"This is the key bank counter to kick off and we'll continue with our meet The Scarlet Knights portion of the show. We now go to the the defensive side of the ball. We do know one name. Sam has mentioned a couple of times on the show so far. A former Wolverine Michael Guam, four is up front. For the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Steve take us through the rest of the Rutgers defense. And this will be the time where Sam starts talking about the offense, But it was a I was making a point. About missing, all right. No, I know. Look eight I could want for is the most talked about person You want to know about on the defensive line, you'll be wearing number 99. If you need help finding him when he's on the field today. Hey and Julius Turner. Uh, Those are two guys who could really light it up in the interior. These air two guys you wish Michigan had in their interior line up right now. With no disrespect to Carlo Kemp. Michael's want for is is Getting into the line of scrimmage. Julius Turner is getting in the back field. He's tied for fifth in the big 10 tackles for loss. Uh, watching these guys play. They are really quick off the snap. Sometimes they can get into some offsides issues. Aziz Well, but they are beating their guys one on one off the snap quite a bit, And it's a destructive thing doesn't necessarily mean they're going to get it tackles for loss, But it means the play is in trouble to start with. And then you have to start. You know, free free flowing. What do I do next? And we've seen that in some Michigan film. Have we not Sam. Somebody makes a mistake off the line of scrimmage and it's like OK. And now what do I do? In which way should I go, and unfortunately Most of these players because they're in experience. Sam for Michigan are not having a very good plan be executed by other people on the line or the running back making a decision itself so that it's one thing to really watch. Is to watch those two guys in the interior. Are they going to make life difficult for the Michigan offensive lineman and therefore also for the running back? Maybe getting the ball again. Another situation we're talking about game planning, Sam is to try to throw it outside the tackle box on a short Short pass plane and then then hope you receivers come block downfield. But on the other mid level of this group, you've got a linebacker name Tai Shan Fong, who was the second leading tackle right now in the big tent. I really watched him with the love out of interest because he is very quick. He could change direction on the time had some critical stops last week against Illinois had 13 tackles all that together. I think he's got great anticipation. Anticipation. He's active. He could shed blockers. You made the all big 10 team last year. Believe it or not, And then how about this? Guy, Sam. This is a challenge for all the announcers out there all I could lay photo Kasey. He is the leading tackler in the big tent. So we talked about. Thank you, Ira. Ah, weeks worth of practice? Yes. Come to fruition. What? Got it without hesitation. But now can you do it again as you restart this bit? Huh? All a crudely thought of Kasey. Very attack. We're in the big 12th most tackles for the loss in the Big 10. He's got two forced fumbles, got two recoveries on his 2020 resume. And so again. Now I'm talking about defensive players on Rutgers who are actually making plays. This is just such Difference than when talking about Rutgers before. Usually, I say somebody about a Rutgers players got a lot of past broke passes broken up because they're targeting and one with every single test. But there are no offense would try to throw at them. But this is not the case. They have some players that are doing some things. And then you have Mohammed Toray, not related to Kamo Co. Two Ray back in 2014, but they do the same thing. They sacked the quarterback. He's tied for second in the big 10. Good quarterback sacks. He also forced two fumbles on Michigan State. When watching that say came, I thought the Rutgers defense was very good at what I call the raft and rip technique. We're one defender wraps up the player and then a second defender comes in, and he tries to rip the ball out. Rutgers is going to try to do that with Michigan, especially with the young guys on offense. Trying to fight and force and do extra about getting those extra yard because those yards are getting harder and harder to come by that one guy wraps and the other guy rips so Michigan players. Watch out if you're trying to be a hero fighting for too many extra yards? Yeah, when we get to the match up segment, I mean, just the Oh, you know, kind of give you the preview to ruin the spoil the movie before we We get to it. I'm going D line online Records D Line Michigan Online. And Michael drove for is a huge reason why Michael Guam for It feels like he wasn't you know, like his ship it Michigan and sail that that he was not wanted here very much anymore, And at least that is wanted as much as he was, or is it Rutgers? And he has something to prove. In this game. He's been telling the former teammates all week, former roommates all week. What he's.

"Hawkins got a hand in there to knock it away, and the Wolverines force it. Wisconsin punt. Stack and some place you get a field goal. You make a quarterback change. Get a big drive. Now you get a defensive stance, stacking them together. Let's see what If their quarterback and make another drive here to get them somehow back in this football game. Gonna bitch into punch child Jackson back deep for Michigan. Whoa! Michigan really stacking that line. Could've it has it. They came after him flagged down is one of which was hit. Jackson built in the 26th gets to the 30 cuts to the 35. He's drilled and taken down there, but I think we're gonna have a penalty against the Wolverines. They came after the punch that time. They didn't get it, but they did get none of it. Yeah, running into the kicker. Defense number 28 5 yard penalty will result in the first down. Wow. So you get a little bit of confidence. You get stopped. You get the ball back. You committed penalty, which brings Wisconsin's offense right back out on the field. Yes, it's a shame that that led to a first down. I mean, you know being that where was with fourth of five. You know if it would have been roughing, obviously, that's automatic, too, but just enough to get the first down it. It's just man. They can't get out of their own weight right now with how they shoot themselves in the foot penalties in this game. Also, too. Early Turnovers resulted in Wisconsin Touchdown mistake's Against the good teams very difficult to overcome. Michigan Finding that out this evening is the trail here, 35 to 11. The minute 22 to go in the third. Out of the huddle into the line. Wisconsin will scrimmage from their own 35 of the fresh set it down Nakia watching the deep back in and I Urged Turns gives the watching prize the middle of that Michigan defense. Nothing doing just amazing Blue wall up there that time got a yard, Carlo Kemp. Marcie Smith. Both make stop straight league play. Michigan was pinching their defensive tackles the whole time. Well, you said to back to back series, those two plays that we could have just witnessed where they kind of had numerous jerseys around the football. Where has that bent Lisa's last two Syriza. It's happened for University of Michigan leaves Wisconsin looking at a second down and nine from their own 36 marks out of the gun has got it wants to close does right side. It was caught by Davis hit immediately at the 42 yard line and stop three yards shy of a first down good defensive work That time by Vincent Gray and Michael Barrett. So third down, coming up another chance for this Michigan defense. What Michigan with changes in personnel now on third down Hello. Kemp comes back. So, too does Mozzie Smith. In Wisconsin does not have to run another play, and they will not let this one wind down to the end of the third quarter way will head for the fourth with the score 35 to 11, Wisconsin on top. You're listening to end See a football on Westwood one. Diabetes,.

