sorry I'm both excited nervous to talk to you I've been listening to you for eighteen plus years of you're responsible for actually me keeping one of the best jobs I ever had back when I first started listening so really what was that job well it was a sales job the US and Canada for a company out of Italy and they said they set me up with phone fax and computer to do my work and I the last time I had been on the computer was in college where you used cards whole so I had never been on windows or United then road kill on the information highway well here you are and you had the job and here we are talking when I won yes well and I've got a question that again it's so you know as I've gotten older here and got a grand child it was asking for like a CD or music you know she wanted certain music okay and what type of munitions well she just turned seven now we started my web looking about it and it's like dash or CD players really used is that gonna go to where he trapped yeah it's hard to it's hard to find a CD players Medford we were gonna just cleaning out a closet in our house you know it's you know it's what you don't you don't talk about that could be that closet right yes okay everybody has that closet where it's like when you don't know where to put it it goes into that closet so we decided to clean it out over the holidays is like okay well we have some extra time was just fear of any we pulled out a dat tape recorder are very had an eight track report quarter in their tape that I don't and of course I called Ian I said a long time ago well you might want to look whatever this next one is it is at least tell January can type thing so we didn't have to worry about it for Christmas now but but in and of course she knows the songs and music you know I listen to something on the radio she's in a car seat in back in and I'll say who is that she can tell me this is seven I mean and you know and you know but because of the internet all this is right there front center because she's probably listening to music on YouTube or Spotify or Pandora or whatever may be a seat right see against you but I I know from my daughter who's now twenty seven when it came time that you know they want to listen to their music whether you're in the car and so forth they want list yeah to their music and my daughter and her friends would all grown when I would tell him that up Kim Klement and was on my computer goddess and he had nothing to do with grown but I I that was my time to they could go back to their music when your show was over thank you for that and I'm sure they they ended up being more upstanding adults better upstanding adults because of that but and I appreciate that because your great dad so here's the deal is that is that you know you can buy in the what's called now a digital release okay sometimes the the people still call it an album even though it's not vinyl I see you can buy these on various platforms but really the days of buying music are pretty much over because if your little granddaughter wants to listen to Selena Gomez is that what you can do is put together and you can help or do this a YouTube playlist and so we're she picks the songs that she wants in a play list and then those songs will play for her there's also Pandora where you could say I just want to listen to Selena Gomez twenty twenty and then those songs apply same thing with Spotify in if you have an Amazon prime account is.

"Dash special edition really right littman. I'm Hellawell jam session teatime crossover event in the spirit of great television. We Love Crossover Event Lover Knock Great Television. What's going for it yeah. It's really negative because it was a really bad show we'll bounce Dallas and positively the phoebe Waller Abridge high of one in this is not fair. Thanks Jeff. Why why am I not in high too. I UH-HUH OH yeah yeah. It was a great night for her. That's true but to me. It was a television show true. No not definitely not what I mean. I think you know you're right on that note kate. Why don't you kick things off on a high for us. We're GONNA talk with highs and lows. We'll go back and forth all right start positive. I was the red carpet action pretty good pretty fun lot of color you know from the men and the women we love a color jacket. I'm I'm trying to do my best like Juliana ransack because it working your calendar at all you know mercilessly Nicolas Coster Waldo. They just like did the goal they are in Green. Yeah he looked really good. He looks great seen him look bad but I drew this award show as he does in every single still of photography taking him ever Israel. Where's the talks really well of any family well. It's a gift Lotta Pink and red dresses which I liked all of them. I think we were talking about just looks like a huge. Valentine onstage dynasty chic which I was into like Mandy Moore could've just like stepped off like an eighty soap op right and that's what I want for my fashion. We also have to Raji. GP Henson Great Yeah. All three of them have either watch dialing Hollywood on Netflix but I've heard it's really good it is really good and like the the first three episodes center around Dang Raji Henson's emmys dress code and yes this last year okay because Jason Baldness her stylist stylist and they're really good friends to show and so I was just thinking styling Hollywood and season two can't wait to hear about distress. They held it shadow styling Hollywood. One of Netflix few wins tonight. flicks yeah slow for them kind of great. Let's commercials now. ozark night were their networks commercials which wines the breaking bad movie. Yes that's