All right, we've got some time before our next live races were about ten minutes away horses still in the paddock with ten minutes to go for the fourth San Anita and we've got about 17 minutes for the 8th race over at Oakland as we came out of break. We heard the stretch run of the 2005 edition of the swale stakes one impressively by lost in the fog. It was the first time that lost in the fog had run in a graded stake. He actually began his career career at Golden Gate and went to turf Paradise and then went a small stake at Gulfstream park, but the swale, a grade two event in 2005, was his first graded stakes win, and I don't know if you remember lost in the fog, but he actually started his career. I think winning ten races in a row. He won the bay shore, he won the reaver ridge in 2005. He came down for the summit of speed. It Calder and won that impressively. He ended up winning the king's bishop. Couldn't get the job done his first loss ended up in the breeders cup sprint in 2005. And then he just wasn't kind of the same horse after that. He did get one more stakes when the aristides, I believe, at Churchill downs in 2006, but came back to Calder for the summit of speed and the smile in 2006 and ran up the track and we never saw him again, but he was brilliant, most of his career, one of the fastest horses that I've seen. And for connections that you didn't expect, you know, those kind of connections for running around the country, Greg gilchrist, who had always been a high percentage trainer in Northern California, was not really very well known around the country. The folks in Northern California, of course, knew him very, very well. And the forks and Southern California knew him somewhat because, you know, he'd run some horses down in Southern California, but it was pretty strange for Northern California horses or horsemen to, let's face it, have horses good enough to not only compete in, but be major players in graded stakes outside of California. It just did not happen all that often. And Greg gilchrist taking lost in the fog on the road, Russell baze was his regular rider and they want a whole lot of races. I think he won 11 out of his 14 career starts in just under a $1 million in his career. Now, that race that lost in the fog won in 2005, as I mentioned, was the swale stakes, swale himself, was a little bit more well known than the loss in the fog. Of course, he was the 1984 Kentucky Derby champion. He also won the Belmont that year, and we didn't get to see him run after that. But to swale one of the traditional one word named cleburne farm runners, and this is one that they not only bred, but they owned woody Stevens, the trainer, lafitte pinka, the regular writer of swale and lafitte's lone Kentucky Derby win was aboard swale in 1984. He himself, another horse that was just a wind machine, a model of consistency, 14 career starts 9 wins, two seconds, two thirds. The only time he did not hit the board was a 7th place finish in the Preakness in 1984, but he was really, really good as a two year old and a three year old, won the Saratoga special, won the futurity, won the breeders futurity at keeneland. He won a race at the end of the year at Meadowlands when they used to run thoroughbred races. I think called the young America, which was a grade one race, I think, at the time he ended up winning the Florida Derby two in 1984. So rightly so that Gulfstream park has a race named in his honor, and it goes as part of a 5 stakes race mega card tomorrow at Gulfstream park. Now this is, it's holy bull day. That's how they kind of marketed at Gulfstream park. And it doesn't have quite the star power quite the crowds that a Florida Derby day has or a fountain of youth day has had or certainly like the Pegasus card that we saw last weekend. But let's face it. They got 5 great stakes tomorrow at Gulfstream park. It's going to be another fun card in hallandale beach Dave and I, by the way, Dave Freeman and I will talk about all 5 of those stakes coming up about an hour from now 6 p.m. Eastern Time as part of the weekend stakes preview. The swale stakes over the years and this is a race that started in 1985 and who better to win it in 1985 than chiefs crown with Don Macbeth award. The race was ungraded the first several years. By the way, they didn't run the race in 87, but chiefs crown won an 85 seeking the gold one at an 88 easycore one at 89. They said, you know what? This race probably should be graded. Look at these horses that are winning this race and starting in 1990, it became a grade three. And it went down to a great two for about 6 or 8 years back about 15 years ago, and it's kind of wavered between grade two and grade three ever since, but House buster, DJ Kat, mister Greeley favorite trick, trippy, some of the names that have won this race, of course, lost in the fog. We heard that one. The funny bone won the race in 2010, Trinity Berg really really fast horse for best math part, we wonder how many of you could have come up with bisp as the trainer of Trinity Berg as I don't think he's that he trains horses anymore. More recently, my prankster won the race last year, drained the clock a nice sprinter for safi Joseph a couple of years ago and mischievous Alex who was a nice horse as well for John service winning the race in 2020 this year's edition of the swale is an interesting handicapping dilemma because we're probably going to have a solid favorite in the race and I'm interested to see what Dave Friedman thinks about this.

