a couple of days. But i bounced right back up. So i think you're right when there's instability in the home then that creates instability in the child. Yeah a child wants to see a stable marriage. Parents that they can trust they innately trust them but as they get older and more self aware they may realize that they can or they can't And when there is divorce or multiple divorce that creates instability and then you usually have this situation where both parents are out of the home working. And there's no one actually parenting. And that i think has created a problem as well and i mean shall i say it. The feminist movement wasn't always great. I think it's it's done some considerable damage in the way It's.

"Of course Mount sack almost a major winner in the most recent run. It's they got some got some talent. There should be really really frigging good. I think it's i think leona maguire could be the breakout like she. She has been a top twenty machine all year stellar stellar amateur career. Play golf at duke I really like her. To mid tila casteran has been you know one of the the hotter players all year. It's it's to be really good. Yeah the automobile. Also shockingly i irish player in the solheim. Ever what silly. That isn't that weird surprising. But if you think about it though who else is irish in the women's game maybe that's why the irish fans are just out of control excited about leona maguire. There's she can finish like t eighteen and be like bill. Make sure that you get leona. Maguire mentioned in on the podcast this week. Gosh she's actually really really really good. I don't think we need to you know. Acknowledge a t. At but that's interesting. I never even thought of that. I don't know if i'm i am i speaking. I thought i heard. I think matilda castro might be the first finnish woman to play in the race to see which i don't hear a lot about finished golf though so that makes a little more sense to me than the ireland right. It's like no no lady golfers out there yet to reach this. Let's interest kind of exciting is only a matter of time. Both in the men's or women's side before we start seeing gulf a golfers from further east in europe. Kind of start to pop up. I mean it it. It seems like you know. You don't get much past germany on the european side really ever am of course with roy sabatini. You know from solanki of course but being the lone exception to that. But let's talk a little bit about the golf course You know as. I mentioned about thirty five times here rainy. We were up here in july and got to see You know got to play the golf course with pat and kind of talk to her asking a of questions and really. I think i walked away from that. Just kind of amazed. At how even on the captain inside the logistics were so important right. I mean they are adamant about creating this atmosphere around this event. And how that being important to you know the. Us team hopefully ended up winning being successful but What sticks out. Wh what's the first thing you want to bring up when you come to the golf course big just proper. It is such a proper golf course. one of donald ross's best golf courses It's a piece of property that it's pretty open right Tons of sight lines across the property. They did a ton of tree removal. i mean i. I always feel so corny. China describe golf courses but it just looks really good The big features this ravine that comes into play Either on approach shots or off the tee on a number of holes so to this ravine kind of cuts across the property and an influences. A ton I think the biggest thing saw you. And i learned was just the you know the the i intend ti in during normal play are pretty close to each other and they kind of go down fairways. That aren't quite parallel. Better put a pretty close and we learned that they're essentially going to combine the first and ten th tees so during the first couple of days at it won't really be an issue with with traffic but then singles they'll have to space it a little bit so folks coming off nine Won't you know the time it up with with matches teen off one. But i think that's gonna be great just just having that that big opening grandstand kind of serving for two tea boxes. I i think that's a really cool touch at inverness What else about the course. I feel you describe it much better than i would say to reiterate that is gonna be two thousand people around them. We're talking like it is a shared teebox normally and almost makes a u. shape where the first hole on the right and the ten thousand the left. They're putting the in the dead center of those two ts which actually makes both holds a little bit better. And it's just once at a tease like it's going to be the same t and they're going to have to like as you said the the singles when they come through on monday. They're going to have to get that flow. Right of our will hold up batch about the star. Imagine that you get through nine holes and you come right back to that. I t- setting and you get to go. Send them off again for the back nine. You get that first. He environment two different times. I think that's that seems to be one of their biggest focus items and Just to get on the logistic kind of fan atmosphere side. The meyer pavilion. I think is what they had. They called it near the fifth green near the twelve. T is that right. Seventy thousand square feet of