"To talk with some of my favorite people. Around the country, and my next guest is uniquely qualified to talk some baseball with us because of what he does for a living and where he grew up. Zach's Ayman is one of the Cubs broadcasters. He does an amazing job on 6 72 score. In Chicago, but also because he knows a lot about the New York Mets as well. So I wanted to bring him on to talk about the possibility of Kris Bryant joining the mats, but also just the league in general, Zach. Thanks for joining me this morning. I appreciate it. Thanks for the kind words Good morning. What's going on? Well, all right. I want to know First of all this reunion that's happened because this happened since we we last chatted the reunion that happened between the Cubs. And Jake area to what made the Cubs want to bring Jake area to back. I think it's more Jake area to being open to coming back to the Cubs. I think the reality is that While there's this belief that the Cubs aren't contending in 2021, they are contending in 2021. They might not be a championship contender is we sit here right now? But I think the National League Central is very much up for grabs. So I think when you look at the fact that they still have the core in terms of their light up, and when I say the core I'm talking about specifically Anthony Rizzo, Chris Brian, have your bias and was two controllers. You have those four guys your light up. You're gonna have an opportunity to compete and win every single game that you play. So what's the next step? Make sure that you have enough starting pitch Carl Hendrix of the top rotation. They acquired Zach Davies during the off season and a surprising new Darvish trade. We'll get to that pick. But you need to fill out the rest of that rotation, and Jake Areata was available. I think that they know what he's about. He knows what they're about. And are they expecting the cheek area of the they last saw back in 2017? No, but I think he sees an opportunity where he could be a big part of What they plan on doing this season, and they see an opportunity where you get him in there, Pitch lab. You tweak some things, and perhaps you get just a little bit more out of him. Than the Phillies did. And that makes your rotation just a little bit better. Chris Brian, I think people around the country would be like, man. I Chris. Brian, you look that guy won every single award that you could win. It looked like a guy that might be a cup for life. Why are we hearing his name associate it in so many different trade in orations. I just think that's the landscape of baseball right now. So the reality is when you look at this Cubs whatever you wanna call it, run Dynasty, whatever you want to label it asked It's two different tenders the first three years 2015 2016 2017. Three beat playoff runs, including the championship. Most Cubs fans never thought they would see. And Bryant was phenomenal. In those three seasons in 2015, he was the rookie of the year in 2016 years, the MPP in 2017 he put up For him. A lot of career numbers in major offensive categories. 2018 injuries started to hit. He got beaned in Colorado early on in the year hasn't really been the same player since also busted his shoulder and could not perform at the level that we saw 15 16 17, then in 2019. Injured. His knee wasn't the same player that he was in 15 16 17. And what do you know? The Cubs haven't been the same team and then last year of variety of different ailments in the short season and oblique a finger, a wrist injury and dealing with the pandemic as well, which was a major issue for a lot of different players. Around baseball. But in those three seasons, Chris Bryant didn't look like Kris Bryant, and Not surprisingly, the Cubs have zero playoff wins during that time. So I think that's just the reality of the business. Now that being said The Cubs were listening. If if you call and maybe a knock their socks off, Yeah. Kris Bryant may be available. But they're not giving him away. Oh, so that's why he's still a member of the franchise doing pre imposed doing. Calling the fifth inning of games on the Cups flagship station in Chicago. You've got a unique position when it comes to talking about Kris Bryant. What's this guy like? He's been really open about some of his his feelings about how bad of a season he had in 2000 and 20. For a guy that looks like he has everything. He also seems to be pretty sensitive. And I mean that in a positive way on understanding of real human being behind the smile, the good looks and the money. Would use the word authentic. I think he's a guy who's as genuine as they come. I think he loves the game with a passion. I think This. This will sound a little crazy, but I think you'll understand what I'm talking about. The game came easy. It's not an easy game, and he had to work his tail off to get to the point. Where he made it look easy in 15, 16 and 17. And then beginning in 2018. It starts with the insurance that I talked about earlier for the first time in his baseball life, and I'm going back to the time that he was a little leaguer. He had to endure. Baseball adversity. The game became hard because just getting physically right became hard and its sap them of the ability to be. We was for his first three seasons as a major leaguer, but he's still a young guy. And the reason that I go back to the fact that the Cubs aren't giving him away is if he's healthy. There is absolutely zero doubt in my mind that Kris Bryant will be one of the best players in Major League baseball in 2021. He is a legitimate superstar when he's right. A lot was made this off season when the Cardinals went out and acquired Nolan era Nada and it's a huge move because it signaled the first team In the National League Central this offseason that appeared to be going for it as opposed to Maybe retooling rebuilding, resetting whatever you want to phrase it as, but that's basically what every team in the National League Central had been doing this offseason until Aaron Otto was required by ST Louis. I would submit that if Kris Bryant is healthy. It's like adding an All Star for the Cubs this season because he will put up numbers. As good as any slugger that exists in the game today. That's how talented Kris Bryant is and to boot. He's a terrific guy in terms of personality. I also think that we don't talk about the other things that he brings to the field. He can play a variety of different positions all well. He is an outstanding base runner. He's a complete baseball player when he's healthy. But unfortunately for him the last three years he hasn't been healthy base, always any performance oriented industry and when you don't perform, that's when the ugly business of baseball rears its head. Zach's Ayman of the Cubs radio network, joining me here on CBS Sports Radio..

