"8 four four two O four rich is the number to now here on the show. Let's take some phone calls Orlando's been waiting forever in San Antonio. What's up Orlando? What's going on rich? How are you doing? I'm great. What's on your mind? I'm here for you, rich. I'm a coach fan, but look, I love your enthusiasm for your jet. Okay. You don't need sauce at number four. Now, you all can not get to the quarterback at all. You start two at once, you take Josh Allen once, all of that year. You got to max 5 times, but you only set Carson Wentz one time. The guy got to him 7 times in two games. Jordan Davis, Jermaine Johnson, Nicole Biden, players that you all need on your team. Yeah, but not fourth overall, though. But I understand. I'm just saying, I'm just saying, in general, with the fourth or tenth pick, I'm just saying there's more the jet need than stalls. Great fillet doesn't need salt. You know? You can't have that DJ. You know, you can't have sauce. With no front line. I hear you. And thank you for the call. In terms of that, Carl Lawson hopefully is going to come back healthy. They got Vinny curry, who had a freak reason why he couldn't play last year. And what helps get a pass rush home is looking downfield and seeing nobody open. That helps. And I like this kids make up big time and I can not wait to talk to him tomorrow morning and I hope I just don't creep him out. Rich, I hate when I go to the goal and interviewing somebody. It's a pretty solid goal. When I go to a steakhouse and they tell me I can't have a one sauce. I mean, give me the sauce. I don't care how good the steak is. A one. Just some sauce. I'm not taking him to any state, huh? I like a one. Mike, you can't go into a steakhouse and ask for a one. Are you kidding me? Imagine going in a little bit. I wasn't saying you want the 8 one. Look, if I want to be out of here, it's like tapatio. I mean, it's great, but it's like, you don't put tapatio on it. You can do it. Like I just took Patrick Fabian, you do whatever you want, all right? If you're paying 250 bucks for a Peter Luger steak, you put one so nice Patrick Fabian. He's saying maybe you can root for more than two teams and he had no idea what he just strolled into in this place. And then he hears from TJ as somebody from his home state is home area. He feels a connection with TJ. Accepts TJ's acceptance of him for rooting more than more than just one sports team. And then we showed him all the sports teams. He root for and he thought like this guy is a little bit weird. You can see that kind of goal over him. And when I pointed it out, he was too nice to say, yeah,.

"I'm excited for the future. Again, I go back to Elijah Moore, paired with Amari Cooper, sounds like a really fun dynamic duo. I would love to see that. Now, the jets second leading receiver was their go back to that quote. Big free agent signing Corey Davis. He only played in 9 games. He caught 34 passes for 492 yards and four touchdowns. He was the jets second leading receiver, but that's not saying much. And I was hoping you'd make a bigger impact coming from Tennessee. He was trying to kind of resurrect his career coming over from Tennessee last year and. It's fine. I wish we played a more games. I wish he had better numbers, but I don't know. It wasn't encouraging, but we'll see how things work out in the future. Now the jets leading Russia is a really, really positive story. Rookie fourth round pick running back Michael Carter. I love this guy. Great pick, great value. I would rather have him than doing what the cowboys are doing and be massively overpaying a running back like Ezekiel Elliott. I am all for getting a rookie fourth round pick, making restarting running back. He made an impact immediately. Bright future there and again, tremendous value when it comes to the contract. Now, I'm also excited about the jets defensive line next year. They have defensive end Carl Lawson returning from he ruptures Achilles before the year even started. So he never really got the season going. He never played. He's coming back for 2022. I'm excited for that next year. Defensive tackle, Quinton Williams. I mean, it's an understatement they call this guy a study he's fantastic. He's a franchise staple. One of the hallmarks of your football team. And then also defensive end John Franklin Myers made a name for himself and got a big contract extension in October. He signed a four year $55 million deal little north of $30 million fully guaranteed. Carl Lawson will be 27 this fall. Quinn and Williams just turned 24 in December. John Franklin Myers was 25. It's a young, encouraging group on the defensive line for the New York Jets. And I walk away, I'm like, eh, that's positive. And even though the jets literally and I mean literally had the worst defense in the NFL dead last 32 out of 32, somehow I actually walk away feeling kind of optimistic because they've got a defensive line I like. CJ Moseley is a monster at linebacker led the team in tackles, they've got an encouraging is maybe a very generous word, young secondary with new young players who are starting and making somewhat of an impact. I also, on the offensive line, they got Elijah bear Tucker at guard, Makai Becton, George fan. There are some hope on the offensive line as well. They're working on it. It's getting better. And last year was certainly a rebuilding year.

"They allowed pressure on thirty three percent of drawbacks which ranked twenty eighth in week. One and that was against the jets de that was bottom ten in pressure rate a year ago and didn't have one of its best defensive lineman in carl lawson so ask some potential red flags there in this match against a strong saints defensive front but despite that i do think that the rushing prop on christian mccaffrey is too low sitting at sixty six and a half rushing yards for him coming off an injury plagued season a year ago he was back to full time status. He played greater than than eighty percent of the snaps in week. One handled twenty-one carries so for a bell cow volume running back here. I think sixty six and a half is too low despite it being a little more difficult of matchups. I'll take the over there all right. So let's head to the second game on the slate here the bengals and the bears of course a biggles coming off a big win. That eliminated me from survivor. That was the one pretty bad thing that happened to me this week. All three entries in the circus survivor are toast for me. So it was a fun week while it lasted. No actually it wasn't it was a very painful week for me Yeah so the bears. Of course the bears out. And i don't think we have any. I don't have anything to pull from that game. We played out pretty much like we thought it was going to play out. It was justin fields. Everyone keeps beating the drum for him but this is a horrific offensive line. So it's hard for me. It's hard for me to kind of play. Matt nagy here for not playing justin fields until week four. Which by the way he he all but said he was gonna play justin fields and week. Four in that lions game which is a super soft landing spot for this team. So i it's hard for me to say otherwise. Joe borough steps in after the injury looks pretty much like joe did last year before he got hurt him and justin herbert as rookies being able to step in and just look like they've been there done that for a long time. I think we're going to really look back on in a few years and say that is something you just do not see very often the bengals offense. I think is going to be one of those back door..