build out around that whole is that sound right. I believe that's right. I know it's going to be one of the largest gulf viewing structures ever constructed I really cannot wait to see. Yeah we we. We saw the foundation that was laid. But we didn't see any any height to it yet. i just it's going to dominate the whole property. I think i hope we're not over hyping. How many people are going to be there. But like i really do think this is going to be like. I think they're expecting a lot. And there's a. There's a bit of routing change as we mentioned that the kind of the reasons why this happens a lot. And you know for ryder cup. Solheim the ninth in the eighteenth holes are swaps. eighteen thousand is one of the. I don't know if you call it signature hole but kind of one of the cooler feature holes. So we'll see that a little more frequently as it flipped over into being the ninth hole just massive massive greens. That are very interesting. They're not rounded off. So you can kinda talk. Some pins in corners while still presenting. You know a lot of safe options if you get out of position if you're in the rough the fairways are not very wide out there. These women will make him look wide. 'cause it's like the perfect length with wise for fairways for the women's game and you know the rough when we played it was punishing. It was wet and moist when we played there in july and it was like it just gobbled up golf balls and i'm hoping the greens get a little bit of firmness. Check the weather there. They're not scheduled to get any rain from now. Up until the event or during the events so The you know. I forget the name the superintendent there that we met though. And he's known as one of the one of the better superintendents in the game. So i believe that they should be able to get this golf course bouncing firm role firm which is just going to create a whole new interesting style. Golf and yeah. There's a lot of undulation if if the ball does bouncer is going to be some true death spots not to miss it just true spots. You cannot get up and down from around. The greens are some great par fours coming down the stretch. It's and they had yardage listed like sixty nine hundred yards which is wildly long for the women's game but at the same time i think that is like the maximum possible yardage they could set each hole at which i would. I would not imagine they go anywhere near that. So i think talking. You know one of the things. Captain hers was telling us when we were plan with her There are a number of holes where it's really going to make the players. Decide what to hit off the tee. Where if they grab driver. It's like okay you. Can you know you can gain an advantage but you really gotta fit your drive.

"Day. Two of the us open pretty much. Done dusted there into the night session under the lights at the moment Novak chocolate which is in the. I already got a break on the board as we come to now the assumption here tennis podcast houses that matches particularly competitive. Hence we'll we'll probably be saved to record the tennis podcast so here. We are if backing about half an hour. When he's a set down that might that might tell you something but wasn't whole guarantees sump when he strode onto with an eyecare bag an iky bag. Yep right now there's swagger about wasn't that there was a sort of hey look at me for for about four seconds. Yeah yes. I've not played many tennis tournaments in my lifetime. But holder rune is like all of the top seeds those tennis tournaments. I did play very very flashy and sure of himself. Spectacularly pleased with himself but anyway he's getting his get his backside smacks at the moment by ivax yokich so we'll see how that turns out katie boulders in action is well on a day when another supply wanna match that was emirati connor. We'll talk about all this stuff. And i think we need to just rewind a little bit though just to put the The andy murray winge fast to bed because He hasn't put this behind him as he really is. Irritation at stephanie. Sits pass and his toilet habits He's come out today and tweeted upon waking up to the day it takes steph sits about twice as long to go to the bathroom as it takes. Jeff vessels spells it basil's to fly into space interesting and then in the meiji of toilet an emoji of a rocket ship so We we ran that tweet till on on prime video because we went went. Big on the acura in our opening to the show. Lou gate asama cooling it And we had to both correct his spelling basil's answer to pass it to pass and also emit his two excellent emojis because we couldn't get emojis graphics. So we've really editorialized. Andy murray had to say and yet it's still it's i think. The brilliant tweet was still conveyed. I mean it's it's splendid agra. I mean it's just ticking. All the boxes isn't it. it's encore agra. it's press conference. I grow it's passive aggressive tweet. After the fact i grow. Ding ding led to much studio discussion between annabel crofton and chiasso. Von which are found highly entertaining watching casteran conducting the conversation and Yeah i mean people. Taking sides radius to as to what could do about bathroom breaks and the issue of some tennis courts. Having toilets right next to them does not whether you should allow In terms of a break at the end of set so not And and inevitably players got asked about impasse. Press