You have to <Speech_Male> see that. You have to experience <Speech_Male> that. I <Speech_Male> want you to have your own <Speech_Male> experiences. <Speech_Male> I can't tell you <Speech_Male> how to do something I <Speech_Male> can't <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> walk you through it. <Speech_Male> You have to, you <Speech_Male> have to experience your own <Speech_Male> experience. Everybody experiences <Speech_Male> is totally <Speech_Male> different. But <Speech_Male> what I <SpeakerChange> will say, <Speech_Male> the <Speech_Male> purpose of <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> this <Speech_Male> memoir of this book <Speech_Male> is <Speech_Male> to shine light <Speech_Male> on a lot of those <Speech_Music_Male> times and a lot of <Speech_Male> those situations, whether <Speech_Male> it was good times and <Speech_Male> bad times, but <Speech_Male> also show you <Speech_Male> how <Speech_Male> I was able to navigate <Speech_Male> that. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> You know, times were hard. <Speech_Male> What did I do <Speech_Male> that <Speech_Male> I folded that <Speech_Male> I stand told. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> You know, the fact that I <Speech_Male> didn't have <Speech_Male> no dream or goals <Speech_Male> and things like that, <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> because of the lack <Speech_Male> of hope and those <Speech_Male> environments. "Master log base more for his foul on John Moran. Yes, that would have been my runner up, but I feel good after a Lakers win. I think we're gonna give the Lakers a break. We've master lock a Laker, a Laker quite a bit, so let's just go with the referees for the moment. Somebody said, make a poll for us. Yeah, when I've got a guest on it'll be a little bit easier for me to make polls and things like that. Do that sort of stuff. Master log Trevor's graphic, yes, yes. But I should have checked to make sure that the graphic was still on the right spot. I was working on some things that I must have just moved it to a different folder. And so that's why it wasn't there. Master a lot Chris Paul. He wasn't even in this game and still master lock Chris Paul. I could probably get on board with that. I could probably get on board. All right, we're gonna do a couple more, and then we'll call it a night. Again, I'm happy to say that the Lakers got the win. And I'm curious to see what this means moving forward because I felt like there was some frustration around the team. I felt like there was some pressure on them to finally get a win. Fans were frustrated players were frustrated. Does this free them a little bit? Right now they've kind of got that they're over the hump now. They've got that win. What do they look like next game? Are they able to take this and build off of it? I think that's going to be something really important to watch moving forward. They play Tuesday against San Antonio. They'll be on the road. What do you do from here? And I'm curious to see, do we see a team that plays with, I don't know a bit more a bit less of a burden on them. Play with a little bit more joy. I think we haven't seen enough fun from this Lakers team in basketball can be a lot of fun. And we haven't really seen this team have fun yet. So does winning this game create fun for the Lakers? Does it allow them to play a bit more freely? That's what I'm going.

"Why is LeBron hitting or shooting 73s? Because he's been hitting them. Because he's been hitting them. I mean, tonight, for 9, and he's been knocking those in. So he's been shooting them. And if you look at LeBron, he's a very cerebral player, right? So you look at the last three games so far in the regular season. He's shooting 50% from three on the season right now. Four four 9 tonight, 5 four 9 last game. First game of the season 5 for 11. So LeBron James is a very cerebral player. You look at the starting 5, they've been putting out there and we'll talk about that in a bit. But Deandre Jordan, Anthony Davis, Kent bazemore Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, who's the best shooter out of that group. LeBron. So if he's not shooting those threes, who is, and if he's not shooting those threes, what defense is going to bother defending on the perimeter? Now the grizzlies still packed the paint because that's what you do against the Lakers. You pack the paint and you make them beat you from outside. But I think LeBron is recognizing that, hey, I've got to take these shots because defenses aren't going to be worried about getting out to AD right now until he shows that he can consistently knock those down. They're not going to be worried getting out to say Kent bazemore as much unless it's a corner three. Maybe they will or if he continues to shoot like we saw in some of these games where he shoots a decent percentage. There's certainly not getting out to Russell Westbrook. I think LeBron recognizes that in the starting unit and most of the time on the floor, he's one of if not the best shooter. So he's got to take those shots. And I think that's a factor here and why we're seeing him take more of them. And again, right now, shooting threes at a 50% clip, that's a winning proposition. Keep taking them. As long as you're shooting that well, keep taking them because that's great teams would kill to have somebody shoot that well again. That's not sustainable, but he's shooting that shot very well right now. So I think that you've got a couple of things. He's making them. And I think he also recognizes that the team needs him taking and making.

"Nba player carmelo anthony. We recently sat down to talk about his new memoir. Were tomorrow's aren't promised. In the book he describes the support he received from many people like neighbors coaches and friends but none more so than his mother. I asked him how she shaped his life. My mom was a strong strong. Strong black women may see was. My mom would have a household of eight nine people. I'm like cousins in her sisters and brothers. In you know my sisters and brothers in friends would just be in the house all day long. Everybody was fed. Everybody was dressed. She had two jobs like it. Was you know this is what she did. And i never never understood it. I would just expecting it. Because that's what i was used to. I'm using my mother working two jobs and you start getting up in the morning. She go to work go to school. I come back from school. She going to other job so that was kind of a relationship like we never. I never really sat and talked to my mother about anything. I just felt like i had it all worked out an all handle but my mother was a rockstar. She was the spine to any in every problem. Any issues. With the family she was at the forefront any issues outside that forefront and believe it or not by. My mom was like the neighborhood. Mom to everybody know everybody would talk about ms. Mary and i never understood it. That's my mother but everybody else's like man. That's that's miss mary mary. That's my mom but sedan like your absence. Mary she will have a good have a good meal. The dog will always be open. Took place to stay put at night. You come in you know you can find space on the floor somewhere you good so she you know we always had open door policy and you know she was just a offers a great person there. We don't really go into your nba. Career in the memoir. Your book in fact it ends with this moment.

