"It's the article that they wrote that was just that was the perfect article. And you WanNa, keep those memories all right. Let's talk racing a little bit. Kinda shifted gears there, so I wanted to pull a few things from your career in the first being that when we did this could be dangerous for me. I'm thinking about different things. My old boy where she got this. So, when we talked in late two thousand eighteen for the PODCAST, and we had a few minutes when you were filling in for Casey. Cain we only of scratch the surface there are a little bit, but back then you told me that you had never actually retired and I wanted to ask and you kinda hinted on a few minutes ago that you know. Hey, maybe you'll jump in something later this year. So is it one of those things? Things where you're still not technically retired if you have the chance, would you still like to get behind the wheel of something? I love driving race cars. I love going fast. I, love the adrenaline. I love the competition like I'd love that, so absolutely would in a heartbeat and I'm not saying I'm actively pursuing anything because I'm not again. I am focused on TV in that is as old as rb. The Best Guy TV that I can. Can be a TV and I want to be the. You know the best guy that somebody that everybody says like he's made. You know what he's one of the best ever talk about a race car on TV in a way that I can understand at her away that I can appreciate or whatever it may be with US said a big part of me. Doing that is the fact that I'd love the race car side of it also and. And I love the driving side of the aisle. I just don't know that I would ever use. The word retired I. You know I look at a guy like Kenny Wallace. Right and he'd never used the word retired now. He's off racing dirt cars whole would if I want to go race cars, forty five or fifty years old, if I'm not doing TV somewhere down the road I won't use that word. I think that words just to. I think it's to a permanent to call and I'm only thirty six also. That's I joked about it actually literally yesterday with Aj Almond. Dinger I was talking to him, and basically I was cracking on because Daytona and I said look. Aj niggers out of retirement for this Daytona race earlier this season any. He stopped me quick. He's like Whoa Whoa Whoa way never retired and I thought about. You know that's the same thing that kind of stuff I never retired so I think people just make the assumption out there fulltime that you're you know that you're done that. You're retired that this is. Over it and I you know I I. Don't think you can say that. was there a time? Though where you realize regan that it was starting to fade away a little bit I mean you had had fulltime rides, and then you did a little bit here a little bit there. You started the Super Sub which we've talked about before, did you? Did you realize though at one point that hey, it's. It's kind of fading away like it's slipping away here. I think I knew that when I took the job I had a pretty good idea what was going on in the garage area at the time and I could see kind of the writing on the wall in the direction, the sport was going on. Something's in in my opportunities were not going to be the opportunities to be in top sixteen car, and as I looked at the garage thought okay. If you're going to have a chance to win, you've got to be one of those top sixteen cars in nets the point where you've gotta decide Okay what my priorities in water..

"But I was like, wow, man. This is so cool. Did you think you were famous until you meant though I have? No. They are on a. No totally different level of fame. And so, anyways, we sit there and we had we had beer. Hours. We ate we talked. We talked like we were sitting on the front porch in my house. It was the best conversation. They are the most down to earth. But what did he want to talk about? We family. Okay racing. No. We just talked about are, are crazy uncle. And whatever just normal conversation, it was just as, as we had known each other for you know, before it's like we'd met before and beyond say was so nice. I couldn't believe I mean, you know, you just you, they say, don't meet your heroes. You know, you know, when you get the opportunity to be in a McKay could it says congrats on new upset them? But they, I was so thankful to head to head out opportunity because they were so down to earth and their icons, you know, they're they're awesome. You're doing pace court. Indy five I am. Yeah. Who, who was going to do that? Who is it? Roker Al L Rochow was going to do it. All right. So, apparently something happened with his schedule where he couldn't do it, and they call they called me. I'm going to be there. Anyways for NBC to work. I've never been in any five hundred and they're like, hey, would you mind driving to pace car? And I thought man. I'd love to feeling for our occur. And as long as the IndyCar guys are okay with it. Right. Because this is this is their playground. This is their world. Oh, they reached out you on Twitter. And that was very nice. And I, I, I would never want to disrespect those guys and I was so grateful that they were happy with it. And we're okay with it because it's a real honor, this is the big huge event for those guys. And, and I know motor sports and I know how big this is. And I know how it's a bucket list item. You know, I don't want know you something, you can't turn down when you get those opportunities. How would you have done if you got race? Lynn Lewis cores. Oh, I don't know. You know, I, I hate to say no interest in, of course, a very curious always curious about any kind of race car. And what they drive like, feel like, but I hate this soon that I would get in there and be great. You know, I wouldn't never assume that it's easy or would come so natural. But it's Stewart made it was as car driver. I. Okay. Easier to go that to then to NASCAR don't know. I you know there I would say that their cars are just a completely different discipline, and it's not something you just jump in and be great at. It's something like anything else golf or whatever you have to do all the time when I talked to Kyle when Utah if I've never asked how this, but Casey Cain. Kyle Larson all those guys that run sprint cars. They can't just go and run the biggest race of the year and be great. They have to run for months to sort of condition themselves and understand what's going on in the sport to be good to be good when that when that elite race comes through. So you know it's not something you can just hop in a race car driver. I run NASCAR. I'm going to go run the Indy five hundred and win or even run into top ten. I mean that shows you what kind of driver. Kurt Busch is excellent race. Car driver, one of the there's only a few guys that can go like, Mario Andretti. Tony Stewart, even Kurt Busch that can hop from different disciplines and be great at it. Not all of us can do that. I wouldn't assume. That I could do that. What's the best thing you do is apparent? Oh, well. I don't know. I, I don't know. I think I think I'm pretty good at it. Do do. Do you read stories Jan diapers? Like what what, what do you do? Well..