"It's caught by Fry Fogel between the numbers at the 25. He's up over the 30 yard line. He's dropped at the 31 1st down Indiana What this offensive line has held up. He had to hold its a third receiver. He went to there. Look down the field back across the field that came back to the middle of the field. So panics continues to get the job done. Give you his updated numbers. He was 14 of 19 for a buck 57. In a couple of touchdowns before that completion. Inside 10 minutes to go. Second quarter Hoosiers the football 14 7 League. Here's a pitch forward on the suite by failure trying to get to the sideline. Michigan's going to string it out and failure will step out back of the 29 yard line. Lost a couple of yards and Indiana's tried that play twice and it hasn't worked out. They don't really nice job get penetrates from the inside, and Hawkins was coming across the field with him in man coverage and he was right there to push him out of the end. I'm just going to go back to it and keep talking about this five guys upfront. Done A really nice job keeping Michigan off of the back the picnics 2nd 12 from the 29, Indiana. In their own territory, leading 14 7. Going to continue to frustrate this Michigan defense. We haven't seen Ayten Hutchinson, the defensive end back in for Michigan since he was hurt in the first quarter. Clean snap, appendix back pressure coming rolling right and that one thrown away and that's the first pressure of the day by Michigan. And it came from Carlo Kemp. Two time captain. It had been. We've almost played a full half this if you're right, it's the first time he's had any buddy around his feet. Any kind of pressure finally got to enforce seem out of bounds. Now, third long this mission can come after him right here. 13 12 from the 29 2 receivers each side of the football field. Football marked at the left hash. Samson James's the running back into the laughed appendix. A nexus been able to make the place today might have gotten the Wolverines to jump again. Free play appendix gliding left, firing deep down the middle of the field. That's incomplete, but another marker down and it looks like I'm on green interfered with Marshall around the midfield logo. And Jim Harbaugh has to be losing his mind. His defense jumped another free play and maybe a pass interference on the back in. I think both of these against the defense, I don't think there's a question they'll decline the outside penalty and Except the See, I Junior at a DeSoto, Texas, Simon Green, But there was definite contacted, you know, down there, two fouls on the play, both against the defense..

"Mozzie Smith is another one that is developing. But you've got to get some of these guys that seem to be in really position to be that compliment to Carlo Kemp and the top three at this point, I believe are hidden. Donovan Jeter and Julius Welsh off and we'll see where where they all are, as faras be able to hold their own it and really improved that staff ability of the middle Is it made? John, I gotta ask you about this story today not to be a rally killer on the defensive line, but There was a national column. This morning, wondering About Jim Harbaugh con tract status and he's done at the end of the year and the Piece pointed out. He is the only power five coach with less than two years on his deal, John, What if you're ward manual? What are you thinking about in this situation? You know for me? I looked at it. I don't think you go through the entire season. If you have the plans here that you're going to Have an extension for Jim Harbaugh, but we do realize it's a pandemic. We know that he commented on it that They had bigger fish to fry a couple months. I'll go. But you know, here we are with the season coming up. Ah, week from Saturday, so I know it's ah Harbaugh. However, you describe it, whether it's you know, just odd or different or quirky. The critics like you know, say bizarre. This particular situation is one Where he doesn't seem to fit the norm with all of the other coaches where, you know they have their agent. They have these negotiations going out. He seems like he handled this differently than most. What's your read on this situation? Well, my read is partly you mentioned the fact that a commented that we're in a pandemic. Ah, we've got we've got other things to think about there. Different things going, But you know the reason that they roll these contracts out like they do and re up extend and all it has everything to do with recruiting. And you want people to know that your guy is going to be in the building and he's gonna be there. It's been interesting that I don't know that Jim Harbaugh and Ah, president of the university were completely on the same page in terms of the The pandemic response and whether or not football was played this year. So you know there may be disagreements there. I would think like you do that. You wouldn't let this go. Oh, ah, whole lot longer if you're going to Ah, renew this contract. You want to send that signal that okay, Jim Harbaugh's gonna be here you're gonna get that done A sorrows to the specific article referenced I find it. Ah, a little bit odd that you're talking about. Playing shirtless and sleepovers with recruits and things to point out oddities when all of those things came five years ago when Jim Harbaugh was just getting going, and You know it. It speaks to maybe not being as plugged into what's going on here. As you might if you were here on a regular basis, But you know, it raises the question that it's a different situation. And you see, so it might be something that mission wants to get cleared up. I mean, I get it. I mean, they were talking about it before. Before the pandemic. We hurt we found out about the pandemic. I mean, in the February it sounds like the two parties were talking about. Ah, a new contract. And then after the pandemic hit, they show them now. I don't think I don't think they like you said. They may have to readdress it, make it make it come out some way that they were negotiating. They do. They're doing something, but I don't think the two parties Are they not impasse? They're just They're moving along and I'm just going to say this. It doesn't look, it won't look right trying to sign a coach. To a multiyear contract in a pandemic. Somehow it's got to be done, but Well, you know, you understand through all the financial things and everything that that's going on in the world today. It just doesn't look right. The ops won't look right. So I get with the university is trying to do too along with the athletic department. I mean, that's what I'm thinking, right? I think that's a great point. Because You are dealing with, um, kind of a touchy situation in that you've got an economy that has changed because of the pandemic and the response that you have had Shut things down. And so you know, that's a that's a very valid point that Ah Doing a Whatever it might be $67 million a year contract. Will turn some heads and maybe draw you the kind of attention you don't want. The flip side is actually getting it done. And sending that message again. Two recruits and families and everyone out there that You can't be negative negatively recruited on the fact that your Ah Ko ship doesn't have much time left on his deal. Yet John and Jamie, you know to me, I looked at it, and I think Jamie makes a great point. You you know, talking about this being a touchy situation because of the economy and specifically about how universities are losing so much money this year, and they have the layoffs and everything else. I thought you still have to conduct business here and you still have to get this done. If me if I was word manual, I was just announced a next tension before the opener here against Minnesota. And I would talk to Jim and say, Can we put a 10 20% Not easy for me to say pay cut, But I think inside of that you're thinking, Hey, it is the pandemic. Also, you know, he was a top three top five paid coach and I hasn't quite lived up to that. And so you're I don't know if Jim accept that or not, but in the same contract, you could stay over these four years. If you end up Getting to Indianapolis if he ended up winning that game instead of a 10 20% pay cut. We're talking about a 10 20% raise over what you had. It seems like it would meet both sides there. I don't know if you feel like that would be lowballing Jim Harbaugh because of No. The contract and came in on. I'm not sure how he feels about that. I don't care how you feel about that, Jonah. Does that seem like it makes a little bit of sense there, or do you find that like that could be You know, taking the coach and you know his ego are you know that he might like in business? You don't normally whatever your whatever that number is. You know you're expected to get that number and Mohr, you know, not taking up a couple you factor in those other things like the pandemic. You absolutely do. And I think that anybody understand that At this point, you want to. Ah, do the best deal that you can, but you understand that these are different times. For everybody and a lot of people. Ah, don't even have worked at this point, and it's It could be a touchy situation..

