The Story of Allen Carr's 'Easy Way' Method To Quit Smoking
"The easy way to quit. Smoking book started as a quit smoking. Seminar where everyone sat around smoking completely. Smoke-filled won't can in itself folk sewage. Bullshit that's john dicey. He was a heavy smoker as in eighty cigarettes a day when he attended a london seminar in the nineties. The smokers would all sit around in armchairs. Puffing away some conference room you're meant to smoke through the whole thing. A practitioner would be up front telling participants why they didn't actually like smoking and why quitting was no big deal. Every single practitioner has to be an ex smoker themselves cured by the easy way the sessions were meant to be one and done and the whole thing took about five or six hours somehow after all the talking and smoking. You're meant to put out your final cigarette and never take another puff. It's supposed to be easy and for dicey it was. He was so moved by the whole thing. He decided to quit his job. And go to work for alan carr. The man he considered literal lifesaver. Allan died in two thousand six. I wanted to know what kind of guy he was. Who just conjures up a stop. Smoking method essentially out of nowhere and goes on to sell fifty million people on an very tense worth. He was born and brought up in. What was it the time very down at heel area of london. He's scott himself as a straight Allen had zero medical background no psychology or addiction training before the easy way he was an accountant and like dicey a heavy smoker. Who wanted to stop. He saw hypnotherapist who failed to hypnotize him but it was at his appointment that he first heard. Smoking was an addiction something about that realization that he was well and truly addicted to cigarettes. It hits some switch in allen on sale. Crime tape never gonna smoke. The seat of alan carr is easy. Way is simple. It almost sounds too simple. You smoke because you're addicted to smoking and not because you enjoy. Smoking is still a hurdle for swastika out of them because a lot of people think to be addicted to something you have to like it and that simply not the case. The principle of addiction is in it. Messes up your understanding of a pleasure enjoyed allen. Figured if you understood that you could understand that giving up. Smoking wasn't really up anything at all. You didn't quit cigarettes. As gained freedom from them
Pandemic-Hit Oyster Farmers Turn to Conservation to Survive
"Olds. When the pandemic hit, oyster farmers found, the restaurant says sold their bivalves had largely closed. Many face economic ruin until a conservation group along with two federal agencies offered to buy up millions of oysters in New England, the mid Atlantic and Washington state as part of a program to restore shellfish reach that 20 locations. The Nature Conservancy is spending $2 million over two years to buy more than five million oysters for restoration efforts. The oyster reefs provide critical habitat for fish and help protect shorelines from erosion. Oysters filter of pollutants in excess nutrients from
"Vaccine passports" spark debate and division
"Another debate brewing over the idea of vaccine passports. The Biden administration says it will not mandate them. Of corporations, though making their own rules, and now several Republican led states air pushing back. The backlash has been swift. Texas Governor Greg Abbott, issuing an executive order prohibiting government mandated passports, government Should not require any Texan to show proof of vaccination and reveal private health information just to go about their daily lives. Florida Governor Rhonda Santa's going even further taking action to block businesses from requiring proof of vaccination. These moves will likely face legal challenges and make questions about whether governors could make these restrictions on private

Free Agency 2021: Biggest Winners and Losers From Day One
"Who's the biggest winner from day. One the biggest winner from day one already told you it was. It was a my intro. You're listening great question. Jonnu smith out. It's cam newton. Well that depends kenyans a starter for sixteen games. That's right that's true. It's yeah okay. Potentially find jonah smith. Donald smith big contract with the patriots They invest heavily in him. You like this for him i do. I think you know Obviously the quarterback is the concern. But this is the scenario especially with the move that they made that we look for in fantasy as tight end could be the leader of the pack in terms of targets and opportunities and so look cam was not good in twenty twenty. If cam does start sixteen games in two thousand twenty. One greg olsen. During a five year stretch was pretty awesome of the top tier tight ends of the guys that we did. We talk about what he was in the next group you know. And so from twenty two thousand twenty sixteen. Greg olsen averaged a hundred eighteen targets a season seventy seven catches Decide one thousand yards and five times. Johnny could do that. One season estimate put them right around a top five tight end. Greg olsen was great and not only was he great but we also saw from cam newton in that stretch that he could give you greg olsen. Who could finish as a top eight tight in five straight seasons and give you a number to wide receiver in four of those five seasons three or four of those five seasons whether it was. Steve smith or kelvin. Benjamin and even ted ginn one year. So that's interesting. I'll afforded talking about that on the show tomorrow on the tuesday morning show and then of course we'll have a whole bunch of more news items to react to. Hopefully we'll get some kenny golladay news at some point on tuesday or maybe it'll happen later on monday night as record this at about nine fifteen eastern. Who's the biggest loser from day. One the biggest loser from day one on asking these questions before. I told you that we were starting with these egypt's before the show The biggest guys they ryan tannehill johnny smith and Us down smith and corey davis They're going to have to struggle to replace those guys Davis probably more. So the jonah just from the standpoint of what he was last year with his production number two receiver sixty five catches nine hundred plus yards and five touchdowns. So we'll see what they do in in in that in that regard but i think Tannehill you know. I had him as the number eleven quarterback. I dropped in the thirteen after today. Just because i think it was close between in my mind. Joe burrow and tom brady put them behind both those guys. Okay how 'bout jameis winston ryan tannehill right now. It's soom jameis winston as the starter. I still go. i think it'd be messy. You know. I can't situation we're taking those not blaming So i was hoping james would go someplace else and tastes hill. Would still be the guy with maybe a rookie or somebody. Young that they could groom continued. Just gonna to get you know too much of the mill package of james as the starter and if as milton starter. Davis is gonna play very much so it just feels like it be messy situation oil. Who do you like better. Corey davis with the jets nelson agholor with the patriots. I think adler is going to be bad. I don't trust the situation. You know i mean he. He had so many big. Plays for the raiders last year and he was so good for derek carr but he did that on eighty two targets. I don't think he gets eighty two targets with the patriots. He's going to do the same thing. So with what cam does running the ball with what jonah smith brings to the table with. What the rest of the receiving corps will look like if julian edelman on the team if he's healthy Nagla is going to be A guy that's not on many fantasy rosters middle of the season whereas corey davis could be the best receiver for the jets. I don't know if that's going to be the case. But i would take davis by far over niagara.
