Q. on Twitter and it's of course a goose island dot com and read brewing dot com we're talking about adjuncts we're taking we're taking ingredients and as I always say I think brewers are have lunatic half mad scientist because who else would think of some of the things that we're going to talk about being in beers going in beer what was it weird how did this start how did the adjunct star because we know about you know we you guys have talked a lot about barrel aging in that price and how that kind of got going goose is starting that in but how did you know like all right one of the beers will talk about later has Raman noodles yeah to be for those as a surprising to us is to you okay was there a point where somebody do you do you know who like the first person was it added something crazy your how did this all begin so we're talking about this and some of it is is calculated so like you know I'll see like Bourbon county stout the base fear that we put in those barrels is made a certain way and if you drink it without it being barely just got a whole different flavor right right once it's barely aged your your point always differently from the from the barrel so then you have that beer and you add ads on so like what we do is we try to complement the flavors that are already naturally coming out of that would okay so some of that is is natural you know it's like you add vanilla vanilla is in that would all right you know like Ross this if you like coffee it all makes sense but then you get other people are doing crazy stuff like in a pickle Cezanne puts pickles and beer that deal yeah the Mars made that deal Berliner voice yeah and it tastes exactly go what it promises like you know to your to your payroll so there's I know there's a lot to drink pickle juice I was pretty I I didn't hate it Justin the salt something too yeah I get no went when a brewery decides do this they're doing this on a very small scale right he you might have an idea go all right we're gonna do I don't know what you guys here how many barrels of day or up very well or do they just if it's packaged meant you know yet twenty first amendment out of San Francisco that hell or high water text of his great delicious refreshing summer beer that such a large scale peering at the coast to coast at the national did it so I was a tiny batch to see of it and had it right so that's that's what I'm saying you can is it is it hard for a brewery of goose a revolution size or even even a medium size brewery in town if they have an idea like this is it hard to just brought a small batch resent is at an easy and easy for you can do like we have like a little a two barrel system that's our pilot system okay could do stuff there's a lot of years that like if you guys ever come by I'll take you up says the taptic in his peers that might that might never see the light of day okay like experimental beers but you know it the beers that were drinking these guys made a big enough batch where they spend money on canning you know labels so that's not cheap and you wouldn't do like a small town barely bachelor you're talking like twenty three barrels yeah I have to take issue with one thing you said though thing we're drinking because we're obviously not we're doing a lot of talking what where to start let's get to first so since we are over I put a couple just because we've got a lot of crazy beers to get there I want to give your listeners the biggest bang for their dollar we want to take so the first thing we have is from our friends a pipe works it's called pineapple bowling scores can it's a Belgian golden ale brewed with pineapple juice lime zest and lime juice and then next to that our friends from Mars masters of the pickle beer jungle boogie retail and I'd like to name this has this is made with this this bush from southern after called really boost that it makes kind of a red herbal tea so it's got some of that in there and it's got a very T. like copy these fears are very different from each other but I both kind ads they try to bring in like a little extra bit of brightness with what they're ending also if either you can discuss how big that paperwork spears in terms ATV of got a shiny dollar fall yeah this is that's the pineapple one yeah it almost it has a viscosity like a barley wine to avoid just not only that my field so I'm gonna guess is pretty high medical eight point three while you're at it says ten and a half yeah group could you hear a pop you think all this can be light it's gonna be sociable for hot weather drinking yeah now that is where they they're not messing around six really good here I like that is delicious too what I really like about the Mars is the aroma and that it right on the nose it's eccentricity think very tropical fruity I really like that about the Mars jungle buddy both are very good we've got a text in before we go to the news and then we will continue with our at Joe's I listen to the show and my son who is in the craft beer can't believe how much I know so you guys are educate for you John with a humble Gator only be available at the in the tap rooms or will it be or will you be selling it in the stores as well so this is a smaller batch this pineapple coconut beer made about thirty barrels I believe the Hubble get real only be available at the tap room the brew.