true the Camino last hour. There were a few three just kept seeing the new netflix seven million. Leeann streaming sites now and there were commercials for all of them and there's a lot of apple plus huge. I feel like it anyway back to fashion. I also might think probably my favorite was purchase. There's Clarkson. She did like blonde more tissue atoms which is real kate everything you want from purchase. Clarkson ever but yeah it was great never looked great. We all oh really Zendaya so late though like we didn't really see your until she walked out in glasses she present which was fabulous. She's got the marvel money and she's a cool kid. So Oh yes you need to get there early. That's true. Actually she doesn't have marvel money anymore. Right right YEP per spiderman series is dead. Maybe they only mice. I'd still like to you see how that's ultimately resolved but yeah we know about that stuff too. I WANNA share that Kid Harrington who I generally have no interest in as John Snow or in real life but I thought he looks phenomenal Q. Like the Best I've ever seen him. Maybe yes maybe the best never looked tie really channeling Richard Madden which was a great look for him also recommended not show which was Sassou. Ask You guys see what Richard Man did in debt yeah bill t rex out of Lego instagram could for him huge flex. You know I'd like to nominate Emilia Clarke while around the gas are- if Valentino I I'd love to know about. I assume it's tape. That's involved in this attraction but she's wearing confidence. She looks great. I was so ready to root against I'm sorry I did but she made it a little bit more difficult than I had plans. At least you followed through my Rudolph and Michelle Williams both in floral patterns both looking great really really enjoyed that more Michelle Williams in a few minutes. I liked Natasha. Leones look also should we talk about Natasha. Leone clapping. Yeah you're cool. Kidman Adman clapping apparently it is interesting way of clapping. It is like she just learnt how a small child when you teach them how to do applies their hands together but she was consistent in it. She applauded for a lot of people which we appreciate. I really liked it. She was wearing glasses during the show. I just love glasses formal. Look look at the Oscars Golden Globes and EMMYS. It's very common and I think it's a great I would do it. Billy Puerto Ricans and also the formal yes. It's a great addition. It's fake furnished. We're on the same the same people to do it because like young always does it. Oprah as a love the former bosses Amanda. I'm happy to tell you that the Tasha Leo Gift of her clapping readily available for whenever you need that's great people are ready. I think that makes sense. I'm just going to try to do it in my own life. One more nomination. Naomi watts she looks phenomenal and black just logged in just great the new game of thrones star new game. It's just getting ready. I I liked we'll talk a lot more reckoning with routes but I like to the end of the show how David any off who is my one true love can be like and now it's over we did it and now it is over totally disavowing try to shut out any notions of the prequels and spin offs that are that are coming alright great injection positively positively we'll ride this enthusiasm into talking about the most awkward moment of evening which was allow a complicated one which was when. Phoebe Waller Bridge won on Best Actress in a comedy beating out Julia Louis Dreyfuss in her final season as Lena Meyer from beep and bridges incredibly happy. Kate was incredibly happy. Many people on the Internet were incredibly happy. Let's get this out of the way. This is a pro fleabag podcast. You're lovely about free. It's one of the best things that that I've seen in any medium in two thousand and nineteen. Maybe in the decade yet great up there yeah fix perfect episodes a season two. Yes at flawless sure but Julia Louis Dreyfus purpose is probably the best television actress of in history. Yeah I think she's like Lucille Ball and Carol channing. Yes and she had one for veep. I believe every season she had been nominated and she was going to break the record for the most emmy wins by a woman of of all time and she she is there's also a breast cancer survivor yeah and that happened between these seasons so I think we all assumed that this would be her emmy and and it was not and that's the way the cookie crumbles moreover everyone in the room assuming yes so it was like the most tepid response. It's a win from a show that is universally praised yes. I'm sure that no one's like fleabag doesn't deserve it deserve. It really sucks sucks. That's how the point just was such an incredibly awkward moment. Totally I think okay like root for history. It's like when you walk or it's and you want to see a record broken or you. You want like someone's got hot. Hand you want to leave him in the game but as long as possible like it's okay to root for history it's okay to experience that moment and it was just really awkward. Yeah and it's also a fever waller. Bridge did not really read the room in that moment. I was wondering I guess veep is maybe not a big deal in the UK. They don't care about it. They're like we have in the loop. We don't actually need the American version of IANUCCI stuff but she was like thanking her agent and I just it wasn't the note that you wanted at that. Moment also weird for her to be profusely thanking or agent given the feud between writers and agents right now. Yes weird moment. It was not mentioned once during the entire telecast now's house per day and there was a lot of ignoring