"What do for football it for for let's bring in another speaks to you grad unlike you Alfred Williams unlike you Chris Fowler is a big deal ESPN college football and that guy and I I former C. U. grad it always a good guest to have on Chris we appreciate you joining us on KO in Denver how are you your job again I'm doing great first of all my vote goes to tequila and mescal over fears I wouldn't my consumption would be affected by a virus or other beverages anyway but first all hello everyone out there okay where that that station it was an important part of my youth when I first moved to Colorado in seventy seven throughout the whole process of great be back on the airwaves with you guys so we we we've been talking a lot about obviously what's going on at the university of Colorado the the Mel Tucker thing was it was a tough pill for us to swallow here I mean literally and and you could probably understand this better than most Chris we had him on the air like four hours before with him telling us how committed he was to the city to the team to his players to the recruits to four hours later him announcing that that he was leaving but now Carl derail is N. as the head coach of the C. U. box and as a former buff man yourself what's your take well I was a I'm a little bit involved in some of the process that involved but I was pretty the process that was going on and all of a sudden the coaching search got a little confusing yellow drawn out I don't know if you call a little messy and next thing you know they they they opened it and you know a day later you know Carl rose the name the numbers I don't know Carl well to be honest with you I know he's had a couple since their I did not cover the UCLA teams very closely when he was with the Bruins like madam of course but I didn't think of him as a real box route guy that much so I don't know I for me it came out left field I I I'm not negative on it at all I want to wait C. but I'm also not gonna seen tremendous enthusiasm I'm I'm I believe in authenticity of this story a couple of videos of her on Instagram that kind of works who happens I don't usually speak as an alarm because of my job I think it's more appropriate for me to step back and be an analyst but when it comes to see you sometimes they will step out of character and in this case anyone suckers story were melted in Derry for all the reasons you said I did post about that and I talked a couple times about the search so and in that post I I didn't really know what doing hand springs but I also was a ring in my hand saying terrible I want to wait you want to give me a chance I think keeping Severini understaffed was crucial one man I've known each other for a long time to use the program is an incredibly valuable assets and for me that was critical so I I had back and forth with him before and after the answer was made a little bit nervous about what what is where his heart lies but you know I listen I mean I'm going to give me a chance I've seen a lot of Colorado coach is coming now is you as you know big house so we'll see I'm not negative but I'm also guardedly optimistic I would say I would say that that would be about accurate to a lot of guys that I talk to about card real that don't know him but I want to ask you about this one topic that I have been grounding on the last couple of weeks may be the last yes as Mel Tucker walked away what's his arms race in college football and how do we get back to jazz coach is coaching at a at a base pay that is appropriate we're we're not looking at that the paper the head coaches that are four and five times greater than that of the president of the university of feels like is inverted in and it feels like there's no end to it since there's no there's no collective cap on coaches and what they can make or for that matter A. D. is and what they can make what what what's your take on that a lot of people are super bothered by that I don't know it's a tie the coaches played at the school presidents pay but I I do think that you're trying to turn back the clock to an era that is long gone I'm telling you there's no reversing the arms race you can control it to some degree you can regulate it correct but actual crisis I I suppose you might really see it happen I'm just she called her husband at the patient in the pac twelve where the financial deck is stacked against the Boston all the other school not least because the disparity in cash you guys know between SEC the big ten and the pac twelve in their network deals the money they make from boxing ESPN it's huge user adding that up over ten year period how the hell can see you spend with Michigan state or anybody else in those two we can't we can't so you have to find a way to to be able to put together packages to keep the coaches to attract coaches it's a challenge donors have to get involved but I mean the the simple fact is that Colorado is fighting an uphill battle I don't think there's any end in sight the arms race I I do think that there's still any any leap tiny group of schools that are spending in a way that others honest it is provided during