"They are absolutely enamored with her. This is why, if she gets momentum, and she may, she may- Iowa's going to be a real big test. New Hampshire, South Carolina, these early primary states, and incidentally, we've got some great news to share. My dear friend and my pal, Joey Hudson from South Carolina, is going to be my 2024 election correspondent. We're sending him to New Hampshire, we're sending him to Iowa. He's going to be reporting on the primaries from those primary states beginning in January of 2024. I hope he has a really heavy coat. We've done some Iowa and some New Hampshire, and the genius has decided to put those elections in frozen tundras of America in January and February. Let's see if she gets some momentum, because they're enamored with this whole donor, you know, the whole establishment, donor class, loving- alright, so here's what I love, here's what I- Ron DeSantis, it doesn't seem, is catching on, Ron DeSantis isn't getting the traction that they thought he would get. My goodness, how much I would love Ron DeSantis saying, you know what, I'm all in for Donald Trump, I endorse Trump, and then maybe even a Trump DeSantis ticket, and then it becomes kind of Trump DeSantis versus the Nikki Haley globalist worldview, you know? A, we may get there anyway, if DeSantis- because I've said it 14 times a day, at some point there are only going to be two candidates left, one of them will be named Donald Trump, the other one will not. So who's that other one going to be? And the battle for that lane is full-on DeSantis and Haley, I think that's got to sort of play out naturally, nobody's going to bow out now ahead of time and gang up to beat- DeSantis or Haley will either be the last person standing, and then that will be the person, and it's a pretty important person, because other than Trump, and other than that Mrs. Lincoln, right? Other than Trump, who else matters the most? And that will be a kind of a natural Trump running mate, wouldn't it? If it is Haley, if it's DeSantis, I think Trump DeSantis, there's a way for that to work, please Lord and for everybody, just don't email the show, Trump would have to change his legal residence to New York, get it out of Mar-a-Lago, because- Takes five minutes, that's no big deal. Exactly, and he did it in 2000, but if Nikki Haley winds up being that other, that last person standing, because you remember 2016, it was Trump and Cruz, Indiana primary, first week of May, Trump beat Cruz, and finally it became obvious that it was going to be Trump. It was also obvious that Cruz was not going to be Trump's running mate. Is there something about a Trump-Haley ticket, because they have a sort of a different type of appeal? Perhaps, and she checks a lot of boxes, she's a female, she's a person of color, you know, I mean, and she's strong, she is, now listen, she's tough, she's a tough cookie, but I also wonder, and I'm breaking my own commandment here, I just don't want to criticize Republicans here, because I'm going to be- You're not criticizing, you're analyzing, get over that. But let me analyze this in a way that sounds negative, because it is a negative. So be it, it's okay, so be it. There is a perception that she's opportunistic, there's a perception that she is kind of- Yep, talk to South Carolinians. Well, but the South Carolinians who don't like her- Well, they don't like her for a reason. If there's a view she holds, like this stupid social media, everybody has to be verified thing, go after her for that. Opportunistic, she was the governor of an important state, she was UN ambassador, maybe this is her time. Let me make the case, let me make the argument, look at her, you gotta look at her track record, my friend, and you gotta talk to people who know her well.

