"Coming up, an unexpected two-part podcast cameo from me. It's next. We're also brought to you by the Ringer Podcast Network, where we turned over Sean Fennesey and Amanda Dobbins' big picture feed to Brian Raftery. It's a narrative podcast called, Do We Get to Win This Time? How Hollywood Made the Vietnam War. You can find it on the big picture starting on Tuesday. And it is an idea I'm really excited about because it came from a class that I did as a senior in college in 1992. Me and my friend Horgs talked a movies professor into doing a special Vietnam War movies class where we watched basically every Vietnam War movie that had been made up to 1992 and then tried to write a big picture term paper about it. And the thing that was really fascinating about that class and something that stuck with me was just that whole concept of Hollywood reinventing the entire Vietnam experience under the premise of, Did We Get to Win This Time? So we got Brian involved and he turned the idea into an awesome, awesome podcast. I even went and dug up the term paper that I wrote 31 years ago. I thought it was gonna be horrendous. It wasn't bad. I was kind of proud of myself, retroactively 31 years later. Anyway, Do We Get to Win This Time? How Hollywood Made the Vietnam War. It is gonna be in the big picture podcast starting on Tuesday. So that's one piece of business. Second, new rewatchables on Monday night. It is the 300th movie that we've done. It's a special one. We're doing National Lampoon's Vacation. It was time. Meet Chris Ryan, Van Lathan. Yeah, and Van was pushing for it because we wanted to do Christmas Vacation during the holidays and you can't do Christmas Vacation. If we do National Lampoon's Vacation, super fun. Can't wait for you to listen to it. And we'll be running the video at some point on the YouTube channel, youtube.com slash Bill Simmons, where we put up a whole bunch of rewatchables podcasts in case you missed it. Boogie Nights is up there now. Goodfellas, Independence Day, just a slew of them. So if you're bored and you wanna throw on some rewatchables and watch us make fun of each other, there you go. Last but not least, I don't wanna say this is the most important, but it's certainly the thing I spent the most time on. Our documentary that we did about the G League with Religion of Sports and Ringer Films, we combined, and it is premiering on Tuesday, August 8th. It is called Destination NBA, A G League Odyssey. It's really good. We immersed ourselves into the G League season. We followed Scoot Henderson, Gabe York, Ryan Terrell, Mason Jones, and Denzel Valentine. And the big question was, what is this world like? What's it like to be in the G League? And I am really proud of where we landed with it. And we even have, much later in this podcast, Gabe York is gonna come on. He's one of the five that we followed, and he's gonna tell us what it's like as you're holding on to your dream in your late 20s. We try not to spoil the doc too much with Gabe, but I really liked him. He's probably the guy that jumps out of the doc in the most sympathetic way. So look forward for you to watch it. It is prime video, Tuesday, August 8th, Destination NBA. A G League Odyssey. You love basketball, just watch it, it's good. So there you go. This is gonna be part one of a two-part podcast. Gabe is coming up later. My daughter Zoe Simmons is coming up later because we did a whole bunch of OC stuff on the Prestige TV podcast. I was even on two of the episodes. But I ended up watching season one of the OC. And my daughter was watching with us and loved the show. And she was born a year and a half after it premiered. So me and her broke down season one from the perspective of what is it like when somebody 18 watches the OC, a show that is now two decades old. The anniversary was actually August 6th. And what she liked, what she didn't like, what people aren't doing anymore for her kind of audience. And we just dove into it. So that is much later. First, coming out of the gate, I'm gonna open a six-pack because we have a lot to discuss over the past three weeks, all the stuff I missed. So that's gonna be part one. And then part two, which is gonna go up later on Sunday night, me and Rossello doing this evergreen idea that we've always wanted to do. And this seemed like the perfect time because nothing's happening in basketball. So that's gonna be part two later tonight. Part one coming up. First, our friends from ProJax. What's up? All right, I'm taping this. It is Sunday afternoon Pacific time. And I'm gonna open a six-pack. There's a bunch of stories in sports and culture that happened over the last three weeks. I was just writing stuff down, things that would have been fun for podcast segments. I was just like, man, I wish I could have given my thoughts on that. Just gonna rip through them. So I have six and then maybe a couple bonus ones at the end. The first one, the biggest one, was the US women's soccer team, which lost today in penalty kicks to Sweden, scored zero goals in the last two games, scored one goal in the last three games, and that was off a corner kick. You could feel from the beginning that something was off with this team. It was all the ways. You knew in a checklist of what are the red flags? There were just red flags galore. And the only person who was really calling it out in time over and over again was Carli Lloyd, who was doing the Fox studio show. And she was the one person in the horror movie who knows the house is haunted. And everyone's like, shut up. You're not being patriotic. You just wish you were still on the team. She was right. She was right from the get-go. This team, you could see it before the Vietnam game when it was like, look at the new Nike suits. Look at these new suits. And they're all like styling as they head into the locker room. And they're running commercials. And every player has a commercial. There's players who've never done anything of that commercials. And the vibe was just off. They only beat Vietnam three-nothing in a bracket where goal differential was gonna be super-duper important. And that was a huge red flag. And we did the usual thing that we've been doing since 2019, 2015 of, oh, well, they almost scored a bunch of times. Oh, well, if that had gone in or some bad luck. There was just an arrogance to this team. Like they were carrying themselves like the defending champs, the same way like the Denver Nuggets would go into next NBA season. Like we're the champs. I was like, yeah, you are the champs because the season just happened. The World Cup happened four years ago. Everyone's four years older or wasn't on the team. And you could see they wanted to build the team instead of around the identity of, here are these new up and coming awesome stars that are gonna be in your life. They were really latching on to Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe. Alex Morgan's 34, Megan Rapinoe's 37. I think one of the differences between the discourse with women's sports and men's sports is that in men's sports, we grasp for angles. And if somebody is disappointing in some way, we really go nuts. Like think of how James Harden's been treated over the last 12 years. So he's one of the 35 best players ever and has taken just an incredible amount of shit. Oh my God, the playoffs, look at his game log. Oh, he choked again. Alex Morgan, who scored twice in her first two games in the World Cup in 2011, she scored once in 2015 in seven games. She scored six times in 2019, five against Thailand in a game that was 13 to nothing, one in the other six, and then scored nothing in the four games this time around. If you take away that Thailand game, she has scored two goals in the last 17 World Cup games. This is the striker. This is the one who's supposed to be the most dangerous player in the field, who's supposed to produce goals. And she hasn't produced goals since the mid 2010s on the national level. And yet it's Alex Morgan. She was supposed to be the next one. We got to keep propping her up and pretending she's a superstar. She's not a superstar. She's really honestly never been a superstar. She certainly hasn't been as impactful as somebody like Abby Wambach was. So you have the team built around her. She's got to play. They play her the entire game, game two, the entire game, game three. She plays like 95 minutes in this game today, and they don't score goals. And the announcers just won't talk about it. It's like being on an AYSO team that your kid's on, and the coach is playing somebody at striker, and everyone's like, why don't they play Sally at striker instead of the coach's daughter? It's like, oh, you know, the coach's daughter. She's got to play there. So you have that, and then you have Rapinoe, who's 37 years old, who's just, unfortunately, great career, legendary, true legend, huge big time player. And when you hit your late 30s in soccer, it's a wrap. She looked like Yudana Rapinoe, not big Rapinoe, and comes out for the last 25 minutes of this game and can't do anything, and then misses the penalty kick. That's the thing. If you're beholden to past performance, you can't expect to succeed in the moment. And I did feel like, what were this team's strengths? Speed. They had Sophia Smith, who really was bad the last three games on the left wing. Like, she just, she couldn't even connect passes. Trinity Rodman, who's a beast. Lynn Williams, who's super fast and athletic and had some really nice moments the last two games. And then Alyssa Thompson, who's the prodigy, who's the, you know, potential tiger or LeBron of this team. 18 years old, best high school player I've ever had. They won't even throw her out there. But this was not a team that could connect passes. They weren't, like, especially creative. The coaching was just bizarre, and we'll never see that guy again. But it was like, the one thing they did have was speed, especially the forwards, and they just threw that away. And Alex, you know, couldn't do anything. So now they're out. It's the most disappointing finish of the last 25 years for the women's team. And it reminds me in a lot of ways that 2004 Olympic basketball team that we had, the USA team. And I tweeted this, I think after the second game, because that was a team that was between eras, like this one was, where all the best players on that 2014, the ones in their primes, weren't that good, except for Duncan. And Duncan was completely banged up. He'd played so many NBA games the last couple of years. I think his knee was hurt. But, you know, it was Iverson and Marbury. The talent, it just was a between eras. And you had guys on the bench, like LeBron and Carmelo and Wade, who were four years away. Kobe wasn't on the team. And it just felt generationally, like we caught that team in the wrong time. The style was wrong. And we learned all these lessons and we moved on. 2008, we win. There's a documentary about it. But this team felt like it was between eras. The Alex Morgan, Rapinoe era, which was basically done. And then you have this era coming up with Rodman and Sophia Smith and Alyssa. And, you know, it's just four years from now, we'll probably be fine. But they need to re-imagine this. And I think if you're gonna learn any lesson from this, it doesn't matter what happened four years ago. It's the World Cup. It matters what's happening now. So that's one thing. Second thing. So Jaylen Brown gets this huge contract, $304 million. Some people seem surprised that it was that much money. Chris Ryan even took a shot at it when we did our library watchables. Hurt my feelings a tiny bit. Mainly because I didn't really have a comeback. Rosella did something on his podcast about how this actually makes sense. This amount of money, when you think of how the salary cap has climbed just since 2015, and it's gonna keep climbing. And there's this world you can go into where you think about just how much everything is gonna cost in the NBA four or five years from now, that Jaylen Brown at $70 million isn't actually gonna be that intimidating. The same way we feel about Tobias Harris for $40 million now, or Klay Thompson, $40 million now. Yeah, you don't really wanna pay $40 million for Klay Thompson, but you can survive it. And I think that's gonna be where the Celtics land with Jaylen. Here's why they had to do it. They're the favorites on FanDuel right now. They're plus 470. The thing that made them the most special and has made them the most special for the last five, six years is the Jaylen Brown-Jason Tatum combo. They've been incredibly successful. The team itself has made five conference finals in the last seven years. They came super close to making the finals last year. I have now gone into the what if zone with that Celtics team where what if Tatum doesn't hurt his ankle on the first play? Do we beat Miami? They were close is the point. And when you're that close, you can't fuck around. This is not Bradley Beal resigning with Washington for 50 million a year when everybody knows you can't get past the eight seed with Bradley Beal. This is different. You're trying to win a title. You're trying to keep all your optionality open. The thing that's a little scary about it, nobody seems to totally know if he wants to be in Boston. This is something we've discussed on this pod. It's been floating out there. The fact that he wasn't happy about landing in the Kevin Durant trade rumors a couple years ago. And just in general, where the league is now, where as Woj called it, the transfer portal, where people get their contract first and then they decide what they want to do. And I think for the Celtics, they know they bought themselves a year with Jalen and they are still one of the favorites to win the title. And