"I was kind of surprised. I want to close the show. Now spend a few minutes on the jets. I was very surprised that Coach in new head coach. Robert salah really. Didn't have zac wilson. You know he had a a a nice run that first game where they beat the giants he. He played a couple of series six for nine sixty three yards Didn't really take too many chances. Had a you know just a really responsible. Couple of drives that he was out there. Not much offense going on in that game anyways just beat the giants twelve seven but then where you really started to see some flashes that got people excited and got people talking was when they played the packers and even though i think that packers game even though the wind look good on paper the packers things really going to have a sour taste to me for the rest of the season and if not longer than that because they had joint practices prior to that preseason game with the the green bay packers and there was a lot of experience between rogers. And and zach wilson. Which i'm sure was mutually beneficial but the thing that really will always stick out to me. Is that carl lawson who is a twenty six year old defensive end formerly of the cincinnati. Bengals the jets went out and signed him to a big free agent contract. This offseason three years forty five million and he was having a hell of a camp. He was looking like one of the more standout players in the roster. Like this was a guy that you can count on. You can have a ten plus season from a you know especially with the way that roberts sola likes to play that he was going to really help the corners and You know especially these young undeveloped corners. The jets have having this pass rusher for the first time in probably over a decade was really really going to help this team and improve this defense. And of course he goes out there and ruptured his achilles tendon. His achilles tendon in one of these. You know these joint practices with another team. I don't get it. 'cause i 'cause you know when you're pressing against your team it's practice the you know the old alan iverson leg. Come on this is practice. man is practice. We're talking about but when you're practicing against the other team gets the juices flowing it gets you know you feel more competitive. It's getting you wanna to prove some that another team. And you know carl lawson I'm sure that played some kind of role in it. Probably not everything. It's brian not the sole reason why he got injured but unfortunately he did erupted his achilles tendon. he's for the entire season and what the jets did today was addressed. That need they've had for at least the last week since he got hurt and acquired also defensive end obviously they needed him to play the same position shack walson so they're not related but shack lesson a former high draft pick former buffalo bill of you know pretty good pass rusher who had a good salary. He had a good contract because he was making good good money for his production. Who's playing really well. For couple of years at a at a high level he was. What the texans. They already paid most of his salary. So the jets this year. Getting him for i think about under a million. I think it's around eight hundred sixty thousand. The jets ended up paying him this year. And he's an the houston. Texans have already paid him his seven most of his seven million dollar salary. So that's really a good move a shrewd move. The jets you picked up a player that could be a potential difference maker on on the envy needed..

"Some wrestling today. Keith summer slam this weekend fired up. No yeah for sure. I thought you were going to continue to read something. No i i don't i don't have no read other than to say that summer slam is this week i used to go. I don't know if it was called wrestlemainia. Yeah yeah yeah yeah. Got all that going to. Yeah it was fun. Well we've got a time. Wwe champion joining us right now and the goodyear hotline that is drew mcintyre ju-. Good morning. how are you on fantastic. Thank you it's great to have you. You know when you travel around as athletes always do. There's certain markets in places you go where the fans are certain way like he always talks about philadelphia fans there get on his case to get on the athletes case all the time. They're tough fans in philadelphia as a lot of people remind you. They once booed santa claus. So for you in your travels as a professional wrestler. What is there is there a market. Is there a city that you go to. And you're like these people are tough here. I did philadelphia there along with places. Like new york you know. They're very educated about wwe. And if you're not giving them a hundred percent or they don't quite believe in a character they're gonna bury loudly makes it opinion hurt but thankfully the vote. Very good to drew mcintyre and always go behind me. yeah drew beside the lack of crowds. What was what has been the biggest challenge in this pandemic for wrestling i mean. Lack of crowd is absolutely a top of the list. Where such an interactive products for every other sport. You know it's been difficult and often the fans there and you see the finds backing or baseball football excetera. It's like okay awesome atmosphere back for. Wwe you know we are back and forth with that audience. They make such a difference to our shows. And there's nothing that comes close to losing audience during that time was so difficult to have them back this past month. There's been such a difference maker and the fact that we're going to have over forty thousand fans at allegiance stadium for summer slam this weekend just blows my mind and i'm so excited because it's been about a year and a half plus of had that many people in the same place so you mean to tell them you got to you just ready to go you all fired up now that the crowds are back. I'm so fired up as i say this past month. Plus having the fans there for televised events or non televised events with so much energy from the beginning of the show to the end of the show up in here in vegas the past two days just doing all the special events for the fans working with some of our cars of organizations that was special olympics last night. Just been around everybody again and feeling that energy excitement for summer slammed just means the world to me. And i know it's be so fricking loud forty thousand. Wwe fans are going to sound like one hundred fifty thousand signs on saturday. Drew mcintyre joins us right now in the goodyear hotline summer slam on saturday. Yes fans in the building as well and as you mentioned there's there is something about the adrenaline that certainly added to it when you get the crowds and of course the raucous crowds that that of course Wrestling does bring in. But it's gonna be an interesting night for you because you're wrestling against the former tag team partner. In general how what. What should we expect from this. You guys have have some history together now going against them. Yeah i mean. I'm very happy for gender. Is somebody who had been friends with over ten plus years with very similar paths and we got signed to. Wwe very young or early twenties cause huge opportunities than ever since slipped away and we both basically go asses fired and then we had to work our way back to the company and we worked extremely hard. Gender became wbz champion. I then i begin to take. Wwe champion now. We have this big match and the biggest stage together. I feel so proud for gender but at the same time i feel bad for them because they're gonna have to beat them up and embarrassing and kick his head off when the stem hatch. So you're triple crown champion. A royal rumble winner in the wwe. What else is there. You know what. What is there left. Well wanted to get my wb championship back and we talked about dolphin fans there me. Twenty years to become wwe champion. Beat be class number five minutes with no fans there. I regained my wwe championship. And the thunderdome against randy orton with virtual funds. There in even though. I've been wwf over three hundred days. I've never been champion. With fans present in the stands. Some go now is to win back my title so eventually actually go fans in the crowd. I can hold up. That's how you in front of. I got one. I got one for you. The top rope though. That'll get it back on the top rope and just dive off right onto that dude's head and you get to get it back. He's giving you strategy here if you need it right strategy there you know i'm six foot. Five hundred seventy pounds generally. I'm better on the ground beating the crap out of my opponent. But if i get up in the top rule jump off the top rope and just punch my opponent in the face and the ropes. I don't anthony flex you're gotta do flips. But if i can talk robot a punch to the face the hell the punch no kidding with all that size but you mentioned it though like to win. It's a big deal to win. Obviously you're you're you're first title but to celebrate and then you're in an empty building when you're doing it. That was the whole bizarre thing about what was going on. We've seen it all across sports in the nba bubble. You win a championship. And it's like you're celebrating but it doesn't feel real so for you visit an opportunity to have not just a celebration for yourself to have thousands of people celebrating with you when you watch it back. And i know they had pumped in crowd noise for you but is it harder to enjoy it like that first time around because it just didn't have that same feel with thousands of people in the crowd. Yes i know. I'd mixed feelings about it because obviously as a kid i didn't imagine myself went into. Ww tight when the main event wrestlemainia in front of nobody. But you know being in the nature of the in the fact that every other sport and entertainment companies shut down and wwe. We're going to push ahead. As the only original content. The only escape for people across the world and wrestlemainia was over two days. I was the very last match up a bit of a few good story going into and me. Winning the title could make a lot of people. happy. The guy knew winning. It was a special moment. But then to see the feedback..