"Think Biden's problems are sort of mind in part because he's the incumbent, in part because he's in the news more than Donald Trump. There are probably a time when Trump's warts become clear, you know, obviously if he's if he's renominated. My only expectation is I'm thinking that we should have another close and competitive presidential election, just like we've had really for the most part since 2000. As we think about what the contours of the 2024 primary race, are, though, Kyle, because of course we have to get through that first before we can get to a general. And we do have news on that front in the Republican field has gotten smaller. Tim Scott, the senator from South Carolina, has dropped out. Where do those would be Scott voters vote go? Does all of that go to former President Trump or could that be a boon to another South Carolinian? You know, look, I mean, Scott was not polling particularly high, particularly in national surveys. He did have some kind of mid single digit support in Iowa, high to mid single digit support in South Carolina. You might expect that Nikki Haley is the only South Carolinian left in the race. Maybe she benefits more in that specific state. Hear the full conversation on the latest edition of the Bloomberg Sound On podcast. "I kid you not. For the win with a capital W. His grandfather is Raul Armenta, part of the Chumash tribe and a member of the Santa Ynez band of Chumash Indians. Because dirty little secret, you know, who absolutely loves all the Kansas city chiefs trappings and imagery. And when the chiefs are rocking and rolling and they all do the, you know, who absolutely loves that Indians, native Americans, that community loves this because it's a celebration of their trappings, their culture, their history, the Redskins fans loved it, loved Atlanta Braves fans loved it. Cleveland Indians, George Floyd's ghost made us rename that team too. They loved it. So good for this kid. So what happens to the writer for Deadspin who did such a shameful thing? Does he, does he, is there any accountability? You know, we're, we're about accountability these days. You know, I know we talk a lot about cancel culture and all that, but there's gotta be accountability. Tommy Tuberville is so right to try to get the military out of the abortion business. And the, listen, the donor class, the establishment types, they are so angry at him. They're livid, Mark. You should hear the way they trash him. I know you do. And all he's saying is, first of all, you're breaking the law. This is the violation of the Hyde Amendment. The military should not be in the abortion business. He's standing firm. There's an accountability here, but you know what the donor, you know what the elites want? No accountability. Just promote the donor class. And then there's the donor class that went all in for Haley and is good. Any ABT, anybody but Trump because the donor class, God bless him for all the money they've made, but they don't have the spine. They don't have the armor. They don't have the will. They don't have the spirit for the fight that, that a Trump style candidate has. Well, I've been thinking a lot about, and I've been thinking about this Koch endorsement of Nikki Haley and Bob Vander Pla, all this stuff that's going on right now. And Nikki Haley's got some momentum. There's no way around it. And she's been great on Israel. She is, she is an establishment candidate in a way that both DeSantis and Trump are not. And there's a, there's a line of demarcation here that I think we got to draw between the Trump DeSantis vortex and Nikki Haley. She's globalist. She is absolute forever Wars. I'm sorry. She is. And, and talk to people in South Carolina about Nikki Haley, that you get kind of a different view of her from the worldview of the, of the donor class, but the donor class loves her. They are absolutely enamored with her. This is why if she gets momentum and she may, she may, I was going to be a real big test. New Hampshire, South Carolina, these early primary States, and incidentally we've got some great news to share. My dear friend and my pal, Joey Hudson from South Carolina is going to be my 2024 election correspondent. We're sending him to New Hampshire, sending him to Iowa. We've done some Iowa and some New Hampshire and the genius has decided to put those elections in, in frozen tundras of America in January and February. Let's see if she gets some momentum because there's this, they're, they're enamored with this whole donor, you know, the whole establishment donor class loving, all right, so that here's what I love. Here's what I, Rhonda Santas, it doesn't seem is get, is catching on Rhonda Santas isn't getting the traction that they thought he would get. My goodness, how much I would love Rhonda Santas saying, you know what, I'm all in for Donald Trump. I endorse Trump and then maybe even a Trump to Santas ticket and then it becomes kind of Trump to Santas versus the Nikki Haley globalist worldview, you know, A, we may get there anyway, if to say, cause I've said it 14 times a day, at some point they're only going to be two candidates left. But I also wonder, and I'm, I'm, I'm breaking my own commandment here. I just don't want to criticize Republicans here because I'm going to be criticizing your analyzing. Get over that. But let me analyze this in a way that sounds negative because it is, it is a negative. It's okay. So there is a perception that she's opportunistic. There's a perception that she is kind of, yep. Talk to South Carolinians. Well, but, but the South Carolinians who don't like her, well they don't like her for a reason. If there's a view she holds like this stupid social media, everybody has to be verified thing. Go after her for that. No. Opportunistic. She was the governor of an important state. She was UN ambassador. Maybe this is her time. Let me make the case. Let me make the argument. Look at her. You got to look at her track record, my friend, and you got to talk to people who know her well. There is a look and maybe it goes back to the Confederate battle flag controversy where she was absolutely going to defend it and she was going to support it. And then Charleston shooting happened and she caved and she completely flip flopped. There is a perception that she kind of twists in the wind. You know, I'm intrigued by the rage she exhibited towards Vivek Ramaswamy. Same thing is said about Vivek, that he is a tad opportunistic. He's a guy that looks for clicks and looks for attention and you know, maybe he has that same opportunistic streak. You know, wants to say what the people want to hear. You know that again, I could be... Has Vivek ever... because I think maybe it's the wrong adjective. That doesn't strike me as opportunistic. It strikes me as a moment of weakness because when she buckled on the Confederate imagery because of an event in the news, I mean, that was either right or wrong and people can feel either way about that. But if an event makes you change your mind, you know, if sprouting a gay kid makes you change your mind about gay marriage, you lost your focus. You lost your core values. Has Vivek ever done a 180 on something? Because I don't know. I think he has. No, I don't know that he has. I just wonder why she is so enraged at the guy and it makes me think that he reminds her of her.You know, it's almost like why... she went off the deep end. I mean, did you... you saw it, right? She called him scum. I know. And that was bad because even if... because there are going to be sharp elbows. There are going to be jerk moments, you know, in debates and Vivek can be a jerk sometimes because, you know, who else can? Trump. You know, who else can? A whole lot of other people. But it was that thing where it's like, hey, get your daughter off of TikTok. Maybe you ought to police up your own family. And that was stupid of Vivek and then he responded badly. I'm intrigued by your affection for Nikki Haley, boy, Mark Davis, globalist, ladies and gentlemen. Interesting. This is what you do. Interesting. Oh, no, no, no. I'm getting the text messages. Mark's got a thing for Nikki Haley, 800-655-MIKE. I will defend a weasel like Chris Christie against something that I think is unfair. "What? And frankly, Governor DeSantis did fine. He seemed to be sort of upstaged by all the arguing between Vivek and Tim Scott. And what's with Tim Scott and Nikki Haley both hating on Vivek? Was there something about South Carolinians that don't like this guy? The two South Carolina candidates just turned on Vivek like, I mean, Tim Scott, he's supposed to be this optimistic, friendly, upbeat guy with the Reagan-esque smile. Man, he turned on the last time we were up here, you said we were bought and paid for. It's like Tim Scott was up there seething for all these weeks and wanted to get back at Vivek last night. And Vivek wasn't much better. I mean, he's arguing with everybody. What a mess. If you didn't watch the debate, you didn't miss a thing. It did not serve anybody well. Fox ought to be ashamed. The candidates ought to be embarrassed. And the guy who won was Donald Trump, who once again proves his political genius by not attending. You think it would have served him well to be there? Give me a break. Give me a break. So welcome aboard. Here we go. Thursday, I mean, I don't think we're going to spend the whole show on the debate because I'm embarrassed to do so. I really am. 1-800-655-MIKE, that's the PhD weight loss and nutrition phone number. I mean, we'll play a little bit of clips of the clips if you want. What do you want to hear? I mean, was there anything substantive? Was there anything really achieved? Here's the headline at the Wall Street Journal, GOP presidential candidates fail to outshine Trump at second debate. I mean, everybody's saying this. The headline's everywhere. Trump won. He's 2,000 miles away in Michigan. Trump won. Trump won. I mean, let me share with you how bad this was. Now, again, I don't like to take potshots at fellow broadcasters. I mess up a lot. I admit it. I try to own it when I make a mistake. I'm certainly not the best broadcaster in the history of broadcasting, but couldn't they have done a better job than this guy? I'm Stuart Varney of Fox Business, and I am thrilled to be sitting alongside my co-moderators, Fox News Channel, Dana Perino and Ilia Calderon, Univision. Good evening. Oh, my gosh. Oh, my word. He like blurted out Univision when he couldn't pronounce her name. And listen, I do something when I can't pronounce somebody's name, I just skip it. I just skip it. If I'm Stuart Varney, I'd say the lady to my left, and believe me, she's to his left. She tried to ambush DeSantis with a question about the lie that was regurgitated by Kamala Harris, that the Florida education curriculum is anti-black. And that's a bald-faced lie. And DeSantis called her out right away, so she was a train wreck. Poor Dana Perino, who I love, I adore her. She's up there asking dumb questions about who do you want to vote off the island. Is that show even on TV anymore? Who watches Survivor? Oh, boy. Listen, it was a bad night for everybody except one guy, and you know who that is, and I'm not saying that because I'm a Trump supporter. I'm saying it because it's a fact. The overwhelming winner last night was September 28th. Who loves you? We do. I love being here. I loved being in the Salem News Channel studios last night, anchoring our post-debate coverage. Thanks to everybody who was texting me through the show and participating and viewing it. We had a lot of fun on SNC, SNC.TV. If you want to see the antidote and watch the antidote to the mainstream media, we're Salem News Channel, as well as right here on your favorite radio station, Coast to Coast, 800-655-MIKE. Join me, your voice, your call, your reaction to that debacle, to that train wreck, to that disaster of a debate coming up here on The Mike Gallagher Show.