a lot of it's going to depend on health and Porzingis. You could also, I don't want to make the case, but you might be able to make the case that Brown had a fucked up hand last year. Cause he did. Cause he sliced his hand open. It was bleeding even during the Philly series. And maybe that was why his ball handling went sideways. Listen, you got to do the contract. It just breaks your brain. I remember a million years ago, Sports Illustrated and Inside Sports say every year they would have like a salary issue. And they would talk about these guys are making $1 million a year. And it seemed like so much money. And now where we're heading with the money, plus the NBA is the meteorites deal. The moment any of these guys becomes unhappy, what do you do? Because you're paying Jalen, let's say you're paying him 55 million a year. Plus he is the trade kicker, which the team has to pay. Right? So if he decides after a year, you know what? I'm tired of being the scapegoat. Everybody loves Jason. I'm like the middle brother of this team. I want my own team. I want to go to Houston or Atlanta. You got to trade me. What are the Celtics going to do? On top of who would want out, you don't have a lot of options and you turn into what the situation Portland's in with Deem. And then on top of it, it's so much money. It's impossible to get any sort of a fair trade for the guy. So they had to do it. And the optionality that comes out of it is frightening. I remember in the early 2000s, when the first time the contracts kind of went nuts and you would see that people get signing like six-year, $100 million deals, seven-year, $110 million deals. And the Celtics really, really stupidly traded for Vin Baker. One of the worst trades of the last 30 years for Boston Sports. A trade so bad, you knew it instantaneously. And I wrote a piece that you can probably find somewhere in the ESPN archives about it, where I compared it to the end of Thelma Louise when Harvey Keitel is running toward the cliff trying to stop the car from going off the cliff. That's how I thought about the Vin Baker trade when it happened. Then it happens and you just had this salary albatross. It's a salary cap league. And you're like, wow, we just threw away 20% of our salary cap on this trade. There's going to be a couple of those that are just franchise killers. And whether that leads to them bringing back the amnesty clause, who knows? I wish, I've made this, I've had this idea before. I wish that they had a rule in there that if you drafted a guy, every year that he stays in the team, you get rewarded in some way from a salary cap luxury tax type thing, right? So Jaylen was 2016 draft, this would be his eighth year. Maybe like after the seventh year, because that's usually like the third contract. The guy stays in the team, maybe each year after that, he doesn't count for 2% of the luxury tax, up to like 30%, something like that. The point is the Warriors should be rewarded for keeping Draymond and Klay and Curry from a tax standpoint, that they were that smart to draft those guys, keep those guys together. They should be incentivized, the players, to want to stay with them because there's some luxury tax stuff that the team gets. And the team should want to be incentivized to take care of those guys because it's also beneficial to them. I just wish they figured out some version of that rule. Anyway, Jaylen was always signing for $304 million. Talk to me in a year, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Next thing, I missed the running back pity party. This was crazy. The running backs all got together and they were really upset about how much money they made. And I don't know what to tell you. There's too many running backs and not enough running back spots. And I don't know if you're trying to build a responsible salary cap team in a collectively bargained era, why would you spend $30 million over two years on a running back unless the running back was awesome? Nobody even wants to spend more than $11 million on running back. So I knew that this was crazy when Damien Harris, who was on the Patriots, who I thought was really good. He's maybe not an elite running back, but a good running back, right? Somebody that if he had been on the Chiefs, he easily could have started for the Chiefs. And he signed with the Bills for like one year, 2 million. And when that happened, combined with Pacheco on the Chiefs' seventh round pick, they won the Super Bowl with him. It's just, this position's devalued. I work on this player, I've been actually working on it the last couple of weeks where I try to rank the players for blue chippers, red chippers, pink chippers, honorable mention, and have this whole point system. And so quarterbacks, Mahomes, who's the alpha of that position, he's worth 10 points. And you could even see this in the point spread. If Mahomes gets hurt, the Chiefs are 10 points, nine points, whatever, less than what they would be as a favorite. They'd switch to an underdog. And you go on down the line. Jalen Hurts, I had him as an eight. I had Joe Burrow as a nine. And you go on, you keep going down, and it's like, Geno Smith's probably a two. But then you look at some of the other positions and you have to value them the same way the salary cap values them and teams value them. Guards, they aren't worth that much. Running backs, sorry, they're not worth that much. My top running back was three points because ultimately running backs don't really matter that much. In the last like five, six years, I would say Derrick Henry was the only running back that you could definitively say, this guy almost won the Super Bowl. Like he was that good. Other than that, you know, it's plug and play, quarterbacks, it's receivers. It's much harder to find the number one receiver. Every team needs one. It's much more tangible if you don't have the number one receiver. And it's much easier to just kind of scrap together the running back position. And yet people went nuts about this. We ironically had this in the NBA with centers. You know, Vucevic, who's a really good offensive player, he signed for 60 million for three years, 20 million a year. And Jaylen Brown's going to make $52 million a year. Is Jaylen Brown two and a half times better than Vucevic? No, it's just, he plays a way more important position. You can only play one center at a time. You can patch together the center position. You could have like Isaiah Hartenstein for $8 million. You could, you know, get Robert Williams for 16. You don't need to spend what Phoenix did on Eaton where they're paying $8 and $30 million a year at center. And you don't really need to do that. You kind of feel obligated if you don't want to lose the asset. But I think the NBA is going to go this way eventually where unless it is Jokic or Embiid, the center or Bam Adebayo, it's a bonus. You could argue that was already an overpay. They gave him a huge extension. The Lakers just gave Anthony Davis $60 million a year as an extension. I would argue that's a little frightening. I feel like you could patch together the center position. What really matters in basketball is having the creator. And this was the argument five years ago with Luka versus Eaton for the number one pick. And I made this argument. It was like, go look at who wins the NBA title every year. It's always the people who have the creator. There's somebody who's on the perimeter of the ball in their hands. Even Jokic, who wins the title this year, he was a creator. He's not a typical center, right? He's basically their point guard on offense who could post up. So this happened in the NBA. Nobody went nuts. And this is happening in football. And this is where football is. If you want to make the most amount of money playing in the NFL, I don't know why you would be a running back. I would be a cornerback. I would be a wide receiver. I'd be an edge rusher. But if you're a running back, you know your shelf life's probably like five, six years. You know the money is not totally gonna be there. Now they're in this, like you have people like JK Dobbins, like, I might hold out. It's like, really? You didn't barely even play in the field. Barkley said he was gonna hold out. And then, you know, probably looked at it. And the money for Barkley is like 10, 11 million. That's unfortunately the market. So you can't fix this. They collectively bargained it. And until we get to the next CBA, I don't know how you fix it. I thought it was really weird. It felt like people had nothing to talk about. And it was like, ah, let's feel bad for running backs. All right, let's take a break. And then I'm gonna finish the rest of the six pack. All right, picking up on the six pack. We're gonna talk a little more football. I talked about the running back pity party. This is a different kind of party. The Jets optimism, which has just been stunning to me over the course of July. I have Jets fans in my life. These are people that usually have no hope and are very reminiscent of the pre-2004 Red Sox fans, just assuming the worst at all times. Why does God hate us? All that stuff. And now they have this crazy optimism based on the fact that they brought in Aaron Rodgers, who I did not think was very good last year, just throwing that out there. I wouldn't say he was bad, but for Rodgers, he was bad. I mean, we thought Rodgers was, he was the reigning MVP and we thought he was still one of the five or six most impactful players in the league. And I don't wanna read stats to you for the next six minutes, but deep balls, he was bad. Turnovers, he was bad. Leadership, he was bad. And the case for Rodgers coming back would be, well, he's gonna be rejuvenated. The Jets, New York City. This is his team. He got away from Green Bay. He's got Hackett back. I get it, but he's also at an age where we've really only seen Tom Brady succeed at a high, high level at the age that Rodgers is at. I was trying to figure it out. I have my QB ratings and I had, you know, the top tier is Mahomes and Burrow and Allen and Herbert and Hertz. Those have to be the top five. Then it drops off and it's Lamar Jackson and Lawrence. And then Rodgers, probably a hair underneath him with a chance to play himself up with those guys. But from what we saw last year, I'm not ready to put him there. So he's the 10th best quarterback in the league, probably. 10th or ninth best quarterback in the league, probably. Well, they have no offensive line. And I don't understand why people keep glossing over this where it's like, hey, Rodgers and Garrett Wilson, he's one of the best receivers in the league and Breece Hall's going to come back and the defense is really good. And it's like, yeah, the offensive line is terrible. Beckton and Dwayne Brown, sure tackles again. And then you have Robert Salah as the coach, who I cannot say I thought that Jets were crisply coached last year. Whatever he was doing with Zach Wilson was insane. No idea if that guy's even a decent coach. So I'm already worried about your offensive line, the age of your quarterback, and the competency of your coach. And that's before we get into the hard knocks curse, because for some reason they're doing hard knocks, the incredible Super Bowl hype already. And then we have the schedule, which is the AFC East has just got screwed by the schedules this year. The Jets, just for quarterbacks in 17 games, they got to play Josh Allen twice, they got to play Mahomes, Herbert, Hertz, Dak Prescott, and Deshaun Watson. And then they also have to play Miami twice. We'll see what we get out of two this year. And then a really good Pats defense. And then Denver, who knows, they might be rejuvenated. So Danny Dimes, they have to play him. It is a brutal schedule, so you have that. And then on top of everything else, you're the Jets. I was there with the Red Sox before 2004, and this is probably just as bad, where you just think the worst possible things can happen is all the time. You're not allowed to have optimism when you're Jets fans. You can be cautiously optimistic. There was an entire Curb Your Enthusiasm episode once, season 10, episode seven, about being a Jets fan. And it was called, I think, the ugly section. Nick Kroll was the maitre d'. And part of the episode was about, he would put these people in different sections of the restaurant, depending on how attractive they were. But there was this other plot, Larry's buddy who loved the Jets, kills himself. And Larry becomes convinced it was because of the Jets, that the Jets killed his friend. This was only a couple of years ago. So now they get Aaron Rodgers, and everything's good. And they're gonna win the Super Bowl. I don't see it, guys. I don't wanna step on my football stuff too much, but I'd be shocked. And Lombardi points out the defense that everybody's ready to compare to the 85 Bears. Lombardi said they had two turnovers over the last eight games last season. So that means something too. I am dubious, to say the least. If you're gonna tell me a tortured franchise actually turns it around this year, I want a tortured franchise that doesn't have expectations. Because the Lions are another one. Everybody's ready to put them in the Super Bowl or close. And the only case for them is just pretty explosive offense. They couldn't stop anybody last year. And the NFC is terrible. But that's another one where is that a fan base that should be super excited and have a ton of hype? The one that's kind of lurking that fits in this group is the Browns. Because the Browns are actually super talented. They're in a winnable division. Burroughs already hurt. And I think they're four to one to win the AFC North on FanDuel, something like that. Their over-under is, I think it climbed up.