"Jay wills zoo presented by progressive insurance all the goodyear hotline key steps in to get up. So who joins me. Man bart scott. So you're on the show called barton haunt. How is it good. I heard his half good. We're we miss you. We mitch over there. It's been crazy. Why can't the jets have nice things. Why can't we have nice at least finally somebody sitting next to me that understand a former jet that understands the jet misery. 'cause ks like telling me they weren't going to be good anyway teams matter like listening keys. Bitter right the buckner he. He took off his hat longtime ago. I'll tell you what you know. They they arguably with loss would probably have one of the best defensive lies in the game right. Think about clinton williams ascending been able to have a true pass rusher next to him. Had a true pass rusher since. John abraham ram now. You can't double team either one of you get to slide coverage which allows rankings fodder kasey all the other guys meyers on the other side to get one on one. You spec them. I hope that they can win to protect that young secondary. Now everything's out of the window. You gotta be more aggressive. The quarterbacks won't be able to burp the baby you're had the blitz p when you're going to expose your back in you get cj moseley. You know he shows you arguably the he's the greatest fifty seven in the history of the jets organization. Here you hurts itself in the first half haven't seen him in two years the most high price off season acquisition that they got this year two seasons later call lawson looks great. Right gets hurt happens again. That was the only. We've now all around the country going. Why are we talking about the jets. The jets are not going to be good. Okay it's all about perspective. It's all about perspective of a team that drafted very high in the draft at number two and they took a quarterback and barton. Zach wilson moved up aggressively. Get tucker that was also that was key to the tucker obviously was a nice addition to upgrade the offensive. Line's another piece there as well after last year. Mci in in the first round. So it's it's were watching with joe. Douglas the rebuild of a team. And this is. I mean you'd call this year. Two of a rebuild even though it's been because it's only a second trap getting count right. You didn't call you talk about you. Know what he was able to do in the off season going out and getting morgan moses. That's that was big right there like now. You can say okay. We're putting zach wilson. A young rookie quarterback out there taking them to the wolves not so quickly. He has some backup. You'd think about elijah more. You think about you know crowder stand. Been going on and going to get davis. Ma'am say laurie right. Davidson is taking it right. The good draft michael. Kara who people believe should have been a second round draft pick this. This was a team that may not be going into the playoffs. But this was a team that was going to let everybody know that they were ascending. Right ascending much. Like the san francisco forty niners team did just a couple of years before kyle shanahan got. He's building his team in a right way. They still have tremendous draft equity going forward next year. Two first round draft picks they can go get two great guys. But now you're going to have karl laws on a three year deal. You're not going to see him the first year to deal. Read something that kara lawson wrote on instagram in a moment part scott joining us right now in the studio giving us the straight talk like he always does brought to you by straight talk wireless no contract no compromise. So carlson went to instagram. After the injury to say for those who truly know me know what this is know that this is like a flesh wound to me. God's with me. I control what i can control. Some always back better loved ones friends and fans. Please please keep your chins up. So i can raise minds higher flesh. That's all it is. It's an achilles bart roll. Pass your pro linebacker. You understand the idea of bursts in the importance of that first step and everything else and achilles pass rusher just just try to describe what what will we see him as an impact player off this injury. You is that your biggest concern about him. Everybody responds differently. I remember he says we'll have the same injury and he's still went on to continue to have effective in in throws yeah to real songs dominate all. The world knows my bad. Yeah you know he was able to go on. Still continue to be dominant. He's young you hope he can byles back to technology and the surgeries a lot better than it used to be. He's probably gonna go down this dr anderson down in charlotte who does all the foot and toe and all that type of you know type of things but you know just another blow right because now you know we really can't evaluate quinn williams wanted to see quin williams potentially have dominate season. And now we don't know right. He's coming back in. We haven't seen it. We were anticipating is going to be dominant and we just don't know how you respond coming back to that because usually what happens when you come back from injury compensation so you worry about the killys dan. Now you worry about okay. Acl what's going to be different on. Him is going to be a got as needed to. Really you know rush from one side or the other based on. What's achilles daddy. Hurt these these dual practices. Now these joint practices that you're seeing in the nfl season game really become more and more of.

"I'll take your advice now. You just heard it in the rejoin. Don't get excited about the preseason. I'm aside about anything now. I can't you can't if you're a jets fan you you're not allowed to ever feel good or have some anticipation or some hope or anything not allowed to have it. They squash it every time and it happened yesterday. It happened yesterday. And i know you're gonna tell me i'll speak for you. You're gonna tell me they weren't gonna win anything anyway this year. They're grown were too young. That's why i'm saying. I'm going to say before you say to me. I know i i wasn't say in play offs. I wasn't saying this is going to be year. I wasn't saying none of that. But i was saying was is. It's the coaching staff is new. And i kind of like them. It's a young team and they got some talent. The defense like like there was that feeling again of. I like the directions team. Going in like joe. Stop five or six games. I felt good about the team for the first time in at least four or five years. Is todd bowles was coaching. His team with a should have made the playoffs in. Didn't they lost that last game in buffalo which is another story. Five or six games okay. Great that's good for him. That's fine you show progress with a young quarterback you get some good defensive players and you just show progress and it looks like a professional football team not iraq operation except every time you get to that point the jets as a fan remind you there. The jets because injury happens like carlos but you haven't had a pass rusher here in such a long time. You finally get one as you mentioned defense john. John abraham you finally get somebody like that you have. Cj moseley back in remember cj mostly got hurt. He had a great first-half as problem years ago. And then he got hurt. Everything fell apart and it happens all the time. Taper the expectations. And you'll be fine. It's not about expectations key. It wasn't about that about liking what you saw in wanting to bring that down. It is too much as to enact your team actually punching a good team you gotta let it develop though just you want to see. It'd be a real organised organized team. And they saw. They signed a guy that i thought this is going to be specially ed him to. Cj moseley carlos he's gonna be great and then he pops his achilles in a practice you would there. You were there in ninety nine. He was supposed to be a super bowl team. You were all nazi gain. Vinnie got hurt in a game in week. One a game in week. One and the next guy coming out as rick mirer look at. I gotta watch this guy who y- well. How did that work not good. Not good chad pennington. That was that team with a bunch of guys they bring him in. Have a chance to be a super team. Everybody got hurt including chad pennington. He gets it just. They just a floor drops out from under every time the jet fan as it. This is the life jets fan. There's lucy there's the football. And i'm charlie brown. You know what's coming next but you can't help it. You're running every time to the football. That's the life of a jets fan and that's what yesterday was their big off season. Move defensively and they're going to have to wait a year to weightier. Wait wait a year. Wait a year wait a year. You know you know who understands this not necessarily from the fan perspective from the there's always next year perspective is rich cellini who covers the jets for us at espn. And in fact he's rich. You've covered the jetsons. They were called the titans. If i'm not mistakes quite i was there in ninety nine when vinnie got hurt and keyshawn was so upset after the game that he slammed the interview podium with his fist. And i i remember that vividly but you know that was a totally different. I mean that was a super bowl. Contending team at you know what happened. Like he is right. I mean the jets with law center without. They're not gonna go to the playoffs. But i still understand the angst of the jets fan. It's tough it's just the idea of and you get what i'm saying right and what what was what was going to at least be a strong suit for them. The defense you felt like that that would have been something to watch. And yeah okay. So we're being told. This is a developing team with a young quarterback in some young players. Okay that's fine. But i like to be able to watch it. Develop with all the pieces in place and start to see what this could become but without him there and not knowing. The unknown is coming back from the achilles now and still be explosive which is obviously what he needs to do. The disrupted that he is well now. That's another question which we thought. Maybe that question was answered. Haven't had a password such a long time having a guy like this is such a long time. Well now you gotta find another one like this. That's the frustration rich. Well yeah i mean this this'll have lingered the ripple effects will be felt long time. 