Remember the Elián González Saga?
"Just reminds I love it when there are all these strange political bedfellows. It goes back to ilian Gonzalez in the Clinton administration. Remember the little boy in a little Havana in Miami? His mother drowned bringing him into the country and the father in Cuba wanted the little boy back and Janet Reno's Justice Department broke down the door and they swiped the kid from the arms of the relatives and delivered the boy back to communist Cuba. Remember that? And I remember at the time I was at a conference with a bunch of talk show hosts and all the big mouths on the radio gathered, which is rough. That's not a place I'm not real comfortable because I believe me, I'm mindful that I'm one of those big mouths and no one knew what position to take because it was, I mean, it was Clinton and we don't want to be pro Clinton, but on the other hand, family values, the kids being returned to daddy back in Cuba. Yeah, but it's communist Cuba. It's Phil de Fidel Castro. No one knew what to do. Well, the same thing's happening here. He got Tom Friedman from The New York Times lashing out at Pelosi. You've got Tucker Carlson from Fox News, condemning Pelosi. You've got, I guess, Pelosi supporters loving what she's doing. And you've got the Biden administration letting her go.
Tom Friedman: Nancy Pelosi's Visit to Taiwan Is 'Utterly Reckless'
"The airplane delivering House speaker Nancy Pelosi has landed on the island of Taiwan. Listen to what Tom Friedman from The New York Times wrote today about Pelosi's visit. He calls it utterly reckless. Friedman wrote yesterday, I have a lot of respect for House speaker Nancy Pelosi, but if she does go ahead with the visit to Taiwan this week, against President Biden's wishes, she will be doing something that is utterly reckless, dangerous and irresponsible, nothing good will come of it. The liberal columnist for The New York Times wrote, Taiwan will not be more secure or more prosperous as a result of this purely symbolic visit and a lot of bad things could happen. These include a Chinese military response that could result in the U.S. being plunged into direct conflicts with a nuclear armed Russia and a nuclear armed China at the same time. I wonder how Tom Friedman feels about being on the same side with Tucker Carlson. Over an issue of international global ideology and politics.
Washington AG Announces Probe Into Seattle Pacific Uni's Beliefs
"All of these kids are now outraged, there was not outrage in years prior. You know why? Because these kids are coming out of a public school system that has been radicalized. I mean, you've got predators now walking the hallways of these schools disguised as teachers. They're not teaching the kids how to read and write their confusing them about their pronouns. They're teaching them how to have gay sex. It's just unbelievable what they're teaching these kids. And again, this is happening, and these are your tax dollars being used. To propagate all of this. So this is why a lot of these Christian universities are now facing this problem. This dilemma of these young students that are protesting long held long cherished beliefs. So now we get word that the attorney general of the state of Washington has officially filed an investigation. And we have the story up on Todd starns dot com. This is insane. Because now you have the state of Washington investigating a Christian university because of their religious beliefs. It's obscene, but this is what's happening, ladies and gentlemen, this is what's happening in America. And I told you it was going to happen. People laughed. People at Fox News channel mocked me. They openly mocked me. And by the way, it was even the prime time lineup before Tucker Carlson became the Tucker Carlson he is now, his staff said there's no way any of this stuff is true. Well, it turned out to be true. No need to apologize Fox News. But at the end of the day, I knew what I was talking about.
Tucker Carlson: Only Took 1.5 Years for Biden to Destroy Our Economy
"Tucker Carlson talked about how it only took a year and a half for the Biden administration to destroy the American economy. Now, we all knew that a Joe Biden presidency was going to be back. We knew that once he was sworn into office. I don't know that anyone knew that it would happen this quickly. And I agree with Tucker Carlson. It's pretty phenomenal that in just a year and a half, Biden's been able to accomplish this. This is cutting them. It didn't take long, it took well about a year and a half for the Biden administration to destroy the American economy and drive this nation into a recession. Now the Biden administration will admit to our intercession, in fact, they've tried to redefine the word recession just as they've redefined the words democracy and racism and women. But you don't need to know what the word is to know what is happening. If you live here, you see it every single day. We're in a recession. The economy has been shrinking all year. Real wages are at record lows. And at the same time, inflation is the highest it's been in the lifetime of most Americans. So call it whatever you want, but it's a recession, and it's scary. And they're ignoring it.