"See, the thing was his Wrigley Field never really saw a bigger moment than that. And I get it. They won the World Series and I said next to a gala at the world Siri's in Game seven. I was at the Game seven game, but the feeling that I got four years ago tonight. Where Clayton Kershaw, one of the best pitchers in baseball, was the favorite going up against still the little known Carl Hendrix and have Hendrix dominated game the way he dominated. The way Rizzo homered off of Clayton Kershaw, and to see a moment that every time the Cubs would get here, they would choke Lincoln, and they were on the doorstep in 2003. That's the Bartman game there up in that Siri's three games to two. This was three games to two. It's Game six at Wrigley Field. And every time they have gotten to that point, something bad would happen. And this was the exact opposite of something bad happening. This was one of the greatest games I've ever seen play by my team. To the point where at the end, it was just a celebration and not as much stress and then just the way to end it. Like besides a strikeout to have the double plane have 40,000 people yell all at once, turn it Is just the greatest way to clench. So that's why when people say to me, Sylvie really that game above winning game seven, like I was, too stressed out. I was going too crazy. When Raja Davis homered value Saami kicking the chair in front of me kicking you broke it. Yeah. I don't think I broke it on your bill. They didn't send me a belt. They did not send me a bill. Um, but it's so like that rack my brain. It was perfect timing that ESPN tweeted out. What's your favorite sports moment of all time and as a Cubs fan, and obviously I covered Maybe the greatest sports team ever in those Bulls teams that one. I was, Ah, season ticket holder thanks to my uncle and my grandfather, but I got to go to the first three peat as a fan and see many of those games. So, like there's so many to pick from in Hawks fans have 17 seconds and they have the first cop. Where were the PA Cho and Sox fans have Thie. The Paul Konerko Grand Slam with Scott iPods walk in that game off one of the greatest ever. You know the Bears Wilber Marshall running back. A turnover in the snow to clinch the Super Bowl. There's so many great ones. To pick from. Here's my question for you guys instead of just randomly saying, Hey, what was your favorite sports moment? Here's what I don't want to know from you guys because that's what I was thinking about last night reading this Do you guys believe you have seen the greatest sports moment of your life already? You guys are young. You guys or 35? You hopefully will live longer than you've already lived. You will live more than twice as long than you've lived. You're 35 You hope to live to 80. So you still have 45 more years, Let's say at least Do you think in those 45 years? You will see a moment that you love more than any moment that you've witnessed so far as a sports fan. What would you bet on? I would say yes. Really that I will. Yes. You were alive. And you were. You've seen all the great Michael Jordan games? Yes. Yeah, but I mean, I was young, so it's not. It's different. You know what I mean? Like when you're younger. I feel like you don't really appreciate championships and greatness until your you know, like 17, or older like I was young for the first three and then in middle school for the second three. So I mean, it was, you know, we were younger. So like, you know, you watch the game and you're like a and then you go to bed and go to school the next day. You know what I mean? You're not really appreciating the greatness. I was not even a year old when the Bears won. So that's mine. Mine is that when the Bears won the Super Bowl, I have never seen the Bears won the Super Bowl and I was hyped when they played the Colts that year. Like I had a buddy come into town like we're going out. All night when they win, and it was it was It wasn't if it was when they win. They started. Yeah, whatever. And we're You know, we're already celebrating after the way it started with Hester returning to touchdown for the kickoff for a touchdown. And then we all know what happened so to me. It's my favorite Chicago team is the Bears, and I haven't seen them win a championship yet, So I hope that I get that in the next 45 years or whatever. And that will be the moment. Well, what is currently you're the greatest sports moment. You saw it. You don't have to be there. Just anything your eyes of witness television or in person. Greatest game I've ever seen. Was probably the 2018 College football championship with Alabama and Georgia could just because everything that went into it and how Alabama was down and he couldn't get anything and then they make the switch to two and then it goes over time. And then he gets sacked for 16 yards in its second in 26. They have to score a touchdown, and he scores it without like talks to save it, and he's like, Hey, This thing you know, it's that or it's probably Game seven of the world serious just being at a game seven and to see something that took over 100 years. Tio happen happen is big, so it's probably it's one of the greatest games ever played. Exactly. Yes, so those were probably like that's probably the best college football game I've ever seen. And then probably the best baseball game. Remember? What do you do You believe that? Someone in the twin Channel said. This is a depressing conversation..

"Did your old sports drink and switch body armor? Got it right here? I know Is that your this's the studio about you know, there was there Was there were coming, afraid it's not mine. I didn't bring it from home, but they're a couple of the fridge here. This is the orange Clementine's body. Armor light. That's my family. Only 2 G sugar. No added sugars like you mentioned here, and I'm looking at the nutrition facts right here. These are facts, people. Max. It's got 70% of her vitamin C for the day. It's delicious 200% of your vitamin B That's like two daysworth of vitamin B and B 12 2 daysworth right here in this In one bottle. Yes. Well, yes, we get it. Yeah. Delicious. Drink it right now. Because we're golfing tomorrow, and I'm going to bring in a number. Of course you aren't taking that one. I'm taking Who's ever this left it in the fridge. It's mine now. All right. There you go. Something the French this words. Oh, update is powered by body armour. Let me ask you this about Kyle Hendricks we saw in the month of August. He lost three straight games against the Cardinals, The White Sox and the Reds. It was almost a you know, three straight starts. He didn't pitch well. He was giving up a lot of hits. Lot of earned runs on things were going in the wrong direction. In the month of September. Kyle Hendricks has gotten back on the right track. He has three straight wins. Ah, last time out. 17 2 3rd innings pitch, giving up six hits, two runs on Ly one home run two home runs He's given up in this month, We had seven strikeouts. And he threw 106 pitches, so he's going deep in the games. He went eight against the Cardinals on September the seventh, and so when we look at Carl Hendrix, who's on the mound tonight against the Twins, Has he turned it around? Are you confident in Carl Hendrix as your number two for the Chicago Cubs now hang towards the playoffs and was that little trip up in the middle of this short season? In August. The three game losing streak just kind of a bitch. A bad run for him, And now he's on on the right path. I think so, You know, if you talk to Kyle Hendricks, he's one of the smartest guys in the room. And I don't mean that in like a like a bad way. I don't mean like he's not like mean about it. He's a student of the game. He studies his craft, so and I think it's very easy to for pitchers to find especially him because he's done it before. Find out what little hitch he's got going on in his mechanics. And, like Jessie was on yesterday, talking about how Jon Lester needed to figure out that he was going in his in his delivery. He was going from from 10 to 4 instead of going from like 11 to 5, you know, so he needed to figure that out. Like so, Hendrix. You know, he can watch himself pitch in these video sessions figure out what that little mechanic thing is and fix it. And hopefully that's what the issue was for those couple games where he, you know, mess. What? He didn't have good outings, and now you need him going into the playoffs because in these three game sets for the wild card, Siri's You hope that you Darvish Khun, Go as your one. And then Hendrix can go is your two and then if you need to get to a three hopefully Jon Lester has figured something out and can give you a you know a start if you need it, if you if it goes to three games, so I think that I think he has figured out because I think he's capable of doing it. You know, he's not just going to throw this as hard as I can. He is not just, you know, trying to throw 100 miles an hour and hope that his fastball beats everybody. He's more of that. The comparison is always Greg Maddux. You know, like he's nibbling at the strike zone, using a lot of his defense, a lot of the defense in his outing, so I feel like he's the guy. On the staff that could pinpoint what is wrong and fix it. The quickest Kyle Hendricks, tonight's starter for the Cubs, is to know with the 1.66 E R. A In three starts in this month, striking out 17 batters and walking two. He has walked six batters in 65 2 3rd innings pitched this season. Good for a national league best and a 0.82 walks per nine innings. So you're right, Abdullah, because the fact that you don't he doesn't walk anyone, so it keeps traffic off the base pads. I know he gave up, boy what I say seven or eight hits his last outing, but you know the ability to Get guys to swing and miss and to ground out and to kind of just move the game along without giving free passes to the opposition, I think is key here, and I think I think you're right. I think he has figured it out. And I think it gives the Cubs a lethal 12 punch heading into the playoffs. Now, what do you do for the third person in that rotation when you're going getting into a playoff, Siri's It's tough because Jon Lester at points this year has been really bad. He's also been decent. So like, and we've seen Alk Mills give you a no hitter, but also we've seen him struggle, eh? So there's a lot to kind of look at with the Chicago Cubs and they're pitching rotation as we head towards the playoffs, two socks and reds. The Reds lead one. Nothing Casiano say home run to left. In the bottom of the first. So the Reds lead one. Nothing over the Sox Stephen Elmer's here on ESPN 1000. What's up, Steve? Hey, guys, You know, one of the things that we're talking about Hundreds have to keep in mind is on the low vs at home. He had an incredible run Wrigley Field over the last few years. And the last I know, least starts talking about what he's done. Really Well, Were it Wrigley Field Now, if we see him, have AH, Couple of really good start. Down the stretch here away from you feel I feel really good about that, because You know, he struggled in places like Cincinnati. Where you think? Oh, man, he had a Glock there really have pretty good outing and no, no, no, no, he struggled. And so you know, that's one of the factors. But when you talk about the third picture in a rotation in the playoffs And I'll tell you what Mills Forget about the no hitter. I mean, obviously, that was outstanding, but start before that was also outstanding, and he's made adjustments. The league adjusted to him after the first couple of games, where he was the first game of the season is outstanding. Mentally adjusted till they started working from the changeup and and they were hit him pretty good, and now he's adjusted back, and he's thrown more fastballs, more breaking balls. And he hated having a lot more successful. Obviously, last couple starts, so I really like him and 10, Lester. I mean, it was nice of him. Have a good outing. You know, the one before last, especially good. But I just don't..