Seattle Seahawks Today: Latest Rumors On A Russell Wilson Trade
"Originally or a few a few weeks ago russell. Wilson's camp released some information that he was unhappy in seattle. They have not formally requested a trade but it seems like the relationship has some conflict there. he has a no trade clause in his contract. There were specific exemptions from four. Team's the cowboys. The saints the bears and las vegas after dak prescott signed is extent like talked about and the raiders recently have back derek carr. They've given their full support. They they wanna move forward their cars. So that really leaves the saints and the bears as the final two candidates for possibly getting russell wilson this offseason so saints are always in salary cap trouble From what. I've learned about the salary cap they can. They ended up being able to just move money around when they need to. But they're always close to reaching that point so they're always during the cat but it seems unlikely that they will be able to make a move for quarterback this price in this caliber. So when you re comes down to it. The bears like the front runners as the most desperate team. Four quarterback if you've watched the nfl shares have always had quarterback issues. They've been in quarterback hell so to speak for the past two decades and russell. Wilson could come in and immediately fix that so the bears are desperate. And i see the bears as the front running candidate to lead russell wilson or land russell. Wilson this offseason. So when did all this start with russell. wilson is come out of nowhere I would say to myself when i first saw. Russell wilson wants out. I was shocked. But although it's not that cut and dry comes down to russell wilson. Mp carol's relationship. So they've won a superbowl. They made playoffs made. They made the playoffs. Eight times in the last nine seasons which is absurd. It's absurd to think there was wasn't been playing in the nfl for the last nine seasons But he's been assault as they come. He's true winner. he goes to the playoffs. he's clutch and i see. The situation is very similar to the tom. Brady situation new england. You had tom brady and bill play for all those years. Winning all those super bowls and talk. Although tom brady wasn't playing up to his level he wasn't playing bad and they had that loss to the titans of the playoffs. And i think he just had those two egos bill. Belichick and tom brady kind of going at each other. And they've they've finally kind of just tired of that relationship and they wanted to move on. They wanted to start. Something new. And when quarterbacks are with the head coach for so long things start to take a turn for the worst so. I'm not sure if that's exactly what's happening with p carroll and russell wilson but there are a lot of similarities there so it was reported in week. Eleven of the season. That wilson stormed out of an offensive meeting when he was trying to offer insight as to what he wanted done as on a bit done for protection standpoint and so that was the first sign the second sign is just overall. He's been getting hit way. Too much. says he's sacked. He's been three hundred ninety four times since entering the league which is on pace to be the most sat quarterback of all time which is pretty insane when you consider how well he's played and he's just been under duress running for his life literally for the last his whole career and so seattle hasn't found a way to kind of sure up that protection for him. I think that's starting to get frustrating as well. So but more specifically in two thousand twenty. He had a week nine loss to the bills. This was a defining moment for this offense offense because after that moment. Russell wilson had started to throw a lot of turnovers making a lot of risky plays they lose to the bills. The seahawks kind of started to scale the offense back like i said to limit turnovers and did not perform well for the rest of the season so before that game. They were top. Three league based on expected points added per play. They were the number three the top three leak and then after that game from from weeknight on they felt a number eighteen the remainder of the season. So that's a huge huge drop off so they really sputtered down the stretch. They were able to win games and make the playoffs through to their defense. Kind of picking picking up. Their play was weird. Their offense was so good in the beginning the defense awful and he kind of flipped that latter half of the year but he's also getting hit It doesn't seem to meet on their offensive loss of beat philosophy and he. He's definitely voiced that he wants more of a say. In the franchise direction as the franchise quarterback so all these things culminating into one is. Where would he end up.

