"I know that they believe that that's going to be the case. And Anthony Edwards said it the other night. Once we get the big fella back, we're going to be in great shape. But it's going to be a tall task for him to get up and run in in whatever it is, 15 games, ten games, and then for them to find some sort of synergy, but the way that it looks right now, it can't get much worse because it's not going great right now. And I do believe in Carl Anthony towns. I always have believed in him. I think that is three point shooting will help. I think that his overall offense will help. But it's going to be a breakneck pace to get that back. And then they're going to have to evaluate everything in the off season and take a look at where they're at. But we'll see, they believe in cat. And I think that he'll make a big difference when he's back out there, but we got to see him out there first. Yeah, his three point shooting will help. His three point shooting at center is a game birth. His three point shooting at power forward with Rudy Gobert on the floor is very, very helpful. And there's a big difference between those two things and then who is he guarding and how is he guarding force regarding 5s as he's guarding stretch force like all of those are big questions because Carl Anthony towns is for all the nice things we're saying for him has been a minus on defense his entire career, but the accepted idea he walked in like he's I thought he was going to be a good defender. He looked great in his first 20 games and it just hasn't, it hasn't played out by the way under discussed footnotes with the Jimmy Butler trade was Justin Patton and getting that 16th pick and doing nothing with it. But that's a discussion for another day and getting no picks when you send them to Philly. That was the big thing. We sent Jimmy Butler Philly. Yeah, you got, I mean, that's why I got mixed up for a second. They got Covington, sorry. And Jared. And his second round pick and it's like, how? Yeah. Terribly, terribly handled. This is too depressing. We have 19 games left to write the ship. Here we go. Coming back at some point TBD, you got a lot of rock talent, the west is open. One and a half games behind 5, let's go. After the 7th season, shoot for the stars. It's right there. You will be there to chronicle it all. Nobody covers this team like you. It's always a joy to talk to you. I hope to see you soon, my friend. Always great

"Not great, but better than what he's been before. Do you think that we, it's funny? One of our other articles of faith when we talk about the jazz in the last 5 years when we talk about Rudy Gobert, Rudy Gobert is a walking top 5 defense. And I think they were tenth and defensive efficiency, the jazz, this past season, Rudy paid a little bit of a price for that in some of the, you know, the postseason award voting and everything else. And whether that was about him eroding a little bit or maybe just as a team eroding a little bit. And you know, like they were, there's a reason you break up a tandem as they did this stage anyway. These things tend to have a lifespan in the NBA. 5 years is a long time in MBA franchise life. So I don't know how much of that is on him. Did you see any erosion at all in Rudy this past season? Do you agree with the idea that he's a walking top 5 defense? Is that what the Timberwolves will now be? Because offensively, clearly, they have a ton of firepower. And in fact, on day one, Anthony Edwards and Carl Anthony towns to say nothing of D'angelo Russell because again, I don't know where he'll end up if he'll stay or not, but just Anthony Edwards in towns alone, no offense to the jazz, but that's better than anything Rudy has been surrounded by in the course of his career. So what would you expect as you're trying to project out on July 7th, as we sit here? For Rudy fitting in their offense, for what, first of all, what Rudy does for the Timberwolves defense just by being Rudy in that, again, they've been at best an average defense. And as you noted, it took a lot of machinations just to create that last season. Are they a top 5 defense with them on day one? And you know, offensively, might they get a little more out of him than a jazz offense that, to your point, maybe didn't find creative ways or advantageous ways to use them at times? Yeah, I like both questions. So they've got a chance to be a top 5 defense. McDonald's has to play more. Edwards has to keep improving. I will remind you of something when Phoenix traded for Shaq and ended the 7 seconds or less Nash sons. I have a good friend who was on the staff. And I spoke to him. What are you guys doing? You have the sexiest team in sports, amongst amongst all sports, what are you doing? He said, this was after the season. We got worn down, having a double so often inside. And I think Mike, more than I spoke to D'antoni last month, then I asked him about this, but I will, next time I speak to him, they felt like we're just getting too tired because of all the scrambling revenue defensively, which is how Minnesota played last year. They elected a double, not because of lack of size cats huge because of how they played in the lack of good defensive players in the other spots. And young players. They won't have to do that this year and nearly as often. They can play more square, we call it, less gambling. They can choose the gamble, pick your spots, nothing wrong with that. You don't have to do it all the time because you've got that guy just like Robert Williams, so he made a Robert Williams every game pretty much and asked him to guard the other team's least threatening offensive player. Whoever that would be. Any position. So you can leave more frequently without worrying about your guy. We'll scramble around if you're a guy goes to the room whatever and protect everyone else in the paint. I think that's exactly what, if I'm Christian, you want who I know is a smart guy. I mean, he's probably watching a lot of Milwaukee Bucks tape, and he's watching a hell of a lot of Boston Celtics tape on okay. When you've got that guy, how best should we play? And you can watch tape a couple years ago when the jazz were the best defensive team. I think they got so good offensively. It kind of sucked away their identity. I'm a big believer in identity mattering in the postseason. It kind of helps glue you. We always talk about glue guys, identity can be glue also. And I think this is going to help