"Towards the playoffs because you need if the bats are going to struggle. You need your pitching? Yes, well, Evan, listen 13 and three to start the year off a big reason toe. Why That was was because of how good the starting pitching was to get things going. Absolutely, especially with this bullpen, too, because you can't rely on who's coming out of the bullpen unless it's Jeffers like you can't Count on Kimble. You can't count on any of these guys to hold a lead for you. So you need quality starts out of your pitching staff, and it started like you said with the great pitching run the beginning this season. It all started with Carl Hendrix comes out for the first game and goes complete game and you're like, okay. And then the the starting pitching was great. Throughout that run, And then you started to see guys taper off a little bit. You, Darvish. You know he They lost that game, but he was really on ly bad for like four batters. He walked three guys and gave up a home run. And that and the problem was the bats weren't there. Everything needs to come together. For a baseball team at the same time for them to make a world Siri's run. And I'm not confident that that will be ableto happen for the Cubs this season. I'm much more confident that that'll happen for the White Sox fans. What are your concerns with this team? And also, as you look forward to this weekend against the Brewers? What are you looking for the Cubs to accomplish. Are you looking for? Concerns to stay? Hi. Are you looking for Jon Lester Do pitch really well tonight, is it? Hopefully Rizzo and Brian in the rest of the lineup to start toe? Wake up, We will take your cup skulls coming up next 3123323776 from Wrigley.

"Tonight. Yeah, Yeah, they're getting the others breaking NFL news. Von Miller might be out for the year. Yeah, they're talking about that. They're saying seize get degrees. Yeah, they do. I graduated. Graduated just fine. And you know who accepted me? Columbia College, actually, first College Chicago. What himself? Luke? Yeah. Um, I I socks dollars Definitely being disrespected, right? And good night, Fay. Thanks for calling. She's going to bed. Oh, she's logging off. It's pretty early. I mean, logging off the one here in Chicago, but she's logging off. I don't know what to tell You. All right. This Anthony Rizzo up. There's hydrated by body armor. Rizzo yesterday went Oh, for four. But he did have an R B. I sack fly to center in the bomb of a third. Tio. Take the score two to nothing. Cubs with the lead yesterday. They go on to win the game five, the one over the Cardinals Rizzo in the lineup tonight, playing first for the Chicago Cubs. Body armor with potassium packed electrolytes. No artificial sweeteners, flavors or dies. Did your old sports drink and switch body armor you know I was doing on Saturday. Chris was golfing 36 holes was crushing beers was crushing body armors. I was stricken body armor. It was delicious was a little warm out. I needed somebody on him, so I went sweating. Nothing but beer, and I needed something to rehydrate and replenish for the 2nd 18. Right right. That body armor, the tangerine flavor that coconut flavor had to double up. I don't think that it's in the copy here for body armor to suggest that they are the drink of the 2nd 18. But it's the way I started my day. Absolutely. And then I feel you know, it's a long weekend is feeling a little dehydrated Head so that electrolyte water which is good, too, comes in a leader. A leader of water. I know hydrates you right up. Yes, I will. Did. I'm not telling you will And I did. I know it's just the way that yes, I agree. That's what yes, it's delicious. I enjoy. It s O The Rizzo up. They'd brought to you by body armor. Switch body. Armor, blankets. Dollar here with you on the baseball show. It's time for Stat of the night. Giambi's on base percentage before seven stat off the night. Damon's on base 24 made was to nine on the baseball show. Add that up. You get When I put 10 90 on ESPN 1000 did you really say all hydrate you right up? Yeah. What's wrong with that? What is going on today? The hydrate you right up. All right tonight. Stat of the night. Here on the baseball show is 38. You know why the number tonight is 38. Well, let's go to the Cubs game yesterday and Kyle Hendricks on the 30 Men on base. No double. Carl Hendrix wins yesterday. He's now 54 on the season. He through eight innings, seven hits, one run one earned. No walks, four strikeouts. His E. R. A is now three point for one on the season. Carl Hendrix. This start marks the 38th consecutive start in which Kyle Hendricks finished With two or fewer walks, establishing a Cubs franchise record. So Kyle Hendricks gets our stab the night tonight with his 38th consecutive start. With fewer In two Or less walks in concept. Hendrix is a great picture. He's a super nice guy. I think that you know, I hope he's turning around from this corner. I think that you know the when he When he cashed in with the Cubs. I feel like the Cubs will end up getting a good deal out of that because I think he's that He's a great If he easily be your number one If you Darvish wasn't pitching this well, I mean, like Yu Darvish pitching this well and Hendrix coming in and being your number two is sets them up. Well, now if Lester could get his blank together You have three great starters right there, And I think that way it would really help. The pressure's on this offense a lot. The problem is You're number three years, John. Let's you number three starter hasn't been able to put together Ah, good quality outing in How many games Well in with Kyle Hendricks specifically here in the month of September. OK, now we get to Outings back to back against the Pirates and against the Cardinals were now things are going in the right direction we saw in August, where he had three consecutive losses. Cardinals socks, Red's where he wasn't He didn't look right. And especially with the fiber and runs against the Reds on Friday of the 28th of August. I mean, it seemed as if he was going the wrong direction, and we've kind of seen Pull both sides of the coin from Carl Hendrix is here. He started off this season really well going nine innings right, pitching the entire game. A complete game to start the next time out. Six earned runs right and you get a couple of good performances at the start of August than three straight. They're bad. Now he's getting September off to the right foot. Hopefully for Cup fans, this can continue on this path towards the playoffs. Yeah, Absolutely, because I think you're going to need him. Assuming the Cubs make the playoffs and don't lose every Siri's from here on out. You're going to need him. Because if you can't count on Jon Lester, it's going to be you. Darvish. Kyle Hendricks. Ah, you can't count on out Mills. Who knows when Jose Quintana is going to be coming back, so, Yeah. You need him. You absolutely need him. So tonight for the Chicago Cubs. Alk Mills is on the mound, the right hander for the Cubs. He's three and three with a 5.50 IRA against the Reds, who the Cubs have had other way with Cincinnati to this point the season but again since the name playing a little bit better baseball than they were Earlier in the year when the Cubs face him. Well, It'll be interesting to see how this kind of Siri's plays out in, obviously, for Cub fans. You need more from Alec Mills, especially tonight. Yeah, And I think you're with