"Of all, take number three. The guardians already won the Francisco Lindor trade, make your case. Well, there are any number of reasons why the guardians, with the number 27 payroll in the sport or atop their division. But at the very top of that list, is the absolute hall that they received for, Francisco Lindor. As a reminder, it was Lindor entering a contract here, right? Plus Carlos Carrasco, for Ahmed Rosario, Andre Simone, and two more developmental minor leaguers. So the mets have received 6.3 war from Lindor and Carrasco this season. And for those 6.3 war, they're paying that tandem $46 million. The guardians, meanwhile, have received 8 and a half four from Jimenez and Rosario. They're paying them a combined 5 and a half $1 million. Rosario is on the books for one more year and Jimenez for four more years. Now, it has been well established on this podcast that you do not believe I'm good at math and the reason for that is because I predict that Albert Pujols would get to 715 home runs this season. However, you don't have to be a match elite to decide that by the way that we measure these things in the industry. So far to me, it looks like Chris antonetti has made out like a bandit. Andre Jimenez is really good. Really good. I will give you that. And the fact that there were a number of shortstops on the free agent market last year that there were going to be a number of short stops on the free agent market this year. One could make the argument that giving up the hall of talent and then paying Francisco Lindor $340 million. It's not the most efficient thing that the New York mets could do. I'll be honest, I don't care about efficiency, right now. Because for all of the talk of the braves dynasty for all the good feelings about taking three out of four and beating Jake degrom like they did on Thursday. The mets still lead the national league east by three and a half games. Don't get me wrong, but the braves are very, very good. The mets are the ones who not only have better record than them, but a better record than the Yankees, the mets are the ones who are half game back of Houston for the second best record of baseball, the mets are the ones scoring the fourth most runs in the game and allowing the fourth fewest in this seeming moment of burying New York baseball teams, let us not make one mistake, let alone two, the New York Yankees are going to be fine. The mets are really good. The sky isn't falling. Baseball is hard, playoffs are random, and we all die. Like that's my whole approach to this entire sport that we love, but sometimes we get a little obsessed over and in a little reactionary and a little hot takey right there. And I as much as perhaps anyone on the network is susceptible to those overreactions. All that I'm saying, I don't even disagree with the word that you said. I don't think that Francisco Lindor has by any means been a boss the way that it may have appeared a year ago. And Carlos Carrasco is giving them some good inning this year. But I am saying merely is that by the way that we evaluate these things. But the way that we measure these things, when antonetti puts that information that I just provided on a spreadsheet and send it up to his boss, he'll say you did a job well done. When you consider that team and the Met, they're operating in two very different silos and would say that my traditional measure, like very, very literally the guardians have won this trade, at least for my money. Fair, reasonable war agrees with you. I think the value of having Francisco Lindor of having emotional heft coming with a new owner and Steve Cohen and getting buy in from fans. It's impossible to measure. I think it's very real, though. And for a fan base that has been as tortured as New York mets fans have been some of that external some of that self guided and motivated. I think that the resonance of Lindor arriving signaled a new era and perhaps that could have been done without trading Andres Jimenez, but sometimes you just got to pay for something that you can't measure. Will you stick around with us for bleacher tweets? Because we got some good ones today and I want you and Sarah and Taylor to keep me in check here. Absolutely. Thanks, John, first place Matt's first place Yankees and yet last night they both lost and by a combined score of 17 to one. That's pitching has been so good. Just head back to back shutouts at the Phillies 8 games in a row where the midst of that allow more than two runs and yet the braves last night, three runs off Carlos Carrasco and then an 8 run 6th inning to win 13 to one and since those are four or 5 at city field, braves have won 7 straight. They're back to within four and a half games with a match three more games remain in this series in Atlanta and the mets have locked infielder Luis Georgia to a groin injury makes managers buck show up. Brady cannon and Adam Burke here with you for one more segment of the run line before we pass the baton to Scott's sidenberg for the look ahead, a fine baseball handicapper in his own right indeed. And we're continuing to scour the Monday card Adam and I were talking off air. There are some fantastic pitching matchups in Major League Baseball on Monday and another one right here between the mets and the braves, the two teams, one and two in the national league east division, Carlos Carrasco, and Spencer strider scheduled to open what is a four game set in