"Welcome back America. I'm Hugh Hewitt. Byron York has stayed with me because we want to dial in and use Byron's expertise on the Republican primary. Byron, here are my assumptions going in. I want you to challenge them, walk through it. That Ron DeSantis is in second place and he's not going anywhere. Chris Christie is in second place or first place in New Hampshire above the contenders. He's behind Donald Trump. Nikki Haley is in second place in Iowa. They're not going anywhere. Tim Scott is not doing much, but he's got a lot of money and Vivek is just having the ball. Let's go through them. Am I right about Ron DeSantis? He's not going anywhere. I think you are. Yes. All the way through Super Tuesday. Well, no, not necessarily all the way through Super Tuesday. I mean, you've got to do pretty well in the Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina thing. You just have to. And if he, you know, fails to catch on in that time, I don't know that he actually continues. And that's only Iowa, right? I mean, if we were to look at today's polling, you get an Iowa bump, but you don't get that much of a bump. And then you're eating into Chris Christie and Nikki Haley. You know, I kind of look at it going from the bottom up. Okay. Okay. The low hanging fruit. If you add Larry Elder, Doug Burgum, Asa Hutchinson and Will Hurd, add them together, you get 1.6% of the vote. Okay. So obviously, I mean, they should go now. Okay. They shouldn't really be in the second debate. And each of them, by the way, what I was saying earlier, will end up in a higher place than they were before they ran for president. We could talk about that. But so it will have been a benefit to them. They should go now. But then the next person you get to is Tim Scott. Vice President Pence. Vice President Pence. Well, I'm going up the 2024 polls. But well, if you want to get Pence, listen, I've been writing. I think Pence is just is in a fatally contradicted position. And it just worked for him. He's going to leave the stage at some point before Super Tuesday. I agree. Yeah, absolutely. Tim Scott does have this money. But I mentioned Bloomberg before. At some point, if you're just going nowhere, money doesn't really keep you in the race. What are his incentives, Byron? What are his incentives? What are his incentives? He's the one. Does he want to run for governor of South Carolina? Does he want to stay in through South Carolina? Does he want to win the two person South Carolina primary with Nikki Haley? I don't know. It seems to me that if Haley pulled, you know, keeps doing well and pulls ahead in the in the South Carolina prime, the South Carolina internal primary between just Haley and Scott, the two South Carolinians running that I don't think he has a lot of incentive to stay in. What's the downside for Tim Scott to stay in? Well, the downside is always the same in which you seem to be irrelevant and don't matter anymore. Damage to your future, right? Why didn't Tom Cotton run? Why didn't Mike Pompeo run? Because they see political futures and they don't want to damage them.