Is there good morning members of the jury panel today. The painstaking process began. Have you been exposed any media coverage have a strong respect for law enforcement. Is that right. Michael Friend Advocates For Diversity In CRISPR
"Can you talk about what that role endangered so as a minority being part of minority coalition. How does that actually would say you're planning. Events are one out of the types of responsibilities. you're kind of involved in shore. What for chris. Carr my role on is on of the committee and really is to help develop strong. And broad foot trenton. Targeted monastic communities by by really joe trying to facilitate interactions with community based organizations to include aftermarket universities. Darkly restore cabrera colleges. Hvac us that had a very long standing history of mistrust to some extent. And so i kind of summit up just to really increase bernardi representation in these conversations around christopher and engagement with a very strong focus on making sure we have diverse forces some of our listeners. Who may not know exactly. What could a split on this. Can you just in a few lines. Dealers about guzman on absolutely or christopher is is an organization that really focused on the compensation crispin and they do it from the perspective where they're not be. The four or guest technology did not pro con but to really have conversations as it relates to this technology in house being utilized many ways and the benefits and risks down a bowl and started out by uc berkeley in conversations. There which later a year after moved to boston and she'll hope these. These conversations are kind of women around the country at really sparing Lotta interests around. Christopher and i can say that they've been very diverse voices after just faded indiscretions discussions. That's a very interesting role in vegas to learn more about your experiences by doing this. Just one question before that. How did you get into you. Know the crisper fields specifically was your background and christopher. How did that come to be that. You are involved in organized crisper con is. It's all started. President obama launch of the precision medicine issue which was pm. I in two thousand fifteen. I was invited to be a part of that much and that pm. I initiative is a multi year multi million on effort that was developed to keach around creating a diverse cohort to trutv by disease treatment for all but that program is currently known as all of us program and so from that launch. I started the minority coalition for position mets. So you're speaking under the bit of audio experiences. As an event organizer being part of that rising committee on crisper con- you had mentioned that when pulling together some event it was really impossible for you to find black researchers in the area. So could you elaborate more on the garden. Status stakes are the neck of diversity that you are seeing in the field. Well just to be honest. You know this is that i think at this point is kinda shameful in subsets. Your article article that you've written highlighting some of top companies in fear. Know as you look at even these compromises need couples this leading the work around crisper. You can see most senior today. Shes clearly the lack of diversity that so evident in these companies. And i think what is sometimes hurtful. Is that in this crisper in some ways to successive crisper. Really an johnny outcome A black disease sickle cell disease which is driving an has driven a lot of interest at of course financial investments. And so i would say at this point. It's not looking very good chance of diversity

In Georgia, a New District Attorney Starts Circling Trump
"Insurrection by the United States Senate, but his phone call to Georgia's secretary state of January 2nd could still trigger criminal prosecution. Something occurred here within my jurisdiction. That may be criminal. On our Sunday Atlanta's morning news, talking to the agency's Greg Bleustein of WSB Sandra Paris, where that investigation from Fulton Ta Funny, Willis and state lawmakers even could go next. Over the weekend, the district attorney describes her investigation is wide raising to The New York Times. Will that include more than this call to bread? Rapids Burger is one of fine Uh, 11,780 Well, that famous phone call to Secretary of State Rapids burgers there more there. 100% d a funny, Willis said that it will involve more than that one phone call. That's the starting point. That's certainly the focus. That might be the easiest thing that prosecutors could match onto because there's so much evidence you've got that that recording the half half the nation has heard. But she also indicated that she'll be looking at other things like Governor President Trump's calls to governor camp, urging him to summon lawmakers to a special session. Um, like the Senate hearings from a few weeks ago featuring Trump Attorney Rudy Giuliani, promoting falsehoods and conspiracy theories about the election, and one letter was even since Attorney General Chris Carr, who we know was also, um Urged by by President Trump, not Torto not to encourage other attorneys generals to fight Some of these false claims in court. So those were those were at least starting points for investigation. But as she said, an investigation like this is like peeling back and then you know, you never know what you're gonna find is you start Are going through these layers. D a funny, Willis says, says she's also opening open to considering not just conspiracy, but racketeering charges connected to the Trump campaign. And George is she Brought a novel racketeering case before the 2014 criminal trial against a group of educators in the Atlanta public school system who have been involved in a widespread cheating scandal. Mini-Episode "Answer me this" Guest predictions: Bears QB - burst 2
"First time podcast. Guest longtime listener mark silverman. Espn one thousand co host of waddle and silvy two to six every day on espn. One thousand. I am going to go and i had a list the other day on the show of seventeen quarterbacks who could be hat or who could be on the move and out of all of those if i have to pick one. I'm going to go jimmy garoppolo. I believe san francisco's in a position. Right now where they have a really good thing going and they want to replace jimi g. since he's been injury prone i think you can get jimmy g. for cheaper than he's been whether he's caught you could sign up for cheaper free agent deal. He may want to go back to new england. Maybe bella jack doesn't want him but ryan pace eastern illinois guy also Fellow good-looking guy. Just like with trubisky could veer that way as well. So i'm going jimmy g. And as a close second maybe gruden gets rid of derek carr and the bears would trade for garrett car but those are my two if you force me to pick one. I'm going with jimmy garoppolo.