"That that has been one of that. Has been one of the biggest things that i feel like i've learned as a grownup quote unquote like of picking your battles. But it's also something that i feel like i'm still constantly learning because i think i react very quickly and sometimes if i don't like take a beat i will have a reaction to something that i like 'em subsequently lake doesn't really matter you know what i mean like. I'm great strong reaction to this. Or you know if i if i like dash off an email because i'm like mad about something and then later i'm like i probably didn't probably need to say it that way you doing. But at least unlike cognizant of it but yeah right. It's just like if you had a paper trail for every reaction. Look at all the ones that like would have made that make you cringe and be like i could have just. I just breathe a little bit. I love that. My husband. And i watched key the other night. And i'm not like super into marvel steph site only watched a couple episodes Kind of lost. Because i feel like if you are not like super familiar with the marvel canon. It's kind of like what is happening. But there was one part where this isn't really spoiler but like lucky is present. It's i think it happened in the first episode locates presented with a stack of paper of everything he ever said. Oh my gosh and that kind of it. Just like i mean. They've been similar sayings on other shows like the good place has a whole running saying about. You know how everything you do is like there's a record for it and i think obviously like also like a cornerstone of like a lot of religions. "Of just kind of have a lot of time i'll take a nap But like i said. I'd like to clean it organize apartment. That's how i feel productive. That's how i get going. I hate going to work on monday with a messy place. It drives me absolutely insane. And i feel like i can't really settle in at work and feel good about it if i know that i'm going to return home to a just a dungeon of mess in so i always try to just make sure that i'm clean and organized and that everything in my home life is settled so that i can make sure that everything at work is in focus when i actually get their. Sundays are meant for selfishness. So do what you wanna do. Not what others impose on you and you know what i'm talking about especially if you watch or follow. Cnbc on twitter when they tweet out those columns every week our next question. Do you have any tips for planning a uk trip when very unfamiliar with the uk. I've only been to the uk twice in fifth grade with my family and in twenty twenty over the holidays. What we did was that we arrived and we spent three days in london. We took the train to edinburgh for a couple of days. We rented a house in the scottish highlands and then we took a train back down to london for the remaining days of vacation. We did it this way because we definitely want to get kinda. Get the holiday spirit for christmas and properly. Do london overall. We wanted to go to restaurants that we had heard about pubs. We wanted to go see some touristy stuff. Even though we didn't do that much touristy stuff we still did go. See the sights. And we've never been to scotland before so that was kind of paramount on my trip planning. I definitely wanted to go to london. But heading north and seeing a new place that i had never seen before was definitely at the top of my list and what i really want to see. The scenery of the highlands in addition to just visiting edinburgh would my parents had gone before and and really talked about it in a positive manner and so it was just kind of something that meant a little bit to me. Because i knew that it meant a lot to my parents and and it was a great trips that they had taken there and so it just made sense And train travel was honestly so easy that we had no choice but to do it and one tip that. I will give you if you're traveling by train across the uk is that you should spring for the first class ticket. It's one hundred percent worth it. It's not that much added on when you're already travelling over there and just believe me for numerous reasons. It just makes way more sense to do a first class ticket and you will thank yourself some actual other tips that i have just prioritize what you wanna do whether you want to go to the city the countryside if you wanna do touristy things or go off the map one thing i did. Beforehand is watch a lot of youtube videos. I've actually taken recently to this guy. And i don't know how popular he is. But based on how many views his videos do i think. He's pretty popular and his name. Is rick steves. He's a little corny. But that's kind of why i like it. And he goes off. The beaten path sometimes takes you to different foreign countries and goes through stuff and his tutorials throughout london. Scotland and the rest of the uk are just great and when we did prioritize what we wanted to do. We made a list of restaurants who wanted to go to early on and we made reservations. We ask different friends where we should go and it just made it a lot easier for us to cancel reservations if we needed to. I don't even think we cancelled any and we made made pretty much all of them but it just made it a lot easier. The number one thing. I will say that we did that. Made things very very nice for us was that we walked pretty much everywhere especially in