"And that's what the Democrats want. That's their wet dream. The Democrat wet dream is for every single human being that exists in America, citizen or non-citizen, to have the capacity to vote literally from their mobile phone. And that's what we have to prevent. And that's the reason why election integrity measures are so important to talk about keeping the precinct, paper ballots, everything has to be there. And that's what, like, we ran the resolution, but like we talk about, but I have, I have like the best analogy, I think, for, for, can we play this video? Do we have the video of Jeb Bush? Which, which one? I put, I put it in, can we play the video of Jeb Bush? Thank you all very much. The next president is going to be confronted with an unforeseen challenge. That's almost certain. It could be a pandemic, a major natural disaster, or an attack on our country. The question for South Carolinians and Americans is... Pandemic. Yeah, that was on everybody's mind. He said pandemic in 2016. That was on everyone's mind. So it might've been 2015, actually, when he said that. Yeah, that was 2015, 2016, somewhere there. But I actually think the Democrats thought that their handling of a pandemic would be their version of 9-11. That's like a pretty crazy statement, but 9-11... I get what you're saying. Yeah, you're right. 9-11 brought together Americans, brought together Americans by tragedy, but made everyone more conservative. I think they thought how they handle a pandemic. Yeah, will make everyone more liberal. Makes everybody come together more liberal. But a lot of the European countries have, like Germany, the holding party in Germany. I mean, there's been some ruffles in the parliamentary elections, but they institutionally got stronger during COVID. Totally. Yeah, they have actually proven that that's true because it makes sense. Health and human services versus the military. If they have the microphone, they're going to make your country more conservative. Dr. Fauci is going to make your country more liberal. So that was the mistake that Trump made in that regard, is giving a microphone to these people, not recognizing that. But my analogy in sequels is that Jaws, if Jaws is your 9-11, really warmly received by the entire country left and right, one of the best movies ever made, almost 100% at the Tomatometer, Jaws 2 is one of the worst sequels ever made, which is COVID, right, as far as national emergencies go. No one ever remembers the worst movie ever made, which was the sequel to the sequel. Was it that bad? Which is Jaws The Revenge, which has a 0% Tomatometer and 15% audience. That's one of the worst movies ever made. Which one was Jaws 3D? I remember Jaws 3D. Jaws 3D was in the middle. That was the third one, right? Yeah, that was the third one, yeah. But Jaws The Revenge is like heralded as like one of the worst movies ever made. So The Revenge is actually the last, the fourth one. So you want to talk about like the analogy of like, you know, I was kind of laughing because I was actually watching a Reading Rainbow episode. I wish I could pull this clip. I sent some pictures to the family, right? So we were watching a Reading Rainbow because you know how it makes all the sounds like, and like kids would read a book and go, and that's why I read this book. It's so great. You should go to the library and read it too. Did it do one of the kids? It was a September. I don't know why I was on this today, but it was one of the kids were talking about September 11th. It must've run that long. And one of the kids goes, I think that even though September 11th was bad, it was also a really good, and she was talking about how the country came together. So like after that, like that was the good part of September 11th. Yeah. People have, people have made that point, you know, Glenn Beck had the whole 912 thing for awhile. But it was funny because this kid on Reading Rainbow was like, Oh, September 11th was really bad, but it was also really good.

South Carolina ready to renew abortion ban around 6 weeks of pregnancy after Senate vote

"South Carolina's governor is promising to sign into law a ban on most abortions after around 6 weeks of pregnancy. The state Senate approved the bill Tuesday, and Republican governor Henry McMaster promised to sign it into law as soon as possible. The bill restores a 2021 ban that took effect when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned roe V wade last year, but the ban was overturned by South Carolina's highest court because it violated the state constitution's right to privacy. "All right, America. Welcome back. Now I wanted to get into some climate change stuff, but I've changed my mind. I want to go into something else. I want to talk about this story. This is interesting here because this is just funny to me. Funny but not funny, you know? Like I think you'll be able to relate and go, ah. Yeah, that type of thing. But listen to this, dianne Feinstein once confused Raphael Warnock with Tim Scott according to a new book, Feinstein has faced calls to resign from her fellow Democrats over her declining health. Let us continue. Some of dianne Feinstein's antics include once confusing senator Tim Scott, there are Republican from South Carolina with senator Raphael Warnock, the Democrat from Georgia, in the Senate hallways, according to an excerpt from a forthcoming book. The story goes that Feinstein previously ran into Scott, seemingly some time in 2021, congratulated him on his recent election victory and claimed she was happy to serve with him. In an excerpt, published in Politico, The Washington Post's Ben terrace wrote, it was obvious to Scott and the staffers in tow that Feinstein had mistaken the south carolinian for Raphael Warnock the newly elected Democrat senator from Georgia, both Scott and Warnock are black, Warnock won a runoff in 2021 with John ossoff. So the anecdote comes amidst intense scrutiny over Feinstein's age and fitness for office as she recently returned to the capitol in a wheelchair after being away for three months due to a shingles diagnosis. There have been numerous reports that her suffering includes cognitive decline, and this has been going on for months. So now everybody's up in arms trying to push her out because they'd prefer to have somebody that could take a vote and if she's not around, she's not voting like she ought to. And it's just interesting to me because I'm thinking I'm a Republican, I want her out and on vacation because what judge is Biden going to put forward? That we're eventually going to like, right? I mean, we don't have any of the chairmanships in the Senate. So it doesn't look like a win for us in any way. So I think, you know, hey, let it be. Let it be. But this is where we are. And ro Khanna, he's a Democrat, Bernie Sanders type. He's repeatedly been calling on her to resign. We'll see what's going on in a plus, I'll take your calls on that as well. You think she should resign. I say she's the only thing stopping us from a senator and Adam Schiff and Adam Schiff for brains. I don't know, what's better. Warnock in a wheelchair at home on a sabbatical or Adam Schiff in the Senate. Um. Not very bueno for me. Anyway, I want to do a little Hunter Biden here and the Biden crime family overall. We've got this clip here. I think it's numbers 7, where Kevin McCarthy is on Fox News today. Saying there are severe problems if the FBI withholds information from Congress and by that he's talking about this information from the informant, where he is a whistleblower saying, yeah, I observe Biden taking a bribe. Listen to this. James comer, one of your chairman, revealed a lot of information yesterday. But the FBI is still stonewalling a subpoena on information that might tie the big guy, Joe to these family dealings that were revealed

Lots of people are running. Christian uno. Mike Pence, maybe your fellow south carolinian Tim Scott. What is unique about the Haley appeal? Well, I think look at my record. I mean, I have been a chief executive. I've been a governor. I've run a state. I've had to deal with crises. I've had to balance the budget. I've had to manage a National Guard. I've had to work with her chains and floods, and I reformed education past voter ID and passed an Arizona E immigration law. I took 20,000 people from welfare and put up the work and created reforms in our prison system that gave us the lowest recidivism rate in the country. When I went to the UN, I dealt with thugs and dictators every day. We passed the largest sanctions against any country and a generation in North Korea. We helped get out of the Iran deal. We pushed for the embassy to remove from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but more than that, we made sure we had the backs of our allies and we held our enemies to account and we made America strong again. I've got the executive experience. I've got foreign policy experience and I've got a love for a country that I am determined to get back on her feet again. I

