LeBron James rips Rob Manfred over Astros cheating investigation: ‘I would be f---ing irate!’

"The national story continues to be the Astros rob Manfred continues to talk he's speaking right now in Arizona apologizing for calling the trophy what he called it a lebron James weighed in on this then you know once lebron tweets about anything it's we are in currently in the eye of the storm but the storm at some point goes back out to sea I know but how many stores have been bigger than the store he need the storms in sports history there were as big as this right now where you want the steroid story was this big I know when that was over several years right that was a whole era that was the great home run chase of ninety eight and then afterwards with bonds than trying to catch up to always Spygate and remember all of that that was a pretty intense time in the world of sports it was in that was right before Super Bowl in it was that one walk through on the Friday this was during a World Series winning season yeah but I I found them guilty I do believe this storm will go out to sea center than most people believe I think this is actually believe it or not good for baseball I said this is generating interest in games we're all going to be curious to know what's going to happen this year the the the the the television ratings pressures games are going through the roof this is not good for baseball now every thought every time someone with whom I don't know probably cheated I really like you want to generate discussion around their sport this is the only way baseball can really do it at a national level anymore resellers tweeted this I kind of agree with some of these said for everyone that thinks that man for to lose his job do you remember how bad it got for Goodell it was way worse than this you just ride it out eventually people move on and I I subscribe to the same theory it's going to be a rough ride and I don't know when that moment will be but I would suspect it'll be sooner rather than most people expect lebron said there's less any tweeted out two tweets listen I know I don't play baseball but I am in sports and I know if someone cheated me out of winning the title and I found out about it I would be laughing irate I mean like uncontrollable what I would slash could do listen here baseball commissioner listen to your players speaking today about how disgusted matter her broken it's that right center about this literally the ball is in your court or should I say field and you need to fix it for the sake of sports what's the fax I don't know where they're going to fix it it is easy to find all these players your face is you're gonna not allow technology in stadiums anymore it is easy though for all these players to speak out and in wag their finger at the Astros but you do have to wonder if you were on the Astros it just put yourself in that position and presented the opportunity probably would have cheated to like the very least would you've gone up to Carlos Beltran or Jose L. Tuesday or Bragman are guys that were accomplished players in the league and on what turned a man I know Mike Fiers is the one who expose this and he didn't say anything what was going on right he'd say anything until he was getting laid up in

Houston Astros sign stealing scandal: Carlos Beltrán had a 'sway over the clubhouse'

"AJ. Hinch had a recent interview with the MLB network. He did not make any excuses for failure to prevent the answers legal practices. But what he mentioned that Carlos Beltran's sway over the clubhouse. Help explain the inaction of hinch and other coaches and players. No one wanted to challenge Carlos. Beltran what you're the manager of a baseball team. You're supposed to be the top guy in in that clubhouse how were you challenged threatened by Carlos Beltran at all? How now of course? I've never played major league baseball so I don't know what the actual clubhouse dynamic is there. I know teams want veteran presence in their for their experience and to help young guys through through their problems and some issues that they go through. Because hey happens to us ever happens to everybody in the league happens to everybody like I mentioned. Some players mentioned there in their first year. They didn't want to challenge veteran. They didn't want to go against the status quo or the status quo that they thought was in place because they were just there's rookie. They didn't know any any better. Was that excuse can only go for so long but you know what? I'm saying

Carlos Beltran Out as Mets Manager After Astros' Cheating Scandal

"We got the news about one o'clock today that yet. Another person untied to the Houston Astros. Cheating scandal has lost his job. Carlos Beltran recently hired by the mets to be there next managers out of his job before even having having a meeting in spring training. That's because he was named in. The Commissioner's report released the other day for his role in the Astros signed stealing scandal of two thousand seventeen eighteen Beltran and the mets both indicated. Today that this was a mutual decision but I suspect that a week or two weeks ago even those with knowledge of the science dealing details from two thousand in seventeen believed that Houston. GM Jeff Luneau Astros Manager Aj. Hinch Red Sox manager Alex Cora now Carlos Beltran would still have have their jobs and they're all out and that's where we are probably Vera covers baseball for ESPN. She knows. Carlos Beltran now score very well Marley. How you doing? It's been a crazy week. I think crazy is a very good adjective buster special like no that totally can managers. Were highly touted. I don't have a job today. Unbelievable let's let's start with Carlos Beltran. That is the the most recent news. I'm going to also ask you about Alex. Corsie is we go forward but but I about Carlos. I thought that when the mets didn't put out a statement immediately on Monday evening after the Commissioner's report came out out the fact that the mets didn't come out right away and have a statement from Jeff Wilpon from Brody Bandwagon. And saying this is our guy. Carlos Beltran is our manager edger. And that's what we're going to do moving forward because what was in the report involved the Houston Astros in two thousand seventeen. The commissioners made it clear that Carlos this is not going to be disciplined for his role in that because he's the player at that time but the fact that they didn't put out that statement on Monday and then dragged out into Tuesday day and then Wednesday. You could see that the mets they were weighing their options and just as someone who covered the mets back in one thousand nine hundred seven having worked in New York market for a long. I've never seen an organization that is more affected by public opinion than the mets. And I thought Yep that he at some point. They're going to let him go. What what did you think absolutely couldn't agree