'cause achilles is the worst injury you could have especially. I was texting with a former player yesterday of defensive player especially for speed rusher. His game is all about. Get off you know. He had one of the fastest. Get off in the nfl last year among edge rushers and so you have to wonder you know how that will impact him even next season. I if you'll be a little bit slower and It's tough i mean. This guy works like a maniac is a guy who was in the gym all the time and you take one look at his upper body. And you'll know that but this is this is a tough injury. So who replaces him in the defensive line rotation. Well it's a name. That's probably not on the tips of sporting public. He's sean it's it's bryce huff. He's a second-year player out of memphis. He was an undrafted rookie. Last year. played a little bit Played a little bit the other night against the giants actually had two sacks he's He's a car loss type in in body type. You know that shorter type guy about two hundred fifty five pounds. He's got some pasha skills. But he's not kara lawson. He doesn't have that type of explosiveness and so they'll go by committee. I think ultimately Vinny curry is under roster. He's injured right now his eventually he'd come back and get into what looks at a very big. You know committee at defensive and so now the jets are looking for a lot of defensive. Help cleaning williams's entering his star year. How important is this year for him. Well it's it's years. I mean i. It's the pressure. Just got a little bigger on him because he and colonel. The plan was to have them work in tandem. pointing the three techniques. Carl outside and now. I think even more pressure on quinn and now. He's not gonna play on saturday In green bay. He's still coming off. That surgically repaired thought but they. They're hoping that he will be back. at practice next week you know taking some significant reps. It's a big year for him. It's his third year. We all know what that means in the nfl. For first round pick you know you have a good year you know. He's eligible for a new contract next off season. So that's that's the motivation for rich. Amini joins us right now on. The goodyear hotline covers the jets for us at espn zach. Wilson obviously is one of the big stories or maybe even the main story for this team. I keep going back to this rich. He's it there's no safety net after him there as all in as you possibly can be on him. Because all the other quarterbacks that have been taking in the first round this year there is an option even trevor lawrence as much as it sounds silly. There is gardner menchu who had taken snaps. Who's been a star. Who's done some things. The jets zach wilson. And no one else right now. Is that really what they're doing this season or do you expect them at some point. Whether it's nick foles or something to bring in a veteran of behind him who can be that safety net in case things go really bad for him early. Yeah i mean. I really don't like what they're doing here. But i mean if you ask me a month or so ago. I said yeah. They're going to get it back up in there but you know everything they've said and the way looks is they're going to go with what they have. I think mike white will be the backup. A former dallas draft pick who basically spent a couple of years on practice squad. So he's going to be the backup and It is a very unusual situation. The jets will be the first team to go into a season without any quarterbacks having regular season experience since two thousand thirteen..

"By hudson don't care hunters that it. I don't care what we saw. I'm doing the college football playoff that clemson. That's not something you want. And that's why these things matter you won't get an opportunity to face these guys in the game enough with game plans because it's the pre season but at practice you can go all out you can improve and you could see where and who you are and i love the excitement and i love the intensity from both. The rams and the raiders are season the secondary guys have a short fuse. They're always fighting and listen as a pass. Rusher as a pass rusher. I can tell you this. The patriots would always had the joint practice thing. I personally did not like it because pass rushing is a chess match. It's all right. I'm going to show you this. But i'm gonna do that. I'm going to set you up with this. But then i know when the money's on the line i'm a break this out so i can remember back. We be playing. We doing the join practices and we were doing. Pass rush one on one. I'm not going to show the tackle. I'm not gonna show him what i'm going to do in the game to him. No no no so. I'd run through the motions. Yeah i get it. Okay and dante scar. Nikki was the coach for the patriots. Always look at me and go you sandbags. Because he knew that wasn't going to show him not gonna show the tackle okay. I like the double. Swipe i liked the double swipe so no. That's the joy practices. Yeah great for competition. But i want to do that in the game for a sack in the game the niko just say the. Db's are dumb savages into make smart as the pass rush. Y'all fiery we're doing strategies are double moves and not show. Did you ever get any fights in these joint practices or anytime for that matter. You can't get in a fight if you don't practice hard. Worst fears confirmed here. Kara lawson defensive lineman they signed for big money in free agency did rupture his achilles tendon in practice today. Obviously we'll have to miss the entire season as a result devastating loss for the jets defense. He had been a star of their camp and they had high hopes for him for this season. So unfortunate for carl lawson sending him our best wishes. Let's get to the game tonight. As football's happening in just a few hours lincoln financial field will be the site. The patriots taken on philadelphia already. Heard that cam. Newton start for the patriots. Of course we'll see jones to but there you see jalen hurts. He's expected to start for the eagles tonight. Once again and eagles fans want see even more from him tonight tonight show why he can do so much sal paolantonio joining us there from philly. So what can we expect tonight. Hey there laura even though. It's preseason when you got the dynasty from foxborough visiting phillies special here. They're always plenty of story lines and you got to look at two players tonight. Who won that super bowl. Fifty two for the philadelphia eagles. Let's start with nine year. Veteran tight end zakar been unhappy with his contract situation. The eagles tried to trade him in the off season but he's had one of the best camps of his nine year career. He'll be out here tonight and he'll be an important part of this offensive. We'll watch him closely the other nelson wide receiver now with the patriots important for a lot of different reasons the patriots at problems last year at the wide receiver position and he will help out matt jones and cam newton especially with those option routes in the middle of the field. Laura thanks so much. Sal doing himself there in philadelphia. What are you hearing about philadelphia. Receiver devante smith availability for. Tonight's game laura. I'm told he will get some snaps. The plan is to play him a little bit in. Tonight's game smith. You remember missed a couple of weeks of practice with an injury or return to practice earlier this week and the eagles are encouraged enough by his progress that they do plan to get him on the field at least a little bit tonight. Get his feet wet in terms of nfl action for the very first time for the rookie. The heisman trophy winner from alabama. Listen i'm. I'm extremely excited because dan talks about him being from alabama listen. He's from eight meat louisiana adults and it's awesome to see him. Come back from this injury and now get an opportunity to play in. The preseason with jalen hurts because the eagles need to see this passing game be more efficient this year and devante smith will be a huge part of that. Yeah we know. They've got some special plans for smith and it. It'll obviously help jalen hurts. What do you need to see tonight and then go out of jalen hurts that lets you know. He's taken those steps necessary to be. The future of this franchise potentially. Yeah i think he just