Benny Johnson Unpacks Tucker Carlson's Comments on 'The New Right'
"Want to play this tape. Play cut two 77 Tucker Carlson in Iowa. Talking about the new right. Play cut two 77. And I mean like Republican leaders and just on principle, that enraged me. And it's not just evangelicals, but it's basically the average Republican voter is not represented in a meaningful way by his or her leaders in Washington. And I can not stress that enough, and I can not overstate how hostile that makes me. So, you know, I have every intention of staying in the job that I'm blessed to have, but I'm going to keep hammering that, not because I want to weaken the Republican Party. No, because the Republican Party is our only option. That's it. No one's starting a new party. This is not going to work. And we need immediate attention and help. This is an SOS moment. I really feel that way. An SOS moment, Benny, your thoughts. Well, Tucker Carlson is in Iowa, so I'm from Iowa, and you're from Midwest. And so that's very interesting that he's using the platform of Iowa in the first state in the nation to give these remarks I know Tucker. I've worked for Tucker. I don't think he's running for president, but he was asked there. That's his response to are you running for president? And Tucker didn't necessarily say no. So are things going to get super interesting? I don't know, but of course, obviously Tucker is correct there. The easiest thing to say in our business, Charlie is one that you have a receding hairline. And then two, Tucker Carlson is correct. Those are the two easiest things to say in our industry. And so it is absolutely true that Tucker Carlson has been the drum beat and the heartbeat of the Republican Party. And it's also very sad that the Republican Party sort of functions as those same machine corporate machine that the Democrat party functions as inside of the sell a corridor.
Tucker Carlson: Two Standards, One Corrupt Justice System
"Patient. And the judge through the book at her. Here was Tucker's take on it last night on Fox News channel's Tucker Carlson tonight. The sentencing judge Lambert admitted he wanted to make an example out of the cell's lady woman. Why? Because he was frustrated that the defendant in a separate case made statements they were quote embarrassing to me. That actually happened. And therefore, because he was embarrassed by somebody else, Lambert decides to take it out on this elderly woman. And that's horrible. That's not justice. It's the opposite. And it gets worse. At the same time, this was happening. The U.S. attorney for D.C. at the same point they were sending an elderly cancer patient to jail, this same U.S. attorney's office announced that they were dropping charges against 9 members of Stephen Colbert's production crew. Now, capitol police had caught this group of producers trespassing inside the longworth House office building on the evening of Thursday, June 16th. We brought it to you when it happened. So they were walking around the capitol complex without authorization. Parading, that's a crime. Now, capitol police had warned Colbert's producers that they were restricted area, but they ignored the warning from police. They returned anyway with the help of several members of Congress. That would include Adam Schiff and Jake auchincloss. But the other day, the U.S. attorney for D.C., a Biden appointee called Matthew graves, said that they're allowed to walk with no charges. So here are the new rules. If you're a regime propagandist, you can do whatever you want. You can trespass in the capitol. You won't be charged by Joe Biden's prosecutor. But if you're an elderly cancer patient who votes the wrong way, you go to prison. Those are two standards. One justice system. That's corruption.
AOC, Ilhan Omar Get 'Arrested' With Imaginary Handcuffs
"Juicy AOC and Ilhan Omar get arrested in a roe V wade protest yesterday in Washington with fake handcuffs. They're so dopey, they pretended that they were handcuffs, so they put their hands, the cops are walking with them, kind of look at it and I'm like, what do you have your hands back there? We didn't handcuff you. Tucker Carlson had such a funny line last. There's a good chance for you to watch the show on Salem news channel. And you can see the video of AOC being escorted away as they sat down like dopes in the middle of the street to block the traffic. Because that's what a sitting congresswoman should do. Sit in the street to block traffic because you don't like a Supreme Court ruling, like the overturning of roe V wade. And so as she's being walked away, they don't have her in handcuffs. They don't need to put her in handcuffs. They're not going to restrain a congresswoman. Ilhan Omar and AOC are walking along with their hands behind their back as if handcuffed, but their imaginary
Caller: My Dream Republican Ticket for 2024 Is Trump-DeSantis
"My dream Republican ticket for 24. My dream would be if people could put some political egos personally goes aside. If I could be best for the country, Donald Trump or president Ron DeSantis is my spirit. I may not think that he has several benefits that Trump be the face of the economy foreign policy border. Stuff like that and then let the financial speed the pace that deals with the Washington swamp and the domestication. And I think they would make a heck of a team because I think. They're both on the same page. Policy wise they're poking. And maybe that is the play. Maybe when it's all said and done, Steve, that's the obvious choice. Trump and desantis. Desantis certainly has congressional, you know, he served in Congress before he ran for before he ran for governor of Florida. So maybe that's the play. We'll see how it will see how it plays out,
Walgreens Clerk Refuses to Sell Condoms to Couple, Due to His Faith
"So a couple went to Walgreens and they're doing their shopping and they wanted to go buy some birth control products. They wanted to purchase condoms. And so they bring all their stuff up to the front counter and the cashier is ringing up all their purchases and when it came time to ring up the condoms, the cashier said, oh, I can't, I can't sell these to you because it would violate my faith, would you like me to call a manager? And so the couple was horrified. They said they were appalled. And they said, yes, we want to speak to your manager. So the manager is called and the manager finishes out the transaction, and then the couple, they get on social media and they raise holy you know what. And everybody on social media wants the cashier fired. So some sort of a young kid. And I don't know what the kids religion is. But he said it was a violation of his religious beliefs to sell birth control products. Now, the question is, should this guy be fired? Walgreens has a policy, and the policy is very straightforward. As an employee of Walgreens, you do not have to do something that you would morally object to. So this young man did the right thing by calling the manager because that's the company policy. If you can't sell them the condoms, call somebody on the intercom system. I don't want please Larry. It's Larry today. I don't know what Larry's done, but Larry the white guy from the suburbs of Philly. I guess he lives in Philadelphia too. Larry, we've got a couple here on the island. They want to buy some condoms.
