2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics officially postponed until 2021
"We learned Tuesday morning. The two thousand twenty Tokyo Summer Olympics officially been postponed due to the cove in nineteen outbreak. And that means a lot of changes for Olympic athletes including US women's soccer star and two time. Gold medalist Carli Lloyd. Twenty twenty would have been carly's fourth time in the Olympic Games and with turning thirty eight in July potentially her last but she's putting off retirement for a chance to take home a third gold medal and Carly as joining us via skype. To tell us more and Carl I I just WanNa get your reaction when you heard that. The Olympics were officially postponed to twenty twenty one. Yeah I mean some crazy times going on. I think obviously Olympics is is every four years and so many athletes Spend their lives training and ready for this moment. So this is a this is a big deal for it to be postponed. I throws a wrench in many people's training schedule. And obviously rescheduling of that. But I'm just glad that it's not entirely cancelled and we will be all able to compete in it But yet it's crazy but I think it's definitely the right thing to do and You know midst all this Unprecedented pandemic going on and carly. You are a two time world player of the year a two-time World Cup champion. The only player to school the winning goal in two Olympics and on top of that all. You've been playing in the national team for fifteen years. I said you were not going to retire so I'm just but I'm just curious. Is there any question in your mind? You running through any scenarios about not continuing on for a sixteenth year to compete in Tokyo. No it's you know it's crazy. It's been an amazing journey. I would've never predicted any of this You know I've had the time of my life Training competing playing with my teammates It's been it's been a wild ride and while we were all looking forward to competing this summer I'm kind of finding a little bit of a silver lining in it. You know it's more time to prepare more time to get myself fit stronger Become better on the fields. And I think it's GonNa give me a another year or two to really leave it all out on the field. I wasn't sure what I was. GonNa do But another year sounds sounds pretty good so just have to keep grinding away and now you know what a great way to look at it because now you do have an extra year to prepare What are you and teammates talking about doing? In this year to prepare for the games to be extra ready while there's going to have to be some scheduling changes. I know the schedule was in place. getting ready to to compete. We had a couple of sendoff games coming up. Obviously are April Games were cancelled So we don't really have anything on this the schedule until June We don't know what's going to happen with this pandemic. Hopefully things start to slow down and everybody goes back to normal But we all are competing in our. Nwf Leagues The course of the summer and into the fall. So we'll have that and yeah I mean we're just GonNa have to Kinda You know take take each day as it comes and figure it out. But it doesn't throw a huge wrench into our schedule and training. We just get more time and it's been a good mental recharge For Myself and I'm sure all my teammates

"The year two time Olympic gold medalist as a matter of fact scoring the gold medal-winning learning goals in the finals in the summer Olympics in Beijing and then four years later in London first person to ever score three goals and AFIFA women's World Cup final. She did against Japan in two thousand fifteen and most importantly for you know if you don't mind for me also the first to do all that and be a correspondent on NFL. The grind on epic's tonight Wednesday nine eastern time helped to promote that and her work covering the Eagles in Patriots. None other than Carli. Lloyd how are you carly good. Hey guys doing. How'd you like the Being part of the `Paparazzi covering of football contests Luke Perry It was very interesting. It was obviously a a new experience for for me But I really enjoyed it. You know I I'm like of course I can't do this Usually I'm the one getting interviewed but no it was It was a lot of fun. Find I'm really glad I did it. It was definitely Adami wheel or a little bit but It was great. I I thought it was fantastic and enjoyed it all right so let's walk through a are the eagles your team. If you have one carly or that your team would you say are yeah. I've been Been Affiliate Sports Fan. My whole life JUST GROWING UP OVER THE BRIDGE NEW JERSEY. So I've always rooted for for all the sports teams I would say you know football watching. The Eagles is probably My my second sport that I watched the most besides shocker. Okay and so obviously being around the eagles then would be something uncomfortable for you to and I imagine you know Zach. Ertz is well through your teammate. Julie correct would that be a safe assumption definitely. Yeah it was it was great to To be a part of that I mean I met I think I met everybody in the you know the top executive in In the office For the eagles it all on the sideline and and of course of An hour so it was It was really cool to kind of be able to see You know what everything entails. I mean it's obviously only way different. That soccer game there's way more people It was really it was really cool and Zach was Gracious enough for me too. You know kind of bug him I know As an athlete. You've got a routine and I I definitely didn't WanNa you know kind of You know mess. It's up any sort of routine he had but he was very gracious enough and he's a great Guy Class Guy One of the best tight ends and He's been and exciting to watch he's come to Philly. Haven't seen the finished product yet. That's on tonight it Wednesday nine eastern time. I've got a link on my on my phone right now. Be Checking it out later. Ford airs tonight on Ethics. But have you. Did you cross paths with any patriots as well. I didn't I mean you know you gotta tip your hat off to the Patriots I know there's you know if I said this in front of Eagles fans they'd probably They'd probably start throwing things at me. But Yeah you've gotTA He's got to respect people that are really good at what they do. And so I have a huge amount of respect for Ballot check in and Tom Brady. didn't get to meet with them. But you know maybe our paths will cross at some point But you know it