Nikki Haley to formally launch GOP campaign for White House

"Republican Nikki Haley plans to formally announce her 2024 presidential campaign today taking on Donald Trump. Nikki Haley, a former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador released a video yesterday declaring her candidacy. Republicans have lost the popular vote in 7 out of the last 8 presidential elections. That has to change. Today's event in Charleston marks the first time Hailey will appear in public as a declared White House hopeful. Her home state holds a critical early primary that influences the fate of the GOP nomination. Haley is the first major Republican to officially challenge Donald Trump, but she'll hardly be the last Florida governor Ron DeSantis, former vice president Mike Pence and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are among those expected to launch campaigns and Haley's fellow south carolinian senator Jim Scott is also weighing a bid. The Unrelenting Force of Dawn Staley

"So josh. He recently had a long conversation with basketball. Legend dawn. staley. I for those who might be less familiar with her career and background. Can you give us a quick snapshot of just what this woman has accomplished. Well i don't know if i can do it quickly. It's a long list. She was a two time. Ncwa player of the year. At virginia she went on to be named one of the wnba. Top fifteen players of all time daily off screen getting that bit rates jabber every time. She comes down with a line drive. She has a board time olympia and as the player time overall including her coaching career. Staley underneath will sell it. Twenty three game winning streak for the united states. She went directly into head. Coaching style was never an assistant coach. Her first job was the head coach at temple and she came to south carolina following a fairly long career temple and has taken south carolina from okay program to a national championship in two thousand seventeen. South carolina spectacular. Performance chappie you dug pretty deep into you. Don staley's background her early background. Can you tell us about her early days and her family growing up well. She grew up one a big family lot five kids. The matriarch of the family was estelle salia housekeeper. They grew up in a housing project in north philadelphia. Not easy but still staley was a disciplinarian in her daughter's words and everybody knows my mother. She's a headstrong woman. She's deceased now but she was known for her straight took. No nonsense backed down from nobody. You did not take her parking spot at the mall without a fight etc and down has carried that onto a much larger stage so just a very tight family and still somebody who's very much shaped by her mother and be the course of north philadelphia where she played against boys for most of her childhood and became not just very good but very tough. The neighborhood i grew up in you had to make sure that you had a reputation as being strong then back now from anybody was able to handle anything that was throwing your way and that has prepared me for any curve balls. Life can throw me north philly. Tough was the word her brother used. And they don't throw that around lightly a connection between the way she was raised where she grew up and the kind of basketball coach that she's become a where she was raised in where she grew up has affected every part of her. She is not a person who on some days. It's easy to play for our imagine especially early in her tenure at south carolina there were players who left the program high profile players. Who left the program. I would think don stay. They would tell you. She may not be for everybody because she is not going to suffer any foolishness. She will defend those players outside the program to the end of the earth. But that doesn't mean that she's going to give them an inch when they're in her. Jim staley has also become one of the more outspoken coaches and all of college basketball and josh recently wrote that quote staley. Mary's attributes that many have decided are incompatible. What did you mean by that. Well she's just fascinating to me because she is a black woman in the state of south carolina who has been pretty clear that she's not donald trump supporter. This is a state that voted for donald trump. So she's really walking a fine line there when she's got a lot of fans in a red state and she's pretty blue person but she's also shares a very strong christian faith with most south carolinians. She has been outspoken about police. Brutality inequality in the policing system at the same time. She's a special deputy at the rich county sheriff's office. She regularly rides armed with rich. County sheriff's deputies on their patrols. I do think that's relatable the coaches like some of the things that they do the de-escalate or tactics they use is relatable to deal with every day. Leon lot longtime sheriff of richland county said to me. If she wasn't a basketball coach she'd be a cop. She's just got that demeanor. Help people i mean. And that's what law enforcement should be about is about helping people and she wants to know people. She has a gift to gab. She can talk. Do you have to have good communications. Feel today law enforcement officer. She has that so you can't put her in a box and that's fascinating to me. How do you think she navigates. Straddling all of those worlds. She said to me that she is not stressed. I can't be anybody but me but at the same time you know. Most people here at south carolina in south carolina. Accept me for who. I am and i'm good with that and i'm good the ones that don't but i don't think there's a grand plan. I don't think she has an outline. I think she takes every interaction every moment and she deals with it very reflexively face what you could teach me something you can over me up to see things a little bit differently then. She's not a person who will not listen to somebody who has a different opinion. She says she craves hearing those different opinions. As long as the conversations can be respectful and stay within certain bounds. She wants that to happen. I can foresee a day where dawn staley is sitting in the middle of colonial life. Arena in the court at a podium and just taking questions from tons of people in the audience. Who don't agree with her on anything politically or socially. I think she would love that. I think she wants that stuff. But i don't think this is part of a bigger plan. I think she just deal with it from her. Core and then goes to the next day. Does the same