First, coming out of the gate, I'm gonna open a six -pack because we have a lot to discuss over the past three weeks, all the stuff I missed. And I'm gonna open a six -pack. She was right from the get -go. This team, you could see it before the Vietnam game when it was like, look at the new Nike suits. Look at these new suits. And they're all like styling as they head into the locker room. And they're running commercials. And every player has a commercial. There's players who've never done anything of that commercials. And the vibe was just off. They only beat Vietnam three -nothing in a bracket where goal differential was gonna be super -duper important. But they need to re -imagine this. The thing that made them the most special and has made them the most special for the last five, six years is the Jaylen Brown -Jason Tatum combo. And optionality the that comes out of it is frightening. I remember in the early 2000s, when the first time the contracts kind of went nuts and you would see that people get signing like six -year, $100 million deals, seven -year, $110 million deals. And you're like, wow, we just threw away 20 % of our salary cap on this trade. The guy stays in the team, maybe each year after that, he doesn't count for 2 % of the luxury tax, up to like 30%, something like that. And is this where football is. These are people that usually have no hope and are very reminiscent of the pre -2004 Red Sox fans, just assuming the worst at all times. Their over -under is, I think it climbed up.

Isaiah Hartenstein Megan Rapinoe Carli Lloyd Lynn Williams Trinity Rodman Embiid Nick Kroll Robert Salah Damien Harris Alyssa Thompson Josh Allen Alex Morgan Derrick Henry Sophia Smith Jalen Hurts Chris Ryan Brian Raftery Zoe Simmons Denzel Valentine Jaylen Brown

"What? A young stud. She is. 20 two years old. Ugh. Wow. So impressive. My takeaway land is that I felt it was a good reminder when you follow your passion and you surround yourself with good people, good things often follow. She had the friend that said, come on, you should play. Got her into club. The coach that said, come on, you should try this team so you can be further seen. The Ethiopian community that said, come one, come all small, medium, or large, every Saturday. And she just kept saying, I just, you know, the fact that she stayed with her club, that entire but ten years is so unusual. So nice to hear. Love it. So I have several takeaways. First tour are quick. I can't even tell you how satisfying it was that you won the Lin game on a bachelor question. I don't know. That should count as like 5 wins. I just won the season because of that. It just seems like a culmination for me, not for you, but of me that because I know how much you can not stand the show. So the fact that you won on a bachelor question, I feel like that was just, that was an accomplishment. I get a gold star. It's been a gold star. It's fruity, Judy. Oh my goodness. I mean, I don't know that I've laughed that hard ever on the podcast. Well, me and ham split pan story. Of you telling fruity Judy stories, pretty Judy. She's a gem that one. They go on for days. I just sit down, I might need to be a recurring segment. Have I never told that story? Not that story. I don't think I've ever heard that story, period. Even really? Yeah, even Naomi was like, she even said in the episode that her cheeks were hurting because she was laughing so much. I told her she made the episode. She goes, what? I just say about me. I said, well, mom, you're gonna have to listen. I can not tell you I'd have to kill you and I love you too much. Top secret. Okay, now to the actual content of the interview. Oh, I would just thought it was such a mic drop moment when I said how veteran players were teaching her that you are demanding what you deserve. I mean, can we just get that on a billboard or I don't know how do we blast that out to everyone? Yeah. Yeah, I wish I had someone well it was Billie Jean King who told me that. I didn't have an older veteran. I thought that after the episode that that was the origin of it, Billie Jean King, saying don't settle don't sell for the crumb. The power of this. Yeah, you deserve this. Go get it. Yeah. I would think that had to be so cool for you to even hear that, just that all these generations later, and it's really now that's the standard. Yeah, 'cause we so wanted to pass on that baton to Abby or to Alex or to carli, whoever was beyond behind us, you know, of this is important. Make sure you pass this on to the younger generation. And so to hear that, I was like, oh, yeah. It definitely always feels like a full circle moment. It's very maternal. Yeah. Questions permitted, and what do we got in the grab bag this week? So next week, next episode marks our 100th episode. Can you please share with the dope village what our plans are for it? Well, we decided that the 100th episode should be something that we haven't done in a very long time. And that is grab all the 90 niners that we can. And have a happy hour. Reunion. How to help that hump there, Wednesday is hump day, hundred episode is gonna be a hump day episode of a happy hour reunion with the 99 as you never know what you're gonna get. And I can guarantee you it ain't gonna be very clean. Sometimes we might have to bleep it. I apologize in advance. No. These are, as we know, very funny women that we just don't, I mean, we see each other at angel city games, but that's not everyone. We text a lot together. We don't like visually see each other. I don't think we've ever done a zoom like this. Oh, wow. So, I am super pumped. And I'm getting a good response. Nice. A lot of people can do it, so I think people should start sending their questions in, right? So what do you think? Here's the deal. I have really big news to report. I created breaking news. A laughter permitted email so that our dope village can send in questions and really specifically we'll start off with questions for the 99 or so the email is laughter permitted at Gmail dot com. Again, we are that is laughter permitted at Gmail dot com. We are so sophisticated. We're getting legitimized. We have, we've got a G mail. So along with a Gmail, I'll definitely make a social tile that Julie will put up on her Instagram, Twitter, if anyone knows how to DM, feel free to DM me on Instagram. I don't DM a lot, but I can keep an eye out. So just please feel free to hit us up anyway possible. And the question being, what question do you have for the 90 niners? Let us know. Yes. I can't wait. Episode 100. I know. In the meantime, please leave a comment on our Apple podcast page because we really do enjoy reading them. And why not rate and subscribe to the podcast because it makes a huge difference and shows that yes, we have people paying attention and this space matters all these awesome women, the stories need to be heard. And be sure to share your favorite episode with a member or, I don't know, maybe 500 members of your village, thank you, as always, to ally, and exporting goods for their support, and of course to Kate Diaz for our awesome theme music. And remember, as always, kids, sing it with us. Laughter permitted. You're demanding what you deserve, I think

