"Remember, oh, I I tried to catch a rising star when I was in anti with my friend who was a singer. And we've got a number and we were on at two AM. And we did a singing thing that didn't work at all who guy in charge of those numbers. Then mark. Yeah. Something I remember Mark who who was very hung over all the time. Right. Remember his name right name. Finally, I get into the impr-. Prov, and we got three minutes three minutes. And I think I have three minutes and material and Chris Albrecht passed me and said, I could hang out. So all was a manager. And I think he was the manager bartender or anyone he went onto become now, he's the head of ethics or no are ahead of HBO. Now, he's the head of starts. Right. He was very supportive of me. And he was the manager and. He passed me and said, I could hang out here had potential. So I would watch the people every night and say why is this funny tonight and to get the most out of? There was a comedian called Ronnie shakes or the away. I love Donny shake so much, and he had very structured jokes. And they were easier for me to figure out. Here's a great comic that guy. He wasn't the Tim. I still quote, his jokes all the time. There was another very funny comedian called John develops to. Yeah. Who became a comedy writer, and I liked his his jokes, and I could take different things. But the most important thing I just thought the first time I got up on stage. I was funny between jokes right on purpose. No. I was as a reaction as a reaction to them not laughing to what I had said. And I was funny about it. I said why didn't you laugh at that? I thought that was so funny. Yeah. And I said, well, let me try this one. And see if you laugh at this, very, honest, then. Yeah. Well, that was my I like to be honest. So I guess that's why Chris thought it was funny. It wasn't because I was writing anything at that point. Right. But I could just see just understand. Why why why what how is this not working? This is supposed to be so good. And I had it in my head, and it's not doing well that's better doing that than like just falling into yourself. And know, my first heckler said, why didn't you get a job or something? And I said, well, I don't even have a response to that. Because I'm so new with this. So come back later another time, and maybe I can answer with something very very witty of it too. It was good. Yeah. But anyway, so then I get and then there's another comedian female comedian called Carol Siskind herald, who's very funny comedian, she still running I'll think she'll stand up anymore. Well, she was she was still very good friends with silver. Yeah. And I just could not get on at the improv and silver. Just hated me. And she came over to me once and said, I can't put you on anymore because of your voice, and I said what she's wanting to talk. I said what do you mean? She said, you're you have a bad comedy voice. And unless you go take voice lessons, and you can't. So I said, well, the only problem I have. Over is people are laughing because I was getting better and people are laughing. What I was because I'd also went to all the the places where they had microphones. And they were restaurants are open mics everyone. So one night Bill Maher's there, and he said, you know, you're really funny and silver is really being mean to you come over to catch a rising star. And I will put you on this is like eighty two. Yeah. Yeah. So Bill was the first one he still says, I was loaded. So he he let me on catch a rising star. And then I stopped going to the improv because I couldn't take the abuse anymore. Yeah. I mean silver was rough. Because when I started in when I was in New York in the late eighties sort of the last days of that place, and she was still pretty tough. I mean, she liked me. But you never knew what you're gonna get. She didn't like me a little bit. It's funny about Bill Maher because Bill Maher's is with comics is pretty loyal and a good audience. So I give oh he's such a good laugh..

"I'm worried lying and you're hanging with lying in here on Sunday night. He always talking about kids the kids who were taken from their parents at the border coming over here months ago in Mexico taken as soon as they came into the United States separated put in cages, we know this. But what you may. Or may not know is there are a number of children who still have not been reunited with their families. And it looks like they may not be at least fourteen kids in care in government care have not been accounted for until recently. There were a couple of reports government reports that faulted the current administration for their lack of tracking efforts. And the report says the officials feel no obligation to find the kids. Who knows where the kids are they in shelters are in foster homes, they were taken from their families, and they'll never see them again. And it makes you feel so helpless. It just makes me feel so overwhelmed because he's our children who are going to be scarred for the rest of their lives because of our inhumanity. So what do you do about it? I gotta tell you. I have a friend Carol Siskind, very accomplished comic, she conceived and edited book called the best words posts of mad comedians, and it is a compilation of different social media posts by some fantastic, comics and all the proceeds every penny from her book goes towards reuniting and helping families seeking asylum in the United States, and I'm just so proud of her for doing this. It just got released on Amazon Carol, thanks for joining me tonight. Darlan? Thank you. Good to hear your voice. Well, here's what I want to ask you this book. The best words posts of mad comedians. Tell me how you conceived of this. Well, it was born of the anger and frustration. I've had this situation. You just described. It's it's beyond comprehension. That these people do not see the crisis the crime against humanity actually, take children from their parents. And I felt I had to do something. And I you know, I follow a lot of comedians and comedy writers online on Twitter on Facebook. And. I don't know. I just thought maybe we could I could draw from their posts and give the money to organizations like Ray sees on the Texas border and ACLU and some more local charities to try to make a difference. I love it. You did. I hated feeling that I couldn't do anything. So this is my effort to try to do something. The best words posts of mad comedians, and Carol gleaned, all these posts from comics, websites and Facebook and social media accounts. And you reached out to them people have really come forward to support the Sarah silverman's in their Kevin. Neal ends drawings in their