"That's a prime example right there. I've i've always felt like i had to like do extra do more. Then than the next person right always felt like. I had to not be loud but i had to show people a lot more of what i can do My talents in my skill. And you know just being me. And now i was battling that for a long time because i didn't know who i was as a person and when you dealing with those type of issues and all those that mentality it could mess you up and i always. I'm in a competitive sport. Anyway as it is. So i don't want to be competitive in every aspect of my life. I want to come home. I want to relax. I wanted to turn tv on listening to music. Drink some wine. And i don't want to be competitive all day every day. And that's what it does to you many it just make you competitive because when you feel like you're back is against the wall and people always down you and you know you're not going to do this. Oh he's back like you said he's back. He's not backing he needed to go. He need to come back. what is he doing. It's like where's waldo. And that's not something i i don't want to live my life like that you'll find in your piece. I was finding my peace. And where i'm at now. I think i found some of my piece. I'm still on that journey fun. And you know being being peaceful just in in life. But that takes time. And i i want people to understand that when they reading this story like to find your piece that it takes a long time some thirty years old right and i just started over the past couple of years so look and search for that piece thirty seven years old and you starting another journey right. Maybe one of the most anticipated part of your career. Which is crazy at thirty seven because you were joining. The lakers joining the lakers and again people writing everything off lebron is talked about the re has fun with twitter. And everything where people are like. Oh it's the retirement home of basketball pre players. Dwight you've got you've got the bra. Your rajon rondo you. This is this is retiring. This is a retirement home and brunson. We'll show you. What old men do you see. It feels like you've been in this position before but it feels like it's a completely different story every single time. Why did you say yes. Why do you think that this would be different. And what are you hoping to achieve is something you trying to prove or are you just in different state of mind going into this next season as nothing that i'm trying to prove if i wanted to pick la out have been at peace walking away from the game knowing that. I gave it everything. I could and i still couldn't win a championship out. Have been peace out. Have been good but now i'm in the lakers. I can't be at peace. So if you've got to change a gotta change your way of thinking you've got to change your perspective but being out there at this point in time in my career we hear all we hear all of it. We hear that they old senior citizen home as well but we just know what we bring to the game and we what we bring to the table. And i say we're wiser like we're wise. We're not we're not all thirty. Seven is young. Thirty six is young outfielder. There's only old into in the sports so like the bras like other guys said man. It's just just watching seat. And i think people will enjoy the. I know i'll be one of the people watching congratulations on your book. Congratulations on the story. I hope everybody reads it because as you said you know it'll connect with not just your journey how hard that journey actually is and how many people can relate to the story that gets you to where you absolutely is universal universal message. I'd say that. I appreciate your thank you so much for joining me on the show. Don't forget people come book where tomorrow's onto promised is available right now. We're gonna take a quick break. We'll be right back after this the daily trevor. No ears edition is brought to you by the twenty twenty. One ford bronco sport. Have you ever been on an off road adventure. I'm not talking about a little bit of gravel on the side of the freeway. I'm talking about dirt roads. Maybe being climbing a few rocks if this is the type of adventure you're.

"Special box world coming up carmelo. Anthony says loyalty and sports is extremely overrated. We'll tell you we agree. These sports say that's next on weekly yourself. Loyalty hebrews foresight carmelo. Anthony may hen is for joining the lakers promote new book and when the subject loyalty loyalty in sports came up bello safe quote not loyalty. Loyalty and sports is extremely overrated. Fellow added quote. Sports is just wars a business. There's no loyalty sports. You're an athlete. That's your profession. You pay to do that. No one has to be loyal to you. Anthony wright and sambu extremely overweight man. He is and mellow hit. This one dead on sell man. The dilemma is this that there is a triangular relationship trying. Let's see this player. Fan owner isosceles equilateral. Or we do not equilateral damn sauce. Lease 'cause definitely triangular relationship between players fans and owners and the problem is lee fans typically think that players work for them when an honesty players worked for the ownership management so when a player leaves team fans taken so personally. Because i was loyal to you when the kicker is fan. It's not that you weren't loyal to me. If the ownership the team the management that wasn't loyal to me. I'm not trying to leave you. You were loyal in your phantom but the ownership and management was not loyal in their love to me. And i think that is the dilemma that athletes run into. And that is why loyalty is overrated. Because bands feel players leaving gives betrayal when they're not betraying you if anything. They are betraying the team. But the team never actually loved player so with not betrayal. At all it's completely overrated because eight point be loyal to somebody who ain't lawyer you and teams are not loyal to their athletes. And it's just because it's a business what it comes down to is not like a businesses is strictly financial. Not as though it was anything personal. And that is why loyalties overrate. Wow i which you triangular I got a triangular way of looking at this because carmelo anthony is dead on with this one but it goes both ways. It goes all ways think loyalty is fake in the first place. I'm gonna give you why. I think because of my introduction to the loyalty and his definition but let's use the triangle love respect. Those are not things that you're told to have someone you'd have it for. My family is about love and respecting them. It's not about loyalty because loyalty. Is this fake layer. Loyalty is to force layer and you start to force love and you start to force. 'em fake respect. Let me give it to you like this. I i heard about loyalties people in my neighborhood in the gangsters. You gotta be down. You gotta be loyal. You got loyalty. What does this loyalty. I don't really innately like you. Love you respect you but since we gonna do something together fraternities. I said oh now going to be loyal to each other. You know what's crazy saw that so many times dissolve because it's not innately about the love and respect. Now let me marry that to sports with carmelo's talking about what happens when you see things that are but the commodities are humans. You get caught up in thinking that. Oh there's some love involved when really the love it for the money and you're just a representation of the money in value in terms of what your talents are. So the transaction is sports all money based they're drafting people. That can help them win. Help them sell tickets to help. People come to the stadium to help themselves television rights to help them sell ads. And that's all transactional and it's fine when you buy a beer for twenty dollars but we don't think about it the same you buy an athlete for two hundred million dollars because owners senior with three four five six billion dollars and a couple of million sound like twenty bucks to him. Here's the thing it's not racial is not love. it's not respect. Loyalty is transactions. That's gonna make bottom lines. Affected simple was there. And i'm glad carmelo said this took him eighteen years to say it probably because he had to realize he was on the outside looking in and it was no love no respect and obviously no loyalty so yeah athletes out there. Nobody carrying about chew. That's why trip when these athletes faz out overseeing sports but here's what's interesting sale. The only people that believe in loyalty sports that are really a part of sports fans. Ownership does not believe loyalty facts. We know that we players. I think players are learning not to believe this. Thank you right. I think the majority i mean the point. Lebron james has jumped around from place to place to place. He went back and he did really add to do but the break players. I truly believe in loyalty is to fans that do and i was thinking about it today. I was like. I think fans think they spouse when they decide shit bands. Have this notion that there the actual significant other in beatty other but just not as significant because they have taken so personally. But it's like a big dog is tethered to you all. I'm tethered to him. Like i got vail name on the back of my jersey whether it says lakers whether it says buccaneers whether says eagles whether it says what i got. They named their name. I don't bear yours. Their name bear my name but nowhere. Do i bear your name. And so the only perpetuation of loyalty is still primarily with fans fans. The game they drive the game fans a game would not necessarily exist without you to certain degrees however some spouse not the significant other. Yeah you significant and you the other. Yes significant day about nobody including fans but fans don't matter yes fans do. Let's talk about that because if a fan is not on board with this whole ecosystem is going to go away right just like society if she ain't bowler how this is going down. How does which way does car going away. Ride that way. Upsets napa cart. Say it that way right. So that's why it's weird. This is weird relationship with fans because fast issue online all day and in a want pictures which you the same fan so they see your real life so you know is fake and real then fast. Support us and look. I'll applause fans grown people wearing jerseys spilling beer fighting having that much passion that's why they're fanatics never never was passionate over something that they can't control. I am amazed at that but they are. They are equitable part of the equation. I just think sometimes visits grander and they get a little outside. Their lies in terms of what they value really is what carmelo was talking about. We already know now. Is this rule. They don't give a damn about you team sports right okay. that's fine. Is it rule now that players should now look at them and say i don't give a damn about you. I think it's getting there but it's not fully there. I'm looking at basketball players. You're donnas hassle eighteen years with the heat steph curry twelve years dinners list about seven guys with nine eight years. Mccullum klay thompson draymond basically the whole warriors. Most gaza are just bouncing. Now they're starting to realize that if they don't love me i'm a return fire.