was. I thought the Eagles were going to do it. At one point This unfortunate to to not come away with it but I thought you know Given the game had a had a good game and Caught some some good catches that were important and You know he oh you did what he could do so it was. It was good to see Karl Lloyd here on the rich Eisen show one piece of video that I have seen on including one that I just showed on on the here here. was you attempting. What appeared to be twenty seven yard field goal In a sweater coat and runners and we we didn't see the result but we saw the Kirk and it looked it looked true carly It did yeah Took probably five or six. Those they all went one in the upright Enough enough that was that was good. I didn't have my obviously my normal tire on but yeah you know believe it or not. It's there's obviously a lot of other things that You know a bit challenging with the big men on the line and people running out you but I've I have done it in pads and a helmet from get did the two step So I've I realized that I can. I can do it with with all that stuff so it's just a matter of you know fine tuning some things and then Seeing where we're at me first and foremost I'm focusing on soccer right now. I want to be a part of the Olympics. Summer but You know anything's possible. So in that regard because again it we saw video of you doing get in training camp And crushing it and then a serious conversation did break out I mean were you close to signing with an NFL team carly yeah it was pretty close Had To you know to offers to play in the fourth preseason game I mean that would have been the most ideal scenario. Reo given the Larger roster that they have but I had a little bit of a dilemma because I had a game myself at the link so I wasn't able to do it but Yeah it was. It was pretty crazy. I mean I I got home and in the car I think an hour after the kicking you know next thing I know no. It's it's gone viral. There's there's people wondering what team I'm going to sign for and You know kind of getting some of these these calls from Couple of teams so so it was. It was a pretty pretty crazy moment. I'd say you know it's still somewhat going on. There's still some of that buzz but you know it was. It was non dot for her several weeks after the kick our bet I bet so which teams knocked on your door? Carli Lloyd been keeping that keeping that between myself and my husband for now nobody Nobody knows yet. What on a PRI- any of them in the eastern time zone eastern time time zone teams knock on your now another in this country? So that's all I nine. Yeah there's no there's nobody outside the country in the NFL okay Is it an animal team was a team in animal of. Can you give me that. I don't know can't can't can't disclose okay so then so then you wondering okay. So when was the last time then. So so let's just put it this way. It is something that should say next year. Roll around you get through the Olympics that you would entertain If a team was also as serious as you were on the subject for you to try and literally make a national football league team and do so this is a professional national football league player. Yeah totally Yeah I mean I you know I don't this isn't just a publicity stunt or something something that You know having fun just kind. Of stringing the media long I know that I can you know do it. I know that I have the mental capacity acidy in pressure situations. I know that there'd be loads of people that would want to really fail That's no different than the entire The the entirety of my career Loads and loads of people never thought that I keep kick could get to this point as well in my soccer career so Yeah I definitely want to entertain it But I WANNA be good at it and I want to be able to do it and that's that's ultimately what it comes down to and if I can help cut a pioneer in breakdown some doors for other women in the future That would be amazing. Well I I gotTa tell you Karl Lloyd I have a six year daughter very rarely. I've never once do. I recall pointing out a place kicker to her. I certainly would if you were the one. And she's getting ready for her final game in Miami so at the per purple lightning this weekend if you do hear about the final results About that team you might be able to hear that but I I think for sure for that would mean so much to so many people. What would it mean to you for you to actually go ahead and accomplish that? Should you be able to. I think that's you know what it's all about. I mean I I if I was a little girl watching football and if I saw you know a female kicking that would instantaneously instantaneously. Make me want to try to do that. Because I've always been a growing up. I was always a kid who had no fear of trying different things I had. No if you're jumping in with the boys and playing with them and trying to be better than them and You know I I just wasn't fearful of maybe not being good at something right away but then you know with practice becoming better at it so I think that it would just give you know all of these You know females and just people around the world at different different perspective and There's been you know women out there who have been so successful and who have broken down doors and barriers and been the first I to do something to help pave the way for so many other people so if I could help do that that's really ultimately what it's all about so We'll see what happens I'm definitely a definitely entertaining. It and and WanNa make sure that I could You know do it do it right and do it. Well hello well. One thing's for sure Carli Lloyd. You'd be paid equally as everybody else. I know you know I. It's it's crazy I was just talking to somebody about this The buzz and it just goes to show you how big the NFL is. Because I think I've gotten more press and more coverage potentially probably than my whole soccer career You know and and soccer's pretty big here. Women's soccer is pretty big. We've been successful but the NFL fell and male. Sports is is totally in a different Limelight and You know it's it's crazy and we just have to keep keep pushing on keeps making things better Because you know ultimately that's that's really what it's all about well. I hear a few minutes left with Carli Lloyd tonight on. NFL Grind on epic's picks Hanging out with the Eagles prior to their game with the Patriots Right here on the rich Eisen show a few more minutes left. I know you're.