"Yeah, I mean that. I mean, Eli Brooks would be the the one guy, but I mean Do we have a backup for Eli Brooks? I mean, you know as well as I do. Ah, Look what happened to eggs a viewer last year. I mean, He had to sit out. He had missed a couple games. So, um, you know, and here I was. There we do We have. Do we have a backup point guard to do that spot in case something happens to Eli. Yeah, I think it's the Smith that I mentioned. The transfer that has has been through it before can certainly handle the ball. Can ah, can shoot from deep has a really nice sweet, long range shot and, ah, it has the experience. You know now he's gonna have to come in hitting the ground running and I know where the floor running. I'm sure that he has been Ah, learning Juwan Howard's offense in the off season and but he needs to be ready to go. From a mental standpoint and be able to do things that that it takes to Ah to run the show efficiently in this offense, and so you know that that would be your guy there. Dan. John, Who is it going to be tomorrow? Ah, Martelli and And John Marie, You know what do you got planned I leave my schedule open these days because you never know who you're going to get and when, but it's It's a It's a different world. I got it. I got it for you right now. It's the players. I think it's tomorrow. The players, Mike, Sam, you still and quickly pay about that. Oh, One for me side of the football and a couple of really good ones. I'll tell you what you know, I think one of the keys Tio, Michigan. Early in the season is going to be that defensive front seven because you're breaking in a quarterback. You're breaking in an offensive line, getting them to play together. I just think that, uh, that front seven is going to be a really, really pee. Tio how it goes in the early part of this season. I think the front Michigan's defence in Front seven is going to determine the outcome of the opener at Minnesota. If they play really? Well. Michigan wins If they don't I think you could be coming home on one. Last question, John. I'm sorry. I'm stealing this one. But I mean, you heard Don brown on the radio on inside Michigan football. I mean, he was he was gushing about this defensive line. He was gushing about this defense. Almost saying it's probably it could be one of his best defense is was that just coaches speech? Or is that is he really believe in that? Well, I think what he knows is going in. He has got one of the best defensive end combos in the country in Aden Hudson quit he pay You know, you can take that to the bank. You can count on those guys. He's seeing the guys come along behind him. He knows he's got a little depth there. He's got much more up the middle, then he did a year ago. And we talked about this sum last week. Ah, with Christopher Hint and ah and ah, these these other young men to go along with Carlo Kemp are just, um, really advancing and really ready to go. He mentioned Mozzie Smith. Ah, ah as coming along, and some of these other guys That I think they're going to be stronger up the middle than they were a year ago. You've got veteran linebackers, certainly in the inside spots, and ah, in camera grown one of the better linebackers into big 10. Now have a full year under his belt and knows what it's like to play in the Michigan State game knows what it's like to play against Wisconsin, Ohio State, So I think what Dan Brown nose is That he has got a front seven. That's going to be able to hold its own against the run and going to be able Teo really put some crushed around the quarterbacks for the most part. So I think he's got Ah, he's got confidence for a reason. Now. Bottom line is you're going to play very good defense. I think for the bulk of the season, what are you going to do in that last game? How are you going to step up? How is it going to be better when it needs to be better than most? And Ah, you know, I think that's going to determine the ultimate good too great. In any Michigan defense, but particularly this year. Well, John. Thank you. We could do this all day. I mean, it's been great, but we won't pick you apart. We enjoy our time and we'll talk to you next week. Always fun talking to you guys. Thanks for having me. Thanks, John. That's John board with Wolverine. He's got his ear to the ground and look at him versatile the day Football a basketball That's what I'm talking about. I was ready for the basketball. It was Denis who told me basketball was talking. I mean, wow, Now I've got to get geared up. Gotta start reading up. I'll get my preview issue way need to goto a break. We come back. We're gonna break it down even further. I need to talk more about these running bags. You're listening to the M. So this is the zone. The next step for your business is finding a.

"I want to think about that for you. I got a couple of months, but Don't do that Colonel on on last Saturday at the moment of you know my last time. I appreciate all the practices that I get in the stadium as much as I did on game day, But now you know being Teo to run from that couple work and Carla before we let you go. We're talking to senior Carlo camp on the defense of line Captain Carlo Kemp. When you think about the work that you have had to do we heard from coach Harbaugh that you guys have put in so much work and made so many sacrifices. What has it been like in on campus for you as a student? For your teammates and just describe some of the work and the sacrifice that you guys have had to make just to get to this point. Yeah, I mean, it really goes back to when I came back here in June of there, Steven. You know, at that point, the location we're still moving forward and the over there, you know, Written and practicing and lifted and We all came together, move bought into if we want to play a season one Could not get shut down one of my games and created practice and do everything normal. You know, you've got to be as disciplined and a state of Boston and that meant if that meant not doing from the normal things like we like to do in the summer time, which is go to the lake. Have had big barbecues. As you know, Whole defense is on the line. You can't do it, and that was something really bought into. You know, guys would come in the facility. Trending worked out. Do everything we had to do here and then we would just go home. And you know, it did kind of it was maybe a bummer that You know, at a time that you see me. I'm your best friend only working out only when we were doing fieldwork, but it got us to this point. We've done really well having As a minimum guys tested positive and pressed it to your guys out serious and how undisciplined we are, too not just for ourselves, but we're really trying to do it to keep everybody else You know everybody else. On the team safe and your part here in the community, and that should carry a witnesses who've gotten back and I think Now with the season, you know, being firms and playing going in a heightened people attentiveness beating back too, and just continuing on staying on the path I've been doing and If that means like I said, you can do some things that you like to do is going to think that we're used to doing it. You know, going out to a restaurant food, you know? We've been doing a lot of adore Dash will big board Ash High's Wade I hear facility but It's definitely been something had to, you know, change away the limit, but this is what we love to do. We love to play football and Not really so much sacrifice when you think about it, because it's just something we want to be loved for it. You know it's our life so Something you love to do guys sacrificing a lot. Well, Carl. Oh, I can't wait to watch number to take the field. I'm so excited for you, your teammates all of them, but especially for you guys. The seniors. Eso enjoy the moments that you have ahead of you and ah I can't wait to talk to you again. Thanks for your time. Thank you. No problem, John. You could hear it oozing out of Carlo camp. He is giddy about what is a second lease on life of this 2020 season..