the club we're never going to have the resources I don't think it or disposal of Ohio state Michigan and Penn state in their own division I was gonna be forty one division but by and large the big ten schools and the SEC schools top to bottom have the ability to outspend anybody in the pac twelve especially Colorado did you know you do you talk about the TV packages you talk about the the difference in the monies that are available for those you know the big ten and SEC for that matter the big twelve especially the university of Texas when you consider the timing of these games that are played for the teams are and but that that are in the pac twelve it feels like it it feels like the whole conference is second bill because the games that are prime time games come on so late at night in those that are on the east coast never really get a chance even see these teams so if you want to increase the package don't you have to start making demands about when your games is shown in how do you do that if you are Colorado or the pac twelve stop a minute there's a simple fact that the passion for the sport is dispersed more in the pac twelve it is most concentrated maybe doesn't runs deep there's not the identification from the alarms and the fan bases are in any areas because I think that by and large folks in the in the Paxil region are are transient and did much like people in Colorado it is not generations work with the school curriculum but different I think you got to be flexible I don't know about putting games on in the morning which is one of the things the Paco's proposing but what's worse having a head to head against other conferences were having a late night on the east coast where at least they're available I love pac twelve after dark man I'm always up watching thank you it's a good value the conference is strong its balance the games are close by and by and large exciting I don't think the only way to judge a conference is whether or not there's two or three playoff relevant teams late October I mean certainly that's what the pac twelve needs to be considered national you gotta have in Oregon or Washington maybe as he gets back into it somebody else who's in the playoff hunt as Oregon was in Utah were right down to it the and every year it packs of this cannibalizing themselves more than most conferences but exposure is going to be difficult I don't think it's necessarily essential to be seen in the east coast of the TV markets all that much you just gotta be gotta get **** in seats and you got to have people care about their own schools a lot more than they do Randall out Chris did you ever see a scenario where conferences come together and and merge for the betterment of all the universities and the betterment of a higher price TV deal and the opportunity to be able to compete more because at the end of the day that money that is being spent also makes you a much more in a in a better competitive situation because you are able to you know dangle that carrot to get these these high priced coaches that you know these recruits want to play for well we've never seen the disparity in cash right now but it's because of the big ten network SEC network you mentioned Texas you're right there's sort of an out liar in the big twelve big twelve is not fiscally on the same footing as other two leagues ACC's got their own network now which is just coming coming online and obviously basketball is very strong pac twelve is gonna have to do to find creative ways and I I don't think that there's any way to turn back the clock I I don't think there's a way to to match those other schools in TV dollars so I I'm not saying the poor gases that Rosie ever I really don't think there is like you can combine conferences you can say whether Colorado be better off you know breaking away again and finding a new home I I love the fact that she used the pac twelve I love the conference really talking about football with obviously in terms of total sports strength the pac twelve is awesome seven a bounce back year basketball but obviously football is the main money maker and that's what you know is what most people judge the conference bys football strength but I think there's some serious serious challenges both for see you in for the conference Chris merry we really enjoy what you do now calling games now do you like this better or do you like the studio work better because I just remembered so many great years that you were involved on my Saturday morning I want Colorado to play in the daytime all the time against major opponents because the weather is fantastic in the pac twelve during the daytime is the FCC that's complaining it's it's the ACC that's complaining in the pac twelve days to play those games in the daytime but I want to ask you do you remember do you miss your your hosting responsibilities or do you just love now that your call in the big games well I love what I'm doing now I mean that's what I always wanted to do documenting a live event that's like that fantasy premier member I'm ten years old that's when I figured out this I want to do and be able to do.