has to have the confidence to go out there and play ball look last year. When he played the saints he came in. He wasn't the guy last. Now he is the guy so last year against the saints. He goes out there against the number one defense and he made them look foolish. So i think this year if he can go out there with that same confidence that same swagger just go play ball And we've all seen these new modern mobile quarterback second get out of the pocket and hurt you with his feet and he could also throw down the field if he can do that. Listen i think he will be there for a very long time and he would. You will have a major year. And i'm a big fan so i hope tonight he can go out there and just fly around and make some plays. I love. I love to him. Be out there ballin. You know what's crazy about jalen hurts is anytime you talk to someone who knows him intimately who's been in the locker room with him. Who has coached them. They never have anything negative to say about him. It's only positively leadership work ethic all of these things but then from the outside. There's always questions about who jalen hurts can be as a quarterback he played well last year he was good in the first game of this preseason but even nick surani is coach. Says he needs to see more gela. I needs to get the full ball out of his hands. Yes but he also needs to be jalen hurts because every place he's been here's one every place he's been. He's been the leader of that team. He needs to continue to do those things and also show some of the things. These hey coach needs to see but jalen hurts. Is the quarterback of this team whether you name him or not you know are. Do you think that some of the reticence. Maybe even from eagles fans themselves as because maybe they don't realize that a lot of the nfl game has changed. Offensively jalen hurts skill. set actually to nick's point fits in really well with what these teams want to absolutely correct. Laura but i also think it's familiar -ality right you you sarkar carson win. You got to see nick foles and it didn't look or it didn't display the way that we see jalen hurts play when he uses his legs in the way that he does but you have a coach who actually doesn't say that he loves that a coach who's not coming out and say these are some. This is something we're gonna utilize. I think as fans you feel like okay. Maybe this is what we're looking for. And i think once serianni gets behind him. So can the fans in philadelphia. I'm really excited for this game tonight. All right time for one more thing before we go and for this. Espn senior draft analyst. "Carl Lawson with the fourth round pick in an effort to replace his production, they take eggs, guys and round 34 and seven Yeah, and the Bangles. Um, certainly not not the team that always burns it up in free agency. That's more like New England. New England drafts and it's they just go out how well that will get him in free agency. The Bangles the opposite of that, for for a whole bunch of reasons. On D I think out of that to Cameron sample from two lane. He's just like the guy was like, Well, you know, he's a project. We'll see how it pans out. And which is kind of weird around four, right? I mean, that's the vibe I got was like, Well, maybe a year, Maybe two will see. Um we can work with this guy and get more needs to be. Yeah. Look, we've we've We've seen the Bangles address the edge with project guys in early around Margus Hunt. And with markets and Cincinnati. It never really worked out. If you're going to take a project I on the edge, I'd thought whether do it with the 111th pick. Then, you know, picking early in round two, which is what they did with what they did with Marcus Hunt. Yeah, There's look, you're talking about a 62 kids you're talking about. Who got a lot of FTS level of attention and then ended up getting a gig at an FBI school into lane. First team All 80 80 guys 7.5 sacks. He got better every single year. Big back. Um, they don't talk about his explosiveness. They don't talk about his speed. But the production and in a truncated season was there and again. Um, you know, in the middle rounds, you're not always looking for guys who are gonna make an instant impact. But there is a lot of upside and again. It's certainly addresses a position of me. But I think you also look at it is. Hey, You know what? We had some capital Bern here Because, remember the second round they traded down with the England They got Jackson Carmen who They're going to get any way eight picks before that. They get a couple of extra fourth rounders. So you come in and you get all right. We'll get him. But we know just a few pics later. Like what? 10 picks late. 11 picks later. You know how much of a different sort of be the 10th 11 picks in the fourth round. So, uh, s so you know, they're coming to get what? Tyler Shevlin on. Ls you This guy is a He's a beast, right? This is basically a bowling ball with legs. 350 something pounds right over £350 monkey, broad shoulders, wide hip sickness all over the place. Couple of things. Number one. This was regarded as a very shallow class. Some interior defensive lineman number two people talk about lack of discipline and his conditioning being a little bit of an issue. Um, one NFL scouts said quote he could be Vince will fork. If he was motivated to be so, All right. You know you're you're you're question Mark type guys typically fall to Saturday. He doesn't have a ton of experience mentioned. He opted out. Last year. He was only a one year starter, but Um, the size is what you're looking for first, and you talked about it. This is a guy teach that wound close to £390. So conditioning can be a little bit of an issue. But you cannot quarrel with the size and you know again. What I wonder is in a different year with the deeper class of interior defensive lineman. Where is he? Where is Tyler Sheldon? But You're certainly attracted by the socks, right? Well, don't just just don't eat yourself out of the NFL like Tony Pike did that's all. Don't eat yourself out of the NFL like Tony piped it, Thomas Shoveling. Just calm down. Hit the gym, Father coaches, Father nutritionist, Do what you need to do and let it take care of itself because you can't teach £350 Man mountains. Um, also so the third pick in the fourth round Deante Smith. I don't know much about this guy, uh, seems like another project for Frank Polich. Yeah, suffered an injury after just one game this past season at CCU, but it had a lot of experience started. Every game in 2019 started every game the previous year, handle the left tackle spot, and they want a pro style stock on offense. Um, where the thing is, they had that issue you three different offensive line coaches during his five years and still Developed at a pretty nice base, and he was great at the Senior Bowl after missing basically his entire year. He's a former high school wrestler, and he credits he credits being a high school wrestler with really allowing him to unlock your skills. You know, again Project has to sharpen his technique, but a lot of upside 5 £305 good, multiple fame. Um and, you know, look They needed offense, The Rheiman they took two with their first with their first six picks, and and a guy here with a lot of experience, Frankly, maybe not as good as finacial, but more experiences a starter in college football and an honorable mention All Conference guy in 2019 0 is here from ESPN. 15 30 here in the afternoon. Three o'clock through a six today. And I were talking about the Bengals draft. Obviously here to. In retrospect, it was a pretty good one. Bye bye. All measurements all metrics, and most analysts agree. The Bengals did pretty good this year. I think it's interesting that in the fifth round, they take the only kicker that that went. And that has happened. MacPherson out of Florida who has a monster legged monster accuracy. He's Mr all sec. I think a record for career field goal percentage. I think, as we set the record for the SEC On dicks over 50 yards. You know, it's always interesting to me about how kick Well, you know, kickers are a dime a dozen get to skill players in there, too, But, yeah, I don't know. There's just there's also the gamble to write is mentally. It's a more of a mental game. And look at Randy Bullock, right. It thinks are today wobbling in your head a little bit. You got problems, not the physical aspect. It's the mental aspect and rising to the pressure because it's all on you at that moment, but man You get a kicker like well, like Pittsburgh has, like Baltimore has. It's a whole different. It's literally a whole different game because you're talking about three points. And if you don't move the football well, like the Bengals haven't recently. Now a kicker becomes even more important. Get some points on the board. It's very important. You mentioned Baltimore with Justin Tucker. It's such a great weapon to have. When you have a guy who can take possessions that for other teams would end in the punch, and they could end with You getting three points and let's be honest here. If the Bengals were gonna have a winning season, and that's the goal, they're gonna have to win games decided by clothes money, which is not something they've done well. Uh, under Zach Taylor. And, you know? Yeah. They replaced Randy Bullock with Austin Cyber. It always felt like Excuse me..