They take away with them from the book. You know honestly like i want. This is more for the younger generation. Because i still feel like. I'm the connective tissue to a couple generations. And why i'm still able to speak. And and and the younger generation still listens to me. i wanted. I want them to feel like they have a voice. I want them to see my story here. My story and feel like damn if he like he really did it. You know not just somebody putting together. You know some pitchers story now. This is me right in my own story from my perspective. And that's what. I want everybody to know that you know it's cool to be. Vulnerable is cool to talk about things. That's uncomfortable and be comfortable being uncomfortable. And i don't regret anything or how. I grew up what i been through. I don't regret none of that. And because that's my foundation. Who i am today so this is what i'm saying what i meant when i wanted to see is a universal message. Also it's not just for boys not just for young girls it's any and everybody around the world who going through some type of struggle and looking for you know some type of light at the end of the tunnel so hope everybody get out of it and and on top of all of that. "In a lucid energy people are trying to recapture that is just something special is as it's listened moments in the garden on moments in the garden. You can't recreate that. You gotta let the moment happened. What's your favorite moment. Ever in the garden. I think that one like that that and not even playing just like walking out that tunnel and waving is just like seeing the video and they wouldn't show me video prior to that he was like man. We just going to give you a nice introduction. Will come out and i come on. You can't do this ships before the game. I got goosebumps. Yeah i shoot the ball over the basket right up so high but it was a it was a great moment man and you know that was that was one Thank i know we we play chicago. I think that was saint patrick's saint patrick's day or something like that sent todd game up in one game with two game winner so that was a moment. the sixty two point game Was pirated top What so i told you before. We started that I still a bulls fan. I still contend that if you had joined the bulls in two thousand fourteen that team would compete for title so walk me through that. I have a question. I and it's going to be creepy and i know the answer to it but i gotta ask you anyway do you. Yeah you probably have no idea who i am. You probably never never on your radar. But i did go on a hot dog strike for you to sign with the bulls that summer. I only ate hot dogs for dinner for like two weeks straight. I tweeted you every day being. Please calm bobby was hotdogs. I wasn't going to be going to be plotted guy. I just wasn't gonna be playing. It was never going to work every. And how'd you got me on the grill. Like mellow response me. He actually answered the question. I would not have been good. It wouldn't be a good fit for you being chicago if you don't like hotdogs. I know like chuck just when he message me. I guess sort of hot dog is backed off of that ever offer another man. I got it i got. It might have been tampering to now. That i'm thinking about it but let's let's talk about that because i do think you were. The perfect fit for that team Was it the fact that the front office and the coach will the coach. The front office was spying on him. Which actually i think was true. Did you catch win volvo c so you get it from the other side no i i do. How dysfunctional it was. Because you've you'll bulls fan. Yeah right so. That's what i'm saying. So that's helpful to know when i'll say my hands. Okay all right because you're giving it to me from from a difference. I thought that gar were spying on him. Which i think was actually true. I don't know what was going on. Okay i just know. I'm very ago for energy. I go fives. And when i get this icago any like the vibe was there you know joe kim was there the rose was there like you know we we talking about it and i'm sitting there and just like i want to make this happen like feel like if there's gonna be a time for me to make a move like this is the right move for me to make and then i leave and i go to a couple of other cities it wasn't it wasn't the same reaction invive energy but i'm started getting these texts and calls like man. This shit is crazy over here. You know we all know who want to be here. And i'm like i. I'm not about to leave one of them's type of situations that go another day. The same situation right. i rather just. I'd rather just come back home. Stay stay well matt so it is kinda true that the the front office and there. I've always thought that they're at least in that regime. They've changed now but that regime had trouble landing big free agents because that type of word gets out there around the league where it's like. Hey it's a little dysfunctional here. Yeah i think it was. I don't know bow. no i i've never heard of. Chicago was dysfunctional. Ben outsider was John paxson shocked. Vinny del negro. I've never. I've never. I've never heard of but you would see see things. You would read things you know you see reports on different players and you just like what is going on over there. Would it have been a good fit though. I think he would have because it was the offensive piece. A day was a great great team. Rhino they would they would score and they needed. They needed somebody else. Somebody else to score the basketball It was. I thought it was too much on d. Rose as a point guard to try to score. Get everybody involved. Lead a team you know. Mvp but that. That's that's still a lot when you don't you. Don't have that that robin which batman or whatever you know you'll have your. Yeah the superhero. Which yeah you know. You just have a great team. A well put together team. Great coach But when you got to do it when you do it yourself even though you can do it. Yourself is is tough yeah. I'm glad you brought up the batman. Robin because i'm about to ask a question that i'm going to hate saying but i have to ask so batman robin eighty lebron which is which who's batman. Who's rob. yeah. I'm i'm a justice league guide to okay so not original robin and i know the new robert. I watch teen titans and all that. So they both batman. But i'm gonna. I'm gonna i'm gonna i'm gonna say this. I think they're both batman. I think at times. I think a d can be robin wright. Lebron tried to be robin. But ain't who he is. He is batman. Bruce wayne eighty can be robin. He can switch it up. And that's how that's how i like to. I like to say that. Now they both batman but eighty can be robbing a little bit. More than lebron can be a robert. Yeah how frustrating was it when you were out of the league knowing that you were still better than a lot of guys in the league's i'd you know i'd see the videos. I am convinced that what's the gym called. That you guys all work out at here in the guy yeah. I'm convinced the rims are a slightly bigger because no one ever misses in that. "Ten time all star three time. Gold medalist carmelo anthony. American hero american hero. A like that is a good. Yeah i mean it is very very special guest. There's very few guests. That get the three varies. When i introduced them. And you definitely deserve it. so Mellows got a new book out. It is called where tomorrow's aren't promised a memoir of survival and hope go buy it It is about his childhood up until going to syracuse. that decision process So let's start with that. Let's start with the book. Yup going through it like reliving. Everything was there a moment that you went back and looked at. And you're like okay. This is where everything could have changed. This is the fork in the road. Moment that my life could have taken a totally different path than it did to everything. We just said three time. Gold medalist american hero. It was a first of all piece of everybody out there It was a moment when i was writing a book. And i'm just like tam like i really survive this right and it's a lot. It's a lot of things as i couldn't make the book you know so might be like some behind the scenes like you know offset off shoot of the of the actual book that i that i do but it was just that moment i was like thirteen fourteen and like i was losing. Everybody is friends and family and just it was just. I was asking that question. Why me why do you stay. Started why these things happen to me at end of the day and i just knew i knew i was going i just i felt it. I was on my way going left. I started doing things. I wasn't supposed to be doing And i just had it was. I wasn't rebellious just like a thirteen fourteen year old. You gotta figure it out. And i had. I had to make it ahead to make a hard decision. So when you were in baltimore and you're trying to figure out what you're gonna do for your next step. I know a lot of people probably want you to go to college park. Stay lok I'm sure that was a conversation that a few people had with you You know the acc at the time like there was probably some strong pull from north carolina. Duke you name it all those schools you decided to go to syracuse What what went into the thought process for why you felt that syracuse was the best place for you to go at that time. Well i was. I was always a big east fan growing up. I was always a big fan and my family living in new york and red hook. My family was saint john's diehards. You walk them uncle house. God bless his soul. You walk in. His house is all saint. John's so that's all that's all new was saint. John saint john's and you watch knicks games. And you watch saint. John's games and giants games. That was it. And i used to always save man. I wanna. i've a the big east. I have plan biggies. And as i got older. The biggest was the best conference in the country. At that point in time and syracuse came. And i was like you know something about that carrier. Dome thirty thousand no. Ac no ac ever accurate. I never lost it to carry it though. That's that's something that people don't talk about it i just. I know that you're proud of that. And we actually had. Jim calhoun on the show About a month ago when we talked about how awesome the big issues to be never losing it to carry a dome as a as the biggies. The base was special tournaments that they'd have sometimes where we like at the height of the biggest. When it was just physical basketball you had all the all the best teams in the biggies like all at the peak of the powers at the same time to me. I sometimes i what. I liked watching that tournament more than i liked watching the ncaa tournament. Because there was actual bad blood between those teams. Well into biggies. I will say that when you compare conferences. And i'm talking about back then. The acc have rivals. We all know duke carolina. You know we we. We knows rivals and biggies. You not rivals and you filled at every single time. You got play. Sarajevo's georgetown You say cow home sandwiches yukon. Several saint john's sarah. You see hall Boston college providence. Like these gains was ruckus Games georgetown's georgetown. Like i said georgetown what it was like when you when you really get a sense of. What a rivalry is the biggies had it. Yeah and you had basically the perfect college career in that you went. For one year you won the the first national title for syracuse. Jim bay. I'm everything that's perfect. Best player in the country Did you. i remember reading at the time. And i've seen stories about it that you you actually wanted to stay in jim pay. I'm must like no. You're not staying real was that you actually say that's a fact much bail until we get my ass off the campus. He don't wanna see me. No more i'll bet be back on campus but it was you know i was explaining this to somebody on the way here. I wanted to go back because at a time when we started to win like the march april you know. We won the championship to go back on camp. I was just starting to like get my feet wet on campus. You know the weather was changing. First of all you is twenty inches of snow every day in syracuse. So the weather started they change dass witnessed the the the unified school started to blossom So you seeing people. The bars is open. The quad is popping two student centers popping. So you just. I started to be a student again. Big man on campus big man on campus as a student not a basketball player. So i started to experience it from the regular students perspective. It's started going to frat parties. And shit i started hanging with regular students are. I was just enjoying myself. Yeah i mean. I could see why you would want to go back especially after run like that and you right like upstate. New york in the spring and the summer. It's nice and it makes you forget about what it's going to be like. You would have gone back and not regret under sick. You would have been so pissed off and you would have seen all you would see where you would have gone to the draft and you would just be like looking at your bank account out of his sick when my when my doing. I should have listened to coach when you when you're at syracuse..