Minnesota who can easily tip into the offensive side as a glue team, and I mean, look at Golden State, we all are enamored with their, we call it the cuisinart and Steph Curry has to have curry. But this is an identity first defense. Dynasty. And that's how they won, that's how they won this last series. They did it pragmatically when they realized that Boston is just way too big for us. They flooded the paint with bodies. They have no size. It was just bodies. And they clogged the lane and the Celtics were stubborn, and they kept trying to get the first, I call it the first box. The first 8 feet or so and around the rim. They just kept going to the first box and throwing up trash or turning them all over. But Golden State can pivot when that's their identity. They're not having to pull out of a hat. No, this is how they think of themselves. And I think Minnesota has just created a new identity for themselves and Rudy is the picture of that. As you should be. You wanted to see me miss swinton? Have you been hearing about the new government modernization efforts? He's a defense first guy. We can't account for chemistry and how guys click and gel and all these other cliches we use. So we can't know that. "I mean, you know, you could say that it's going to be hard to win at the highest levels with Carl Anthony towns defensively, but I mean, your Minnesota, what exactly is the alternative cap space you're missing? Quibble with Carl towns? Trade him? I'm the Minnesota Timberwolves. I've been in the playoffs once twice now since 2004. Carl Anthony town just 26. This supermax will take him through his age 32 season. Those are the exact years I want. The cap is going to rise once the new TV deal kicks in. It's going to keep rising. There is he a top ten player in the NBA, probably not, is he close? Maybe. Can he anchor a defense at center? It doesn't appear so we're going to talk more about that in a second. He's an unbelievable player. I'm Minnesota. I can't quibble with that. I got two really good players. I could fill out the roster run up to me. I know the warts. I know the words of Carl Anthony towns this game. I'm well versed in the wards of Carly Anthony Carl Anthony towns. There is no case against it to me. 1201 a.m. they're signing it. That's like, I think they should. Yeah, I ultimately agree with that. What did you think, though? And what do you think? Because this is a deal that didn't happen that I want to talk about. About the wolves pursuing traditional rim protecting centers to pair with Carl towns, Clint capela was mentioned, I was told that was overblown. Rudy Gobert was mentioned. I was told that was overblown, but more potentially because of how high a price Utah is looking to get in the event if they trade Rudy Gobert. I thought that was really interesting. Because I didn't expect the wolves to devote that kind of resource level to center. Even though I know that they tried to masquerade, they tried to masquerade a good defense with Carl towns in the middle by trapping everything. It sort of giving up this gimmick up this aggressive defense because they know he can't be a rim protector and ultimately there's going to be holes to plug on all ends of that defense all over the court and it won't work against the best teams. I just thought like particularly the Gobert stuff, that contract is so huge, I just kind of didn't see that coming, even though they played with the paint bound power forward in Jared Vanderbilt, who's essentially a center on offensive were quite successful. I just find it really interesting. Do you think a cat Gobert pairing would be a good idea? No. I mean, ultimately, I think that it's going to be difficult to win that way for four rounds or even multiple rounds in the playoffs because you're going to come up against a team where you're going to need to play small. And now I'm either taking Carl Anthony towns to really go bear off the court. So to me, what would have made sense? I buy the idea that, okay, let's get towns off the center. Let's bring in someone who's a better room protector. To me, that's Isaiah hartenstein. That's kevon Looney. You know, they ended up going in a different direction with their non taxpayer mid level and signing Kyle Anderson who probably is going to push towns more to center if they don't make a trade, but those are the guys that would have been looking at because it's okay if I start them and play them 20 minutes a game during the regular season and then reduce that during the playoffs or the kevon Looney was the one center who ultimately was able to stay on the court the entire postseason. So that direction made more sense to me than we're going to invest a ton of resources into these two spots. When we know that there are going to be certain match ups where town is going to be best utilized as a center in the playoffs. Bingo. I wouldn't do the Gobert one. The contract is just too prohibitive. It's too big. I can't throw him the ball on offense when teams go small against us in the playoffs. I can't throw them in the ball period other than to finish lob dunks, which is fine. He's great at that and he might be the best defense player in the league. The contract is too big. And you nailed it with the loony analogy. I look at what the Mavs just did with JaVale McGee. Three years, 20 million, and JaVale apparently told Tim McMahon, he's expecting to be the mav starting center, which is really interesting because they have Dwight pal Christian wood and Mexico all of the team. But I look at the JaVale archetype is exactly the loony archetype. That's where if I'm spending resources at center and I'm the wolves, I want a guy who will play 18 minutes a game. I still need to have my team construction be that Carl Anthony towns even in the regular season is playing 20 minutes a game minimum at center because of his shooting and versatility on offense. I would not spend those kind of resources at center. I think it's really interesting that that idea is apparently not off the board in Minnesota. Like I said before, I would have rather spent that kind of resources at point guard with a defensive minded, unselfish, Gritty, improving rising guy like to John de Murray, that's off the board now. It'll be interesting to see where they have any other Minnesota thoughts. I mean, who knows maybe eventually walker Kessler becomes that guy. Certainly my draft projections thought so. Really? Okay. How is projected? Highest