"I myself so you ever taken. We'll see a woman kick in the n._f._l. N._f._l. Yes we will once. You made a fifty five yard or with no practice an no full understanding of the position the media and kickin n._f._l. Was thirty nine nine yards long media. Most people tried thirty nine yards and a team. That has a fifty plus yarder. You only have three of those a year. That's that's on average so casey fit into those numbers absolutely if she gets dry and jimmy will we ever see a woman in the n._f._l. Questioning whether or not we will the question is whether the not i won't do enough. There's no. I don't wanna see a woman in n._f._l. No more than i wanna see ronda rousey vs floyd mayweather in a cage match against brock lisbon no more than i want to see liza leslie trying to block out zion williamson sticking sandwich a good jimmy walking blair woman in a madden video game. I just have an unfair advantage. They look a woman. Storms ain't no match all jimmy in the hit steve man. I will hit stick a woman's. We've into another area of bandit. Are you wow now. Andrew Luck stuns NFL world with sudden retirement
"I think andrew luck came came to a place of peace says you're grading system is on a curve that i'm not subscribing anymore so it was andrew luck that has to answer the answer to andrew luck ultimately even though we all get the witnesses. Can i respond you better word that we're not putting out their obligation shen obligation quarterback ability. Have you ever been as a franchise quarterback. I haven't either believe it or not. I have never been a franchise quarterback quarterback. I always dreamed of being one but never had that opportunity or maybe it wasn't good enough to get that opportunity. The bottom line is that organization committed and invested in him and to do this to a team going into the season. I believe he has an obligation to try to handle the situation in the best way possible civil even if he knows he's gonna retire why create a controversy going into the season when you can easily defer that conversation until after after the season by just saying it's best for this organization. Maybe i might even change my mind because i even admitted in my previous in the press conference. I've only thought about this for about ten days. That's what he said. It was a quote right so give give yourself another couple of months to think about it. Go to europe for a month. Get away. Let that foot healed up a little but maybe maybe you'll come back in a month or month and a half and say i actually wanna play. I wanna try to take this team that i hear what you're saying. Steve i think obligation is a really tough off work. I do think there's a responsibility when you take on except all that money and everything they give you as a franchise quarterback but but obligation you've chosen that word intensely that gives you no wiggle room and you're saying that i think he tried to do the right thing. I didn't say he's got an obligation to stay in going into reserve. He's got an obligation to try to do. What's in the best interest of the organization. At that point i think in andrew luck mine did that in his mind what what he thinks is in the best interest organization may differ from you and jim and frank reich and jacoby perset but he did what he he felt was in his best interest and i think part of he thinks in the team and i always will bring this up byron left which was a franchise quarterback who went to the season ticket holder order luncheon who was demand and then they say august thirty. I get up outta here. David your turn sometime. Well guess what you could go the other way as well. This is not to jesuit. Yes what the boss can always fired period

"Zendejas us brothers the gramatica brother last time you went. Could they tackle anybody. Carli lloyd might be able to tackle somebody. How many tackles do you think she'll have. If she just kicks field goals and extra points she may have they average kicker probably has to blocked a year too so it'd be two situations where you had to engage and try to make attack yes mclovin. I mean bears kickers are different though because they kick wildly laughing and right of where the middle of the field they're so bad you can't even block them yeah so cody bargaining arguing eddie panero oh my god. What are you doing dude here. You can't have your your season could come down to a kick. If you're the bears right whole lot of see north yeah yeah and now the vikings they're not sold on their kicker. They trade for that. Guy can't hit the ocean all of a sudden. Why can't we find kickers because we have to go into the soccer. The pro soccer ranks really i don't know but it feels like all of a sudden it's hard but but people have such high expectations by the way when we were kids. Not everybody hit all these field goals. Now you gotta like justin tucker. Well some guys make it look easy. The fact that viteri is still oh kicking tells you about the world kicking. He's wildly accurate though i mean he nobody can beat him out. He doesn't have that strong of a leg anymore but he is accurate britt. I'd i don't i know justin tucker's different because he's a weapon. When i get over the fifty yard line i have a weapon and not many teams can say see them a safe zone safe range and then i'm gonna win the game orteig. Whatever we need just tucker's the outlier where you can go from sixty five and then you go he can make it but if carli lloyd has i think they all have the physical talent to do it but it always comes down to the mental aspect of being a kicker right. She's played on a high level on a big stage a world stage for the last what twenty years she's been the best player in the world twice and she's been out there. It's not just hey. I just come in for a p._k. Which would be a field goal or an extra point. She's they're playing soccer so she's an athlete and good for her. She wants to to do it. Gets that opportunity then great. I'd be curious to see how she would perform brian in california. Hey brian. What do you have for me today a._d._p. Repeal of the show <hes> yeah. We were talking about this at the steeler game last night. We lost our kicker trying to make a tackle. I think four years ago one of our best a field goal attempt kickers we lost him. Doing a tackle was that brian was on a kick but it was it was it was like wait a minute. Ah let the kicker kicks so he's supposed to do you know keep it nice and simple which may not going to be kicking off. She'll just be doing field goals and extra point sean sweden she probably could. I mean look at what happened last night with the panthers. I kicked a fifty nine or like nothing so i mean these soccer players are coming back in and i think thank <hes> it's an easy way to you know transition from soccer and football. It's great. Thanks for all right. Thank you bryan. Ryan in chicago joins us. Hey ryan all right dan <hes> six foot. One eighty just wanted to bring carl exhausted. This is a hot topic coming on today. <hes> i wanna see if it's more a skill or more p._r. For teams teams can easily so tickets with more like carly's kicking versus her town which clearly she can kicked a fifty yard field vehicle but it's a five step three step just want to get your thoughts on that but nobody's bringing her in to sell tickets if she can't kick then you lose your job bob i mean if she gets an opportunity and she has the talent the qualifications and crate. I'm all for it. I don't get caught up on. She can't make tackles like we wins the last time you said that about a place kicker that they're too small all they're going to get hit. They can't make a tackle. Why why are we being sexist and saying well can carli lloyd tackle somebody. I guess she's as physical as cody parkey. He doesn't run all you want him to do is just make damn field goal and that's all you want with that position. Just don't don't blow easy kicks here. I don't care about your tackling this. You know he's kind of spotty field goal kicker but damn can he tackle. I'd have urlacher k. Okay tax bringing bryant. He's the guy if we gets blocked. The guy who picks ups get crushed. If you're already thinking about kenny he tackles somebody. That's not a good sign with your placekicker wagner. It'd be a great kicker tackles everybody. I'm going to get your david clowney. I'm gonna bring him in not as a defensive lineman just to kick field goals and kick but yes mclovin. We had a guy in philadelphia in the late as named gary bolden the kicking mule who buddy ryan decided he had bring kickoffs and game a slot because he weighed three hundred pounds kicked out of the back of the endzone buddy ryan by the way remember he put out a bounty on the opposing kicker was edson day so in buddy ryan's they. Maybe didn't need a bigger guy but i don't remember. Was it martin gramatica who got hurt celebrating celebrating a meal. We're worried about carli lloyd. She's been celebrating for years. Successful kicks soccer players are good celebrators. That's a good point. I think it's a fun story but i think that maybe the fact that there's all this time and there's going to be more pressure on her to then go out and actually tried to do this. At least it feels that way that all of a sudden it's gonna be alright. Somebody's going to give you an opportunity here you you know i think she grew up in