"Nil. 21 time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic is likely to miss both Indian Wells and the Miami open in March as the U.S. has extended the vaccine mandate for foreigners to April 10th. Djokovic who famously has not gotten vaccinated is currently playing the Adelaide international in Australia. Finally, the Red Sox and third baseman Rafael Devers finalizing an 11 year $331 million contract, the largest dealing length and dollars ever handed out by the team. I'm Dan schwarzman that your Bloomberg world sports update, Brian. All right, thanks very much, Dan. 16 minutes here before the top of the hour interesting discussion coming up, Carly Garner joins us, senior commodity strategist and broker at de carli trading. So with oil, we have this interesting sort of dichotomous movement here, the oil price has fallen quite dramatically on the complicated reopening in China. It just thought that all these new COVID cases will delay the benefits from the reopening. While stocks have really bought it to the upside, I'm curious which market is right or is it just the difference between kind of spot considerations versus futures? Well, I think we're looking at a situation where market positioning is kind of driving momentum. And what I mean by that is a couple of weeks ago when oil tested 70 for the first time on the downside. We had a couple of news events that the term price is pretty quickly and that was the reopening of China and also the Biden administration refilling the SPR. And so there were a lot of speculators that stepped in and bought at those levels with the expectation of much, much higher crude prices. I mean, we all know for the last year or so speculators have been looking for a $100 plus oil and they haven't gotten what they've looked for. But they're willing to buy into those dips. And I think the fact that the rally fell short and kind of ran out of steam forced all of those buyers out to the sidelines. And I think this probably continues. I think we probably run some stops below 70. And test the high 60s, but in the overall scheme of things, at this point, all the froth that was built into the market in the spring, when oil prices went above hundred and much higher, has really been wiped out. If you look at the CO2 report issued by the CFTC, speculators are holding the smallest net long position they've held in several years. And usually when speculators have thrown in the towel on oil, that's exactly when the trend changes. So I expect somewhere between 65 and 70 to be a place for the bowls to get some footing. So Carly, that brings me 96 to say why a haven't oil price is gone further, everything priced in. That's one part of my question. The other thing is OPEC are likely to be happy, an OPEC plus likely to be happy with the prices as you just predicting. And I'm saying, you know, if we don't look at the mean average, is it more a case of looking at the mode average of each member? Well, one thing that I should point out is the China that comes back online is not the same China that went offline. I think they're experiencing some economic weakness. Kind of similar to if you look at the travel situation globally and especially in the U.S., it's just not as fun to travel in 2022 or 23 as it was 2019. So even as travel was reopening, it wasn't as robust as maybe some people had assumed it to be. So I think you're right. OPEC would love to see oil prices hold in the 65, $70 area. If you look at a weekly chart for years now, almost two decades, 65, 70 has really been a significant pivot point. In fact, it's kind of been almost the line between bull market and bear market. So this is really important what happens here. But I do think that sentiment has gotten so weak and speculators are so sidelined that there's plenty of room for buying power if prices firm up. And I think that's what we're probably going to eventually get after a few rough days. If oil at some point sends a level of prediction of recession about what level for oil would that be, for instance, you're talking 65 to 70, the bulls will come back. What if it falls down into the 50s? And that's not impossible. I don't think that's going to happen on this path, but if we're talking a year or two down the road, absolutely, we'll see those numbers again. And the reason being, I mean, oil it's a limited resource, but at the same time, we're getting better and better at pulling it out of the ground. So as long as politics get out of the way, we have plenty of oil to get. It's just a matter of time going by and things working themselves out. And we've seen the oil market, the last trip we had up to a $150 a barrel in 2007, 2008. Ended in $30 oil within a year or so. So anything is possible and one thing I've learned about crude oil is it never puts in quiet bottoms or quiet tops. There's always lots of fireworks. So you want to be careful either way. Well, one commodity, which is not to produce any fireworks, and perhaps ought to have been, is gold, given all the uncertainty in the risks we've had out there in the last couple of years, are you surprised we've not seen it higher than where we are. And why is it not been seen as a haven anymore? What's the deal? You know, I agree with you a 100%. I've been expecting gold to behave much better than it has. It's at a rough year considering the backdrop. This is probably the best fundamental backdrop we've seen in gold almost ever, and it still couldn't get off the mat. But I think that what was going on is the dollar was holding it down. And there were still a lot of the idea that maybe Bitcoin was replacing gold was still floating around. I think that's probably dissipated. I think that's old news. And I think we start getting some hedging and investment dollars back into gold. Yeah, it could be that the dollar going down has driven gold up and may

"That you can see a doctor promptly reducing the taxes paid by ordinary hardworking people across the country. That was the foreign secretary James cleverly speaking at the party conference in Birmingham after at only 29 days in Paris, is struggling to keep control after her government's mini budget spooked financial markets and hammered support for the Tories in opinion polls. And now the OPEC plus countries are considering a reduction in production as by as much as 2 million barrels per day, although the impact on global supply could be smaller, delegates say that the group may discuss a cut of that size plus smaller reductions when it meets later today, Carly Garner is a scenic commodity strategist at de carli trading. She says that the cartel is unlikely to go for a major supply cut. You know, I think at this point in time, I think they're talking their book. I think it's more of a psychological strategy as opposed to actually pulling barrels off the market. They don't want to encourage shale oil producers to pick up production and take market share. They also don't want to encourage the consumers finding substitutes. So I think that they will probably stick to something closer to half a million or a million, even that is probably just a token. So that was the commodity strategist Carly Garner who also told Bloomberg that several OPEC plus members are already pumping far below their official quotas, meaning that they won't have to curb production even if limits are cards. Ray dalio has given up giving up control of Bridgewater associates the firm he built into the world's largest hedge fund, the billionaire cofounder transferred all of his voting rights to the board of directors and stepped down as one of Bridgewater's co CIOs at the end of September. The move marks the end of a succession process which started back in 2010. Okay, those are a few of our top stories in a moment we're going to bring you more coverage of the Conservative Party conference, including with the justice minister who I spoke to yesterday and professor John Curtis, who really is the leading pollster here in Britain, but I want to look ahead also to some of the other key things that we're watching out for today, of course Liang garands has the details and that includes what's happening in Birmingham. Yes, indeed, so it's going to say, and that includes that Conservative Party conference who just talking about at 11 o'clock we're expecting the keynote speech from the prime minister Liz truss from this year's conference which is happening in Birmingham will be bringing our UK listeners that speech live so tune in. Now at 12 UK time we'll have a U.S. MBA mortgage applications those figures coming in then at 1 p.m. will have U.S. ADP employment change data followed at two 30 p.m. by the S&P Global U.S. PMIs. So a slew of data coming over from the states also today OPEC plus meets in Vienna as markets watch to see if the group decides to cut oil production yet again, our very own Bloomberg's Manus cranny is in Vienna today for that meeting. Later, Atlanta feds Rafael bostic discusses inflation during a virtual event hosted by the northwestern university. And here in the UK, so if you're traveling to work this morning and you just listening to us, I'm sure you already know this, but there's a fresh rail strike hitting the network again this morning led by drivers of asleep and the TSA. So always check before you travel to avoid any disappointment, but those rail strikes are happening. Yeah, but it basically I guess thank you so much. Well, the rail strikes, of course, caused by workers who want to see higher pay. That's one of the issues that I spoke to the justice minister Rachel McLean about. I've been at the Conservative Party conferences I've mentioned all of this week, including yesterday, and I had a chance to sit down with the justice minister. We had a really wide ranging interesting conversation. She told me that the government needs a sensible approach to public finances. I began by asking her if the government is planning on cutting welfare in order to fund its already announced tax cuts. The DWP has a process to go through because of course they have to look at the actual inflation numbers as near as close as possible to the time that they have to make those welfare spending decisions. And you're actually also right to say the point here is that a lot of people in receipt of welfare are working. So they are working on low income jobs. So it is absolutely right that we look at the circumstances of those families. And as we've always said, and in fact, as we have acted all the way through the pandemic, what we've been clear about is we are protecting the most vulnerable people on low incomes, people who've got other long-term conditions, that's what we've been doing all the way through the pandemic. And that's what the welfare system under the conservative government has always done. And so actually, if you look at what the prime minister said, she still working through those numbers with the DWP secretary. And my understanding, that's an ongoing process. It's just that we haven't reached the conclusion of that. Okay. I'm sorry, but I'm a bit confused. It sounds like we're trying to say two things at the same time. I mean, there's a difference we've got double digit inflation in the UK. And the sorts of figures that I'm hearing if it weren't 10% is something much more in line with the private sector pay rises that people have seen which are perhaps half that level if that. So you're talking about a very significant difference in numbers, ten, 10% potentially versus three, four, 5% increase. That would be a big, big gap. But the point here is that the gap you're talking about is not a gap that's actually, it's not a definitive gap because as I said, I hope I am being clear here. I want to be clear. The decision hasn't been reached. So it's not a question of I'm coming on here, defending a big gap in people's incomes because we don't know if that gap is going to exist. So there's a process that DWP have to go through. Of course, they have to look at this in the round, but I would also, I think the other really important point actually, if people are listening to this, is to remember that, yes, we've got the welfare system that's protecting people. But we're also taking very comprehensive action to protect people from one of the major pressures on their household budgets, which is the catastrophic rise in energy bills. And we're also taking further action across the tax system. Again, to protect people and actually provide help with their budgets. So, of course, you're asking me about the welfare system, and that's fine. I'm happy to be as clear as I possibly can