Sesame Place Apologizes After Facing Backlash Over Video
"Grace baker, there's a story from an amusement park called sesame place. Have you heard of this? I have, but I've never been there. I've never been there either. It's in Philadelphia. And so they had the costume characters, right? Yes. And so the costume characters they wander through the park and they wave at people and do that kind of thing. If Elmo there, I think. I know it is. I know that it's Sesame Street theme. So I guess I just assume he's there. So anyway, the video that's gone viral, there was a costume character and it was shaking hands and doing high 5s, but then the character put up the hand and said, you know, talk to the hand when a couple of black children wanted a hug from the character. It was just a sad video. It was horrible. It was terrible. I will say this. I mean, keep in mind the eyeballs are not real. So even though it looked like the character may have been looking, those were not those were fake eyeballs. There it is. Keep that in mind. And also the characters don't high 5 everybody, but they did high 5 several kids and then they no doubt about it. It's there. It is there. And it was like, what just happened? So now Sesame Street's being accused of being anti black. I will say, the character was rosita and she was high 5 on the other kids. But if rosita was white Larry from the suburbs, the inside the, you know, my question is what color is the person inside the suit? Oh no. That would be and they need to get to that pretty quick because it is getting nasty out there. Yeah, they've got like a whole social media mob coming after Sesame Street.
Caller: If People Really Support Trump, They Should Stop Runs
"Want to say something that I know ought to be obvious to everybody that is seems to be obvious with me, especially when you include people like no trumpers and Liz Cheney and fox's Tucker. This is a ploy by the Democrats. All they got to do is put it out and guess what? They don't even have to do the work. We're doing it to ourselves. We'll shoot ourselves in the foot. So Sally, you just think that Mike Pence hanging out for a couple of months in New Hampshire and South Carolina and Iowa. You think that's a Democrat ploy? Well, it's a good way to use it too, okay? Maybe he started out with honest appeal, okay? But once it gets promoted by everybody else, guess what? They found out, hey, that's a good boy. We won't even have to do the work ourselves. I see, I see. So you think this is so you really think there's really nothing to worry about here that if Trump says I'm running, everybody's going to jump in behind the president. No, it needs to be shot down now. If people are really supporting Trump, who has the skills and the ability to work within a national leader with business leaders and do the things that he was able to do because of his finances, he was able to stand up and not back down. And they're not many people who will do that. And he is the one who has proven that will do that. Yeah, look, I mean, I don't object to that. And again, if you've got somebody like a Nikki Haley or a Christian ohm, and they're really not running, but everybody's all the speculation. Just to get their name mentioned, yeah. But Sally, I'm going to tell you that some of these folks really are thinking about running, and we get the we hear from their staff. They send us notes behind the scenes, so there are people that are making moves.
Betsy DeVos: Dept. Of Education Should Not Exist
"So Betsy devos, the former secretary of education in the Trump administration, making some headlines she was speaking in Tampa over the weekend. And she made an announcement which should make all of us smile. She says that we need to abolish the Department of Education. Quote, I personally think the Department of Education should not exist. That's what devos said to the moms for liberty summit. And she has been a staunch supporter of private school vouchers. Well, look, I think this is all well and good. So why didn't she advocate for this while she had the platform? Why did Betsy devos not dismantle the Department of Education when she had the opportunity when she was secretary of the Department of Education? And what really bothers me about these Republicans and this was a huge complaint I had with the Trump administration as this is the most important issue. Dismantling the Department of Education and it wasn't even on the radar. It was not even on the radar. The teachers unions, all of it, needs to be dismantled. As a matter of fact, you had doctor misses First Lady Joe Biden, the woman who doesn't know how to pronounce bodega, but she's a professor. She spoke to the teachers union last week and said that the most important thing for the teachers union is to look out for the interest of the teachers, not the kids. Not the children. But the teachers. It's all politics.