conferences one. That really took my. I was that a variety of palca Who after winning his straight sets today and he played very well. By the way could draw poker. He came in and he was quite. He's quite engaging opening in the way and says questions and then about two thirds of the way through he was asked. I want to ask you about breaks whether you think that could be or should be any update to the rule and he goes yeah. I think it's ridiculous like i understand. It's getting press because tennessee. Lame and tennis media sucks and terrible. But i think stephanou sits bass. It's hot and humid for the media. The press that have never stepped foot on a tennis court. The life have never been in the environment. Couldn't last thirty minutes out in this humidity and in this hate is physical as sport is my shoes at dripping. They're leaking sweat change or go to sets. We're drinking we're hydrating. We've got to use the bathroom to change my socks shoes. My inserts and mushoo short shit everything the whole nine yards. It takes five or six minutes. And i don't know about sits pass but i doubt he's getting coached highly doubt it. I mean he's just not having it from from people in the media asking him about the situation. The thing is though without andy murray say exactly that and he does surely know basically what he's talking about that was what i didn't understand about that answer from a palca. This is not just come about because the tennis media fail like talking about it. This has come about because andy murray in that match brought it up and continues to bring it up. Yeah and lots of other players are weighing in on it with similar views meals. Row niche tweeted today. Andy murray's right dominic team on the tennis channel. It was slightly more measured and watered. Down than what andy murray had to say. But it was still broadly supportive of his assertion that the rules need to change because they're to subject to exploitation Yeah i mean it's mostly nonsense what riley palca has to say. They're no cases. It might take me five. Six minutes to to change my sweatpants. Well he took a thirty minute Boston break in canada And as you know said it many times before no one needs me to to continue to bang on about my feelings about toilets. But i i i find. Find the debate often and as confirmed by republican states so disappointing in sort of the parameters within which it's conducted but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be a debate. I mean the situation at the moment is unsatisfactory. Annabel croft was arguing today. The bathroom breaks should be done away with altogether. She said you know. You just never need the lou while you're playing tennis much and i have heard other professionals and ex-professional same at the you just you're sweating so much that you a new game to get onto. It was good to be unavoidable to to to to get into toilet based detail. But yeah you don't need to we I can see the argument. I could see. I can see a case for it on the men's side. I absolutely think it would be unethical to implement on the women's side. I personally don't want somebody lose a tennis match because they've had a curry the night before. So i will extrapolate that way you wherever you'd like to like. I don't think you should do away with bathroom breaks. I don't know what the solution is. I don't feel comfortable with a with a time. Limit certainly for women but equally. I don't feel comfortable with the situation that we've got now. And and and yeah. And andy murray said said in his press Quite picked up on last night that he and.

"At whole foods natural grocers sprouts or central market a decade of learning. You're listening to one life radio. All right everyone. Happy fabulous friday brought to you by casteran politics. It's a company that i've used for years. And they are america's number one organic pet food with mostly i with most comprehensive portfolio of purposeful foods using sustainably sourced ingredients such as wild caught salmon and grass-fed beef. And i didn't know this. Dr ruth and until i During the break. I pulled up my little package of organic the organic cookies. That you guys make that. It's not only are all the ingredients organic and free range chicken. It also is cooked in an organically certified usa kitchen. That's pretty cool. Oh yeah absolutely. That's what helps us to maintain our. Usda certification as they have all not only the ingredients that that we put in there but then also the whole entire baking process and everything has to be up to the usda organic codes in order for us to keep that label on there. Well i know my my furry furry pets my children my children. They appreciate it. I'm a little sleep deficient. Forgive me today. But you know. I also i want to thank you. You know i want to thank you. I want to thank casteran politics for being a supporter of one life. Radio as you heard. We just celebrated our tenth year and we could not do it. dr ruth without great sponsors like casteran. Pollock's i thank you all of you there at castro pollock's from the bottom of my heart. I really do because. I think that this information that we get out to people weekly and we have for ten years is so important to protect the animals that we love so much. So thank you. you're welcome. We're we're happy to be in partnership and i and i love like it says in my by