Neal Brennan, Kathy Lagman Merrill, Marco liberal Reiner. Oh, Carl Reiner. And Jonathan schmuck, who's fabulous comic, actor and cartoonist tests, a lot of work in Harris brilliant. It's a great book. I yes, some of these poster hysterically funny, but they're poignant and important. I wanna talk go on over some of them. Carol siskind. Okay. Maureen lane. I have some here. I have bookmarked. All right. Oh, boy, remember who wants the shooter's to have guns, and who doesn't want the victims to have healthcare. That by rob Beckley wish that rob Becker. Rob Becker, Mike Dugan. Teachers with guns, I'm still working through nuns with rulers. That's funny. Again, very appropriate. Well, too. I mean when you wrote this when this book just came out, and it came out to support people and families who are being ripped apart. You saying on the cover all net. Proceeds from this book go towards reuniting and helping families seeking asylum in the US. So we have a caravan coming our way again, God knows what the plan is with those families. We have the horrible horrible horrific killings in Pittsburgh. So now, it's going to be the gun thing. Again. I it doesn't end the madness. It does and we have to vote next week and try to change the political climate in this country. It's unacceptable and really despicable. Thought that he is joking. These fires of hate by people who didn't get the love when they needed when they were young. You know, is pathetic. Well, you know, pathetic you hear about this guy. You say that you know, when he puts his maga- hat on. He feels empowered. He feels like a man he feels he has somebody leading the way like a father figure then you have this nut job with the bombs. Who's like, oh, they said he was searching for a father figure and found that and Trump. I don't know. Like pathetic thing is that people following Trump. They showed a guy on today who thinks Hillary Clinton sends a bomb Turner self. -rageous? It is insane. She actually sends a bomb to herself to make Trump look bad. Yeah. I know. I know here's Sarah, Sylvia. I mean, I want to read Sarah's post why white people who aren't aware of the massive amounts of racism and inequality in this country are like pretty girls who think everyone's so nice. That's right. Great. What are you? You got shot of respect for her because she's funny, but she tackles the issues straight on initiative free to say it, she's she's a real deal. You know? Let me just John de Bellas. Who's a wonderful comedy writer used to do. Stand up has one that says you can count how many times Trump really reached out to minorities on his middle finger my God, that's a good one. Good and William Stevenson. When you tell the truth, you don't worry about setups. So traps are people flipping on you? And then there's Larry Arab AMRO's that we both love Sarah, Huckabee Sanders, Christian liar. Nice. You guys have to follow Larry thinking, I'm sorry to interrupt. I kept thinking once the book came out, it might not be relevant anymore. Seriously. All of this people would think it was the timing was too late. Now, it just keeps being more relevant to every day. And I wanted to say if those of you who don't know Larry Amoros you have to follow him. I think he's currently writing for Barry Manilow and Oakland. He's been on tour with him for many years writing for him, but he used to write for Joan rivers. Yes. He is such a great guy, and soap, pithy and funding and hysterical as you Carol systems speaking with my friend, Carol Cisco, she conceived of this book and edited it's called the best words posts of mad comedians. It's available now and it makes a great Christmas. Hannukah kwanza guest. Yes, it does. Don't forget that perfect for the bathroom. You don't have to read it all at once their posts social media post from a number of different people. I'm in here too. So thank you for including me. I thank you for contributing read one of yours would use the favorites that you have in the one that's str-. Struck me. And again, this was before this horrific shooting yesterday in Pittsburgh, my heart bleeds for these people. But I said, you know, I have two siblings who are teachers and one who's a school social worker, and all this talk about arming teachers, I said, you know, over the rainbow is a preposition phrase under the desk is a school shooting. Just how times have changed in the classroom. You know? That's right. So let's make a difference. Let's buy this book and help support a great cars and. You having me on to talk about it. Listen, it's filled with so many, great comics, Sarah Silverman, Carl Reiner, Kevin Neal Strong's your drawings, which are wow, they're intense. People have to see really riveting. This guy Kevin Rooney is in there. He's hysterical. The book is available at Amazon, I got a bunch of get them. And like Carol said, they're such easy post to go through funny. Poignant powerful, you can sit on the John or your friends. Visiting just go through it. Just makes a great gift. Really? Does it? Sure does Amazon dot com. The best words posts of mad comedians, but not one penny as Carol taking. This all goes, all proceeds go toward organizations reuniting and helping families seeking asylum in the US and before I let you go Carol what I wanted to say to you when I think about. The horrific killing in Pittsburgh. You know, I went to a service for a family member of yours, and I was struck in the memorial about it makes me emotional about how in the Jewish tradition. You move on in that person's name do good deeds or honor them. And I just it was so powerful to me to see that. When I was hearing people speak yesterday in Pittsburgh part of this community. They said, we're activists, we do we, you know, I this our organizations at highest whatever the organization was it helps refugees we helped Jewish refugees escape Nazi Germany escape the Russian pogroms because we were Jewish and now because we're Jewish we help those who need us to who may not be chewing. That's right. I was so moved by the sense of humanity that I witness largely in the Jewish tradition. And I just that is a message that I I take with me. And I hope we become appreciate that. And empathy is something we learned not every family, of course. But in my family, it was a very important lesson. And unfortunately, we have someone sitting in the Oval Office who has no concept ability and no care about other people. And the only thing will that will move forward from this unacceptable. Active hatred. Whether it's sending a bomb or shooting people. Is to learn what it feels like to be in someone else's shoes. Yeah. Yeah. Carol. Thank you, my friend for being with.

