"I heart radio goes one on one with Carlos Santana to reflect on what a big influence Ronnie Eiseley was on him, You know, just give you a little reference. When the Beatles came here at the gallery show and 63, they came to America singing, twisted shout. And runny. Eisley was already the first Michael Jackson worldwide with twist and shout. So that's how important here keep listening to I heart radio for more Carlos Santana and all your favorite artists. Of what I do. Very seriously. Right. So I look at myself as a educator. So you come to me to show you what I know. That makes sense. Um, So with that in mind is, um I'll give an example. So when I started training budgets, who the the instructor that I started under, Um what's a Bluebell? That's one of the highest ranking people. The wearing Arizona at the time. Wow. There was just not a lot of G two. I mean, You know, we also the UFC back in 1993, you know, um, but it took the bond for jujitsu to grow it into the long for just to get to Arizona. To get to Tucson and get to a point where somebody was, uh, confident of or had sufficient. People. That would say Yeah. You know what I'll pay due to come and train, you know. Back in the deal. So back in day when I started like I said, it was such a small pool of people that were practising jujitsu and everything. Everybody was so, uh, influenced by Mm. Me and you and and makes martial arts and in HB as he was called back then in the UFC. That it was two things when you when you first walked in through the door, one of the first things that people would ask you. It's like Oh, when, when, When are you fighting when you want to fight? And the second question work? Yeah, And the second thing is like instructor would walk in and be like Oh, big dude. Huh? Cool. Have somebody like spar with And and I think those are those are too crazy. Uh, ideas that you know, are not around anymore, like people shake their heads. But, you know, hearing the stories, and the reason for that is Um, number one. I'm coming to learn without having the stress of like, already been booked in a card. Six months from now. Um, but but at the same time, I think like a really good developed instructor. It doesn't really look at a students as training partners. Some will eventually develop into training partners. But they're your students, you know, end with the students. You have to guide them. And their students that have sufficient knowledge to practice. Um even deviate from what you're teaching, you know, based on what they're already pursuing their own private time, with so much information out there on the Internet. But there's those guys that just don't have the funds. The fund Foundation, right. You know, those are the guys that you have to pull in and say, Okay, you guys don't get to spar because you're going to do a lot of nothing. And you're going to be number one. Because you're going to get hurt. You're going to develop an ego, which is right, which is detrimental to training. Um and number three, Um, you're not growing as a practitioner. So those are the guys. They sometimes you got to sit down. And, uh, kind of guide him a little bit more, you know? Mm. You know, it's funny because I had one of my black belt over for lunch right now, and we're talking about another student, and he was like, man someone so he's so calm. And he's like, how do you get it? How'd you get him to calm him down? And it's that simple. I used to tap for him and the because this guy was super tough man. You would catch him something. You was the number he wouldn't tap. He would wiggle Poppet latest arm pop until got out. You would catch him in a choke and he would just grind his teeth until your grips got sword and And you would let go. You know that kind of deal. And then so we started dealing with this guys. I started tapping for him. So he'll be in mid role, you know, and you would catch him something I would say tap. He would look at me, Coach. I didn't tap and I said no, but you don't have an answer for what he's doing. Do you be like, Well? No. And I said, Okay, then tap. Oh, wow! Figure it out, have an answer for what he's doing. So that toughness is not an answer, You know, right? And that helps because that prevents his injury prevents prevents an injury. But it also like later on what he did is that he would come back and say, well, Tired. He was stopping my matches from this position. And you show me what I'm missing here. Yeah, Absolutely. A lot of times. You want to show them They're like, Sure, you know, Watch me be this tough. Fighter, you know, and that's where the eagle comes. Yeah, I think that's where the problem is because I try to push it as a law enforcement. Um Agencies to say Hey, you know, get this type of training. Get some type of training, right? Yeah, uh, But you have that ego right as long enforcement they come in. And yeah, it's up well and it but it's an ego that is that is a grown, um, under Under realistic circumstances, right, for example. Um You get this young guys come in from the field and everybody starts telling stories, and they're like, uh, got in a fight today, right? And you're like, No, I was there. That was not to fight the guy tensed up. Or he pulled away. You dumped them, And then you put them back in handcuffs or you you were able to restrain him. And then that's it, you know, or this guy through, you know, I Defensive resistance elbow. You got to throw some strikes, and then you put him in handcuffs, and that's it. That is not a fight. You know that that is resisting. But ultimately, a real fight is, um.