more with what you said? And not only that the fact that you know one of the reasons why they hired Beltran was because it was excellent in publicity. Ns S you. And I know spending so much time covering baseball in New York. The mets have failed many times on the PR department. And this would hiring hiring Carlos Beltran. They bought themselves all this goodwill right the return of the prodigal son with everything that had happened when he had left the comments of the Wilpon when he used to be a you know. Oh a mets player. Everything gets kind of water under the bridge. There's just you know one of the most impressive press conferences that I have attended you know at city field so it was just as big. Pr Moment and then all of a sudden I agree with you. They got swayed by public opinion. And one of the things that Carlos Beltran and as you mentioned before which is important you state. The aren't family our friends of mine. So my activity here Sometimes can be a little bit swayed but the point is that can handle the media. He's been you know he was a player for twenty a years worked on a capacity assistant with the Yankees and so on and I feel that this was in my opinion. Definitely a wilpon decision muster. Oh No no question. The way this was described I think Carlos but at a statement they talked about a mutual decision. No way like this like Carlos I think absolutely was set on going forward but they say as all the conversation was taking place in New York to columnists were were taking aim at this and they are asking questions. Well what. What did the mets ask Carlos about? After the first athletic story came out about the signed stealing. And how would the mets feel about Carlos not having credibility with the media and it became a real hot topic on talk radio here and one stat ball started rolling downhill and then Aj hinch losses job and Jeff Luna lost his job and Alex. Cora lost his job. There was no way the mets leadership was going to stand in the way of that momentum and stand up and say in the past it was in the past which by the way is what Brody van wagon and said back in November. He kind of indicated like well. That's not really a mets problem. That's an astros throws problem. But their their their words their tone definitely changes week the only aspect that I can you know Ah have gone in this process. One of the things were Carlos may have had some input. Devil's advocate here. Is that one of the things that Carlos Beltran they'll turn and and you and I have covered a great deal of is the fact that he does not like off. The field distractions buster. And I think at that is the part or they'll go. You know what this is the right decision. He is one of those guys that likes to talk baseball. I remember what it was like the whole scandal with Iran in the Yankees Yankees Carlos Beltran was part of the Yankees Organization at the time as a player and he refused to engage in sort of those conversations so there is an aspect of how much he doesn't like the distraction and then that part certainly you know he could have had any input on but I I agree with you. This isn't you know the mets founded selves in an island. Having to make a decision and they got swayed by Jim Crane did and obviously you know what the Boston Red Sox decided to do. After the imposition of a penalty suspension to Alex Score. So let's breakdown go by the way. Yeah exactly breakout some other elements of this What do you think the mets miss out on? Not Having Carlos Beltran altron their manager. Carlos Beltran is an excellent leader. And I think that's one of those things that has been a little bit missing the New York Mets Organization. He drives arrives you. He's one of those guys that inspires others other players and he also galvanizes clubhouses right. He he was the player for the day when he was with the Yankees. Hanky along with Andrew Miller he always has always been so well spoken and he crosses that kind of you know barrier quote Unquote Latino players. And you know the players that are not Latino and I felt that he could galvanize that clubhouse very very well and I think that's the number one thing that the mets are going to miss out on and this is a man who obviously has left the game for a long time doesn't need the money this isn't right and it was honestly doing this job because he truly wanted to make an impact in organization that really has lost their way a little bit in the last couple of years so I think it's a huge loss. So they mess. We're GONNA do not have Carlos Beltran but I do understand the decision. In terms of the whole quote in quote distractions off the field now. I'm not as close to him as you are if I was I think and he asked me my advice in this situation. Now that he's lost the job of the mets would. I think I would tell them was Carlos you need to hold a press conference in New York have rent out a room at a hotel or restaurant invite all the reporters to come and basically say I'm here to answer all your questions about what went on with Houston with me back in two thousand seventeen eighteen. Because I think that's the only way he's going to be able to manage at some point down the road and all I heard for the last decade is this is someone who absolutely terrific manager in the future future. He has to be great at this job but I think that would allow him to and let's face he's never going to move past this. It's already cost him his job but at least to get past those questions would be to tell the writers. I'm here to answer every question you people have about what take place and I'll tell you exactly really what happened. What do you think about that? I don't know that I mean I. I would love for that to happen. Let's be very clear. I don't know that the benefit for for Carlos it's worth it If if one of the drugs and he said this in an introductory press conference specifically said I didn't want any job I don't need need a job. I wanted to stay in New York. Carl has very very young children. They're all right like very yes. Three kids are all very young during school in your this is where they reside the kids go to school will. So there's only two baseball jobs that he would apply for the New York Yankees and the New York mets and he's not gonna get either one of those jobs so I just don't think that at this point point it benefits the family anyway and I do think that Carlos will do what's best for his family especially having young children Buster and I know you know that you had young children at one time. It's the point that these kids have to see the paper tomorrow. They're going to be in school. They're old enough. You know and I feel like it would rehash a lot of topics. Is that right now. Maybe people are going to move on you know and and just gone from that now if he later on when the kids are a little bit older he wants to do something else. Maybe at that point but but at this point I just don't see the benefit.