The Patriots Quarterback Carousel
"To talk with the quarterback Carousel though. The latest Derek card may be on the trading block maybe on the market. Maybe not on the market. But what are your feelings? I think we're both in agreement that the starting price of two first-round picks is absolutely insane, but just in terms of him as a player. Where are you on Derek Carr? Yeah. I I think that all just start first with the overarching, you know, I think you're going to see a lot of teams put borderline quarterbacks on the market right now. I think you'll see what Jimmy Garoppolo I think you might see with Kirk Cousins those sorts of situations. It's just because teams saw the return for Matthew Stafford and they're thinking when I want some of that right? It's like what's going on in stock market gets hot. So everybody wants in on it. I don't know how like not every quarterback that gets put on the trade block in the next month is going to be traded and I think cars the first of a handful so I'm not going to like over-hyped that as four cars a player. I mean a nice piece, you know, I I'm not overly excited. You're right. The two first-round picks is too much where I look at this in relation to the Patriots we talked about this on Tuesday is 4 a.m. To get a guy like Jimmy Garoppolo there has to be a trickle-down effect, right? So maybe San Francisco likes car and then they get car and then should be dropping becomes available something like that, but I'm not you know going to do jumping jacks and say the offseason is saved because the Raiders are thinking about trading car, right and I think the biggest thing with these asking price is is that it's nice to ask for two first-round picks your job. Actually get two first-round picks for Derek Carr and even old PlayStation. I can ask you for $500 for it doesn't mean it's going to happen. Right and the other days you want to I mean the offer stands but no no, I'm good. But then the other thing is is that you have a trickle-down effect that you mentioned of the Raiders are not out there actively seeking a trade for Derrick Car unless they can upgrade at the quarterback position themselves. So maybe they feel and I think the report that was out there was that they were going to try to take whatever they get from Derek Carr and package their own pics together to make a move for Deshaun Watson, but if they don't feel like that other shoe was going to drop that you don't just trade Derrick Cartwright. Nothing left, you know with leave yourself empty-handed and now they do but actually it's interesting. You said that cuz you're a big Marcus Mariota guy. I never thought he obviously had his moments. You don't think they trade Derrick car for you know, if you can get to First for Derek Carr if you think Mariota is only a marginal decrease in those two first-round picks will help you out. More than that gap between card Mariota like you don't think they might look to just do that. I wouldn't but you being as high as Mariota on as high on Marietta as you are I'm a little interested that you're not going to flirt with that possibility as well. I would if you have a team comes in and offers the Raiders a Godfather offer for Derek Carr and they do offer multiple first or multiple Hai pics then maybe you could talk yourself in terms of replacing car and like you said, it's not that big of a drop off from one to the other and and you can have that conversation. But I think with Mariota in card me to me, it looks a lot like what Mario dealt with with Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee a few years ago where Mariota because of his pedigree because of his history with the club was the starter to start the season. It didn't go. Well they make the switch to Red Hill and the following offseason is when they decide to move on from Marcus Mariota, so I actually feel like the Raiders and and the Patriots, you know as a domino effect, or maybe one year too early on this dead. Our conversation may be we're having this conversation next to offseason when Marcus Mariota unseats Derek Carr has the starter and if if not, when if okay fair enough. Marcus Mariota unseat Sarah car,
Are Raiders plotting to trade Derek Carr, pursue Deshaun Watson?
"According to a report out of las vegas. The raiders are taking calls on quarterback derek. Carr it's suggested in the report that it could potentially be the beginning of a three team trade to get to shawn watson in a raiders. Uniform shannon vegas. Try and trade for sean top. Five top seven quarterback. I think you should be in the running for watson. Skip there something that's been on my mind and the bother me last week. I called you the night before and told you that has some information about about jon. L. came on the show and they're about six thirty top of the show. I said to shawn watson my sources tell me shawn watson has ashby the texans for trade and this is not. This is just being broke but this could ask a couple of weeks ago now. Adam schefter reported twenty minutes out to me that show watson to ask for trade basically saying that he's breaking the news which at and i said what transpired that he wants to go to the jets. He have a fondness for robert solid. Everybody keeps saying jason this and that so what they're trying to do. They're trying to add egg pool pork to a hamburger. That i've already made is still a hamburger. Youth and economists tried to add to the story back to this absolutely skilled. I don't this report came from chris. Simms yes okay. What transpired skill. And you said this yesterday. When he was when he was talking to the press conference the player he said the player of the the new england syria away to new caserio said the player yes he must have realized how it sounded his head because he started saying shaw desha. It's too late. You everything off his thing and our to our for everything to my agent day google