projected block rate of anybody I've ever done projections for from college. I like the guys that they're looking for in free agency too, like slo-mo, they sign slow mode today. I've heard rumblings that they're kicking around the Martin twins. Those are just basketball players. Like they could go get more basketball players, more smart basketball players in the door. Be interesting to see how Tim Connolly puts his puts his mark on the team. The Gobert thing just kind of, it kind of surprised me to be honest. Are you in all concerned or flummoxed? That we have heard nothing about Zach lavine in the first, what are we almost 6 hours into free agency? You know, maybe he's an old school July 1st guy. I'm not sure what to make of that. I'm not flummoxed, but it is a little interesting by contrast to Bradley Beal, who kind of seemed to be in the same boat where everyone just expected to resign with their teams. Would you go after Rudy Gobert if you were the raptors? I mean, I think it depends how much I have to give up. I definitely forces me to change my style of play at pretty considerably. Like their whole game plan has been let's switch everything for a long period of time and not that Rudy Gobert can't switch, but certainly it doesn't maximize his value. So I probably wouldn't, I guess is the answer I'm saying there. I don't think I would either. I like what I've got going too much to put that many resources into verdugo bear. The contract is too much. Pistons, we talked about earlier. Can we please just talk about the door for a.

"I wonder when you think about sports media and its relationship to the leagues and the players that it covers. Whether you feel optimistic about what's coming next or pessimistic. Yeah, I'm very pessimistic. I'm so disappointed in Adam silver. I just couldn't be any more disappointed in him. You know, during the pandemic access had to be changed because of the circumstances, the reporters were assured over and over again. That when the pandemic ended, normal access would be put back in place, and then Adam pulled the rug out. And I think it's a bad precedent. And I've encouraged all that right, 'cause again, I'm not really part of this anymore, you know? For the most part, not really in that world. But I told them we should all boycott the games. And see how they like the coverage. Because they're wrong if they think they don't need. Everybody thinks well, this media doesn't matter anymore. We have our own platform. The NBA has our own. We have our own group. I'm like, okay, go ahead. Just see how people do without any of these really fine reporters and writers. Just go ahead and see. So I really bothered very, very bothered by a very disappointed by it. What do you think it looks like? I mean, that world you're saying, go ahead and see, what does that look like? Well, if they stopped, if everybody boycotted, I just think consumers would realize, oh, okay, wow, they really did provide a service. They gave me color. They took me inside the locker room. They showed me why this guy was upset. You know, Carl Anthony towns has the worst game of his life in the biggest moment of his life so far. And do you think his platform? I don't even know if he has his own production company. They're going to tell it the same way the people that were there that saw the anguish and the frustration and the no one was going to accuse car lengthy nouns have not trying hard enough. It was the opposite. He was trying too hard. All these things and presenting that picture for them. If everybody just didn't go and just saw the box score, you're going to get the same story. No, you're not. And so sometimes I don't think even the consumers understand what we do. This is a hard job. It's really hard with these young journalists are doing. And it's important and it matters. Not just in sports, obviously in everywhere. And so you limit access, you cut off access, you put them all into group situations where everyone's getting the same quote from the same player. You got to be kidding me. That's just not how our business works. Be careful what you wish for. I mean, I don't know if they'll do it, but I was like, I was totally telling them you should. Just boycott all the games. And aside from a boycott, like, what do you tell a young reporter? What would you tell a young Jackie McMullen about how to approach this job? Show up, just show up early and stay late. Show up before games, show up before practice. If a player is doing a media event, show up, just show up, be there, be there all the time. Have them know that you're working just as hard as they are. We used to fly commercially with the team. Right. If they had a triple overtime game, they were out on a 7 30 a.m. flight, sometimes guys would change their flights to sleep in and I was like, I never did that. Not once. I want them to know I'm up just like you. I'm tired just like you. I'm coming back with you guys, you know? So just show up. That's what I tell all younger I show up, ask questions. Ask questions that other people are afraid to ask. Set yourself apart. But what if you're not allowed to show up? Find a way. Find a way. There's got to be a way. There's always a way. I used to go before practice started. That's how I got to know the Celtics players. And now that doesn't do you much good anymore. So you got to figure out other ways. You got to figure it out. I mean, I always loved the time on the court before the game. Because guys come in and they do their pregame warmups way early. And then we come in and they're hanging around the court and you sit with the opposing coaches and the opposing broadcasters and you see that to me was always a great time to develop some relationships into get some insight. Like that whole mental health series was done like that. Because you don't want to come at somebody with a jackhammer, right? A story that sensitive, you have to ease into it. Do you miss it, Jackie? Do you miss that kind of reporting? Not right now. Maybe later. I don't really miss any of it right now. This podcast took the life right out of me. It was a lot of work and a lot of time and a lot of writing and a lot of rewriting and recording and adding players at the 11th hour because we got to an episode and you realize there's a hole here. So we got to go back and some of that went on. There are a lot harder than people realize. So hard. Yeah, I'm not sure I need to do another one, but we'll see..

