Two minutes worth of destruction. And it is so sad. I just was looking at drone footage of it. Hey, everybody, Kate Delaney. That's the president talking about Lee county specifically that Alabama community of Beauregard killing twenty three people the tornadoes and tornadoes that we're also deadly hitting Georgia and parts of Florida too. It's gonna take a while to get that community back on its feet. That's for certain. And like, I said, you got feel for them not something that you want to have happen in your world where just knocks you off your feet, and that's exactly what it looked like. And I've seen tornadoes, and this was no little cloud. I mean, this was giant the way that it ripped through there. And the description of what it sounds like. Like a train coming right on top of you. That's pretty much what the people suffered. So they think the more people will be found, unfortunately, dead and that death toll will rise. And they're going to be doing this recovery thing for a while in Lee county, Alabama deadliest tornado outbreak, and they say fifty years fifty years in area. News of a different sort. Here is sweet kick it all over the place. The president and the wall what's next for the wall? We know is bouncing to the Senate. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell has made it pretty clear to the press that he is a choice. Move ahead with the national emergency at the southern border and face a potential blowback from his own party or just kind of shift gears. The Senate is likely to pass a resolution to block the emergency, declaration fact, the votes are there. That's not it's not gonna happen. That means a veto the president is threatening to veto that resolution if it reaches his desk, then if congress approves of a measure that would Mark kind of a turning point in his presidency. It'd be the first time he had a veto. And it would put him definitely squaring off with other Republicans in his people in his own party. And that was one of the key things. He promised in the two thousand sixteen presidential campaign that Mexico would pay that would. Be a wall. And that was it that there was going to be a wall and Republicans are saying they support the president's objective. But they have reservations about a national emergency to free up billions of dollars for it. And also taking that money from key military programs member of the national emergency was declared by the president on February fifteenth to free up that money for the border wall. Many of you have written to me about the wall. It's kind of a split deal here on the show where some think it's just do it and others say ethics another way to get that money. And then we'll so really it's kind of three way and others say is that really going to be that much of a detriment Senator rand Paul Republican from Kentucky is the latest Republican device objections to that emergency declaration. He said during a speech in Kentucky over the weekend. That approving the emergency declaration would be pretty much like giving extra constitutional powers to the president. And he said, I just can't do it. I can't vote to give the president the power to spend money that hasn't been appropriated by congress. And he said, look, we might want more money for border security, but congress didn't authorize it if we take away the checks and balances it's a dangerous dangerous thick. So it doesn't look like that's going anywhere. Because it was objections and conversations about that. Pretty much that's all in in place. And remember in the house. It didn't go in the house in the house. There were lots of concern. There was some concerns anyway raised by some of the Republican lawmakers, but only thirteen ended up breaking the party. And of course, they didn't have to because they knew that it wasn't going. That it wasn't going anywhere. There wasn't going to be an emergency. That was going to be approved. Speaking of. Emergencies. Imagine it's the last day or two and you hold a winning lottery. Ticket of one point five billion. The winner of the one point five billion dollar mega millions jackpot finally came forward in South Carolina. It's interesting because on this show. We talk about what you're talking about near backyard. I had dinner at a girl's night out. I haven't had that in forever with some longtime friends all from different walks of life. And this is a little bit of politics and a few other things one one of the big conversations was, hey, what about this lottery ticket because it's one of the largest in US history. And it was upfront cash, boom. A one time payment of a lot of money. Lots of zeros. And they they got it. The winner was this customer. With a quick pick in the lottery in a right there. Think about that. You're just my mind raced kind of in couple of different directions. I'm thinking I'm in that quick pick line around the same time. And I'm in front of the person who had just a simple quick pick. Or I'm behind them. What's great? Is that this market this little Casey market? They don't get jobs out of the money. They were supposed to get because when somebody wins a lottery ticket they ended up getting some money. So they get money and listen in South Carolina. You don't have to say you won the lottery. So the winner wanted to be anonymous g shocker I wanna be anonymous. Now, the Mark they get fifty thousand for selling the winning lottery ticket. So a little bit of luck for that. And the state of South Carolina. They get sixty one million in income taxes from the winner. Ooh. As what you take the one time deal. Right. I pick one ticket. It's a quick pick. Oh my gosh. I want it. You gotta be kidding me. Just take all the money right there. Just take all the take.