"I want you to open twitter. Look at your time line and tell me what you're seeing. I'm seeing pandemics and I'm seeing politics and I'm seeing. Maybe a little bit of Tom Brady in Tampa Bay which is might be the weirdest part of the whole thing and then I'm seeing a guy in the rain running into a stop sign and I'm seeing a kid getting smacked in the face by an elephant and I'm seeing another kid given out free. Hugs at nursing homes and That's that's what I'm looking for. Where are you seeing this? I'm seeing that from the most unlikely source. I think maybe ever which is At Rex Chapman Ryen. Which do I notice rex? Chapman popping up on your timeline. It was probably a year ago in the spring of Twenty nineteen and I started to get the texts from friends who were saying. Have you seen this video? And have you seen that video? And have you seen? Who is posting these videos? I'm part of this generation where I remember. Rex Chapman as Mr Kentucky basketball. I mean this must be the greatest high school basketball player that ever lived and then he's the first draft pick of the Charlotte Hornets and then he's in he's the white dude in the dunk contest. And then he's hanging thirty nine on Jordan. What he's with the Miami Heat he's Rexon. He's King Rex. He's sexy rexy and I'm like there's no way this is the same rex. Chapman has to be this other. Shabina out there. That just happens to be some borrow twitter superstar and it turns out they are the exact same person I think. A lot of people seeing XS tweets for the first time had a similar reaction but I also find it very funny that some people may be in their twenties and younger might not even know who rex. Chapman is or they just think. Oh yeah the guy on twitter. You does the videos so Ryan. Let's educate them and refresh people's memories. Take us back to Kentucky late. Nineteen Eighty S. What was rex? Mania Steel Diaper Dandy. That's going to be one of the all time legend the perspective. I'll give you that. I was a north Carolinian living all tobacco road and REX. Chapman was the guy that you made. Sure you got back to your television by eleven o'clock to see sportscenter just to see what he had done he just was. It was electrified. He was so smooth he was dribble behind his back. He was dishing the ball he was Dunkin. He was doing everything that require. Frankly white dude's weren't doing in college basketball that time and this is before the Internet before you could go on Youtube and post. Your own highlight video. People had heard about him but they hadn't seen him so any chance. You had to watch this kid from Kentucky. Play Ball you did it. He was foul before viral was thing. You've been under incredible pressure. And yet you just go on with life every day even though you're probably the biggest folk hero. I guess it's Cogan. Robert Disagree with that. I don't know I just take day by day. So rex was this huge star. And as you mentioned being Kentucky there was a massive spotlight on him. How did he handle that? He handled it by Kinda circle in his own wagons for me. I just wanted to play basketball. And that's it the playing part at Kentucky no problem I loved it. I was good at it. Could handle it no worries it was off court stuff. That really weighed on me. He didn't go to the cafeteria He tried to go to bars with his teammates and he was met at the door by the balancer. Who wrecks man? I'd love Login here. But everyone knows you are if I let you in here. The police will be here in four minutes. It just was it was it was a lonely existence surrounded by people all the time but alone every moment every minute that I wasn't in class or at practise either hsun by myself or sleeping and I was I think I was rationalizing as I'm getting my rest but I was depressed than just in you know back then. You didn't talk about that stuff. He believed that eighteen nineteen years old. He was just getting his rest. But the reality was He was dealing with depression by just going to sleep St cope with it. He started playing horses. He did what everyone in Kentucky does and He started playing the horses. A pretty young age and That was another time and place where he could feel normal. You know he could go to the horse track and he could put his face. You know in that race inform and everybody else's word about their race informs and they won't bother him so after his sophomore off more year REX declares for the NBA draft and he ends up with the brand new expansion Charlotte Hornets for the eighth in the draft and their first in the NBA. The Charlotte Hornets Select Rex. Chapman of Kentucky. What was that like a? It is hard to describe to someone who didn't experience it. Would Hornets Mania was like in Charlotte? This is bad basketball team. This is a team best player was Keller trip Yuka but they set an NBA record for attendance and they sold out every single game for years. It was Muggsy bogues and Dell Curry and REX. Chapman was the Young Guy. He was the face of the franchise. You the best player on the team he was in the NBA dunk contest. Meena I mean and going behind his back I mean he was he was a sensation his NBA career go. He never played an all star game. I mean he made the all rookie team The average fifteen points for game over a dozen years. He had his moments. There was a famous night where he hung thirty nine. Michael Jordan and it wasn't just Michael Jordan. It was the ninety six bowls you know the unbeatable 's you in Phoenix. He became you know as the six man. Essentially he became the most popular guy on the team. And so it was a he everywhere he went. There was a following the end. Why didn't he keep you got old? Has All of us? You know? Father Thomas undefeated and You know over the last three years of his career he had seven surgeries It just got to the point where he knew in that two thousand season with the Phoenix signs that that was going to be his last year because it just got to the point where his whole game was explosiveness and he was not. He did not have the capability to do that anymore. I I knew I was going to retire at the end of this this twelve year. I just wasn't very good. I was spending more time in the training room than I was. Playing wasn't fun at that point and I I had an emergency appendectomy right near the end of the season. I got back home and a doctor gave me a prescription for Oxycontin They gave me that Oxycontin. And I'm I'm telling you within two days I was in love like `I greatest thing I've ever had in my life

What are the best types of hornbeam for making a hedge?