Talk myself into why. Wanna watch that game But then i had a thought last night. And i'm almost ashamed to have thought it but i'm even more shame to now kind of be agreeing with that. Take that i had. Which is i wouldn't hate mitch. Trubisky on the football team. No that's not a bad take. That's not that's not even a crazy you. I don't think it is anymore. I thought i was nuts. When i last night i slept on it. He's better than taylor hind. Can he might be better than taylor. Highly absolutely about cam. Well i trust in riverboat. Excuse me analytical ron because he did not invite cam newton to come trial for the team when he was a free agent last year. And ron would know as as much as anybody about whether or not cam newton good fit on that. This mitch obviously has problems. He did go to the playoffs twice. And i know that the defense was the the main driver of that but he can do things. That don't fuck you up. I like our rehabilitating mitch trubisky or like george w bush someone said we say they're like The giants fans are going through what you went through with mitch. And i'm like i feel like it's a lot easier to walk away from january jones and a guy who even though for all the problems you had. You still went to the playoffs twice. Who had a little bit more difficult than your brain. But yeah no mitch mitch. Absolutely he looked good that game against the bears. He looked like a starting quarterback. I've thought about that. I also heard that fitzpatrick sat for six to eight weeks. Now there's maybe the.
LeBron James Reacts to Amassing Zero Votes for NBA's Best Player
"So we see this tweet from NBA Central 10 Scouts and executives voted on the best players heading into the 2021 2022 season. Yanez five votes, Kevin Durant five votes and LeBron James zero votes, and I guess this poll was done. Via ESPN, and LeBron sees it. And LeBron, of course, has to respond to it. Now let me remind you This was a few weeks back. Where the trade did go down with Russell Westbrook. And then the Lakers also acquired Carmelo Anthony LeBron James took to Twitter and you may not remember this tweet because he posted and then quickly deleted it and LeBron James said. Keep talking about my squad. Our age is the way he plays. He stays injured. We're past our time in this league, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Do me one favor, please. And I mean, please keep that same narrative energy. When it begins. That's all I ask. Thank you. I think he meant negative energy, but he he wrote narrative energy. Or maybe they're supposed to be a comma or period somewhere in that place. But you get the point. LeBron James, and I don't have a problem with him using this as motivation, right? Sometimes you use things as motivation. And you go. Yeah, that's not authentic. Like. Does anyone seriously believe that the Lakers don't have a shot to get to the NBA Finals this year? Especially with how I just laid it out. The Lakers just won a championship two years ago. Right? So now I'm going to say after one season later. Headed into them. It would be two seasons later. Oh, yeah. LeBron and Anthony Davis. No shot to win a championship like give me a break. And today LeBron sees this poll done by ESPN and he goes. Thank you. As if I didn't need more fuel if I didn't need more gas to fuel me. And then hashtag. Wash King.