"Back here on Michigan Football classics before we put a bow on this 2005 Michigan Penn State game. Let's hear from one of our favorites on the current roster. That's defensive lineman Carlo Kemp. John caught up with Carlo moments after the Big Ten's announcement on Wednesday, but the football season will begin in the Big 10 on October. 23rd and 24th. Here's that conversation. Captain Kemp. What is your feeling today knowing that we have an opportunity to play big 10 football. I can't even describe. You know how I feel right now. I'm just so happy and just so thankful that I woke up today and I kind of knew something when drunk when I woke up and My phone usually has, you know zero messages on it may be wanted. But today I woke up, you know, five calls 100 messages. Things were going off on Instagram. I was like, Okay, I gotta take my phone. Something's going on today and everything was just repeating itself. Congratulations. Season going Brann football Ah Defense line. Chad had no claim that news and then we're playing coach knew it. I mean, so everything was just leading towards you know, we're playing and see it resized, and it's confirmed. And then I turn on the TV and it's all over. It's the end of the big 10 network. It's like, okay, we're really plan right now. You know the drive here today I was about minutes away was just like music blasting and just feeling so good. I can only imagine. Um And and, honestly, if I just said, Hey, thanks a lot. Go blue and we ended it right there. That would be all I needed because I same thing here is when you get the news. I'm literally still trying to catch my breath because of the excitement and what was for you because you you do have the opportunity to get those messages. You you turn on the TV, But we've seen this especially over the past week where There's this vote coming or, you know, football's going to be back. And then all of a sudden, you hear a counter report. What's the last week been like for you and your teammates? Yeah, so know this week was more of the positive outlook. Versus going back to August. We were kind of thinking It was the same mentality where it was more negative, which was, you know, he's getting cancel that getting close and then cancelled, Okay? And taking it back. You know, Saturday or even that Friday, we're all here. And that's when I think the new start to pick up on guys. They're gonna be born over the weekend and from him personally, I approached as You know, we'll find out when we find out um because we already been through something so similar so soon, and which was kind of more sad news with the cancellation or the postponement. And so I just took it. As you know, we'll find out when we find out and whatever happens, it's gonna be positive so Ah, you know, Saturday came that they came there. A lot of Ah, lot of chatter on Sunday. They're voting on a secret meeting Sunday. Everyone get together have a secret meeting with both. And, you know, I just kind of I didn't want to pay attention to what intention to it. Ah, Monday came we're here. Today's Tuesday came and you wake up today and kind of people. I may gather up all the news that's been going on. You know, you know, it's really when you're coaching there, that that's how you know it. It's certified and ah validated today and On now, everything everything seems so good. And so, Gary, please back but opposed to me bag. So at the beginning of this, I had a chance to talk to your mom and she came on the on the podcast here. And for those that don't remember. Peach Pagano is is Carlo camps. Mom and Um have you had a chance to talk to Mama P. Ah, and what's been her reaction to you guys? You get the chance to play your senior year now, yet I texted violent Texan and then She's already got her Instagram and her jazz of full head until Michigan game, so I know she's excited. Ah, I haven't gotten a chance to get on the phone texting. You know, you can let go, just repeating that back in each other's felt. She's excited and you know, I'm very excited, and I'm very thankful that I did opposite it. You'll have the senior year and Be able to play and have my family, you know, Watch me when we were trying and take the field against thoughts on the reported schedule. It's going to be the weekend of October 23 24. Um, eight games. Obviously the championship game to follow, but also with the added caveat that everybody gets that extra game you No one's going to play against one East, East and West in the championship game, then two and 23 and three all the way down the line. Just your initial thoughts on the scheduled I'm guessing by your response. This is the first you've heard of it. No, that was, uh, That was the first time I heard of the schedule of I mean, work. I'm sitting here and I understand. I'm so happy that I get to play. So a game nine game. Um, However, they do the seating at the end. Extra, you know, blessed and B. I don't You know the number of games, is it? Anything for me and you're being a play and the giving of 18 9 games and then I'll take it. I'm so happy. I'm so thankful that you know. The commissioner. Ah, listen. And was able to Ah, they'll find a way to get it back and you're safe way to play and thanking the president, too. You know, change his vote and let us old place, So I'm very thankful for this opportunity that also guys are giving us right now. And you know something that will you and I have talked about have touched some your teammates about is perspective, knowing that At some point, this was completely taken away in a matter of moments, and you're sitting there thinking, you know what just happened now, all of a sudden, a matter of moments, it's back. How is this changed your perspective on on on how you may feel when you run out of the tunnel that that late weekend in August in October Ah, well, going back to Ah, no Saturday the practice in the in the stadium and obviously your helmets right now and You know, walking through that tunnel was kind of like a better treat. Because at that moment, anything guarantee, and there really wasn't anything coming up, and it was sure You know, the season post calling to cancel so You know, I was walking through that tunnel and I was kind of by myself. Everybody else you know, will be there front and behind me, but I was just kind of mean walk in, and it was just like Man. I Impounding your sad realization that this might be the last time and I might have already done my last time back in last November, you know, come out in the tunnel and picture where the band is and Listen. The fight song hasn't painted as we were walking down the tunnel in the fans right there screaming, and it was kind of sad for me and I only our yellow period, but You know, now, I don't think about that moment anymore, You know, Because now with field live and never there will be there and we plan I hope And I want.

"Look, you coach Carr with the old line Just shout out. John Jansen here is that he starts to tear up a little bit. I don't know if I There's no crying in football. But that's you know what? When you hear Coach Carr Talk on DH. This as a player is one of the most frustrating things that you hear from a coach after a game. Hey, you want to celebrate? You want to hit a great Michigan victory? It's a fight down to the end. Great performance by chance. Any the offensive line freshman Mario Manningham stepping up the defense doing what they've got to do. But he always throws in that We gotta win two in a row. We gotta win next week. I'll look ahead to what's coming because they know up into that point. It'd alternated starting off with a win loss to Notre Dame Win lost to Wisconsin win lost Minnesota. Now you get a win against Penn State. You've got it. You've had to handle dealing with those lows. Now you gotta handle dealing with those highs. Those kids are going to celebrate their going to enjoy it, and they're gonna have that little bit of irritated nous. When they think about coach Carr saying, We gotta win two in a row Coach. Come on, let us celebrate. This one can't do it quick moment of elation, and then it's on to the next week. I will pivot back to here and now when we come back and chat with Captain Carlo Kemp about the news this week. The Wolverines will have the opportunity to make some Henny to Manningham like memories in 2020 Big 10 football returning October 24th. And Carlo Kemp discusses it next. You're listening to Michigan football from Clearfield MG College. Before my 17th birthday. I lost my sister and mom to cancer. And then I got it, too had 30 weeks of chemotherapy and several surgeries to remove the tumor and repair.