NFL cuts expected to be a ‘massacre,’ ‘bloodbath’ next week
"We are on the fringe. We're nearing free agency. Actually just read a very interesting to tweet about a nfl coach. Saying that next week was gonna be a bloodbath. with the cap situation Do the covid that it's going to be a very interesting year. A lot of people are going to be getting cut prior to free agency to free up room. So we'll see what happens In you know the free agents were talking about might not even be like the big guys you know we end up signing at the end of the day so one big name we have been talking about and you specifically talked about this guy. Quite a bit is joni From new england the patriots are not going to use the franchise on him again. They can't do it. They they're cap situation would allow forward. I believe but with what you end up making the second time around. It really doesn't make any sense to them. As i was listening to boston. Sports radio their day like they were talking about that. Very topic so loonies. He's a big name. being fans. Love is a big often. Attack was out there And they've got to think about bringing their own guys. Back to william jackson in kara lawson entering free agency. So that's a big big names in some big money right there. What what can really afford to do. So that you you hit the list You hit you hit the big players. They're they have of course two big guys. Internally that are scheduled to be free agents in jackson and lawson one of those may end up getting the franchise tag. Probably the non-exclusive. If i had a bad at this point i'd probably say it's carl lawson and and we don't know the exact figures yet but they'll come out soon what the values will be But it's based position and since deandre get paid a little bit more than corners. Speed deanne tag is going to be a little higher. But i think that's a cost of the bengals are willing to take just to avoid the risk of losing carl. Potentially at an already weakened spot you know masterpass russia's spin has been existent Especially last year And i think room on bengals dot com had a couple of comments today from an article today saying they're looking to shore up the pass rush and he didn't mention actually edge rusher cement of course interior pressure which was good to see liu mentioned and we can talk about some interior linemen. Who are going to be on the market that could provide some interior. Pass rush to collapse the pocket if you will but to your question about what. They can't afford i. There is a way for them to structure these contracts with the amount of space that they have available. Of course we don't know what official cap will be just like we don't know what the tag amounts are going to be. We don't really know the final numbers quite yet. We know the cap can't go below one eighty But let's assume it stays right at that floor. I been under the working on the assumption that it's going to creep up to one eighty five rather optimistically but who knows if it gets that high. Is you mentioned kobe. Kobe tope took all essentially all the local revenues that these teams generated and made it two zero for almost all of them. There are some teams based on the cities and state. They were in that allowed some attendance. That really you know. It was a small percentage of what a normal season would be. So they're sitting in a good spot. Relatively speaking in terms of current cap space. There are about thirty seven million once you account for the almost eleven million. They rolled over last year. So at that point if they just stay there. They're they're currently line to be seventh most in cap space and that's a lot to work with in terms just resigning those guys internally and then going out on the market for tuning type of player ariba some more mid tier guys in the bond bell mold last year. You know a more of a modest deal where you get a lot of value in that regard but if they ended up staying put without making cuts and being seventh and cap space that gives them a lot of flexibility. But i think to your earlier point. We are gonna start seeing a lot more cut. We started seeing some today. There were some report. I think gave jackson the right guard for the raiders is not. There's a report that they they're looking to trade their right tackle trent brown. If they can't find a trade partner they'll likely cut him too. So the market's going to be flooded. It's going to be starting to be flooded. It's going to be even more so and on the bengals and they're likely to make some calm cap cuts. They don't need to make them because they have plenty of room. But just the value is not there to keep some of these guys on the books. You know the names. Bobby heart which will save just under five point nine million. Bj phinney will save three and a quarter million with no dead money and then of course geno atkins. We've talked about the gino situation Pretty at length and the question will be whether they released him. Post june one or or designated or releasing prior to june one or designate him or our releasing post you one which adds a little bit more savings to it but if you cut those three guys even if you don't cut gino with a post june one designation that adds about nine million in addition In additional cap space. So if you had that. Nineteen to thirty seven. Obviously naira almost sixty million and fifty six million give or take And that would baltim- in the top five of capital so they have a lot of flexibility to enter the long-term extensions with both their internal free and to go out on the market and signs of sizeable Upgrades hopefully on the offense line and positions that they they really need to

"Zac's answer was and you can understand him taking this approach wanted. Unlike making predictions, he said. We certainly have to get a lot better in a lot of areas in Windsor number one. I'm really excited about this off season in the work we're going to put in to make sure our team improves and put all these pieces together. To have a great year. That's our expectation. We had those expectations this year and we had opportunities, so it's on us to make sure we make the most of those opportunities this year. What has to happen in 2021 to view the season as its success? Well, in no particular order? Well, I'll start with the most important job. Burroughs got to be healthy. And then Joe Burrows. Gotta be kept healthy. He's gonna be kept standing up, clean protected, protect the investment. They're gonna have to figure out a way to pressure the quarterback get pressure on the quarterback in some way, shape or form they're going to have to if I can backtrack one. If they're going to do that, with Joe, That's obviously going to be what everybody is viewing the most important factor in the offseason addressing the offensive line in the draft in free agency, perhaps both they're gonna have to take some swings and they can't be swings and misses and free agency. They have to be swings and they have to be extra base hits in free agency. I'm not so sure it doesn't have to. The first one doesn't have to be a home run in free agency, and they're gonna have to take some swings and deliver extra base hits in the draft again. His team won two games two years ago. Four games this year in answering the question what has to happen in 2021? For exact view? The season is a success. If all of those air done all of those must be done, and then success will be a winning season as the first step beyond that, If it's nine or 10 wins, the rest is out of your control in terms of Whether you're gonna make the playoffs or not, But there's a lot of interesting questions inside of all of that, and I hit on someone with J, including William Jackson, third or Carl Lawson. Everybody wants the Bangles to go big and go bold and free agency and they did a year ago for $150 million in free agency, and the results were mixed bag, but they've got to. They've got to figure out how they're going to approach. William Jackson, the third and Carl Lawson. It is a passing league. If it's a passing league to defend that you're gonna have to get pressure on the quarterback and be able to cover and the less pressure on the quarterback. The longer you have to cover. Good luck. If they can't figure out a way. Keep Carl Lawson, you are down to Sam Hubbard. Yikes on a team that already had trouble getting to the quarterback. If you can't keep William Jackson the third you've got Trae Waynes, who? A year ago, They invested three years $42 million in. Unfortunately, he never took a snap because he toward the pectoral pectoral muscle. But you've also got a Darius Phillips and a couple other lesser options. But if it's what are the other and I don't know, Maybe it's Maybe it's one gets signed an extension one gets tagged. I don't know how likely that is because the tag is such a big number with what they're gonna have to get done this offseason, But if you make it one of the other Want Carl Lawson over William Jackson, the third I'll take the guy who can be disruptive. Now. You could argue that Carl Lawson, the switch has to stay flipped and on more often, there will be burst and flashes. And there will be moments where you think he looks so good. You think they'll never be able to afford him in free agency. The guy's a monster. And then there's stretches. Where you say, Where did Carl Lawson go? And yet he's still young. What 25 years old Andre Asses? Muchas it is a cover league. William Jackson the third to me. In his first year you were like, Oh, yeah, Man, The graph the church for this guy. This guy's got a trend up and up it up and just get better. And there were moments in the past couple of years where William Jackson just if he wasn't hurt. He was just kind of He was just there. And you can't just be there you get you gotta make plays. I mean, he's a reputation in Houston was he got his hands on the ball. He batted out a lot of passes. He picked off a lot of passes. He was a playmaker, and he just he hasn't made Don't think he's made the place that you would have thought a first round corner would have made to this point. So if it's one of the other, it's Carl Lawson. You know what else has to take place in order for this season to be successful? Their best players have to play their best. But I go back to what just happened this past season And if you look simply from a Monetary standpoint, a cap standpoint of what they spent. The chunk of the cap it took up. And what they got in return. The classic return on investment mean AJ Green $18 million What did they get out of a J. Green? I think there were four weeks he did not have a catch during the season. Gino Atkins. Next at 14.2 Million. What do they get out of Gino Atkins? Zip zilch. Nata, limited snaps and one pressure. I think one tackle the entire season. DJ reader got hurt the big offseason investment. He'll be back had the thigh injury, but that was 10 Million. They spent Trae Waynes 10 million counted this year. Bobby Hart, Don't even get me started. Carlos Dunlap. Don't even get me started there. And I mean, that's 1234. Those air six guys those of the six biggest cap hits and what what production did they get combined out of Green Atkins Reader, Wayne's Heart and Dunlap and you can't win in the NFL. If your best players don't perform their best. Release your highest paid players in theory, your best players because you're devoting that kind of money to him. But you had. You know, Sean Williams didn't play much. His cap. It was around five. You know, John Ross around five million. See Jay Oussama got hurt. He was closer to six million. Joe mixing got hurt, and we didn't hear from him. For what? The final how many games of the season and that was about four million on the cap. Jonah Williams got hurt. I don't want to say again, but but he got hurt, So that's a big stack of talent..