"The Mets are looking for new manager again the one they hired in November cardinals Beltran is gone the latest casualty in baseball sign stealing scandal or press release the men said they in Beltran agreed to mutually part ways and Beltran in the statement confirmed he did not want to be a distraction for the team this is GM Brody van Wagoner fine day and it's it's one that that we wish we didn't have to be at but the decision that both sides came to today is has one one purpose is to do what we think is it is best for the club Beltran this week was the only player name to baseball's report following their investigation into the Houston Astros electronic sign stealing scheme and the Mets claim they had no idea Beltrame would be considered one of the central figures of that investigation back on November first as many of you attended we officially hired Carlos Beltran to be our new manager at that time we were unaware of the Astros situation so their wagon hired him and now he has to hire someone else we will now begin to discuss who will be our next manager having just gone through this process we have a number of qualified internal and external candidates who we will be considering it's our hope to announce a new manager in the near future they have competition the Astros are looking to replace the fired AJ Hinch the red Sox are looking to replace the fired Alex Cora like Beltran all casualties of baseball's cheating scandal over Nakheel checking all next WFAN twenty twenty sports time is seven oh three thank you things you haven't seen nothing yet I'm all small baby the project talking about sports life coach due to grab the door needs I.

"Apple iTunes today that the New York Mets caved in and Carlos Beltran is not the manager the Mets anymore now they got to find a new one we'll hear from Brody bandwagon at three is gonna do a conference call so here what he has to say at three o'clock Terry Francona one of the best managers in sport will join us in the three o'clock hour John name as well we go to your calls right now really informing ville will lead off Roy yeah and you hit the nail on the head I mean I'm I'm curious about it the Mets have no backbone they they couldn't wait it out with the twenty four hour news cycle I mean a month into the season no one even remembers it I hope all the Hispanic the Porter Rican fans remember what they did the Carlos Beltran I'm I'm certainly off the the mat bandwagon thanks a lot Montel the healing Porter Rican has anything to do with it obviously but if there was more that was going to come out that would have been damaging to Carlos fine but all we can base right now on is the report that and they'll be supplied and M. L. B.'s report included Beltran as one of every player right he didn't do anything but front right then the other players and so if there's more information that we don't know about it's a different story but based on what's out there right now I didn't think this was enough for the match to move on from him and I agree I don't think this was going to be a story that was going to last forever if you had the proper response and Carlos was gonna have to come out to make the exact same statement that just came out same thing I'm sorry I did make a mistake I'm learning from it I think he would have been able to overcome Tom in new haven Tom how are you story as well a longtime love that that occurs I mean okay about how I don't they should be required of a lot you had heard about what his allegedly from slaughter posted recently and then later yes the devices about the device is being used yeah yeah well also here's a here's a do we really know what it was is these vital one number well we don't know which is nice number two we've talked about this we had John boy the other day on yeah and brought that story up saying Hey it was never mentioned in the report that astral players had devices that would vibrate to let them know what pitch was coming was never in the report what you have to say about it John boy said yet him put in the report but I've heard from people in baseball that that story is true again I was in the report right right so baseball didn't say anything about it they didn't have enough proof of it maybe the players didn't admit it whatever the reason it was not in the report but that information's been out there so whether that's really Carlos Beltran sneeze or not that is something that that we talked about that that has been out there but it will be for whatever reason and that's why I think rob Manfred needs to say more about this whether it's a press conference for a long form interview somewhere probably on MLB network with others Loftin softballs since he owns the network but I think there needs to be more questions and answers about that was that investigated Mister commissioner and was there not enough evidence to the players not admit that but that has been out there we asked John boy about it the other day Evan in Garden City Hey I'm an avid Hey guys first time long time almost your age I've been a met fan my whole life I and I was in favor of having him let go when I tell you why if they win and have success and got the big win the World Series I think there's going to be questions hanging over them about was it legit did they cheat once you've cheated that stays with you would never goes away and I agree with you guys spring training it'll disappear they'll be talking about all the other issues of the day but as the season goes on in their success these questions are gonna really ugly what we're gonna magically mean that they which you know that they were cheating if you will why would that mean that just because dell Iran was I'm not saying it would but I'm saying that the questions would start to come up again because he's guilty of having been in