Do you read stories changing diapers? Like what what, what do you do? Well. I'll be your buddy. You know, our friend like moms moms gotta keep things in line. Mom's gotta keep her doing right from wrong. Mom's got a mom's got be stern and I get to go in there and just be your buddy play. And you know, I don't I don't have the hard job. I have the discipline her. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean I don't have. I don't have a problem, sort of helping because she's in that phase, where it's I think it's real important that she's thirteen months right now and I think it's super important to not let an opportunity to learn go by, like, when she makes them steak or like the other day we were hanging out and she's eating rocks. And I'm like. I'd like I'm Google it on my phone. I know that this ain't good. We need to wait, wait, you had to look up well, mining rocked back, and no. I'm Google in, like what's the protocol here? Do I need to really be really aggressive? Obviously, I don't want to eat rocks. I'm getting the rocks out when she's trying to put the rocks in, but I'm just trying to make sure I don't know. I'm just trying to figure out whether I need to be super concerned is critical of this situation where accidentally swallow, a small pebble is this something we need to rush the hospital media. Where's mom? She's there. Oh, she is. She's a helping she's not as concerned as me obviously because she's not on her phone Google in, but I'm that parent, I'm going to be the on paranoid worried to death. Mom's like is not a big deal. Wait till she's a teenager that will what happens. That's when the tough part three three daughters. Yeah. And that's when you know what the best thing you can do is have a have a relationship where she knows. She can always talk to you. Yeah. And it sounds simple. But it's the best thing I ever did with my daughters is they, they talk to you about everything. And if you have that relationship than they don't hide anything there still hide stuff, but they are open to conversation. And they don't look at you like oh God. I gotta tell you. But if you can keep the lines of communication open, certainly with teenage girl. You'll be a head of the game. I'll try my best. I mean, I think we're going to have a great relationship. Any we got a anything else coming got another kid coming? No, no. Okay. I thought you know, I mean if we have breaking news, it would be nice to announce it. But yeah, I I mean I don't know. There's something. I don't know does there. No. If you don't know for me. No, no. They're bringing Amy. Hey, good. How people get involved in this, the Nicorette. Absolutely. If you wanna take the taste test drive, go to Nicorette dot com. It's a logic is not a gum tastes, great, if you're on this journey, and you're struggling, this is a great advantage, a great tool to put in your toolbox, if I'd had it made that process for me, so much better so much easier. Welcome back to the down and dirty radio show, powered by Polaris razor, Jim beaver here along with Chris Leoni, and we're going to jump into some power rankings. Chris I guess this is one of those. We went from last week where we didn't have a damn thing going on literally like nothing in the entire world. There wasn't like there was no motor sports. Now this weekend. I feel like it's like we got a binge motor sports. Just because we didn't do anything last week. And I think everything aside from maybe IndyCar and some semblance of offroad was running. Yeah. Pretty much, Jim. I mean, geez. We had we had rally here in the US. We had rally in Argentina. We had Formula one. We had supercross coming back for the second round of the year another four white NHRA round formula drift in Orlando. What am I missing? I mean, I mean, I guess NASCAR. You know, now car in of course, our general tire shod friends in arka- taking over Talladega. So that was a huge one. I mean. Yeah, it's. If you were struggling over Easter weekend because yeah, we'll have a couple of reruns. Whatever you might have been able to scrape up you were fine this past weekend racing. If you couldn't find something new enjoy then that's on you. That's an understatement. It was plenty this weekend. I couldn't even keep track. Everything it was. Like, we've always said there's those weird weekends throughout the year. And we've got that one coming up in June that magical magical June dates it's always just for some odd reason slam packed full. It's like, you know, what I think it is is because like the weekend prior is always the Indy. Five hundred Monaco grand prix coke six hundred which is a big weekend in itself. So I feel like everybody doesn't wanna have something run up against that big. You know, they call it the biggest weekend racing and actual truth. That's not it's got some of the biggest races. But it's not the biggest weekend. And it's like everybody else jumps in the weekend. After that. And you know, what I mean because they don't wanna go head to head with the juggernauts. And so it becomes this massive weekend in and of itself, you know? Yeah. Honestly if I was starting my own racing series. I'd be running the weekend after all those weekends because everybody else's off. I mean, you know, honestly, we look at this weekend. And there's not really gonna be a lot going on either. I mean, you've got supercross, obviously, that's. Is back. You know, that's back. But I mean you into mid Ohio I think, but that's really hot. If there's not much, you know, everybody just kinda Krant into this past weekend. And let's just say that it's made our job pretty interesting because I can think of about eleven people who are worthy of about five spots for each of us. Yeah. No. I completely agree. And I know speaking of which you and I will be on site at the GP in two weeks. So not a lot going on this weekend. Obviously, we got that supercross finale, but we'll talk more about that next week. We're going to fund their India. I'm kinda excited to get you to Indianapolis for your first time at least to to to Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Oh, yeah. I mean, I went to India once as a kid today vacation with my family when I was maybe nine or ten years old. I don't remember much of that Bakke Shen other than I lost one of the die-cast that I bought because of course, I did. So we went in we bought another one. And then lo and behold, the other one showed up I don't know that the store in Annapolis Motor Speedway is