truly love being able to share the power of nutrition with parents. So great venue to be able to do that. Well thank you and it is true nutritionists everything it really is and today. We're talking with dr ruth and lobos. Who is the lead veterinarian for merrick. Pet care As i said. The makers of our friday sponsor castro in politics organic and responsibly. Sourced pet food knowing signs of stress. In your pets so you know how how. How do we know if they're stress. Because you know a of a lot of animals hide win their stress too. Don't they to to cover it up so to speak exactly. So that's that's certainly one sign Right there especially our cats Is something is wrong or you know just kinda off-balance for them They will oftentimes go. Go and hide and and try to find their their quote unquote safe place to be Other times we'll see While we're you know we're focusing on the cat that sometimes they over groom so they'll just sit there and they'll and they'll lick and lincoln an oftentimes you know. They can look themselves almost ball either on their bellies or their their pods You know dogs. We'll see where they They start. they may start acting out so they may start. Doing the baseboards or you again. Similar to the cats either you know looking in one spot on themselves or chewing on their tail or doing something like that Unfortunately we see especially in episodes of acute stress. So you know other things that i mentioned earlier that can be stressful for. Pets are big thunderstorms or you know. Thankfully where we've got a break from the fireworks for a little bit but nearly fireworks are loud noises. That just seem in their minds seems to come from nowhere and are really loud disturbing Construct them out and in an acute Things like that. We can sometimes see that they get gi upset So you know if They might have you know. Have the runs. Has this guy area Things maybe sometimes even vomiting just depending on how intense that that stress is and how it affects their gi tract. But those are. They're kind of the myriad of of stressful things that that will be well. What about boredom my dog love. He's actually in studio. He says hello. I'm not gonna put him on the mike you know. I feel like he is so bored. That maybe that's a sign of stress. When i put them out in the backyard. You know because he has a tendency to get a little territorial tort territorial over the food sometimes. I won't let him out with all the other dogs. And when i don't he gets into everything like every cushion that he can find every pillow. Whatever i have out there he finds it. he's throwing it in the air chewing it up throwing it in the pool. Is that a sign of stress to like the board. Don't so i. I would chatting with someone just recently about Having cameras around. So i think which i was like you know. There's there's one side that's that's kind of creepy but in this in this case for our pets oftentimes if you can see what how. They're acting on camera It can be an indication in watching their body language while they're on camera if maybe they're having actually having fun and so he like just having a ball taking you know taking your cushions throwing them up and we can look at throwing up in the air and and all of that and we can look and watch you know is their tail wagging you. They have a you know a happy expression on their or you know. Are there pupil super dilated. and they. and they're kinda scared and they're frantically digging at the at the pillows and that's what destroys them so the first one is you know he's having a ball. He's taken the foam and throwing it everywhere and he's running around you pouncing on it. That's having fun versus you. Know that kind of Stress digging sort of thing with the tail tucked and like. Oh i gotta get out of here. I gotta get out of your. That would be definitely assigned. They're stressed and so oftentimes when you know 'cause sometimes we'll see like that separation anxiety sort of name and but and that's what owners will call it. And i'm like well wait. You know. maybe he is having fun. And that's where those cameras can actually play a really important role in helping us to guide How we approach helping with those. Those behavioral changes that they're seeing well. I think you might be right. I think he's having a little too much in fact and what did you say that about the ball. I'm looking at him right now. He's got this orange and blue ball that he has finally broken through the fabric and he is just having a blast like just just digging and throwing it all over the studio hair chewing on the ball but he's just sees the active to and so it is important. You know a lot of people. Forget that if you've got a dog that likes to chew please. You know understand that they are going to get get to a shoe or something in order to satisfy that craving or that need to chew right and people need to get them chew toys correct right yes exactly. I call that setting them up for success. Yes ed part of you know part of the reason why you know my my two of my dogs those rigs and finn. You know when i leave they go down in the kennel because actually having more space for them out in in roaming around in the house Does stress them out and then they they tend to make bad choices and destroy things and and all that having their safe place to kind of set them up. I sixty s in making.