Then you've got that changes over decisions. I think that risk fat if someone is probably greater than someone in the in the general failed and prophecies not something that needs to be right. You start where I finished last time. So I'm running away from where. We finished scoop, though to that. Yeah. I this bad thing. It'd be nice to you know, I think tackle the marathon again. Yeah. But how. So giving you going to do speedwork, right. You'll you may know we ask everybody the same question. Just give up that mirror. Right. Give up stuff and instead run six months amazing training dams can stupi coach if you won. Amazing training. Okay. And coach somebody like to be honest, you can still get it wrong. In a in a mile. So how about one single mile as far as you can with six months, amazing training. Helen's it warm up. I know twenty nine. Twenty. This is a form because I don't want to say too fast 'cause Donald might me do it. One mile spoil as, as you can as fast as I can four fifty nine just nine seconds year 'cause you gotta get inside. If the weather's lovely I'm gonna head out there, take a bag of sandwiches, couple of pork pies. Get up in the mountains, and Chit Chit big Al on. And whoever else is out there and just enjoy the trail running. And then on the Saturday, I'm taking my godson to his first park run. That's nice. Where are you going to go? We're gonna get to Mowbray which is actually reasonably new one and that's when he lives, he lives near there. So he's been doing some training. And he's yet. See preside for it. "Fast. Don't be afraid of going to race again, because it's, it's quite it's quite scary to think about getting another start line. Again thought of not knowing what could happen during the race but enough the risky. That's does Paul race in. That's why we do it for the thrill of anything can happen, both good and bad and say, I just love to run and being able to race is it does make me happy and train in really does make me happy. And, and sometimes say, when you don't have the rice, you want to be kind of think, nah, I'm quite glad that happened because it's, it's not all plain sailing say the last two years have been really put open awkward and quite almost like the fact that something's short me down. But not not so much shut me down still not pay be kind of almost but yeah, it's definitely a lot more learned than. If out of run a massive pay bay and experienced the what not fatigue feels like. And how important is to get the pace in Ryan. So many things. I mean in what about let's talk a little bit about afterwards. Because you, you khanate chess. Right. Your radio. Confer forgot that, right. Yeah. Okay. So your radio for India HFS you pitch up to work the next day. Yeah. Mentioning that week didn't quite work. I thought it might be. I mean, you will. Maybe we'll have some Tuesday legs and they'll be a bit so, but it just wants to was it. No. Now, I think what kept me up of ground, really was the fact that the will so much going on, but it was just absolutely insane to on the way to work on Monday. I stopped at Tesco express just up some lunch. The I walked pounded, one of the aisles. And so the front Korver news paper just though, what you. Yeah. On front page of three newspapers in this little Tesco in Birmingham and thaw. No that that call that. I'll be happening right now. And I remember message in down saying, I've just watched Tesco, and my face is everywhere, what's going on? And then just absolutely erupted from them. Absolutely crazy. What do you mean erupted from then it was got? Hey, my phone was constantly go in phoned trying to get phone interviews people coming into Kosei on Monday. The tale mail came into work. ITV. Telegraph ole came to just basically talk to me, and take photos of me at work. And I just I remember saying to my line manager. I actually have got work to do. And I just kept thinking whole got, but it was just so surreal energy message down the afternoon saying what is going on? Make is actually happening right now when it was just so I think we both so. Even describe it. What's the jetty feeding like, okay? 'cause it's tricky is nip, like ice struggle, sometimes with. Take this, the right way, Spiratou performance. Yeah. Because, you know, there are many, many, many instances of inspiring people in the London marathon. And man, this is going to send terrible. This is really terrible. Someone getting their pace. Wrong, isn't one. Yes. Absolutely. You know, I think the the thing we tried to say the whole way through was amount. Michelle idioms racial fullness was was your guests from us way Charlotte, and she, she was inspirational because she executes the rice promptly. And, and that's that's what inspires us to try. And thanks you doesn't happen again. Yeah. And, and also in just that I think what was amazing was the timing. You know because. Yeah, that was pretty incredible. And you'll spit second response to cross the line. The had it had ID you deal with some of the crazy stuff like was it private? I he on the. Yeah. The funniest I'd never even heard of the magazine and a member taking someone sent me a photo and send it to down and said, what's this is this a mean? He said, oh dig. Then a nudge us when I was at work come aboard. Eight came out, and I just popped ph myths to get a drink. And I saw the magazine and Phil really like his I think it was about, I think Wednesday or Thursday NFL will have died down by now. And I just thought, oh my gosh. That's my face. Again. And it was only just been able to look in the mirror because I'm not too sick of seeing face on everything at the moment. Yeah. Wow. You know that you've got a smile, the back, you know, that you've gone actually from a performance point of view. I did wanna PB, okay? It wasn't why what I wanted, but my fifth marathon of only been running for a few years. And you know this was a tunnel offs. Honestly, like I think the amount of time, it's done. I've just sat there and just burst out, laughing thinking, everything has changed. But I don't know whether it's good, or whether it's at it's just so many mixed emotions, but generally the positive messages, come out of it to show determination, and grit and is not could've even you couldn't even predict something like that. The so many negative things that could come out of it. People saying you shouldn't push body to that level. It's crazy. There's been a few few few thing I just kind of think the majority of things of Cornell is so positive the I can't really be disappointed. Yes, it's a very strange feeling. And I think that's why I'm kind of a emotional roller coaster was some days. It's oh, that's brilliant. Another days. It's like not so great. But the other thing about this is it's temporary. And. That's you know, something about media is, is every, it's everything in the thing. As leading, you know, it'll be forgotten until you run the London marathon again. Yeah. Hopefully another race where I don't finish flow only face. I think the media stuff will be around. Yeah. Okay. Here she is at London cheese back. And, and, you know, when you're back at London that something to prepare yourself for. Yeah. Because it's all you'll get asked about to emerge, and like Dan, do you have any takeaways for our listeners so people listing that go actually I don't want to do Carruthers?