"Watch Chad. We're going to go off the rails here in a minute with some of our crazy headlines of the day but I wanNA remind you first of all first of all Ashford University I think. Don't you think you should enroll there? Nope no I think they should give me an honorary master's degree just because it's the cusp. Party foul Steve. Put that on their money you know on array. They did it for football players and all kinds of people. I see get honorary degree. I don't think he can do anything with it. But it looks cool. They really don't do that for football players. Who Do they do for now? What are you talking about every football now I really know is accredited institutions of higher learning? Do not give them honorary degrees. Now you might get honorary doctorate to that well but typically yeah. I don't know if that Ashford does it. They're pretty legit group of people and I don't think they're going to give you a degree as candy said during the break a in shenanigans. They might you never know peak leading. Bs Shenanigans following a BS. I think an honorary bs. Yeah I think you've already got it. Maybe soon don't you did to me over the weekend? Now let me tell you what he did. He'll interrupt. Took one season oriented up to me what he did was he go. Eat his meals with his buddies. 'cause everywhere we win he had buddies in town like you know friends and I appreciate because they're my friends too but they he's known them like thirty forty years right back when he was getting his mugshots. They're like let's go eat. And let's go to blah. I had drive through food for every single meal over. Four days. Steve I text you and you know response. I'm in bed so I'd get up and go eat what happened. That's he's eating solid meals and then but see because he's so narcissistic and self send. He like I'm hungry and he's like well already eight. I asked longer but took Waterberg and I'm like I find your life. I know I dropped through for every new. WanNa know how many hamburgers how many number three every no every frigging meal except for the one after the deal in tombaugh where we had the TACO? Whatever where where was that? You had crawfish this weekend to well. That's because we the venue and I sat down with you and just you. Nobody else about the company wasn't vow. Well it was Valentine's Day but I don't need. It's not about the sharing of the moment together. I won't just want like last night. Kansas last night at filing went to dinner after we got home or night four last. I'm sorry got home from travelling and ordered a salad salad was so good. I ordered another salad. Could you bring me something else? Green please just something else. We'll see okay like the other morning. We were in Corpus in Carl Rise. My Buddy said hey. Let's go get breakfast. I text you know response. We went and had breakfast. And I'm like I love Carl but Carl can talk. No kidding out talk you. Gnarled and Love UCAR Handy Dude. You needed rest now. He came he came out and helped out at the shows and Did a little bit. He ran the meet and greet while I was some merchant that kind of I love Carl appreciate it. Yeah you know you know what? Jewels are jewel. She's a singer. No rock seem the J. U. L. That you smoke. That's a smoking. Yeah I know what it was. I read the headline. Y'All funny because I was thinking why would jewelry to add on On Your nickelodeon because you'll singer. Joe Bought ads on cartoon network nickelodeon target kids. There's a lawsuit out about that. Of course they night but they wanted to go out and find the hip and cool people so obviously that Democrat demographics going to be the young people who are fashionable in urban you know with the vibrant life will apparently this the folks that are out there watching the cartoon network like Johnny Bravo or as I like to call it the Graham Allen. Show is that this LLC. I was GonNa say that car cartoon network at not. Tom Shows some that lost in space and Johnny Bravo and those they have some subnormal adult humor in their targeting. The dolts they're not necessarily targeting. The kids I see. I don't agree with you. Because here's what's happening over there targeting. I can't say but I I didn't know what a jewel was. But I had one of my sons talked about coming home from middle school and when he was in sixth grade and he was like yeah. These kids are getting their smoking. Jewels in a in a in the bathrooms right. And I'm like what's a Jew like my Miss Nelson what they're smoking. Gills. What you talk about. What's this and I still really didn't know exactly what it was but anyway so apparently it's kind of like what a e cigarette thing but it's got something else Senate it's flavored nicotine. Okay so it tastes like strawberries and raspberries. GotTa tell you that targets younger generation targets kids. I WANNA say it was. Trump says something about out lawn flavored stuff and I might be misquoting. I read somewhere about them outlaw in the flavors stuff and they probably should now look. I don't agree with government intrusion at all so if a person wants to make a product and sell it. I don't think the government should have the ability to go in and regulate that make it illegal. I don't believe in government regulations and a lot of things like that in terms of how it impacts your personal life asthma adult. Now when you're talking about kids and stuff like that. Yeah you be dead ass. But I don't want the government beating my kids. I WanNa beat their ass. I can remind ability. Beat that ASS. I can remember you know sneak in and smoking a cigarette and had 'em I got caught but anyway I had to go tell my dad. Oh what happened? It wasn't