"From three. What kind of transition has been for your game again. It's just different situations right and in different moments. So that without a situation where i had thought i had to adapt again. I'd say that my game to what was going on into the situation into the the you know the the personnel. That i had around me so i look i watch and observe. This is what i need to do. And this is what okay. I have to do it this way after work on this and i have to have to do this so and you know to be honest with you whiffed that it came town where it's like man. I don't think he's feeling right about this. So i just don't feel for me and i doing it the right way. You know so that that comes with that comes with the season so having guys that we spent chewing that you respect that you can talk to and when things get tough and you know you all everybody's in the same battle together so that's what. Got me through portland and and being just being able to adapt to my environment. It's on my situation. we're talking to carmelo anthony mental. I got here to. La and sorta work at the lakers the year. Kobe got here and got to know him. Really well and i was stunned one day when i said. Are you the best. I said to kobe. Are you the best mid range shooter in the league. It's mellow he's he goes i. It's carmelo he said he shoots. He said he's like me. He said he just he goes. I can play perfect defense on him and still scores. Was your relationship like with koby. And what do you miss the most about him. I just i mean my relationship with my relationship and it was. it was deepening. The relationship it was a it was a connection that that we had. It was a bond that we had it was a mindset that we you know that we had that we at my amount one another You know he's he's always been that guy you know kinda. Give me a tough love. And you know when having bad games or bad shooting nights and he's always calling him in curse you out and you know it was you know able to. And he was a he was a big brother. You know the way that a big brother should be you know it. It was you know like you said you know koby so it was always tough love with him. It was always challenges in in in test that you had to pass when you know when when it came to him you know if he's if he supported you and he rocked which you then you don't feel that he was going to fill that full support and that was something that i always admired about him. You know i can. We could be in the season. We might not talk for months or weeks and you know when we get back on the phone or we chase message or whatever and it's just like we you know we just spoke last night so you know that that's a different type of a different type of bond that we have your now planned for a seventeen time. Nba champion the los angeles lakers coming off a championship in twenty twenty. What does it mean to you. Just to be a laker. I think people are paying people downplay that and as far as what it truly means to be a laker especially with like. I don't wanna. I don't want to downplay that like it's a special thing it's it's a special moment It's a special experience. You know for me. I wanna i wanna embrace that you know. No i haven't. I haven't play for the lakers before years. And you know. I've been i've been you know. They oppose it over here and plan against the lakers. They're trying to beat the lakers. And then boom by the lakers. And you know what i'm saying. Like that's what i that's what i come from. But now even in the midst of all that still understood. Damn this is what it means to be a laker. And i had some of that experience being in new york being in another major market a big in a big organization. It's like i know what it meant to be a knick you know not not just from the basketball but just the the camaraderie that the city had for that so i know what it means to be you know a laker and just that comradery and being that big market and then with that organization and i understand all of that so i don't take. I don't take any of that work for granted. All right last thing for me. I was there the night. Kobe scored sixty one in the garden. And for a few years he held the scoring record in that building. Until you broke it when you scored sixty two in twenty fourteen. Were you aware of that. Did you know that that. Kobe at sixty one sixty two would break it. Was that something that you guys laughed about or with. Did it just kind of evolve and happen. No i'm they leave. I mean before that. No i mean i i mean we all know you know certain people and certain players while the cost of basketball and just spoilt that you just know. They're big mme moments. When you support that you you understand that so. Kobe sixty one in the garden was a major moment in was a major milestone so everybody knew that Going into that game by game. I didn't i wasn't expecting the school with sixty sixty. You know sixty two. It wasn't it wasn't too after the game when i talked to him. And he's like. Oh why you had to do that. You wanna do that while i'm coming in. Okay i got back. It was all i'm like i'm like oh you scored sixty one six to one up me again. Like what do you. What do you want to do with school. A hundred what do you want to do. So those those are the conversations that we had after that awesome. Well listen we are really excited. That you're here man. Were really excited for this upcoming season. See all the pieces fit together. Thank you for coming on a mellow. We really appreciate your time. Appreciate you not look for the band around you guys. Thank you thanks. There's carmelo anthony and yeah it'll be interesting to see you know. He said his role adapted important..

"That michael does what is the most egregious so you go to a nice steak house with michael thing number one is. He will wear sweats so everybody else's dressed in a college shirt and slacks. Yes nice shoes. Michael sweats and tennis shoes. All right now that's number. One number two some steakhouses especially the nice ones were. We'll be highly offended if you put ketchup on steak. Yes michael knows this so he brings a small bottle of ketchup with him to the restaurant. Oh god all right. And none of the three dimensional walks in. He will have a red solo cup filled to the top with wine. So he does not have to pay the exorbitant. Wind braces will have a full glass of red nice wine normally but a red solo cup so he walks in and sweats with a red solo cup and a bottle of ketchup in his pocket. Which one of those things is the. Most i think it's the solo cup man. I think they have that thing called. Fee were even if you bring your own bottle of wine and you open it. You've gotta he gets around the corks thing. Yeah i think that's the most egregious that's just that has some that cheap. Some places will tell him sir. We can't have you drinking red solo cup with that. You know wine glass for you. And he'll say sure. Is that the way people react. People are okay. Restaurant people are okay with it. Sure he's michael thompson. He's an international celebrity. I find the steak on The catcher keshavan steak thing not necessarily the biggest deal in the world because people use a one steak sauce all the time so catcher. Isn't that big. I think it's a waste of a perfectly good steak. I'll tell you it's a waste of good. Steak is going to fancy restaurant like deer. John's that i went to with The boss people and the boss people are really irritating and then the food doesn't even taste good so annoyed by the company that it ruined the food. It ruined the food absolutely. Did you know what i did this weekend. Which dwight howard recommended was. We ordered hamburgers from a place called the window on road. That's house and they are fantastic to white. Today was his favorite spot. I think dwight is dead on the money. I don't know if i will ever get hamburgers from anywhere else again. They are so frigging good. Strongly strong ups to dwight howard for that shoutout completely unsolicited. It's called the window american beauty. It's on rose avenue in in venice and you should definitely check that out because those burgers there are killing it. On any of the lakers summer league game last night. No no okay. So they have to players. Who reminded me a lot of alex caruso and not just because these guys are white. One of these guys is mac mc lung. Have you seen this dude play. No have not really good shooter super aggressive so with the game on the line. They're down to and mac. Mcclellan hits a couple of free throws and then they're down four thousand tied the game with the mid range jumper makes it seventy one. The other guy is a guy named austin reeves who played oklahoma. Okay who caught a a a mid. He basically had a rebound put back. Won the game for the lakers. They ended up winning by one. I wonder if that's why the lakers were willing to let caruso go. Because they had these dudes in the pipeline. You should those guys on way. Deals reeves's for sure. I don't know if mc lung is or not a look it up but so you think we could actually see these guys you'll see the nba level leaves. You'll see res for sure you'll see reeves in the preseason. Oh and the preseason sure. And i think you'll see clung to. I think he played really well too. So i mean he didn't make his shots early was like for nine but then when the game was on the line he had a bunch of big plays. That might be one of the reasons that might take the sting out of losing a little bit as you guys really look. They can play. Yeah yeah well. People are gonna miss caruso sure you know crusoes. Full kiro legend status crew show. I mean you're getting all that stuff. I'm happy that he got a big deal. I'm happy that he he cashed in and was able to. I'm disappointed that he's not with the lakers. But i do understand it. And by the way is dennis schreuder still out there. I think so. I thought my god ended up in boston. But i'm not sure that guy turned down. Eighty four million dollars and now he's i mean is he going to get i. Don't get any money. yeah. Yeah but i mean. It probably isn't going to be eighty four million. Oh it's definitely not going to be eighty four million. He blew that he completely blew that. That's going to keep you up at night. That's that's fire the agent time isn't it. Maybe he could go back to germany. I don't know what the money's owns that team in germany. Did you know that one. That's not really read. That's kind of robbing peter to pay. Paul could hire himself to play for his german team if he wanted to. But yeah no. No sign of him in the lakers. Still technically technically could do a sign and trade. It's unlikely at this point right. But they could conceivably do a sign and trade. I don't think they'd bring them back under any circumstances. I just don't think he's a laker. I just. I don't think got what it means to be a laker. So i don't. I don't want him back. I don't think he's coming back. But could you flip them for something. Maybe you flip something. Yeah like you said. It's unlikely you'd meet a team that had no cap space that'd be willing to give you assets. Most teams can figure out a way to get him in without even dealing with the lakers. Because he's an unrestricted free agent. But maybe by the way let me a couple of these guys are still out there. Avery bradley i know they liked him when he was here. One ring sure possible isaiah. Thomas not really what they need although he had eighty one points in a charity game over the weekend paul millsap..