Which Republicans Are Gearing up for a Potential Presidential Run?
"Us. So there's some interesting rumblings. I got a couple of emails over the weekend from some folks up in D.C. down in Florida. And they've been, they've been paying attention to some of the maneuvering of folks like Mike Pence, governor Christie nome, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, even senator Tim Scott over in South Carolina. Not so much Scott as the others that I just mentioned. But there are Republicans that are starting to maneuver themselves. For what could be presidential runs. Now, the general thought and the working theory within the Republican Party is that Trump is going to run. And that if Trump decides to run that the nomination is Trump's if he wants it. In other words, everybody else in the party would stand down if in fact he decides to jump into the race. Now you could say that's a good thing that's a bad thing and I can see the pros and the cons of both, but do we really want a long drawn out Republican primary where you've got all of these up and coming Republican superstars taking cheap shots at Donald Trump. There are also rumblings that establishment Republicans are gearing up and that someone like a Liz Cheney could enter the race. A Liz Cheney who, by the way, is trailing her opponent in her congressional race in Wyoming by what 20 points. But they're saying she might jump into the race and it might be that Mike Pence is going to be the establishment guy. Pompeo has been mentioned as a choice, but I don't think he's ready to jump in yet. And I think a lot of these folks are going to wait and see what Trump does, but people are already starting to make moves.
Greenwood Police: The Real Hero Was Citizen Who Stopped Shooter
"Now we've got some we've got some audio we will play and we will get to from the police department. Again, this is cut number 7. But I'm going to tell you the real hero of the day is the citizen that was lawfully carrying a firearm in that food court and was able to stop the shooter almost as soon as he began. What can you tell us about him? I'm sure you want to tell us his name that'd be great, but I'm sure I can tell you that he's a 22 year old mill from Bartholomew county. And that is all that I can release at this time. There you go. 22 year old young man. Great American patriot. You know, as interesting, I posted this on the Twitter feed yesterday. And it was one of those things that goes viral. Every now and again, we have some viral stuff, and this one had like down to tens of thousands of people weighing in on it. And a lot of these woke evangelicals. These never Trump Christians were very offended that I would call this guy a good Samaritan. And one of the people in particular said a good Samaritan would not go and shoot people. No, that's not about shooting people. It's about protecting people. And by the way, that's what the good Samaritan did.
Shout out to the 22-Year-Old Who Saved Lives in Indiana
"This good Samaritan over an over in Indiana, what a what a great story and it has a very happy ending thanks to a gentleman, a young man who was engaging his Second Amendment rights. The story broke yesterday, we've got the peace up on our website. Our news guys all over this. But now we know that a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun in the food court of the Greenwood park mall that's near Indianapolis. Happened around 6 o'clock 6 o'clock last night, when some guy opens fire, several people were killed, others were injured, and you can imagine it could have been much, much worse, had it not been for a young man we believe to be in his 20s. Who pulled out his handgun, and by the way, in Indiana, they have concealed carry. And he pulled out his gun, and he took out the bad guy. And am I estimation that makes him a hero? And we need more of this in America.
Adam Carolla: Gavin Newsom Is a Sociopath
"Adam Carolla was on Tucker Carlson show last night. Responding. It's insane that he's talking about freedom. The guy shut down churches. He shut down beaches. He shut down outdoor dining gas 7 bucks a gallon. He shut down schools. He had mask mandates. My kid went to school but had to eat outside. He had to eat lunch outside even during a rainstorm because they wouldn't let them into the cafeteria. They arrested a guy who was in the Santa Monica bay paddle boarding alone because they shut the beaches down and this dictator is talking about freedom. It's so insane. But kind of a bigger picture. And I think we're on the same page here, Tucker. California votes for this guy. Now, this guy makes my skin crawl. He's a sociopath, and there's something clearly wrong with him. Like I bet. Hats hate him because they can sense what he is. But there's something about California. It's like Nancy Pelosi, Newsom, Adam Schiff. These are some of the worst people on the planet. What's up with people in California? You should, they're repugnant people. I know they're in your party, but they're horrible people. Why are you voting for them? Now, that's how we all feel, but we're not 300 and whatever million Americans. You wait and see. Gavin Newsom is going to be the nominee, and you better keep an eye on him. You better keep he fits a checks every box. It's exactly he's exactly what the Democrats are going to need. To beat back a Republican challenge in 2024.
