"Unsettling. I'm talking about Patricia Highsmith, the American writer who died in 1995. Four years later, Highsmith introduces her best known hero, another persuasive conman and murderer in the talented Mr Ripley. So why did she focus on the dark side of human nature? And what do her novels reveal about the criminal mind? We bring together one of her closest friends and her first biographer, to learn more. That's all on the forum coming up after the news. "To talk to you wildcard line you're on the air with Caroline Davies where are you calling from please California yes Sir I think you are and it's a privilege I just wanted to get your opinion of on on could not be heard of one god and help the and the pyramids relate to our concept of one god. transaction interesting question I haven't studied Akhenaton deeply. however I have been around many people that have and feel that he was a teenager and potent and very very important force in the direction of the history and spiritual connection that was rather radical in a feature to that time when Akhnaton did come along to turn it. as relating to teach you are you saying it's symbolically as god or. you know for me personally I've always been drawn to the current. and for me there is something about the terms and. great on it on the fifteenth from a purely spiritual intuitive sense that there is something infinitely universal is yes I've seen feeling about it well I I think that's because whether you know let's just look at the tetrahedron first check which is pyramid shape which technically is the foundation building blocks for all matter okay so we have that association even though we're talking about a five sided pyramid tactically we look at the great pyramid of Giza it's a doorway I mean you know I I think that we can use it and particularly the king's chamber as a doorway. Stargate yeah. first time caller line you're on the air with Caroline Davies hi yes hi yeah it's a real pleasure to speak with you this morning where are you where are you Sir I'm calling from Philadelphia I'm an install better way better way but on a truly wonderful to hear somebody with with your attitude miss Davis toward toward information and mystery and it's very inspiring and it's an honor to speak with somebody that has gone to these sites and photographed these things and look at this thanks with the with the intelligence that you have and what I wanted to ask you I've been you know I've been very interested in the things recently. and I've been looking at and trying to figure which do you believe that that is the original face that was on this thanks I yeah go ahead no I I don't think it can be right right could be wrong but I don't think so yeah it out of proportion to the rest of the body of the sphinx is there is there a way I'm going to break that is is is there a way to computer project what it might have been if you recall on a documentary art we had a section where we had the he's not anymore but he was at the time the head detective if the frantic department as the New York police department yes I yeah and we had him restructure the face from what is left now. and it's it's certainly not the same face that has been attributed to the building of the things which is the center front right that it to me that the state has to stay in the car just because it's out of sync with the rest of the proportional ingenuity that the agent had right he's got that do you have an impression of which king that the face may be now. no and I can't figure it out and I was and it it would it would be wonderful to know what face was on it originally yes and I will try to see who is that over there yeah but obviously ways and means of doing that now will be to put all that together for a local very exciting yes it is true it's it's really nice talking. thank you Sir and I have a good morning east of the Rockies you're on the air with Caroline Davies hot here hi art the from South Dakota yes Sir it's a great pleasure to speak to your guest you know tonight I have a book here that I I increase the great pleasure of you know meeting John Anthony west in the you know soon falls last July yeah and I bought his book to travelers key to ancient Egypt. marbles it's a but a five hundred page book. on the all of the ancient sacred sites in the dedicates about fifty or sixty pages just to the Giza pyramids yeah and there is some mention in here of some research by Eric von Donna can. on the pyramid is headquarters for astronauts in the ET some kind of an ET connection. could you do you hold any credence to this at all I think it's very possible. so there you are that's your answer very possible but it's hard to say anything for sure isn't it yeah because that's what we're finding every time with social was so certain something else comes along and we go. and scientists like that as we as we become technologically more advanced I think will be analyzing that before we could make judgments accurately because we didn't have the right equipment to do so west of the Rockies you're on the air with Caroline Davies high yeah and very honored to be on your show where are you Sir I'm on damage on Washington all right my name is Kirk and had a quick question for the both of you you guys were talking about the passageways underneath the sink and what may lie in them what I'm you get young listener just got very interested in this thanks and well maybe what maybe hold in its messages I just want to know what's holding us back from going deeper and finding some of the answers that may lie underneath well the answer is we're we're about to go deeper if you listen on a Saturday morning to Graham Hancock and a rubber ball you'll you'll hear how quickly it's going to occur too quickly in their opinion and in two blustery and commercial away and they're afraid that a lot of the information that may be and there will be hidden or lost right are you concerned about that Caroline yeah I am I mean you know when you asked me before if I held the same feelings as well you know I'm not as in passion that that certainly is massively important and I I really feel simpatico about the idea of it being done with