the past years I think the Mets kind of took the high road so you know we just don't need that distracts last the last two years Carlos Beltran was employed by the New York Yankees mmhm so naturally specially Yankee haters wanna say will give must've been cheating Major League Baseball said they weren't right there is no need for an investigation a Major League Baseball because the warrant case closed story over as much as guys like Carrabba's from barstool or so met fans wanted to be true in this moment there's no evidence the Yankees treated and we're not talking about at least seen a rational people are not talking about the Yankees cheating because there's been no evidence yes said no need for investigation when the economy the same thing if the Mets had great success in you know you have people sit on them that's must be she will if there's no proof of that okay not to mention this group media would be on a mat still with bell trend there I mean you don't think they'll be more scrutiny on it because that I would be not only that but I think a guy like Brody bandwagon in an even Jeff what punk is Jeff doesn't wanna pay five million dollars and Brody doesn't want to be suspended also see what just happened and probably don't want to suffer that kind of yeah I'm sure because I think one of the things man for trying to do is scare franchises into policing themselves thinking well they're going to police themselves now because look what can happen to you if your general manager Jeffrey's in Hackensack Jeffrey all guys who is and I'm not saying the Yankees cheated I want somebody to think like this you think there's any correlation between Beltran being there and guys like shower may be in top man having career years not in Jeffrey we're thinking about it okay and I'm telling you MLB already right now has Bill trying to help my talking because bill baseball right maybe maybe Carlos came down to hear my come over here I want to just your rest now trial yet sure but I I yeah I have to take a leap of faith sometimes that if there was something to investigate and nobody would investigate and and and if he was you know if if they if they came out and said Belcher and there was no cheating by the Yankees don't tread water from a couple years why would that automatically thing the Mets will be cheap now if they would if they played well on the bill track right right you know what I think Beltran dead and we can argue all day if this is ethically wrong because I'm sure that what's her name Jessica windows all right this is wrong right of Carlos comes in and says alright guys imitate everything the Astros do I'm gonna tell you everything outlook scored the because I work for you now I'm a Yankee did he do that probably maybe do nothing wrong with that we did that that there's nothing wrong with what looked like about old time we are you know teams football all the time with these guys go to different teams and they bring a man just to find out about the teenagers left yeah that's what I have is all the time that's what I think core was referring to in that clip from the London series that Carlos is not only a really good baseball guy would probably set up like this is what the this is right or does right this is what the Astros do now that may take off some of his former teammates may they may say wow what a rat he's not loyal that's their problem but if I'm working for the New York Yankees and I'm Carlos Beltran why wouldn't I share what I know with the guys on my team even if I'm not playing right so do I believe you did that yeah of course I I I I would I think a lot of players would probably do that maybe not all but I certainly think a lot would always in Warren New Jersey Joe your your what's up what's so your are you listening to show last week and I heard the big Mike say about the blood hitters all like knowing what's common which sometimes is true but we will go away so well to bury the other one is a horrible offered Chapman the newer versions coming one seven twenty nine years old they when she accused of shooting last year it was seventeen hello the the the he was the one that wanted to talking about I mean that's that's the bottom line you want to call up and say on to be cheated in a year in which the Astros warrant cheating because you're upset that until they hit a home run I mean get over it hit a home run is really good at baseball did he cheat and seventeen I'm sure that I'm sure a lot astro because that's the report right do you know what pitch was coming in twenty seventeen a lot of the time probably but if your point is I got it I'm gonna NAIL out to they would two thousand nineteen that's just stupid there's all other ways you can go after out to add a friend of mine and I think it's a good guy but he's a Yankee fan he's upset about all this and even though we went through out to the home road splits in seventeen where he was a much better road header he said well what about the playoff numbers he was ridiculous at home how do you explain it and I said look I can't explain it I mean was he possibly getting help maybe I'm sure they were trying to do in the postseason but I look at that bigger sample size of the regular season and I see a guy was better on the road at home that point by my friend while I disagree with them makes a hell of a lot more sense than bringing up a moment a few months ago in which MLB is said the Astros were treating so it's just I say with peace and love is just a stupid point thanks for the call anyway Phil is in when they only your K. Phil Phil Evan and you really wrong about this one past I was just wondering if you ever heard of she was Joe Jackson nineteen nineteen worse my guy I love Joe you know you love troll do you remember his name you gonna remember Belcher and for a hundred years for