How the Environmentalists Are Destroying the Planet
"I spoke to you yesterday about the environmentalists crushing of the people of Sri Lanka. The attempt is going on in the Netherlands, as you know. The Netherlands whose emission of carbon dioxide or whatever else fertilizer or Cal tooting produces is so negligible in the scheme of the earth as to be ludicrous and crossing the line from ludicrous into evil. What the Netherlands government is attempting to do to its own people and to the world since the Netherlands is the second greatest exporter. Of what is it a food generally? Agricultural products. Tucker Carlson reported last night on Ghana, which we visited commented. It was on its way to some degree of prosperity, relative to other West African or African countries. And now is a basket case all because of the greens. I always think when will people awaken to the existential threat that the left poses to humanity?

"The technique is to always bring it back to the narrative the narrative is, is they versus you. He mentions fentanyl in that discourse. You know, the Ohio Senate candidate, JD Vance, indicated or suggested that Joe Biden actually wanted fentanyl to come into the country so that it would kill maga voters. Is this an idea that Carlson has embraced? Absolutely, in some ways, he's the popularizer of that idea, and Vance, I would say more than being a Trump candidate, Vance is a Carlson candidate. If you watch his stump speech as they're practically ripped from Tucker Carlson's show, and it's one reason why Carlson fought so hard behind the scenes to get Trump's endorsement for events, because if vans lost the nomination for the Senate in his party, it would be a blow to Carlson as well. His power influence. You know, what they want you to think of is this idea that Joe Biden or Democrats or the cabal, the elite. Literally have a plan where they're opening their borders so that caravan migrants from Guatemala can march into America with backpacks full of fentanyl to kill Americans. That's like the image that this redder conjures. Fentanyl was a deadly problem. It's bad. And of course, there are lots of very earnest policymakers and think tank people and activists who want to do something about crisis who have bills and white papers. But you can't build a top rated show on cable by being earnest. There has to be a bad guy. I wanted to return to something that we talked about earlier. And that was Tucker Carlson's favorable comments about Putin right before the Ukrainian invasion. Is Carlson a supporter of Vladimir Putin still? I don't think he would characterize himself as a supporter of Putin. I think he would say that the war is a mistake and that by his view, it doesn't advance American interests, but you know, if you look at his romance, Victor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary. You know, why does Carlson lionize Orban who has tried to shut down a free press? He's handed out huge amounts of government assets to cronies. There's a lot of corruption in that government. There's less and less freedom there. Plus Orban is in bed. With China, which is a big investor in his country. Why would Carlson sort of lionize this guy? And I think it's to show the audience as to give the audience the contrast that Carlson is trying to create..

"Back to talk more after this break. I'm Dave Davies, and this is fresh air. Reveal the economic patterns all around us. While you swipe right and left, understand money better with the indicator, one of NPR's daily podcasts. More voices, all ears, NPR podcasts. We're speaking with New York Times political and investigative reporter Nicholas confessore. He recently wrote a series of articles about the life views and influence of Fox News host Tucker Carlson. He writes that Carlson has constructed what may be the most racist show in the history of cable news and by some measures the most successful. The articles titled America nationalists are available on the times website. I wanted to listen to a bit of Tucker Carlson talking about Vladimir Putin and this was in February right before the invasion of Ukraine. Good.

"It's pretty much anybody who's in the news that day for whatever reason. And his great skill as a broadcaster, among others, is that he can always take whatever's happening that day. And make it part of his narrative of the ruling class. If someone's talking about making pot legal, he goes on the air and says that the ruling class is trying to legalize pot because applying population is a good population. So it doesn't matter what the story is. It always gets right back into the narrative of the day versus you. How is he characterized the protest that followed the killing of George Floyd? Well, these protests, as you know, were mostly peaceful and in places of violent. And what Carlson has done and he isn't unique on this on the right. But he has taken a movement that started from Americans who said that maybe it's a bad thing when a black person or the broken taillight ends up on the pavement dead. And he made them a threat to American civilization, perhaps one of the greatest threats to American civilization. And when people went out in the street and protested, he would say they are coming for you. They you. They, you. And it's pretty clear what he meant by that, of course, when he got in hot water for that statement. Fox said, no, no, no, he was being misinterpreted. But come on. You can listen to the show and you understand the emotional impact. Of the show and what words actually mean when people are listening to them. Yeah. A lot of it's about fear. Yeah, you know, I talked to one former Fox employee about the programming strategy on Carlson's show and across it or more broadly. And what he said, I'm going to paraphrase, is anger gets people to tune in and stay locked onto the network. Keep their TVs on. But what's better than anger,.