"Man It's kind of weird I love the play in tournament It's not actually the playoffs as the NBA sees it so this is the official first day of the playoffs And as you say we got action Already out of the gate Are you in full NBA playoff fever just yet Of course I am This is you know the best time of the year for the NBA I love it I didn't know if we would have a you know you're all doom and gloom with the NCAA tournament because your Aztecs got bounced right away And so I wondered if you were going to be doom and gloom with your Lakers not even qualifying you know It sounds like I'm trying to troll you but I'm not this is just an honest thought that I had I mean you are trying to show me But that's not the case I'm a basketball fan You know I love the playoffs I love watching it So the teams that earned the right to get there I am excited to watch them play That's the bottom line Yeah And how about not a shocker jazz beat the Mavs no Luka Dončić We'll get to that momentarily but the story so far how about the Minnesota Timberwolves huh They go in they take down John morant and the Memphis Grizzlies one 30 to one 17 You put a buck 30 up there A lot of offense going on big man Anthony Edwards He had 36 points Carl Anthony towns rebounding from that play in stinker that they won Carl Anthony towns was horrible in that game against the clippers but he responds with 29 points very efficient 11 for 18 so the big two if you will over there Anthony Edwards Karl Anthony towns getting it done for the tea wolves who take game one on the road very nice win for them That's a big win in watching that game I was just amazed by the youth of both of those teams I believe there are two youngest teams in the league and you can tell it was back and forth up and down I mean there was no slowing the ball down calling Anthony towns was running the break He'd take the ball off the rim and push the ball How many times did we see him get the ball at half quarter at the top of the circle And just attack the basket As a 7 foot one center just attack the basket and he had a vicious dog You read my mind On Jared Jackson junior there was just like ugh Yeah I mean the mobility of the big these days and the ever evolving game of post players I just was it was exciting to see what job doing his thing and Anthony Edwards it was good basketball It really was Yeah it was good basketball And I don't know how to say it exactly because Carl Anthony towns he's not built like a Greek God you know It looks a little doughy not quite the Michelin man Remember the old Michelin man Yeah Not quite doughy like that but he's not chiseled So every now and then when he just makes a grown man move like dunking on jaren Jackson junior and he stood there for a second and was like you know and he's like I'm gonna get teed up so I better turn away On the flip side of the shoot you got T though He got teed up Yeah You know it was a bad dunk when the guy who got posterized Tag team Out of the way and got the T after being a facialist And you know this is something that you got to keep in mind going forward from Memphis And look it's game one We can't overreact but you lose game one at home You got to keep monitoring this three point shooting from Memphis Now we know Desmond bane has been special from three And he was good He was three for 8 He'll take that all day from three today in game one but jaren Jackson junior zero for 5 John morant zero two That's not his game He definitely we talk about Biggs needing to get in the gym sometimes or Ben Simmons needing to work on his jump shot It's not nearly as bad as Ben Simmons but John morant has got to develop his outside shooting because it's just it's not as consistent as it needs to be for him to reach that next level of just super super super stardom You absolutely right and this is a young player Like this kid he's a baby So in terms of developing his game that'll come with time right He's still going off just pure athleticism and being able to get to the rim What I did count I counted about 7 or 8 times he landed on the floor on the ground in the game and that's going to wear on you He's not going to be able to sustain his explosiveness is if every game he's on the ground two three times 7 or 8 excuse me 7 or 8 times a game that's going to be tough to do Yeah The injury start creeping in every time you touch the ground you flop on your back or.