ready for Chris Leoni in your diet cast collection. Because like it's insane. The stuff they've got there. I'm just saying it sure wasn't years ago. I cleared him out after we did GRC, Indianapolis, you know, carved out a little time. I always do anytime. I travel carve out a little time to go to the dyke house. You know, pick something up in you know, in Vegas win. We were at the MIT and we were on free month's street. You know, that that big is toy shack being right? There was perfect for me. I just dipped in grabbed a few things, you know. You know, I'll I'll do the same thing in Indianapolis. You know, I do the same thing where we don't. There's always some place that has, you know, something nice, and I'm kind of tapered off on the collection a little bit. Because I think I've got just about everything I really want. Now, it's now I need to get back into the custom stuff and making my own. No, those were always awesome. When you were doing all your custom stuff for g or c on the drivers and things like that. But we gotta we gotta roll right into our power rankings. Get things started here. So number five on your list. Chris who who did you have rolling in at number five? Well, Jim I am going to give some credit where credit is due over at Olympics rally are dirt fish lymph this rally. Awesome to see our friends at dirt fish taking over is title partner that event and I am going to go with Oliver sober who took his first victory in the US over there Fisher at this rally this past week. And you know, he's he's come over here Subaru family, you know, which is big enough story in itself. Just because obviously dad Petr won the WR seat time with them. You know? I wanna say oh, two three. I'm I'm blanking on the year off the top of my head. But anyhow, you know, huge story seeing him come in. He's been he's been driving. Well beyond his years. I mean, I wonder soldiers just a teenager right now. But he's driving whatever he's driving with the poise and confidence of somebody twice his age with dozens of wins and championship trophies on their mantle. So I've gonna give it to all sober for number five. You know, great victory for him outed Olympics rally, and you know, certainly fitting as well because that was the that was America's WRC round years and years ago, so cool to see that little bit of history tied together. Yeah, I think a lot of people forget that that Olympics rally was actually on the WRC calendar at at one point, which I think is just really RAD bit of nostalgia. They're kinda kinda reminds me like the whole Long Beach thing. People forget, the Long Beach was actually a Formula one event at one point one point in time before it went to, you know, IndyCar champ car cart, whatever the. Oh, you want to call it at this point in time. But yeah, so no, I had I had a little struggle there with my number five because I had all of our Solberg, and I had one other driver kind of pencil then at five and I opted to go with the other drivers solver silver, didn't crack my top five. He was on the bubble. He's an honorable mention the reason why is I had chase Elliott at number five. I know I'm citing when NASCAR here. But Talladega is one of the big ones literally because it's such a big track. This is you know, you got a handful of events NASCAR guys want to win every year. Obviously daytona's one of the big ones. It is the big one. But I don't Talladega. There's just something special because just the massive size of that track. And I don't think it's an easy one to win for so for that reason I had chase. Elliott's slotted in at number five on my list. Yeah. I can definitely respect that. I had a hard time on trying to figure out where to put anybody who ran. Talladega this past weekend. Anybody wanna tell this past weekend? And I actually ended up leaving all of them off my list. It's funny because I'm the NASCAR guy, and we do these power rankings, and you tend to give the NASCAR guys more credit than I do. So it's the funniest thing. I mean. Yeah. Can't knock it. And obviously, you know, I I don't know if you'd seen. I don't know if this come up, but his father Bill was actually running some vintage racing and road Atlanta won the stock car race that was out there over the weekend. We have both Elliott's victory lane over the weekend. Yeah. It's. It's. It's pretty RAD. I mean, it was I think it was one of the old Everett ham cars, I actually think judging by the front end of that car. I think it's newer than the ones that Bill actually raised for that team. I think it was well he was beginning semi retirement. It looks like Casey Cain car. But anyhow, yeah. Both E victory lane. So that was pretty cool. Here's a question in. I you're the NASCAR guy. Not me. Bill elliott. I believe still holds the fastest lap record ever in NASCAR. And it was before restrictor plates, and it was at Talladega. It was something crazy like two hundred and thirty miles an hour and his fund Vert or something now. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he is still the record older strictly because that was before restrictor plates. Yes, sir. Actually that was part of the deal this weekend was now that there are no longer restrictor plates with the new package that NASCAR is running. You know, guys were starting to top two hundred again because that was what the restrictor plate had been doing keeping them under that two hundred threshold, but little interesting factoid from that one of the things that kind of passed around Bill Elliott was also the last driver to win and Telugu before the restrictor plate era. And now his son is the first drivers win after the restrictor plate era. So that's a pretty cool story coming out of there. I mean, usually when you think Talladega you think the earnhardt's because senior one ten times there, and I don't remember how many times they'll junior one there. But he won. He won quite a few. Play driver. Yeah. I mean, he. Dale, senior one everything. Right. But I think junior he came. He was known to be restrictor plate driver. Damn good at it. Yeah. The cars in their heyday. We're just by far the best restrictor plate cars. You know in NASCAR dill junior. Got a few wins. You know, one Daytona? Talladega. Michael waltrip? I still remember Mike popping out of the roof. Hatch after when the Talladega. I mean, those cars fantastic. I mean, it said to see the restrictor plate era, and but you know, definitely good on chase. Like, I said he didn't quite make my list, but gotta