Baseball Tonight with Buster Olney
MLB Playoffs Preview
"Okay. Let's get to the American theories start today obviously the headliner is the the series I'm going to be lucky enough to do starting at seven o'clock. Tonight we've got the Indians playing host to the Yankees you got Shane Bieber Garrett Cole a good old fashioned. Of Two aces one guy you know the best pitcher on the planet two years ago versus Shane Bieber's the best pitcher on the planet this year, what are you expecting in this series? Yeah. Mean this is going to be one of the best games of the entire postseason. I suspect you know what an unbelievable matchup shame bieber won. The MLB pitching triple crown wins the are strikeouts I gotta do that since Johan Santana and two, thousand six, and he not even be the most dominant picture in this game was Garrett Cole is pretty good. I looked up any postseason series game would match up and I might have missed one but the last. Game. One. Battle with a lower co by the area that I found was two thousand fourteen Clayton Kershaw as eerie won the MVP versus Adam wainwright who had a two three yards that year. So there's been some great ones we had Sherzer Colin game the world series last year, but this is just Terrific game one matchup for me the key thing in this series, and in this game, tonight is going to be how clean they play and I gotta say having watched the Yankees a lot this year they have not performed well on defense I was looking at defensive runs saved and there's no perfect measure of defensive play but the Indians were tied for second best in the regular season defensive run save they have an excellent defensive team Garrett Cole was talking about yesterday how the the Indians don't make mistakes in on the other hand. The Yankee seem to make a lot of mistakes the key guy for me in this series, labor. Taurus who has not had a good season he is not played well, defensively what about for you just some other factor that's jumping out of you. Yeah. I wasn't good point on the defense I watch Erin Moods game session the other day Friday or Saturday they made a bunch of airs and the look on his face was just discussed. Because that's been a problem on your ankles. Yeah. Obviously, it's the Cleveland offense. Are they going to be able to generate enough runs and I'm intrigued because yet they had one of the lower homerun rates in the majors. The Yankees allow the most home runs of any playoff team. You Know Garrett call had some of those homerun issues you know in the middle of the season not so much as last couple starts, but the Yankees do give up run so. That's to me. CLEVELAND'S GONNA have to figure out a way to knock it few the fence Jose Ramirez of course has been red hot Carlos Santana, great regular season, but he's heated up a little bit the last couple of weeks. So that's the key can Cleveland hit any home runs off the New York pitching and can the Yankees hit on the road the numbers the road splits for the Yankees this year are shocking. Great. Point. In fact, we had a note saying Sam. Millard this one of the twenty largest home roads blitz I. Forget how far he went back. This was history X. number of years but the twenty largest. Were Colorado Rockies, teams, and the other was the two thousand twenty so that yeah. Huge toll roads blitz this year. The. White Sox and Oakland Plankton a Lucas G Lido the obvious pick for the white sox start in Oakland Hey seuss Lazaro gets the start the young left-hander for the Oakland athletics we had serling the podcast yesterday and she mentioned the white sox fourteen in our game started by left-handers Lazardo left-hander. So I was a little bit surprised but maybe that's kind of where Oakland is with their rotation right now. Now, they don't have a clear number one I was surprised because Lazaros last appearance was actually in relief so I thought they might use them out of the end. This could be kind of a bullpen series for Bob Melvin right buster they had the lowest era In relief many team you know really deep bullpen saw even the Lazardo starting I would not expect him to go deep into this game maybe even just one time through the rotation.

But Why: A Podcast for Curious Kids
'Do Skunks Like How They Smell?' And Other Silly Questions
"We'll start out with a question from Lilly she asks. Why do pickles and cactuses like each other? I will admit lily. I've never thought about the fact that pickles kind of resemble some CACTI but now that you mention it they do and if you've ever picked a cucumber straight from the garden you might know that some varieties of cucumber have little spikes on them just like a cactus. If you're wondering. Pickles are cucumbers that have been pickled in vinegar brine. You can make other kinds of pickled vegetables too but let's just keep it simple and assume lillies talking about pickled cucumbers to make things even more confusing. There's actually a cactus called cucumber. Cactus and I think that cactus looks less like a cucumber than some other kinds of cactus but back to the question cucumber and CACTUS are both plants. But they're in different plant families. They're not very closely related. Cucumbers are in the Gourd family related to things like pumpkins squash and watermelon CACTI. That's the plural of CACTUS. Cacti are succulents plants that store water not all succulents are CACTI. But that's the family there in so I guess the fact that both of these plants look of alike is random but there are actually in nature a lot of reasons that things that aren't related lookalike. Sometimes it's because there are patterns that repeat through nature and we see them in all kinds of objects. Another reason is something called convergent evolution. We're different organisms like plants or animals develop similar traits similar. Looks or ways of doing things even though they're not related often it's because they have had to adapt to similar environments and they both did it in the most effective and efficient way even though they were doing it separately. I don't know if that's what's happening with pickles. Cacti but I think it could be. I'm GONNA keep thinking about this and maybe we can circle back around to it in a future episode. If we find out anything interesting at any rate really good observation lily. Hi My name is Jesse. I live in Charlottesville Vermont