"Will be our Carl Anthony towns, Nas read and Greg Monroe, Monroe played well for Minnesota during the whole COVID stretch when one of a bunch of guys were being shuffled around the league entirely. So yeah, so there it is. We'll see where that goes from. But yeah, they took them away. He was just finished the ten day with Utah, and there was some thought he may stick in Utah, and he may have stayed there because Utah's without you as abuke was their third string center, but sounds like Greg Monroe maybe. Maybe he would rather be in Minnesota. I don't know what the situation was, maybe. You taught him want to go. But yeah, that's where we're at for now. He was tired of being caught in between the hatred between Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. And he just said, I can't deal with this anymore. I'm going back to Minnesota. That has to be what happened. That's it. RJ and emhart was waved by the cabs Keith. You were a little bit surprised by this one, but we're speculating that maybe that's making some room for Moses Brown. Yeah, so they had done a full sequence of moves in recent weeks where Moses Brown was on a ten day nem hard was on a two way than two way got converted, Brown signed to a two way. My guess is now they know they might not have Jared Allen for maybe the plan, maybe the playoffs if they get there. It does sound like everyone will be back for the next game. So that's huge. And that's really welcome news. But you need one more big damn hards clearly the last guy on the roster. And once again, as a reminder, two way players are not playoff eligible. That's going to come up in a couple more of these transactions that we're going to discuss as well. So yeah, so get Moses Brown converted over there and get him into the lineup. It's been starting for them over the last week while both Allen and mobile have been out..

"With the ball, they took some ill advised shots, and it didn't matter. And they got, I mean, they just, they're on another planet right now. It's like I said, we're kind of pinching ourselves like, you know, you don't want to wake up from whatever this is, because it just, it's so hard. It's just so hard to fathom, you know, from where they were earlier in the year that they're so much better than all of these teams that they're playing right now that they don't even have to go in with an a effort and they're killing them. And that's the scary part about what they're able to do at this point. I mean, it looks as if they're like a fighter who takes a couple of really hard punches to the jaw and looks over this corner and says, we got to end this now. Okay. And then they just beat the crap out of teams. I mean, Deangelo Russell is a good player. He missed 5 out of 6 shots he took from the field. Carl Anthony towns is a legitimate all star. One of the best centers in the game. He was a non factor for most of the night. Anthony Edwards former number one in the top pick. He had a stretch where he was really, really good, but he lasted maybe three, four minutes. When you are, again, they are, again, and I keep saying this, they are snatching souls every single game at the hour of their choosing. They're not going to wait till the first, second. They're going to pick when they're ready to take your soul. They're going to take it. And they're not asking any questions. They're just going to take it. And there's nothing that teams have been able to do about it. Which to me is my point because for the most part, this is the same team we saw back in November, December just couldn't do anything consistently other than could be inconsistent. That was their consistency. That ain't the case now. Again, they're on a different level than everyone they're playing right now. Everyone. Completely and like we were saying with Jimmy earlier, like you look around and you see other teams playing other teams like, fine, you haven't gotten to play some of these yeast competitors in a while. Obviously last time you did, you played, you know, the good game against Brooklyn, but they're not one of the top four seeds. You just destroyed Philly, but it was without hard and you still beat him by 48 points. Of course you killed them. But you haven't played them recently to see how you stack up, but you're watching them play other teams you've played, and they're struggling and losing, and then you're beating these teams by a hundred points. You know, so like it's, you know, it's bananas..

"John, you recently talked to Carl Anthony towns about how all of this has, I guess, reshaped his outlook on life, really. And even caused him to bury some hatchets in the process. What did he tell you? It was really interesting in our conversation and it came up kind of unprompted as we were really kind of just trying to get a feel for how he is evolving and how he's persevering through all of the adversity that he has faced. And he is and to his own admission, Ben a sort of fiery volatile sometimes personality on the basketball court. And one thing that he told me is that when he went through losing his mother when he went through COVID himself, he also had a very bad bout with it himself and lost a ton of weight and really had a hard time with it. It changed a little bit of his perspective on how he looks at the game. Basketball used to be very front and center, the most important thing in his life. And he has kind of come back this season, knowing that there's more to life than just what happens on the court. And so what that is done for him is tried to make him more grateful he's told me. Tried to make him more appreciative of the moments that he does have. And so he told me that last season when the Timberwolves were in New York, he pulled Tom thibodeau aside