what he did with twenty five other guys a hundred of the guys who cares I think she was Joe Jackson got holes yeah about that yeah okay so you can and we do it or he got he got hold of student so I you know if you know anything about Ciara's Joe Jackson but I obviously we and and look to the bait was it the whole basis the basis of the black Sox scandal that the whole team was getting old by the owner I mean really well that was Comiskey with us trying to cheap out on his players it doesn't excuse what they did it but I think Jackson's case was a little bit different there are thoughts that his life was threatened family members were threatened right and anyway I'm performed in the World Series you did and actually hidden at World Series I don't know when and the one thing I'll give our last caller this on is I can't write history so I can't tell you what we're gonna say a hundred years from now in anything I can predict but I really don't know I don't believe that the two thousand and seventeen Houston Astros will go down yeah nineteen yeah right so I I don't I don't believe I don't either now I I mean that that team you know they threw the World Series is team you know the wasn't thrown anything at all I needed a you know they were trying to win is what they were going the other way all right they were trying to win Monty in Westchester Monty what's up how are you how are you guys wonderfull great I was wondering away for baseball to fix all this sign hearing if the commissioner just said that you know you have to switch up your sign or else they're going to steal them like everybody's in trying to feel sorry for ever why not just change the signs even with no runners on base yeah I mean I think that one thing baseball has to look at us talk about this the other day is somehow with what I can give you how I don't know how they would do a technology that makes signs kind of a thing of the past because I think that signs in changing up signs slows the game down and slowing down the game is the biggest thing threatening the game of baseball right now that is the biggest problem with baseball more so than this cheating scandal I really believe that it turns kids off they don't watch baseball games last too long and a big part of why these games last too long is that because you're afraid everybody stealing signs and they're changing them all the time so I don't have.

"So Buster. The Red Sox and Alex Cora mutually parted ways on Tuesday. I think that's what we're calling it. After it was revealed that Cora was an integral part in the illegal sign stealing operation in Houston in two thousand seventeen when he was the astros bench coach. MLB is currently investigating the Red Sox as well to determine whether he implemented similar signs stealing in their twenty eighteen world series winning season season and now we are all awaiting to see what his punishment will be. What was your reaction to the report of his wrongdoing and his subsequent firing well? I wasn't surprised that he wound up leaving from what I understand from talking with sources that he knew as soon soon is the astros fired. Aj hinch and they fired. Jeff Luneau their general manager that his position with the red sox wasn't tenable depressing intimate set in terms. The suspensions and at the very least Alex is going to probably get a year and if they were to stack on the extra counts for the red SOx walks in two thousand eighteen at the end of that investigation. He might even get more time than that and so I think he totally understood that they're in a position where they were going to have have to consider a change. We met with Alex yesterday and everyone went into that meeting trying to answer. The question is what was in the best interest for the Boston. Red Sox Alex was professional understanding that he had made a mistake and and so after a couple of conversations. We all mutually agreed that we needed to part ways. But we do it. Alex feels like to some degree. Sorry that he's leaving on his own terms just as someone who's known for a long time and worked with them. I certainly feel that way a year ago. I think we would talk about about. Alex is being the most powerful manager in baseball and now we don't know if he's ever going to manage the big leagues again. But you worked with him when he was at. ESPN right right right. Worked with him for four years. ESPN did shows with him was around him and then after he left. You know when I would do my work on Sunday night. Baseball all or other type reporting and you talk to him or you're around the red sox and you watched how he interacted with players boy. He ascended so quickly and I can't remember someone who probably was better suited for the position of manager and saying I can't sit here today and predict that he's ever going to manage again in the major leagues seeks buster. What did baseball say that? Alex Cora actually did in Houston that he was essentially at the center of the conversation. An that had begun with Carlos Beltran and some of the players about refining. This science stealing Alex was the one according to the report who ask ask employees to install a monitor that could be used right behind the Astros dug out by the way that monitor was located. Did No more than thirty feet where. Aj hinch their manager was standing. No more than thirty feet were. Alex was doing his work bench coach during the course of the game. So basically everybody knew it was there. Everybody I've heard stories in the last forty eight hours about how members of the Astros have reached out to people though the teams comes after the athletic came out with an initial report and tried to assure peers competitors. Hey don't it wasn't that serious that that story was overblown and then when the report came out with the details the other