Hayward out of the lineup. You're going to need more offense somewhere. He's still having that shortness of breath issue is not covert related, but they're keeping him out of the lineup. He's still day today. So you need your offense from somewhere you need. You know, Rizzo's got to put together some good at bats, a contrary cistern to find it. Javi needs to watch some video or something. On and hopefully they can figure it out. Because this is a team that looks like a quick out of the playoffs right now. Blocking Abdullah here with you. And what I'm a White Sox fan looking forward to the opportunity this week 30 games against the Twins to make a statement. I think the opportunity is there for the socks to actually do some damage this year, and I get it that they only have a couple of really good starting pitchers, And once you get into a playoff, Siri's that's going to be a question. Mark. I totally understand that. I think the lineup's ready, though. For the Cubs. This is like you said of Dollar, the same old song and dance that we've seen for the last couple of seasons. Some days. The bat's air hot other days. They can't scratch together any runs. Then you have Yu Darvish pitching well, but now Carl Hendrix is starting to some. Jon Lester. What do you get from him? There's a whole bunch of different Also Tyler Chatwood injured. Right. There's a whole bunch of different question marks. Craig Kimbrel. I mean, what did Why's he left out there Over the weekend? It is because I remember the manager David Ross, He fixed everything right, Hazel, Too close to the scene. There is the one that wins scouted Kimbrel. Maybe he's giving him too much. Wrote. "For the bigger the Dong song, but that's okay. We got a zai dingers as I wonder every hour. Yes, like I'm so easy to entertain. You know, I'm not going to take my shirt off today. So I figured maybe what we'll do is we'll just play some funny music. And if you don't like it, I don't know. I'm kind of here to make myself laugh. I guess my question to that is why are you already saying notice things? Who knows what the next three hours are going to be one if I'm gonna tell you the shirt off, so I could get you that I'm not in the place That was that was something that just occurred. That was what we call that a business Now that's Uh damn, I forget the word for it. Now you're watching me go through a senior moment, right As I push my head a lot better with his shirt off. Looks like a beautiful day in Cleveland. Unless you're unless your Sox fan and you're watching dogs leave the building. Why don't give me no need to hear the break. But that was good. And I thank you. Chris is just a little taste of evergreen is that evergreen is the word. I'm looking for it? No, maybe not, like just kind of spur of the moment. Whatever the case may be, I'm looking at my major league baseball standings right now. And I see your Chicago White Sox at 19 and 12. Today they host the Kansas City Royals. I'm gonna have Definitive gambling advice for you before we get out of here today, and it has a lot to do with guys hitting dingers. So they sit in 19 and 12 tied with the Cleveland Indians half game behind the Twins. Their playoff possibility right now projection. It's 97.6% likely, according to ESPN that the Chicago White Sox will play in the postseason. Your Chicago Cubs are 18 and 12 there at the exact halfway point. Of a 60 game seats. Their playoff. The possibility of them getting to the post season. I know you. Are you looking at distant or not? Do you think it's higher or lower than the white socks right now? White Sox 1912 cubs are 18 and 12 white socks are tied with Cleveland. A half game back of the Twins in the NL are the ale Central theme. Chicago Cubs are 18 and 12 atop the N L. Central with a three game league. What I just gave you the White Sox 97.6% likelihood they're going to get to the postseason. Where do you believe the Cubs are and do you believe it'll be higher or lower? I think the Cubs are below and I think they're in 95%. Okay? Are you looking at this? Abdullah? I think they're higher because they're three games up and the rest of division is crap. Give me a percentage 90. What was the white 97 6 chicks think they're 98.4 Chris Black would be correct. The Chicago Cubs have a 96.1% chance of getting to the postseason, according to ESPN. And I think, Chris, I'll turn it over to you because I you gave me an interesting Factoids a little bit earlier, which I know that you wanted to say for the always entertaining show, which you can catch a six o'clock with black and dollar figured it's Friday. I'm not. I'm not really prepared for the show, so I would just steal some of your material, but I don't know It's not stealing. This is what I'm kind of concerned about today in the Chicago sports seen Kyle Hendricks is on the mound tonight for the Cubs. At the Red's right. 6 10 start just coming off a doubleheader sweep of the brewer. Yes, the Reds now find themselves I'm sorry to interrupt, but I got a little reservoir Reds buzz right now. There are only five back, okay? And and two things about that. Yesterday The Cubs were off and the Brewers lost two games. And the Cardinals lost two games. Yesterday s a pretty good day for the Chicago Cubs yesterday. Great day. Second place in the NL Central is Theseus ain't Louis Cardinals that 11 11 there? Three games. And so Colin jerks on the mound tonight. And this is important because facing one of the plus armed throwers from the Cincinnati Reds, not one of the fire ballers that normally take the bomb was good aces of the staff Hendrix his last two starts to losses hasn't been great. This is an important night tonight for Kyle Hendricks, also important for the Cubs this weekend because over the course of last week, they're two and four. Like this last week since last Friday, when we were doing this show the Cubs have gone two and four over the course of the last seven days. Not very good. Right, Esso. I went back and looked over the course of the last 15 games. The Cubs are six and nine. Before they lost that game. Tio kind of get to that 0.6 and nine They lost the Brewers the day before they want that day. The Cubs were 13 and three. Remember those days when they're writing Hi, look best team in baseball team in baseball, but I just want to interject this. I was still asking the question just how damn good they are exactly how good are there, And that's the question here because they started the season off 13 3. Over the course of the last 15 games. They're six and nine. To dramatically different kind of parts of the season. Right the first half of this 30 games schedule. They were awesome, won the best teams in baseball over the course of last 15 games, though They have really struggled and we've seen the offense start to slump like it has in years past. We've seen the starting pitching, which was number one in baseball when they were off on the 13th and three start. Kind of start to come back to reality, And we know that the bullpen has issues so wanted you said it like that's where this conversation leads as we head into this weekend against the Reds with Carl Hendrix on the mound after losing two consecutive starts. Who is this team? And what do you expect from them, even though they have a 96% chance to make the play offs in the short season, What do you actually expect from this Cubs team? Are they the team that went three and 13 to start the season?.