philadelphia or jersey south jersey so she may be the eagles. Bring her in and let her try out not not that they needed they. They're all about teams. Akers wife was a star so yeah <hes> it's a great point yeah paul. I heard people say why don't other soccer players do this mac men's soccer players. Well like men's soccer players would be taking gigantic. Pay cut like a ebrahim of each took decided to be kicker. He would make about ten percent of what he's making k. Landon donovan he was making about three million dollars. Carli lloyd makes made less than four hundred thousand dollars with everything last year but landon donovan right now. He considered it about four years ago. He talked a little bit about it. He considered giving it a run up but he could have. I'm sure if you trained for like a year you'd have a shot and but he's he's the same height and weight as carli lloyd but isn't carli lloyd at the end of her career like she's thirty seven if she could play women's soccer donovan yeah. I think it's the right time for if this is what she wants to do and she wants to try it so retired men's player i would think might be attracted to this too. They go to the m._l._s. when nat stein yeah. I mean vegetarian hundred. How old is vegetarian one hundred years exactly one hundred. It seemed like he's a little less than one hundred mclovin. Why couldn't you kick and by way. I don't buy into kickers getting old. I think he's just get bored. Like why can't you can't he's forty six. What do you mean get bored. Why i mean <unk> i'd say isn't it boring to start yeah. I know but like why why would a kicker aged out at thirty s. I can't see any reason. I'm gonna guess that your body doesn't react the way at once to he's forty s. You're going to be forty. Seven yeah is that amazing and remember more anderson and gary anderson. Those guys were well into their four george blanda yeah. I don't know if you how much you lose off your leg like quarterbacks than we talk about. You know they're losing arm. Armstrong like philip rivers drew brees. I don't know how much you lose. When you're kicking when you lose it wouldn't change your jersey number every year to your age and just trumpeted like put forty seven jersey this year. I think he's four just change every year. Is he ever introduced without his age attached to it right he he probably in the neighborhood you know when they have like a block party or so well. There's the forty seven year old down gonna terry. Hey mr forty.

"We don't have cloudy is going to be on the roster. That point almost certainly won't be playing so drew brees. After the first three months of last season he was neck and neck not ahead of patrick malone for league before he fell off. I think he's starts this year really well. You can finish it better than than last year. You mentioned david clowney. The texans are reportedly orderly trying to trade the three time pro bowl pass rusher. He's met with the dolphins but would prefer to land with either. The eagles or the seahawks so nicotine you wanna see clowney play for this year is blank asked me this few weeks ago and before there had been a supposed interest i mentioned the eagles i think the eagles have the right players to trade trade to the texans 'cause they're definitely offensive line. I also think philadelphia if they could add another pass rusher similar to what they had when they won the super bowl that rotation. I think it's a great fit. It would take howie roseman doing some real salary cap mechanics there because they're up against it but i say philadelphia. I think it would work for the texans work for the player player worked for the i think the the climate for today vian clowney around the league is is lukewarm. People don't believe he's a great talent body. It's i've been injured an awful lot but he has no special rush move. He's got no unstoppable me what he does anyone else in the league nothing so to me. I believe he's overrated as a player. I don't believe the eagles will make that type of investment. He's better off staying right there with the texas. They don't have a general manager. He needed to fool somebody in the pan him sign that tenure and get onto camp because i don't believe they're going to invest him in a long term contract because they're concerned about his body. All right moving on aaron rodgers was was highly complimentary of his new head coach matt l- afler roger said leflore has done some really smart things with the offense the packers looking to win their first division title since since twenty sixteen say the winner of the n._f._c. north this season will be blank da bears. I believe top to bottom. They're the best team. I'm i'm scared of there. Kicking situation given the way the season ended last year. I believe trubisky makes the leap their coach as an offensive mind you could see being tutored. Tutored under andy reid the creativity. I believe that's going to go to another level and their defense with khalil mack the whole all season and training camp the way he started started last year. Dubliners might be picking for the super bowl just a little preview. I really like the bears defense. I really like their coach. I think he's underrated and mitch trubisky. It's a big year for him but i think he's probably been slightly underrated by the general public for what he did last year but despite all that i'm gonna go with the green bay packers they've got. Maybe the best player in football. I think they finally spent smart money. He's better than patty mahomes detail to say that oh 'cause i said maybe i said maybe. This is a show be well. Maybe we'll be able to say something. They've got the best player in the n._f._c. in aaron rodgers and so i said something there and so i'm going to go with g. He said he hadn't won the division since two thousand sixteen sixteen. You can't be the most talented quarterback maybe n._f._l. History other than batting homes of course and go three years in your prime without win. Your division green bay packers akers was my pick moving onto von miller hall of famer bruce smith was singing. His praises saint miller's quote a very special talent. "Just a little bit time for us to go environmental carli lloyd reportedly received an offer to kick in an n._f._l. Preseason game after this video of her nailing a fifty five yard field goal made the rounds on social media and football isn't her only hidden talent thrown out the first pitch at the phillies game last night. I delivering <hes> what looks old firmly rubber football strike zone stack baseball descended soccer. She plays with the u._s. Women's national team. They're taking on portugal at seven eastern tomorrow. On f s one i think one of the teams actually that they're not releasing the name of it called and wanted her to come in tomorrow night so quick absolutely fourth preseason game she can't because of this was a legit excuse but no. She says she might consider training for it and trying out legitimately in two thousand twenty man or woman very hard to make an n._f._l. Team aged thirty eight which is what she would be but man and that was for a kicker and that fifty five yard field that was through the skinny uprights like the the the uprights that they narrow for it was raining kenny upright. She does have the league but can she do it under the pressure in the elements and she's got a short and upper approach field goal kickers can only take three steps because the take more than that. They're going to block it in this. She took five steps so five steps help you kick it longer. She has to be a little quicker because you get it up with that same distance but definitely definitely should get an opportunity and that'd be great. That'd be unbelievable time for stories start parade but you can't be five steps. You do your thing whether man the cowboys continue to move forward without ezekiel elliott who remains in combo awaiting new deal reportedly been working out with hall of famer marshall faulk hawks said quote zeke's fitnesses great. The only thing we can't simulate is the contact. Seattle art is to stay in football. Football shape not just shape shape. It's it's impossible. I mean you can run on treadmills. You can get trainers and everything but the thing that you can't do you can't assimilate the two a day practices and the body contact running with people avoiding people with people on your body. You can't simulate that yeah. You can push a sled. You can put gordon harness but human interaction. No you can't simulate that marshall but they're doing the right thing. Marshall faulk is a good guy for him to be around to get him ready but he node owed. You need a couple of games before you start getting used to getting your body built up for that content. This is a position in zeke's at an age that i do think that he's going to win. He does return to the cowboys. I don't think falen conditioning tests. I don't think that his he's going to be slower but to chris's point marshall fox point he's going to have been training by himself has opposed to as opposed to having people pull him to the ground so that will of course take a bit of an unjust we can't take for granted practices import and that's why we have more injuries the less contact with this new era of flares. You start seeing more and more injuries. Their bodies are not ready to stay.