day there is so much anger there are friendships that are fractured. Because of how some members the Astros not only did they cheat back in two thousand seventeen but in the two months that followed the athletic report. They've been lying. Did their peers about what they were doing. Well Chorus reputation like around baseball before this news. He was known as the guy who would hold things together. During a moment of crisis he took over the national team from Puerto Rico leading in the WBZ. He showed such a great way of dealing with players connecting with people at that time the Puerto Rico national team potentially had three shortstop Havi Abayas. Hi as an Francisco Lindor Carlos Correa and among baseball nerds like myself. We were all wondering like how is. How is Alex GonNa work through those Egos you know? How is he going to convince one guy to be the third baseman who got to be shortstop and one got to be the second basement any did it? And when he was the Astros Bench coach in two thousand thousand seventeen men he made such great connections with Alex Bregman at George Springer. They loved Alex Cora the the players loved Alex other people in Baseball. Absolutely love Alex. When the Red Sox officials who put in this position where they have to fire him they talked about that how much that's regard they have for him and I think that's I has been universal leading up to this whole decision? What was he like as a player at the time he was drafted by the dodgers? He was regarded as an excellent prospect but he never really developed into the consistent offensive player that the dodgers thought he was going to be. He carved out this role through a fourteen year career of being a role player but he was smart guy and was always known like Carlos. Beltran is someone who it was really good at ascertaining what the other team was doing with it signs for decades there was an accepted form of stealing signed and that would be the runner standing at second base and figuring out what the catcher signs were there with a lien or with the placement of a hand on a knee they could could convey to the hitter. What the next pitch was? And that's the reputation that he developed early on so he was signed stealing back that he was good. Good at picking up on Pitch Tipping. I'm sure as smart as Alex is. As much experience he had in baseball. He was tremendous. It picked up signs when leading off at second base and potentially relaying back to the hitter so despite that science stealing ability outscore score never really broke through as a player he retired in two thousand eleven as a career to forty three hitter but in twenty sixteen buster he returns to the Big Leagues Leagues as the Astros Bench Coach now Houston is known as extremely progressive forward thinking organization. How much were analytic Atlantic's and video? Apart of course coaching methods it was a lot in terms of what he was responsible for with defensive positioning. I've had conversations with Alex when we would talk about an infielder. Who may be wasn't that good and didn't have that much range and Alex would give me awake and say he'll be fine? We'll put them in the right place. That's part of what he excelled at when he was with the Astros putting a guy in the right spot to make a play a now the Astros under Jeff Luneau always had a rule that reporters could not talk to coaches. They're only organization baseball. That I know of that made that rule. I think in part because they wanted to protect their information. They didn't want the coaches talking about what they were doing. But I think Alex like Brent Strom their pitching coach. Aj hinch. They got a lot of information. A lot of feedback from the front office that they wound up using the culture in the organization has come under a lot of scrutiny really for months now. The commissioner statements singled out. Do you think Cora felt built enabled. Perhaps by the Astros focus on winning at all costs absolutely when you look back at the history of the Astros after Jeff Luneau took over. Boy does this seem inevitable. 'cause I mean they SP- have absolutely skirted right at the edge of of competitive propriety. All the way through when you think about what happened when Jeff took over the team. Not only did they tank. They tanked in a way that no one had ever seen before in baseball. You know in one year I think it was two thousand thousand thirteen. They cut their payroll down to the point. Where only one player on the team at the end of the year was making over a million dollars? One player I know what the commissioner said about the word tanking but I can tell you privately so many executives at that time. We're going to see what they're doing. They are absolutely they're not even pretending to. I have a representative major league product. It was clear from their actions. Then that so long as you wound up winning and you got the number one pick and and you pick Carlos Correa or you wind up with Alex Bregman. That would justify what they did. That same sort of mentality was in play during the stealing stuff