"Talk. 7 60, W. J. R. There has been a lot of blow back to the Big Ten's canceling football. Another ball sports. As it did not too long ago, along with the Pac 12 and others. Some of the parents of football players on you of EMS team, for example and others. Come out and say No, We want our kids to play. One of them is on the line with us right now. Jenny Peach. Pagano is the mother of you of them, Captain Carlo Kemp and joins us from. I think she's in her vehicle somewhere. Hi, Jenny. Thank you for coming out with us. Time it. How are you? Good to speak with you? So I think one of the one of the things that people thought Assumed is that mothers and parents of the players would be the least likely to want them to necessarily play because they'll be worried about their health. But apparently there are a number of parents who who feel that it is safe. Tell us about your thought process on this. Well, I, uh, you know, First of all, I just wanna say that I'm a caregiver. So I take Cove. It 19 very seriously and work in the inter industry. So I'm you know, right there in the middle in the mix of it. But as things have transpired here lately, you know that I just didn't We didn't agree that we had enough information for them to come to this decision. And in my belief fifth, um I come from a football family. I'm a daughter of a football coach, and it's inbred in us, and I feel that you know, my son is at risk every time he steps out onto the field. You know, and honestly, it just It just doesn't add up. What? And believe me. I am very concerned about Cove in 19. I pray for the souls that have passed away. It's very serious. But on the same hand, why how did we get here? What? What? Give that gentlemen. You know the decision to say no football. Talk about the commissioner Kevin Warren of the Big 10. So I don't think in fairness to him. I don't think he made it unilaterally. Don'tthink, he said, you know, I'm just going to sit here and and say no to this and everybody else is saying yes, I think there are a lot of people scientist, medical advisers, infectious disease doctors who advised him and all the rest and other people within all the assorted programs. But you're right. He made the final call on it. Although he was not alone. There are many, many conferences around the country who have canceled not just another big one, The Pac 12 but other smaller ones as well. The Ivy League and Stanford and other things like that, so What was your understanding of how you of them was going to handle Testing and and quarantining and all that. That made you confident that your son Carlo camp would be okay? It was excellent Fair Coast. Barba was over the top and their staff and medical staff and doctors communication. You know, making sure that you know they were tested three times a week. Staying in their groups of 10 following the rules, you know, Of course, I had hesitation when he came back and, you know, had a long in depth conversation with post Carbaugh and you know, wanting him back in June, and it was like, okay. You know, Let's get ready for this. And you know honestly, at that time that was it was a difficult time because of the You know, Black lives movement and the death of your exploits was really on my heart. You know for my son and you know, there was a lot of stuff going on in that fine, but As the weeks went on. I mean, it was I my son was the safest in the bubble at Michigan football, but it isn't but it but it isn't really a bubble. In the way that the N B A is a bubble, because once they once they kids come back onto campus. They're not going to be living in the facility there. They're going to be living in their dorms or apartment so wherever they are, and they're going to go to classes Or walk around campus. They're going to be mixing and mingling with kids who aren't necessarily under the same tight control as a football program, right? Right? Absolutely. And that is the risk that you you know that they're going to have to take the university by allowing his back. You know for false but are you less concern? Are you less concerned that He is not going to get it at all or that Well, if he gets it, you know, it's not going to be the end of the world other than the kids, you're young, and so that should be the reason. For football to be Scheduled All right. I'm not concerned. I just our belief system in the way he takes care of himself and you know on a daily regiment and doesn't expose himself in situations where he would put himself in harm's way. I just I have 100% confidence that That he would not get it, but I wouldn't get it. So, your your your your your your mohr that he's not going to get it. I'm not worried that he's going to get a knot that will look if he gets it. It's not going to be that serious, Their kids and their healthy and they'll be okay. You're convinced that he won't get it. Well, I'm not saying I would be convinced, because at least They were maintaining the protocol. They were doing what they were asked by their coaches and staff, providing safety and following the rules. Now, once game one happened, And if there was exposure, and if other schools weren't doing what we were OK, then you know, But what? How did we get here? You know what was the reasoning and I just I just know he takes care of himself. What's the big downside for families and for the individual players, especially if they do end up playing a spring football season instead of the fall? Well, I think the Yeah. I mean, the downside for us. Is that my son's 1/5 year senior. And so he was, you know, anticipating a great year. Coming up and the downside for spring, although we take it if they had it, Um you know, it just pushes back his post and dream of the NFL and whatever that may look like You know, it's just it would be difficult. Don't you think that especially if the other three power conferences end up? Canceling even if they start the season, and they find because the one thing we have to all admit is nobody knows. How this translates or transmits in a football game because nobody has played football. They've had some practices. But nobody has had a game and so until people actually line up and breathe on one another, whether it's the NFL or college. Nobody really knows how this spreads. But if the other two conferences end up canceling Of the other three. Don't you think that the NFL will end up making some adjustments for people like your son pushed back? The combine dates push back the draft date so that players if they play in the Spring League will still have time to do all those things and achieve their NFL dreams. I would hope so..

"Well, a CZ your reported just now. I saw nothing on that field the last couple times. So you nailed it on the head. That's that's about it now. Ah! And this isn't even my report. I mean, this is Amanda Leak of a She reported yesterday that there were still you know, I mean, like that now, various reports here but like, you know, They're they're doing 12 hours a week. Now I believe instead of 20, or at least that's going to be the case. I don't know why the villa or the Big 10 rather I was like, Yeah, no 12 12 hours a week now instead of 20. Just let him have the 20 hours a week that they would have had I don't really see the Big deal there, but I mean, there's still there's still engaged there. And as Anjali reported, they're doing combine type things and they're gonna have AH, have an actual combine at the Big House on October 24th. So they're giving them something to work hours for two, but I mean, there's still there's still involved. Don brown just tweeted out 25 minutes ago that Julius Welsh off was due to the day and, Ah Jackson Hill was ah, not not to do but a guy. For the day and that they're still going. It. Uh, obviously isn't the same as that normally would be. And ah, lot of these times when I'm walking, walking by, like at the start of practice, I take very for a walk around the big house and around the athletic campus, but I see them out on the field and you know, going at it. Haven't seen that even when I've gone out similar time, So I'm not really sure exactly how they're splitting it up now compared to how they were before when they were in. Can't load before the big 10 cancelled everything or Shortly shortly after the big 10 cancel everything when they were still kind of in the same spot as faras getting to work, but Vera. I mean, they're they're still trying to find ways to keep the guys engaged. And I think that's the best that you conduce. You must get this juncture. Accept reality for what it is. And a zoo When we talked to Carlo Kemp and Miku banks, you know they they were earlier this week. They both were like you were We're still working on football things because the worst thing you can do is just kind of sit back and let you know. Let all of this happened to you and not get better. You can use it as an opportunity to go and get better at football. Yeah. Hey, Isaiah. That's that. That's a good idea for what they're doing here. As you were talking And Looking at this offensive line. I was trying to come up with Ah, left to right if they had to come out with one today. Now that you know that Jalen Mayfield there's a vacant spot over there, right tackle. It seems to me there's only two spots that I could pen in here pretty quick and I'd be Ryan Hayes. Left tackle. He had a couple starts there last year, and probably Zack Carpenter at center. Other than that, would you would you put Ah, I like Nolan Rummler there at One of the guards spot is that how you would start to do it? We start looking at Ah, the interior offensive line. I mean, not yet. I mean, I feel like his time is definitely coming and they've been really high on him since he was a recruit. I think we have to see what happens to Chuck Philly Aga, especially delay. Phil Iago would be a guy that I would pencil in at one of the one of the guards spots for sure as it stands right now. But Then then, then you start having questions because I talked to somebody that you know, is close to the program after Jalen left. Oh, and I got a couple names that they mentioned and Trevor Keone was the first name that came out of their mouth..