everything going on TV. No one was talking about streaming services. Everyone was just you know thinking whatever likes Amazon that that helped them. A lot of Amazon wants by the way but yeah it just it. It was uncomfortable. Even though it was happy yeah it's like not undeserved served right with the moment felt wrong and it. Kinda sucks then for our bread shoes. True talent is actually Frank Kayla. I will say like she seems super for actress to me in that moment in a way. I don't like to acknowledge and I just like Oh. This is a real actress but she also had just been up there like I think it would have been different if she hadn't won anything yet yet right right right so she had just been up there. She's up there again. It's like Oh you again like everyone loves her but like it is. It would have been different than if it had just been the first win for few celebrity yeah so it's tough. It's a no win a little bit she continued to she did continue to win now. She did and it was awesome. That fleabag won best comedy. US totally detailing curling. Everyone say their favorite episode man you go first the last one I mean come on the answer here. I soon as you said that to me. I I also kind of don't think of them as discreet right so it's entirely it was just one you could put those together and it would be like one very long movie and it would be kind of perfect shorter then some worth celebrating movies kate the first episode the pilot was the second season yeah great one of the Jumpsuit Yeah Mine's the number three's Kristin Scott Thomas See Russia Kristin Scott Thurow's Jonzon hot priest socially tough but you got yeah Kristin Scott Thomas. Oh yeah that's a trade. That's funeral so many other version of one yeah one we don't talk about the new one in the really funny thing about season into fleabag is just like everyone acknowledges now including TV while our bridge how essential Andrew Scott as you play the AK Moriarty too many of us who watched Sir Lock. Yeah weird very greatest in yeah. It was really cool and she when she turned to him accepting best comedy. It was like we did this because Andrew. You're Scott came in and that was cool. It was great and also you finally got to be on stage which was good so a motive. Actually I just want to say I love back. I don't need any more Brett Gelman twenty twenty between fleabag and stranger things. Yeah Ozone Lot shred amount of everything done. We're done offense. I guess it's it's really inherently offensive thing okay moving on so that was like a low and then and then I within a low below the recovered itself yeah. Just I mean it is remarkable. It's saying that is a special as fleabag actually won the emmys. We don't see actually the best. Things don't usually win awards. That's literally every awards show and fleabag winning and phoebe Waller winning for writing. It's just like wow we did it. That's great yeah so that was good good job on this one thing good Johnson. Okay Okay Hi Michelle Williams speech amazing stuff amazing stuff. This is also what happens when you practice and you prepare and she had clearly given some thought to what she wanted to say and not. Maybe she wrote it. I'm not really sure because it was definitely well-crafted and she hit her points but it was more that she had an idea and she wanted to turn this into It's a speech about equal pay which is like something. She's been crosshairs about a lot. If you remember when they did the re-shoots for I guess it was called all the money in the world it was the Getty Nassar Getty show out of it so Kevin Spacey's the Laura for Christopher plummer and they did the re shoots her fi versus Mark Wahlberg fee. Yes she took like a daily fee and Mark Wahlberg at one point five million dollars and then it became a thanks so she I used that in order to talk about a Fosse verdant. FX And the support and what happens when you actually do support of working specifically women have car work. She just like she had the stats. That's she nailed it.

"Scandal today because there aren't that many legends left and we just lost a legend yesterday. Yes, we did. And they're giving the lights on Broadway tonight. I thought it would be good to just kind of revisit some of the Channing moments Haning moments. Yes. Some of them were scandal, scandalous, some of them just showed how much of a Hollywood the show must go on. So I'll start with this November two thousand and one the night before Carol Channing is supposed to perform alongside Angela lansbury in a special auntie mame. Hello, Dolly, mash, up conceived. Right. Jerry herman. I would've loved this evening dedicated to his music and Jerry Herman, you know, he he couldn't even comment yesterday. And Carol Channing is passing away. He was devastated, but the night before Caroline Angela. We're gonna just do this one night on Broadway of antim-. Hello dolly. Carol Channing fell down a flight of stairs. She dead. And lansbury, of course, would sing auntie mame Carol Channing Dali Levi, and they were gonna with the two icon swapping between the roles and each of them serenaded by their own many male chorus as the skit went on it was sold out. Oh my gosh. Stories from her longtime friend and publicists be Harlan bowl and Carol overheard. The call phone calls between doctors and her management saying she's not going to be hearing. And she wasn't having any of it. She'd had stitches to her temple a broken arm and a fractured. She went on the next night. Harry Winston covered her arm cast diamonds. I had to have its own security because of all the diamonds, and she just said, I can't imagine anyone saying Carol couldn't