"Sylvia, How you guys doing after a late night of Blackhawks hockey? What's up thinking? Coffee it like 8 30 and I do that. You can do that. Oh, yeah, I did it to last night and you fall right asleep. You're like an angel. I fell asleep. I mean, I got other things to help me sleep. You know, I got imprisoned downers rights of I don't know every night. Good for you. Hey, York. My edible day is coming up Friday. So after my treatment is the day that I usually 25 milligrams of inedible, which is it is a lot. I know that but I like I've got to get to sleep because somebody three roids are nuts. And then, like the last time I did it, I was watching Kyle Hendricks pitch. And it was so crazy, so I'm just going to rinse and repeat. I like that. You have an edible day. It's beautiful. I I still don't love it where I don't get the same joy out of that that I do of alcohol buzz. But I've been without alcohol now for, like, four months or whatever it is, and I need something to put me to sleep. So, look, if you go if it includes a little bit of a trip, while Carl Hendrix is is throwing on opening day, fine. I did not go to the coffee last night Sylvie during the Hawks game, but I'll admit that I was a little more tired than expected. I was drifting off a little bit in the third period on the couch and it basically shut I had plans. I was DVR ing hard knocks Los Angeles last night, and I was gonna try and like zip through it last night after the Hawks game wrapped up, But it was just It was just like I can't. I can't do it. And you know what would have helped had the Hawks one. I think I would have a little bit of an adrenaline rush and I had been able to power through it. What? Oh, no. After that performance last night, the Hawks put me to sleep. Yeah, especially because you had some hope going into the third period and was too down to Zeb. Get that goal and then you're like, Okay. All right. You know they didn't allow a goal right at the end of the second period. What can you do, and it was just nothing worse than staying up late for a game. And not getting the good result, you know, and seeing a crap third period like we watched. Yeah, no, no, Absolutely. And I think for me the reality was starting to set in again that what last night proved is that Vegas is a really good team. In my opinion, there's three teams in the Western Conference along, You know you've got the nights the avalanche of the blues, that kind of head and shoulders above the rest. And so even though the Hawks gave their fan base, something to get really excited about with a win over the Oilers, the reality is now This is truly Stanley Cup playoff action that you're in. And it's going to be a much tougher uphill sled. Well, I think that You because the lottery was Monday. You know, you kind of don't you don't have the regret of the well, they probably should have just gone into the lottery because they could have that number one pick. At the same time, you see how far away they are from a Stanley Cup contending team after yesterday's third period was like, Okay, Well, maybe we should have pump the brakes on all that Edmondson beating that they did last week. Yuriko, are you painting? Hope it all. I mean, do they? Do you watch that and say no chance or well, I wouldn't say no chance, but they've certainly got to play a lot better, a wind scoring one goal and if Cory Crawford is going to flood Fox and just wave at him, Then they don't have much of a chance. They've got to play better on all sides. Tiu have themselves legitimate chance, but no, I think I think they got a chance. I've got him losing in six. I still think they're gonna find a way to win two games. Yeah, that's that's how I feel. I feel like this is the sport where in one period the game, Khun Totally flip. We see it all the time with the Hawks when they were great, were dominated period And then the next period. You know, the blues look like they're dominating it. So game the game. I still think that a lot that they've got with Crawford don't second guess, Crawford, right? They've got a lot of guys who can who can turn it around. And I am going to sell Abdullah some hope So here's what happens. You know, they were down 3 to 1 against the Nashville predators, and they came back and end up winning that series 4 to 3. They've gone to Game sevens in conference finals. It's not like they were. Oh, my God, so much better than the other team They played. They were just good enough to get by. And then they wanted to Stanley Cup when they got there. The great thing about the Hawks soon with the three Stanley Cups. They won all three right right when they were doing there. Losing. They were doing it before they ever got to the Stanley Cup. So three for three in Stanley Cup finals, But boy, they've had some disappointing losses. Also. Arizona you have the year they lost to one of the Los Angeles teams. When the couple of years it just crushing credit. Remember Vancouver when they were down? 03 And then they rallied back to force a game seven and I believe that went toe over time. And they didn't Sharpie of like a prime opportunity in one of the overtime. You know what I That sounds very familiar. Sylvie. I can't Put my finger on it, but first round. Yeah. Yeah, that sounds very familiar. Think you're accurate? Look, don't don't Don't second guess my memory here. You know, cat may do it, and you may do it in a in a weird way, But I'm not playing the chemo. But I still remember all that. I stayed up waiting for these. I am by no means second guessing any any chemo brain that you're bringing us here? I just I personally can't confirm it, so I'm not gonna lie sometimes like outside of big goal game winning goals for the Hawks. Sometimes they kind of all like I remember vividly the Los Angeles Kings, you know? Ah, limiting the Hawks from the Western Conference finals in Game 7 14 was that one that one was probably the hardest. But outside of that I have no prime chances in game sevens. I don't always remember those might be more of a T H C brain than anything at this point. No night. By the way, my guy texted me. 25 milligrams information. Mark Question. We thought you were going to cut that into 44 chunks. Maybe even five chunks That's supposed to last. You so no idea. Yeah. Look, I got to get to sleep. So you can do kid. If I can erupt quickly. Jeff mentioned something before the break that he wasn't impressed. You're here this time You've decided to stay with cross. Doc. You're not out the door, handle things. Usually, Abdullah starts cleaning, bumping in and cleaning off everything before I could even do anything. So I let him get it. Get it over. Yes. But Jeff made a comment that Charlie Blackmon hitting 400 right now basically is no big deal for him. He's hitting 500 now. But the fact that he could hit 460 game season was no big deal, and some people on Twitter are taking offensive that job. If he hits for 100 in a 60 game season. People are going to give him some type of radical Adric, Jane's says. These are the seven players that have hit 400 the 1st 60 games this season since Ted Williams did it. Chippers. Tony Gwynn, Larry Walker, Ponyo, Rod Crew, Hank Aaron and Ted Williams again. I'm in that I'm in that twitch Channel lot, And I'm not trying Tio call people out. But I will call out Rodrick Janes is a big well, actually, guy on twitch Big Well, actually got the one great listener with them. I hope you will actually is us well over the entire time. The second inning is Carl Hendrix is on the mound for the Cubs, so we'll keep you abreast of those two games and other scores throughout our show here on the baseball show on ESPN. 1000 so Why are the white socks off to a slow start? Well, once again, it comes down to either offense or defense or a little bit of both. So the Sox loss of double header to the Indians yesterday at Progressive Field, and if you're a Sox fan, cover your ears. The starting rotation, closed its first turn with a 12.6 for IRA eight walks in nine strikeouts coming into the night's game against the Indians. They were outscored 13 the one in first inning games thing about that You got off to a bad start and 13 toe won in the first inning of games, so that's not great. And the Sox starters went three and 2/3 5 and 1/3 2 3rd of an inning, two and 1/3 innings and three and 1/3. The last five starts. That's among those guys are. Aces are supposed to be future races like Giolito and Lopez and cease and Roden. And now you come to find out in today's news that not only is Lopez yesterday put on the isle but also Lambert from The bullpen also on the injured list because of a forearm strength, so I got off to a really good start for the White Sox, and I know yesterday when we were introducing to you the starting lineup for the White Sox for Game two We come to find out that Nicky Delmonico and gave her to was the cleanup hitter for the White Sox. Ah, lot of potent offense, at least on paper for the White Sox. But yet that somehow Nicky Delmonico was The cleanup hitter. Now in today's lineup, it's Anderson Moncada hombre, you Grondahl is hitting cleanup He played in game one off the doubleheader yesterday, did not play in Game two. Incarnates Yoon the D H. Yemen knows the leftfielder Robert the centerfielder Garcia than angle Would you lead on the mouth? "The home buying process with alone that fits your life. Rocket can