"Are making a major decision when things start getting tough, what the Lakers do is they look to the people that they already know. That's what they do, right? They hire people that they already know that they trust their part of the family. Like if you already know or have a good relationship with the Lakers, there's a good chance they're going to hire you because they look at this as kind of like a family business type thing or whatever it is. That's why that's what they tend to do. And that's where you got to you can limit yourself in that way. Tremendously in terms of who you're bringing in, what kind of perspectives you're getting and that can have a negative effect on your franchise. And so I'm with you. I would agree. Bring in bring in somebody else. My gosh, if it was like, if Musa ujiri was somehow out there, am I going to bring him it, right? There's got to be. He would want blinkist position, though. Oh, yeah, yeah. Of course. But I'm just saying if there was somebody else that you could bring in, it shouldn't have to be a Laker. It doesn't have to be somebody who is a former Laker or the agent of a major Laker or something like that. That shouldn't be a prerequisite to being on the short list of people that you want to bring in to help make decisions. Hiring someone on merit Trevor, what are you talking about? It's crazy, right? "In Hong Kong and here in Singapore I'm Juliet Sully And I'm Doug Krishna at the Bloomberg interactive broker studio in New York We have equity trading underway in Tokyo Sydney and Seoul kind of a mixed picture on that front a couple of things moving lower at this hour One the price of crude oil two yields on U.S. treasuries will take a closer look momentarily when Brian Curtis joins us right now a few of the sours top business stories Well the minutes of last month's fed meetings show officials poised to raise a rates soon and they viewed persistently high inflation as having the potential to justify a faster pace of tightening U.S. consumer prices rose in January to a four decade high of 7 and a half percent Some fed participants could view this as a reason to raise rates by 50 basis points in March carli can is chairman of Icahn Enterprises and here's what the 86 year old investor had to say about the fed and the inflation outlook We keep putting out money putting out money putting out money to thank he was pushing it out there And that's great for a while I mean that's great It's like makes you happy but and at times it certainly needed But now that party has to stop what's going to happen is you having it already now the manifestations of it is rampant inflation And the fed also said that it expects the process of reducing its balance sheet to begin after it starts raising rates We're hearing SoftBank is asking banks to underwrite a margin loan of about $8 billion now this margin loan financing would be linked to arms initial public offering Sources telling us these banks are planning to pitch IPO valuations forearm That's the semiconductor unit of SoftBank for up to $50 billion Now this IPO is essentially a fallback call it plan B after the deal to sell arm to Nvidia collapsed over regulatory opposition That deal by the way was valued at more than $60 billion Renee Haas is arms new CEO Here he is on the failed acquisition Personally disappointed but also excited going forward Jensen's a fantastic leader thought the combination would have been fantastic between the two companies At the same time honestly we're just glad to have the uncertainty over It was a really long regulatory process The deal was announced back in September Here it is February candidly the uncertainty that we were under Having that behind us is really terrific I think going forward we've just got a lot of reasons for optimism Now based on industry metrics and analyst projections arm is likely worth between 25 to $35 billion Well as in pay global ratings is downgraded Las Vegas Sands to junk the company citing a slower recovery in the Macau gaming market Las Vegas Sands owns and operates casino records results in Macau and Singapore The gaming industry there has struggled to recover from the pandemic especially as on the cron case's spike across the world in recent months S&P now rate sans one step below investment grade meanwhile sans is still rated investment grade by moody's and Fitch ratings Fans will fall out of investment grade bond indexes if it receives another downgrade Let's get over to the markets now and check in with Brian Curtis Brian Well Juliet not all that much happening It's a fairly quiet session We've got the nikkei down about a third of 1% The ASX is up about a half a percent and the cost is higher If you look at the MSCI Asia Pacific index though it's essentially flat just slightly in the green up less than a tenth of a percent Oil dropping in Asia on signs that a nuclear deal with Iran might be close and also it just seems like tensions have come down a little bit between Russia and Ukraine Singapore lifted its reading for GDP last year to 7.6% from an earlier 7.2 and GDP is projected to expand three to 5% this year Meantime the Australian economy probably didn't add any new jobs last month and the unemployment rate is seen as holding at 4.2% based on Bloomberg surveys Some interesting notes city strategists see some room for more rotation out of U.S. stocks and we had Roblox and Shopify plunging The video game companies bookings fell short of estimates while Shopify gave a weaker growth outlook for the year So we mentioned that oil prices were down right now $90 95 cents a barrel Bitcoin is tracking a little bit lower gold is steady maybe just up a little bit And as Doug mentioned yields down on treasuries the two year yield down another two basis points to 1.50% and the tenure at two O one and that is look at markets Juliet to you Thank you Brian And we did this in the last couple of minutes get those jobs numbers from Australia surprising once again as you say zero jobs were expected but 12.9 thousand were actually added the unemployment rate remaining at 4.2% It is 35 minutes past the hour time for global.

"And i think like what you're talking about here is often times the thing that a lot of people don't focus on which is the importance of recovery. Like you found that this one rest day is integral for you. I'm sure you have other recovery tactics in your routine that help you be the best player that you can be whereas a lot of people think it's like just train train train train train train train and it's so much bigger than that time off can be unlocked. Which sounds like you found for yourself definitely Having ten months hiatus you know knee injury Not that. I want to be injured. I think it was. It was good. It's routine massages it's Eating well sleeping. well hydrating nutrition. Making sure i'm eating all the right things and then my training my routine. Miss santos was gorgeous in on assuming wouldn't steal your husband kind of way this woman this professional couldn't be todd's carly that would be ridiculous spanish opera ridiculous trashy television ridiculous. All that would be ridiculous. Which is what these fiction writers. Do we create these ridiculous scenarios and then try to have the characters work their way out of it. And so i love this. You know trickled like the moment. You notice inconsistencies. In the company's accounts i can only come from someone who actually has noticed inconsistencies and companies accounts. Yeah it's the idea of putting yourself inside your characters frame of reference straight when you do metaphors and analogies. I'm having a lot of fun with that right now because my second book that i'm working on is actually a digital nomad instagram. Or who is an adventure travel instagram. Or so she does all the crazy crazy stuff like throwing herself off flips and so all of metaphors and analogies are really fun ones but throwing yourself off cliffs or flying or surfing. Are all of these fun leads. So one thing we didn't say i don't believe with carly carly the one that can be plenty of carly's but it turns out to be de carli that the husband is having an affair with We find out in the first chapter with her that Her point of view that You know she sort of shot it During the course of the meeting she's meeting this person for the first time it's gonna fund their company. She ran past note across to her. That says something like you know. What the hell are you doing here. Why would you possibly show up. And she's like she can't figure out what's going on. What what kind of bad impression did she make. and she's a survivor self. But here's the part that i found so intriguing to. She's engaged to time and she doesn't know the todd's mary to another woman. This todd guy mean come on did you just take everything bad that you've seen him in and silicon valley and put them all into todd. He's definitely on the on the evil or side. Although he does have some redeeming features you'll see by the end of the book. There is actually a moment of interesting redemption. it's not quite retention but you discovery. He's not exactly the the caricature bad guy that the reader wants to believe that he has he has some redeeming things he's done in his life but I really needed to make it really bad for the two one and i needed to make it really bad for rain in particular that it couldn't be as simple as i'll just divorce him like i really wanted to make her struggle with getting out of the relationship as a way that she and carly could bond in that they'd understand each other and some of the stakes they'd made over time. Add so yeah. Todd is definitely on on the bad sociopathic end of the husbands. You'd never wanna have scale. I will tell you the as. I was researching this book and i was looking at some of the forums. Did you know there's actually forums where you can register your husband because you think he might be married to people in other states like this exists and you can go look up people on these forums and read the stories and the the wife at one st will share the whole detail and this intention see the wife another state pop-up and share her whole detail on the same guy and so knowing that this actually does happen. Gave me more confidence. That i wasn't going so far down the path that this was completely unrealistic and could never happen. Yeah it actually happens. It's insane know. Databases all the. Us states aren't yet linked. Am in fact. My husband. And i got married a few years ago and we were shocked when we went to get married in san francisco that all we needed was a driving licence to sign the piece of paper and i was like. Don't you wanna don't you wanna run a background check. Make sure neither of us already married will. Oh no we don't do that assisting marriages It is a work in progress. Anyway and takes a lot of effort. I'm saying this from stanford on having to put up with me but You know. I'm just thinking that's hard enough. I mean who wants to be married two or three other times. I mean that that that the logistics of that come on. Yeah like it feels like you could never relax because you'd be constantly trying to plan like what did they say yesterday. And where i where did they say was yeah i i. I wouldn't have the energy for it personally. But todd does just because you know after they find out and you described the phone call where they confronted confront Carly and kind kinda pushing back. They sort of stumble upon the fact that Todd is trying to win both of them back at the same time And they're both going through this. Take him back on a thing and then when they find out that todd was doing that at the same time that he was assuring each of them that everything was fine. They sort of at that point bond together. Forget okay we got. We got to work together. Women power split todd down but then you bring in the lawyers the divorce and tot the scheme and i'm not going to reveal what happens but it becomes really difficult for rent to get out of the situation and and carly as well and then you throw nice. Twist in at the end. Did this kind of this. Whole story Are you gotta. Ryder does evolve over time. "I mean when i was twenty one and i took a job warehouse. The six figures right away at college The unc degree right there. Right and then. I got drafted. I had a real decision to make. That was that was really hard. Especially when you're young. You know our country pretty greedy. I i grew up poor so i was like holy crap. This is more money than i've ever seen in my life I think our parents generation to really good job of going after kind of our drains. My mom did anyways and I see that a lot with the people that stayed in the league that are fighting that have been in the league for a long time. They're like no. No amount of money is going to make me leave. And that's why her league is so great The people that stay are so invested in soccer and they wanna be role models for younger kids in basically it goes to either you retire early to get a real job in this league. Can't stand however we're making improvements in The ones did take three jobs that are continuing their soccer growth. This leak grow so so. I don't know like when i was in seattle and i took three jobs All i could think about was getting better as a soccer player so i did a happy that anymore which is specially made the us team because financially. They're doing day and It but then. I met so many rad. Women's soccer players women's sports in general That are fighting for better. Better pay and i think dismayed awesome strides. And we're going to continue to grow your that struggle as motivation mentality is is one. We've heard a lot. We had philippe a on the show a couple months ago and he was basically talking about like the american play. The american male player. The one that gets at a college This is his perspective from being from brazil and playing sort of his. He's had a pretty or focus career as well but that there's always the fallback plan. There's a good fallback plan in the united states. Junior probably going to either get into coaching. Or you'll far you'll find a job that you're making good A good living if you went to college. He's like in brazil. That was not the case. Like you it's it's a you. The motivation to succeed is so high. Because the the price of failure is gonna pay. And i think like you said like having to work all those jobs and still being a professional athlete and having to keep your body in shape you can is the best motivation. I've got. I've got to keep going up because this is not long term sustainable for anybody right so so one of the i was kind of watching watching looking up Some some of the videos. The team produces on twitter and on monday. They had the one that was posted about Think it was when i made it. And he talked about your experience a break in carli. lloyd's ankles in a in a game and In going in and but the interesting part with that is that a believe you talked about also meeting the former. Us women's coach at at a coaching license. So i want to. Obviously that was an awesome moment to to to punk a world champion. But i think also wants a little bit. Are you sort of seeing sort of jumping right into two coaching After playing that kind of your next step or was the opportunity there. And you're like i'll take this in. Maybe i'll figure it out or do you see yourself becoming a coach in the future question and i go back or i see myself as a good coach in. I love helping kids during season. I found out that like it kind of exhausting. Four all energy into his kids with them..