"A good serious tonight. And now we're going to have some fun. Go ahead. I have Carol Siskind joining me she wrote a book. The best words mad hosts from comedians. It's really a great book actually included in it. And it's post from comics from Carl Reiner, Kevin Nealon is drawing, Sarah Silverman, and some comics you may not know of, but they're brilliant just post that they've done since Trump has been running. When he first started running till he became president. It's very timely and all the proceeds are going to help refugees and people seeking asylum, and it's pretty good what she's doing. I'm really proud of her. The funny thing is I help proofread the book, and I don't know if it happened in printing, but there's a grammatical error in my post. I think somebody change it. That's not how I wrote it. So anyway in the next cycle the next printing fix it. All right here, we go and listen coming up to want to talk about your favorite and worst candy for Halloween. That'll be silly and fun. But right now, I have to talk about something serious. It's this is driving me crazy. Here we go Trump administration failed to recognize that bore teen children in its care for months, I've been separated from their families at the Mexican border officials conceded this court filing, they had fourteen kids unaccountable, the disclosure raises fresh questions, of course, about whether the administration neglected to account for additional children after separating them from their parents under zero tolerance immigration policy in the spring two. Recent government reports faulted the administration's tracking efforts or lack thereof. My words and one report said officials feel no obligation to find the children who were released other homes before a judge ordered an accounting of them suggesting that the total separated under the policy may never be known. What the hell is going on? Seven of the fourteen children's parents have criminal histories that disqualify them from reunification so says officials with the health and human services department. The judge judge a federal judge in San Diego demanded in June that the administration account for every child separated under the enforcement strategy ordered by attorney general Jeff Sessions what I want to know is what are the crimes? These parents did is it murder is a drug trafficking is human trafficking. Or is it their second attempt to come into the United States, which at that point. It's a felony. And then you replicate from that. Let me tell you something in America. What's your felony? White collar crime you're gonna be ripped from you. I want to know what the crimes are. That's what I want to now all of the newly discovered children are five years old or older. So you're seven eight or ten you never gonna see your family again that great what kind of damage you're doing to that kid the hell are we doing send them all back if they're not being beaten or but they deported their parents. How the hell their parents? Can I think it is the cruelest most inhumane thing we can do children you just rip them from their parents? And they're not back. And then you're just like, well, I don't know where they are little Carlos. How do you? The fourteen children were part of more than twenty six hundred separated from adults at the border before Trump halted the practice in June. Of course, because there was international outrage. Jeez. The revelation calls into question, of course, the administration's months of assurances to judge lawmakers and the public that it had accounted for every single child. The investigation found that contrary to public pronouncements the department of homeland security did not have a central database of separated families. It did not have a central database of separated families and also found differences between homeland security numbers for separated. Children and information that other agencies were using. Every child their picture should have been taken their name, their parents names pictures of their parents next to them addresses connections, where they're going to be how old they are birth certificate. Birthdates every ounce DNA fingerprints the entire family, and parents should not have been deported about their kids. How do you do that history? My God history is going to look back on us. But who cares about history right now what I care about that child that little girl? Oh that little boy the hell are they are they are. And they can put them in foster homes. You know that right? They were allowed to put them in sponsor homes if they want to do that. So how do you know? Why are they being taken care of as anybody checking up on them? Foster home safe at the children being neglected is great foster parents out there wonderful. But shouldn't they be checked in on? This is making my head explode. Homeland security quote has struggled to provide accurate complete reliable data on family separations and reunifications raising concerns about the accuracy of its reporting. So says the homeland security inspector general the government accountability office issued a report with similar findings last week on Wednesday saying the administration did not know how many children had passed through it system and felt no obligation to find out. How does that happen? You take your kid away the kids, and you don't know where they are. And you don't care. I don't know. Administration officials told us this is quote, but they do not know how many such children separated from parents at the border were released to sponsors prior to the order, and that the court order does not require the department to know this information. Oh. This.