"And wrong facts and misleading statements on the show. You could pick almost any show and find one. But more importantly, the things that we honed in on to back up our claim, and it's a big one that this may be the most racist show in the history of cable news. Was a close look that my colleagues anchored on the graphics desk of The New York Times. Looking at every single episode of the show, through the end of last year. That's a lot of work. It's a lot of watching Tucker Carlson and reading transcripts of the show. And what we found was that the elements that he borrows and sands down from the far right. Are not just kind of isolated incidents on the show, or things he pops into here and there. They are a constant theme, a drum beat. Spanning hundreds of episodes of the show, hundreds of segments. And I'll give you one example, which we can come back to. This idea of replacement theory you've probably heard about it, and even if you're not paying much attention to cable news, you probably recall that last spring, he got in some hot water for saying, yeah, the elites in this country are trying to replace Americans with obedient people from what he called the third world. Now that is a direct borrowing of language and concept from white nationalists and not just conservatives. I'm talking about people who are neo Nazis, open nativists, white nationalists. People who get together in dark corners of the Internet mostly and propound theories about how a cabal of elites sometimes Jews, sometimes broader, are trying to replace Americans. Now, that theme hadn't just popped up on the show last April, a version of it has been present in 400 plus episodes of the show. I noted that, and I wanted to play a Montage from part three of your series, which is kind of an interactive thing that's available on the website in which you kind of map the shows and how often certain themes. Occur, and this is one in which you have, this is a Montage of excerpts of shows in which he propounds the idea that elites and Democrats want to increase immigration to get them more voters. Let's listen. They can embrace the issues of the middle class cares about, or they can import an entirely new electorate from the third world and change the demographics of the U.S. so completely. They'll never lose again. Democrats know if they import enough new voters, they'll be able to run the country forever. Dramatic demographic chain means many Americans don't recognize where they grew up. As with the illegal immigration, the long-term agenda of refugee resettlement is to bring in future democratic voters. Illegal immigrants are the key to their power. The point is to import as many new democratic voters as possible. The whole point of their immigration policy is to ensure political control replace the population, this policy is called the great replacement, the replacement of legacy Americans with more obedient people from faraway countries. Right, that's excerpts of 8 different episodes of Tucker Carlson tonight. That theme, that message appeared in more than 400 shows..

"Overcoming that. On the show, my guests are amazing people, who are forces for good in the world around them and live a life of transformation. My guest today she does just that. Today, Christine Carlson and I discuss how to reveal the authentic you. If you want to understand how your circumstances don't make or break you, they reveal you and learn how to choose to be better over better when changes happen, so that you can go through change with grace, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this is the show for you. Christine Carlson is co author with her late husband, doctor Richard Carlson of The New York Times bestselling don't sweat the small stuff books. She has featured this fall is the subject of a biopic lifetime movie based on her book, heartbroken, open. A true story of coming alive again after profound loss. I am so thrilled to say Christine welcome to life, transformation radio. Well, hey there, rob thank you so much for having me on. Absolutely. Glad to have you here. You know, it's interesting. We were talking before we started recording, and I'm like, okay, I don't want to talk about this, and I don't want to talk about this. It's like, you know, and it's so funny how the universe is because here, you know, you talk about loss and grief and stuff like that. And I just got off the phone or FaceTime with my father, whose 90 years old and is in hospice and is just refusing to die. He just will not. He just wants to live, and there's not a logical explanation of why he's alive and so it makes for an interesting time because you want to have him pass peacefully, and you want him to be alive, but his life is really not a life that I would want for anybody because he just kind of exists. Yeah, I mean, I think that's really it's tempting for us..