"It's how you want to set up your organization and and look owners will say that that they're they're ready adam buying coach do whatever you want and and it's kind of there's turbulence when you go to a place especially if there's a coach and you hear it all the time players colder coach or or or a disciplinarian whatever it is when you transition. There's there's a a difficult period that you go through until people understand the way things work and that turbulence is not for everybody sometimes when that happens people grab parachutes and they jump out of the plane. You've gotta have time. You've you've gotta be able to to bring in the right type of people you gotta be committed to a certain type of character of the people that are gonna make up your room and end and then you've got to treat people the same but it's it's also got to be a very disciplined approach and it's hard. It's especially hard in today's n._f._l. Fell but that's the other built in advantage the patriots have built in for themselves which is while other teams particularly teams in their division have been chasing them and because they've been chasing him they brought in multiple different coaches. They've brought in multiple different quarterbacks. They brought in multiple different systems. The patriots have twenty plus years years of the same now coordinators change but sometimes they come back like josh mcdaniels us. Sometimes dante's jackie goes to rhode island but then he you can bring him back. You don't have the hardest part for any coach. I would imagine is the first couple of years but in today's n._f._l. A lot of coaches that's all you get. If you're steve wilkes you only get one actually and so there is an element of the patriots don't have to reset while everyone else is and i coach and i've talked doctor this off the air a bunch of times. I wonder if you just had the league average whatever that is coaching staff but you told them we're going to give you eight years without a doubt right in stone what that would look like at the end of that time just because of continuity the patriots have guy chris says and i agree with him is the greatest teacher of football ever with twenty years of continuity and oh yeah by the way the greatest quarterback of all time to go along with it. That's how you super bowl. Every other year. County also take a step back here. Give robert kraft a ton of credit robert kraft went and hired bill belichick gave up a first round draft form when the guy had one winning earning season in five years in cleveland he he spent a year in new england. Mr kraft's got to know him and he was willing to take that chance and then give him some time and deal with the turbulence when everybody in new england because i was there every day thought it was one of the worst decisions seasons in football history. The second longest tenured coach now. Maybe in pittsburgh mike tomlin. They've been successful for a long time so you're right. Take care all right cultural later in the show coming up. Hey as cam newton the best quarterback in the n._f._c..

"Add a little kerfluffle if you will but i think it will we'll see instrument genus journey with that should be fun. The cowboys are now going on that ain't true that ain't true like sand through the hourglass. Zeki elliott is still dylan kabo still waiting to get a deal done still working out reportedly with marshall faulk with the n._f._l. Season kicking off in just over a week many wondering if zeke would be ready need to go if he signed just before the start of the season as expected the situation a big topic in the cowboys locker room. Here's head coach jason. Garrett zeke's been a really good player for us. We love him as a guy. We love him as a player. We wanna get him back in here right now. We're going with the guys. We have when zeke it's back here. We'll get integrated a great as quickly as we can. He'll be a big part of our team. Listen we're preparing for the season and <hes> you know we're going to play with what we got and and what we got is a damn good back tony pilots so you know obviously you'd want him out here but we're prepared to get ready for week one so does that mean that sort of internally. The cowboys always are mentally preparing themselves. It certainly sounds like they've got the pieces in place to start moving forward without zeke for week one yeah well it also means that they've actually talked in the meeting rooms about about how they're going to approach the situation with the media and they've said look whenever we talk about zeke we're going to say we're moving on with the guys that we have and we hope it gets resolved and he's a great guy and we love them. I mean there's nothing else. The players can say or or jason can say to to keep the distractions to to a minimum <hes> in in terms of impact look it. It's gonna be some more challenging without him. He he is. He is unique. He changes the dynamic things and now it's going to be up to dak to prove that he's worth what he's hoping to get paid and when you look at his production over the three years he's consistently been there. He's made good decisions. He hasn't lost games which which we talk about a lot more games the n._f._l. Lost one. It's just he's not winning a lot of games. He's not changing and a lot of the people around him think he's had twenty three touchdowns as the most towns. He's throwing three years to put that in perspective. Tom brady hasn't thrown only twenty three types on since two thousand and three so it's just it's just a little bit different equation all that being said he has great traits. He has great intangibles. It seems like these guys believe in him and that gives you the potential for growth. Do i think this team will be competitive. Yes still absolutely be competitive in every game aim because of the way that they're structured the things that they do dev defensively and his approach to. I think they'll be dynamic. No not not not initially and it's gonna take some time for for the new offense coordinator to get his feet underneath them as well and the reason that in a question about ezekiel elliott you spent most what's the time talking about dak prescott rightfully so is because these two guys are inextricably tied together not just because the same draft class they've been there but because it is because of dax at the moment very apparent deficiencies that zeke has whatever liberty has an has the import on this team that he does the i think the cowboys general philosophy that echoes the rest of the league which is running back becoming fungible position and you don't wanna pay running back a ton of money in general i think is correct and if dak were the guy that a select few think he is which is a force multiplier which is better than in carson wentz a franchise quarterback already then. I'd let zeke chilin kabul. I'd let that contract offer stay exactly where it is and try to call his bluff. See how much timer you really gonna miss..