a lot of with respect that it deserves. exactly they are all right to them first time caller line you're on the air with Caroline Davies hi would you turn your radio off please. okay hold on okay well hold on for a moment everybody should prepare to turn off the radio right away are you there. not a war okay that's right you're not west of the Rockies you're on the air with Caroline Davies hi good evening near death Caroline yes. two things first of all. give me ten thousand five hundred years twelve thousand five hundred years ago is the date of all the morning meant according to the stars whether that's when they really built to for. the first from significant but on all put out the data you know they'll lineup stars including the thing. is twelve thousand five hundred years ago. and thank you was worth the three are heard something on the news very interested just caught the end of it and there was something about something being a hundred and fifty thousand years older than they originally thought that's right and the archaeologists were in an uproar right what was that okay a lot about your he was in the Seattle time Sir it was about the age of man in Australia they seem to have found evidence of modern man estimated to be about a hundred and seventy six thousand years old why would they want to be in an uproar over it would not make them happy is not their job no they would be in an uproar Sir because careers entire paradigms parallel forward if you if you accepted this and said look at people look new discoveries the online media well although yeah but those were threatened would squash you like a bug and it means change and some people are happy with the status quo our. well it's fine you can say that and I don't know so I disagree with that man but. look careers are threatened I mean people of build entire careers give lectures are at universities based on what they think has been true ends of their challenge you know it's funny thing. it has been said in was written in the Brookings report that one of the biggest groups of people that would absolutely go off there not if extraterrestrial life were found or the paradigms were crushed would be the scientists. they would be the least likely to be able to take it. and I believe that. do you. yeah. and and some of us feel a difference well yes indeed but it definitely wildcard line you're on the air with Caroline Davy soccer I'm finally got through Bob what you're just terrible roughly true because I started anthropology in astronomy after World War two and all of this stuff was like back the Peking man and all that kind of business but Caroline may I speak with you please yes. I was on a cruise with my wife to recall in nineteen seventy nine and we want to he's a. and of course she didn't come with me and I start to climb up to the king's chamber and then I saw the tunnel opened to the queen's chamber so I sh knocked down and it was only about four feet high and I just snuck in there. make dinner to put it in better English. and I got there to the queen's chamber and I wanted to my line Parcher which is what I heard doing meditation. and I lift my body. how long I was gone. all I know is when I came back here are going to get out of here. relief flooded back to the tunnel when I got there they were locked in the payment of because I thought I should get back to my wife. and my wife is a very spiritual person and she's written a book about the around us way back when he was twelve and we're planning a trip to the pyramids the other one to come with us. going to be mid Sir in October well we're leaving Mister Grover we're leaving on December we're leaving December December are well I'm going next October that's my plan so if you want to wait and come with us you're welcome east of the Rockies you're on the air with Caroline Dave hi. hello yes years most of them yes where are you I'm in no one Salem North Carolina yes Sir the your guess is very interesting and my question sooner would be are you for or even you are you familiar with any of the teachings of the nation of Islam. now Carolyn no thank you Mister bill make clay yes so why won't be you're your own many of the callers basically. sitting around basically with the for the tenants of the nation of Islam talks about I think represents you are familiar with the teachings how would somebody with your belief system look at the monuments at Giza. well I will open in the nation of Islam that the the age of man is it has a lot older than six thousand years or ten thousand years that that man that that human beings go back trillions of years so this all ties in with this is curry though Richard Hoagland and Hancock yes and that the we were taught that the moon at one point was a part of the earth cataclysm it was ejected from the earth and it will hurt and that's why you know you'll find monument only on the moon because at one point was part of the earth and then we're we're also told that the that that much of the the thing that you're finding now are basically things that man had done millions of men found under the thousands of years ago all right well look I I appreciate a Caroline the theory are held by many in science in fact there there have been some documentaries that recently the mysterious origins of man for example that theorize that man has been here and gone and been here and gone in cycles that contents I have moved like musical chairs. in that what old what is old is new again. you think that could be yeah. you do believe that yeah Caroline hold on we'll be right back to you this is coast to coast and if you seen the new hundred dollar bills the government's come out with they certainly are ugly do you believe these were issued simply to stop counterfeiting as the government tells us or do you think there might be something else going on do you know your government spends thirty two million dollars with public relations just to get you to accept the new money now for the rest of the story this new bill is only the first step in a sequence of events that the government is planned for you more importantly your money these events are designed to put more restrictions on.