"You have to turn it up. I mean, basically, you have to. Ah, you have to turn the volume up. You don't just shut it down. Washington has it at the 15 yard line. As a result of the penalty. McLaurin goes in jet motion. They faked to him. They run it up the middle and Barber is Tackled by Carl Lawson after a one yard game. Crack. And Lawson involved crowd. Hi Lawson Low See if the Bangles can minimize this limited to nothing but a field goal opportunity. Washington football team has been in the Red Zone twice, and they have two touchdowns, not the case for the Bangles been in there. Three times You have one touchdown. Antonio Gibson scored first on the three yard run That was on the opening in the opening quarter, and Steven Sims has a three yard touchdown catch here in the third quarter. Washington up by 55 minutes left third quarter. Second and nine of the Cincinnati 14 Yard line. Alex Smith looking to throw quick pass slant broken up intended for McLaurin, and Will Jackson reached around his right shoulder and knocked it away. Did a good job. Yeah. Didn't have tremendous position McLaren had inside position on the butt. Well does have some length. He's got some long arms and kind of put that right arm underneath there and got it up underneath the shoulder pattern. McLaurin third down and nine play coming up in the red Zone at the Cincinnati 14 yard line. Massive play right here. This. This is ah, four point play or could be a four point play of the Bangles can step up Alex Smith 12 out of 18 for 129.

"Stop the hemorrhaging. With runs in between tackles. You can't be fooled by Jacksonville last week, although they're running back was very, very good. Can't be fooled by that. And you know that this is what the Ravens are going to try and do. And they also know that Lamar Jackson can take off in a moments notice. So while reader and actions have to contain the middle of that defense and shore that up The edge guys. And that obviously is Sam Hubbard. And now Carl Lawson have got to make sure that they contain the outside or Jackson will just burn them. Lawson's fast as the ability to make up in case there is a mistake. But I think if they can get what they ought to get Out of reader and Jackson together, I think Those will be the players in the spotlight who could control Whether or not that defense can't control. "There are there are many instances of players late in their career who reinvented themselves and said, All right, I'm going to become the best damn third down pass rusher in the NFL. And what is your 0.2025 snaps? If you can give that to a team is a veteran. They can They can find those opportunities for you. And I like I like the double motivation. You kind of alluded to Carlos. Certainly. Now, all right, I'll show you Let's remember Carl Lawson is in a contract year is well and I thought was going into the season. Carl Lawson is going to be motivated to to earn some money, and clearly his play indicates that he's he's chasing a pretty good bank right now. No question, But as I told you during the day when we were talking, I like, eh Motivated upset there, I say, pissed off Carlos Dunlap, because I think that's kind of been attached to him. Right, maybe on offense. I don't think that's unfair that sometimes motivation and it has been a powers of the rats coming out of Florida 11 years ago. Exactly So now Because a I'll take it up sink Carlos Dunlap. That's a good thing for this team. "Away we go. Eight o'clock hour is underway. Rock. I'm not surprised that we're having this much fun. I thought we would. But this has been a nice little cross section combination than a regin Mengele's tonight. Good, Alright, were going to do it till nine. Gamble and Finn After that we've worked our way through the Reds Lost today is depressing is that was the season comes to a grinding hold, not scoring in the 22 games of the postseason. We've worked in the Bengals conversation. As well. This is the furniture fair and bet River Sportsbook Roundtable showed is brought to you, in part by Hawksworth Blood centers. Hawksworth Donor Save lives. Who will you save and our hotline? Well, it's the Serval Electric one call. That's all hotline. Let's take a look Rocket last week's defensive player of the game for the Bengals brought to you by already I corporation already I is winning Smart will go with Carl Lawson. Four tackles, two sacks, a tackle for loss. Two quarterbacks, it hits and a forced fumble in a perfect segue way because he said something this week that kind of caught my ear. Take a listen. Here's Carl Lawson talking about Culture and the Bengals, the days of Marvin and a coaching a new coaching staff trying to create a winning culture. It's different because, like, you know, like Marvin had a philosophy and his culture, but that comma ended up breaking down as time those coming. There's some bad things within you trying to re establish new culture. That's what they're trying to do, and that's what The whole organization is trying to do so. I think it's trending upwards. We got a lot of guys want to come in here and work We just got, you know, we think they are really young team Last year, They brought some vets in here. My experiences where I think it's going is going is going with us is coming up. You know, we just takes time Boat forces. You know an NFL. You don't have much time. So you got established it in a trust. A lot of culture communism in and when you start winning games mean person, I just feel like you know, Some of the guys that were here in the past didn't really take it seriously, you know. Marvin did a great job. He personally trying to motivate those guys. But you just You know some guys that I feel like, you know, just weren't necessary all in and you know you get as much the coach you are. This is the player's control team control the game so much the coach, you could scream at him that much possible, but they don't want to do anything about it. They can Look, there's a lot in there in that 62nd sound bite. I saw you just jotting down some notes. What do you take away from us? Who asked that question? And where's the follow question of described how the culture under Marvin Lewis devolved that I've got to have the following question. That's very interesting, but there is clearly look and that's why we've said this before. At some point, If you're the new coaching staff, and you come in with your ideas in your ways and are trying to sell those Unless you put winds behind them. Then I would fight. I would think Rocky will be difficult for grown men. Professional athletes to continue to accept your message is something that's going to benefit them by producing victory. It's the same way you can't be a marginal player and be a leader. Because people are like way. Maybe you can tell me all this all you want, but where's the results? Yeah. If you can say this, sir Culture and This is what we're building. But if that this is not winning from longing it's hard for people After after while you you go along. Okay? I believe this. I believe this. I want to believe this. I can't want to still believe this. But somebody write, write and becomes heir. You sure so some points gotta start translating into It's cause and effect and nobody does anything in life. Unless you see the results of that. So we've you can honestly say okay, we're doing this and the results are Wow. We're doing pretty good. Then you can justify why you're doing those things. If not, you can let me give you one more, and then then asked you a specific question. Based on your experiences in Tennessee and Indianapolis. Here's a deejay reader. New guy free agent in the off season has come from a playoff multiple your playoff team with the Texans. He was asking if Learning to win is a really thing. No, this is definitely that's the thing. I'm not a win is a If you ask anybody to play sports special in this league learn Notto wins the biggest thing in the world. All those years you end up doing on pages being people I want to spend just knowing how to win Just any mindlessly team. Jerry, you're in the year out. They just know how to win those games. When they're winning. Don't panic When they're losing their don't panic. It's playing the everyplace we play for. It was a challenge, and that's what you got A great new culture. Honey, just one Does one break the log Jam? Do you think this one thinks one breaks La Jim gives you confidence that you can keep going? You know, it's just trying to not work. A lot of low score loss of low score loss of time. You know you're you're