"Kinda gone in florida. By the time. I was in middle school. I remember music class. When i was a kid. I haven't thought about it over. Quarter learns i loved it. Well it brings you it. Brings you out of your shell. It teaches you kind of like public. Speaking kind of except you're not speaking. You're playing an instrument though and that's out there and you have to. You know absolutely not you have to learn to be. You have to be able to be in a band and work as a group and you also have to be able to work on a solo level. So i think there's a lot that you can learn from music. Yeah no i. I completely agree. Well you know you work up from the same. I'd rather be dead than have no music in my life. I'm serious. i'm super serious. If i've said this many times on the air on an island and i had to pick between music and food. I would pick music and i would eat. They're they're all very hard working Me too hard working and smart. Yes yes and hard working. Yeah those that's me too all right. Well sometimes i feel like the dumb one in my friend group. So they're all smarter than me. That's for sure. I can't. I can't do dumb i don't care i don't care what you know like like these people that date and they you know they the first thing they think about is what a person look. Looks like. it's like. Are you kidding me after you gotta grow out of that. Oh my gosh like yeah. Kill me now i mean why would you wanna spend the rest of your life with somebody dumb. I mean i just don't even get it. I don't care how good looking they are. So i guess we're good right. You want to go to break and then we'll get a stephanie center on the on the line we can do that. Yeah sure right. It was fun and it's fun to to kind of think about those things. Just the cool thing about that game is just kind of throwing things out there and you kind of you know. "Believe that is a higher self figure that can that that part about the indestructible -bility trauma being separated from your self that the myths talking about. It's not necessarily as clear is not as clear of an argument here but the fact that the midst are talking about a higher self one of the pieces of evidence that i go to the most is the prevalence of twins. Twins is different from having to mothers of but this kind of dual nature to to mothers also has to do with lower self in higher self sometimes or as. You pointed out mortal in immortal. Twins are often mortal immortal as well. Casteran pollock's gilgamesh is two-thirds divine. Anki do is more mortal in inky goes down to the underworld in the gilgamesh epic again. Casteran politics caster. Goes down into the underworld in politics. Says the zeus father is there any way i can share some money mortality with him in zoo says yes but you'll have to share some of his mortality while it's not to people it's not talking about two people there's not too twins that's you. You have multiple aspects of who you are in part of that is a divine higher self an indestructible higher self. That's the midst of trying to point you towards that with stories. And so i believe that dyonisis with his two mothers and with his two natures has to do with our higher self he's in his indestructible aspects. Has to do with our higher self in connection with wine in spirits is like it has to do with tapping into can be what suppresses are higher self. Well how do we get. Disconnected from higher. Self was through trauma is through in. There certainly are ready as you can see lots of trauma in the story. No guy yeah for sure. Got being torn torn to pieces in the goddess hera wants him dead and his mother got burned to a crisp because of his doubt. There's doubt doubt is in the story. Doubt is in the story a lot when it comes to being separated from your higher self doubting thomas. I talked about this a lot but also doubting arjun in the battle of kurukshetra in the bog about guitar. Arjun is filled with doubt before the battle. He says the krishna. I don't think i can go on. I don't think i can fight this battle. I don't know what to do. And then krishna gives him the bahgdad gita the song of the lord. Krishna is the higher self figure in fact fish and it has a lot of characteristics that are similar to diagnosis christmas. Actually an avatar of vishnu. Vishnu vishnu i. Show with a lot of evidence in the ancient world wide system. That's the two thousand nineteen bucks that goes through a lot of ancient india ancient egypt. I've been writing about the connections between the missing the stars for a long time. Been writing about how these twins picture for us this divine self but it really started to become more understandable to me when started to hear the teachings of psychologists like dr gabor matej dr richard schwartz. Who talked about trauma in trauma is caused by these terrible things. That happen to us. But that's not the actual if you listen to the teachings of dr gabor matting. He'll say the trauma was not actually those things that happen to you when you're little or whenever they happen to you if it was that would be actually impossible affairs because you can't go back in time to when you were three with. The trump is actually the result of those things that happened in the result was separation from yourself. "Other and are willing to help. Yeah well you know. And i misspoke again to. It wasn't cable network news. I can't remember the name of of marks. i what what was on cable. Do you know what i'm talking about. You're probably too young. I dunno junior if you remember. But but but mark cuban had twenty. I you know when he first bought the mavericks he has show the mark cuban show and anyway i can't remember i said i said cable network news. It wasn't cable network. News that cnn. I'm i don't know what i'm thinking out but just wanted to correct myself there but okay. So what advice you know kristie you have for someone wanting to turn an idea into a business. Yes yeah for sure I can ask that question all the time. I did it in how i think it is a great way to do. It is to start small scarred as a side hustle and improve it first before you go all in on it so That's that's how done it with with both businesses My wife started extremely small. I think she spent five hundred dollars to start the business I shake it was the same way though. started as a side hustle and idea that i had I invested what i thought was you know a very small amount at that time To get it started in one house able to then prove the model and get to a place where i could support myself off that income that i went all in and that point to go all in and be ready for a lot of ups and downs roller coaster ride but You know be passionate about what you're doing. That's kind of how i how side-hustle starts to find something you love doing and then find a way to make money in what you love doing For me it was working out on the ice. The bottle itself out. I never thought that was going to be my way into sports and fitness and it worked out but You know just from passionate and gladly do and i just kind of stumbled upon the opportunity and then went all on it so That's that's what i tell people. Just be bashing about what you're doing started all you don't need a brand new idea with all these crazy pants and stuff are you need to do is is start small find a way to make it work and they build on it right because you've got to keep your