pretty. What happened will take a Mug shot of you? Beat My. He'd probably be more mass but anyway did that. Same thing with like Copenhagen you know the Chew I was a kid I was like nine or ten years old and he let me know that it was. You know. it's Banning Smoking in the boys room thing or smoking out behind the school bell the Copenhagen or whatever and I you know a lot of friends got busted and stuff like that. Thanks for the time we were about sixteen. You know that was the deal you go out on the weekends or your buddy and and you go pack cigarettes you goodbye. Pack of cigarettes back then no problem and you go smoke and then try to get it off your clothes and your breath for you got you like what's funny is nowadays you get around people that have been drinking and you smell it on him. I mean you can't have that you can't hide that. I can remember coming home thinking I was so sly. Come home about twelve thirty one o'clock in the morning. Whatever curfew was my mom's always waiting up. You know she wants. So how is unite the c? I could carry it off. You know I drink not still but I wasn't getting like crazy crazy but you know. My mom played at all smooth like okay. All right. Yeah she lives. On time she'd get onto is when they'd wake me up for Church on Sunday mornings and you've been sleeping in that bedroom with the door. Shut all night long so she walked in there and it smelled like a brewery. You GonNa turn 'em Beers for some mom for some reason on those mornings. You had to leave for church extra early that morning so your mom would come wake you up because my did the same thing she. She said she always knew. When I've been out drinking because I would come in the house at night and go straight to my room. I HANG OUT WITH MY MOM. I was buzzing. Pretty good talk about. Would you wanNA talk about long? How far I could go. You know who? I'd like to have some vodka with Vladimir Putin he's rushing. Yeah you want to collude with him just to have some vodka. Yeah he scares me though scares me if you didn't see our monologue The other day when we talked about Vladimir Putin and what a true dictatorship looks like when we posed the question is trump a dictator you morons. "Noticed Carlson. Go Wayne stern at Carl's wife. Sinister. Sweet Carl said musing allowable leaning back in front of an empty plate. But she's mine leaves such thoughts and drink your wine night. You will not have her Guedes face lit up with shame. Oh, no. No, no. It wasn't like that. But she was beautiful, of course. But he wasn't thinking Carl slapped on the back. Of course, he wasn't. And of course, he wasn't. He turned to the door and bellowed music now, a younger girl, probably around seventeen or eighteen arrived in the room and bowed to Carl and the nights. She looked a lot like Carl's wife, but younger she began plucking harp. And singing a song about the glory of king Arthur's court and the five dinner attendees, listen, dawn, K was the first one. Mr. ninety Naf, and then Baldwin it might have been the meal or the wine or the music, but it was time for bed in Carl stood. He helped booth men to their feet and love the visitors down the long corridor came Baldwin walked straight into their small simple rooms, thank you about nothing. But collapsing on the soft beds going, however, was weary. This house was stranger than ever. And this Carl he was monstrous as he walked deeper into the castle. Go Wayne wondered, what horrors this night held wait. This is my room going asked studying the massive golden crested, suite with tapestries and rape before the bed was a couch draped with a gold cloth. Carl laughed as he pushed go Wayne in. No, this was Carl's room the door closed behind him going looked at Carl nervously. What was going on Karl didn't look back but instead stood smiling? He nodded toward the bed to his wife lane. There waiting going reiterated. Seriously, what was going on to Squires came from a hidden side room and wordlessly unday goings armor when it was off. They also took off his clothes standing there. And whatever the medieval equivalent of underwear was he asked Carl for third time. What was going on Karl said simply that he wanted to go in and take his wife into his arms and kiss her now while he watched going looked at Karl who was quite serious. He looked at MRs Carl who with a nod was beckoning him to bed g- Wayne had expected. A medieval house of horrors, not a couple who is into you know, whatever this was he pretty much expected. He might have to fight Carl before the night was through anyway. So we might as well spend some time in the arms of beautiful woman before he had to do. So with a nod Gohain bow before Carl saying that his bidding would be done have no fear. Go Wayne dropped the rest of his clothes and. Jumped into bed. We usually don't get graphic with these sorts of scenes, and this is no exception. But the story informs us that go Wayne and MRs Carl kissed for a long time when things were about to get well more intimate Carl stood from the gold clothe couch making a timeout tea with his hands. All right. All right. Good game guys Carl's wife immediately rap sheets around her body and sat up in bed with her husband going sat up to wait. What they were just about to. Yup. Carl said Gwen looked at MRs Carl who does not a plainly, and they weren't going to. Nope. Carl said going looked at both of them. Okay. So what should he do? Now, Carl rose and immediately went all Gandalf, filling the room with his back to the fire. So we seem to glow like a demon. What should go Wayne do? Now, go Wayne should die. But then Carl burst out laughing. That just getting they Honey you ready..