Atlanta, New York will enter the series with a 5 and a half game lead over Atlanta in the division. And I tell you what Adam, this ought to be a beauty and I was thinking about this when I looked at this game and kind of was drawn up our handicap before the show today. I think if New York can escape this four game series in Atlanta and increase that 5 and a half game lead in the division to 7 and a half games, I think it's over. I think they win it. Yeah, I think so. And look, I think something that's really important to talk about here, as I've mentioned already throughout the course of the show, if you can generate swing and miss, you can take care of this Atlanta lineup. They are really, really good. Don't get me wrong, but when they face guys that can generate swing and miss, they don't have the same kind of projection, which is part of the reason why, the mets one four out of 5 in that series. The mets have a lot of high strikeout pitchers. Carlos grass goes just below a strikeout per inning, but his swinging strike rate this season 13.4%. So that's the percentage of whiffs relative to swings. So this is a guy that does have swing and miss does have almost 47% ground ball rate. Carrasco matches up pretty well, I think, with Atlanta because Atlanta wants to pull the ball in the air and wants to be able to make a lot of contact and it's hard to do all three of those things against Carlos Carrasco. So you mentioned this number during the break, I was kind of working on the newsletter here a little bit, but you mentioned this number and I thought, that's a little high. I love Spencer strider, but it's a little high, so I'm curious to see if this line comes down a little bit. And as of right now, I think it's mets or pass in this game. Yeah, I'm seeing minus one 45 on the Atlanta Braves and strider with a total of 8, I would probably lean a little bit to the under and I'd certainly be looking to back the dog here. I know the braves have kind of picked up it was other than that series against the mets when they dropped four out of 5. They have picked up again where now they have won 6 in a row. So either one of these teams is tough to get in front of. And that's kind of a situation when you have in football. If you've got two teams that are relatively equal, take the dog. Take the points, right? Right. I think taking the plus money would be the way I would look to go here. The Astros are in Chicago to take on the White Sox and let's see how good the White Sox really are, right, Adam. Okay, a, can they make the playoffs? B, can they win the division? And C, will any of it matter because are they good enough to make any noise in the postseason anyway? I think this series here with a legitimate World Series contender in the Houston Astros is going to answer a lot of those questions. Yeah, I think so too. And a tough blow for the Astros here with an announcement that Michael Brantley will not be back this year. That is tough. I love watching him play baseball. He's a professional. So good. It was great to watch him for so many years in Cleveland. Just, you know, he rolls over to second base a little bit too much for me. That's the one flaw about his about his performance as a player here. But interesting one here because it was like Jose or kitty and Johnny cueto in this one and Johnny cuota is a guy that I've talked about in the regression report on the show and also written about endpoint spread weekly. So no line on this game though, so I'm not sure if there's some question about who's just I saw minus one 30 on the Astros, a road favorite and a total of 8. Yeah, this one just popping here over the last few minutes. If the Astros are still minus one 30 in the morning when I go through the article, I think Houston is probably the side to look at here. Is a guy low strikeout rate, but he's having a lot of success on balls in play. He's stranding a very high percentage of runners. That's very hard to do if you're not getting a lot of strikeouts in the Astros don't really strike out. So I don't really expect the White Sox to do much of anything against your kitty. If I can get this at a decent price and it's a pretty good price behind us at minus one 30 here. I think the Astros will play. I agree with you. I mean, that's as cheap as you're typically going to find the Houston Astros, and I don't know exactly why there's, I mean, it seems like there's a lot of respect built in that line for the Chicago White Sox. I've already voiced my opinion how I feel about this team, but you talked about I thought you made a good point that Johnny may not have a lot of success if he's not able to strike batters out. And he's really no longer a strikeout pitcher. Right. Yeah, and again, I mean, you know, his banning average on balls in play is very low. His left on base percentage is very high. This is not a particularly good White Sox defensive team. It's just, I think this is one of those starts where you could see cueto's regression come into play. The Dodgers at the brewers and this feels very similar to me, Adam, the brewers, we're going to find out how good this team really is. This is also a four game series with the big boys, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and in the opener it'll be Julio urias taking on Freddy Peralta and I think this series right here is going to be very, it's going to tell us a lot about the fact that the Milwaukee Brewers