expenses really low. You know maybe unless you and you don't i typically. I don't think unless you're go. Hey shark tank is different but typically partnerships. Don't work that well and it's always good to just keep it small right. Keep your expenses low. And then you don't have all that additional pressure on you right did you. Did you have. Did you feel a lot of pressure initially when you started your company. You're a little scared at first if knock is The second company was you know the money out spending on it was just not even anything that would make a dent in what we what we had so No that's i feel comfortable doing it. It wasn't a lot I think maybe my first purchase with setting everything up ten thousand dollars At that point. So i didn't go crazy with it It wasn't anything that. If i lost that money wasn't gonna lose my house or anything like that. So comfortable amount for us and and that's why there wasn't any pressure there as well That's kind of in you really. You could start anywhere. It just takes longer more money upfront. Sometimes but you can always start as small as possible and just keep building and building money back into it. And i remember when we opened the first piece of patrol. We didn't even we didn't chris. We didn't even have the money to finish the counter but we we had the oven and we had to make table and we and we paid the rent. We opened the doors and we start selling pizza. You know and then you know ten years into that came with wingstop and the rest is history but you know it we start small. You know and it's funny. You know you start with with plane boxes. "Take us through those two years. How did you know that you would because again. I want the headline from for my listeners. Understand that you broke the four minute mile in high school. This is an unbelievable thing. It wasn't until roger bannister in the fifties broke the four minute mile. He was views after college. I guess he was already a surgeon or something doctor. But you did. This is a high schooler and two years before you'd never run. So what were those two years like suddenly discovering this talent well to begin with it was very very painful Whether if your listeners you may have had them to shin-splints. I had shin-splints the first six weeks that iran which is basically very painful for every step you take somehow a god gave me the perseverance to go through their And then i finally made see the last place on the c team. We had three levels across country is go. Abmc was the last person on the c team and then this phenomenal thing happened here within the next six weeks by the time we get to the state meet. I ended up being on the varsity team and finished sixth in the state meeting cross country and i was elated. I thought this is grand It was grand is because one of my goals was to make the team When away other goals was to get a girlfriend. And i got a letter. Jack and girlfriend in jack went together but it didn't so that was kind of the beginning for me very infants steps and then this phenomenal thing happened in the next six months where i went from a five thirty eight mile to a four zero seven mile which i still find it hard to believe i see your eyes opping well because i think i could have run a five thirty eight mile when i was younger now. I'm not kidding but that's it you know. Maybe maybe if i had trained i could've gone it down to five twenty years. I don't know but the idea that you had the ability to become one of the greatest milers in the history of

"It felt like at the time and would federal gang. Those the does your options casteran which of those if any would you change the outcome of will the only question embedded within those options that i feel really confident about answering is whether venus williams would have retired had she wanted twenty seven wimbledon final. I feel very confidently. The answer to that is not winning major titles adding to her adding to her tally and her greatness. i don't think has been her ultimate aim for longtime even going back to two twenty thousand seventeen as much as she would have daily loved that title. I definitely don't think she would have would have retired at that stage. I i would have loved to get that title even more so now than i would have at the time that is. I'm going to steal a line here. But that is one of the most under appreciated tennis seasons. Venus williams in two thousand seventeen it is not talked about enough what she did at thirty seven years of age. Thirty thirty six slash thirty seven. I think she turned thirty. Seven that year. Yeah a truly extraordinary tennessee's reaching the australian. Open final losing to serena reaching the wimbledon final these into mcgary th and the the. Us open semifinals as well. So i would love venus to have that one. Even though i i think of the three of the of the three options. That's the one that would least change tennis. History lee skew. The time line in a different direction to to how it's ended up going. I would also who i would love serena to to don the calendar slam in twenty fifteen. Look i. i loved that story. In the moment the drama serena losing that much to roberta vinci. I was the it was exhilarating. I can almost still feel the adrenalin coursing through my veins that was happening and it was all unfolding and there was the reaction there. Was patrick more totally giving impromptu press conference in a car park with serena whizzing past us straight into a car. It was all just a rush and it was really romantic. Story the will italian final and panetta winning it. But i would love serena to have done that calendar slam whether shoot retired i. I don't know. I still think still think she would have been driven by wanting to come back and win a slam. After having her daughter. I do think that is as much of a driver for her. Certainly significant driver in tandem with the number twenty four. And i think both because of what that would mean the message that would send an. I suspect she. She wants her daughter to see and remember her lifting grand slam trophy so again would retire which she still be playing in that tournament she might not still be playing in twenty twenty one but i certainly don't think she would have retired there and then in twenty fifteen so that's a very long winded by saying if i had to choose one. Probably cheese vinci serena twin. Would choose that. Also without a moment's hesitation and i feel bad because roberta vinci that day i think played an spellbinding couple of tennis. Where i don't think serena williams handed had that much she could do this. She was playing she. She went through all of the various stages in a match and none of them. None of them could overcome vinci. He was just amazing in that match. I feel bad for flavia panetta. Who who won the title. And had that moment but serena williams winning completing the grand slam and i i call it that. That's it's original name winning all four and a year. I've never seen that i. I sort of vaguely remember that steffi. Graf done it but i i wasn't watching tennis closely enough to have seen it. And i feel like serena deserved to to do that once in her career really and it would have yeah it would have probably put to bed. The the cumulative title number race with margaret court for good and that probably would have happened. And be all done and dusted..