Well, we started the show talking about. I think it's a matter of fact, we started the show talking about the A's and the Angels, who have Ah, who were the 1st 2 teams applying this extra inning new format here? With Rana, starting on second base. Didn't matter for the Angels. As the guy was on, I go look at the box score exactly, but they had always old town, Otani was put on second base to start. The top half of the 10th inning. He got caught in a rundown on a fielder's choice and he was thrown out and he's got out of the inning. After that, and Annie is themselves with runner on second basis, Arthuis Bottom half of the 10th inning ended up having the bases loaded before Matt Olsen hit a walk off Grand Slams a little bit of history there with the new rules being put into play any A's winning over the Angels in their opening game. Of the season. You'll ground around Major League baseball and you could go over all the scores, and it's just great to have a full slate of games in New York. You have the Mets taking care of the Braves and their home opener, another dominant performance from Jacob deGrom. You want assessment and another, you know, inept performance from the Metsoffense when the ground starts, But yet you want assessment is hitting a home run and it Wendy is closing out the game. And that's when I want nothing. Yankees the other night on Thursday, I hate that they have the off they get. Why But you try to get ramped up for baseball season. You get the Yankees opening against the nationals. The game gets rained out after five innings, and they're off the next day. I'm starved for some more baseball Mets were done around 77 30. I wanted to sit back and watch the Yankees, Little the Cubbies and the brew crew. As Carl Hendrix was terrific in that game against Milwaukee. For the Cubs in Chicago at Wrigley Field. Hundreds going the distance, I think was a three hit complete game shutout. Anyway. Baseball's back and Yeah, I could do without probably the cardboard cut outs. I get why they have it. That's fine. You know, the fans want it there and teams going to make a little money. It looks like it's filled in a little bit. It's just weird to may. I don't mind the Crowd noise, the pumped in crowd noise. I think they've gotta get to a point where they perfected when to hit. What and when. To Jack up the sounds and all that stuff, But I don't mind the fake crowd noise in If you forget about where the broadcasters of broadcasting from, you know, for road games, they're not in the ballpark. For the home games. They're separated in the booth is not like the two or three people who were calling the game altogether. If you forget about that, and you Forget about there not being any fans. That's why I think the cardboard cutout is weird. I'm excited. See Fox. I'm assuming going to see that tonight on Fox with the national game with the Yankees and the Nets. A little bit later on this evening, seven o'clock on Fox. I'm assuming we'll see the virtual fans curious to see how that looks because I think the empty seats is bad. The cardboard cut outs are bad, but maybe the virtual fans make it feel better. Because mentally if you see something like that, you just you mean not at the ball park over at the park, and there's no atmosphere there. That's one thing. But if you're watching from home when you hear all the sounds, I'll tell you listening on the radio, which I did the other night. To the Yankees broadcast for the first several innings. Listen, Anu, John strolling and Susan Woman on the Fan in New York. Call the Yanks, and that's It sounded aside from, you know them referencing several times that they're doing the game from Yankee Stadium. Even though the game is being played in Washington, it sounded normal with the crowd noise in the background. It just sounded like Baseball on the radio. Watching it. The difference is you see the empty seats and it's just a bizarre feel. And even if you know if you watch says, but is it the home run that he did for the Mets? You You see, there's no crowd to react to it. It was It was weird. But it's good that baseball back in Aside from that. The play on the field. Is relatively UN impacted. Heart. There's some social distancing and there's some different rules and you see the masks. The masses have become part of the norm. Now, though, it's almost noon and we've gotten used to that. So I made the masks are AH, big deal When initials thank you want. We're gonna watch baseball. These guys be wearing masks on the field now has become so normal that You don't even really think about that. And while you're watching the games, you're just watching baseball games take place. I'm assuming he's going to be the same with the MBA, which gets started on Thursday cannot wait for that. Be the same one hockey, which is going to take place over the course of next weekend. We get under way with that. And you got no football now on the rising as they have come to an agreement, too. Get to training camp on time. The players Association and league have come to terms on Arnold. They've officially signed, but they've agreed On the rules for this upcoming season. And everything that's going to put in place whether it's the safety and health protocols or we talked about the no preseason games being schedule but Roger Goodell, saying in a statement that The season is going to start on time as scheduled players reports training camp and then they're gonna have a they expect a full 2020 season..

"Jonathan Hood on ESPN 1000 ESPN Chicago After we're just days away from Major League Baseball for Real Cubs Sox. Everything else around Major League Baseball covers the Cubs and everything else around the big leagues. Jesse Rogers. My friend joins me here on ESPN 1000 in the ESPN. Chicago out. Hello, Jess. Good evening. J Hood. What's up? Well, you know what's up right around the corner, Little cubs, little white socks. Everything else. MLB. I'll ask you this. What stands out most about what you've seen so far in these summer camps. You've been with a few of these here at Wrigley Field. What do you What do you like most About 2020 Cubs baseball. Yeah, very specifically Kyle Hendricks, who was named the opening day starter. He looks fantastic. He kind always does in the spring. And this is, you know, obviously the summer version of spring training because he doesn't So hard. It doesn't take him forever to get ready. You know, he just he just sharp. He's just sharp, and he looks that way. So I like the fact he's getting the opening night day nod Could've been Darvish. They've been working at the same time, same days facing each other in scrimmages, but they went with Kyle Hendricks. He just seems a bit more stretched out. I would not be surprised if he through six innings in his first started season. I don't think a lot of starting pitchers will do that. But he could. He's gonna throw up too. You know, 85 to 185 next time out against the White Sox on Sunday, so and then, and then he could get to 100 on opening day against the Brewers. So I I like Carl Hendrix. And actually, I mean, I've been impressed at what's going on at the plate. I thought hitters would be way behind the pictures will secure terraces locked in Tarantini looks good. There's been a lot of good at that. You know, it's it's It's meaningless in some ways, but I thought they'd be way behind. I thought there'd be strikeout school Lauren and poor contact against their own pictures. But Cubs hitters have looked decent. So we'll see if that translates come Friday against the Brewers. But that catching combo really stands out. I really like them and obviously with the D H. That is an advantage. You can get carrot eating controllers in the lineup at the same time. You know for those who've never been to a practice of any kind when it's when you're taking on, you know, like for the Bears the often sticks on the defense we've seen this year, with the Cubs and White Sox, taking on one another in these inter squad games. How does a manager usually evaluate because we're seeing some things here? Obviously, offensively where the ball is up in the air, and things were working well for the Cubs, the other side. You know that there's some defensive gems here and there. I wonder how Ross is able to evaluate all of that, when he sees it out there with some players make mistakes or if the ball goes out of the ballpark. I think it's the same thing as he would do in the Cactus League as much as he can. I mean, you're still facing major leaguers. It's not like they brought a minor league team and you are facing you. Darvish who are facing Jon Lester, you're facing Kyle Hendricks. The result is still going to be a of the major league variety, right. It's not water down in any aspect for either sight. I mean, I don't I don't you know, a guy makes a diamond catch. Our guy doesn't I don't think it's going to be made a big deal. I think it's about reps for everybody in the field at the plate on the mound, so As long as there Getting their reps. I don't think David Ross is doing a lot of evaluation. I think you evaluate pictures. Do they look strong? Can they be stretched out? I mean that that's important to start the season. How long can a pitcher go? Can't reliever go to winnings instead of one can relieve her? Go back to back. Those are all Sort of things David Ross has to evaluate. That's not easy in a three