"Jim Cavanaugh the Taylor family. You know, I think they're learning to like soccer. But this is about a love of Saint Louis. Yeah. This is about trying to interconnect the stadium to their other projects and understanding that Saint Louis needs to win. This is about trying to make Saint Louis a better place. I think if you put them on stage with us right now and said, are you guys huge soccer fans? I mean, tell me about Palay and tell me about a Carl rose at the steamers they'd. Yeah. Great. You know, I don't I don't think they would know, you know, the inner workings of MLS yet. I think they're learning about it. I think they're becoming more familiar with it. I think they're coming becoming fans of it. I think though, what what's very important is that this is becoming more and more like it may happen. And the reason I'm saying that is that MLS is looking at local ownership. So the first time through the vote goes down they were asking for the public vote. It got shot down. It was sixty million in public financing potentially with that. That's no longer and there's no vote with this. And so they chipped in more money. It's going to go on a blighted portion of the land, which is about a little bit west of Union Station. It's twenty five thirty acres. And so obviously government officials and city officials need to get together with this ownership group and make this happen. It needs to happen. We need a win the Rams leaving and Ferguson and the various things that we have going on in this town. And I wrote about it today when I travel, and I travel a lot. I mean, it's a lot of negative things that are being said about Saint Louis, and yes, I think there's got to be given take and I have questions about still what's going on with this. But they're trying to answer these very quickly. Jim mentioned in the interview that I did it's about a ninety day window. They want to get this thing rolling. So it's very important that they need to get out there. And I think inform the public. Explain where they're at where the tax money's going coming from where it goes in terms of the stadium the land how it all works out. And then at that point, you know, I think MLS says my God, we're in a hotbed for soccer. It's been here forever. We have great support in deep pockets with these people and really it's just those families. This is slam dunk. It's a no brainer. So I think as we go forward it's going to make more and more sense as we as we progress and go down this road. And I'd love to see it happen. Dan. Dan. And I were very passionate as a number of people certainly were about the Rams situation a couple of years ago and all that led up to it. And I think we're both privy to information that ideally will be coming out when there is the discovery process that I do believe is going to go on with STAN Kroenke at Kevin demo off. I truly believe that. That's not just like, I hope that is I'm being told and we both when we get together just BSN over lunch. Get fired up about it. Absolutely. Need a beverage. Absolutely here you go. And so with regard to the Rams and that whole process and you getting fired up. I know why I get fired up. I get fired up. What what gets you going because it story right with you wrote about it today about your son. He was emotional about it, and it didn't need to happen. You know, it didn't need to happen. And I think I speak for many people. They probably have kids that are here or have kids. I know day peacock, well, and and. He worked his tail off free of charge for over a year. He does a lot of philanthropic things in this town and worked his tail off sunup sundown to try to make this happen. There was a stadium. There got it through the board of aldermen. It was there for the taking publicly financed portion of it ready to go. And and STAN Kroenke clearly did not want to be here. And the way that they went about it was just so disingenuous it was awful..