"Says that he'd like to plan an English style hedge with Horn beam and he says a lot of the hedge information he gets comes out of the UK of course where it's a very popular over there at the hedgerows and he was Wondering about car PINEY specialists okay. Or he said would God knows way more than I do you car pinal. Carolinian better for the US. He says I'm in zone. Six B the citing question partial shade slightly damp but DOB wet clay soil with a Ph about five. And how thin would I be able to keep the hedge? Because I'd like to keep it about three feet wide and about ten feet tall. Okay I think either of the Horn beams would do the job. I've never tested myself or watched anybody else. Make a choice on that. However there's nothing wrong with his idea. His six be puts almost any plant. Well any of the normal plans for this area in safety areas safety wise in terms of growth. And so on. I'm not sure which one will be easiest to keep narrow however it can be done. I've even seen Chinese ELM Hint believe me. That's a big sucker when you let it get away. But I've even seen Chinese elm held at three or maybe well just you say even a Max of four feet wide if the person that has them prunes maybe twice a year and somewhat severely the only problem. I finally Chinese which I don't recommend is that it it heads up at the bottom so you don't have the the thickness you want at the bottom now. Then any of those either. Either of those plants can work He asks what else possible There is private private of the one called. I bullied him. I B. O. L. I. UM and there may even be nor more new cultivars of that but that seems to be the sturdiest one four Ohio. From my knowledge point I had a neighbor. Have an well. No it's gone now. I had a neighbor that lived on around the corner from me planted Bullying privet eighteen inches on center. And I you know. Soviet obey grew. He trimmed they grew trimmed. They grew he trimmed to the extent that in about this. I'm going to say sixth year. He had to put four by eight sheets of plywood against the hedge somewhat straight up not quite and then put a ladder step ladder against the board so he could get up high enough to trim it off at ten feet. I actually watched that happen. I know the new people to go over the. They wished he'd never started that. Because by then the Privet were pretty sturdy as would have been the horn beams Prove it won't generally speaking be able to be held at two or so feet but again for for that kind of height I would think three Max can be determined on any of those. Three plants. it will require considerable pruning and and by that meaning at least twice a year once. I would say pre foliage because neither none of those three is going to be a flowering plant of any consequence to us or him and then there will be the growth period where they'll just spill out like the hair I used to can't it'll have to be cut off again to hold them for the summer. So a dormant pruning such as now or reasonably close to now and then right after full growth. And I don't even know how to measure that but Plants that are being held above ground by being pruned are not being restricted below ground. So the the roots are going to grow and Participate in heavy top girl so It just needs to keep after it. Don't let it get out of hand because if you cut back too far after you've let and it'll be some berry baron tissue in there at least initially so yeah. I think the the the two plus they are bullying privet will do that and believe me. This guy was well bigger than I am and he I can remember it matter if two properties away I could hear him discussing increase. Whatever he did it for purposes they're condos built behind him and that well I think at ten or twelve foot. I'm not sure what it was. But it blocked out the windows and even it was dense enough in twigs in the wintertime. To let's just say dissipate view through so I know it can work. I know it. Do you have any any preference between the Horn? Beam and the privet considering he wants three feet wide and ten feet tall because of my experience with Horn. Beam being mostly as tree. Form Abed isn't of planted as a tree. I guess I would have to go back to the privet. I know how tough it is I know that he could stand the forbade sheets. Matter of fact he eventually he did a four by eight with a four foot extension on it and then his electric cheers. And I don't know how many times you cut Takhar work. I could hear him discuss that but I know the did work I know. Based on some decent recall that it was about three feet thick. Now absolutely a rule that you'll have to follow regardless of what your us keep it broader at the base than it is at the top as soon as you let that invert itself into a V shape. It'll lose son at the bottom. Where there's no sun there's no creation of activity in the plant and you'll have no screening and the lower three or four feet and he says he's already in partial shade well then by all means jr a dozen steep taper but it absolutely in other words if he needs to keep it three foot wide at the bottom. Max then he would want to be headed toward by the timing. Is that height two feet Max. Okay so that it stays with sun coming in clear to the bottom. That's the way to keep the hedge where you want to be

What you need to know about the South Carolina Democratic primary

"Right three things I think you need to know it's a huge deal huge deal what else is huge well I'm glad you asked glad you asked James Clyburn is a congressman Democrat congressman from South Carolina and South Carolina is next up when is it coming up in like is debate tomorrow when is the twenty twenty eight twenty nine something like that anyway Joe Biden original months ago all right even a month ago I'm gonna I'm gonna kill in South Carolina because there's more black people there tonight when they Love Me they look really they love you all of a sudden Joe Biden's gonna backing down from that job just a little bit but anyway with Bernie and bubbly Bernie when he won Nevada he is he's gonna run through everything I don't think he can be stopped I mean who's gonna stop focal how does barely forgot this Biden and but a judge are out of money and begging people for money thank god this is already in the red cheese cheese toast so who's gonna who's gonna stop Bloomberg yeah okay best elected body best of luck show and that that's the only thing that the Democrats want and that's why they they changed everything media everybody changed everything about the debate about Bloomberg was a change at all anyway James Clyburn he was on ABC's this week with George Stephanopoulos about Bernie Bernie is going to cost the house he things listen what you're already starting to see these these attacks sued for his background as a democratic socialist socialist how deep will that cut in South Carolina and if he's the nominee do you think you could put the house majority in danger a lot of people think so I do believe it will be an extra burden for us to have to carry an extra verses of Carolina and south Carolinians are printed lyrics about that title socialist and so I think that that would be a real burden forests in these states or congressional districts but we have to do well at if you look at how will we did the last time and look at the congressional districts these are not liberal or what you might call progressive districts yes we're moderate and conservative districts that we did well then and in those districts is going to be tough to hold on to these jobs if you have to make the changes for accepting is self proclaimed a democratic socialist oh boy they set Carolinians are gonna they're not gonna go for that whole socialist thing not going to be no New Hampshire well I will really be in Arabic yeah this goes to show how bad the Democrats are but he's saying look we we can have a tough time with a back all these areas again we won these house seats they they were they were conservative or moderate district your like hardcore lefty areas we're screwed we're screwed they're already said no firearms listen a lot of Republicans didn't think trump would have a chance going back twenty sixteen right but not many of them will come out and see the things they're saying right now about Bernie Sanders the does the depths they were like at trump's going to because this is the only one that did a privately that I know of was Martha McSally which you have a group of bankers in twenty seventeen which is a congresswoman we have the audio to prove it he said she said trump's gonna handed the house to the Democrats is really **** it up for us Baba I mean which is why it's impossible for us to trust anything she says nowadays or if you would just be a minute you know I was wrong will go a long way wouldn't this is a fight about anyway so one more from clubber this time is talking to CNN it's another example of how Bernie's gonna make it hard for Democrats to get elected listen and we are trying to rebuild our product you sound like a lot of your time to elect more people to Congress there only two of the seven members from South Carolina Democrats and then we have a candidate Jim Harris is running for the U. S. state Senate he is of great interest to us and we think we have an opportunity to pull off a great win in South Carolina Virginia Harrison and so we are concerned about having it take it from top to bottom that we can really be successful with wow it's gonna make us make it tough Democrats are so nervous they are so nervous because they see this is a loser now you can't take anything lightly you can't take anything for granted but trump's come out media he graduated burning over the weekend I want to get gradually Bernay that's what I wind see yet it looks to me that he wants Bernie to be the guy and I think it's all strategic player because it's gonna help like I said it's going to engage it's it's it's gonna it's gets basically going to how do I freeze this the right way I'm it's going to make it easier for we can it's it's gonna get the stronger ones more engaged and it's gonna get weak ones pushed over the line because the Democrats are gonna have to say yes I support a socialist communist guy or I guess no one then go against the party like that so I think strategically this is a brilliant thing we've talked about this and and the one person that could really benefit if Daniel Carr these is not able to get on the primary the one person of course is Martha she's the one we'll see we'll