"It's going to affect has the possibility of affecting lots of other people and we're arguing. Covert passports here but having gone to portugal you know. I didn't need a passport per se. But i did have to show a certificate that i'd had doubled united show negative test. I had to show negative just before i came back. I had to show a negative test. Two days. After i came back from our which i'm perfectly willing to do but it would be easier if i had a little card. That said i'd had the two vaccines rather than carrying around these vapors from the nhs with a barcode on it but that's the calls. Let's talk about this. Let's talk about this concept the pressure that you brought up the nfl not saying to play. You have to have it. But as you say the consequences of not having the vaccination and then things are playing out which forces the to forfeit games and the pressure. Therefore that's going to be put on from all of that contemporaries out. Of course everybody else in the organization is that going to ultimately become the deciding factor that you think those. Let's look at the numbers right now. Twenty percent as of today recording. This approximately twenty percent haven't had the vaccine. Do you think that by the time we get to mid season and maybe a couple of these situations that played out. That number will be up to the high nineties. Is apple going to work. But i think i think it probably will. I mean what the nfl doesn't want is playing in front of empty stadium like they did last year movie games around during the week like they did last year. I think they're they're kind of saying we're going to have a normal season whether you guys like it or not and you're going to have to do what is necessary to give us a normal season now there are situations where you could test positive having been vaccinated yet trade. It's it's a small percentage but it happens. You might not be contagious at that point. You're probably going to be a symptomatic And people being back they'd have had major problems more with except for very few in terms of having caught quebec then serious symptoms. But it's it's such. It's such a minefield of labor law employment law. Like i said the commissioner probably has in in the Cba the right to do this. He's got the right. You almost anything he wants. You know by the cba. The teams Have obviously decided that they're going to go. Go with this with this. Pre this policy might get a wrap up by raising a gloss to two plays that we've lost since again since you and i lost caught up. I know that dementia patron mccollum earlier on. Let's get out another plug patriotic dot com slash mike. Fm a lot more studies from carlson on that. I know you've addressed an talked about the mall within your call him but obviously not on the pod. So let's talk about by alex gibson. Greg knapp yeah. Greg knapp fifty eight. He got hit by a car while he was riding his bicycle. at home and died and it really shocked. I'd never met him or anything. But from what i gather. He was incredibly well liked and his his coaching. History would bear out he came out of sacramento state as a player and he hung around the nfl for a couple years of quarterback and then as a coach i think he coast verner hip ler the german tight end who played for the chargers briefly and was in nfl europe but he had a long spell with the with the forty niners in the ninety s and into the twenty seven with jeff garcia briefly. You know working his way up from my quality control all the way to offensive coordinator and then went to atlanta in the michael vickers and had some success with mike vick and then he had a lot of years where he wasn't so successful. Remain oakland and seattle and matching wilson. Pre wilson seattle like. That's pretty wilson seattle but he wound up as a quarterback coach in denver when payton was there and then three years in atlanta with matt ryan. So that's a pretty easy gig. When you're peyton manning's quarterback coach you know gays was the offense coordinator. Look what it did for gazes reputation for and nap. Napa went from there to atlanta ryan's had had really good year last year. People ignore that because it wasn't a very good team and ryan had a pretty good year and he was coaching with the jets. As as a kind of you know without portfolio passing game coordinator kind of thing so he won't be obviously coaching with the jets now. But you know it's funny that his biggest success was first with running kind of quarterbacks in them with pocket pocket. Guys diametric opposites and i remember criticizing him like crazy both of his spells in oakland. And you know he got fired from both of them as well connected. Is that what you're suggesting right. I don't think so but you know but it's one of the it made me think that it's one of those things where you know we don't know these people personally and we're not intimately involved with all the stuff that goes on in the coaching room. The tape room and on the sidelines. So sometimes our criticism can seem a lot to To blase or author. Alice gibbs was another story because again i didn't know him but my criticism of gibbs was echoed so i felt justified by by an nfl. Europe line coach. I won't i won't go into names. But his team get lineman from the broncos and a couple of them became very very good players in the nfl lexus. Ben hamilton were both pro bowl offensive lineman but he told me that the broncos would call up jack now we know who the line coaches go and figure it out but and complain that he wasn't teaching the denver system. Blocking alex. gibbs was the master of the zone blocking run. And you think of all those thousand yard rushers that mike shanahan used to roll out air year some sixth row landis gerry anderson know terrell davis You know and get a thousand yards. That was all based on the zone. Blocking that alex gibbs taught ryan the runner had to be able to make one cut and go see where that whole was developing because it could be anywhere on the line because zone blocking. Is everybody pushing in one direction. And then finding the hawks right but what what. He didn't like about gibbs's blocking what i hated about. It was that they would chop bach guys from the back. And so if you're a center say and your zone blocking and the defensive tackle on your inside shoulder follows the zone down the lies. He's moving to. You're right you just take him out at the knees from behind. And that's a great way of breaking guys knees constantly and this line coach said to me. I've got guys here. Who are taking one last. Shot at the nfl. Young kids haven't been drafted guys who've been hung around for a couple of years without a chance. I'm not going to get. I'm not going to hurt some guy on another team. Who's doing that in for ten thousand dollars or whatever. They're being played paid..