make it and that wasn't going to happen. And apparently she and Angela lansbury had a whale of a time their voices, very different purchase contrasting quickly. And. She of course was best known for. Hello dolly. And then also gentlemen prefer blondes, and she's ninety seven and her son Channing Carson better known as Pulitzer nominated political cartoonist Chan low. Oh, yeah. That's her signs and a close family member Sylvie along those are the two people who survive her and he her publicist Channing bowl. Excuse me. Bohl said, I know for over twenty years and nothing would sapper. She was the embodiment of the show must go on. And. Carol with such a major part of Jerry Herman's life that he needs time to grieve privately. He can't even make a statement is what his rep told the Hollywood reporter and the Daily Beast yesterday, and she moved to Rancho Mirage twenty years ago to be near her cousin the Sylvia lawn. Yes. Okay. And she died of natural causes her last personal appearance where people thought her in public was in nineteen excuse me in twenty fifteen for her birthday party in Palm Springs. They had like a birthday it was at the McCallum theatre in palm desert under ninety fifth birthday that was her last public appearance. But some other kinds of things that we're finding out about. Like when Barbra Streisand was given the nineteen sixty-nine movie role, Gene Kelly. Hello, Dolly devastated. She said it was suicidal for me. She told the Miami Herald, it's like somebody taking your baby. I was there. A was created. I've never really dwelled on it. It's painful to me yesterday. Barbara Streisand did tweet about Carol Channing saying she was a true life force a kind and effort vestment woman who never allowed the prayed pass her. Oh, that's right. Yeah. And but Channing only saw Pearl Bailey perform, Hello Dolly. She never saw Ginger Rogers eve Arden Phyllis Diller because she was always on tour, and she wasn't opposed to any of them in any way, she loved him off. But that was the only Hello Dolly production shivers. Saw. Carol Channing didn't feel wronged about Marilyn Monroe. Getting the gentlemen, prefer blondes because she remembered Marilyn Monroe coming to see Carol Channing perform the role for weeks at the theater and at the end of three weeks. Maryland would go to Carol Channing stressor room and say, I just want you to know that every morning I wake up and think I'm going to see that wonderful show again, I never got bored with it Carol and miss Channing always said that was an awfully sweet thing that is very sad. It helped a little bit with the sting. But boy, I was ready to jump out the window when she first heard the news that Maryland would be cast in the movie, but it was so distracting for the orchestra to have Marilyn Monroe at the show for three weeks in a row players would miss beats a note. Cheryl told the story about the pianist who is more interested. If Maryland had a brother. And I guess a later generation of kids know, Carol Channing from the white cream Queen and a trippy nineteen eighty mini series of Allison wonderland. Don't recall that locate in nineteen seventy as you said yesterday, she was the first person to perform sold elaborate headed to perform solo at the Super Bowl halftime show and retirement was not for her even in the early two thousand she toured her one woman show, the first eight years of the hardest feel like that's when we had her on like was maybe for that. And she told the view in two thousand and ten that she was absolutely unfazed by the idea of Johnny Depp plane her as he said he would like to do on screen. He expressed that he wants to play for your Carol Channing onscreen. I feel like he did sort of when he played the, gene. Wilder character in a Bloomberg. Or maybe when he was in Allison wonderland. And she I guess here's when she was on one of her first appearances on what's my line? And the panel tries to guess who you are an old TV show for people who don't want shoes. And she was dressed in an enormous for helmet hat and she did a Russian accent. And the panel asked her does she sing? And she said, yes, beautifully and. Anyway, she in her two thousand and two outer biography just lucky I guess she revealed that when she was sixteen her mother told her that her father. Had a German that she was half black. Yeah. You heard that her? Yes. Yes. And that her mom wanted her to wanted to her to know that in case she ever got married and had a baby and the baby might have looked black. Her dad, and I guess her dad was though was so late when he moved from Georgia to Connecticut, whatever it was way back way. He just passed for white. Yeah. So that was one of the things, you know, in her book that nobody knew and she didn't know until she. Her mom told her she was married. Four times most infamously to her former manager and publicist Charles low and most poetically to her childhood sweetheart, Harry who died in two thousand eleven and she and Charles low were married for forty two years. They split in nineteen ninety eight with low dying before the divorce was finalized. And she claimed that she caught him in a homosexual affair he'd been having it for a long time. And that he told her the day after their wedding. He was impotent and they'd only had sex twice in forty two years that would have been a clue to me. Wow. But don't they have a child together? She a child with the guy before that. Yeah. You're kidding me. Oh, Channing her son her his father was her second husband football player by the name of Alex Carson. Okay. But this. Charles Lowe, said, you know, she's spread false stories about