"To stir the pot. Because that's sort of thing just toss us out somewhat cryptic tweets all the time So i do. Think the bigger issue with ben simmons is. The sixers are open to bring him back. The sixers are in a lotta ways. I think they would prefer that they would prefer say we don't want to trade this guy who can win defensive player of the year. Who is a young superstar in the making. Just come back and let's let's work on this but it doesn't seem like there's a there's a bridge there that is being walked across by both sides. I don't think i don't know. Ben simmons has that interest right now. Because i think were said afterwards after the season doc rivers said some things. Joel embiid said some things. I know there's been trying to smoothing out of that relationship but it doesn't seem like ben is necessarily interested in that right now. Maybe joel just really wanted to know what was going on. Maybe he mentions like why are people not telling me what their cars are doing. I'm not reading anything into the social media. But look i agree with ramona. The sixers would like to bring ben back ultimately in new team context. Maybe he looks better because his trade value right now is just not where daryl morey wants it to be. And that's why. I thought when kyle lowry went to the heat i thought the most interesting follow question. What was okay. Philly wanted to kyle lowry. What do they do now. Because if there was universe could get a quality perimeter player change ben's role a little bit. It was plausible at least in theory. Ben kind of morphs into a better player. Different player trae value up. And now that seems to be out the window. And like raimondo said maybe the face is just far out of the tube and boy if he's if he's on the rosser when training camp starts. I'll be very curious to see what is going on at that time. Well i mean well here. It is right in both both for yellow right. And here's the thing down more in the philadelphia. Seventy sixers are not trading. The way ben simmons for nothing. They're trying to get back. Mvp all nba type live for him. And if they don't get they're going to keep him they're going to keep him and they feel like they could fix the problem. They feel like all they. All it takes is a little marriage. Counseling you know. Look coming to jesus meeting tom. Heal wounds okay. You let everything settle. Dial you lock guys up in the gym. You make them work on they're craft. But here's the thing we're holding everybody accountable. We're saying things about being a joel. Embiid doc rivers in what they said in the post game interview but we have to hold ben simmons accountable been simmons and we're not just talking about him shooting jump shot. We're talking about him. Bring it back. Just having his overall confidence of even looking to score As attacking the basket. And if i'm ben. Simmons i'm blocking myself in the gym and i'm shooting a thousand free throws a day. That's the only reason bill. Simmons didn't want to attack the basket was because he was scared to go to the free. Throw line it's all about. Confidence is all about accountability. And one thing. I know from being under the guy and winning the championship. Doc rivers not only as a helluva coach but he's a great mentor and he's a great guy as far as repair relationships and making things happen and make things work. Let's not forget that this team was one game away from being in the eastern conference finals so at the end of the day. Look if you can't get what you want form bring them back. This guy still has a very high ceiling to reach. He hadn't even reached his prime yet. It's still a lot of hope for these young men man you guys. I've been saying for this entire stretch. This is the lowest his trade value. It just does not seem to make sense to me. now. I don't have to be a now locker room but it does not make sense to me. As an organization to train him when his value was the lowest. You want to wait till his value comes back up to more teams are closer and maybe have had an injured player and they need benjamin's in there more than they need a ben simmons right now and i do think doc is good at repairing relationships and at some point you're all being paid millions of dollars plan a team together. Make it. okay ben. Simmons did decide not to play for team australia. Be in the semi-finals against the us when that comes up at the end of the week to work on his game perk just like you suggested so. "What are your thoughts on the lakers strategy. Now that we are seeing a panic you know what's amazing race is. I was in the parking lot. This is back when we used to do. Stakeouts number eight agency was staked out meetings and everybody used these have meetings before everybody constantly. I g storied in tweeted. You don't have to stake any players out now they'll just tell you and it was. It was amazing because the lakers really thought they had a chance of mellow back in two thousand fourteen. That was a big moment and they got really close. The only trump car was phil. Jackson was the president of back then and he had the fifth year and he gave him the the whole thing but they they really thought they had a at carmelo. Anthony all those years later and you look. I mean that's my favorite expression on the show. I guess sliding doors gay but the sliding doors of mellows career of lebron's career I like this. I like that mellow sort of restarted his career and and he's become a really three point shooter career-high forty one percent last year. That's what the lakers need. And and their cumulative ages are getting up like he will be there and to make lebron feel like he's a little bit older than the But the i love. I love the fact that they got mellow angelique. Mom and bleak muck on a minimum. I was going to say that is that is some wizard near also kind of speech. Zoo our strategy. We were talking about with chris bosh yesterday. That when he and lebron and dwayne waiver down in miami they were able to be like. Hey come to miami. I know you won't be making that much money. But come and be with us. Yeah it's gonna be a party and it seems like they are starting to pick up a little bit of that momentum to look my big question about the lakers. Now is the burden on defense for lebron who is still incredible. Defensively and anthony davis and we all know is defense. Kennedy is getting bigger and bigger and bigger because what you troll the minimum. Been guys like this. They're older liabilities defensively. But mellow to ramona's point has bought into a spot up shooting role and been really good at it. and he's gonna fit well next to laurent. Emily monk look he's not going to get the headlines here because this is carmelo.
Melo Joins LeBron as Lakers Make Several Moves