"But you ended tone to it, which is a nonverbal. Hi, I'm Mike Carruthers, and that's the difference. So it it's tricky. But what we're talking about is. You're verbal and nonverbal communication and the words may be fine. But you're nonverbal communication can be sending a very different message is kissing ever appropriate anymore. Well, who you talking about at work colleagues if you're interacting with people, and you have relationships with them, and you know, them you may want to hug and kiss them. But the difficulty with that is that you have to use commonsense. And unfortunately, common sense, isn't that common? Because Mike, I may know you, and I've known you for a long time. I see you. I'm going to hug and kiss you. Now, people are going to watch me huggy, kiss you. And now they're going to come over and think that they can hug and kiss me. Now, maybe all right for you. But it's not going to be all right for them. And you've already established a standard that you're hugging and kissing people. So you have to be very careful. There was a young woman who would hug and kiss her customers. And she was an exceptionally attractive young woman, and when she would go to their offices. She would hug and kiss him. And it was fine. But one night she was at a dinner meeting. And she went up to one of her customers and gave him a big hug and kiss in front of his wife was not. Okay. So you have to use some commonsense. Handshaking? What what's the what are the rules for who sets puts their hand out first, and who doesn't and what if they don't and just run through that. I get more questions on the handshake than any topic. I teach there is a new guideline in the workplace today. And that it is we are no longer trying to base decisions on how men and women interact based on gender but much more on rank or host visitor status. So the new guideline is that the high-ranking person should extend his or her hand, I to welcome the other person. But, but, but but it rarely happens because there's so much confusion around the handshake you give the higher ranking person a split second. And I mean, just a split second. And if he or she doesn't extend the hand you have to extend yours. The key is the handshake needs to take place in the US. It is the proper business greeting, and if you want to be taken seriously, you must shake hands and you must shake hands correctly..

Interesting thing about people who get mugged or attacked all the victims ever spoke to always told me they had a bad feeling that something was about to happen. But instead of acting on it, and they continued on and they got themselves in the situation. Action that became horrible for them. Former police officer Salvator restraint author of the book maximum retribution says criminals, always look for the easy target. So the best advice is to not look like an easy target. If you can avoid walking alone, ask someone with you. Pepper spray where you can readily get to have a good charge cell phone don't wander around talking on the phone, and then have they're not very big. It's these personal alarms that bring very very loudly learning to use pepper spray and carrying it in your hand is a great way to protect yourself. All you really want to do is disable the attacker. So you can get away. It's not a matter of subduing them and hold them to the ground with the cops get there you want to get away. And that's pepper spray. Really equalizers the ground level, real quick criminals. Come in all shapes sizes ages and genders, you really have to keep an eye out for the person that's paying too much attention to you. And and when you see someone that's paying that kind of attention to you. It's always good to look them straight in the eye and acknowledged that you see them and not be shy about it. "So here's the question you have to get from point a to point b and it's raining so will you get wetter walking in the rain or running in the rain well let's look at the science if you run you get rained on from the top but you're also running sideways into the rain if you walk you'll get rained on from the top but you won't be running sideways into the rain so walking keeps you in the rain longer but will you be less wet by doing so no the physics is a little complicated but at any given second your getting just as wet whether you walk or run your speed does not affect how much water you walk into from the side it's the same at any speed just as snow plow will plow the same amount of snow regardless of how fast it's going the only variable is time so the solution is to spend the least amount of time in the rain meaning that you're better off running then walking and that is something you should know once again if you're a new listener in the last couple of episodes and you have a moment drop me a line and tell me how you found this podcast we're trying to figure out where this big jump and listenership came from and that would really that would really help you can email me at mike at somethingyoushouldknow dot net i'm mike carruthers thanks for listening today to something you should know.