"Yeah, like the more CDC in these public health experts talk, the less confidence we have in them because they keep saying things they're just Patently absurd and and don't don't track with, like Common sense or the data. By the way today, President Beau Biden and CDC announced that if you are fully vaccinated, you no longer have to wear a mask. Outdoors. I'm like, way back up the back of the cart, okay? First. If I'm vaccinated, I should have to wear a mask anyway, because If you're right and in 95% success rate that I'm not gonna be spreading covered 19 other people, But secondly, who the hell wears a mask outdoors? I mean, seriously, you are You're outdoors. I take my mask off when I'm walking outdoors on. I kind of keep myself a little distance from someone because I'm out in the fresh air completely distant from people. I take my mask off. Travis, Do you take your mask off when you're outdoors? Yeah. 100% and I and I'm courteous of people of you know what If I'm walking by someone, I'll put it on real quick and then or you stay social justice or you are stating socially Justin, but like on a sidewalk or something, and No one's around. I don't have a mask on So He says, Uh We have that audio starting today if you're fully vaccinated outdoors, But not in a big crowd. You could go without the mask. You have that one number one ready for Let's go with it. Yeah. Starting today. If you're fully vaccinated. You're outdoors. You need and not a big crowd. You no longer need to wear a mask. I want to be absolutely clear. If you're in a crowd, like a stadium, Arctic conference or concert. You still need to wear a mask. Even if you're outside Beginning today. Gather the group of friends. In a park. Going for a picnic. As long as you are vaccinated and outdoors. You couldn't do it without a mask. Well, anyway, you just Candidate can't contradicted himself, he said. If you're outdoors And in a big crowd. You have to wear a mask. But if you're outdoors and vaccinated Uh, In a big round. You don't have to wear a mask. Is that what he's saying? No, he's saying no matter what you have to have a mask on if you're in a big crowd doesn't matter if you're vaccinated or not, But if you're not in a big crowd, you don't have to wear it. Essentially what he threw out there was Hey, if you go get vaccinated, you can now go have a picnic outside. That's that's your Your prize for getting vaccinated, but they're not in my household, So we're not to worry about the households anymore. Well, I don't I think is a slogs its people that either you know, or a very small group long as everyone has access to the person. I'm not in the same household. I could go ahead and say OK, I can I can be with them. Yeah. Do you How many people know me? They would have said they want with Carli. I know him. I see him on kus. I I listen, Tonto Kogo, So yeah, I could totally go without a mask. I don't buy this crap. Okay? I don't buy it. This has no credibility in my mind. It undermines any confidence I have in these boobs on but I can only imagine I'm not the only 1 806 100 Coco 806 105 646 at Carl Tamayo. Are you done with this? You just completely done with people telling you Well, if it's Tuesday, and it's freezing drizzle but not actually snowing and you've been vaccinated and you are left handed, But you are a transgender lesbian, then, yes, you don't have to wear a mask. But if it's on Wednesday Then you have to, Unless it's actually snow, in which case you don't have to. They're making this so Complex and there's no science behind it. There's no data. Remember all the recommendations. I'm gonna wipe everything down and wash our hands. And do we know the sanitization rituals? What they call it eyes. CDC came out and and confirmed what we all knew. Centralization. Theater hygiene. Details are called Hygiene Theater, so CDC actually came up with the term for Mocking Americans who followed the CDC guidance toe wipe everything down, and they called it You don't have to engage in hygiene theater anymore. We have found that wiping things down really doesn't quite You know, it's not necessary, which, if you call it hygiene, theater, Anything. Theater is just to show you were just doing it as a show. Yes, but But why did we do what we did it? Because the CDC told us we had to do it. We just suddenly start doing this stuff all of these white B downs. These regulations are all part of federal, state and local guide books on covert 19. So we don't just suddenly say we need to have that sort of y p Remember when they came out with the initial guidance, saying that how long covered 19 stays? Alive on the surface, and they said, Well, here's a cardboard box and it stays alive for X number of days. But here's metal on and stainless steel like a normal appliance in your kitchen, and it stays for this amount over here. We have remember that granted, you know countertops and I'm thinking myself. Oh, my goodness. Like I have to wash everything down and There were weeks that we would call go to the grocery store, and when we came in, we had our I'm sure I'm not the only one doing this. So stop making fun of me in your car. Okay? Way would go in. We would go to the grocery store. We would we would have gloves, plastic gloves. And masks. And we would, then you know, buy our stuff We would then, like almost as though we were touching like radioactive stuff. We would then take the gloves off and put them into a trash can and seal it And then we'd come home and then we wipe down every bit. Of groceries that we that we brought Bob before before we put it into the covered or order the chin, the the fridge. I know for a fact. I'm not the only one doing that. Okay? I'm not currently doing it on Lee one past tense, Who did it, And then I wised up. Realizing these people are idiots. They're telling us to do something. They don't even know what the hell they're talking about. 806 100 Kogo 806 105 646. Let's go to Robert. Robert. Line one. You got the floor. Carl Junk. Uncle Joe is like that embarrassing grandpa. He's using. He's a fool. I have not been wearing a mask outside for months, because I said, This is just ridiculous. There's like 50,000 ft away from any other person. I heard that today on the news, and I thought, Well, that's the dumbest thing ever. I don't Don't get anybody who follows them. It's like, why do we have to have the government tell us what we know is common sense through the door. No, it is common sense. And I've also now that I've gotten my vaccine, I'm you know, I'm not gonna be wearing a mask of most people really need to feel good about themselves for me to wear a mask and I'll do it just to be a kind soul and considerate. Um, but but we're at this point where you all told us to get the vaccine. You said it was 95% Effective s O. Why in the world are we doing more mask wearing? And they don't have an answer for that. By the way, they don't have an answer. And when you ask that question, you know people like Fauci two weeks ago to Tucker Carlson accused him of being a conspiracy theorist. No, Mr Fauci, this is what everyone's asking us..

The black falcon and another person looks over. I'm corrections says no that's kept in america but then after all that Sam he flies down and joins bookie and john walker in. Currently you know she's like. I can't believe you bought into all of this and He he's he's like. I'm just accepted. I'm trying to new thing and anyway The guy that that Sam was fine earlier. He comes and he blows smoke bombs so that everybody can scatter in so all flags masters there they go into the abandoned building in Bucky john in tam follow in you know and they all split up because they often go know for all the different flags masters and carlito. She hears whistling in thinking You know it's her. It's her people and so she's walking through there. And sharon comes around the corner and you know it's it's not our people sharing but anyway sharon is telling carly drop her weapon and of course carl he's not doing it and Carli till sharon that. She's disappointed in her in for a minute. That you're like what you know and But anyway and sharon tells carla that. She's disappointed in her. Two and i started talking to like familiar with each other. 'cause it's revealed that Sharon is the powerbroker and sharon. You know she's all telling carly that you know she can come work for her and carly's like you just want us for our muscle because you know. Currently the one i mean. Carli took the super soldier serum from sharon. You know and Sharon needs her muscles. She needs. She needs her super soldiers. You know that's what they're sharon was doing was trying to make more super soldiers so and carly Interfered took all that from her. So but anyway As they're talking that That french guy. I cannot remember his name guys that if y'all know his name Let me know. Because i mean i guess i should google it and find out because it's going to be the last time i'm talking about the show but At this point. I don't know but anyway. Oh yeah i'm in. Let me let me just take a minute. Right here because In a couple episodes back. I brought up The hulk in his whole you know. I thought that he was. You know super soldier going wrong. You know and i i was trying to figure out you know where he lays into all this and so i googled it and what i found out was that Bruce banner was working on a super soldier serum or something like that and it went wrong. So that's why the hulk is the way he is but anyways that's gone down a tangent but anyway so back to disguise come up and he is Want to be paid by Sharing because you know. She promised him that she would pay him. You know I guess what was it three times. You know what she owed him but anyway he said that. If you don't pay me then i'll reveal to everybody who you are and She's like i don't do blackmail so she shoots him and kills him and carly I guess shoots at sharon and in sam walks up right here and Carli tell sam to stay back 'cause he doesn't sam doesn't realize what he's walked in on and But anyway carly sam they start fighting and Sam sam won't fight back you know he's like i wanna help you and everything in And but Carly knocks him down. And she says she tells him to stay down and he's and he gets up and says no now. I have seen several posts on the internet. You know media's where this was his one chance to say Do this all day. But he didn't That would have been really kobe. St rogers line. So i'm kinda glad that That sam didn't say this but anyway so it goes to the flag smashers Group in her following a thing on their app on their phone. And you know they think they're i think they're following Carly's orders but Come to find out that it was bucky because he had that phone So they've been following orders from bucky and anyway they run into bucky and john walker in he he makes a quote. About abraham lincoln mercy bears greater fruit than strict justice and You know and then bucky reveals. You know how he tracked down. Anyway they're all arrested and He goes back to carlene salmon. They're fighting and of course Sam's not really fighting and carly is trying to get him to fight back but He gets knocked down and she picks up the gun and sees aiming at him and Before she has a chance to shoot though. Sharon shoots her and so She dies in sam's arms carly does and so sam takes her and lays you know he comes down out of the sky holding carly there and he lays her on a gurney in a government. People that he just helped save ca. Start running up to him and and thanking him for for doing what he did in everything in this next Seen he does he. I mean he could say it better than i could I'm gonna risk it again. I'm going to play a little bit of the episode for you. Hold on sincerely. You did part dealing with those terrorists. And we'll do ours. Are you still going forward. Resetting the borders peacekeeping troops will begin relocating people. The terrorists only set us back. A bit have stopped calling them terrorists. What else would we call your peacekeeping troops carrying weapons of forcing millions of people in the settlements around the world right. What do you think those people are going to call you. He's labels terrorist refugee thug. The often use to get around the question. Why those settlements that happened five years ago. Do you think it is fair for governments to have to support them. Yes and the people who reappeared only to find someone else living in their family home they just ended up homeless again it but you have no idea how complicated this situation is. You're right and that's a good thing. We finally have a common struggle. Now think about that for once. All the people who've been begging and i mean literally begging for you to.