and said, he wanted to move past their problems that they had and sort of patched that relationship. With regard to Jimmy Butler, he was on a podcast that he did in December, saying that he doesn't want to hold that grudge anymore with butler that he was thankful for the way that butler teamed with him to make the playoffs. Thank you, Jimmy, appreciate you. No matter how we saw it, we didn't see eye to eye. All right, we didn't see eye to eye. We don't have to, but guess what? We got the job done on the court. We gave the wolves a chance to be in the playoffs. We did that. Thankful. And he wants to just kind of give people their flowers, as he says, and be on the positive side of life. He does not want to be in the gutter of NBA Twitter, you know, throwing shade, having all sorts of drama. He wants to move past that. Y'all are spreading negativity. I want to spread love. I want to spread to some appreciation. Flowers get flowers more. We losing people every day and I keep talking about trying to spread negativity and all this shit. I hear for that. I hear for that. That's bullshit. Well, personal stuff aside, Carl Anthony towns has also been changing his game on the court this season and John you've watched this guy play up close for years now. What's he doing differently this season? So what you're seeing is he's still shooting the ball from three point range remarkably well. He is scoring in the post with efficiency, but one of the things that is tangible that you can really point to that is different is he is starting to set screens on the perimeter and then roll to the basket for passes to get layups and dunks. And in the past, what he almost always did was set the screen and then pop out behind the three point line for a jump shot. He is kind of like looking at what are the other ways that I can be effective and maybe even try and help this offense take a few steps forward. The biggest thing though on car lengthy towns is much more attentive defensively. I think we've been waiting for him to put in the requisite attention to detail and consistency of effort on that side of the floor for much of his career. He's done it in short little bursts throughout his career, but this is the most sustained level of focus and intensity that he has provided in his entire career. And the wolves have been all season long, a top ten defense because of that. And let me tell you something in Anders to see the Timberwolves in the top ten of defensive efficiency is like we are living in an alternate universe. And so they are bringing an entirely different mindset and approach on that side of the ball and towns is a big part of that. He is the last line of defense. He's blocking shots. He's getting rebounds. He's getting out on the perimeter and bothering people. And so that's made really all the difference when it comes to them being able to pile up some wins and get into the Western Conference playoff picture. You also wrote about Carl Anthony towns performance in a big win over the Knicks on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. Can you walk us through his performance in that game and what was so significant about it? Yeah, that was a performance that really kind of underscored the growth in his game and in his maturity level because he came out of the gates in the first quarter, just dominating. Towns gets around Robinson. Great job not shuffling the feet and being able to finish on the spin. In the second and third quarters, the Knicks got much more physical with him, and that is a case where in the past. Towns would have let that get to the no calls, the bumps and the elbows and the kind of tenacity. Into the paint lot of contacts no whistle walker the other way. Kim has got 5 here in the first two minutes in the second half. Instead, towns kind of just kept his cool. He allowed D'angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, Jalen Noel to kind of get their shots and kind of keep things going for without forcing himself on the game. And then in the final moments when the wolves absolutely needed a bucket, they went to towns against Julius Randle right at the top of the key. During the wealth offense Edwards packed with the sounds including at the nail cat on the attack off the glass and wood. And the Timberwolves go back in front. That really was the go ahead basket that allowed the wolves to prevail in that game. So just kind of the ability to fight through adversity and then stay in it and be able to make big plays down the stretch. I think just showed kind of how far that he has come in that process of becoming a professional. I stuck to my guns and I just kept playing and playing the game on and lend the gameplay itself out and when it got to the end, just to be mentally prepared for that moment and to not let anything affect me to feel that confident to feel that kind of calm. You know, it just speaks to the growth of me since I was a rookie until now. Now, there are still going to be nights where he doesn't do that. They lost in Atlanta on Wednesday night and he was a little bit out of sorts in that game. And it didn't go well in the third quarter with some referee confrontations and things like that. There are going to be those nights that happen. He understands that it's a work in progress and Chris Finch that head coach has also said that they're going to take two steps forward and they might take one step back, but as long as they keep kind of going down the path, gradually going in the right direction, I think that they feel that they're really going to be in a position and the end of the season to be in the playoffs and to be a factor there. Coming up, the trade rumors, swirling around the Timberwolves, and around towns himself..