"Hey we're back to install alive at the press about the twenty six South Main street in downtown Ann Arbor it's gone from a little bit of snow this morning so now it's sunny quite a bit prettier he here at in downtown Ann Arbor this to be the place to be to watch Michigan and watch the big ten tournament and the NC double a tournament the next couple of weeks you can watch the games of fellow Michigan fans I've been here for multiple ansible turn the games over the last five years and the atmosphere in here is just is in the words of Brenda brown let's I don't say that word birds nope on fire the adult sure Joe it's just a lot of fun in here it's usually jammed in the downstairs sports bar by the team time at the tip off that takes place and people are celebrating it's it's like being in a in the state of being in the student section while you're watching the game I was just so much fun so highly recommend next week with the big ten tournament starts certainly the ants will turn it in a couple of weeks come on down to the price of on the corner of liberty and main street in downtown Ann Arbor all right John and we we did this last week we haven't had a chance to get to it this week it's the what do we think we know what's your number one question and what's your spring the prediction and we'll start with the defense of line Sean knew a spoke in the trenches podcast last week a little about his defensive line across top of course talk about the eight hundred cynically pay the good things the Carlo Kemp has done for the Wolverines and then after that developing the depth at the position brand will start with you what do you think you know about the defensive line I mean I think I know that the starting for is going to be really good I think Chris Hinton is ready to take that job he's finished his he finished his true freshman season playing thirty eight snaps against Ohio state and thirty six snaps against Alabama which was the most of any interior defensive lineman in that last game with Carl okay about due to injury so he's he's ready he's ready to step into that spot he's going to be probably the most physically imposing defensive lineman at three hundred and I don't know where he'll be you know come fall probably north of three fifteen if I had to guess he was listed at three or five or three oh six as a true freshman when the season started so I think the front four is gonna be really good you've got eight Hutchinson including pay on the two ends and you've got Carlo camping and Christopher hidden in the middle that's that's a really good that's a really good front four but it's that depth behind them it's a lot of question marks and kind of jumping in the second question is just who is going to be who who who can you count on there's a lot of bodies there's a lot of names you can throw out there but a lot of guys who haven't done much who have played a lot Mazi Smith being one of them Donovan Jeter being another Luigi the lane some of these underclassmen guys we haven't seen at all Julius wealth off David job also there's a lot there's a lot of what ifs in a lot of question marks behind a what I think will be a truly truly solid starting for I don't you know depending on the the the match up and depending on the different packages it's it's a little bit a little bit disingenuous to call them the starting for but I think you'd be pretty safe in saying that those four guys will be on the field the first play on defense every week barring you know injury knock on wood hopefully we don't have we don't have to talk about that because that would put a big dent in the death but I think the I think the front four is going to be as good as anybody in the big ten R. eight Zach what do you think you know about the defensive line what is your biggest question in the spring and what's your prediction yeah it's gonna it's gonna sound pretty pretty darn similar I mean that's that's kind of how it goes I think the I think I think the starting for is the best in the big ten I've I've taken a peek around lot a lot of good defensive ends and edge rushers are leaving the big ten actually this year Grossman does die young obviously we talked about him happen as a I'm looking around I don't see a better big ten defensive line and obviously that can change I mean that Kerr isn't going to be a beast I'm I'm sure Penn state has some five star book high four star that's that's rated takeover same time this is a really really strong group I think it has everything they want to have a little bit the star power in eighteen Hutchinson and Chris Hinton has a little bit of the veteran dependability equity pay and Carlo Kemp the camp I would just say I mean he is not Nestle is explosive I don't think he's ever going to be like a mo Hurst type that's really just breaking the game open for Michigan we had forty two tackles last season that's a lot for a defensive tackle and that's that's someone who's reliable I think we call that a senior surge what he was doing in late October and early November but now he's back for a nother senior year so yeah I think I think it's thirty four is the best in the big ten I think I know that for sure of my my big question is they recruited a lot of project recruits this is one of the more fascinating things I'm gonna be just looking at this spring they you know Greg Mattison brought a lot of guys in who were supposed to be your three guys Taylor Upshaw died started football age what fifteen David Jovel played ten games in high school period Julie's Welsh office from Germany not that that missile I mean he's a proud but he always what's he always with someone that with like okay we're gonna build these guys the we're gonna build these guys out of clay it's worked before I mean Michigan has a history of guys third fourth year is when they really break out our defensive line standouts but at the same time they need a couple of them now in a I think I've I'd argue Luigi the lanes a little bit of a project is missing so much time to head back to back basically season ending injuries UMass Smith was highly were touted but he's also someone that if they need they need maybe three guys to have take take major steps forward I'm not sure who they are that's that's kind of part of the question but they recruited basically for the some of these guys to step up this season so who does who who answers the call that's that's my big question I'm trying to do it there's a couple other bodies are missing on the on that line Mike Morris maybe gate a couple other CW burgers there yeah yeah yeah because a lot of guys who were very much like well they won't do much in year one but the next year though the really step up my my prediction for the line this I guess the best in the big ten what could counter the prediction my prediction is that this time next year I I want to do like a Christine when I I think he I think I don't want to predict that he's going to be better than Hutchinson I'm gonna predict that he is going to be the second best defensive linemen this season so maybe that I don't know maybe that's not that bold actually but I think I mean I'm hearing a lot of the same buzz I heard about a not something where it's just it's almost like automatic about he's going to be good it's just a matter of it all big ten a third team all big ten first team maybe even higher but that might be further down the road but I think I think he's gonna have a really strong season one thing to note for Brandon pointing out that he played the most snaps on defense of tackles injuries are part of that but at the same time he is he's playing a lot more than a lot of defensive tackles do in Michigan's history I mean there there aren't there aren't a ton of true freshman defensive tackles who stand out so I think for him to already kind of be trending up and we finish the season with more tackles than everyone but camp as far as the teas are the I think there's I think there's a lot on the horizon for him so maybe that's my prediction he he lands on some variation some some form of all big ten whether it's honorable mention I know that you know at this point they basically give everyone one but it's honorable mention thirteen I think he's going to be a breakout player for Michigan all right so that was acts of three things so I'm looking at what is my what do I know about the defensive line you guys made some really good points I think we know that in Hutchinson in a touch as an equity pay you have to first team all big ten likely performers you know eight Hutchinson you know is going to take that next that that next step and just become a dominant defensive and we're gonna have to see but I I think what you know is you've got the bass bookends in the big ten by far right now what so what I want what I want to know is and I don't think you can really answer this question the spring honestly because last spring at this time all the hype was about Donovan Jeter this and Donovan Jeter that and a little bit about like Mazi Smith is early enrollee and what he's capable of and then we can see either one of those guys make a impacted all Mazi Smith played in one game I think