have the right equipment to do so west of the Rockies you're on the air with Caroline Davies high yeah. honored to be on your show where are you Sir I'm on damage down Washington all right my name is Kirk and I had a quick question for the both of you you guys were talking about the passageways underneath the sink and what may lie in them what I'm yet young listener just got very interested in this thanks and well maybe what may be holding its messages I just want to know what's holding us back from going deeper and finding some of the answers that may lie underneath well the answer is we're we're about to go deeper if you listen on a Saturday morning to Graham Hancock and a robber above all you'll you'll hear how quickly it's going to occur too quickly in their opinion and in two blustery and commercial away and they're afraid that a lot of the information that may be in there will be hidden or lost right are you concerned about that Caroline yeah I am I mean you know when you asked me before if I held the same feelings as well you know I'm not as impassioned that that certainly is massively important and I I really feel simpatico about the idea of it being done with a lot of with respect that it deserves. exactly they are all right to them first time caller line you're on the air with Caroline Davies hi. would you turn your radio off please. okay hold on okay well I'll hold on for a moment everybody should prepare to turn off the radio right away are you there. not a war okay that's right you're not west of the Rockies you're on the air with Caroline Davies hi good evening curtain near death Caroline yes. two things first of all. give me ten thousand five hundred years twelve thousand five hundred years ago is the date of all the monuments according to the stars whether that's when they really built to for. they left burst from significant but on all put out the data you know they'll lineup stars including the spent. is twelve thousand five hundred years ago. and was it worth the today I heard something on the news very interested just caught the end of it and there was something about something being a hundred and fifty thousand years older than they originally thought that's right and the archaeologists were in an uproar right what was that okay a lot about your it was in the Seattle time Sir it was about the age of man in Australia they seem to have found evidence of modern man estimated to be about a hundred and seventy six thousand years old why would they want to be in an uproar over it would not make them happy is not their job no they would be in an uproar Sir because careers entire paradigms parallel forward if you if you accepted this and said look at people look new discoveries the online media well although yeah but those were threatened would squash you like a bug and it means change and some people are happy with the status quo our. well it's fine you can say that and I don't know so I disagree with that man but. look careers are threatened I mean people of build entire careers give lectures are at universities based on what they think has been true ends of their challenge you know it's funny thing. it has been said in was written in the Brookings report that one of the biggest groups of people that would absolutely go off there not if extraterrestrial life were found or the paradigms were crushed would be the scientists. they would be the least likely to be able to take it. and I believe that. do you. yeah. and and some of our fellow just as well yes indeed that that definitely alright wildcard line you're on the air with Caroline Davy soccer I'm finally got through Bob what you're just talking about roughly two because I studied anthropology in astronomy after World War two and all of this stuff was like back the Peking man and all that kind of business but Caroline may I speak with you please yes. I was on a cruise with my wife to recall in nineteen seventy nine and we want to he's a. and of course she didn't come with me and I start to climb up to the king's chamber and then I saw the tunnel opened to the queen's chamber so I knocked down and you know it's only about four feet high and I just snuck in there. make dinner to put it in better English. and I got there to the queen's chamber and I wanted to my line posture which is what a how to do a meditation. and I left my body I don't know how long I was gone but all I know is when I came back I thought Gee are going to get out of here and I really floated back to the tunnel when I got there they were locking the pyramid of because I thought I should get back to my wife. and my wife is a very spiritual person and she's written a book about the at Landis way back when she was twelve and we're planning a trip to the pyramids the are going to come with it. going to the pyramids Sir in October what we're living in this sector over we're living on December we're leaving December December are well I'm going next October that's my planned so if you want to wait and come with us you're welcome east of the Rockies you're on the air with Caroline Dave hi. hello yes yes Mister bill yes where are you I'm in no rush to fail North Carolina yes Sir the your guess is very interesting and my question to would be are you for or even you are you familiar with any of the teachings of the nation of Islam. now Carolyn no I would like to make a bill vaguely yes so why will be your your own many of the colors.