me, and they went back and forth and back and forth. But that's how she got her divorce in California was she didn't have you know, she was refused intimate relationship. Forty two years forty two years, and he took Oliver money. I mean, he met mismanaged her money away was one of the things that I read about that too. And one of the other things that she had a regret about was that Carol Channing said she and Ethel Merman, and Mary Martin would discuss who among them had been the worst mother and Carol would say well, Chan her son got to go to the White House, which many little boys didn't get to do with. They all three of them felt that they traveled so much. Sure. Yeah. That busy busy busy, and it was towards as she got older they became closer in her. Bedroom was always filled with his political cartoons. And our son's. Yeah. Her son and when bowl asked Carol Channing would show her role. She was most proud of. She would always say the next one. Well, that's a great line showbiz. That's a great line. And at the time of the controversy over marriage equality. Carol Channing would Seder publicists friend. Why would you want the government involved in your private life? People wanna to get married. They should just get married. So and she was immensely proud that when you're at a San Francisco pride event where they crowned a ceremonial impress. She'd been crowned the Queen and she also gone to Carol Channing look alike contest with drag queens, and she said, you know, Harlan I took third. Dolly parton. He took the impersonations is a great honor because sheer self infamously impersonated to Lula Bankhead Marlene Dietrich one of them soccer do at once and walked out of the theater, who do you think it was moorland Dietrich thing? That's who. I would think we don't know. She said she never understood it until one time when she went to see someone impersonating her. She said, oh now, I get it. And she never wanted to see anyone impersonator after that. Oh, all right. And then her sense of humor one time in Vegas guy came up to her and said fella. You look great. I've never seen a better Carol Channing. She said, thank you. I'm a truck driver from Toledo, and I'm just here on the weekend. Brilliant. I know and she did return to Broadway in two thousand and Ted for the look at the old girl now fellas where she performed one night at the new Amsterdam theatre with many of the Dalai boys from all these actions. The gypsy award. It was that night. They fight the Broadway cares. Yes. He did that two thousand and ten in tombstone Carol Channing wants to phrase she raised their lives. Is she always felt like she cheered up people and the first performance. Here's a little known fact the first performance of Hello. Dolly was on January sixteenth nineteen sixty four two months after JFK had been assassinated, Jackie Kennedy broader children to a performance in their first public appearance since his funeral. It came at a perfect time the country need an escape a laugh. Carol felt that everyone everywhere should do hall. Dolly for her was the musical hamlet. And that's tomorrow. It would be tomorrow's January sixteenth. So it'd be fifty four years ago. Yeah. Mytalk one zero seven one everything. Entertainment. We just celebrated our ten year anniversary on Jason and Alexis show and on Wednesday. We're celebrating another exciting. Mytalk anniversary. It's been exactly one year since Donna mills gates where boy detective Jason Mathison crack the case of the Donna mills impersonator who duped, Laurie and Julia at the polo lounge in Beverly Hills, it.

"Seven one, everything entertainment. And then there was a scandal. Scout. Shocking. Well, I got with this vintage scandal today because there aren't that many legends left and we just lost a legend yesterday. Yes, we did. And they're giving the lakes and Broadway tonight. I thought it would be good to just kind of revisit some of the Channing moments Channing moments. Yes. Some of them were scandal is some of them just showed how much of a Hollywood the show must go on. So I'll start with this November two thousand one the night before Carol Channing is supposed to perform alongside Angela lansbury in a special auntie mame. Hello, Dolly, mashups conceived. Right. Jerry herman. I would've loved evening dedicated to his music and Jerry Herman, you know, he he couldn't even comment yesterday and Carol Channing passing away. He was devastated, but the night before Caroline Angela. We're gonna just do this one night on Broadway of mame. Hello dolly. Carol Channing fell down a flight of stairs should dead. And lansbury, of course, would sing auntie mame Carol Channing Dolly Levi, and they were gonna with the two icons swapping between the roles and each of them serenaded by their own many male chorus as the skit went. It was sold out. Oh my gosh. Stories from her longtime friend in publicists be Harlan bowl and Carol overheard. The call phone calls between doctors and her management saying she's not going to be hearing. And she was in having any of it. She'd had stitches through temple a broken arm and a fractured thumb. She went on the next night. Harry Winston covered her arm cast in diamonds. Asked had to have its own security because of all the diamonds, and she just said, I can't imagine anyone saying Carol couldn't make it and that wasn't going to happen. And apparently she and Angela lansbury had wail of time their voices very different purchase contrasting quickly. And. She of course was best known for. Hello dolly. And then also gentlemen prefer blondes, and she was ninety seven and her son Channing Carson better known as