"We're talking with Carrie Roberts of the Greater Austin Crime Commission carry Prop B was approved over the weekend. That's the one you know to really change things. When it comes to these homeless issues. We know there's a lot of crime in the homeless community. Do you think some of that crime rate could go down as a result of Prop B being approved? Well, you know, unfortunately, enforcement options air pretty limited. I think what the, uh, the chief has told the department they'll do is first of all, they're going to have to Bag, you know, doing education and outreach program to the people who are living in encampments. They're affected by the ordinances and the officers will Will seek voluntary compliance, but we hope as a result of that, to your point that will see less crime in these affected areas. Talk to me a little bit about morale. Recruiting and things like that. These these officers have really been ripped apart in some cities, including Austin. How's morale out there? Well, I think morale of the challenge. There's no doubt about it. So we're hoping that's one of the reasons with the council vote on March 25th tol prove the manager's blueprint and now this week on Thursday with out of 10 Edible signal support from the Tweety and the council. You know that we backed the police department that we're going to provide adequate force strength in order to maintain public safety for a growing city like ours and start to rebuild. Is Austin, Texas, A safe city the mayor often refers to it is one of the safest cities in America. Yeah. I just want to get your general thoughts on that front. Well, I think Austin in many ways is still a very safe city and I've heard the mayor say that frequently, but we're sort of moving in the wrong direction. I mean, several years ago, we were the second safest large city then then the third and then the fourth and the fifth and so we're going in the wrong direction, and we're seeing Certain crime categories Spike Year over year, and I think that while many major metropolitan areas are experiencing the same thing, we have to pay particular attention in Austin because this is a community that we're used to being safe and our schools, churches and neighborhoods and You have to pay attention. I have to ask you, you know, because it's a controversial subject. I don't know how the Greater Austin Crime Commission feels about constitutional carry permit list. Carrie, that's something that's gonna be, uh, possibly on the house floor. At our state capital this week or next. How do you? How does the greater Austin Crime Commission feel about that kind of conversation at the Capitol? This constitutional Carrie? Well, we've not taken a position on it either in prior legislative sessions or this one, but we certainly share the concerns of law enforcement officials. We know that our police chief and many others from around the state Have you? No. Cautioned lawmakers about the unintended consequences of that. And so I think it will be obviously a decision for state legislators to make. But you know we are. We share the concerns of the major city chiefs. Interesting. Carrie. Thank you so much.