I don't know I kind of have this feeling Caroline there is I lean toward that what what I can see on Mars the face the artifacts the bare metal shapes up they seem to have a relationship to what's here on earth it seems somewhat unmistakable to me and then you combine that with the recent news about the media right and the fact that there was some form of microbial life on Mars millions of years ago and it doesn't seem much of a stretch to me to imagine there was a higher life form on Mars at one time laptop Courtney brown workers really interesting as well major ed dames two exactly all right wildcard line you're on the air with Caroline Davies hi hi Caroline this is sandy from prompt hello and on ninety three I have experience I've been really sick and and walk up one morning and I just in our hospital for a couple days and art. one into translate. and I was wondering in the land of Egypt and and the fans and then the ground near the moral or kidney had shadows the and I was just a young child and I was in the market place and I was looking for the house and mostly. and when I woke up I felt really really bad like it can work more later on that night I arrested three times. and I did in on something that I will never ever forget I mean it was just so if they have it stop your fall. for real. all right well thank you Caroline I've had about two days or three days of really strange calls about people experiencing sleep paralysis. what they call sleep paralysis this certainly in in an apparent wakeful state unable to move simply absolutely paralyzed many of the people who sort of give in to the experience or decide to let it go which is something I don't think I can do I haven't been able to yet begin to talk about an out of body or a feeling that they're out of body. that it is big it starts to become an out of body experience and so I I kind of startled a little when you mentioned lying in the king's chamber. and being in a state of paralysis. how long did that last hour. was it terrifying no no. I am very very lucky I of course I have fears in life we all do you all do but I seem to have less than the average person. so to me I I I but lets you know I mean. I actually personally believe in the continuation of life. and I and I mean that's not just I am saying that I really firmly believe that reincarnation yes and so a lot of things that I do in life. with with that you know deeply embedded in my sub conscious as deeply as that I think that you can start letting go of a lot of fear because what is there to be afraid off. well certainly if reincarnation is a fact you're absolutely correct what is your friend of it does the unknown and mostly we stay fear must simply for the unknown. and so I having had the experiences you know and a great talent please consider it I think that I don't think I can come to any harm and it doesn't mean that I will come to any harm but I have the great trust in and all they did you know I I travel and I mean I just did a seven thousand mile drive around Great Britain all by myself and you know spending time in the middle of the night in.

"I'm Westminster at the guardian dot com after the break does Prince Charles really take a toilet seat with him on his travels. Welcome back on the eve of Prince Charles's seventieth birthday Caroline, Davies reflects on her twenty years reporting on the royals. She has literally climbed mountains to try to get the story. Charles is off in another mountain somewhere in the village. And we were going on a head to wait for him in this smaller Ganic village way up in the Himalayas right above the Indus. So he, of course is coming in by helicopter. And we, of course, the press will have into on this really rocky cliff path and not for the faint hearted. And finally, we got to this small village where they were all really excitedly waiting Charles, basically, the prince was late because he was held up in the previous village, then they'll presenting him with a, yuck. So we actually said to his aides. Look look sorry. We're going to have to leave because we really didn't want to back alone that part in the dark. Suddenly helicopter was matching up out of somewhere. So that we could all remain there at this village for his arrival. It's really really weird covering the royals because it's not like any other form of journalism. The I do normally as journalist you you go straight to the subject directly or you're covering an event because it's something extraordinary happened. And it demands telling but with the royals you don't really get much direct access. And usually the event is the very fact that they're turning up. Nearly all the events that we cover with Prince Charles and the other royals pretty much stage-managed. He has a large press team. He has something like ten press secretaries and assistant press secretaries. I'm one of the jobs is to control press access. Of course, I understand that. Because you can't have the press getting in the way the engagement. But it does often mean that you aren't away quite some distance from the event that you're covering I found actually that one of the most valuable tools that you can have a reporter is a pair of innocuous because sometimes you play so far away. You really can't see what's happening at all. I think because people are so fascinated by the royals and by Charles, I think when there was a gap in information. It really does open it up for people to say, whatever they like. And there's been lots of weird and wonderful allegations over the years some of which have stock. One of them is that he takes a toilet seat with him wherever he goes. I think that stemmed from probably was I think Princess am gave him a toilet seat for a Christmas present longtime ago, the Windsors they do this at Christmas. This sort of thing where they give it to the really frivolous gifts and probably Charles properly