She tells democratic candidates running for the White House not to take anything for granted. Well, if you're looking for the best or worst state to live in based on taxes, it all depends on whether you are rich or poor while it hub dot com has compiled some interesting comparisons and the websites Jill Gonzalez joins us. Now. Jill it turns out that our state Washington isn't such a great place for those who are poor explain. Yes. Washington is one of the most regressive tax policy is right now, it's the worst place for if you're running a low income one of the better places for high income earners and not a good place for people that are middle of the pack either. Tell me about the criteria you measured all the tax obligations state, local and federal. We met at a state and local here, and that would include anything from sales and excise taxes property and income taxes. So here it really comes down to some pretty good at sales and excise hefty tax rates there, if you're a low income earners so making around thirty thousand dollars per year. Fifteen percent of that income goes to taxes. If you're a high income earner only about eight percent of your income would go toward that total tax burden. Where do you get the most bang for your buck? In other words, not spending so much on taxes. If you are in one of those lower income, less well-off categories. Did that's pleased to be a low income earner right now is actually Alaska. Delaware is up there as well by Montana and Utah and South Carolina, the best place, if you're a high income earner are Alaska, Nevada, Wyoming, Tennessee, and Florida and all this comes as we wrestle this year with the new federal tax rates. How do those play into all this Jill? So this is just looking at your state and local taxes, but federally of course, I think a lot of people dependent on what income bracket, you're in are either happy with the returns that they're getting happy with their refund or a little bit surprised at what they're not getting the best place to be if you are poor is Delaware, right? Tell me a little bit more about their tax structure. So Delaware is pretty good really across the board. Absolutely. No sales and excise taxes, which tends to really be the killer for low and middle income earners who Delaware is a good across the board. Also, some of the lowest real estate taxes in the country. Let's just rather up to thirty seven hundred summary higher or lower. That's the median Wasi Twenty-one. Fifty median in Seattle nineteen fifty. Yeah. All that money to have to watch your step everywhere, you go see you don't step on a needle or whatever else is on our streets. Believable. Let me see here survey says. Very expensive around here. Okay. What else? Do we have in terms of surveys says here's a little report from John Stolnis? We've got the unknown person in South Carolina's finally come forward to claim the second largest lottery, ever stolen has the report Cutty. The state's lottery commission says a single winner has come forward to claim the one and a half billion dollar mega millions jackpot from a drawing took place last October the winner had until April nineteenth to claim the prize. He or she has chosen to remain anonymous. In a statement, the commission says the winner has chosen the cash option a one time payment of eight hundred seventy eight million dollars the largest jackpot ever awarded to a single winner in US lottery history. The winning ticket was sold between October twentieth and twenty third last year at a convenience store in Simpson. Simpson-bill South Carolina, located near Greenville. I'm John Stolnis. Okay. What stoldas didn't tell you is the rest of the story. So she didn't he never does. Well, the problem is he's only got thirty five seconds. That's true. So the deal is this was a quick pick mega millions lottery ticket purchase. So the ticket matched all six numbers. Odds on that one in three hundred two million. But here's the rest of the story. This guy was in line at the Casey Martin, by the way, the Casey markets fifty thousand dollars for this and the state of South Carolina gets sixty million dollars for this. But this guy was in line. And there was a customer that was in a hurry. So this guy said you can go in front of me. That customer bottle artery ticket. That customer is kicking himself in the head right now, you believe that my gosh. So this guy because he was polite polite. This pays off right. Maybe that's the lesson for today. Politeness pays off you never know Armagh. This is so good. I love it. I just love it one in three hundred to built million dollar odds. So my guess is this guy lawyer accountant it up, maybe it's a guy. Maybe it's a guy. I don't know. Don't know how old they are. No, nothing about them. But it would appear to me that