Pulitzer nominated political cartoonist Chan low. Oh, yeah. That's her science and a close family member Sylvie along those are the two people who survive her, and he her publicist Channing ball, excuse me. Bohl said I knew her for over twenty years and nothing would stop her. She was the embodiment of the show must go on. And. Carol was such a major part of Jerry Herman's life that. He needs time to grieve privately. He can't even make a statement as what his rep told the Hollywood reporter and the Daily Beast yesterday, and she moved to Rancho Mirage twenty years ago to be near her cousin the Soviet lawn. Yes. Okay. And she died of natural causes her last personal appearance where people are her in public was in nineteen excuse me in twenty fifteen for her birthday party in Palm Springs. They had like a birthday. Was that the McCallum theatre in palm desert under ninety fifth birthday that was her last public appearance? But some other kind of things that we're finding out about. Like when Barbara trae someone's given the nineteen sixty-nine movie role, Gene Kelly. Hello, Dolly, she's devastated. She said it was suicidal for me. She told the Miami Herald, it's like somebody taking your baby. I was there a news created I've never really dwelled on it. It's painful to me yesterday. Barbara racing did tweet about Carol Channing saying she was a true life force, a kind and effervescent woman who never allowed the prayed to pass her. Oh, that's great. Yeah. And but Channing only saw Pearl Bailey perform, Hello Dolly. She never saw Ginger Rogers Yverdon Phyllis Diller because she was always on tour, and she wasn't opposed to any of them in any way. She loved him up with that was the only Hello Dolly production. She ever saw. Carol Channing didn't feel wronged about Marilyn Monroe. Getting the gentlemen, prefer blondes because she remembered Marilyn Monroe coming to see Carol Channing perform the role for weeks at the theater and at the end of three weeks. Maryland would go to Carol Channing stressor room and say, I just want you to know that every morning I wake up and think I'm going to see that wonderful show again, I never got bored with it Carol and miss Channing always thought that was an awfully sweet thing that is very sad. It helped a little bit with the sting. But boy, I was ready to jump out the window when she first heard the news that Maryland would be cast in the movie, but it was so distracting for the orchestra to have Marilyn Monroe at the show for three weeks in a row players would miss beats a note. Carol told the story about the pianist who is more interested. If Maryland had a brother. And I guess a later generation of kids know, Carol Channing from the white cream Queen and a trippy nineteen eighty mini series of Allison wonderland. Don't recall that in the nineteen seventy as you said yesterday was the first person to perform solo. Yeah. To perform solo at the Super Bowl halftime show and retirement was not for her even in the early two thousand she toured or one woman show the first eight years of the hardest. I feel like that's when we had her on like was being for that. And she told the view in two thousand and ten that she was absolutely unfazed by the idea of Johnny Depp plane her as he said he would like to do on screen. He expressed that he wants to play for your Carol Channing onscreen. I feel like he did sort of when he played the gene wilder character in Bloomberg. Or maybe when he was in Ellison wonderland and. She hears when she was on one of her first appearances on what's my line? And the panel tries to guess who you are an old TV show for people who don't know what she was dressed in an enormous helmet hat and she did a Russian accent. And the panel asked her does she sang and she said, yes, beautifully and. Anyway, she in her two thousand and two out of biography. Just lucky I guess she revealed that when she was sixteen her mother told her that our father. Had a German that she was half black. Yeah. You heard that say her? Yes. Yes. And her mom wanted her to wanted to her to know that in case she ever got married and had a baby and the baby might have looked black. Her dad, and I guess her dad was though was so late when he moved from Georgia to Connecticut, whatever it was way back way. He just passed for white. Yeah. So that was one of the things, you know, in her book that nobody knew and share. She didn't know until she her mom told her she was married. Four times most infamously to her former manager and publicist says Charles low and most poetically to her childhood sweetheart, Harry who died in twenty eleven and she and Charles low were married for forty two years. They split in nineteen ninety eight with low dying before the divorce was finalized. And she claimed that she caught him in a homosexual affair he'd been having it for a long time. And that he told her the day after their wedding. He was impotent and they'd only had sex twice in forty two years that would've been a clue to me. Wow. But don't they have a child together achieve child with the guy before that? Yeah. You're kidding me. Channing her son her. His father was her. Second husband football player by the name of Alex Carson. Okay. But this Charles lo said, you know, she spread false stories about me, and they went back and forth and back and forth. But that's how she got her divorce in California was she didn't have you know, she was refused intimate relationship. Forty two years forty two years, and he took Oliver money. I mean, he met mismanaged her money away was one of the things. Yeah. You know that I read about that too. And one of the other