"Now curious The twitter handle was knit. And it twits twit. Who has why did. The knicks have zero saturday night games but nine wednesday games Do you hate fun. Nights for knicks fans and strictly based on their availability on underline availability. We tried to you know. Do the best we could to try and get some but Very difficult yeah now. I figured that was going to be like the most basic of boring explanation that there could possibly be because that's usually the answer on something as complicated as the schedule but it wasn't. I thought maybe you know. Did the knicks find that. They weren't doing as well on saturday nights or something or they wanted to have more wednesdays for a reason like i thought there could have been. Maybe something the number of wednesday certainly we have. It is one of our highest game count nights and so we have many teams with probably eight or nine or ten wednesdays. The knicks are unique team that that weekday games do incredibly well for them because the new york market is you know is market of folks who are in the city during coming to games on weeknights and so whereas you know. Some other teams may struggle with a tuesday night. Seven o'clock game the knicks. Not and so it's It's certainly not a focus to to avoid weekend games..

"Asked them if they have specific preferences especially because there's an always in their schedule whether it's the team that hosts the all star being this case cleveland. You know what to do around that we ask teams if they want to to submit priority dates if there are certain dates that they wanna play because either a civic Event in town that they want to be part of or that they don't want to be part of because it's such a big civic event they don't wanna be playing there to be distracted from people's attention there so we go through that and i think we probably did the best we've ever done on You know following up on team requests and team priority requests in fulfilling them so our guys did a great job on this pat herald. Jeanne lee and matt bracy on on doing that and going through and keeping track of and making sure that we're cognizant of team requests and team priorities and whether whether their business or basketball arena based whatever whatever it may come from that segues nicely to questions from people on twitter. kale haley kale. Not the crunchy leafy stuff that we love in brooklyn ask. What kind of requests do teams make that influenced the schedule and then related to that from chris. Mccabe what is the strangest request teams can routinely requests a lot of things request. Some that are based on travel so in other words team that is going to play is going to have disney on ice for example in their building a certain point season. We're gonna make sure they try and get a home game as close to the beginning and as close to the end of that period possible because they know they're going to be gone for. Let's say seven to ten days That's one another one. I mentioned. there's a couple of teams that are how that are very big the near very big deal in our market Indianapolis oklahoma city for example. And they want to be part of that And they want to be part of civic celebration there so that they want to have a game in that window Indiana requested request a game on the weekend of college football championship because the game being played it looks all stadium and they thought that would be a great opportunity for them to get a game there that we can so we did that You know because you can look at it and say it's it's not to be detrimental to anyone else. It's going to work. And that's the way we we we evaluate those so. That's a strange one. I'm going to have to think a little bit about that. About strange ones. Not any strange ones. No i mean the atypical. Ones are when teams asked to play it. Oh we sort of..

"It's a it's a little less about the matchup as featuring the teams and players who we know are fans wanna see so sure there may not be a history or any rivalry with with dallas in utah. But we know our fans. Like tune into c- luca danni which we know our fans like the tune in to see donovan. Mitchell rudy gobert. They had the best record league last year. Like that is a game. That's going to drive viewership in that ten dirty window whether or not there is a a rivalry or a history You know to to the dallas matchup. And so i think we have a a great problem right now. Which is an an over waiting of teams. Who deserve that profile and that that played itself out on the abc schedule. Outside of christmas. I i think tom we set a record Lease under this current tv deal for the number of teams featured on abc schedule over the course season because we have so many high profile teams at the moment in high profile stars. Who who want to get out to the national audience now. I think that's right. I think that's objectively true. I mean we talk to the media about the races being a lot. Murkier this past postseason or going into it and even going into next season like we can all point to lakers and nets and the oddsmakers. Certainly have but i think we all understand like. There's there's a pretty sizable group in both conferences. That have a case to make and that hasn't always been the case so that speaks to the the challenge you guys faced for the scheduling christmas. The other thing. I thought about what the christmas day game. Maybe you can let me on this part. The obvious thing would be like if there are teams that bad blood or the rivalries or deployed in the finals. They play in the conference finals. Go ahead and match them backup or somebody got traded match those guys up and and we go for the grudge matches in the drama the personality conflicts. But it seems to me that with some of these teams are also maybe looking to promote. Tell me if i'm wrong. Certain teams were players. That maybe haven't gotten as much national run recently. That what like. What is the balance between going for. Just the obvious. You know spicy matchup that everybody will immediately recognize. Oh yeah i wanna see those teams play other again because they hate each other or there was a trade versus place teams on christmas. That you want to Boost by giving the national platform that maybe hadn't had as much prominence. I think it's i think it's a little bit about. I think you want to take the opportunity to use it to promote Teams that may not have been in the national spotlight as much maybe maybe preceding lectures plus right so let's say a team like atlanta but atlanta certainly played their way into getting onto christmas by their performance throughout the playoffs last season. So they they're they're a great example of that. I think the other thing is you know. As as evans said you've got a lot of marquee players the teams at fans want to see and this gives us an opportunity to do that..