"They stop after a few minutes. Because you know you're not gonna come back of the things we'll say is you know you're gonna eventually come back but not come right. Back is like two to three times. Forget something like we all forget something and i'm back in the house so most of the time they don't really if you go like so basically when you're li firstly the house. He may bark or cry. But you know you practice getting ready to leave the shoes keys-in-hand next walk out the door. Like you wait like thirty seconds or so walked back in if And i know like me. I forget my keys on back in or then i'll run back in. Continue to add time driving around the first time going to get coffee. Then the grocery store that hell helping him to learn self soothing including skills While you're gone starting with very short time slowly increasing that now that we're getting ready to go back to work. Your dogs have been home so slowly gradually increasing this you can look into a nanny cam We have lots of people that will use nanny camps. Where you can talk back to your dog. So if it's getting stressed out you can talk. I'll talk to my and you can see them up like oh he mommy okay. Careful using for burgos if the dog crate. Because if you really so treat out those really citrates and he can't get it. They will get frustrated that they can't get it. Yeah so what about what about. What are those pa- pardon the interruption about the pet q. That's a really good way to talk to you too to right. Yeah any of those things like having interactive toys in there. Like my in my. I have a couple of my like in my puppy pens. I have like baby toys that you put like in a crab or in stroller. Some of those that are like we have that are dog friendly. They're gerbil i hang them. And i have hooked so that my puppies have interactive stuff to do. And they're probably pen in their crazy. So a lotta times puppies. I i have. There have created hook to a Poppy pen so they have the puppy pen to run. But at night. I train them to all go in the chronicle and they get the door shut at night and in the morning i let them so that they learn that you know creating it really if you get a puppy. It's good to do a lot of that structured stuff and it's not bad like people like i would never create my doc. It is okay. Actually they in joy that saved confined space there sometimes when they're bored and then they up your couch or two of your line. You know one thing to say and i didn't. I didn't say this earlier when you get some of these dogs that especially a street dog outside And you a lot of people. Like oh i lock them. In the bedroom. Dogs have a. They don't realize that is a and they feel trapped so they don't realize the back door opens to infant like that that. Oh i'm just in here. And i'm safe navy like they're trapped and they can't move especially dog who's been able to roam and have free access to places you know so the door sometimes as axes a huge barrier. And so they'll come home. And they'll chew the baseboards the load of the window and they go to the blinds and they do the door. And they're like are so destructive if that's all they're chewing their chewing for an escape they're trying to find a way out because they don't know where whether people are scared they're nervous and they might hear like voices and things like that out there so they're trying to get out so you can choose something like a puppy gay so they can see through the door if you're going to put him into a room so that they have access to seeing like oh there's something out there. I've not traveled by. I can't get out right really important. 'cause we see it a lot where they chewed up the window and you know and i'm like well because they feel like the barriers blocking them and that's what is to them too. That's why the small small dosages right. What i'm looking at the clock. We've only got like two minutes before. I have to go to break and there's so much to cover here. There really is a lot of things one of the things. I wanna put. Music therapy works to the spotify. Actually has curated curated playlists to help. Calm down calm down anxious like lavender They have common collars. We have some dvd cd. Oil is good too often. he treats i mean There's so much i mean you know. And if they need any resources you can always I'll put this out there as hello dallas dogar you email hello at dallas. Do g. r. dot ahrq. We're happy to send out any resources. we do. community trainings. We do help the community as well. So if you're struggling reach out to a local rescue or Sometimes your bet as well can give you two options. Don't just think there's nothing out there to help of resources there is. And there's calming vasan. Jackets and creams and i shout out for. I don't know if you've ever used heavenly hounds of little relaxation squares. I use those for my dogs. I'm you know they really do. I think they have passion flower. Valerian root and some other stuff in it that are all natural and their peanut butter so my dogs eat. 