level but anyway skill yes they should skip. I just got always got the impression. That jon gruden wasn't as far the derek carr. I don't know what it is. I could be totally wrong but it. Just something about yeah. He's good but i don't really know if he can take me to where i need to go. I am making ten million dollars. The i do have one hundred dollar contract. And we haven't been to the play. So i'm as you can be viewed as a failure skill for thirty million dollars ain't got nothing to show for it. And there's a lot of have to do with his defense. They print his lands. Twenty fourth and thirtieth last three years are good bradley the off season he so you look at it. They're waller. it's a top three tight end. They got josh jacobs. Who made the pro bowl again. If i'm not mistaken hillary rodham. He nice receiving corps offensive. Line is solid. Yeah john was. It will be a major player for them. And in this offense again. It's the west coast system skip. It'd be foolish not to try

How do you see that playing out for them tonight Yeah I. think that they gained momentum some confidence if you will in that game to come back I mean they were down sixteen with eight minutes left in the third quarter that is a lot of a lot of points to make up in a short period of time and where I think they gain the most confidence is the way Yokich took over the game. He's got to do this a little bit earlier and for longer stretches obviously, you're asking a lot of your superstar but that's normal in the NBA right and you saw at the end of that game not only with the post of not only with the rebound put back of the three pointer. bigshots he can. He can take over games in different ways. He doesn't even have to be the ones shooting all the time. So if he is forceful from the start, I think the nuggets have a good chance taking this game three I. Thank you for saying that. Put back on Maurice Short three-pointer everyday shots deserves all all the credit but I bought the most amazing shot at the last minute was put back. I saw somebody I wish I knew it was I wanNA give him credit talked to water polo coaches about what yoke does their tips in Frank Sola Nuggets need to do to that. That was Scott Cossio Love The New York. Well done. Thank you. Really. Thank you got about that. You know we broke down the Anthony Davis shot so much but can we at least give brought a little bit of credit I mean the guy so great that he just stood there and he had two guys. Pratt. and. It was still guarding right there. The Denver Nuggets have been resilient all year long they're gonNA eat yo kitchen Jamal Murray to play at a high level but I look at Lebron he realizes he's six wins away for another title getting these series over earliest important for him everything rides on tonight if Denver has any chance it has to happen you have to rely on Yokich and Murray those are the two guys have to carry L. Dunkin. Well I'm gonNA drop another musical reference on you because Al Green I. Feel like ask decades ago how do you mend a broken heart and I don't know that the nuggets actually have the exact answer to that it's not going to just be Murray and Yoga because Moore Yokich were enough right to have them there at the end the didn't have a particularly good game I don't expect that's going to. Happen for two nights in a row anthony. Davis has been literally unstoppable. He has suddenly discovered a jump shot out of nowhere and he's got a deep ball now and he can also hit mid range and he has been an absolute monster and basically unguardable in the paint. So I just don't know that they've got a so does everybody have Los Angeles tonight? Frank is Los Angeles Lakers Nuggets.

"To the Howie Carr Show. The number is eight for 4 542 42 8 for four or 542 42. It was another big day for Joe Biden. After he completed his telephone call. I'll excuse me his Video chat. He confused the telephone call with a virtual appearance in front of some black and Hispanic journalists. And it was It was quite a performance. Quite a performance. Wouldn't you agree, Grace. I actually said to tail her today, I said, where? Where was that clip from? Of Joe Biden and Taylor said his basement. Where do you think it was from? He's just been in his basement. Everything's coming from that basement. And it was bad. I actually thought today. The cut, which was in the introduction is probably worse than the one from yesterday. Are you a junkie that that's a tough one to wear as well? But there was something about today's that was I don't know. It really give you an insight into which line so condescending? Yeah, and that's kind of that's the level. His pandering is out where it's not just enough for him to pander to a certain group. He has to disparage another group to make the group. He's pandering to feel as though he really cares about them. And it's like a mean girl in high school, so you can't just be nice to me. You have to talk about someone else. It's really bad. He's just been looking. But One thing that did come up, Howie. So yesterday I mentioned to you that I noticed that Joe Biden does this thing where health started sentence and then he'll say I shouldn't go into that. I shouldn't talk about that. And then, like they were reading my mind Free beacon. One of those poor people at free Begin. I don't know how they deal with this went through all of Joe Biden's footage, don't you think? Grace. I'm not giving away any trade secrets here. But don't you think Like us, they have the numbers of the Trump campaign. Don't you think they maybe got a few helpful suggestions? I'm just saying purely from a cutting audio stands. This must have been painful to create. This is a montage of Joe Biden basically every single time saying I shouldn't go into that. Well as I joke with them, You know, I shouldn't say I'm going to say something. I know. I probably shouldn't say. Well, I tell you what, Uh,.

