"And and I remember on on on the oceans movies, I became friendly with Casey Affleck. But I never never really met. We're talk with Benny bass is big brother, Ben who was the best friend do Matt Damon. And so I decided to go to a party that Clooney was having for Argo because I was impressed. I was impressed with Ben Affleck craft and I thought he'd be pleased. You know, I was able to say, you know, I don't like being impressed because I'm so deeply into the work. And so into the life of what we're doing, you know, but I was impressed. I thought you'd be pleased to to know it not not to be found found a little pretentious or grandiose. I don't mean. In it that way, and so he was pleased. And then he said to make I have a question for you, get all the stuff you've done everything all this time. If he ever done anything that you were sorry. You did afterwards. I said that's a great question. Let me give it a moment. My answer is. No, no, it would be so disloyal to so many people dependent on our work and with the crew and the team of people that we have to put together some things work, some things don't work we live and die. We we make an I told you a the the the quote of James Joyce. Yeah. No life makes no mistakes. It sounds like the experience that you had with a glimpse of tiger. Actually might have made you a better person a major more aware. God, I didn't even glimpse of tie. Oh, my God a glimpse of tiger. Oh my goodness. I may have to write it because it was so so crucial there. I mean when Bergman called me because I said, yeah, I can't say note in Bergman. I mean, you know, I mean, but so I'll read his piece and then see if he'll call me in the west village, and then I can talk with him, you know. And and to me, you know, I was something like no, no was so deepen the hair on the back of my of my next up. It was like a how I would make vibration of sound of for a puppy or a dog or a baby or a child. You know, just like that. I said, okay, I'll come along out. Do what you want me to do? And that was some experience, you know, drug bubble often when I showed by. Many was ended. This is already fee notes. Still I don't think it was the longer by. But this was perce opposed to glimpse of tiger. I mean, I'm I can't couldn't get any work because I mean, you know, I pay for everything by the way. I mean, they paid for everything and they also had to have people. You know to have checked out of mentally, and psychologically, you know. I mean, I know I had no judgement and no perspective. But was able to get here to see for myself. Oh, we don't matter. How good you wanna be? My goodness gracious. The president of the United States didn't have time or a coat to go to pay respects to all of our fallen soldiers from World War One. Give me a fucking break. Will you that experience is no good or bad? Yeah. I mean, go to bed that that experience while I don't wanna be glib or anything like that. Yes. It gave me. But still I didn't know because when Bergman called me, I mean, I'm making we didn't expect me. This was all about my first wife now mind you I started out before. But was all about Barbara. You know, so interested in you know, it's like a gym, bro. Who's a nice guy in the movie that the second movie I did for Peter Himes Capricorn one. I save his life and bro. And Brolin to me at the fortieth screen anniversary of Capricorn one. You said to me e r a better agent for me the my own agent. And I said, you do you think that this business to me? No, I'm devoted to my son and his mother, I don't care what anybody is. But we all have limitations and Bergman and Amos to me like very early on in the process of the film, filming touchy said, you've gone beyond your limits, and you'll have to live more to understand what you've done and at that moment..