"People are going to be like that's not coffee. Tilburg? Brian. How do we not get both of you guys? Get Harper Machado St. India's bringing kluber we have our starting rotation on the back burner. I don't get it. How you not what these two generational talent. Well, right now, according to our poll CNBC WFAN on Twitter are Yankee fan. This is a question going to be happy. If Machado doesn't sign here. Fifty two to forty eight with over thirteen hundred votes. Fifteen fifty two to forty eight say, yes. Are you kidding me? Are you are you out of your? Maybe because they want Harper. Maybe. But I don't think they have been very clear on Harper. And I don't think this is playing a game called Descartes you'll when he's talking about taking their temperature. Then he he retracted a little bit. Thank never told me that directly. Right. And then the next day cash had to be like, well, we always have the ability to fit your Santana. So the whole thing real quick before the break. Did you see Carlos BELTRAN got higher? Yes. Special assistant to the general manager. So I think it's a good idea. I think it's Carlos BELTRAN this one of the brighter baseball star brighter players who was a star in terms of understanding all aspects of the game and the locker room dynamic and all of that. Without a doubt. I think he is not only a great player. He was a heady player. I was just a little surprised that he actually did an interview for the open managerial jobs not that there were that many this off season, but I interviewed with the Yankees to be the badger. And I thought well, maybe he's still wants to be the horse the guy. Yeah. But you don't over his shoulder. Let's see. That's the thing. Member all season. We were taking calls of people who thought Boone was doing this terrible job. I'll admit he had some gaps in the postseason. But I thought he actually did a very good job this year. I thought he did too. I think he's exactly what the Yankees are looking for so tries insurance though. I don't know. I wonder if he's biding his time getting a little extra knowledge until managerial jobs becomes open. I mean, we don't know what's going to happen with the cubs. You're like the Yankees. Now. I think they're gonna commit the book. I think he's absolutely trying to pick up as much knowledge as you can in every aspect. I don't think they brought him in to sign Machado reasoning. Because his agent is the same. No. I don't think that's the reason. Either one fifty six eight seven seven three three seven.

"Because let me tell you when an announcer finally learns this game. Oh, do we drill this Dame? Like there is no tomorrow to us by Loa has taken over at quarterback for Alabama, by the way, could be starting on any other team in the country. So that could be a double whammy for there was always something great about Brent Musburger why we have on there when he clicks with the name as Adam. And last year it happened for me on our show when I was like, all right, Hercules. Much. Hercules, Hercules, Mata. And it feels so good to say, well, the other thing we've talked about this on our show former. I think former MLB commentator, John Miller legends still still works for the giants on on radio. John Miller gets a little too into the Spanish accent. Oh, miguel. BELTRAN Carlos BELTRAN and one ODI, babe. That was probably my favorite one. Did you ever see the SNL sketch where I think it was Jimmy Smith's and it was like an office party and they brought it Mexican food and he was like, yeah, I think I'll have some in us. And it was wonderful, and there is an element of that with these announcer to Tung young star from the islands, and it's going to happen every do you have an Alabama game this year did too was first game and the national chain. How did you do? So I had it down Pat. So I am Cise that as soon as he came in and like came into the second quarter, they're playing Jeff Tedford spreads, no state BULLDOGS and home. And as soon as he came in, we were like, oh, we are ready for it. We are going to nail this the stories of Marcus mariota, buddy and Hawaii, and we had everything and then Anthony back to my my filling in on a crew that we get Anthony back up saying incorrectly. The first. Not the throw Anthony out of the bus too much because we got it eventually together. But Marcus mariota first game starting was Joe test game who's doing Monday night football now, who is the money? I think I know exactly what you're going to say, four quarters. We got Marcus. Doing that in the booth at what was what was so great about that when he first came out when Marcus I took the field, Joe said it that way and then set and folks that is how you outs is. Let me tell you about how history and kindness work with Annunciation. Mario ta, and that is folks how you pronounce his and I'm like, no. Joe Pitts not gonna do well. That was wonderful. We kicked around a few other two options. Yes. This was curly the strong. Do his name like the low hanging fruit. It's this will this will be thing. Can we rosters the final rosters by the way look? Okay. Here we have you finish. Yeah, people are hissing a saucy Bilo the herbs NFL. I don't know how often that's going to happen back half the season bad there might make fun of great. Blandino is really good. Great blend, so good. I'll tell you, I can. I can I give you a quick quick analysis. It gives us some third party analysis here. I'm not sure how much we're going to see the first one for you. Dan, the crazy strength coach loose. I'm not sure how often we're gonna see. Well, I mean he is, I mean, got it. Yeah, they are going to blow it out. Yes, and Mark, your announce cruise when Holly Rowe does a game. So that's what she on mcdonagh Todd black, that you can almost count on there being a strength coach reference at some point because typically do big games. They'll always do a big game. Oftentimes they'll have an SEC game. And oftentimes that's when we talk about the strength and conditioning coaches, right? Because everybody's heard so much about Nick Sabin and Gus malzahn. We've already heard the entire story about every coaching staff. In the SEC where do we go? We go straight to the crazy straight SEC games and the Holly Rowe games I think are big, and they're going to blow those out. So that's where I think you're gonna make make your, hey, more often than not on that. I love the Taunton kickers punters for you, must champs great. The blandino is gonna win you a lot of points for those of you watching those the big game on FOX every weekend..