and their fate, if you will, if they're going to make the postseason, I think they're going to have to split this series at worst. Well, this is a low key pretty good pitching matchup too. Meredith is really, really good as we know. Freddie Peralta is a guy still trying to work his way back off of injury. This will only be his third start. Since returning to the rotation. So, you know, he's faced the pirates and the rays. So this is a little bit of a step up in class here. Four Friday Peralta and some of you and I talked about during the break and something I probably should have mentioned when we talked about the Dodgers having won 12 straight on the run line up until today. Any time they are priced under -200, they are taking money. It's starting a little bit here already for this game, but I think it will continue as we go forward here. If for some reason it doesn't, and this line swings back towards Milwaukee a little bit, again, another context clue in the betting market reading the tea leaves, another indicator that the people that model and project these things out and all of that, if this line comes down, they like Milwaukee, they like Freddy Peralta. That would say a lot to me because we've seen just automatic fires on the Dodgers at anything under -200. You know, it's hard to get in the habit of betting and I'm seeing roughly minus one 63. We've got it up there on the graphic minus one 65. It's right in that ballpark currently. And you're not going to get rich betting favorites at that price all along. But it feels like it might be a little bit cheap on the Dodgers to me at that number because, you know, we talked about it. Milwaukee is going to have to play a big boy here and we're going to find out a lot about how good this brewer's team is. They haven't even been able to handle St. Louis over the last week or so let alone the Dodgers. Right, it's one of those things where are the Dodgers invested if the answer is yes. You're probably with that point where they might what is it, what do they call it in the NBA? Load

The Mets Quest To Rebuild, And Rebrand, Themselves
"So tim. It's certainly been a roller coaster of an off season for the new york mets. How would you characterize the state of this. Mets organization as we head into the twenty twenty one season. I feel like the mets are still in kind of a period of transition as an organization. Steve cohen took over at the start of november and he brings in sandy alderson. The team's former general manager as his team president guy who's really well respected around the game of baseball and the thought was they wanted to instill a new culture for the mets to build this new mets team. That was totally different from what they had previously under wilpon ownership and for two and a half months they nailed it. We're going to build a process that produces great teams year in and year out. You bill champions you. Don't buy them. They nailed the opening. Press conference and i plan to make the investments. We need to succeed. It started signing guys. Trevor may and james mccann. They make a huge landmark trade for francisco endure and carlos carrasco the first week of january and everything was rolling in the right direction for them until mid-january and the story about jared porter and his inappropriate text messages and texts photos with a female reporter while he was a member of the chicago cubs front office in two thousand sixteen exposed that maybe the mets could have done a better job in the vetting process. That was clearly for a lot of baseball reporters. Based on the inference took off of twitter talked and he will find out his character. That's on you. Skepticism is really exacerbated. A couple of weeks later when we learned about micky calloway's misconduct as mets manager. In two thousand eighteen. Twenty nine thousand. Nine callaway sent unsolicited messages and photos to women among other inappropriate and harassing behavior. The former mets manager aggressively pursued the women through messages and in person the team released a statement saying was hired by sandy alderson. As the general manager. Calloway had been hired by. Sandy alderson two years before so i think all of the good vibrations from the first couple months of the offseason were undercut by what happened in the last month of the offseason for mid january to the start of spring training in february

Okay, Now, this is gonna You gonna make me say some? I don't believe is a fan. Okay? I believe it has a fit. Well, okay. I believe it is a fan, but I don't believe it is an analyst. People always call up and talk about people's postseason struggles, and I don't think that matters at all the baseball teams. Like. I don't think Bryce Harper's postseason struggles or anything like that on there that mattered to the Philadelphia Phillies, or or anything about Clayton Kershaw or or David Price or anybody. I don't think that anybody's postseason struggles matter. I think they just get the player and I will be okay for us, but we've seen a couple scenarios. Clayton Kershaw certainly clean it up in the postseason. Other guys have So because I think that that's an overrated thing. Francisco Linda or has struggled mightily in the postseason there, buddy. I'll tell you that. That that is one thing you got to pay attention to, but hell probably figure it out. And I'm sure everything will be fine. All right now, and we also got