Bernie Sanders is now the front-runner. And moderates may be too divided to stop him

"Bernie Sanders can claim the wind but it might be difficult for him to claim presumptive front runner status given the results behind him more am I wrong well I I would call the presumptive front runner either but I I mean there's no question that he is the front runner along with former south the mayor P. Bridgette Jimmy nor heard people to judge a couple years ago and here's a guy who has a strong showing by all accounts one the Iowa caucus and then as another strong showing in New Hampshire Bernie Sanders someone who is completely completely captured the attention of the left wing progressive base so now this competition moves on to Nevada and South Carolina we also should note that for the demise of the downfall of former vice president Joe Biden I'm not writing off he's there's still the contest in South Carolina which is a much more diverse electorate he says he's got a south Carolinian firewall but this is why Iowa and New Hampshire for all the pond in saying that they're not important why they are important because it has taken the wind out of the sails of Joe by here there's some new winded some new cells today with senator in the culture although you could argue that the Iowa and New Hampshire contests have out sized importance in the democratic race given that they represent less than two percent of the overall delegate count so I'm and where does the race go from here okay is it not in South Carolina you're absolutely right there are a lot of folks who are saying that you know maybe we should re think the way that we do the system and and and what not either way though it is an important our process as it that's candidates and vetting is incredibly important and it allows for the candidates to draw some caught some sharp contrast against one another oz so we should note that former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg is going to be a factor in this race especially with Biden's decline US senator Elizabeth Warren who is nearby in Massachusetts she had a terrible showing here and in New Hampshire she finished fourth machine be Biden and cold which are I think club which are goes to New York City today she tries to get some donors are trying to get some money and so yeah we we we go on word for disclaimer former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg is the current founder and majority owner of the parent company of Bloomberg radio and television Bloomberg LP you talk about non household names like Pete but a judge you could also argue that Amy called a shark coming in third place isn't exactly a household name either fascinating to see them emerging to try to capture the moderate wing of the Democratic race here when Joe Biden when he first entered was not just a household name but the presumptive front runner at what do you make of the shake up in this race now Lloyd's is it's it's the biggest story I mean just when you think of where Joe Biden started and where he is right now it's remarkable and that is why Iowa and New Hampshire are important is because at his his lackluster showings in those two states have really significantly hurt his campaign and his trajectory and its and its raise serious questions about his longer term viability does this raise the importance of South Carolina in this contest dead no but no question I mean provided to pull out early yesterday of New Hampshire and did go to South Carolina just shows how that really is in many ways shaping up to be his last stand where does Elizabeth Warren fit now with Bernie Sanders running away it seems at least at the moment with the progressive vote won't two points on that first and foremost in her campaign put out a memo saying that she is well positioned to continue onward through super Tuesday but there are serious questions about how much longer she can last a and the second point that I would make is that I would caution against people assuming that Elizabeth Warren supporters of Bernie Sanders supporters by default I there's a lot of polls and secondary pulls a morning consulates on a great job on those that show that allow that Elizabeth Warren supporters second choice actually booted judge met a lot of a lot of Warren supporters go for pretty judge so you know I I would caution against that that would arguably muddy the waters even further for democratic voters who might be still undecided in this race talk a little bit about the undecided factor here and potentially the independent voter factor here when you know that is a lot of the story in New Hampshire itself I mean that kind of encapsulates that doesn't it right Democrats say that it's because they're all excited about defeating the prospects of defeating president trump but Republicans say that they are thrilled with the lackluster these yes and that they've seen in Iowa and New Hampshire that we should note if you have your voting turnout was on level with last cycle this is so much of the story heading into this early voting Kevin is to relieve Bloomberg radio television chief Washington correspondent has been about the question between electability and purity in the democratic race now that we've seen some voting happening and you know strong showings from Bernie Sanders can Bernie Sanders make and argue our our our make an argument for electability for himself now yeah absolutely can I mean and and he beat moderates this is what I'd the exit poll data you Norman dated but but what is it we have you on this be is that one and so but the Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire according to the CNN examples beat did better with moderates and Joe Biden we let that sink in for a second Bernie Sanders did better with moderates in New Hampshire then Joe Biden that's a stat that you're going to hear the the Sanders wing completely echo and reverberate over the next couple weeks didn't wait on water it's you know booted judge one without club which are so pass on that front but he did Joe Biden on moderate and the same conversation we were having last cycle about the Republicans and that's why I'm so you know I'm not bullish at all on talk of a broker contested or whatever you wanna call it convention is because for most Americans who aren't as politically obsessed as you and I and my friend Dave you whoever gets the most wins the most votes as a wind booted judging Bernie keep winning Bloomberg chief nerd that chief Washington correspondent seven zero eight thank you as always for being with us from Manchester New Hampshire part of our team coverage of the democratic primaries and caucuses as we go on to Nevada next weekend South Carolina the weekend after that super Tuesday and