"Michael Myers, saying one million dollars. No, what's your shoot your eye out? Yes. Yes. And how many times did your mother say that don't run around the house with a pair of scissors? In your hand. You'll take your eyes out if all your friends jumped off the roof would you jump off the roof? How many more of those? Mommy 'isms, I'll give you something to cry about. That was my mom's. I'll wipe that smile on your face in any event th this couldn't happen anymore. These I mean that would be childhood by now, I was just thinking that as I. Heavens. So Robert Redford returns to the silver screen. He said this is going to be his last movie. No, he was I just read an interview with Vanity Fair who's hedging in that. I think he wants it to be. But I think he's leaving the door open. He says he wants to. He said that you don't want to overstay your time, and it kind of respect that. I think as an actor as as as a star, and he's been a star forever. I think you don't want to embarrass herself on the big screen or make movies that just aren't that good just to be on the screen begins. So this would be a great sendoff movie. It's kind of nostalgic. He plays forest Tucker, and it's a somewhat true life story, by the way, a gentleman Bank robber getting on in age Redford is what eighty years old now he he's got about their. I'll check his age. He's been a career Bank robber. It's not so much for the money. He loves the excitement of it. And he's been caught and put in jail countless times. And he's a fantastic escape artists as well this evolved during the during the the play out of the movie, he he goes up to a Bank teller, and he's kinda swab. He's got a mustache. Fidora, and then he starts to chat. And by the way, I'd like all of your money, and they kind of like him, and it's not their money. In any of any meets jewel. A widow along the way played by Sissy SpaceX. It's a kind of a a good sendoff movie. If he's not going to be doing in the future, and they develop a relationship. Casey Affleck is a a Texas detective who starts chasing forest. This is going to be his 'cause he's the inspector Javert. So it's that kind of a chase movie. The chase not not being cart chases, although there's some car driving in the movie, but it's it's the the hunt Casey Affleck going after Robert Redford. It's it's charming in spots. And it is kind of an image to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid in that one the the older more refined character Paul Newman played in Butch Cassidy and Robert Redford, the the young impulsive guy played the Sundance kid that movie came out in nineteen sixty nine by the way. In this. This new one the old man and the gun small row for Danny Glover and Tom waits. So he's good to see Danny Glover. Oh, yeah. Like in a movie, he's a confederate of Forrest Tucker. The rubber Bedford character. Wavering a bit I saw it attaches artiste one of the art houses landmark guard houses just a few people in the theater, you said it's not about four million dollars bucks. Four point eight million. That's not bad. It's got eight hundred screens at its widest. And you know, if you're Radford, you'll get some attention more than your usual. Indie film. And this is an indie film. It's smaller scale, not as much razzle dazzle. But it's it's drawing a bit of a crowd. And I think the fact that he said this could be my last movie appearance. I think that certainly helps you want to kind of catch them on the big screen. I suspect the four million dollars can be largely attributed to Robert Redford people if they've heard something about the movie and wanted to be reminded of the rogue Bank robbers you kinda like they'll they'll enjoy this movie. I also think a lot of films today are geared toward younger audiences, and this one has an older character. And I think there's because of the paucity in the in the marketplace, if you happen to be older, you might enjoy it when it can hear stories that maybe you can relate to so. Yeah. I doubt anybody under sixty is going to see. Check their ideas when they walk in the theater, but it's playing a theater near you. Yeah. And he's still going to produce directive, even if he doesn't act in movies, and he's look at that twinkles eighty two years old and his check that out more out of nostalgia than anything else. And I think Robert Redford, and I would not have the same voting heaven. Now, that's gave it three and a half of bags full of of money. Okay. About that. By the way, the Sundance music festival of Sundance institute. Right. I I did a little research on that that was created in nineteen seventy eight and it was originally called the Utah US film festival, and it was an effort to attract more filmmakers to Utah. They'd use that as a location for movies founded by sterling van wagon. He was then head of Wildwood, Robert Redford's company has movie production company, and it's still around, and it's still place that the people of flocked to but the name was changed in nineteen ninety one to the Sundance film festival. And of course, it was after Robert Redford's character the Sundance kid from the Butch Cassidy. Yeah. If all he did was create that festival and helped spark it that's quite a legacy because it's very it's a bit of a huge part of Hollywood. But of course, I think he's been made a couple of good films along the way as well. You and I were screening the other night screening of hunter killers about a very high tech United States navy submarine and an intricate plot involving the Russian federation and the capture of the Russian president by the defense minister who is leading a coup, I really enjoyed the movie kind of farfetched storylines. The navy seals are fantastic. But they're not god-like and yard able to to take on the entire Russian navy by themselves. But I love the technology of it. So it was fun to watch that part of it. It's a Tom Clancy kind of a movie, and if you like those kind of movies and books you'll like this one we'll talk about it in detail next week. What else we can talk about? Also mid-nineties new film from writer director Jonah hill..

"Old man in the gun. It's based on a true life story. So new story that appeared in the New Yorker several years ago about this career criminal on aimed Forrest Tucker, not the forest, Tucker, you and I do with. But this Bank robber who would kind of shuffle into these banks is this harmless. Old guy, codger and walk out with the loot because nobody saw them coming and nobody would ever countenance such a harmless. Old man being a Bank robber and Robert Redford still got it adorable, so sweet that smile the twinkle, the smile, the hair, the whole bit. It's a perfect role for him and early in the movie, the movie starts with him kind of doing one of his high and then getting away and the and the way that he lose the police is incredibly clever and it involves meeting somebody who's played by sec- SpaceX. And honestly, for my money, she's the secret sauce in this movie. I mean, I love Redford. But the two of them together every time they're together on the screen, it just lights up. She is wonderful and so charming. It's a very, it's been. It's directed by this guy named David Lowery who I- door he did. He did Pete's dragon. The Disney movie, the live action Disney movie, which Bradford's also in he did ain't them bodies saints. Oh, sure. Go with Casey, Affleck and Marra, which I loved. He did go story with Casey, Affleck and Casey Affleck in this one who plays the, he plays the Dallas detective who gets onto Tuckers trail, but they've made this into this very low key movie. They want to kind of subvert all the tropes of the of the cop chase film, and I feel like they almost over didn't. It's it almost needs a little bit more juice. It's very low stakes. It's very gentle. It's very sweet and charming also things. I love the score for music. You will love the meal score. It's got this kind of. Tro it all takes place in the early eighties, but it's almost got a seventies feel they use like old sixteen millimeter film stock and the the scores kind of that old school seventies jazz score. I just loved all those elements, but I needed a little bit more juice or a little bit more own. But you know, if you're just to see Redford it is it is in his mellow old, a Reverend space as it playing together. That sounds pretty great. It's pretty fun and is quite charming, so so good, but not does get, doesn't get the great doesn't get to great and I and I also kind of had this, you know, and we're going to talk about another movie called the hate. You give in a in a second, but there's also, you know, and I think you know, we've been talking in recent days about privilege and impunity and people getting away with stuff just because of who they are and how they look. And this is an example of that. I mean, this guy, he's he's, he's put across this terminal coot with with mischief streak. But you know. He heard people, you know, he hurts people in the course of this movie. He doesn't kill anybody, but it hurts. But he does whether it's physically or spiritually. Frankly, I mean, you know, it's it's, this is not a consequence free thing and it's a bit of it's got a moral ethical dimension to it that I think the movie slides over little bit. I, you know, on the one hand, I feel like Lowery's giving us credit to make that judgment on our own, which I usually applaud. But we kinda feel like it's a little bit too. Lead us a little bit closer hurt. I think to have a little more skepticism about about this guy on the part of the the filmmaker, but but you know, all in all, though it's a pleasant viewing experience. And like I said for Redford fan, there are lots of little nods to his past movies a little Omar as that our funds. So I wonder if in that and I'm totally, this is just me speaking out loud which you know, speculating. I wonder if it's tough tough for the filmmaker to portray Redford and that kind of light. It's like rain so much action with that's the buying. I'm trying to think. I've only seen him play a bad guy, like once was in one of the camp in America movie. The nasty guy..