respect anybody who has the stones to pull it off at data dig a special on. And we've got I guess our top four remaining in. We're going to get to those. We come back right here to the down dirty radio show, powered by police razor. He's all about sound sound of sports the sound of the racetrack. "Hello again and welcomed racing writers podcast. I'm your host Kelly Crandall. This week's episode is really really good in my opinion. We've had a lot of great episodes. But this was just an awesome conversation. With Brett Griffin bread is the spotter for Clinton player in the monster energy NASCAR Cup series. And he also does a little bit of work in the extent series. And he's going to explain that to you. We're also gonna talk about the businesses that he has off of the route. So we're going to get an all of that Brett is fantastic. And the reason I love this episode is because it's unfiltered it's candid Brett opens up and was actually telling me things that he has said he's never told before. So I very much. Appreciate the fact that he felt comfortable enough to do that we spoke over the weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. We laughed on air offaire telling stories on air off air. He's a great guy. He has been awesome to me since I came into the sport. And I appreciate him. And I appreciate his personality. And we talk all about that. So for those of you who don't know Brett is he is one of the most honest, unfiltered, candid, everywhere you. Describe he he's fantastic. And I'm sure if you listen to the fourteen radio on Sunday afternoons, you know, all about that for those of you don't know Brett sit back and enjoy you're going to get to know everything about him. How he got into the sport his personality a working with Clint Boyer working with drivers like Elliott Siler? Jeff Burton TC Cain things that he's accomplished things that he wants to accomplish. And things that have got him in trouble things that well, let's just say there might have been a policy put in place on the roof on the spotters roof because of something he may have done. So this is just an awesome conversation. Really enjoyed it very thankful to have bread. And please tell me what you think because I just was so eager to air this episode because I really think you're gonna enjoy it. So that's coming up. I also can tell you that because the episodes have been interviewed. Here's what's coming up over the next couple of weeks. Fox Sports is Caitlin Vinci is next she's going to be next week's we talked for about an hour recently on her work with Fox Sports. She's now the pre-race hose for the truck series. And how she got another sport and different things all about. The truck series and like that I have known each other for quite some time. So I was really glad to have that conversation. So that's coming next week the week after that will be exciting series driver Michael net from j r motorsports. He's off to offense Hasek's start after the last couple years of really kind of fighting for relevancy so to speak, and we talk a little bit about that. But that episode is going to be more about how Michael switched to racing from hockey, he has an ice hockey background. And we dug into that. We also may have talked a little bit of wrestling because we were both mutual wrestling fans. So that is coming up in two weeks, and then the week after that is going to be three yest- at once. It is three ladies from Toyota racing development. Haley Degan Maria Kover and Brittany's Amora are the first three of a bunch of ladies from Toyota racing development. And I'm gonna talk to so that is coming up in three weeks. So sit back relax enjoy. And please tell me what you think. So let's get to this week's episode. This is what Brett Griffin the candidate honest open. Brett. I hope you enjoy here. It is on the racing writers podcast. I feel bad though. Because obviously, I know your name, but you're just spotter. Brett to me. I am. That's what everybody calls me. Now, even Michael Waltrip who I've known for twenty plus years. I started out in the sport, though, Michaels PR when he had band-aid brand program, and he ran out of garage at the back of his house. And so he and that was like nineteen ninety nine so, but even today, he's like ace Brett, I'm like, well, I guess that's my new brand, you know. It's just also like it's easy to head on Twitter in the national. I call you now maybe spot or bread like when I was telling people before I was like, okay, I'm going to do podcast. Oh, who's a whip spot? Shit. That's my name. I do this on your podcast when you start out tell everybody what your current gig is because I think it said last week are you don't trucks now with trucks. So I started a new company over the winter called I and with that we're doing a lot of sponsorship stuff for for partners. And neutral solutions is one of my clients really the charter client for the company and with what we have going on. And it's just really tough to be able to have dinners and do hospitality. And do a lot of the marketing things that I need to do when these truck schedule, you know, we we get the Friday nights. Right. That's when these guys wanna do team dinners, and they want them, you know, meet their driver, and they wanna have all these things going on while I'm stuck on a roof spun for a truck, which is great because that's competition side of my job. And I absolutely love spotting. But at the end of the day, I need to be you know, somewhere else. And so you can't be two places at once and mart. Maya was in a really good spot is year by running a part time schedule, and I thought it would kind of help me be able to do it. But then there's some racist coming up that he's gonna try to run. And on those times he's going to run it. I don't need to be on a roof. I need to be trying to build this new. So that's kind of what happened there doing Clinton. Just doing Clinton just doing Clint. And then I'm also doing Ross staying I'm doing Elliot Sadler. And really anybody that drives a tin car. So I did awesome deal amount Vegas. I can't tell you guys. How many times that car is going to run and who I was going to drive it? But they're putting winters winters only car. So they got they have announced it's going to be in it. They're still a driver to this gonna give that Karch Chris Rice's is chasing trophies without car, which is fun because I get to be a part of that I'll have to worry about points. I don't have to worry about stages. It's