week stretch, but other than that, he Kanae Canal. You ate his hitters pretty much like he would in February or March because he is they are facing major league pitching. You broke the news about Hendrix as you mentioned as opening day that you had Darvish after that anything else was after that. I mean between those. Oh, I mean, I think it's obvious it's going to be Lester Chat water chat with Lester Lester is not ready for some reason, but man, they better get ready because they don't have a lot of pitching behind it. So unclear when it will use 1/5 starter or do a bullpen day out Mills. They don't have many guys that can do what he does have a couple, but he's going to be that swing man, which could be a very important role. But if he's starting, you can't do that Swing rolls. So it is a little interesting after Darvish in Hendrix, obviously Lester, like I said, is there And that one as well. But nothing's written in stone after those couple top guys, those of your those your horses this year. I think Lester can get there. He's just not not there yet. Big guy takes a little bit longer to get there, but I would expect he would start Game three or four. Jesse Rogers covers the Cubs eventually baseball for ESPN dot com. He joins me Jonathan Hood on under the hood on ESPN. 1000 the ESPN Chicago Apt. You know, it's as they grow up before our very eyes. Jesse Rizzo and bright are interesting to listen to. I heard that zoom call with Rizzo very thoughtful, laid out his thoughts about covert 19 and major league baseball talking about his situation. It started for me with Bryant with him him dissing ST Louis. And then, of course, his contract situation. I like that. The 22 of the pillars of the cubs are as outspoken as they are. Because you need that. That sounds like leadership to me when I hear them with their long form thoughts. Yeah, I think you're right and especially right about raised on. Both have evolved over the years in those roles. It came a little easier and quicker for Rizzo. He was almost forced into that role back and, you know 13 14 15. Obviously, when they got Lester it help. But as far as the position players are concerned, we know that Rizzo's kind of been the captain all along here, and he has been more outspoken in recent years. Brian. It's really been a transformation. I mean, I guess it was a couple of years ago. It started in spring training, He seems most outspoken in spring and summer camp in this case. Once the season gets going, Chris kind of You quiet down, but you know you got it goes into his own little baseball world where he's just trying to hit the ball, obviously, but in spring training these last couple years, he's definitely been more outspoken and as he's grown into this Sort of player that he is union reptile..

"Here for the MLB. No for Well, let's put money in your pocket first. Okay, let's start there. Because I got a chance to talk. Tio Matt Holt Peralta is a podcaster from abetting pros dot com and also has a syndicated radio show, pushing the odds. On Met helped us earlier today about the Cubs and socks if you're going to bet on the Cubs and White Sox hadiya handling, so we start first, with the white socks, white socks over at 31 a half. What? They've made a lot of good moves. They've added the only added on the payroll that spent more than your past. We've got a lot of young talent on that team win total of 31 a half. 31 to pick on the book that you're looking at it. I think you could take a flier on this team because of the young, talented because they're a little bit of an unknown. I don't mind bitten me over on them here and having kind of a break out because, as we know, last year, the nationals through 60 games, had won 27 games, then went on to win the World Series, but we just don't know what these teams are going to do it. I actually like the younger teams more than the veteran teams because I think young kids don't know any better like they was gonna come out play. It's baseball. They don't have families. Most of them don't have wives and one that don't have young Children at home that they're worried about trying to keep covert away. So I think the ignorance is bliss angle for the White Sox actually really nice and then get some pitching in some performances out of their starters. They're division is winnable, and they have a much easier scheduled and say the other team in Chicago and who they're going to face every day. So in the 60 game schedule, so I like the over 31 a half for Chicago this year, and I think they could be. I mean, look, I don't They're a playoff team, but I think they're definitely gonna be in the conversation in the division. All right. So we heard about the White Sox. What about the Cubs? What can we expect from the Cubs from a sports gambling standpoint? I'm not touching this team with a 10 foot pole for that very reason. We just laid out David Ross is a really big X factor. Look, it could work. And former players have stepped up and the Red Sox looked at Jason Varitek and teams have kind of kicked around the idea of bringing back guys who are catchers who really intelligent won championships. David Ross, obviously two time champion with the Red Sox, and with the Cubs and a guy whose beloved by fans and players alike. It's just really hard to go from the guy that you lean on for advice, but the guy's gonna be screaming at you and yelling at you. Attention you when I'm not playing well, so I look if I was the best that I'm not going to, I would take the 32 wins and go with the under with Jakob. I just don't know how that pitching staff going to develop. I just don't know that with that decision with how difficult it is. I like the Brewers a lot. The Cardinals are obviously going to be a very big problem. I just think the division is so difficulty you're gonna play so many of these games 60 in your own division that I think is going to be tough for the cops. And I don't blame team like Chicago or other teams that are trying to build towards 2021. Look at this and say, Hey, we're going to try out some different options and put onto the younger players and give them chances to step up and see what they could dio simply because this year is such a Washington a weird year, So I mean, I'm not betting it. But if I did, I bet the Cubs under All right, so just a little vice there to put some money in your pocket or Teo. Maybe spend a little money to see what you want to do with the Cubs and white socks there as we get a chance to find out his thoughts on that that Peralta Oh, so Jesse Rogers broke the story earlier this afternoon about Carl Hendrix is going to get his first opening day start off next Friday. Getting the nod over teammate Yu Darvish is going to be Hendrix Yu Darvish, and they were going to find out the rest and how that goes. It will be a chat would or will it be Jon Lester? We don't know yet, but at least we do know is Hendrix. Then Darvish want to start off the season for the Chicago Cubs? We are cracking open our MLB notebook right here. The baseball show on ESPN 1000 and the ESPN Chicago APP. So I don't know if you've noticed this, Eric, but we have had a lot of people complaining, and I don't know why to us at ML ESPN MLB show, but there have been a lot of people when we asked our question yesterday likes No, your thoughts of the cubs and socks and peoples like, Well, I don't know, because I can't see the cubs because I don't get the Marquis network And I'm a Xfinity Comcast person. It's I mean, I'm also expended e Comcast person. I can't see the Cubs either. So There's nothing else that we could do A ce Faras a show, but all of us together can be able to put pressure on the marquee network to try to get this worked out. I completely get the day in and day out. Complaining about not having their cubs on TV A like that. It's getting close. And as we read more in the quotes and everything coming out, it's it's all we keep getting back as we hope it's going to happen, so don't worry, it'll happen. We'll prove it like I don't want to miss my cards. I I lose. So I'm fine. But most of the Chicago and market right now I still doesn't get to watch the Cubs like I'm enjoying watching the White Sox. Exhibit a summer camp games and I'm going to catch the cup summer camp games and Cubs fans should get that opportunity. I'm catching up on my teams out for NBC Sports, but again, you know, I'm gonna have to figure out how I'm going to be able to watch the cup games. Kid. Most baseball show without the people watch the Cubs, so they try to figure that out. You on. Moncada is back with the White Sox after being diagnosed with covert 19 and he's out there now practicing because there's going to be a game at guaranteed great field tonight. And the lineups. Aaron, do I give the line up for practice Game? Said. Should I do that? The other squad line up? Yeah, like I mean, let's baseball it up. Okay. Well, I guess the baseball Shaw, just the home team. Will be Anderson, Robert Gray you in the lineup, followed by incarnation on Given hasn't Grondahl Zara cut Bert and Delmonico with cease being the starting pitcher? The away team will be medical Collins McCann Bon for he saw great throw from him over from third base over there who was playing third base tonight mended get short. Armor cities in left field, Musavi and right Adam Angle, the center fielder and Rodan will be starting..