Soccer star Carli Lloyd received offers to kick in NFL preseason games
"It's been confirmed by Carli Lloyd of the U. S. women's national team that she is quote seriously considering on offer from the NFL now it's gotten old it's gotten a little fuzzy what can offer a we talking about is it an offer to simply come in and kick on Thursday night in the final preseason game for a team that's possible that's how I originally read at this time they were a little bit more Corey in terms of what the offer actually is and what Carly is thanking and the reason for this if you missed it about a week maybe a little bit more ago a viral video surfaced of Carly at eagles camp kicking a fifty five yard field goal and by the way kicking it threw up rights that are squeezed together even fitter than actual goal posts in the NFL fifty five yards no joke now granted no rush no snap no timing look like maybe her her run up to the ball was a little bit longer than what an actual kicker would do but you know fifty five yards that is not a joke and this thing did not just barely clear the cross bar it was with ease and it was perfectly centered and Carly's time with the U. S. women's national team probably doesn't have a whole lot of laughs because she's in her mid thirties courses a kicker what the hell you could just get started at that time now is this ever going to turn into Kali kicking in real NFL games I find that to be a little bit far fetched but who the heck knows and quite frankly who the heck cares this is fantastic it's fantastic it should happen don't get caught in the debate and the minutia of whether or not it would work it doesn't matter that's not the point the point is out all times and everyone in all leagues can do it better all times they should be thinking in twenty nineteen about entertaining the masses that's the thing you know we look at baseball games and we go and we need to restart the game no you don't need to shorten the game you need the game to be more entertaining there need to be more things going on that that that that keep the attention of the audience and even the NFL which is incredibly entertaining there's urgency already built in only sixteen games I'm number one television show across the board throughout every football season by far our basketball very entertaining but are there ways other ways that they could make it even more entertaining while the big the big sore thumb for the NFL is the pre season it is incredibly difficult to find reasons to watch a preseason game out one I've watched so far one one time did I actually sit down on the couch with a pillow behind my head make food and say let's get it on I'm watching this happened one time and in fact is the only time I can remember it happening in the last I don't know how many years and it was last Saturday because Jimmy Garamba fear was was running through the streets of San Francisco and seemingly beyond and so we had to see it he was gonna play all high off he gets some continuity he could make a mistake or two and have time to to button it up he did all of those things and I was there for and then half time came and I wasn't there for it anymore and do you know how much I will watch of Thursday night narodna nothing I promise absolutely nothing I will I watch all that game on Thursday night because the relevant it's relevent the stars won't be there it's just not watchable however if Carli Lloyd were kicking for one of those teams I watched the whole thing I'll I would watch the whole thing and I would be rooting every time offer every drive just all of the twenty five yard line so why not who gets hurt how many teams already know who their kicker is gosh I hope the forty Niners of the team making the offer Robbie gold your quarterback don't put him out there on Thursday why who knows somebody could roll into his leg get Carli Lloyd M. and letter kick and who knows what would happen next but when you want to see it are so this is taking the next step there is serious consideration going on and and who knows where this is going to go on Thursday or quite frankly beyond it would be

US women's soccer team is dominant: How long can it last?
"Lovell the U. S. women's soccer team continues its World Cup celebration but how long can the Americans dominates here's this weekend's Jennifer because shankha the US women's soccer team remains the world's best about the world is catching up how much longer can the U. S. team keep going here to answer that question Joshua Robinson of the Wall Street journal Joshua who are the veterans on this team entering that you cannot miss a discernment was making Latino but she's already thirty four years old you also looking at someone like Carli Lloyd I know she only came off the bench in most games but she's thirty six million icon of fifteen and that the black people like Becky Celeborn also thirty four even Alex Morgan who with the baby faced assassin of this team for so long just played at her third World Cup and she's already thirty so for a lot of the women on this team retirement is beginning to appear on the horizon and you begin to wonder is there another World Cup in them and you know even a year where the Tokyo Olympics and some of the more wonder if they can last that long have there been any hints from any of them about what they might plan to do I think probably Lloyd above all would be the one who's beginning to really think about it at thirty six and not necessarily a key member of the chip coach Joe Loews's plans it it's it could be pretty tempting to to hang it up hang up for groups when she's at absolutely the pinnacle of the game the ticket the other temping thing however is that because of the way the women's international soccer cycle works we're in a period where the World Cup is just a year away from the next Olympics after the Olympics the next World Cup will be three years away so hang on for just twelve more months extremely appealing if you think I could get in this time for Tokyo we're speaking with Josh Robinson of the Wall Street journal talk about the future of Jill Ellis where does he stand on her contract and is she in good standing as the U. S. coach she criticized a lot of this tournament for some of the tactical choices and some of the decision she's made in the way she's managed individual game but you really cannot argue with the results she's a worse she's the only coach in women's soccer history to win two world cups even no one is done that on the men's side even since the nineteen thirties she's also and she deserves a lot of credit for this manage to effectively Rangel beat the egos and personalities on that team and we go there a lot of personalities in that in that locker room but she said she's not here police that and she's let them speak freely and continue to deliver results so her contract is up this summer and there's an option that could be triggered by U. S. soccer or her for another year and that would take her to the Olympics she's been very corny about her future so far has and says she has made a decision it's gonna be interesting to see whether she decides again to go out on a high or roll the dice again in Tokyo and see if she can hold off the advance of the rest of the world one more time Josh was there anything that goes on between now and the Olympics next summer well the first order of business is the US woman returned home is this a three toward they're gonna play I think about half a dozen games between August and October all over the country where they invite some of the best teams in the world to the United States and really they even the adulation of of American fans that'll be the first thing and then they'll resume their normal calendar and start to get ready for the Olympics this weekend's Jennifer because Shinko with Wall Street journal reporter Joshua