"Devin Booker, Deandre ayton, Carl Anthony towns, who I thought about having a Jan Jackson junior spot, but just a little bit older. Michael Porter junior, I'm throwing in here as an honorable because if he gets healthy, he's very good. Okay, Eastern Conference, two back court, Trey young, cade Cunningham. Okay. It's like that. I like that. Three front court, my guy, Jason Tatum, just got to put him in here. Of course. Planning to be honest. Yeah. He will not be. Giannis, who is going to be 33, I think. And by then, we'll just be shooting 45% from behind the three point line. And Evan mobley is my third grade. He's had some really nice moments in that warriors game yesterday. There are a couple of possessions where he was being guarded by beelitz on the first half and was I've never seen a player more aggressively call for the ball this season than when Motley had be elites on him. And I think the two people he was cooking had to take him out of the game immediately. Like two straight possessions ended up doing yeah, so shout out to Evan mobley. I don't have a ton of honorable mentions honestly. Scotty Barnes who looks he's just incredible. When Ricky of the year, bam, we just talked about bam. And LaMelo Ball, those are my three honorable mentions for guys who could. A lot of conceivably start. Bam disrespect, I see how it is. This is the opposite of disrespect, but honor, we put the one who wanted to trade him to Phoenix. A transcendent player. Okay. Do you want to talk about the hawks? "So I'm interested now even more so to see the next time these guys play. Well, I think what's really funny too is T said this in a game where the jazz beat them by like 30 points. So I think he was a little maybe just a little bitter a little bit or something. It could be, but yeah, he's exactly was he don't put no fear in my heart. Which I just think is great. I love Anthony. I am never going to be against a player one when they speak their mind about somebody and say, hey, here I am. So yeah, a 100%, I am all in on this when they play again next time. Well, let's see, but yeah, it does ring a little hollow after you just got here, butts whipped up and down the court. But all right, his other comment, though, I don't know if you caught the other part of it. No. He talked about Carl Anthony towns. A little bit. You know, he was pretty open about his feelings, you know, basically expressed love for Carl Anthony towns, but said stop waiting, holding the ball and waiting for double teams to come. Go quick, attack when you get it. You're better than every other center in the league, go basically show it. Carl Anthony towns or Anthony Davis. Yeah, right? But yeah, he'd say he said it about yeah, well, Kentucky big menu. There it is. Mix and match. But yeah, I did think that was a very interesting that he's kind of here's the second year guy and he's challenging the franchise guy a little bit and saying, hey, come on, man. We need you at your best if we're going to be good. Absolutely. And they certainly do. But you're seeing Edwards kind of step into I mean, I don't want to say a leadership role just yet, but that's kind of what you don't make comments on like this when you're just the new guy on the team, right? This is more stepping into kind of claiming your territory and he certainly a rising star in the NBA. So exciting stuff from him and again, I can't wait to see them play against the jazz again and see what happens when he just it's one of those we come off the pick and roll, go bears back and the floor just opens up and just let Edwards challenge Gobert at the rim. Straight on. Let's see what happens. I also tend to think, you know, this is just what we've got a little off the rails here, so I'm gonna go fully off the rails..

"Where the game starts. Okay, now we were just talking about how the nets don't necessarily, I think they don't need Kyrie and I remember last year, I thought the reason Kyrie came back from his going MIA was because harden was playing so well. One of the things we've seen Jeff over the years in the NBA is guys asking out, we thought the Giannis may try to get his shoot his way out of Milwaukee. He obviously doesn't want to leave. You know, so who's the next guy to do it? You know, I thought Brad bill that bill was going to be there, but obviously that's not going to happen yet. And I don't know if it's going to happen period this year with Washington winning. We'll see. You know, I think the two guys that you got to watch, right, bob or Carl Anthony towns, in Minnesota. I think he's certainly a candidate. And Damian Lillard, in Portland. Yeah. You know, both those guys are struggling right now. Minnesota has struggled. There's really no expectations there. And I could see Carl Anthony towns going back closer to home. Ultimately, the Knicks are the place that everybody talks about because again he grew up in New Jersey. You know, could he go back home, especially with everything he's had to deal with from a personal front with losing family members? Does he want to get a little bit closer to home? And Lillard, listen, Portland should be better. I mean, it just feels like it's kind of mediocrity. Every year to some degree, you know, they kind of they rise a little bit, but ultimately they're just kind of spinning their wheels and they're not a true contender any year. So I think that's going to be one that you've got to watch, just does then finally say, you know what? I've given everything I got in Portland. We don't have enough around me in terms of other than me and CJ. That's pretty much it at this point. If we're going to look at the. Tableau, these guys are in terms of the franchises they're with and what the expectations are and what the history is and all that. There's a name. I'm just throwing it out there. Not that this, I'm not starting anything here. I'm simply saying, within a couple of years, if things don't hit a higher level, John Moran. Oh, look at you. Already. Wow. Because this is the way I talk about limiting. And I could see a scenario in 2024 if they haven't done anything. You know, he's that type of guy. That's all. I just thought it out there. A ton of identify possibilities down the road. You know, Memphis has been up a franchise. Okay guys, in other news, Mike's chef skis is in a bit of a jam. His grandson, Mike severino's on the team was in a car with pala vincero. "But if you can get do that three 6 two three three 