it was for snaps are Donovan Jeter earlier this season he missed the game you know he he coach's decision sounds like that the set out he came back didn't really play into the point where they were using banned Mason on the road at Wisconsin I very very undersized defensive tackles the putting down of Jeter and there was two hundred ninety five pounds at defensive tackle he got a little bit a run later on in the year but not very much so my biggest question is in a kind of piggy backs off of what Jack was asking about like who's gonna rise up as yet the defensive tackle spot I agree with you guys at camp and Christensen I think you can feel pretty good about what does Jeter or Mazi Smith in two thousand twenty rise up and give you that type of depth on the interior that can really help Michiganders and view what they have banned the beauty work from two thousand fifteen eighteen where they're just rolling eight guys in and out we talked well hiding earlier in the week he said you know one of the really big strength of Michigan special defensive line is is those coaches Greg Mattison with sales guys Hey I need you to give your your hundred percent for to place not for eight plays not pretend plays for two plays and then I'm gonna take you out put somebody in there who's gonna give it a hundred percent for three plays and Michigan and have that a year ago were the only the fifth line that they were using consistently throughout the year with Mike Danna and that wasn't Chris Hansen the last couple weeks of the regular season where he was getting all of the run is that's six defense alignments that's my question is is will Donovan Jeter or Mazi Smith stepped up this year and again how much we know about that in the spring probably not a lot because they were get that type of hype a year ago my prediction for the defense of line position that you guys vote tomorrow really good ones already I think that it's Michigan's starting for you said will be the best in the big ten my prediction is that at some point in two thousand twenty Carlo camp moves from being a starter to being a backup somebody rises up with a little bit higher ceiling and takes the job away from Carlo camp I could be dead wrong about that if he's listening right now maybe he put that chip on his shoulder uses that for motivation to really get going can I when we come back we'll get to look yes shows is the same just because you're predicting do you have a prediction for who it might be I mean you said that was a big question is who rides up at defensive tackle you mean are you hearing buzz about anybody that could pass him no this is just a stab in the dark this is just a idiotic moronic Michael Spafford just going out there and throw it out there I mean I think you'd like it to be Mazi Smith yeah the other three hundred plus pounder that you have a front highly touted very athletic is more of the mo Hurst get in the backfield cause some disruption get after the quarterback tackle for loss guy than Carlo camp so I mean he's the obvious choice it's just it's Arafat called a shame but it is surprising that we saw him so little last year after what we thought we were going to see you know based on how he was talked about in his level of level of athleticism size and everything we heard about as a recruit so I mean he's who who else is even in a choice we only have like two bodies it's like Marty Smith and Donovan Jeter that's it and it hasn't happened for Jeter yeah I just don't know if it's going to.

"Thanks miss. All right. So we're continuing our six on six here. Oh programming notes. Mo-? Peterson is not joining us today. I kinda thought of being at twelve thirty right now that you probably wouldn't be here. Yeah. He had some come up. Right. So it'll be back next Tuesday. Michigan had a tough loss last night to Merrimack. Did you go to the game? Zach. I don't think I missed. They lost four two. It was one to one going in the third period. Yeah. So obviously it was a bad third period. For. Yeah. Merrimack end up scoring seventeen seconds into the third. And I think they'd tell it another one on later on before Michigan made it a three to two game. And then they Merrimack an empty net goal made a forty two, and that's how it ended side note on that one. I don't know how I felt about Doug cars. John gone that game. Oh, really? Yeah. Randall wasn't on the call. So you had you had Merican you had Doug Karsh on the call for that one. Not sure how I felt about that one. No one up. Well, no, not sure kind of a little different. I would have thought maybe Shep. But then he I know he's dealing with. You know, the situation with his wife and his son. I know his son is doing fine. His wife is is recovering. Sounds like everything is is is moving in the positive direction with with chefs wife, at least though, I would say this in glad to hear, you know, some positive news on shepherds match average family, but he can't do everything. No. I know. I just think that you know, when it comes to the whole next person to take over I think, immediately, my mind goes to match think of Matt I mean when you look at it, basketball and hockey they've got a lot of overlapping games. And so on. They have a hockey dedicated play by play guy, which L Randall was Ben for I don't how many years has been doing for quite a while. Yeah. For for for a bit here. But the Tuesday night. This is kind of a different situation. The only I mean, the only did you not like him at like he was bad. No, I I. The principle of it. I don't know. All right. No, I guess, you know, I guess Al was was under the weather. So I guess that's reason. Why? Yeah. But I mean like as far as the whole Tuesday thing, I mean, you've got the Mel show that happens on Tuesday over a principles. I mean, that's I think the only other reason why. But was it obvious to you because you obviously are play by play guy for eastern, Michigan hockey. And so you you do this. And you're hoping obviously we'd love to see you build it into something. So was your issue with it that Doug Karsh is not a play by play guy and got that opportunity or was it that it was just a bad play by play that you're listening to. I think it's I I think he's he's is not a play by play guy per se. But I mean, I'm not I'm not, you know, Disney on the guy for million on on the run sounds like you might be. The fault does not lie with the person the fault lies the person who made the decision to let him do it instead of someone such as well. I mean, I couldn't do it because I was back your as executive producer for women's basketball. But then again, I don't know where the hell I put my foot in the door to get a shot at it. You know, why I'll tell you. What miss? I'll I will see what we can do to help. You put your foot in the door to get a shot at something like that the next time done. I mean, you've done hockey, and he does Michigan baseball and softball, and when IRA isn't well the thing is about that. As we switched that up where it's just are out at the baseball and softball solo now. The one time. I think that he couldn't do it. That was when you took. Okay. Well, let's do it. How do you define Portia? Hey, well, considering that there was a there was a weather delay at that time too. So I mean, we had to do it makes the fixings on the run the thing that you're getting too though is what is for so many people in every business right is like how do I I'm working really hard? How do I get my opportunity? Right. And I will tell you that we have this. Great listenership, and so as they're listening right now. And you've got a lotta love from people that especially reckless people people like miss if the if the ability rate is like Michael sixty percent and Zach sixty one percent, that's probably MS like ninety eight percents. So you've got that. So we've got this. Great listenership, so there's somebody out there listening right now. This is like, hey, you know, maybe I can help miss out, but I'll do this too. I mean, we've got really good connections in Michigan hockey. I'm happy to pass that along and say, look, you guys have a you have a situation come up dogs a great guy. He can he he does a lot of things from Michigan. But there's other people in the market. That do do this that are play by play hockey guys. But we'll hook you up with one of them and give in for because you deserve it. You you work your your. You're gonna say I can say that word, but you work your rear end off. So we'll we'll help you get that you keep it rated. Say I work my ass off from Bill. He's a big dumb animal, folks. That's what I need right now. Talking about me anyway, regarding Michigan's loss dropped them to twenty eighth in the pair wise. Yeah. I mean Merrimack was towards the bottom of your two out of sixty. They've got some bad losses on their schedule this year, basically this weekend must win next weekend. Must-win basically, they gotta they gotta hit be even even better than last season to close the season to make the tournament. Yeah. And I wouldn't I don't think most people are expect them to. I think they'd have to win the postseason big ten tournament. If we had an honest conversation, or