they're doing everything. Right. They 'cause this went down in October. So they can they can remain anonymous there in in South Carolina, you can do that. Okay. So they can remain anonymous, and they had all this time to make their make their plans. Probably, you know, sell the house, right, right? Get out of dodge changed the last name. Whatever you gotta do. I don't know what all this. But then I know we shared this many times in the case of a morning show. Do people coming in and out of the program all the time. So we had a guy call up who was a big lottery winner years ago in the program guy calls up who knows person may be listening as we speak, and what he had been advised to do was every friend every family member. Everybody send them a letter from the attorneys office saying if you promise to never talk to me about money investments, nothing just don't ever talk to me about money ever ever ever ever ever. I promise I will give you ten thousand dollars in return. Really? So you signed a legal document, right? And he started handing out ten thousand dollar checks to all his friends, relatives, etc. Never been bothered since that's the way to do it. He must have must have been a sizable amount of money that this guy received the lottery, but that's what you do shut people up. Otherwise, it's going to be the the second cousin that you haven't seen for twenty years. Right. Hey, man. I've got this. Great investment. This is shirt. Shut up. Yeah. I just leave me alone. At this point lead me. You know, what though I love the fact that they can remain anonymous because then he's not gonna have all these these wacko friends coming out of corners as well. You know, what the what the lottery the state lotteries don't like that. Because they want you to hold the big checks, so they can promote it. So that more people play, right, right? Not in South Carolina. Katie green seven fifteen well taking a look at your traffic.

Many of you have written to me about the wall. It's kind of split deal here on the show where some think it's just do it and others say F has got to be another way to get that money. And then we'll so really it's kind of three way and others say is that really going to be that much of a detriment Senator rand Paul Republican from Kentucky is the latest Republican device objections to that emergency declaration. He said during a speech guitar over the weekend that approving the emergency declaration would be pretty much like giving extra constitutional powers to the president. Because it was objections and conversations about that and pretty much that's all in in place. And remember in the house. It didn't go in the house in the house. There were lots of concern. There was some concerns anyway raised by some of the Republican lawmakers, but only thirteen ended up breaking with the party. And of course, they didn't have to because they knew that it wasn't. It wasn't going anywhere. There wasn't going to be an emergency. That was going to be approved. Speaking of emergencies. Imagine it's the last day or two and you hold a winning lottery. Ticket of one point five billion. Yeah. The winner of the one point five billion dollar mega millions jackpot finally came forward in South Carolina. It's interesting because on this show. We talk about what you're talking about near backyard. I had. Dinner at a girl's night out. I haven't had that in forever with some longtime friends all from different walks of life, and besides a little bit of politics and a few other things one one of the big conversations was, hey, what about this lottery ticket because it's one of the largest in US history. And it was upfront cash, boom. A one time payment of a lot of money. Lots of zeros. And they they got it. The winner was this customer. With a quick pick in the lottery. Right there. About that. You're just my mind raced kind of a couple of different directions. I think I'm in that quick pick line around the same time. And I'm in front of the person who had just a simple quick pick. Or I'm behind them. What's great? Is that this market this little Casey market? They don't get. Jobbed out of the money. They were supposed to get because when somebody wins a lottery ticket they ended up getting some money. So they get money and listen in South Carolina. You don't have to say you won the lottery. So the winner wanted to be anonymous g shocker I wanna be anonymous now the mart. They get fifty thousand for selling the winning lottery ticket. So a little bit of luck for that. And the state of South Carolina. They get sixty one million in income taxes from the winter. Who as what you take the one time deal? Right. I pick one ticket. It's a quick pick. Oh my gosh. I want it. You gotta be kidding me. Just take all the money right there. Just take all the take.