"Story and look. This is the kind of flyer the lakers were going to have to take. They did not have any capri left to go. They're going to have to get guys. They're chasing rings on the minimum and carmelo to his credit. He wants to do ice. Oh and shoot it portland. He bought into a role as a spot up. Shooter shot the three well. That's the role. He's going to have to play for the lakers. But with all of these guys whether it's ellington as more reza carmelo with the exception of res. I think the big question is going to be when push comes to shove when you're in the conference finals when you're in the second round the place whatever it is. Can you stay on the floor defensively. Do the lakers who have made their bones all the sexy stuff. Whatever they have made their bones on defense have they hurt their defense. Too much in this in this. All of this rosser building. I think that's they. They are going to be a really interesting team. Well let me ask you a question which also reporting maleek monk to the lakers. Where do you think now as you look at the whole roster and where where it sort of sets or great flyer for the lakers. I haven't seen that. I looked at my phone kind of nice bounceback season last year. He could really shoot. He can play make as a secondary playmaker that is. That's that when they lost caruso they needed more guys in their prime and maliki manca stolen is prime. And i think that's a that's a great move by rapport guys so great flyer parkway where you see what i love the move of getting mark. I think he's a hell of a addition. But you see. Zach is still trying to find holes and talking about defensive prowess in the defensive identity. They still have anthony davis they still have the white. How would they still have lebron. James look when you have a veteran group like is. This group is built for a seven game series because you have a veteran group. That's gonna bulk down. They know what it takes. You have a lot of championship spears. Look stop trying to find holes and find things. That's wrong with the lakers. Instead of just saying listen. I know they have an old scoring but they have a lot of talent on this team. They have a lot of death and they have fixed these holes joe trying to talk about depth. I don't know talent. yes and look now in one place. I just want to put this out there. Lebron james anthony davis russell westbrook carmelo anthony. The list goes on to show on. Talk about showtime. I think is going to be pretty incredible right across the street here. I'm personally happy. We have another orioles fan here in. La our friend. Kyle goon from the orange. County register is very excited. I know about that as well. So the newsgroup so Yeah i think that Overall this is a win all the way. We are going to be talking a lot. More about the lakers. We're gonna be talking about team. Usa able to push back spain.

"Year. it's not like he's in decline or anything and that was without klay thompson that was with the team. That was kind of a makeshift team. Trying to find its way. They obviously have made so far choice to stay younger and draft younger players. And that's sort of been controversial but look this would be really good next year. And this this is what you do for an all time icon not just set an all time leader and culture center for that locker room all the vibes. All everything stems from him and look. There's no question that he was just chime back. And god knows. I just wanna know zach zach could give us then. We'll go when three points La fitness is act. You be dignified this. I hope he just fell off your chair. I just want to get a little credit. My shoulders doing excellent excellent job here. And there's no question of course steph curry of composes himself. There's no question steph. Curry deserves the only interesting wrinkle. I think in this and this is good bring on the warriors is that lebron kind of ushered in with those one in one's with cleveland and we saw kevin durant then do it and golden state and then we've other people pick it up throughout the league this idea of players using short or contracts to hold management accountable players who realized they were so good. Didn't need the quote security of a four year deal because they knew in a year or two they could get another big deal so why not have shorter deals to hold management management accountable producer. Steve is eric saying stall so we gotta work on that but the idea that that you hold management accountable and i think that him signing this deal early remember youngest into kupu did not sign that supermax until the first week of training camp basically right. He was already back in training camp and that was on purpose. The purpose was. Let's see what you do this summer. The fact that steph curry has signed this extension right at the beginning of when he could sign this extension. That to me is just as much of a message as the holding people accountable guys of saying i am holding management accountable. And i think they're doing good work. I think it is a specific vote of confidence in the front office and we should note that as well. I think the reason that producer. Steve has asked me to stall a little bit is that we have breaking news going on adrian. We're now ski reporting carmelo. Anthony is on his way back to sorry. He's on his way to back to being reunited.

Phil Jackson blames Carmelo Anthony for the downfall of the Knicks
"Phil. Jackson was on a podcast with kobe. Carl carl's son. And he blamed the knicks failures during his tenure. There on carmelo anthony's lack of leadership. Is this a big deal or no deal. Well he didn't just blame it on. Carmelo anthony lack of leadership. He blamed it on everyone but himself. He blamed it on the new york media. He blamed carmelo anthony. He blamed derek fisher. Although there fisher. Does you know we love fisher on here. But he does deserve that one but he blamed on like five different people anyone but him he said. I should have coached the team but physically couldn't do it from a health perspective. I mean dog. You know what. I mean like the greatest coach of all time just because you weren't a good gm. We're not all good at everything. So i would say big deal only because he just like let it out on everybody but himself i feel like i got a glimpse into who he is as a coach to like. I always wondered if he fully appreciated how blessed he was to coach the men that he coached and to me. I'm not saying this is definitive but for me when you show an inability to take responsibilities for your thoughts right that suggest you have an ability to take too much credit for your successes correct. And so when. I am that quote i was like. I knew you didn't think that you were lucky to get jordan. Utah jazz looking to have you