things that she had a regret about was that Carol Channing always said, she and Ethel Merman, and Mary Martin would discuss who among them had been the worst mother. And Carol would say well Chan her son got to go to the White House, which many little boys didn't get to do with. They all three of them felt that they traveled so much. Yeah. That busy busy busy, and it was towards as she got older they became closer in her. Bedroom was always filled with his political cartoons and our son's. Yeah. Her son and when bowl asked Carol Channing, what show her role. She was most proud of. She would always say the next one. Well, that's great. Line showbiz. That's a great line. And at the time of the controversy over marriage equality, Carol Channing when Seder publicist friend. Why would you want the government involved in your private life? People wanna get married. They should just get married. So and she was immensely proud that when you're at a San Francisco pride event where they crowned a ceremonial empress. She'd been crowned the Queen and she also got into Carol Channing look alike contest with drag queens, and she said, you know, Harland took third Dolly Parton. He took the impersonations is a great honor. Because she herself in famously impersonated to Lula Bankhead Marlene Dietrich one of them saw her do it once and walked out of the theater, who do you think it was Marlene Dietrich thing? That's who. I would think we don't know. She said she never understood it until one time when she went to see someone impersonating her. And she said, oh now, I get it. And she never wanted to see anyone in. Later after that. All right. And then her sense of humor one time in Vegas guy came up to her and said fella. You look great. I've never seen a better Carol Channing. She said, thank you. I'm a truck driver from Toledo, and I'm just here on the weekend..

"Stop and think about. Famous. People you've admire. Over the years. And whether or not you knew their politics. Carol Channing just died at ninety seven. I don't know where politics were George Burns, gene. Autry. Roy rogers. Did you did we have to know everything about? A person's politics. Occasionally just to test my audience. I will post that. I think this or that musician is genius. And it's a musician who was an Obama supporter who is a left wing nut and people will say no good at how Di no good at all. Of course, the person can't name one song by that person. Not one. They can't tell you one song in that person's written or performed. They can't tell you one of their top ten greatest hits. None of it. So what you're saying to me is. You don't like that person's politics, which is fine. But now, we're we're confusing artistic merit. With political. Collegiality? If you vote the way I vote I liked the songs you sing. If you vote the way I vote I like the way you acted in that movie eighteen years ago. But if you like a candidate, I don't like. Or if you're in favor of a political issue that I don't like. Then. You're.

"Shows in my life. But she took me to. Hello dolly. That's what Carol Channing started in the sixties. And I was you know, who knows I was like six maybe five or six or something. And she wanted to take me to Broadway says I just remember seeing this woman with the platinum blond hair. And she was just like now. It was like that. And then Louis Armstrong did a version of it. That's that's what made her famous. So, of course, all the New York papers today where there were like goodbye, Dolly, or by Dolly, or whatever it is. But but I remember being there and just knowing that this woman's weird. Voices. Her faces an odd looking, you know, woman big mouth big red lips. And I remember almost being disturbed what he almost looked a little clown like which kinda got to me. Well, I mean they're wearing like powder makeup. They got the red lips ductless split us. But it was her just her her voice had it out it. It kylie. A freaked me out a little bit. Six. Wow. This using now comes this woman with the white hair. The platinum blonde hair the big red lipstick was missing was like big giant shoes. And a squirting flower. I would've only top hat, but but yeah, I I remember seeing on Broadway, but Carol Channing, and and I thought she was dead. I thought she was twenty years or ten years, and I guess I was wrong. But that's a long life ninety seven. Speaking of Broadway and stuff. I don't know. How I feel about this. You tell me what you think. Okay. So bohemian rhapsody big. Yes. The moving very successful Rami Malik. I still haven't seen it. You know? You gotta go. See I still in the theaters because it was been nominated by you really need to see you. All right. It's really good. I do you know anything about Queen? Have you listening to music green? I love Queen accident. They used to be a big fan of theirs in high school. And I mean, I still listen to music that goes, all right? So you gotta you gotta go see you'll really enjoy it. I so what they're doing. Now is that they're they're releasing a sing along version of the movie, this is basically like in seven hundred and fifty theaters across the country. The song lyrics will be displayed on the screen karaoke style. With the audience allow being allowed to perform the songs, I have a real problem with this. Because if I'm gonna you know what I mean, like if let's say I walk into bohemian rhapsody. I don't know that this isn't a sing along Rosia. I hope that they would make the distinction at the ticket booth. I would hope you're probably not probably gonna walk in. And then the last thing I'm gonna want to do is sit next to some drunk dude is like..