"And similarly, maybe tell a little bit of the story of Carlos BELTRAN on this team. Yeah. Well, I mean, THEO. Epstein is another one who does recognize this right? Because beyond Hayward, he also David Ross. There's actually an academic study that I cite in the book called the David Ross or maize called in search of their David Ross effect. Actually, this guy hits like a two thirty backup to thirty hitting backup catcher, but this is somebody that THEO wants teams. You know, he was on the Red Sox. He's on the cubs for reason. Same thing with the guy like Schwarzer who a lot of people think THEO is overly fond of. Well, there's a reason for. It. And yeah, I think the reason that a lot of teams have trouble investing in this because it's hard to know what it looks like sort of it's at least hard to define what it looks like. You kind of get a sense of certain guys who keep things together. Keep things positive are devoted to helping, especially younger players improve every day, but it's hard to put a number on it. Like how much are we paying for this? How much is it really worth? Stuff like that. And it's hard for the Astros do that too, but especially after they kind of got good faster than they thought they would in two thousand fifteen and made the LDS and then lost the royals who had this extra quality. It's kinda relentlessness and everybody could see it even though I don't know, a lot of statistically minded people would kind of scoff at it. But I think when jefflin's strength is that he realized that it was real and that it was worth trying to find an invest in even if you didn't know exactly what you're looking for while he did determine that, you know, he thought Carlos BELTRAN could still hit a lot of home runs at forty, which actually didn't, but he signed. For another reason, there are a lot of guys who could hit home runs on the free agent market. There was only one guy who was forty, nine time all-star known as a great clubhouse guy wherever.

Marcos Guterro was supposed to be an added role player too I don't think the. Giants were looking at him going we're going to. "A bunch of times with the yankees though was at one game against houston and obviously this ron and he's just not been a good postseason player one sixty seven in seventy three plate appearances he does have three home runs but a very very low batting average now all of a sudden he wake up and have a big octobber moment sure and then on the other side of that you have carlos beltran who you know i think the main reason anyone talks about carlos beltran being a hall of famer is not necessarily what he did in the regular season any knows very good numbers when you guys afforded 35car home runs he's had how many hundred rbi years like nine of them so he's had a very good regular season career but i think why people talk about carlos beltran is potentially being a hall of famer is what he's done in october gussied sixty gene home runs in fifty nine games and really you think about that in seen ronnie add two thousand four with the astros when he of four home runs in the nlcs net four home runs in the divisional series i mean he was he was crazy he was unbelievable and he's a good postseasons outside of that too even with the mess though i i know it's no crime for that we forget that he had three home runs during that lee championship series against the cardinals remember mostly the strike out looking but he's postseason numbers that he is compiled has been tremendous and i think that's a big part of our anybody talks about him as a hall of famer but with a lot of the other guys in the south carolina were kinda seeing a very small sample size wholesale two they had a really bad postseason in two thousand fifteen remember the astros beat the yankees not walk or game and actually at a two one series lead against the eventual world champion kansas city royals they blew a two one lead and i think they blew a big lead.

"First guy that he sees and then he gets into this battle with josh rettig and it was one of those postseason atbats where it really is a war of wills between the guy on the mound and the guy in the batters box and they're trying to figure each other out there's just a lot of this back and forth almost like it's just these two guys in a ring together all by themselves and so josh etiquette ends up going through this epic battle with craig kimbrell and he then comes up with the rbi single and so at that point the red sox are down by a run and the sense of urgency israeli dialed up and of course there are questions about chris sale being on the mound in the eighth inning and craig kimbrell coming in and why not other moves made by john farrow which of course dovetails once the series is over carlos beltran ansett adds an rbi double in the ninth inning there was a really cool moments in in the ninth inning for the red sox and it's one of the most exciting moments in sports in my opinion so i want you to here it though it does it end up factoring in the end of the theories galileo to shrink is a shock to leftcenter field paco spray error by the wall jobs core oh saga for a brief moment there the time that it takes raphael denver suzanne old enough to drink alcohol legally it takes them to get around the base of the ball caromed out that are field off the wall and and it's it's a sweet moment for this young red sox player who's one of the faces of the future law all right the here there is hope there for a minute or two on the red sox radio network they don't end up tacky on another ride maybe fittingly it's dustin pedroia who gets the final out against the astros and then houston is able to celebrate in the rain there at fenway park wall the red sox are then about to deal with the.