Lillard's late 3 gives Blazers 108-106 win over Warriors
"Damian Lillard hit what proved to be the game winning three point shot with thirteen point seven seconds remaining as the Portland trail Blazers beat the Golden State Warriors one away to one oh six Lillard scored his team's last eight points in the final two minutes as the trail Blazers rallied for the victory now is the time where like I got a four seed to lose I got it I got to create opportunity even if it's a tough one or even whatever happens I gotta put my foot on the gas a little bit more and try to make something happen Lillard and Carmelo Anthony scored twenty two points for Portland while Robert Covington and Gary Trent junior each chipped in fifteen points apiece Stephan curry topped the worst with thirty five points or Draymond green had twelve assists and nine rebounds I'm Jim Bernard
Detroit Pistons will sit Blake Griffin while team considers trade, buyout
"Watson routes give espn dot com has reported that not only. Is andre drummond. Kind of getting shut down for this whole trade talk discussion but also his former detroit. Pistons teammate blake griffin. It sounds like we'll be held out of the lineup. Until they can sort of figure out what his next move is is there a trade available for blake griffin or does this have to be a very extensive buyout situation where you know blazing to give some money out to get his freedom to go play for a good team. How do you resolve. This blake griffin situation. And why are they going to shut him down. I mean he's been very rough. So far this season i think a lot of people have noticed that he hasn't had a single dunk all year. Which just seems incomprehensible for the player. He was earlier in his career. He's basically a three point line. Two three point line Shooter at this point if you wanna put it that way in terms of his impact Is there a way out for detroit. Here or what are they doing man the blake griffin situation is is pretty rough Yeah he just hasn't had a very good season not moving. While he's only thirty one which is like hard to believe. Honestly i you just look at them and you think that. He's like in his late thirties. Ve how long he's been in our like our collective conscience and how great he used to be You would like to think that he could have an impact a positive impact on a championship contender. I don't know if that's possible anymore. Especially when he's not hitting the three ball and he's not hitting the three ball even though he takes a bunch of them so i don't know man like it will be. It'll be really interesting if they do. Waive him even though like. I don't have the limit. I'm trying to find the contract numbers. I know he's still oh quite a bit of money. So that's gonna be really interested this year. It's thirty six point five next year. He's got a player option for thirty eight point nine. Oh so you're not gonna get anything close to that this summer. So the buyouts to have to kind of reflect that if they did kind of pursue that direction mean maybe. They're just trying to hope that they can construct a trade to dump him onto someone else's someone else eats that money next year. I don't know how you really get out of that. I mean it could be a situation where they've just decided look man like your body's not they're just take some time and hope that you can kind of get into a better spot but mean it does kind of look unsalvageable for him at this point you know and i hate to say that because there were times for derrick rose where looked unsalvageable to and he's come back to make himself like a valuable role player in certain situation You know is there. A role for a blake griffin lake career bench renaissance where he follows the carmelo anthony model right and he's only play in like sixteen minutes a game and he gives you good sixteen eighteen minutes and that's it Could that be like a second chapter for him. I don't know. But i think this idea of him as fulltime starter. Impact guy or major contributor is is basically done.

This is a priority to stand up for the people who are not being spoken for. And i think that really unleashed an incredible sense of ownership from these young. Nba players have incredible crop of under twenty five players in the nba. Who do for their communities before they even do for themselves and really again. You have some the elite players in the lead taking a lead in it. In fact. Stephen jackson just let the cat out of the bag. That kyrie irving has bought a house for the family of george. Floyd floyd stephen. Of course close friends growing up together in south texas phys kyrie. Be a leader. You can i. Jimmy Kimmel ditched his studio audience for a somber tribute to Kobe
"Jimmy Kimmel. Who does this show from here in L. A. had coby on his show fifteen times times and was so affected By the accident and by his death that he decided to send the studio audience home last night he did not have a studio the audience and he opened his show by saying this. Hi I'm Jimmy Kimmel and tonight show is going to be different from our usual. We'll show we don't have a studio audience here tonight because going forward with a comedy show didn't feel right considering what happened yesterday. So I'd like to speak to you. Directly we as you undoubtedly know Koby Bryant and his daughter Jonah and seven of their friends were killed in a helicopter crash yesterday here in Los Angeles and that was a punch in the gut for many of us. Kobe was and I know this might not make sense but he was just the last person you could ever imagine something like this happening to. He was so strong and handsome and smart and energetic he was a hero. And when I say that I don't mean hero like real heroes like firefighters or doctors and nurses who actually save lives. I don't mean to compare what he did for a living moving to what they do. I know there are more important. Things have basketball. Almost everything is more important but Kobe was a hero in the way. Superman is a hero. He was so big. It was almost like he was a fictional character. A real life superhero with a costume and everything walking amongst us. Those of us. Who Love the Lakers? No it seemed like he always came through. He always showed up to save the day he wanted to save the day. He had a force of will will. He never gave up as an athlete. He was incredibly gifted more than almost anyone. He was talented beyond reasoning. Yet he worked harder than everyone. He work harder than people with much less talented he had. He took his job and his pursuit of excellence so seriously he was completely dedicated to being as good as he possibly could be which is inspiring to anyone who does anything and we loved him because of that but we also loved him because he was ours we watched him grow up here he came to La when he was a teenager and unlike almost every other superstar athlete he never left in his twenty year career he will only wear to uniforms. Forums for the Lakers and for the United States Olympic team. There were times when it seemed like he would leave but he didn't he stayed until the end and e someone almost everyone in. This city loved not just Lakers fans. Everyone would light up when they saw myself. Many times he was special he was a special person a great basketball player for sure but more than that he had so many interests outside of sports he was intensely curious he would call people. He admired to interview them. Business leaders writers inventors. He was always learning always improving hunger for that when he was injured when he tore his Achilles. I sent him a book and he to my surprise prize's read it and then called me to discuss it in maniacal detailing want to know everything about it and then I was like. I don't know Kobe. I didn't write it. I just bought the book and I had to put them in touch with the guy who wrote the book and that's what he was like. I'd many conversations Kobe off of television and they always involved his daughter's water's always you. Once retired for basketball his life revolved around their lives. He was very proud of them. He loved being a father when my son had heart surgery he he checked in with me repeatedly he made a point once. Billy my son was out of the hospital to meet him. He wanted to meet him and from time to time. You check in to see how he was doing and yes I know he was not a perfect person. I understand that a my intention is not to canonize him or or make judgements about things. I don't know anything about but I will say he loved this family. He worked very hard and he brought a lot of joy to a lot of people in this city. And we're going to miss him and I hope you'll pray for his daughter Jonah. And for their mother Vanessa for the three girls. Kobe left behind lost their father and their sister and his friends were on that flight. Within the Altobelli Family Christina mousers family. Chester family are as a buy-in the pilot. I can't imagine how much they are missed. This was a terrible loss for those families and the Lakers for Kobe teammates fans. It's just there's no silver lining here. It's it's all bad. It's all sad. He was a bright light. And that's how I wanNA remember him and you're hitting all sorts of reactions like this Carmelo Anthony any now. Just put up an instagram post. Chris Paul put up an instagram posts. I think people are starting people who have been able to utter a word the last two days. We've seen Lebron last night now. Carmelo and C. P. Three today read part of the Carmelo. Anthony Post he says I hate when I have so much to say but I can't put any of it into words the times I have the most to say are the Times that I can't talk. I'm screaming inside but I can't be heard you don't know how hard it is to pretend to smile when I have these clouds of emotions you you just called me and told me you were coming to the game Friday and that you were proud of me so colby colby had talked to Carmelo and was planning to be at the game Friday night

Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?
"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.