"We are going to ban political and religious figures from the segment mostly to avoid having did have a back and forth with any listeners who disagree because that's just not all that enjoyable in i don't want upset anybody that's not even the real reason i don't mind upsetting people i just don't feel like dealing with any more political or religious shit we all have enough controversy in our lives this is a safe place was supposed to be have funny it's my famous person that i want to fight today is casey affleck which i know is a little random and i'm and explain why something about his face upsets me and on top of that he's got all the sexuale gatien's against him now with multiple outofcourt settlements i saw the movie the assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford which by the way is like eight and a half hours long and in that movie casey affleck pipped plays one of he plays robert forward one of the most punishable characters ever in it permanently ruined casey affleck for me now i realize casey affleck is in multiple you know classic movies what's the movie that bin aflac and matt damon wrote together goodwill hunting casey's in that just as a result of being ben's brother that's a great movie case he's not annoying in that movie but as a whole he has become a person that i want to fight and manchester by the sea was his most recent largescale success was nominated i believe it won many awards i think he won fort that was the most depressing fucking movie ever in very boring considering how messed up at was in the messed up circumstances the main character if you're going take me on an emotional rollercoaster to hail their better be some lesson in the lesson better be bigger than don't get shipped faced and burn your house down with your kids inside.

"I don't know i just take note of the fact that noone applauded not very many people applauded three billboards winning last night i i think that it is extremely unfortunate when we live in a time when think worthwhile i don't even mean good or bad i just mean worthy of engaged with the ark become hobby horses for for like a better better point political agendas that i do say political agenda even in this climate sounds procured i don't eat it i mean everything has to some degree of political agenda but what i mean is last year casey affleck was the subject of a lot of um not even rumors during you wendo but there were there was an issue with when he was accused of sexual misconduct and in a different era one year ago it did not cloud the narrative or effect viewers minds or maybe police maybe wasn't put in front of the rate voters find to affect their vote i'm not saying it should have i'm thing it did he won the oscar this year it would have been possibly a very different story because the this is where we are in hollywood and where we are in the world it is not outside of the realm of possibility to consider hey 'backloading or pay back lack of voting for previous injustices that some people see reverse says slow not even the reverse but austin an oscar races um people win awards not for the sing their nominated four but for the accumulation of their resume as his work we're giving a new spin to the idea of you deserve it but also that people maybe people will not vote for gary oldman because of it at a public event and his past because of what happened last year with yep like now couple bigger piece the debate here i haven't seen darkest hour and a bunch of these movies i'm going to remedy that extra weeks i've not wake up barrett that their performances are the specifics of the movies um to the oscars have always been incredibly political the campaigning the voting the you know the everything about it so it is it it would be the height of hypocrisy to pretend that suddenly.

"Casey affleck apparently knows more about the batman situation that has brothers willing to let let on on eight 'nother radio station i won't mention for various reasons he basically said that his brother will not be played batman anymore i believe after the justice lee mood which leads us to an interesting discussion about the state of the batman union i don't know where we believe it is but i am somebody who considers myself in x patriot of batman nation it i stayed on through some of the some of the coup fear years but i'm totally out obama these days and that such a weird thing to say is a grown man the on bat made as a concept i just i can't think of the last time i got pumped for batman movie in a was hit a huge baleka unfortunately a fell asleep in two of those movies which is unfortunate mike riley where are you or batman at this point of hewlett really down on batman he's my favorite superhero but i do not like the bat flec so you're with me on this i think this is a good thing if a casey affleck aim phoolan who do we have on our radar as the preferred next batman of the day laboratory show and by we i mean the shipping will they need to correct the mistake because acts neider chose ben affleck because he wanted an older batman for the story arc but they're already running into the issues of having an older batman if they actually want to see this whole story line out the guys could be pushing 55 care that.