Well it has been for hundreds of years. But some of some of their neighbors korea's the korea's both koreas china and other asian countries say the flag is a reminder of japan's wartime atrocities and is comparable to the nazi swastika and that's why the flag is created anger at the olympics before the games began some of the host nation's neighbors call it called for it to be banned during the games. They're actually to rising sun flags associated with japan. One is Just the white background with a red circle red disk. Nobody has a problem with that one but the other one is the one that causes trouble for some people. It has a red disc but it is surrounded by sixteen. Raise that extend outward. This one is led to vehement protests and again both of them have been for centuries and then there's this and algerian athlete was sent home thankfully from the tokyo olympics after he refused to face an israeli opponent. It says surveillance without borders the traffic shaping loophole and why it matters. There's a lot of articles out there. I don't know this woman don't know politics. I don't care but explains it quite well. How the nsa is getting around this constitutional ban on spying on american citizens to potentially spy on you. And that's why. I'm not willing to throw out the tucker. Carlson piece where he says he's being spied on by the nsa and i'm not willing to discard what sebastian gorka jisr said like the medium. Like just ignore them. That you crazies really. You know spy gate sounded crazy at one point. Two and total turned out to be real here quote from this piece this report. They're talking about a report that was done on. This describes a novel more disturbing set of risks as a technical matter the. Nsa does not have to wait for domestic communications to naturally turn up overseas abroad. In fact the nsa has technical methods that can be used to deliberately reroute internet communications with this kicker. The nsa uses the term traffic shaping to describe any technical means to deliberately reroute internet traffic to location. That is better suited. Operationally surveillance since it's hard to intercept yemen's international communications from inside yemen itself. The agency might try to shape the traffic show it so it passes through communication cables located on friendlier territory. Think of it as diverting part of a river to a location from which it's easier or more legal to catch a fish folks again. How is this not a front page story. We know the technique exists gorkhas. Now alleging that a major reporter. I know who it is. This is a serious person is about to break. A story about traffic shaping being used not to target yemen or fish in yemen but to target us citizens on us soil by diverting their traffic overseas where they can air quotes legally hoover. Add up vacuum it up and use it later on folks. I can't emphasize to you enough. That the key distinguishing component named three of them yesterday but the most important component of a free constitutional republic in contrast to a socialist totalitarian regime. Where you have no big are god given rights. They key distinction. Don't ever forget. This is the line distinction between the private and public self in a truly free constitutional republic. Like we're supposed to have you are supposed to be free in your private self to communicate to live your life to engage in activities to provide services to work. You are free to do that without government interference you have a bill of rights that protects you. The government can interfere and take your liberty by conditions have to be met. They have to provide some kind of a warrant that shows probable cause you committed a crime and infringed on the private civil liberties of others if the government is allowed to invade the private self and read sebastian. Gorka as email. Steve bannon's emails tucker carlson's emails with no warrant. No evidence of probable cause whatsoever folks. There is zero distinction between us and italian totalitarian regime. There's no difference. The public private distinction is what matters. That's it that is the most important thing this is a big story and we're not going to let it go and my sources are telling me don't discard it. I can't with one hundred percents certainty. Tell you tucker. Carlson story is true. I can however tell you the evidence. He's provided the reading of his own emails which he is not personally disclosed indicates that somebody's lying either tucker carlson. Or the nsa. And if i'm a batman.

When he's doing this weekly podcast with Bill where he says, we shouldn't romanticize every single time in NBA player speaks out. Not every time. Somebody speaks out. And complains is, you know, this show of power that we as a media should remain to size. I totally agree with it. I would just say the corollary to that is we shouldn't romanticize every time a GM makes a trade that tears A-Team apart as brilliant move, just automatically. Well, that's a great. You know, who cares about the feelings of the people? It's it was a great tactical move. We should romanticize that either in this goes both ways. And that goes about what I'm saying about the way we talk about players, you know, in talk about GM, sorry, David topic number three Tucker Carlson doesn't need any help falling backward off, the high dive. But last week the watchdogs over at media matters. Unearth audio clips the Carlson made between two thousand six and two thousand eleven on the Bubba the love sponge show. And I'm making giant air quotes here morning radio along with Opie and Anthony and Mankato that I never actually. Heard all I heard about was the controversy that was generated by the show. But you at your word what above us pals. So I think we could do this quickly. Because this to me is an example of where a semi respectable. And I am making air quotes. Once again around the word semi semi respectable person goes on a morning radio show and tries to hang with the host. And they get in trouble because they soon learn that whatever the host is doing is not okay outside the confines of the morning radio show. Do you agree? Yes. Okay. And of segment. No. I'm the most the posted, Dory's example. I founded this. I'm sure there are so many. I mean, Don, everything Donald Trump said on the stern show would probably qualify. Yeah.