It's been turned into a big deal that he had what he's telling me was just a dinner. Party his quote Ed to the reaction that we've all had over the course of the last few days to the reports that he had a party over the weekend his quote. I understand except that there are additional responsibilities in media. Scrutiny that come with being an NFL quarterback but it's very frustrating and disappointing when people provide completely inaccurate information from anonymous sources. Especially now to set the record straight. I know that we all need to do our best to socially distance and like everyone else. I'm continuing to adjust to what that requires but the truth is that I was with fewer than ten people for a home dinner not a party on Friday night so he sets the record straight from his own mouth to what was going on as I take your take on. Espn radio the ESPN APP. Siriusxm channel eighty ESPN news. I thought that I'd find out that people are alarmingly pro going back but we haven't seen that yet. We'll get some of your take coming in just but I'm excited for this. I gotTA admit I'm excited for this. I get to give you the straight talk brought to you by straight. Talk wireless what we're GONNA do the. Qb continued series happens every single day. We break down a different team on. I take they look at the quarterback situation. They talked to somebody from the team around the team. And they give you a little sense of. What's going on the quarterback position specifically? Well we all know where my family's I'm sitting here talking to you right now. Wearing raider sweats raider. Hoodie and a raiders hat. Because I bleed silver and black. You all know that so. Qb continued today. Happens to be breaking down my beloved raiders. I'll give you a little bit of my thoughts but I will get thoughts from somebody. That's actually on the team right now as clean for the debated fourth overall pick from last year Who came in and had a up and down. Rookie year joined. I take today to talk about. Derek Carr and competition within the raiders. I mean I just feel like competition brings the best out of everybody and Co's grew preaches that fullest extent. And obviously I love the. Cdc someone who took me on nieces weighing the second I came in and You know obviously A Lotta fans might portray him as lie you know. He's Kinda IFFY and his third. But I love the defense. Obviously we just trying to bring in the best group of guys. We can have an quarterback role to kind of bring out the best out of everybody. We'll go from there. I appreciate your love for DC. Clean Cleland thank you for being on the show but I must ask you this question. I understand that you level. My question is do you believe in. Him. I know he can play. He's not a scrub completed. Seventy percent of his passes last year. I got respect for the brother. But do you believe that? He is the franchise quarterback for the future that God move forward with for years to come. I definitely feel. Idc has that. No no I mean we wanna give them all that money for no reason. I mean you definitely got to look at how things went last year. You know obviously the situation when it's only ordering work out the way that we want and Obviously we had a very young receiving core and that can be tough on a quarterback and receiver. So it kind of goes hand in hand but I feel like we we we. We will head in the right direction with with whoever goes out there. So I'm excited for DC hand. You Know Marcus to anybody who might get breath. Will they traded Khalil? Mack for draft picks. One of them turned into you and people were surprised we were projected as a first round. Pick but how high up you went and then you had your rookie season. Really good against the run. Not a lot of sacks usually defensive ends especially when they do the kind of grunt work or good or stout against the run are tend to be a little rated them when they put up the flashy sack numbers. What was your evaluation of your rookie season? I feel like I had a good rookie year. You know I put up. Some numbers probably every category. I would just say Just what the the way that you know? My team was asking me to play. You know I don't know if you've watched or not but actually inside and outside and I was a little bit of a different mix for me because I see that as my potential and luckily I feel like we have a very young group as a defense ally still learning to play together. But I feel like you know. Obviously I'M A lot. It's like the state you know what I mean you don't you can't you. Can't cook a whale good filet Mignon and two hours? I say time but when his red is going to be ready so I'm is actually she know what I'm talking about so you know I feel like you're going to be true especially because I really I mean I've been putting that work in for sure I take on. Espn RADIO AND ESPN news. I don't know if I can remember a quarterback that's more sort of vilified by a fan base and I don't know that I understand why I get tweeted. All the time about raiders takes particularly about Derek Carr because many of the fans have decided the Derek Carr simply isn't good enough. I would challenge that concept. Look I'm not saying that. Derek Carr is the next Aaron Rodgers and unfortunately in his MVP year for so many people that became the comparisons MVP caliber. I should say that became the comparison. It suddenly became. Derek Carr is going to be Aaron Rodgers. Good the fact is most teams. Don't ever have Aaron Rodgers. Could it just doesn't exist to that level so now. So what now what? Who Do you actually have quarterback Derek Carr last year with receivers that? Nobody's ever heard of completed seventy percent of his passes for four thousand fifty four yards twenty one touchdowns in a quarterback rating of one hundred point. Eight now I know stats. Don't say everything but those stats. His completion percentage was better in a head to head comparison. The Russell Wilson to Shawn Watson or Dak Prescott. His yards per attempt was on par with all three of them. In fact interceptions the second lowest of the group his quarterback rating the second highest of the group. You can look at him. Statistically and see that he's a quarterback that continues to perform at a high level and that's what's maddening is. He's spectacular no. Is he good enough? Yes and should that be good enough as much as that's the shocking answer for many people? I believe it is. We've we decided the Derek Carr is the villain because he doesn't take a lot of risks because he doesn't take a lot of chances and I understand that but I would challenge everybody that is standing up today saying there cannot be the future quarterback for the Las Vegas Writers. I would challenge every raiders fan to say that to at least go back in your lifetime like I have and remember the quarterbacks that you actually grew up rooting. For if you're forty three years old like I am that list. Forty-two almost forty three. That list is comprised of more names