"For Bloomberg here with us in our Bloomberg interactive brokers studio. All right, this Harris, what's happening out there. It feels like a quote unquote, normal day. Banyans up stocks are higher. She says. Yes night was looking around. I still don't know a caption. I did we'll get there. Anyway. Go ahead. Well, it's you know, we have the refunding tomorrow. The expectation is the increases are going to look very similar to what we saw the last refunding announcement. So market sorta ready for that what they're also waiting to hear from his maybe if there's any sort of thought to treasuries rea- allocation strategy in terms of issuance as it relates to the feds portfolio unwind. But otherwise, it's pretty quiet. I think again, the interesting things came in the front end of the market. Was her Brahma. What's this morning on Twitter? Head flag that Bill which is an ETF for one to three month treasury bills sight infra-red five hundred eighty two million yesterday, the most since two thousand eleven and then when you think about this in the congress, the ticker, it's just it's just the I L. But when do you think about this in the context of what we've seen with the auctions just even the three-month auction yesterday with those direct bidders being the highest since two thousand sixteen and actually today in the four week Bill auction those directs were I think about thirteen and a half fourteen percent of the auction. And that's the most since February. So that's continuing sort of drive. This narrative that think on one side of this you have equity investors who are a little nervous about the market conditions right now and are seeing like, okay, there's a safe haven. Now, there is an actual safe haven in short term debt with treasury yields higher than two percent. And the other side you have the shift from fixed income. Investors, and the subset of treasury buyers were saying, well, wait a minute. Like, I don't want long to rain right now. I want to move shorter, and it is viable for me to move shorter. So I think that's probably one of the more interesting things were saying let's bring in Carl Riccadonna our chief economist Bloomberg economics. We got some data today. Consumer confidence hitting an eighteen year. High people feeling pretty good. They've got jobs, and they're looking feeling good about wages and so on and then had home prices in twenty US cities Carl rise at the slowest pace since two thousand sixteen. I don't know. What is it? All me. Yeah. Well. Is consistent with a maturing cycle. And so we see, you know, often, you know, I'm careful not to say late cycle. But as a cycle matures, you tend to get this big overshoot of consumers assessment of present conditions relative to the future. So we see that gap widening that doesn't mean we're at the end of the cycle. But it does tell you that things are stretching and one thing that stretches toward the end of the cycle is housing affordability. Dampening home price appreciation terminal. We have seen that trend unfolding for this year. And I suspect that's going to mean how we get low single digit returns in the housing market in two thousand nineteen. So that that that trend is starting to Peter out for the cycle. Again, doesn't mean the cycles over it just means we're shifting gears as things mature and reminds you that that somewhere there is a clock ticking. He was very careful to say mature part cycle and not late cycle that says if he chooses his words, very carefully. Critical to my call because so many folks are looking at the number of quarters to last recession, and it's very easy easy to say. Well, the economy's long in the tooth for the next recession can't be far away. But we have to be a lot more sophisticated than using a stopwatch when we think about economic cycles, and we have to look at underlying fundamentals and the corporate profits trend is encouraging. There's not a lot of inflation in the economy at the moment, there's not a lot of labor cost pressures at the moment. And if we look at the composition of growth, it's a consumer driven economy. Those are all things that happen in the early stages or the early to mid stages of a cycle. It's never too early to start talking about jobs day. It's Friday drumbeat on your desk. Drumbeat three, and we have a lot of hurricanes. Days. Three days..

"He promised Agreed agreed thank you for the call Talk. Of shutting down the government Has taken on a, new level of interest in power Because of Ted Cruz The last real government shutdown was when Newt Gingrich engineered it During the Clinton presidency And it was perceived at the time Gingrich who had, a far. Reduced level of power vis-a-vis Bill Clinton it was perceived that Gingrich his move in shutting down the government by defunding it effectively That that was a misstep that he overplayed his hand I don't think that's necessarily true but what did happen is that it gave Bill Clinton, an opportunity to do what he does best to campaign It gave him an opportunity to to establish to develop a narrative And the narrative was Gingrich shutting down the government means that, children won't be fan These parents won't be able to feed their children. We ended up the year of two thousand sixteen with four numbers. We're still looking to expand where Africa. In Asia, particularly, but he's a very exciting change from having about twenty people room to where you have an annual meeting this year, but one hundred people in the room all excited about further developing values, face, banking story.