"If you do find your right situation, you can become a member of the senior national team. And maybe even play in a World Cup as we look forward though. I wonder what do you think the role n w sell? We'll have in the player pool of the US women's senior national team as we progress in the league gross won't because US soccer subsidizes all the US women's national team player pool, Sal. In US soccer needs to utilize this league as a development league and it needs to become kind of like a feeder system to create a separate group of almost like a USA be team that helps feed the USA team, just kind of went through that because there are a number of players in that pool since two thousand sixteen that were selected because they could score goals after the Olympics, when they left in the finals earliest exit ever for US team in a major competition, the chance creations. If you looked at US created twenty three chances in two thousand sixteen but they were from bad angles, and so they, they really went out and looked for players that could create chances on their own and convert chances from bed angles, but also improve the angle. So the chance conversion rate was higher a higher probability of, of conversion just as one of those players and big moments in the air and Carli Lloyd was missing in the air Lindsay Horon was missing in the air in two thousand sixteen and one at another weapon they brought him Lynn Williams. For example. That's another player but unfortunately, about another WFL like kind of reticent and she plays with us. Their, their strike partners. And they're very good. Friends Lynn GIS is the fastest player in the NWF sell believe, but she needs thirty chances to convert to write her technique is lacking just needs to chances, in the air and she'll convert one so just gets the nod because also no one else on the team, the frontline can do what she can do in the air as well as defending set pieces. So that's critical but overall the NWEA sell it needs to become the breeding ground, and that will improve with better coaching better standards both on and off the field to player. Stay in it longer it, it's way to expand our competitive base of potentially US women's national team players. You mention her propensity for scoring big goals in big games. Jessica McDonald, though, she is the reigning N wwl championship game, then VP. She scored a couple of goals as her North Carolina, courage got revenge over the Portland thorns. It was the same two teams in the I called like, yeah let's game up. I was a big moment because they've been. Waiting for that game for all year. They've been waiting for that. That's a have or have not situation Portland has all the US women's national team players because a lot of people wanna play in Portland and Paul rally has built a team of underdogs and look at how many are on the national team or having an impact here at this World Cup -solutely, all right? "We mentioned that Julie Foudy has been very busy in France. You did speak with Carli Lloyd. She also spoke with Meghan repeal. Let's listen to that interview now Megan seven changes to the lineup. How do those changes actually impact you going into this game pas? Actively I think obviously more people got a minutes in their legs, more goals, spread around getting everyone on the same page with a good feeling. And then for those of us who played the other night, get a little bit arrest in kind of turns the tournament into hopefully a five game bounce for us and not a seven the last time you all played Sweden in a major tournament was the Olympics in two thousand sixteen of course, that quarterfinal loss. How fresh is that in your mind? And how much do you all talk about it? Not that fresh to be honest. I mean it's been a long time. A feel like our squads very different their squads very different a whole new tournament. Obviously, we know they beat us and had a good game plan and feel like that was an area of weakness for us when team sit back on us like that. So we've worked a lot on that since then and focused on that. And hopefully better beside Thailand, intially or not Sweden. This is going to be a different game. What will fans who are watching the game see from this US team that they didn't perhaps e in the first two games. I mean it's going to be way, tougher obviously just from physical standpoint, you know, they're a much stronger team much more organized, you know, defensively and tactically, just a lot smarter than I think the, the other two teams. So it's gonna be a battle, we're going to have to be really patient, and you're probably not going to see five goals, or three goals, or maybe even two goals in the first half. We're going to have to break them down and kind of play the game within. The game in order to open it up for us with the mindset going into this game knowing a win or a draw in Sweden, possibly set you up and that quarterfinal against France. I mean wins for us we want obviously to have a good performance but in the World Cup. It's all about winning each game winning sort of each little battle and moving onto the next. I think you start thinking about trying to set up who you're going to play. That's a little bit of a slippery slope. So if that, if that happens, and we advanced and fortunate enough to play France and a quarterfinal, then we'll welcome that. Thanks, darling. Kate bears, Meghan repeal. No. With our Julie Foudy repeated certainly, one of the more popular players on this team in recent years, I found it interesting. They're talking about the Olympic defeat against Sweden. Like, yeah. So like, and I think keeping a player like Alex Morgan confident and playing is also important so watching not just it's not just how you get Carli Lloyd on the field for Jill Ellis, its who you're taking off. There's so many moving pieces to all this stuff that I think she's got some big decisions, and I would say Kate, like unclear or difficult decisions still remaining, and how she manages that will determine whether or not her World Cup cam- campaign is successful. I mean that's in this man management has been superb up to this point. And yeah, you got players that are unhappy because they're not playing. "Quintessential moment of two thousand eleven eleven is the cross from Meghan repeal Abby. Wambach right. Carli. Lloyd plays it out to Meghan repeal. That's a stretch on that stretch. I don't come back to a good one two thousand eight the Olympic final. It's a one nothing victory over Brazil Marta. If not at her peak pretty close to her peak. She gets the game winner in the ninety six minute a shot from just outside the box left-footed surprise surprise some of the biggest goals in Carli Lloyd's, career have come from distance. Always something that she could do. Well, I wonder you were on that field in two thousand eight what do you remember about Carly's big game performance that night? The thing that makes Carl unique is her ability to concentrate in these key moments or other players might be taking a