Annoying Sheldon I would like to know what our googlers made out of you declan. Don't tell anyone but I actually don't think your question is all that gross. It's always good to know what's in your body right. Put simply buggers are just dried or congealed snot. So what's not? Snot is more politely and scientifically known as Mucus Producing Mucus. Is One of the ways. Your body stays healthy. Your body produces a leader of mucus every day in your nose your sinuses and your digestive tract mucus sticky and it helps to keep all the dirt dust and pollen out of your lungs so the mucus in your nose likes to hang around and stick to the little hairs on the inside of each nostril. That's how it can catch some of that dust and dirt that you're breathing in so you don't get it deeper into your body and sometimes that Mucus Kinda dries up there and it forms boogers. Mostly it's okay to just leave the boogers alone. You know but if you need to get rid of them user tissue. Here's a question from Bennett. Employers now eleven San Carlos Santana California in my question is. How do you fish C. Underwater without goggles? Our answer comes from Joe Blasi of the New England aquarium in Boston so animals have. Is that our builds in a way that is best for their environment. So your eyes designed to see an air. And that's the way that they work best so with you. Swim underwater with no goggles. Your is can't see really well so what happens when you put on goggles. There's a little teeny tiny bit of air. That's trapped in the goggles with your eyes so you can still see underwater. Now Fish. Don't need goggles. Because there is designed to work under water they still have the same parts that you do. There's a cornea an iris and pupil The way that the light gets in and bounces around. And then transmits a signal to their brain so they can see things. I'm and some fish can actually see really well considering the refresh But there is designed to work much better in a water environment rather than an Air Environment. One of the reasons that humans blink is to keep our eyes wet so do fish need to blink at all. They don't fish. Don't have eyelids blinking necessary. Whoa fish don't have eyelids cool now onto skunks hi. My name is enchanted. Seven years old. I live in Melbourne California. My question is like the smell of themselves. That's a good question and we found just the right person to answer it. Mary Holland is a naturalist and she was actually the very first guest on. But why more than three years ago discounts like the smell themselves as often as I've encountered skunks and even been spray by one. It has never occurred to me to wonder how the smell affects the skunk. I've always been more concerned with how it affects me. According to Dr Jerry. Tegu an expert on skunks and head of the Dragoon Institute for the betterment of skunks and skunk reputations skunks. Do not enjoy the smell of their own spray or the spray of other skunks. Skunks rarely spray each other or other animals. They only have a certain amount of spray inside them and once it's all used up. They must go several days without it while their body manufacturers more during this time they are defenceless so they only spray another animal. If they are seriously threatened. So if you don't WANNA get sprayed. Mary says it's best not to scare a skunk. They don't want to spray you. Prior to spraying a skunk will give ample warning to its enemy by stamping his front feet. If this is ignored then skunk will spray as a last defense when Scott Spray. They rarely get any on themselves though. They can tolerate their own smell. They do not appreciate getting it in the face and is from another skunk. A Scott. Sense of smell is even stronger than humans so if anything the skunk suffers more than anyone who has had the misfortune of being sprayed if a skunk does encounter counter the spray of another skunk. It will rub its face in the dirt sneeze or try to groom itself to get rid of the sprays odor

MLB All-Star Game starters election begins Wednesday at noon
"I did not know that there was an all star selection process until i happen to listen to multiple game so this is kinda my evening routine now i loved to listen to games on the radio and since i only get a limited number of games on my t._v. package i can get them all on the radio when i skip around so i listened to astros pirates listen to red sox white sox last night i spent some time listening to dodgers diamondbacks and every single game that i tuned into they mentioned the starters election which begins today at noon eastern time and runs through thursday afternoon so it's only twenty eight hours that's your entire window but you get to pick the starters for the upcoming all star game it's called the starters election the all-star starters election that's quite a hashtag set us up almost all of your characters on twitter so the ballot will go live either on m._l._b. dot com or you can google it simply the partnership with google maybe that's why they changed the process because they needed something unique for their partnership with google so you get and it doesn't matter how many votes the players got to this point all of that gets thrown out the window and they're on a clean slate so for instance first base in the american league luke void carlos santana c._j. krone for the twins you get to pick and it doesn't matter that voight had the most number of votes to get to this point nationally freddy freeman josh bell anthony rizzo doesn't matter that that freeman had two point two million votes he's only going to be the starter if he gets elected now if it dawned on me we already see this as a bit of a popularity contest right so gary sanchez catcher in the american league had double the number of votes of the next guy on the list james mckenna the white sox double the number of votes so it seems to reason if he's already gotten that many votes that if most of those people then show up at the the election at the bow doors the ballot box then he's gonna end up winning anyway so i'm i don't know it feels redundant but maybe that's just me so if you want to be part of the all-star starters election process you now get the chance to pick the starters and the game of course is coming up at progressive field in cleveland a couple of weeks from now let's just just shy of two