"Sharma from the athletic. He covers baseball for them last week, and we asked Zat of that very question. That's not an easy one to answer. Because you can just say you know baseball in a random sport in general, right? Small sample sizes. Weird things can happen. I think if we're just talking about let's look a shorter season. The makeup of the teams, I would say a kind of It may benefit the cups in the sense that they have a veteran pitching staff. And a longer season could drain on them. I also think there could be counter to that, in the sense that it's an older pitching staff. Are they going to be properly ramped up and then you could go back and forth, debating myself on this by saying, Well, these air veterans who know how to wrap themselves up there probably smarten up that they've already started a week or two ago. Kind of had night here that around the end of June beginning of July that we starting their their camps, So hopefully guy like Jon Lester, I'm in with seeing video. Darvish, already working in You know, making up new pitches, doing all sorts of stuff, So I think those things really Lester, the type of guy that you want to make sure that you know he's healthy. He's ready to go Those types of better in pictures that are kind of the downside of their careers. You don't want them to immediately come out and have AH, shoulder barking or I've heard that believe in 95 when they had the shortened spring. There were a lot of lower body injuries, a lot of muscle injury, so we may just be that maybe that's just gonna happen, and there's no way to really avoid that. But I have heard that the Cubs strengthen conditioning. They have a whole new, You know, people in charge of strength and conditioning and they're looking at they were researching months ago on how to kind of combat that if you have a shorter spring training are there ways to train now to kind of combat the issues that may pop up because of that shorter's That's a lot of Sharma. He joined us last week. Black dollar here on ESPN 1000 singing for David Kaplan. On ESPN 1000 and the ESPN Chicago APP If you look at the two starting pitching rotations, Northside Southside, which one do you think his favored heading into this? Which one would you rather have? Yu Darvish, Jon Lester, Carl Hendrix, Jose Quintana Tyler Chatwood, or if we go to the Southside Lucas Giolito Dallas cycle Lopez Cease Gonzalez, Who would you take with kopeck lurking in the background? Kopeck may be ready to go and inserted into that into that starting five To be honest, I would If Cho Pak is Rada the Let it fly. I feel like The White Sox are the team Tio take here. So in our post apocalyptic yl scenario here, where the two teams meet up for six for best of 61 Yes,.

"If you've ever seen performance Aquino three home runs yesterday Kyle Hendricks was terrible as the Chicago Cubs they lose ten to one once again struggling on the road in this series against the Reds down in Cincinnati how about this Paul Solman tweeted this yesterday I can't claim to be able to do the math and and figure this out Lester Hamels and Kyle Hendricks in their last three starts have combined for an eighteen point six three ERA in three starts they've given of twenty earned runs combine and only pitch like nine innings total between the three of them so you look at your guys and you look at Lester and handles that Hendrix and three guys that you want to be able to count on late in the season and you need you need a good road start and start to the road you need this you you won the first game against the the the Reds and you look to hopefully maybe with a road series for the first time since may seventeenth through the nineteen and now the best they can do is if they win today is split the series against the Reds and then they still have to continue this road trip crest they still have to go to pay to Philly after this they got out early on Monday and then they go to Pittsburgh so you need Lester to come back after his horrible outing but this is something Lester done has done with the colors for every year every year around this time for some reason Jon Lester has had a horrible outing where he only goes like two innings three innings so hopefully he can rebound against the Reds today in the cubs can split the series but ultimately the road struggles they've only been able to score after putting up twelve runs on Thursday against the Reds to start the series they've only been able to put up three runs total the last two games interesting thought on Jon Lester and how he should bounce back I understand we've seen the numbers that I usually mid summer to late summer the dog days Lester as a terrible outing they comes back in he's the Jon Lester we expect problem is each year of that he gets older as the picture each year you don't expect as much of a bounce back I'm wondering we're starting to see the decline as Lester as the number one ace on this team and that's where you look at today today's a huge game for Jon Lester for this team as well and I feel like we keep saying that throughout the summer that we get to these points where it's the team could take a turn right yeah all right you show up today Lester's good everything's okay that's not that big of a deal that you drop these games against the Reds in back to back days in Cincinnati but if Lester comes out today and still can't get it done and it looks like he isn't bouncing back the way we expected then that's going to be a problem Carl Hendrix yesterday suffered the worst loss since returning from a shore eyes sore shoulder on July second hundreds gave up seven runs in a season high twelve hits in only two and two thirds innings the shortest sense he went on the same he went the same distance against the Dodgers on June twenty seventh of last season so Kyle Hendricks not good you know this seven earned runs only throwing sixty seven pitches and not even getting to the third inning getting through the third inning the one thing I I said this on last week's show I feel like the cubs are at their best when Kyle Hendricks is pitching really well with them he he seems to me to be the neutralizer that win other things are not going well it Hendrix's going well usually that rates the ship for the team any why was the cubs the kind of get back to who they're supposed to be but when Hendrix's a mass that hurts what goes on with the entire rotation because I feel like Hendrix is the one guy who is very reliable in this group no I agree with you and you know last night he goes the two in two thirds innings with before that he got them when he gets went six innings before that seven innings and he had the before that he had a shoulder problem so I feel like this is this is for I feel like this is another situation where you have to wait and see what his next start is like maybe he just didn't have it so I I don't know the answer he said he felt fine didn't have any shoulder soreness or anything like that so this is just just one of these little it's baseball just not his night tonight it's just based Chris I'll have you know and I have you know I'll have you know despite being twenty two and thirty five on the road despite losing twenty four of their last thirty four games on yeah well there ten thirty one ten twenty four of the road in their last thirty four I go to ESPN dot com and click on the end of the page and click on the standings page a close I scroll down to the National League central and I look and they're still of a game and have fun on the brewers in two games up on the card this is still there still in first place they're in a crappy division luckily there in a crappy division and because of that they have a few games of wiggle room right now now I don't want to go back and like last year we point to own remember that series at the beginning of August when they lost three out of four to the Reds and yeah and the the the brewers came within a half game and then never look back or the cardinals got into is you know they had a chance to kind of separate themselves the division because you still have twenty four games on the road left this season in twenty one games at home this season now I'm not a math wizard Chris I would to Columbia College Columbia University you don't have to tell people that to say Columbia I went to Columbia.