when we have an honest conversation. I mean, he would never say that because he's going to always be looking for the next game. It's what's focused on. But. Yeah, I mean like they had some they came into the year. They thought they had a goalie situation figured out. The situation has been back and forth. They needed some offensive players to ROY stop up with the. EMC line moving on Josh Norris has a little bit and Mike Nick passage off has. But really nobody else has stepped up offense. Like, they're great at controlling the puck and firing shots. They're not going in and edit certain point. That's not luck. That's not a goal. That's not the opposing goalie standing on their head every single weekend. That's that's finishing problem. Yeah. I mean, the the shooting percentages, you know, they've got a whole pepper. The nets mean hell the the Minnesota series the second game they hit fifty shots on net. But they only I think got three goals out of that game as well too. So I mean, you can tell that the shooting percentage is going to be extremely low. If you can't find the back of the net after fifty shots on goal. They don't have. So they've played three teams. I believe outside the top thirty of the pair wise with RPI extra four teams. Right because he played Michigan tack Michigan state, Vermont and Merrimack. I don't think they have a win over any of them. Wow. They've tied. Michigan state twice. I was gonna say, where's LS them? They think like states having a good year. Yeah. Like states in the top thirty. Oh there number. Yeah. They tied. Michigan state twice the lost to Michigan state once they lost Vermont and they lost to Merrimack enemy. Tide and lost in a shootout. Michigan tac. Yeah. They've had a few winnable games. That didn't go that. They didn't win or took to tie because I think in the pair wise whether you win the shootout or win over time tonight. This counts the tie. And so and the other thing keep in mind is harder to move up because the big ten isn't quite a stack this year. I mean, Wisconsin is twenty four Minnesota's twenty six. I think obviously Ohio State four Weena bowl this weekend. A sweep on the road at St. we do a lot. But also it's hard to come by twelve and four this year Notre Dame seven Penn State eleven so not quite as loaded as it had been in previous years. They do have to wins over Saint Lawrence who I guess is actually the worst team in college hockey. So. But yeah, I mean every they didn't win those games. I mean, I mean Avary golden opportunity they've had with the exception of beating Notre Dame in the in the outdoor game last weekend. They haven't been it'll take advantage of. It's just that they're having that type of season, and they're just they can't score and they have defensive lapses. And they've got a goalie problem with big the keep on going back and forth between the two they can't figure out which one is the right one. Because every time they give somebody an opportunity to run with it. He then has a game where he gives up four goals and looks bad. Yeah. Merrimack by the way for those listening at home who maybe don't follow Merrimack is six and fifteen this year. And they don't play in a conference like the big ten. So there they were. E you also have to imagine who's who's going to schedule a road only Tuesday game in the middle of January. You know, probably teams that want that don't have very many opportunities to to win. So they're look into you know, kind of spread their brand maybe pull off an upset here there because I think Meramec beat northeastern this weekend too. So yeah, pretty pretty tough loss. This is a this is like a basketball team losing to a MAC team kind of loss. All right. Let's get back six on six. The question was is Michigan's number one player going in two thousand nineteen. And who do you have is your top three players only ask question a year ago? The you had Patterson up there and Krahn Higdon. But I think two out of the top ten offense players. Yeah. Dramatic the year before that where I think it was like one out of the top ten was offensive player this year. You're going gonna see a lot more offensive guys because that's the strength coming back after the season. Absolutely. I think there might actually be more just because of who's establish there might be more offense of players in my top ten and defensive players. I mean, you know, just basically go position by position offense has a lot of multi your starters coming back defense does not. As far as my top player. I'm probably gonna go with shape Patterson because I think he was a top five player this season for Michigan. I know people are a little weary of his ballgame. Maybe some of the inaccurate throws. Maybe some of the the process time to decide what to do was a little slow. But I think I think if you're gonna if you're gonna harp on the bowl game in the Ohio State game. And arguably the Indiana game gotta look how sharp was against other good defenses in the big ten. So he's probably probably number one is doing most important. He would definitely be number one. Two and three. I'm actually gonna go Lavertu hill. And Ben Bredesen's. So I'm leaving out those receivers they're probably in the top ten possibly all three. Definitely Nico counts down in people's Jones. I'm leaving out maybe some other offense lineman first team all big ten lineman. Jon Runyan, John Rennie junior. I should say click Hudson. We just talked about him. He had a fantastic sophomore season junior season wasn't quite there in the same in the same way. I think Josh Mattel's really, I know again, it's like all of these things after I have the caveat. If you don't count the Ohio State and Florida games, but you do, but I still think Mattel took a step forward this year. I still I still like Carlo Kemp probably more than most do. I think the coaches are really like him. And he's he's someone I wouldn't count him out if they're doing four captains I wouldn't count them out as as someone who could get the nod because he's he's got that kind of presence with team. So was probably my top ten. So I would say to me the guy coming into two thousand nineteen. Probably gotta be gotta be Vert. I think mean, what was it hammer was David line that you had that that stead the rose David Hill did hold opponents to around a forty percent completion rate. I don't have the exact number. Okay. So I mean to me I think when it comes down to a he's probably to me the top guy coming back and what he wants. He wants to kind of go off on top of me. He could have he could have gone to draft easily this year and been a a decent pick along with David long. Obviously, I think she is probably in the discussion the top three as well too. I don't think it have them. And number two. I think to me number two, you might actually be the guy that we just mentioned in the last name weekly guts and..
"carlo kemp" Discussed on Attack Each Day: The Harbaughs' Podcast
"It was so much fun on Saturday night, but go back two years and the game ends on a phenomenal athletic interception by Jordan Lewis. Yeah, and Laverne hill said, step aside j. D. And that interception was now Carlo Kemp sets it up because he's got great pressure up the middle, and then it takes an athletic play by Liberato to make that catch and then bring it in and all of a sudden Jorge Luis. Okay. So maybe one of two graders in our biggest Wisconsin the last couple years because Laver's play was phenomenal. Defensive backs coach, much love that one showed his athleticism when you're when you're standing like ten feet away from a guy and you're, you're covering and all once you turn around that balls about three or four feet away from you. I mean, you have to have great hand eye coordination, you know, see that ball in and all at once there it's how many. Times have you seen that where they dropped the ball? Oh, yeah, simply because they aren't prepared and aren't enough of an athlete to to make that place all credit to him. Yeah, it was a phenomenal play and I know the fan, what my mentality was about ten thirty or eleven o'clock on Saturday. I know the enjoy the victory, but it was about ten thirty was after the pick six. You look at the scoreboard, you look at the clock and immediately my head turn to beat state. I'm assuming that in this building and you guys can talk to it because you're here every day that it was probably a pretty quick switch. Flip of the switch to those a great win. We're really enjoying it, but let's go beat state this. This one point as a coach, you're working math. You're looking at math twenty one point lead. They could get a quick one. They could get an the side. You're, I swear, you never have triple zero down to like the two minute Mark, and you're still like it's something crazy. Could have never ever assume. Now is with coach the doing a team meeting yesterday on Monday, and it's it's certainly a big week in a big big game. And I think everybody reckons recognizes that, but it's the next game. And the next game we play will be a next big game in the next game will be the next big game. And you know, certainly we want to own the state and everything that we do.