said, oh, yeah. Take it with me, absolutely everywhere. But I think the scant evidence for that one. We don't really know the real Charles cage. Maly we get glimpses. But not as much as we would all like because we're fascinated. He is going to be our future king on the seventieth birthday as setting out his stall is kind of king. He's going to be one of the criticisms that he's to address really is whether or not he is going to be a meddling king. Over the years has no doubt that he has been seen as an interventionist. Prince the guardian spent ten years in legal battle trying to get some of his so-called black spider memos to government ministers released to the public. So that does show that he has been happy to meddle. Although he sees as motivating and convening power recently. He was asked about this in a BBC documentary, and he made it very clear that he's not that stupid that he says he can differentiate between the relatively unfettered role of prince of Wales and the very constitutionally fettered role of king. He stresses that he will respect the constitutional parameters. And I'm sure that he will seek to do that. But I suppose the irony is probably never know. That's all we've got time for today, if you are enjoying today in focus, please, please subscribe and review us, ideally nicely. My thanks to Caroline Davies. "Result, all American astronauts have had to travel a Russian craft to reach the international space station on Friday. NASA announced the names of eight astronauts who will be assigned to four commercial spaceflights aboard, Boeing's sixty one hundred star liner and SpaceX is dragon spacecraft. The director of Nasr's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Bob, Kevin described the announcement as another important step in the US space program. Our investment in American space exploration always pays back. I won't say dividends we're talking about multiple folds in terms of the human condition. So for that, we are grateful for for what NASA does and and what happens right here at the Johnson Space Center and all. Around our country. Now, here's what's exciting about today for the first time since twenty eleven. We're on the brink of launching American astronauts on American rockets from American soil. This into context, we spoke to doctor Mary and baby who spent a decade a NASA astronaut and has a track record of more than four hundred and fifty hours in space. Well, NASA over a year ago, announced three people that would be part of the first commercial crews, and they have been working very closely with Boeing and SpaceX that then they hadn't assigned them to a specific capsule or a specific mission. And today the mission assignments were made, and it's a very exciting day. There are two women. Sunny scenario. Williams was one of them that was assigned over a year ago and action. I'm one of the first test flights of the Boeing vehicle. The star liner is actually a rookie an unflattering astronaut. And she comes with an immense amount of experience as a test pilot. And as. Pilot. I don't know her personally, but she appears to be a fantastic selection. I think the public isn't aware that this is all part of Nassau's plan. NASA paid both SpaceX and Boeing to develop these vehicles in. They're still paying them billions of dollars to develop these vehicles. So in some sense, I'm not sure how commercial day are. Maybe a better term is private because these companies will own those vehicles will control those vehicles, etc. And then entities like NASA will contract with those private companies to do it. So in one sense, it's not too different in that NASA has wanted these vehicles and congress acted to have these vehicles built the differences, the amount of control that Boeing and SpaceX had over the vehicle designed throughout the process. And I think the biggest difference between flying aboard the shuttle and flying aboard. One of these. These two vehicles is just how new these two vehicles are. Anytime you get into a brand new vehicle and tested for the first time, that's a very different situation. And so John Young and Bob Crippen were the test pilots for the very first shuttle flight and not since nineteen. Eighty-one has anybody flown a new u s vehicle for the very first time. And I think that is a much starker difference than whether it was done under commercial contracts or with a little bit more NASA control than in the past though to Mary Ellen Veba, nothing. Astronaut speaking from California, the Japanese government is to to try to cure Monday morning blues, but urging companies to give their employees mooning off the plan is part of a wider campaign to tackle the chronic Japanese problem of Karachi death by overworking Unas LA reports. Japan has some of the longest working hours in the world with official figures showing that over one thousand young people work themselves to death. Every year, the ministry of economy believes shining Mondays and that is the proposal to let employees have a Monday morning off for a lion. Once a month will improve citizens work, life balance. However, previous schemes to reduce workload have been unsuccessful in February. The government launched its premium Fridays initiative, which encouraged companies to give their employees to after noon off. So they could spend time with family and friends only eleven point, two percent of employees clocked off early undeterred. The government has moved ahead with the new plans on us. A huge work of art has been unveiled in London to honor those who fought in and lived through the first World War. The giant lessons spit out the woods. Thank you and have been left partially blank so that members of the public can leave personal messages. The. The piece was unveiled exactly one hundred days before the one hundredth anniversary of the end of the war. Our reporter, Caroline Davies, was there.