all about wins. So you've been with Clint since late two thousand twelve if my research was correct. Did you know him at all before you started? Yes. So he and I were big buddies. I'm the first time we ever really hung out. He came to me and said man, I want to go to Blake Shelton's concert, and it was at the all star weekend. He was playing there that outdoor pavilion and outside. We'll man I'll get hooked up. You know, how many people you got? And he's managed me, Laura. So I was like awesome. So long story short. That's the first night we really hung out, and that was many many moons ago. So before I started spotting for him. We went on vacations together we went to bike week in Myrtle Beach together, obviously hung out with Blake a lot together. So big time friends man, I've been really lucky Kelly like spotted Fraley at Sadler, obviously for his entire pretty much career, and obviously had a huge huge person. Relationship with him went to work for Jeff Burton who I had known for a very long time, a friend of mine somebody that you know, you kept up with even when you weren't working together. And then when I left are CR right before the chase started in the year that Clint finished second championship behind. Brad went to work for another really good friend of mine. So in the Cup series. I always had personal relationships. And you know, I'm toward the end of my spotting career. I don't know what that means or win. It is going to be because I haven't really set that timetable up yet. But I couldn't go to work for somebody that I'm not emotionally personally invested in. Because it's always it's always been that way for me, you know, and that's been the cool thing is you could tell through all of your relationship or very close with whoever you spotted for everybody knows your relationship with Elliot and everybody knows how close gotten with Clint. So you are more. It's your very invested in what you're doing. Because those your friends, and those are the people you're closest to big big difference. When you when you care versus when you don't care, and obviously I've gone out and and spotted for guys that I didn't know and didn't have personal relationships with. But but for the most part, I mean, here's the thing to all the guys. That I grew up with here. They're they're leaving. You know? I mean, I wanna truck race, Casey Cain. The only truck race average spotted form he and I flew from Texas back to Rockingham and the next day. We went out and wanna truck race. I I stood in for the spotter. Joel Edmonds who was doing great before full-time it Cup because he had Ken Schrader on Saturdays. We'll tag it in the car there. Any legit vacated with the clinic seven car back in the day with co and man before I go out and went almost every single race. We we ran,

"Tell you what you will be totally blown away. They give back to the community like no racetrack. I've ever seen veterans. They have a great event at least once a year where they bring him down on the track and unravel an American flag. They'll just give you goosebumps on top of goosebumps. Best fireworks display, and they've just got it all Turkey night, man. There's a good time ago. Oh, the please good night. Hey, we got the I guess you're the infield announcers that Chris salt. Yes. Chris crew. Yes. I didn't mean to wake you, what are you doing sleeping? Yes, infield announcer. And you know, you just making that the Turkish Grand prix. That's now been moved to Ventura good location for it. Dave, you should know that. But yeah, we had some good shows there at the pair. So the Turkey night on a half. Now got a little smaller tracking. And they like it. But we got a whole bunch going on like you mentioned some of the other events if you're and it's going to start off with this weekend. The thirtieth. The world about laws and the Usak. Sierra sprint cars. You get the best of the best of both types of shows all for the price of one admission, and then we're going to throw in the of the young guns in the senior sprints too. Again, weekend coming up a lot a lot of things going on for the year a lot of things happening with Peres. But right now, that's what we're doing. Is this big show? And if you go to the world about LA dot com, W O dot com. They do have some special deals that you can buy tickets. They're right. Their website. Hopefully, weather is going to work for you. Because I hear it's supposed to rain Wednesday Thursday next week. Oh, you're you're making things up. Hey, I am. I mean, I bought a well. And I love rain, but I'm tired of rain is just messing up racing. Like crazy around here. Yeah. Well, if anybody can fix it dotty and the crew canyon Donnie coach, they they have really learned a lot of tricks on how to take care of that rain problem, by the way, congratulations to Don kazarian and his absolutely amazing team. You guys just signed at twenty year extension. Yeah. You Donnie he just loves race. And you know, he's not making a dime. He just this is his life and. He went for it and got it. There was a lot of work. You know, they had to work with the fair board state fairgrounds and everything. So there's a lot of logistics and everything involved, but he got him decided deal years who gets a twenty year deal on anything. Anymore? Know what I mean, you really really got to show something in the fair boards. Dave there to deal with so sure they get the job done. And I just I had to mention that. I mean, there's a big congratulations to died, and I would have loved him had him call in. But I think he's sleeping guys got sometime. I don't know what he does. But it gets out of practice last night. And you know, he's he's a one man show. He he does have a just a skeleton crew, I know and. Donny does everything road. Grading put water on the track cleaning a toilet. It doesn't matter Dadis in. They're doing oh, I know now he's there's what you call squeezing nickel. Make the Indian ride the buffalo. We've got a lot of things going on a lot of excitement. Like, you talked about the extension there on the least Tony Jones now taking over the use acciari series says the racing director. And Tony is he's just a dynamite guy. He's working really hard. He's got a whole bunch of stuff in the in the what would you call it in the mix and we're expecting real good things. We've got a lot of people that are saying they're coming down from up north across the border over from Arizona. A lot of racers. We've got some some new guys now with this is