break that shot that she scored an away. It kinda came from something that was just playing and we're able to win the ball back. She's takes got broken play. Right. And then she couldn't converts on it and her, I thought is always to go, so the combination between her concentration, and then her decision making in these pivotal late game moments is the reason why for training has been, so beneficial to, to put her in the situation, you know, she always talked about how she's so fit and. Wrong, and stronger, everybody else better than everybody else. But of course, she thinks that and she should because it shows, right? Because she's the one that's executing in the eighty eighth minute when you see, for example, today when the Renard not executing in the seventy th minute, right. So hasn't trained herself to the fatigue, that then you still know how to capitalize when you're dead tired. So being Carly right. Big game. Moments use the one who shows up it's all because their ability to concentrate in those moments and she's been starting games you can go all the way back to the two thousand seven World Cup. She wasn't starting every match that tournament by thinks started either two or three of the five matches that the US played my one other question on Carly at this point Kate would be, how many minutes, does she need you sit on yesterday's show and you've been pretty adamant about this. You don't think that there's much wiggle room in jail Alice's mind as far as Carli Lloyd becoming a starter to she need, then thirty minutes? Can she make her impact in fifteen in ten like what is Karl Lloyd need at this point in her career in terms of playing time off the bench? It just depends on who she is. Going in force performance level at this point, she is going in as, as a nine right? She's going in for Alex Morgan. So it depends on where Alex Alex Morgan off after sixty minutes, probably. Right. Well, it just depends. Right. And then just McDonald equipped herself very well. Not that you're going to go to just because just has not does not have the experience, nor is improving that she can be big game but she did have a header clean off the crossbar yesterday. And then when they put Carly down in the eight after they put Jess McDonald. And as a center striker they input Carly down. She was slow. I don't know if you noticed her her touch is, she can't catch up to her touches quickly. She could. Right. So she's best in, when she can just exert. Those powerful two or three yard bursts running onto things, which makes her only really nine. So are you willing to the only way, I think that works? If you go if you want, Alex and Carla Hills anytime you've got to go to a four four two and have her kind of play how Abby played when Abby and Alex refers paired together and abbey's always intended recipient on that. I ball and Alex Morgan is always peeling off to the left. Pick up the second very interesting. I think of Carli Lloyd is play who doesn't need a ton of time. That's my initial thought. When I asked that question, it's like, yes, of course she's going to want thirty minutes. But when you look at just how like brutally efficient she tries to play, it may be one of those who are like, sorry, Carl you've proven that you don't need much time to act. "I think the groups that were tighter got exposed earlier, the teams and that'll benefit them more, I'm a little bit nervous, the United States out of all the groups that group is the weakest group in terms of the haves and the have nots and it's translates into their performances Sweden, and US a has a rich tradition. Lots of resources Thailand. Chilly, not so much. So that is the one takeaway, that I have for everything. It's like, okay, the United States and Sweden there tournament is just beginning starting on Thursday. So today, we saw groups a and b wrap up France Wynn's group, a Germany wins group B, we'll get to all that a little bit later but we're still just a few hours, remove really from the United States three nothing win over Chile on Sunday. Carli Lloyd, one of the big story lines there. She got the start. She got a couple of goals both coming in the first half. She did miss a penalty at the end. But when you have a good day like that. Get a couple of goals in a World Cup game. The only way you can possibly finish it off is to speak with our Julie Foudy. So here's Julie and Carly from I believe the team hotel after Sunday's victory over cheated. Thank carly. So it was really good. What message do you think you sent to the coaching staff tonight? I don't know. I've been trying to send a lot of messages every game. But, you know I it's just nothing changed. You know, I'm just trying to be better than I was in my previous performance trying to be better every single day. And this really is the best version of me that there ever has been and, you know, I know that my Bility's there, I know I can contribute, whether that's starting playing ninety whether that's coming off the bench. I'm going to be ready. So we'll see what happens. But I will be ready for anything. Tell us about that goal celebration after your first goal, please. We'll actually Lynn. Z her an who sits next to me in the locker room. She actually mentioned to me. Hey, if we score a goal, we're going to do a just a really quiet, golf clap, and I'm like, okay, cool. So she said, you know, obviously celebrate, you know the way you want. But that's what we think will be funny. So, you know, I, I did my, my celebration and then went over to the bench, and they all just kinda did the did the little clap, which was fun. But, you know, those, those team celebrations are fun. And that's what they're all about seven changes in the lineup tonight still dominating performance by the team. How good is this team feeling about itself right now? I think really good. You know, I think you know, over the course of two games. We had twenty players step out on the field, and that's truly remarkable, and we knew going into this is gonna take twenty three players it's still going to take twenty three players to win this. But now, we had a real this leaves up because we got a mountain to climb and Sweden's not going to be easy. It's gonna be a tough match. We've obviously, you know, made it into the knockout rounds. But we gotta take care of Sweden. I and. Yeah one game at a time. Congratulations. Art kit. So here from Carly there. She does mention the record or Julie. Did he's now scored in six straight World Cup games? Dating back to the two thousand and fifteen World Cup. That indeed is a World Cup record..

Carli Lloyd aims 'golf clap' celebration at U.S.'s critics

But also, you can see her setting the tone, she's in her mid thirties as well. And so it's a big deal for her. To, to set that example for some of the younger players were in their first World Cup other neat aspect about Carly is, is that she is. She's a great role model. She I know she did the little golf clap. After I remember what goal was if it was her first one or the third one, that, that the US verse two, but after having an exuberant celebration she kind of pulls out the golf clap, as a nod to critics who said that the, the US women were celebrating, too much, and really don't it down. But she did though become the first one, she was the very first player to go to that tie, goalie who is so dejected and so upset and so embarrassed after their first their first match.