london. It gave us a different view than taking the tube. It allowed us to stop in places that we just thought looked interesting that we didn't really have plans to go to. And if we did feel rushed we would take an uber somewhere just to make sure that we weren't in in you know finding ourselves stranded somewhere some other things that we did that. I didn't really take into account. Beforehand was iron out the logistical issues. I mean will. You went in the middle of winter which means that the daylight hours are just super short. And everything's very cold. This especially affected us. We went up to scotland because the days were just so incredibly short that we had to make sure to make the most out of those daylight hours whether we were just taking walks doing some exploring or especially if we're driving somewhere. We didn't want to really be driving in the dark on the other side of the road and so it just made sense When it came to flights we wanted to make sure that we are doing a flight that would set us up for success. The second we landed. We had a direct flight from austin to london which allowed us to sleep the entire flight and wake up. I think at ten. Am london time when we got there and be completely refreshed and so we had the entire day in london. We didn't really deal jetlag that much and it just made it very easy something. We didn't take into account. That was a logistical. Issue was packing. We packed way too much. That's a trait of mine. That i'm not proud of but it's a trade of mine that i don't know i can shake. We did move around a lot on our trip because we wanted to pack so much in and it became annoying to have so much luggage with us. If we could have just packed one suitcase. I wish we could have but given the boots that we had to bring for. You know the walks and going around Jackets for the wintertime. It was just difficult. The one thing. I would advise you to do. Especially if you like. Drinking guinness is to learn the guinness game. I was something that i had seen on Noling ups tourist sauce but it was also something that i had friends who played it in the uk and they just absolutely loved it on your first try of drinking a pint of guinness you have to drink enough to where the black of the pint is directly in line with the line in the middle of the g the guinness. It's a very fun game. It's something that i enjoy doing. Every single time. He walked into a pub. And it's it's just fun so hopefully enjoy your trip to the uk. I apologize of my advice was not up to snuff our next question. I love writing but struggle to do it unprompted. Do you have any tips if you're not familiar with my work history. I wasn't writer and editor before doing podcasting fulltime. I began really writing seriously in two thousand. Thirteen the ways that i stroked my enjoyment of doing it was that i would always keep a running list of topics ideas certain phrases that i liked. If i just thought of a funny sentence that i thought was entertaining. I would just write it down and kind of build something around it. It was just always keeping that list because a lot of the times. You're struck with inspiration but you don't have the memory to remember every single thing that you of that inspiration that you had and so you you have to keep a list of things or you're just gonna kick yourself when you sit down and you can't write anything and you have writer's block. I also would highly suggest. Even if you don't put it out into the world writing some fiction about things that you can relate to closely ill allows you to just kinda hone your skills talking about things that you know without actually just trying to be factual about everything. It's just a nice writing exercise. That i always did in really practice does make perfect when it comes to all of this It's writing is a skill worth honing. And it's something. I need to do now more than ever. I've written less over the last couple of years. And i haven't i don't know in a really really really long time Something i've started to do a little bit more recently. In something i hesitate to do too much is reading other people's writing for inspiration. The reason. I say that i'm doing it. A lot now is to kind of get inspired and get more into it but the issue with it is that. I don't think that it's healthy to just read one person's writing all the time because you just begin to mimic them and that's not something you want to do. Something i recently read was cassie. David larry david's daughter her book. No one asks for this. And i have to say her writing. It was great and hilarious. And kind of in the same vein of things that i like to do and it was inspiring because i was like man. She's doing a lot better job of writing about this than i ever could have. And it was a little bit inspiring some other tips. I have or don't force it and don't be afraid to scrap things right essays responses to other people's writing or if you're really strapped just do a journal all writing is not meant for public consumption. So just do some journaling and try to get some stuff out there. Repetition repetition repetition my number one rule though is if you've got nothing to write just don't bother writing it will only be good if you're inspired and you want to do it so forcing it or writing about things that aren't genuine is just a way to kind of get yourself into trouble.