going to be Joel Rayburn the young blind from down there your weight this'll be his first year of not being the rookie. And we got like Matt Mitchell is coming back. And you know, he's many timeline about winner. There's just so much going on on top of max Adams and Hollywood daddy. Got guys coming up from north that Tommy, Malcolm robber. Now. AJ bender from down there. Matt McCarthy all these guys are joining the latest news is at Austin Williams down has joined the ninety two moose team. This is going to be a good combination. RJ Reynolds coming over, you know, and then we got. They already the point leader Brody Rolla. So he's taken over the point lead athlete leading the points in two series. They've got a mind the series this year, put Arizona and California. It's cut a battle back and forth. And there's gonna be a point battle that is going to be an award for the the two of them as one. So it's let stuff going on. I'm telling you is awesome. So Isabel have you ever race on the dirt? I have not. I just had my boss actually, just went all the way to Sweden to do some some rallying in the snow. I'm not gonna lie. We could go. I was looking into the dirt fish school in Washington. So that's definitely online. Oh, come on up to Borana, or at least go over to the Corey cruise man sprint cars school. That's in Ventura. It's in Ventura and Michelle did it. You would love it. I think it'd be a little a doesn't doesn't a dirt driver make a better driver. Well, if you look at ask are the guys that run it up front. Tony Stewart in that whole pile the outcome from the dirt, by the way. Casey cain. One of the NASCAR drivers is scheduled to be here Saturday as a driver one of the world about Lockhart. I'm gonna faint if I see him I'm gonna faint. What about what about Kyle Larson because he always comes out? Yeah. I don't know that he's scheduled. This week because he's pretty busy with that NASCAR deal right now. But you never know when they're gonna show up. I've looked up at the grandstands before and seemed like. Tony, Stewart and stuff. And like, I know that's what they actually do have you ever as Tony Stewart, ever driven Paris. I don't think so I can't remember you gotta get Don to send him a letter and say, you probably wouldn't like the track is too fast. He'd be there. And then nanosecond, what do you think? Christopher bell out there too. Chris we're Bill. He's been there. Drivers have been there. Watching a race one time. And I think there was eleven drivers in a NASCAR about one night that had been pretty racers at Paris. Well, you know, like I said, I think that the dirt really teaches you car control more so than asphalt. I really do. Well, that's what they say that, you know, you learn that loose feeling and you get used to it really helps because if you don't know how to do it. That's when you guys those guys ended up into the wall. I mean, I love the power slides and ask are you can tell us if dirt driver because he just got cranked. And man, he has got his foot all the way to the headlights. Yeah. It's awesome. So once they get loosened the asphalt. It's over the kinda in trouble. But. Save it. So we got some new sponsors coming on board. We got another. Well, one of them is a John Tammy McCarthy. And then we got construction we've got quite a few and they're all jumping on board here. They're they're watching to see what's happening before they make these big commitments that were expected make and then we got the this point battle already started just mentioned with Brody row. He's appoint leader. And then our Jason second yard Jason about a six time champion over there in Arizona that we got the seven time champion the demon. He's in third. Oh, no. That's not gonna last long. Damian Gardner, folks. If you don't know who the demon. David gardner. So it's weekend to be there. Let's say to complete shows world about Las that's the best in the country against the Usak. Sierra the best on the west coast here all for the price of one admission. Wow. Do you guys think you'll have the pinks hotdogs out there? Of course, they will. You know? I don't know what I don't know if they'll be there not some sometimes sometimes they're not enough event. And that's a pretty good size of van. I gotta sleep Villanova. 'cause it's it'll be full, but there's always room for more. That's just one thing. There's so many grandstands feet that they could always make room for the the one thing that the dirt tracks the fans will always move over to make room for you. They don't care how close are. And they just love to tell you everything about it. If you don't know just stand up and turn around there'd be six people that they'd tell you exactly what's going on. Exactly, I'm telling you. It's it's really the way to fly, and you know, and the car count just seems to be growing every year which is huge for parents of speedway. Good car counts. And that's that's what all the excitement right now is about is that Tony's working on some deals with the tire companies and other companies that if we can get some people in the stands, and we get some car counts up the racers are going to be getting money back, and they got some programs where money's coming back at the end of the year money's going into the point funds increase purses. We've got some show up money coming. We got the the fast time awards that from the woodland ninety museum. Just a whole bunch of steps in the works at Tony has really done a great job. So far, we expect more. So tell me about this double decker race. Okay. So that's coming up. I believe what is it? They April twenty seventh. The next race. The April thirteenth this year is going to be back. But then April twenty-seventh destruction. This is crazy. They've taken a two cars. Well together, the driver sits on top. And the guy in the bottom has the gas and the brake, and they they can't talk to each other. And they're out there Ason. Anything that goes wrong there? So what do you say is he sells a car? What do you want to go on the top of the bar comfort zone? Oh, don't forget. This is the same night that they do the figure eights, and then they had the trailer races figuring behind we left. The trailer. Let's go back to the double deck. Let's go back to the double decker. What are they got a big bolt that goes through the floorboard and the rough when they bolted the I mean, how do they? Yeah. They got these big pieces of steel in there. They're both of them together. Blindfold one of them.