like Todd Marina Vich than it is names like rich. Gannon Derek. Carr doesn't get the credit he deserves. I'm not saying he's Aaron Rodgers but I don't think he gets the credit he deserves now. We're GONNA continue as we do with the. Qb continued every day. To get an expert on straight talk wireless. We're going to get some of that everything for only at Walmart we're joined now by ESPN radio reporter. Paul Gutierrez Paul. I was just waxing my thoughts on Derek Carr so give me your mindset on Derek Carr the quarterback lacking poetic Jason and as always. Hey you know you went old school on me and I know I'm a few years over the news so you're going back to Miranda Vich I'M GONNA go back and I'm hoping you're wearing Zubizarreta pants right now. You know because if we're GONNA talk old school I mean. I grew up with Plunkett. Mark Wilson and Wilson was the villain and Plunkett could do no wrong. Lunka was the guy winning super bowls and and it was ugly and it was dirty but he was winning. And that's the one thing that that with. Derek Carr I believe in Raider Fans Today. Is They think back to twenty sixteen and and how much he was kind of a gunslinger there how he was extending plays how he was playing at a league. Mvp level really until the broken ankle in the next to last game of the season and he hasn't really been that same guy ever since and yet you look at the numbers career highs in passing yards last year career. Best completion percentage over seventy percent. He is the raiders franchise all time leading passing leader in terms of passing yards. And yet. There's still something missing for for a lot of raider fans and and car fans we'll tell you well. He's missing a wide receiver number one. The Antonio Brown experiment blew up in their face last year. And they're still trying to recover and car detractors will tell you he's just not the same guy since breaking his ankle and my expert opinion and all this. They're both right. And that makes a Lotta sense while I would agree that he's become more hesitant since the injury but I would also agree. I mean you look back to some of the games last year and it would be like a trivia contest trying to figure out who was throwing the football to the receiver position was decimated so look at this team moving forward now if the argument has been. He doesn't have the weapons. And we're going to continue the quarterback series with Derek Carr. How does he continue this year? How how do they do? They have better weapons forum in your mind. Well not unless they draft or get wide receiver one. Because that's the biggest glaring hole out there. I mean like I said the Antonio Brown thing just blew up in their face and they were still trying to recover from it down the stretch of the season last year because that offense was really kinda built in geared towards Antonio Brown so unless they draft somebody or find somebody on the free agency scrapped. You can fit that role then. There's going to be that built an excuse. And yet you see what Darren Waller did explosive as a playmaking tight. It Josh Jacobs. Who if he doesn't Miss? Three the last four games the runaway winner of offensive rookie of the year that offensive line which is beat up all year. It's still kept him fairly clean. So there's not a lot of and I hate to use this word excuses for him but there's always that built in one about he doesn't have that play making receiver and yet if you look at certain plays in certain games on certain. Faiths these guys whether it's Zeh Jones or tyrel with with both aching feet guys were getting open. But they're also a lot of drops and that affects them his confidence not only himself but his confidence in his receivers to go ahead and say. Hey you know what I'm GonNa let you make a play. He had confidence in crabtree competence and Cooper until he didn't any longer. And you saw what happened after that we're talking to ESPN raiders reporter. Paul Gutierrez I. Take your take on. Espn radio I'm Jason Fitz. Give me your thoughts on the draft for the raiders particularly because there has been some speculation that they're interested in Jalen hurts or a quarterback that they can attain in the third round. That sort of level do you project that they will be looking at quarterback position in this year's draft depends on who you talk to and we talked to Mike mayock yesterday and he's obviously never gonNA show is true hand to us that he has his board. He's GonNa go that way because on one. Hand the raiders. Do have five six in the top ninety one. And that's great on the other. They don't have anything from twenty to seventy nine and that's may sweet spot so I can see them trying to trade back from nineteen and get back into the second round because they don't have a second round pick He likes her third. Rounders may say you know having three third round fixes almost like stealing And if they're doing their job right. That's three starters they confide. So when it comes to the quarterback position he could not praise Derek Carr enough. And here's the simple fact here. Is that this shutdown Every workout being virtual all that does is working..

Devastating story of female journalists who was duly ambitious and addicted and like found herself between two relationships like a lot of infidelity ability and then like you know the toxicity of alcohol while being really ambitious as journalist and she's no longer with us. She died very early on in her life but the book from the a disease or other things. This merely like very early cancer okay. Michelle wrote a book about loving dogs. That'd be a real hard one to cop to because in a nutshell for people haven't read it. Your dad was a cocaine addict. Yeah a crack cocaine. He and your mother and you guys arrived you and your sister turn your twin sister and they were very active addicts. The thing i remember the most was isn't there a story in their them going to a crack house. Remains just your dad in in leaving you guys in the car in the middle of winter so it's yeah it's the baby in the snow suits. He basically my mom was away and he we needed to get high and he said he wasn't the sort of dad that would leave us at home alone so he thought the best thing was to bring us with him in the car. It's there's incredible incredible moth where he recounts this night to like storytelling audio podcast and he goes into the crack house. He's supposed to be there for five minutes. It it ends up being what could have been an hour to three hours and he goes back to the car and is like what if they're dead you know checks if we're breathing living in his moment of reckoning because he knew that he said that god would not forgive that yeah held held older you guys. Do you think it was eight months. Oh maybe it was very early on mature. Don't bring us. Don't forget an associate's. Leave us in the crib. When you're yeah look i've made decisions that in the in the cold harsh light of sobriety make zero logical sense but at the time they