trying to break it open. You got it, but his heart It's hard. It's hard word. Anything. You know anything. You're trying to break open and change it. Sze gonna be tough. There's always going to be obsolete. When you feel like you're right. There is going to get in your way and you gotta break it up. You got to want to push the door. D J read earlier this week. I like listening to deejay. Ah, Reader Cannon on DH That was jefe hops in with the follow up. Does it take one meeting one win, And it does seem like rock. If and maybe I'm grasping at straws, but it does seem if just one break went their way instead of a dropped pass or a blown assignment out of a timeout. If one thing if a tip pass goes into their hands instead of the other way, maybe I'm again. I'm reaching, but it just feels like there is such a build up that if something finally goes right, maybe it breaks the dam and a lot starts to go. Right. Right. But how long do you wait for that happen? You know, and I think we're two years in tow. You know, one of a half year's night, more than half into Zack Taylor and 2, 16 and Wanda and there's some positive things and And certainly not enough time to tell a story about some point you gotta figure okay, we'll get some of those balances. But then, after a while, we're not getting the bounces like women. You know, you make your own luck kind of kind of thing, and it's got to start coming. Let me ask you this based on what curl, Lawson said. And D J reader said, Just take me back to both 10 8 there Tennessee, India or both. Who give me names other than coaching staff. Give me players, maybe veterans who were who played roles of accountability and setting standards and showing the way. Who is I'm saying that what names air coming into your head? I mean, in both instances, I think is important. You gotta have some established leaders on your offensive line. You have to have You know, 23456 leaders on your team. I think one of those guys has to be on your offensive line. That's such an important position. Like wit was exactly so. Your own with the Titans. You're talking about Brad Hopkins. Before that. You're talking about Bruce Matthews. That was right before I came with the culture Talkingbout Jeff Saturday. You're talking about Tara Glenn. You're talking about good players who were also leaders, and then I mean across those rosters. And then the defensive side of all the titans. Kevin Carter. He was a guy they traded a first round pick for I think in 2001 the year before I got there, and he was just I mean pro's pro hard worker..

"The training camp report Brought to you by Superior 107 100 W. Home of the best Bengals coverage. Tony. We have spent most of the time talking about the Bengals offensively since training camp began, and understandably so, But defensively, there's a lot of interesting pieces. And we've talked about free agent acquisitions and new guys to the defence, but I really kind of feel like a large part of their success hinges on a couple of guys who have a lot to play for namely long term contracts, both play Not necessarily the same exact position because of how they can use Carl Lawson, but but essentially both defensive lineman Carl Lawson and Sam Hubbard, who quietly had a very, very good 2019 Hubbard was great last year, and if you look at him physically at this point training camp, he's even better than he was. He's in a better spot. Physically. He's getting off the ball quick. He Khun Bull rush he can spin. He relies on quickness and power. He's the guy that's taking a step forward. You mentioned Carl Lawson, a guy that A couple years ago, looked like he was going to be the next big thing in the sea north on the defensive line. There's been questions because of the durability and because of the injuries, but Carl Lawson healthy, his motor separates him from anyone else on this defensive line. Multiple times in camp so far, he is just absolutely blown by Bobby Hart. He's going by Jonah Williams at times if healthy, Paul Lawson can be one of the best defenders On this team, and we've seen it. Times in camp already. Sam Hubbard, Carl Lawson being able to drop back into coverage situation, so maybe they get used a little bit differently this year, but We talked in the off season about the addition of BJ reader and how that's going to help guys like Karl, Carlos Dunlap and Gina Watkins. It's also going to help guys like Carl Lawson and same Hubbard because they're going to be exclusively One on one situations and if they can beat one on one, they're in line to have a big season this year for the Bangles. Tony and I back at it tomorrow as we inch closer to the regular season with Tony Bike. Mama Liquor brand point..

"Because I think he could fill in at along with Carl Lawson as maybe listening nickel passers behind a costume and give him some type of in flexibility off the edge because that's just as variable. They just don't have right now. And especially if loss coming off twenty yell a lot of questions with their pass rushing defensive line general in giving getting guideline Crosby who can win with his hands and also with athleticism. He's proven production proven that list is I think he's a guy that they definitely keep your eyes on. I like it. I'm going to stick with the the west coast, and this may not be a sleeper name to some because you know, if you're if you're mock draft fiend, you've probably seen this name mentioned to them a couple of times. I know you have mentioned him. I wanna give you credit John. You have mentioned him. I think it was all the way back. Maybe when you called in from the senior bowl. You may have mentioned this guy Chuma yoga, the the the offensive tackle from USC. I apologize stealing from you here. John. But when you started mentioning him, I had known him just from watching Pac twelve football in watching USC I had known him. And I I wasn't overly enamored with him just in general because the the US offensive line over the past in in twenty eighteen and really starting in twenty seventeen had really taken a step back in terms of what? What they've done what they were able to do in the run game in obviously Sam darnold not being there that that was in effect just on the offense overall. But. This kid who's probably going to be there in the third round. Maybe fourth round you can get them. If you're the Bengals, you know, upper middle parts of those rounds, potentially. And you may have an Anthony Collins plus type of player on a guy who has some versatility flexibility to play either tackle spot Samatha lettuces them and can be on a roster for while. I don't know that he will ever be a star player a starter. I don't know that that he will be a, you know, a tenure starter on team. But like an Anthony Collins, maybe even a bit more. He could be a guy that can start well for you in a pinch. He can starting and not just a game. But a handful of games if you need it, and he's got tools to develop ee has. Yes. Adult bulkin. I think the the knock on him is that he's he's very able in the pass protection game. But he needs to do a little bit. More in the run side of things, which is a polar opposite of some of the other guys. Bobby Hart, Alex Redman that the Bengals put out there on the right side of the line last year. But you know, if they decide to forgo a Cody Ford Jona Williams, you know, these guys at the pick eleven maybe even the top of the second round and they go maybe quarterback linebacker early. This could be guy. That's in discussion in the third round fourth round. I hate to say if you wanna give Bobby Hart a year to to to stick there at the right tackle spot. You can have this guy to develop if heart struggles, you can have this guy come off the bench and help you out. Right. Tackle like, I said he has a little flexibility for left tackle, right? Tackle versatility. I think and just just a seems like a one of those decent mid round picks that that could be on a team for for a while. And and help out a team, especially from a depth perspective. So again, not a household name, not necessarily an unfamiliar name. But one that just is not up not mentioned with the John Taylor's. The Joe Williams all those guys. So that's that's another guy for me. Okay. I'll finish it off since you with your school finish off with from my school love on all single the defensive line. I think defensive tackle is probably the position that we could see the Bengals taking somewhere in the Strath. Probably not if not. Oliver the first round maybe not even the second third through fifth round range..