The rules and major league baseball say it has to be a nine inning game. But if you think about it for just a second if that's what the rule is as far as how long doubleheaders are isn't an official no hitter because it was a game that was played at least to the length that was scheduled on a no hitter. Also at which aid you should be doing it in terms of what does it take to become the best player you can possibly be to reach your goals in soccer and i want to start out with a little story about carli lloyd. Edwina who carli. Lloyd is okay. Good so a while back. Wow like nine years at this point. I think it was about a month or two after the twenty twelve olympics. The in which they won the gold. Of course i got up here. Carli lloyd speak and talk to her for a little bit because she came to a coach's meeting for our league which she had been a player when she was growing up and one of the stories she talked about was how she got up to national league national team level. I think she was maybe about twenty twenty one. How also it became a struggle and she went from a star where everything was easy for her to possibility of not making the team and it took her while to figure out how to handle that. And the reason being is carli. Lloyd with such a star a young age such a fee nov that she dominated the game without really having to work hard and never really was pushed to work hard to develop that work ethic in those habits of of putting in the time in the effort to become a really good player and she admitted that she wished she had had someone back. Then who had pushed her. And when i say. She admitted what she been the Out of like that at the time. Of course 'cause she probably will hate Dominating what are you talking about but looking back now. She wished she had been pushed at a younger age to help. Develop those those work those habit to network ethic that see from crawley now that allowed to play the game as long as she had it probably be a player she turns already than she was before she was thirty. "The and usually what I do is that I go back in with those three quarter inch PVC and I push him push him away from the leaves. I didn't do that. And the course of the ice has come down. And now I've got like big Frozen igloo things around Mike Meyer lemons. And the question is is well one. I don't know that they're gonna make it through this period. But so what do you think, is it? I I have like that. The reptile heaters, the ceramic reptile heaters or heat lamps that I usually put inside and combined with the Pushing the bags away from the leaves. They usually make it through. Whatever freeze we've got, you know untouched, But this is so much colder. The ceramic heaters. I mean, that was my first recommendation. I was about to do something as wimpy as a as a hanging utility Carli, which would be Up. You won't believe it that to an old incandescent bulbs you but Oh, you know what I would do? I would Used Would use to Ceramic eaters on different circuits of your house. So you don't trip the breaker? Yeah, and let me say that again to everyone out there. If you have space heaters on your greenhouse in your garage, be sure to check them regularly that they're not. Trip because sometimes just doing something else that uses a lot electricity like a blow dryer or something like that can trip a circuit and then you wake up and you're you're not a happy camper. Um But yeah, I had enough. So if anybody's running, make sure that whatever you're plugged into the ground fault because you're gonna issues Yes, And be sure to use outdoor utility chords, and you could do other tricks to using one inch PVC pipe. If you're worried about protecting it from animals, or wet or being wet, you could run it through that, but they'll go back to your problem with the lemons. I'm very surprised, Is it not? Melting off yet with even with the ceramic heater in the tar, No, No, I haven't turned on the heater. I've been so this'll was my plan. I've been busy. So all I did was I got the got the I got the born and now I'm trying to figure out what to do from here so yet, and actually, that's true. If I put the ceramic heaters in there, it'll melt some. And then I could push. I guess like I'm trying to get the bags away from the leaves, because that's not a good thing. Nature take its course the best that it can Don't force it or you're gonna you know You could literally You could break it, even if it's green inside just from the weight of the eyes, But Try that. Try that first and again use use. Evacuation 101

"There are lots of examples of when wildfire has affected the bay area but it's still something that you might think of as a rural problem. Something happens far away from urban centres with the latest batch of wildfires though we saw some people facing evacuation orders for the first time and it got me and a lot of you thinking about what the evacuation plan should look like in our own hopes. You reporter Carly seven here to answer some of the questions that you all sent our way Hey Carli hey and Libya has begun. Good. So first thing I want to know how will I even know if I actually have to evacuate? So one thing it's really important to know is you get your evacuation warning and then you get an evacuation order, they are two separate things. The warning is exactly what it sounds like. That's the warning that you might have to evacuate points the evacuation order that is go time. If you get the order you leave straightaway the warning is when you're going to have a little bit of time to prep, but the evacuation order still come within minutes or hours. How will you know to evacuate cameras say that they're going to use high low sirens so you should be able to hear if you live in a really remote area, they might send fire engines up to actually physically warn you and get you out. But the thing is do not wait for the knock on the door basically because it might not come calva say it's really important. Sign up for phone alerts, get phone lights when you're county and also the state and if someone in your family or friend doesn't actually have a smartphone, there are ways that you. Can get alerts that don't rely on you having a smartphone, they will come to email there will come to your home phone. But if you have the smartphone and a family member doesn't make sure that you are there conduit for really crucial potentially life saving information, and also if your phone is getting all of these alerts, which could save your life make sure your phone is up loud. Even don't go to bed with your phone on silent or do not disturb mode you do not want to be sleeping through an evacuation order. Okay. So let's say you know warning. Comes in order comes it's time to evacuate. What should I be thinking about actually leaving my house what do I need to make sure I'm taking with me okay. So you want a go bag basically one already to evacuate and you WanNa, keep it somewhere that you can access it instantly that's really important. Again, if this happened in the middle of the night, you would not want to be searching for you want it by the door we have a checklist on our site of all of those essentials that are actually quite a few but you know we're in. The middle of the pandemic. So you're going to need some things like face masks. It's recommended at least two per person and also hand sanitizer I'm don't wait until you under an evacuation warning or God forbid an evacuation order to make this kit. Have it all made in advance and needs to be carry -able right you do not want something that you have to have a vehicle to transport when you get that warning you already wants to have been thinking about your evacuation routes. What if one road was closed? Would you have a backup way to get out of? And so when that warning comes down, you prepare to get moving. You got your bag, put them in your car. If you have one make sure your car can get out, gather your pets, make sure your family know the plan and be ready to leave straightaway. Okay and then where do I go? That's a great question. A lot of people think evacuation you you go to a shelter right and that's one thing you can do their evacuation centers and shelters run by the counties and the Red Cross you can also ask. The friend or family member you know can I come and stay with you but he's like I say we're in a pandemic. You gotta ask some tough questions is anyone in your house feeling sick right now can we socially distance if I come to stay is anyone vulnerable living in your house he have to ask these questions regarding the corona virus. Now I know we've got some questions about people who have health or mobility issues for whom evacuating is just sort of slightly more daunting task what can they do to prepare? Number one I would say treat the evacuation warning like the evacuation order because you're gonNA need that extra time to potentially deal with the complexities of moving someone with medical or mobility issues. Also, you want to ensure that you emergency bag has any medicines or supplies or home use medical devices that you might need. Also keep medications list that includes prescriptions another really important information because you might need to hand that off to someone basically. Okay. A lot of advice though requires you to have a car which a lot of people in the bay area don't have especially if you're living. In San Francisco Oakland or one of these more urban areas how are those people are GonNa get out I'm so glad you lost have seen that question. So many times on twitter how did evacuate without a car? I want to repeat the importance of having an emergency bag that's lighten up to carry or transport without vehicle cal fire recommends that you you work with your neighbors or nearby friends and family. If you've got them and coordinate with them, you're basically trying to find a reliable shore, right right. But if you'll relying on a ride to get you out to evacuate they recommend that you leave your home sooner rather than later because what if the wildfire progress and you're right, it was not actually able to reach you to evacuate all the stuff you gotta think about. Well, carly as always you've given me a lot to think about. Thank you so much for stopping by. Thank you and good luck.

2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics officially postponed until 2021

"We learned Tuesday morning. The two thousand twenty Tokyo Summer Olympics officially been postponed due to the cove in nineteen outbreak. And that means a lot of changes for Olympic athletes including US women's soccer star and two time. Gold medalist Carli Lloyd. Twenty twenty would have been carly's fourth time in the Olympic Games and with turning thirty eight in July potentially her last but she's putting off retirement for a chance to take home a third gold medal and Carly as joining us via skype. To tell us more and Carl I I just WanNa get your reaction when you heard that. The Olympics were officially postponed to twenty twenty one. Yeah I mean some crazy times going on. I think obviously Olympics is is every four years and so many athletes Spend their lives training and ready for this moment. So this is a this is a big deal for it to be postponed. I throws a wrench in many people's training schedule. And obviously rescheduling of that. But I'm just glad that it's not entirely cancelled and we will be all able to compete in it But yet it's crazy but I think it's definitely the right thing to do and You know midst all this Unprecedented pandemic going on and carly. You are a two time world player of the year a two-time World Cup champion. The only player to school the winning goal in two Olympics and on top of that all. You've been playing in the national team for fifteen years. I said you were not going to retire so I'm just but I'm just curious. Is there any question in your mind? You running through any scenarios about not continuing on for a sixteenth year to compete in Tokyo. No it's you know it's crazy. It's been an amazing journey. I would've never predicted any of this You know I've had the time of my life Training competing playing with my teammates It's been it's been a wild ride and while we were all looking forward to competing this summer I'm kind of finding a little bit of a silver lining in it. You know it's more time to prepare more time to get myself fit stronger Become better on the fields. And I think it's GonNa give me a another year or two to really leave it all out on the field. I wasn't sure what I was. GonNa do But another year sounds sounds pretty good so just have to keep grinding away and now you know what a great way to look at it because now you do have an extra year to prepare What are you and teammates talking about doing? In this year to prepare for the games to be extra ready while there's going to have to be some scheduling changes. I know the schedule was in place. getting ready to to compete. We had a couple of sendoff games coming up. Obviously are April Games were cancelled So we don't really have anything on this the schedule until June We don't know what's going to happen with this pandemic. Hopefully things start to slow down and everybody goes back to normal But we all are competing in our. Nwf Leagues The course of the summer and into the fall. So we'll have that and yeah I mean we're just GonNa have to Kinda You know take take each day as it comes and figure it out. But it doesn't throw a huge wrench into our schedule and training. We just get more time and it's been a good mental recharge For Myself and I'm sure all my teammates