"Year check back in with Winston Kelly. Winston Cup champion getting buckled in Matt had a few laps in this machine. How does it stack up in terms of handling different from US from your next Cup car? They're they're definitely different Nextel a Winston, but they're definitely different. But the real stable real, easy drives. So should be fun. You know, they'll let you practice with four cars at the time. So I think it'd be a little bit different out there now. But I'm looking forward to bump drafting always been something very critical in this series expect that again tonight this my first race. I don't know. But I think so you know, with all these big spoilers in Wicker's, they should really suck up and be able to hit each other in push each other. So I'm sure they'll do be doing some Grafton Asmat, Kansas. He set to roll off fifth in his machine here tonight one of several drivers making their first ever runs in the IRS series. Also, Scott, Dixon, and JJ yearly you heard Kurt Busch mentioned a few moments ago, check gamma, Jim Phillips. Let's talk to Travis was NASCAR craftsman truck series champion drivers. You think your dog this event or you think your talent to match up with these other guys? I'm not sure yet. I don't even. Know who who I got to work with who's gonna work with me? But I guess we'll find out as we go. And you know, these cars are so equal and had so much fun this week in practice and stuff. You know, Iraq team does such a great job with crown Royal, and I'm excited to be here in just going to get my best showing to be a driver young driver. Like, you what what kind of honor? Is it though, really? Well, it's huge. You know, it's one of the the bit nita's things I've got to experience so far after you win the championship year ago. And you know, I'm so proud to be involved in Iraq series. And I it's very prestigious event, and I'm just excited to be here. Annoys excited about that million dollars guys. He certainly is about that. That's for sure he got two hundred fifty thousand last year's we said he could win a million this year if he wins it check back in with Steve post body hair, Scott Dixon. Scott, great IRL driver, Scott climbing into a car with a roof, which is something a little different for you. How these cars bent, you this week in practice. We have practice at all. So it's it's going to be a big leaning experience. I think, but I don't know she'd be a lot of fun. The guy's a great the drivers. And I think just coming with an open. What can happen? So you're all here experience draft and open wheel cars, but what do you expect the differences between the draft in the open wheel cars and the draft in these full bodies cars to be I did some some tasting. I think about a week ago for about forty laps. Oh, and it's totally different. It was different big. I didn't think it would be that different. But simply let's little sweet spots. And I know it's as I said it's going to be today. That's dixon. He's ready to go in today's race. These guys ready to go racing for the Iraq series. They test nearly a week and a half almost every day. Those Iraq cars are on the track inning and testing getting ready and learning how the cars are going to handle the high banks here Daytona actually, get more practice in anybody here because anytime there's open track time the Iraq drivers are out there. More in a minute. We're under very heavy overcast skies here at the Daytona International Speedway. And have been all day. There is only a slim chance of showers, so says the local weather bureau. So I think we're going to be okay for both the races that are about to unfold here the Iraq series and then the NASCAR craftsman truck here shortly. Let's pause ten seconds for station identification on the motor racing network. Let's go downstairs again and visit with Jason Norrie. He's the series director for Iraq. Winston Kelly's with him. Well, he's been around. He's run the series for a number of years. And it's always been one of the most exciting races that we have here at speed weeks. But some changes tell us about them this year j. I think one of the first changes is standing here talking with you and being live on 'em R. And we think that's fantastic. We're looking forward to that. And talk with Mani of add it and we brought him up to speed. So he can fill all those great fans of MR in on on a changes where you have but million dollar purse drivers love that aspect of the program, we've taking driver's colors as close as we could match them up with their numbers. So that's another new aspect of the program in to keep everybody competitive. And to hold them posted together in points. We're gonna have for the lack of a better term a yellow flag condition. Competitior come out on lap twenty five so he can regroup and get everybody lined back up in the pixel clothes, and we'll go down for fifteen left shoe that we're just talking about Hemi lamps get on this these cars before they come here. Any estimate of the average number of laps or TOMS around racetrack that these cars get before we raise tonight, generally. The race cars themselves have to remember the driver never drives us race car. That's dick, trickle guys. Those cars will probably have about one hundred miles accumulated on them. But the practice cars they'll have over a thousand miles each one. So there's over four thousand miles of practice into the lack maybe testing on the reliability has been incredible over the years and a lot of changes that million dollar purse to stop at halftime. And again, of course, we got demand upstairs. Barney hall to call the action. Here's going to be an interesting race as we said there are a couple of new twists, and we'll talk about some of those other than the increase in the person just a minute stock about some of the activists still to go. We told you the NASCAR craftsman truck series squares off later this evening motor racing network. With live coverage starting tonight at seven o'clock eastern time, actually that is seven thirty eastern time for the Florida dodge dealers two fifty and of course, move it on into Saturday and Sunday gets more and more action packed is ask our butcheries runs here. Tomorrow, the Hershey kisses three hundred twelve noon is our airtime for that event. And. The great American race the Daytona five hundred Sunday afternoon twelve forty five eastern time from here at Daytona International Speedway. And some question about the weather, but our staff meteorologist, Bonnie hall informs us that we should be okay tonight. How