a pretty solid picture in that deal as well. I like that. I'll tell you what, you got a great pitcher and a great guy. I've I've actually worked events with him. We both. Well, hope maybe he'll still representing there. I'm not sure. But we both represented window company here in Cleveland and I've got I've got to do a two events with him before and he fantastic. He is great with kids. Hey, is a great all around guy. Everything that's overcoming his life. There's Yeah, there are guys who I'll tell you this there, guys who like Oh, there they look like good guys. Then you know, behind the scenes there, not Not too great Carlos Carrasco from everything I could gather is is a prince of a guy from beginning to end, So I hope that he does. I hope he does. Well, you know, I'll Francisco Lindor does well free. I have. No, I have no animosity against the Mets always kind of like the Mets. S o. I hope they do well for you. And I hope that these players that come to the Indians or whatever they're about to be called here in the near future. I hope that they do well, but it does socket. What? What? I was upset about yesterday and I don't mean the languish on all of this because I know we got other things to do. But what I was upset about is I still thought that I kind of had a back and forth with an Indian's writer about this. Was. I thought that the Indians could do this in a different time. I think the Indians in a lot of ways were obsessed with the Browns. In timing. I think the Indians have been mad at the Browns before because there's there's people who are mad at the bronze were fans, but they continue to be bronze fans with the Indians have been a really good franchise. The Indians have been a successful franchise and well run franchise, and I believe all that will still be true. I give them their credit. But I also believe in You had time you could have done this earlier. You could have done this later. I think that I really do think Steve Cohen will be willing to make that deal. Whatever, because I think he wanted to make a splash. And so for the Indians to make this move now. I was doing the mornings yesterday and Nobody want to talk about that deal. They all wanted to get ready for the Steelers and Browns. Literally. People were calling and going. Hey, I like this sucks. Let's talk about some. Let's let's get excited about some here. Let's get excited about the bronze. Okay, You gotta go right on it. I guess I was giving people the option. I was given the option piano. And I think that that that provides That makes people really not care about their team. Because if you're calling and screaming about an owner of a baseball team or a franchise, Alicia care, and I think they really are they just beating down so much with all the trade that they've made over the because because if you're a baseball fan, remember your baseball fan you love the sport. If you're not in certain areas, How can you love your team? How can you really fully love your team? And how do I say how do I explain the market to my sons? Now That's a terrible card to play. But I seriously it's It's a tough conversation to have Because there's certain generational players and I know you're not gonna be able to hold on to them. I know it. So how do I worked that out Like the first Albert Belle was my first Love is a fan. Albert Belle and I love even when he chased down the kids on Halloween. I looked up, Yank my house. I'm coming after you, too. Okay, I I loved Albert Belle as a kid and Albert Belle left for a 60 something million dollar contract with the Chicago White Sox and Go, Dad. Why'd he leave it, son? It's xjak just different in professional baseball. That's what it is, and it's just gotten worse since then. So Major League baseball. I think he's playing people in the world who loved baseball. I think there's a lot of people in the world who have problems with professional baseball, but Their systems their system. I'm not going to be grudge Francisco Linda or for getting paid gobs of money and playing in a city like New York that's Z. That's good on him. He's living his dream. So go ahead. Paranoia. I got it off myself. Right here, Max, By the way, I heard Let me ask you this just for this. Are you guys favorite in the National League? You're obviously a favorite of the East Now. You should be right. You paid all that, But are you are your favorite yet in the National League, I I think we're getting there on your way. Well, I would say you're west. We'll see where other moves get made here this offseason, Okay? I don't believe they're done. But let's see. Because you got rid of the owners What the owners with his nephew as your general manager. What was that relationship with Brody? Mimi was right. Well, what was he were herded. Brody was a former agent. Yeah, who was the general manager who had no business being the general manager, Though? Is that him? Yeah, bro. Yeah, Okay. Yeah. All right. Yeah. People were upset about that. All right. Well, go ahead. Alright, go, But tell me about your mitts real quick. Well, your top five you wanted, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah. You wanted the top five. So this week, Burger King. They announced for the first time that in 20 years they were changing its logo. So they're ditching that blue curve and they're going back to like the old logo that was used up until it was 99. Francisco Lindor: New Hope For Mets Fans?