6 that's a spot and with where you get hardened and Kyrie and Duran, I feel like the longer that team goes the less effective they'll be. There was likely they'll be healthy. Right. Exactly. Exactly. But as we saw last year, if Durant's the one that's healthy, he might be able to actually carry them without the other two, which is phenomenal. Yeah. The thing is, absolutely. There are issues though that crop up with those two guys being out there. Because only one guy can have the ball in their hands. Yeah. So yes, you overplay to that one person, but defensively, there are issues with having Kyrie and harden out there. That you wouldn't have when you have Bruce Brown and. Timothy cabrero, you know. I don't know. Point is. Tommy Hanson. Dot com. Mike. Yeah. Damn right, Mike wouldn't make that mistake. That's right. But I think that there's a good situation there. And I think the other piece that going into these all these win losses, things is that there's a trade market for certain teams and not for other teams. So the Celtics, once these contracts kind of work their way through and the period after which they can be traded. The Celtics are January timeline, right? Yeah. Mid January by the all cleared up. Yeah. Exactly. They've got the Evan fournier TPE money they've got we're going to see what's going to happen here. This Bradley Beal thing obviously, we're going to be so sick of hearing the name Bradley Beal. I mean, it's going to be obnoxious at this point. But there's Bradley Beal and then you guys Zach lavine and now cat. Is he is that gonna happen? Is he ready to go? I mean, I think that's a little bit harder to see because they're working so hard to build a winner. I don't know that that's a direction they'd go in. But what Carl Anthony towns or any of it? I'm saying that the Timberwolves, I think are less likely to take back assets that aren't going to immediately lead to them winning. And the Celtics are going to want to make a deal that would lead them to winning. But we don't Cedric Maxwell has been singing the praises of cat and thinking he's the guy to come here. It would be a really cool mix if you could keep Brown and Tatum and get it. Right. And again, it's like the Simmons thing. You know what I mean? Like, there's no point in doing it. If you can't keep those two, and the other team is unlikely to do the deal without one of those too. I mean, it's going to be the constant conversation Beale is, you know, really the one for a mid season trade anyway that makes the most sense because he's the most likely to go. And, you know, Washington would be looking to, you know, full on rebuild. They're not to your point..

Yeah, no, and I don't think it's gonna happen unless town's forces it. And I think that's why, you know, if you're in that front office and you see that tweet last night, that's, you know, I mean, as bad as everything else, if they're going to have to deal with it, they are dealing with today is that's the back of my mind is I got to get on the phone with Carl Anthony and make sure that he's cool that he understands where we're going and why all this is happening because as soon.

"He's gonna stay committed as long as he possibly can, I guess. Or at least for least another year because, you know, that IG post that he put up right after being eliminated. It's both volumes. I mean, obviously, they went out and got a brand new head coach and Chauncey billups and they're trying to, you know, clean things up and make this team as competitive as possible. But we all know max in one year, all that can change, right? One more season of this and maybe he's another first round second round exit. And he's thinking to himself, this is it. I need to get out of here. Well, you know, I've said that about him. You know, his ability to score the basketball. I've definitely said that. But also looking at Karl Anthony towns, who has never really won in this league. How long can a talented player like that be on the team? And the team's centrally sucks for years after years. And even if you look at Minnesota right now, there are people right now we'll see Minnesota his lottery bound again and that's where Carl Anthony towns who was one of the first was the first pick in the draft. And I think they've had a couple of other guys who are first high first round director. High round draft choices. I think he's another guy who's taking their first round. So one of those early picks he'd have to be tired after a while and said, I might want to get out of town. It's that time of the year in all eyes are now turning to football as teams are back on the gridiron for the start of the football season..

"If I'm Ben Simmons though this may not be the worst thing if he winds up with the Timberwolves out of the spotlight you're at a franchise that has been down in the dumps for years and years and years now you're not going to make things any worse by coming. In fact if anything your arrival if they suddenly become a playoff team guess what? You get to be the hero that helped lift this franchise up right? And the expectations are not going to be that high. You don't have the same spotlight on you playing in Minnesota. Yes I know the weather is not the same as in California. But just in terms of getting his career back on track I don't think this is the worst outcome. No it's not California. It's not it's not playing in a glamour market but I could see a lot of positives from Ben Simmons perspective to winding up with the wolves. Yeah and if you're the wolves side of things you have to be thinking all right Carol at any towns is never said he wants traded or wants anything like daddy's been extremely loyal and he's never even. There's never even been buzz except by every other fan base who says towns eats to go somewhere else. Right. So I think if you're the wolves where you're kind of looking at is yeah we don't even want to get it to that point. We don't want to Lillard situation where maybe I'm kind of thinking about a trade. Like you don't want that. You want him to stay happy. You want him to stay right there where he is. And what's also funny I made this point on another show the other day yes occasionally I do cheat on you Trevor. Sorry it does happen. I'm gonna storm out of here Keith. I'm so well I'll just talk to the LeBron Jersey then. Carl Anthony towns in Minnesota. It's starting to feel a little bit like KG and Minnesota where KG never wanted to leave..