about the rest of the weekend? It looks pretty good for the rest of the weekend. There is a chance of some showers tomorrow. But no great chance. I think the the weather bureau in the flight service figures somewhere between maybe thirty to forty percent chance. That means sixty percent chance we'll have an awful lot of dry racetrack. So we should be. Okay. Sunday looks even better than that. So gonna be good weekend close out speed weeks for two thousand and four the NASCAR Busch series qualified here. Earlier today getting ready for the running of the Hershey. Kisses three hundred tomorrow and Martin true x one the bud pole for that event. Is I start in the NASCAR Busch series here at Daytona International Speedway. That's that chance to motor sports car. You'll start on the pole with Ron Hornets on the outside of row one. Kevin harvick. David strumming startled the second row Robby Gordon and Jason Leffler on row. Three rest of the starting top ten for the Bush race include. Mike bliss. He'll go from seventh. Dillard heart junior starts in eighth. Casey Cain night, and Joe Nemechek will go from tenth and again that race tomorrow afternoon here on the motoracing network. We talked about the rules have been tweaked just a little bit for the Iraq event. Here Daytona this year. There will be a competition. Yellow flag on the field at lap twenty five and at the completion of alab twenty-five the yellow will come out and they'll revert back to the previous left for restart positions. The pits will be closed at this time and the goal here is not to change any tires. Jay signal told me a little bit already today. Now if the yellow flag should come out in this event between laps twenty two and twenty four. They would go ahead. And put the yellow flag out just like a regular pitstop, and it will count as that competition caution. And it depends on what the caution comes out for say this gets a little bit complicated. But it's not really that bad. If they had a Rick a couple of cars torn up and everybody ran through some sheet metal out there or some debris, and they felt like they needed to change tires on all the cars, then obviously everybody would come in just like a regular schedule pissed off and do whatever they need. To do to get back in competition. Here's the thing that's going to make this thing. Really interesting. Once they go back to racing after that competition flag, the leaders going to line up out front by himself command downstairs, but from there on back from second back through twelfth place. You have an option of lining up at the inside groove or the outside group all the way back through twelfth position. So that sounds complicated. Simply what it means is if everybody wanted to they can lineup. Should make it very interesting here is we get to that squad fission caution which again will come at lap number twenty five plus at that moment, they will also award bonus points three points to the leader to to the second place man at one of the third place, man. And of course, all that adds up towards the end of the season to determine the Iraq champion this year at a pass out that one point nine million dollars in series championship money. The engines have fired here trackside will run to laps spun of the pace before we get ready to roll and get this first of the Iraq series events of two thousand four underway. Welcome back to the world center racing Daytona International Speedway. The cars are now rolling around the track. They'll run two pace laps before we drop. The green flag and get this rice underway. Again, forty laps making up a total of one hundred miles here this evening. Let's take a look at the starting lineup. Ryan Newman will be starting on the pole as we told you go and starting in the number two position is Jimmy Johnson. Las key will start third. Steve Kinser rolls off fourth and. Kenza throws off fifth. The six position belongs to Scott, Sharp, drives COPA will start from the seventh position in the eight spot will be Kurt Busch. Kevin Harvick goes from ninth. Scott Dixon starts in tenth JJ. We start in the eleventh position and Leo Castro. Neves will start in the twelfth position as they work around this race track for the first lap again by the pace car getting ready at the one to go signal when they come back this time. Let's take a swing around the race track. The announcers covering the action out there for us on a very cloudy overcast afternoon here at Daytona International Speedway. In turn one from Wilmington. Delaware is Mike Bagley. Job evening, everyone. I position high atop turn to overlooking C, a motorhomes and the cars as they thunder through the trial and up into the thirty one degree banks of turn one into wide enough that you can stack two and three and sometimes four wide. And that's where these drivers will pick their drafting partners trying to get hooked up with someone who can carry them to the front. The goal is picked the right partner, not pick the wrong partner and go backwards. That's where the draft warms up off turn to an onto. The super stretch cover all the action at the West End of the speedway here this evening that end of the back super stretch. Oh, they're heading off into tournament. Three to cover for him are in this afternoon is Jeff struggle of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Thank you. Barney. Good afternoon. Everybody thirty four hundred feet that's the link to the super stretch here. At daytona. Mike Bagley just mentioned start picking your draft partner up in turn to. And then you stay with them all the way down to super stretcher it as long as you can of course, picking drafting partner can be the difference between running up front or running at the tail end of the field to three and four wide racing. That's the norm here on a super stretching. I'll have all the action covered from a scaffold just outside of number three. And whether you pick the right drafting partner or not that story will be told by the time you reach the end of that long back straightaway. They're inclined to banking of tournament. Three. The follow the action there for Moran radio this evening from killing they Connecticut. It's Kyle Ricky. Thank you, JoAnne. Good evening. Everybody. Nearly identical turns into turns three and four here. At daytona. Plenty widened plenty fast with the same. Thirty one degrees of banking. These cars to work with in practice earlier this week these cars. Two and three wide comfortably as they set up. The twelve hundred foot run to the start finish line. I'm perk.