"I just heard a thousand radios Clinton off at the same time. Did you hear that? Only because I don't have a switch. Thank you for playing with me. But let me just do that. So Carol Channing Stephen I were saying this earlier when when we were growing up there was this level of show business that just kind of was. Yup. And if you were a kid, I knew for adults, they would know a little bit about Carol Channing. But for kid, you would you knew Carol Channing was you weren't quite sure why it was for her Broadway performance, of course in. Hello dolly. But then she was on all the game shows are always on game shows and talk shows constantly there. There was never a night where you couldn't flip around and find Carol Channing, George Gubler, John Davidson, they were just always always always always on TV. But see I think those people exist now to for people much younger than those. It's hard fresh identity them because we know who they are social media form the Kardashians, or no, I'm not even talking about that. Miriam Tomo people who had an earlier career like Carol Channing had. Lingers, and then just stayed on. And so we came of age she was a celebrity. We didn't know where is a Broadway actress. So when we see the current generation on TV, we know them as the actor actress, so it's hard to identify you. Right. Was Carol on love boat. Yeah. A little while ago actually on the shelves. I remember she's kind of like a roof fuzzy just showed up. An older clip though. Right. Mary nothing. Recent. But look at somebody like jasmin, our producer jasmine in her late twenties and jazz. What did you know about killed Channing prior to this morning? Nothing zero really is that something at least. You sounds curious now. Tinge of curious nothing. We have heard a thank for the Super Bowl halftime show. How so when the first three Super Bowls were held in the nineteen sixties, the only halftime performers were college marching bands. Oh that changed when Carol Channing came out to sing all when the saints go. My man. Was in the middle of a nineteen seventy Super Bowl. It was Super Bowl. I before where the saints in that Super Bowl. No, no, this is this patriotic oh Channing has stated that her performance was requested just about a week before the Super Bowl, which meant. There was no time for a pre show run through. Fortunately, despite the lack of rehearsal time. She didn't experience any wardrobe malfunctions or anything she was invited back for a Super Bowl six nineteen seventy-two making her the first Super Bowl repeat performer as well. Wouldn't that have been an odd choice? I know maroon five is locked in for this year. But what if the NFL announced, I know, this is gonna shock a lot of people, but we're bringing in Carol Channing, wouldn't that have shaken things up a little bit people would have watched. They would either you know, was shock or with gladness. I don't know where you can still do it and people will watch without a doubt. So back then now I remember early Super Bowls. It always seemed to be up with people didn't it and marching band marching bands. Right. You'd bring in the marching band from Chico state. And that got lukewarm reviews. Everyone's like, they were good cookman. No, no, no. We're not welcomed. No, though. No as everywhere, man. He was everywhere. Household name forever. And I think the biggest revelation about Carol Channing in recent times we found out that she was of mixed race. Yeah. Which I didn't know I found some information on that talk about she mentioned it. There was a book that she wrote about her life, and she very very briefly alluded to it from biography dot com in her memoir. Just lucky I guess what you're talking about one in two thousand and two she revealed that in nineteen thirty seven when she was a sixteen year old about to head off to Bennington college. Her mother told her that her father's birth certificate has had marked him as and I quote colored as his mother had been black. It was an unexpected revelation for Carol Channing, she didn't make the information public for decades a decision that allowed her to avoid the discriminatory treatment against African American interesting. It is interesting. Big gay rights proponent, which is interesting. At a time. When most people shied away from it. She wasn't afraid to to be a proponent of that yet an enemy of Richard Nixon's. Isn't that a crazy move? President Richard Nixon was a man with a long memory, and especially when he felt slighted after landing in the White House's administration put together an enemies list of people who oppose Nixon or his policies this list. Of course, included journalist, labor leaders antiwar activists and civil rights activists, but it also mentioned performers such as Paul Newman Barbra, Streisand and Carol Channing. Wow. Wow. All right. The late Carol Channing, very, very sad news. We find out this morning that we lost her at ninety seven. I believe is that right? Yes. Ninety seven years old. She lived a good life is jasmine said, but that's easy for jasmine to say, she didn't know she was true. Very very true. I agree with you though ninety seven. Eighty seven. And again, the first time you saw her Bill. Yes. She thought she would have been seventy seven. She seemed a little older back. Yes. She sure did. All right. We're gonna take a quick break when we return Ryan burrow will join us to talk about the Jamie clause case, very, very strange news coming out of Wisconsin. The new year means new resolutions for everybody..