were like bulletproof. Oh oh cams razor. This is the simple as best approach to this problem that now defy all logic so man just just handling eight month old twins ends. If you're dead sober in you had help would be too much. You probably wouldn't even choose to involve them in an errand like go pick up dry cleaning or something but he added just a man man. I can imagine going nope no sweat going to. I will be in their total formats. I'm gonna grab shit. I'll come back home then everything's golden wow in the fact that he owned that now. You and i have in common that so my dad also is an addict. Thank god he didn't have primary custody of us. My dad did and he got sober. He died thirty years sober. How how many years was your dad sober coupled around three or four years three or four years boy man and also there's a point in the book. I i just remember it. Being a great kind of cautionary tale. He had some long term. Sobriety life was going fantastic right that he hosted a a dinner party and people had left little bits of alcohol in different classes and he decided to combine them all into one glasses he was cleaning up and then he got to the sink deport on the thinking this is with some pretty long term sobriety plumbing and just said bottoms up and drank the weird fucking mix of every kind of alcohol would be served at a party and i just read that on oh god yeah that's an option for me still like just cleaning up and being like fucking crazy and it's what can you do to cushion yourself between you and the fuck. It's you know he just wasn't doing that anymore right. Yes i compare it to the tragic successive vaccine part of what they suffer from his how effective they are so people don't see people with polio and then they think i don't who's gonna get polio eleo. I don't i'd rather not have that chemical in my kid and it's like yeah because it worked and you don't know polio looks like so. It's like the better you get it get. It gets kind of harder to remember. Maybe that you need to do all those things right. Yes well and success like what what does it mean. When we sort of come across a modicum of success <hes> that we begin to feel special or like you don't want to sit in the room with everyone who's mentally ill even though every room that we're in is probably filled with mental illness i mean i just think that for when i asked him. How about his relapses. It really was like i just i served to believe i was special eliminated fixed it and that it was a crock problem wasn't an alcohol problem. If you look at him diagnostically it would definitely wasn't alcohol problem and but i think that what we need to examine is like relapse is part of recovery and there's this total weird thing that happens happens like he relapse and you shake your head and it's you know you're in the naughty chair for awhile and you have to raise your hand again. We're we're going to drink again unless we you don't yeah it's the most kind of predictable thing probably that will do the thing i like about this. Whole continuous sobriety as discounts discounts the fact that someone who maybe relapsed ten times over the course of twenty years but ultimately was sober for nineteen of twenty years. That's a huge win for an addict. Even if there was relapses in there and whatnot it's still a huge win and a huge victory and you can't only evaluate it by how much continuous sobriety there it was yeah absolutely okay so you. I do wonder how many parallels we have because your dad was charismatic. I met him before he was interesting charismatic. It was matic a good talker. My dad was a car salesman. He was the ultimate good talker. He was universally loved and a like everybody in a a lot people would come up to me like i. I can't imagine having your dad as a dad and i got a little resentful about that personally. It was there any is there any baggage that comes with having to dad who's like known for having written this book and he owned a lot of stuff but i bet he didn't own some stuff. You would have liked to to own or did that not happen. I mean there was a small amount of narcissism that persisted in his personality where i was an audience member. I was one of somebody see that you know i wouldn't be calling him and it kind of you know he wanted to talk about meeting you or you know the story that he wrote and it was just like being. His child was sort of secondary. I was somebody that could take in and understand and speak his language but i i was listening right and so. I think that there is resentment in that but i also if you ever if you ever read or look at an interview with him like he's so smart that i was genuinely learning every conversation we had so the resentment would dissipate when i was like oh this is an education and craft or how to talk to people or how to get to the story and sort of like thinking about that now that he's not here. I am so proud of being his kid. I want to continue talking about him because i'm so proud of him. I'm so proud of the night of the gun his book epic and devastating and dramatic and like there's almost nothing like it <unk> grow hundred pages. It's really really well written on top of everything else like the most brutal honesty. I've heard mixed with just great writing. He had a way of tapping nothing into universal's that i think that not everybody can really do now. Did you have any periods of estrangement from him for you always see because my story was i. I was resentful towards him. I then got sober. That kinda helped us but i still was carrying a lot of stuff. Everything i hate about myself is what i hated about him and then he got diagnosed with cancer and then we spent a lot of time together at the end it was incredibly cathartic healing and wonderful and i just wondered if you had any the of that similar journey yeah. I think that you're being able to see the conflict and see the things in yourself that you didn't like about him but also also for giving him <hes> that's rare. I think that a lot of people aren't they. Just let the resentment build and there's no forgiveness i mean i don't my dad was my primary mary parents and so i don't even i got angry at him. I didn't always have a place to stand ultimately. He did do the work right yes he. He raised you right yeah so that's relevant when you're reading the book. Can you remove yourself when you're reading it at. I would feel like it'd be so hard as a character in that story. It's so personal. It's mainly about him. Though so it's <hes> i you know they're they're developing it for graphics bob odenkirk and i fed about him playing my dad and they're trying to do it and tiree read it after he died and it was kind of just like hearing his foists his language and the way that he constructs sentences is sort of like deadwood meets don quixote. It's it's it's it's not a way that my my brain works and like i literally just wrote a book and it was like can be nothing like this. This is so you know well written <hes> but.