"For a big splash. A big domino to tip over and the mlb off season and we got one yesterday. The new york. Mets acquired francisco lindores and carlos carrasco from the cleveland indians for two shortstops in two minor leaguers and enormous transaction. How surprised are you that this happened not surprised at all. Buster olney is the host of the baseball tonight partly cast and he has been covering baseball for more than three decades. Look the last few years there had been so much industry speculation about when would the indians trade lynn door. In fact a couple of years ago. Paul dolan their owner told that the fan base look. Enjoy while you can. Because it was an assumption he was going to be traded. I think if not for the pandemic he would have been traded in the middle of last summer so the indians move in now and the fact that the mets were the buyers. That's not surprising either. Because i think mets fans have been waiting for Steve owns team to to make a big move and he certainly did that. And getting the best shortstop in baseball. Yeah i want to ask you about the cleveland side of the equation in a little bit. But i i wanna dive into the buyer that you mentioned because steve cohn buster. The mets new owner hedge fund billionaire self identifying proudly so diehard mets fan from long island. He's been on twitter. I'll off season making very loud noises about this being a new different kind of organization. You know we want to be excellent in all areas of this game That's going to require resources. And i'm fully committed to making that happen. He is so monumentally. Wealthy i mean he was one of the few people who didn't lose money in this pandemic shortened twenty twenty season. So what does this tell you about the promise of his regime yeah. He's the richest owner in baseball. Now and i. I wrote a piece Free espn dot com. That for mets fans who have suffered through their. Ptsd of the wilpon. Yes this is that the finally they get their reward were they have an owner. Who's willing to go toe to toe with the yankees owner. Who bills a team. That has continued success. I don't just want to get into the playoffs. I want to win a championship. You know through the years. Since i've been working in the new york market the assumption whenever a really big name came up. Was that the yankees. Probably elbow the mets out of the way and they would get the players in the in. The mets would operate like an upper middle class team rather than a big market team and this deal signals a change in that. But what i do believe. Is this a major markelle tune during the should have a budget to measure with the yankees coulda used shortstop. There are other big market teams. That could use a shortstop. And the mets get the best shortstop so because you are a veteran of the new york market i need to know how is indoor going to help reshape. Just the identity of the team itself because i mean nolan reported future about him. We'll get to that a bit as well but just how good is he. What's potential here well. He's the perfect player for the mets right. Now he's an elite defensive shortstop smash back can't buy off-balance throw in recent years jacob. Degrom has been great. Despite the fact that mets have been really poor on defense. It's shorts especially they need more lineup. Ballots lindores a switch hitter. They could use more power drill door with law. Law door hits for power. They could use speed lindores does that. He looked like the road runner as he took off from first base and he absolutely has the personality to be the face of a franchise in new york.