'em like their candy Okay so we've only got like one minute. Well let's put out one more thing. Okay resource guarding. What is that carting. Where they're protecting their toy or the rally. They food okay. Resource guarding is kind of like and. Then that's where we talk about several things if they're really super pick up all the toys and they only have limited access to it. I think separate them for feeding sometimes in the beginning. You can be sensitized tons of them out there so there isn't there isn't enough to fight over like you're not fighting over it but that's something you have to be really really careful. That is one thing. I will say that you really need to talk to somebody. Because if they do have severe resource starting they can buy but they can also start a fight with the resident dog or vice ran happens away. No you know. I know i had. It happened in my house just discovery in the last couple of weeks love. Okay my dog love. He's got that he's he's he. He was on the street for a month. And the walmart parking lot you know scout scouring ranching for food and the attendant was feeding on but i had just realized that he got very territorial about the dog that when he was eating and got into a fight with mic. My old dog at the dog bowl. Thankfully i was right there so you know it didn't it didn't get bad but you have to and i've had him for months and i just now discovered that about him because i also over people over attention like that is another one like they've not had it so all the sudden your and i always say if you're the person that gets that dog off the street they become super attached to that provider. Or the you know. Or they attached that sometimes when another dog comes up. They're like no and they will growl and or other people they don't like to share with other people either just to keep that in mind. It's not all of it for the most part is treatable and fixable a little bit of time and not doesn't take a lot well. I appreciate all the work that you do at dallas. "What kind of recipes could one expect was flipping through the pages. Yeah So the book starts off its classic comfort food meal. So i do kinda get you covered with your cross sick roast shepherd's pie My swedish meatballs have been like hugely popular like lightened. F stroganoff So you know there are those classic recipes for those that are looking for that but then we kinda get into like in early inspired flavors. I find that italian flavors Mexican flavors and sound like asian fusion flavors pair. Really well generally things. That are really bold and flavorful and bright work well with venison. That's what you can expect but what you know. This makes this book a little different. I have an entire chapter on soups and salads. So it's lender fair. And then i actually have an entire chapter on appetizers and even breakfast. Because you know you don't unless you're like eating previously smoked sausages like. I don't really think i ever used to eat for breakfast. But you could make like really these really yummy blueberry breakfast sausage patties and my my daughter loves them she's She's ten months old going on like twenty five. She has the culinary appetite of Someone much older but she really enjoys things like that. But we love the way both ranchera Kind of inspired from a spot that we went to in jackson hole on our honeymoon. So there's some different things. And then the last chapter. It's actually Just sides and kind of condiments only. Because i feel like with a wild game cookbook. You might think. It's just like means. And i didn't want everybody to have to go like find broccoli recipe on the internet. So it's like my favorite salad. Favorite kinda couscous. Solid is in there Outrageous black pepper herb biscuits and red onions because pickled red onions Go on everything now is for that. I'm asked pink or red onions and living. Yeah yes. They're so good. So i can't have venison cookbook without that so i just wanted to be kind of like the rest of the cookbook that you just need having your kitchen For those you know. I don't have. I do have a jerky recipe in there. But there's no like sausages. There's really no smoking recipes. It is just something that you do with the dutch oven. Casteran pan a really good. Chef's knife apparent nice and a cutting board that's really i need and some basic pantry staples like olive oil. Italian seasoning. Red wine vinegar lemon garlic all that jazz so cubans skysufer which is straightforward kind of saw a little hole in the market there So i wanted to fill it. Nice well we thank you. Thank you for that. It helps the continuity of the consumption of wild game is awesome. So you mentioned earlier where we can get your book and i mentioned as well but Can you remind us where we can pick up.