"Komo Alicia Burke host of that made all the difference a new podcast from Bank of America join me as I talked to Ken Burns about the moments that inspired his work as a documentary dementri filmmaker. You can find that made all the difference anywhere you get your podcasts. This is scientific civic. Americans sixty seconds science. I'm Christopher Dodd Yata Marine Heatwave in two thousand sixteen killed off a full third of Australia's Great Barrier Reef the largest coral reef system in the world and it's terrible watching your favorite ecosystems slowly. Di Carli can't go is a marine biologist at the University of Southern California Nia who's studied that coral bleaching event bleaching occurs when the waters around corals become too cold or too salty or too hot but mostly too hot and then the symbiotic algae that live inside corals which are photosynthetic food factories abandoned the coral which causes them to die because they're losing their nutritional source so they're essentially starving to death but coral can house multiple species of algae some more heat tolerant than others so sometimes in the face of stress the heartier algae proliferate delivery and that change offsets the damage caused by the exodus of the more sensitive species have processes called shuffling chemical in her colleagues studied shuffling in corals roles affected by the two thousand sixteen bleaching bet on the Great Barrier Reef and they found that adult corals can actually pass those reshuffled. Al Go residents along to their offspring in in their eggs pointing to a possible way. Successive generations of coral could adapt to warmer waters. If your mom can kind of crime you for the environment that you might be experiencing presumably would improve your fitness. The details are in the journal scientific reports so can this help corals beat back bleaching the pace of climate change and the frequency and intensity of the stress events is such that I don't think this is enough in face of so many threats. Even this trick may fail to provide relief for the reef. Thanks for listening for scientific American sixty seconds science. I'm Christopher Indonesia.

Andrew Luck stuns NFL world with sudden retirement

"I think andrew luck came came to a place of peace says you're grading system is on a curve that i'm not subscribing anymore so it was andrew luck that has to answer the answer to andrew luck ultimately even though we all get the witnesses. Can i respond you better word that we're not putting out their obligation shen obligation quarterback ability. Have you ever been as a franchise quarterback. I haven't either believe it or not. I have never been a franchise quarterback quarterback. I always dreamed of being one but never had that opportunity or maybe it wasn't good enough to get that opportunity. The bottom line is that organization committed and invested in him and to do this to a team going into the season. I believe he has an obligation to try to handle the situation in the best way possible civil even if he knows he's gonna retire why create a controversy going into the season when you can easily defer that conversation until after after the season by just saying it's best for this organization. Maybe i might even change my mind because i even admitted in my previous in the press conference. I've only thought about this for about ten days. That's what he said. It was a quote right so give give yourself another couple of months to think about it. Go to europe for a month. Get away. Let that foot healed up a little but maybe maybe you'll come back in a month or month and a half and say i actually wanna play. I wanna try to take this team that i hear what you're saying. Steve i think obligation is a really tough off work. I do think there's a responsibility when you take on except all that money and everything they give you as a franchise quarterback but but obligation you've chosen that word intensely that gives you no wiggle room and you're saying that i think he tried to do the right thing. I didn't say he's got an obligation to stay in going into reserve. He's got an obligation to try to do. What's in the best interest of the organization. At that point i think in andrew luck mine did that in his mind what what he thinks is in the best interest organization may differ from you and jim and frank reich and jacoby perset but he did what he he felt was in his best interest and i think part of he thinks in the team and i always will bring this up byron left which was a franchise quarterback who went to the season ticket holder order luncheon who was demand and then they say august thirty. I get up outta here. David your turn sometime. Well guess what you could go the other way as well. This is not to jesuit. Yes what the boss can always fired period

Soccer star Carli Lloyd received offers to kick in NFL preseason games

"It's been confirmed by Carli Lloyd of the U. S. women's national team that she is quote seriously considering on offer from the NFL now it's gotten old it's gotten a little fuzzy what can offer a we talking about is it an offer to simply come in and kick on Thursday night in the final preseason game for a team that's possible that's how I originally read at this time they were a little bit more Corey in terms of what the offer actually is and what Carly is thanking and the reason for this if you missed it about a week maybe a little bit more ago a viral video surfaced of Carly at eagles camp kicking a fifty five yard field goal and by the way kicking it threw up rights that are squeezed together even fitter than actual goal posts in the NFL fifty five yards no joke now granted no rush no snap no timing look like maybe her her run up to the ball was a little bit longer than what an actual kicker would do but you know fifty five yards that is not a joke and this thing did not just barely clear the cross bar it was with ease and it was perfectly centered and Carly's time with the U. S. women's national team probably doesn't have a whole lot of laughs because she's in her mid thirties courses a kicker what the hell you could just get started at that time now is this ever going to turn into Kali kicking in real NFL games I find that to be a little bit far fetched but who the heck knows and quite frankly who the heck cares this is fantastic it's fantastic it should happen don't get caught in the debate and the minutia of whether or not it would work it doesn't matter that's not the point the point is out all times and everyone in all leagues can do it better all times they should be thinking in twenty nineteen about entertaining the masses that's the thing you know we look at baseball games and we go and we need to restart the game no you don't need to shorten the game you need the game to be more entertaining there need to be more things going on that that that that keep the attention of the audience and even the NFL which is incredibly entertaining there's urgency already built in only sixteen games I'm number one television show across the board throughout every football season by far our basketball very entertaining but are there ways other ways that they could make it even more entertaining while the big the big sore thumb for the NFL is the pre season it is incredibly difficult to find reasons to watch a preseason game out one I've watched so far one one time did I actually sit down on the couch with a pillow behind my head make food and say let's get it on I'm watching this happened one time and in fact is the only time I can remember it happening in the last I don't know how many years and it was last Saturday because Jimmy Garamba fear was was running through the streets of San Francisco and seemingly beyond and so we had to see it he was gonna play all high off he gets some continuity he could make a mistake or two and have time to to button it up he did all of those things and I was there for and then half time came and I wasn't there for it anymore and do you know how much I will watch of Thursday night narodna nothing I promise absolutely nothing I will I watch all that game on Thursday night because the relevant it's relevent the stars won't be there it's just not watchable however if Carli Lloyd were kicking for one of those teams I watched the whole thing I'll I would watch the whole thing and I would be rooting every time offer every drive just all of the twenty five yard line so why not who gets hurt how many teams already know who their kicker is gosh I hope the forty Niners of the team making the offer Robbie gold your quarterback don't put him out there on Thursday why who knows somebody could roll into his leg get Carli Lloyd M. and letter kick and who knows what would happen next but when you want to see it are so this is taking the next step there is serious consideration going on and and who knows where this is going to go on Thursday or quite frankly beyond it would be

US women's soccer team is dominant: How long can it last?

"Lovell the U. S. women's soccer team continues its World Cup celebration but how long can the Americans dominates here's this weekend's Jennifer because shankha the US women's soccer team remains the world's best about the world is catching up how much longer can the U. S. team keep going here to answer that question Joshua Robinson of the Wall Street journal Joshua who are the veterans on this team entering that you cannot miss a discernment was making Latino but she's already thirty four years old you also looking at someone like Carli Lloyd I know she only came off the bench in most games but she's thirty six million icon of fifteen and that the black people like Becky Celeborn also thirty four even Alex Morgan who with the baby faced assassin of this team for so long just played at her third World Cup and she's already thirty so for a lot of the women on this team retirement is beginning to appear on the horizon and you begin to wonder is there another World Cup in them and you know even a year where the Tokyo Olympics and some of the more wonder if they can last that long have there been any hints from any of them about what they might plan to do I think probably Lloyd above all would be the one who's beginning to really think about it at thirty six and not necessarily a key member of the chip coach Joe Loews's plans it it's it could be pretty tempting to to hang it up hang up for groups when she's at absolutely the pinnacle of the game the ticket the other temping thing however is that because of the way the women's international soccer cycle works we're in a period where the World Cup is just a year away from the next Olympics after the Olympics the next World Cup will be three years away so hang on for just twelve more months extremely appealing if you think I could get in this time for Tokyo we're speaking with Josh Robinson of the Wall Street journal talk about the future of Jill Ellis where does he stand on her contract and is she in good standing as the U. S. coach she criticized a lot of this tournament for some of the tactical choices and some of the decision she's made in the way she's managed individual game but you really cannot argue with the results she's a worse she's the only coach in women's soccer history to win two world cups even no one is done that on the men's side even since the nineteen thirties she's also and she deserves a lot of credit for this manage to effectively Rangel beat the egos and personalities on that team and we go there a lot of personalities in that in that locker room but she said she's not here police that and she's let them speak freely and continue to deliver results so her contract is up this summer and there's an option that could be triggered by U. S. soccer or her for another year and that would take her to the Olympics she's been very corny about her future so far has and says she has made a decision it's gonna be interesting to see whether she decides again to go out on a high or roll the dice again in Tokyo and see if she can hold off the advance of the rest of the world one more time Josh was there anything that goes on between now and the Olympics next summer well the first order of business is the US woman returned home is this a three toward they're gonna play I think about half a dozen games between August and October all over the country where they invite some of the best teams in the world to the United States and really they even the adulation of of American fans that'll be the first thing and then they'll resume their normal calendar and start to get ready for the Olympics this weekend's Jennifer because Shinko with Wall Street journal reporter Joshua
