I don't know if they looked at me. Like i had to have the internet but They did seem very surprised. They seemed very surprised to see someone used the term meet in reference to an egg. So i was just wondering if that's an unusual way to put it my heaven see. We're talking about separating the shell from the inner part the edible part of the egg and edible part of the egg as meet exactly yeah. They were surprised. I think they got what i meant. It was just They were surprised. And you know. I wouldn't just talk about an egg like this pretty much. Anything where you need to separate Like an inedible outer shell from something. Edible like An egg or an orange or like a not. maybe sure sure Gosh i wonder if the people who had a problem with that. Have access to dictionaries if you look at Miriam webster In the first definition defines me as something eaten by man or beast for nourishment food but then the second part of that definition is the edible part of a nut fruit or egg. Oh really yes. Yes and you'll find that a similar definition in the oxford english dictionary. i mean meet. The word itself has a really interesting history because it generally referred to food or nourishment in middle english. What's really cool is that it became more and more specific over time to refer usually to animal flesh but In middle english you could call vegetables green meat and dairy products white meat. That's how generic that term was. And i guess generally i mean in general usage. When you're about you know. I'm gonna fry up some eggs. You don't say. I'm gonna fry up some egg meat or would you. Would you like some poached meat. But you were perfectly correct to describe the inner part of the Egg as meat okay. Do you know if people use the term this way in languages other than english. Because i i was talking to my brother about this. He lives in japan and he said that in japanese the symbol for meat is found all the time on like Packages of food and stuff. Like that plums. I think was the example eased. I don't. I don't know of any others do you grant It's possible it's hard when you have the cross translation. She restructured had business to online ceiling. And says this one decision makes me so happy. So following that email exchange with kendra. Love speaking someone that's had such a positive influence on someone else's life. What did you tell her in. Podcast what did you say the kendra that changed her life. Well i would love to know exactly what episode it was but if she found me specifically because she was looking for an alternative to person sales that could be as lucrative. Chances are she caught me at some point talking about the system that i started in my own business and that i now teach which is called the simple sales system and it is basically can give you a little bit back story. If you're open to hearing much she'll go for back in two thousand seventeen my business. I had been in business for about seven and a half years. Things were chugging along very well. I started in twenty ten when it seemed like. I'm a family photographer. And at that. Point the general message out there was if you're interested in making real sustainable money as a portrait photographer. You need to be doing in person sales so i learned how to do in person sales. And that's what. I did for seven and a half years and that worked really well but in two thousand seventeen my marriage was falling apart and my ex husband and i separated and all of a sudden what had felt like a pretty lucrative business all of a sudden i realized that wasn't going to be enough and it wasn't because my average per client income wasn't good with in-person sales and i know i hate throwing numbers out there because i feel like everybody's business different everybody's needs or different all that sort of stuff but i had over a two thousand dollar per client average which in my area is on the high end of good so it felt like. Oh i've got this really successful business. But when i sat down and ran the numbers that i needed for you know paying the full mortgage on my own. I have two boys who are now. Fifteen and eleven. Who eat as much as everybody tells you. They're going to eat and trying to save for being able to retire at some point and all of those different things. now that that was all on my plate squarely. I didn't have enough hours in the week to be doing my work the way that i was doing it. So you know these in-person sale sessions. It's not just the session. It's so much like ahead of time and afterward an so much extra like one on one time with the client and you can't skill added all so if i had had enough time in my calendar to add thirty more clients year it would have been fine but i didn't and so i was trying to figure out what i was going to do. And that was how i developed this system which is basically taking the sales psychology and some of the tenants that make in-person sales so lucrative and so effective and kind of reverse engineering them to make them work in an automated online fashion. So i started doing that in two thousand seventeen Pick time which is my gallery software that i use. They started noticing my sales averages in the online gallery and they reached out to me and they were like so. He's seem abnormal. Can we talk about what it is you're doing and so we started talking. They started talking about the idea of making it even more automated so they've since built an app that helps other photographers do it. And that really prompted me to start thinking about like This really would help a lot of people but it's not the sort of thing that you can just. It requires some explanation because it does you know there are several steps to it. So yeah i started doing more education. I've been running a photography conference for five years anyway. So i had already been doing some educating and i just kind of stepped up and game and that realm and that was a long answer to a short question so at that time. Were you looking to free up time to have more time to do things with the kids and look after the house and all the rest of it or was it to create more time to do more shoots like what was the mindset of dropping the ip s so to be perfectly honest at that point being out. We've all had different life experiences. But i'm sure all of us have been in a situation where even if we do a lot of work to manage our money mindset and all that sort of stuff we do get backed into corners where we get into scarcity mentality right and i feel like for me. That situation was that like. I just felt like i was back into a bit of a corner. I didn't really wanna quit this business. That i spent seven plus years building and go back to what i was doing beforehand but so many people were asking me like so. I guess you're just going to go back to your job. And and there were days. When i felt like i was going to be the case so when i first developed it it really wasn't a free up my time. It was literally just so that. I could take on more work so that i could make ends meet and stay in business. The very surprising delightful outcome was that it freed up so much more time than i even anticipated that it was going to that all of a sudden i had time in my business to start exploring other things. Which was you know. It was kind of like when pick time approached me if i had been spinning my wheels the way that i had been. I never would have been able to work with them. That was pretty time intensive projects. You know that we worked on together. But because i had now a lot of free time in my business i was able to say yes to that i was able to start thinking about like. Oh maybe i could make a course and now you know i do. I get to spend a lot more time with my kids which has been a really amazing turn of events as they have you know. They're at an age now where they're doing lots of sports in recitals and all that sort of stuff so they keep me busy noise so good in regarding numbers numbers two thousand dollars average that he's fantastic in anyone's eyes and we love numbers. Don't hold back to be with numbers. One of the things. I the lisa is already thinking. I he's automated. She's photography visas also educating photographers. She's running conferences. You know they sometimes think off speaking to my members thing is this just another guest. Who is more about educating photographer. Rather than working the business now you still have a photography business don't you ideal and i have never slowed down my photography business in all this time. I haven't increased. This is of my photography business. I am still working with about eighty clients a year. But i still take new clients all the time. I have a portrait membership. That i run. You know i still have my busy fall season and all that sort of stuff. It really has been just a matter of the fact that i've scaled to the extent that i can scale in a business that still requires a fair amount of one on one. I have an editor. So i don't edit my own photos but i do call them and i have a bookkeeper slash accountant but other than that. My portrait business is all me and it's just you know between simple sales and my crm. Which i do call my very lopate assistant. That is how able to manage the business..