"So no sp a justifiably so i think i hope i got the other piece of anton can touch on as it related to. The arena is Arenas her book and fast. And so if we didn't release a second-half schedule and had to ask teams to hold another seventy five days. You know from from january april i. We would have had a revolt on our hands as well so it's served all parties. In that sense. I spoke to a team yesterday. Said that so we released the schedule. Friday at three o'clock and the person who does the arena bookings for one of the team said at three zero five. I was looking to try and find the other dates that i could book shows into so as soon as as soon as we release the dates that not only that we're using that a team is playing on but the dates that were not using. So if there's happens to be a friday or saturday in a market where they don't have a game but they had held it because they didn't know what we are doing yet until we released our scheduling in our final schedule. They go wait a minute now. We've got a great chance to get this concert that was sort of on the back burner but now you know now we can get two nights of that show in there and a big deal and if you you know especially the arenas have gone through this shortage of events and thus shortage of revenue for the last eighteen months and so now as soon as we released those dates back they were out there trying to trying to get shows now on the other hand in the last month of the process or less three weeks of the process. They were two different tour that cancelled dates in the spring. So we got some dates back so this is a very and one thing you know one thing. We've learned is the flexibility that we have to have in this at things that we would have said two years ago..

"Sacramento miami orlando that you can really cut down on travel both in terms of miles and number of trips flights if you combine those road games and the new element we put in last year the series where two teams play two consecutive games in the same market Which also has down a flight later in the season and so we leverage those things to reduce the mileage down to that record low. You mentioned an estimated forty three thousand miles per team for this coming season because there is a sense that that's going to be particularly helpful from a player health perspective. The last thing that is not just the number of to day breaks The teams have in the in their schedule. If you think about standard scheduled teams are playing roughly every other day and so you could schedule a full season where a team plays. Every other day has no back to backs but they'd also never have two days off in a typical. Nba team won't practice. If they have a game day often another game the only gonna practice in those those windows of two and three days off and so to build in that time in that practice on you need those and so we focus on not just the number is the actual spacing that we don't want teams to be going too long. Without an instance of those and last year we had because of those Moments we had a couple of teams that went the entire second half of the season which for sixty seven days long without a to daybreak and so they were just playing a game off gain game often. So those patterns were incredibly taxing We reverted to a normal schedule. Here and put a heightened focus on making sure that those breaks came at a regular cadence for all teams and so no teams have anything remotely close to a sixty seven day stretch without today's off and that was a big focus as well. I wanna hit the mileage thing real quick just because i needed. I didn't see a baseline for the so. If it's an average of forty three thousand miles and that's the lowest ever. What does that down from. What has been the most recent high. Or what's the role. Our our our average on the had the nineteen twenties. Big play to its completion. That that full season schedule would've been around. Forty six thousand miles so something on the order of eight percent reduction But but an even bigger dent in the number of flights again because because your plan consecutive games in markets where there are two teams or You know the series themselves which would cut down the slight so so all in all we believe a material materially reduced travel burden. Aunties the fact that there's going to be only about seven one game trips per team instead of ten in in the twenty nine hundred twenty season which was the last full season scheduled that way anyway. Obviously it didn't finish that way. Is that a new efficiency that you guys were were focused on was trying to do fewer of these out in back one game trips. Yeah say that sorry. I should've touched that as well. That feels on your exact same point about flights is so if you play forty-one road games in a season at the two extremes you could play forty one game trips in which case you would have eighty two flights because for each of those are games you apply to the road game at home and you do it. Forty one times that would be eighty two flights. You could also play as one forty one game road trip. You could leave player. Forty one games and come home and in that case. You'd only have forty two flights because you'd fly out for the forty one game at home. So teams are gonna fly somewhere between forty to eighty two times the more single game trips. You have the closer you get to that. Eighty two number and so by reducing from an average of ten down to seven..

Apple Loses A Copyright Lawsuit

"Federal judge has dismissed. Apple's claims that mobile device virtualization company corral corallium violated copyright law with its software that allowed folks to run ios on pc's quoting the washington post in a ruling that has wide reaching implications for iphone security research and copyright law a federal judge in florida throughout apple's claims that carelli had violated copyright law with its software which helps security researchers find bugs and security holes on apple's products. Corallium co founded in two thousand seventeen by husband and wife. Amanda gordon and chris wade was a breakthrough insecurity research because it gave its customers the ability to run virtual iphones on desktop computers. Corallium makes it to use physical avon's that contain specialized software to poke and prod. Ios apple's mobile operating system. The judge in the case ruled that carell liam's creation of virtual. Iphones was not a copyright violation in part because it was designed to help improve the security for all iphone users. Corallium wasn't creating a competing product for consumers rather it was a research tool for a comparatively small number of customers. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment in the lawsuit. Apple argued that crawley products could be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands because security flaws discovered by liam could be used to hack iphones. Apple also argued that chromium sells its product indiscriminately claim corallium denied dread. Rodney smith called apple's argument on those claims quote puzzling. If not disingenuous quote smith found that chromium used a vetting process before selling its products to customers. Apple initially attempted to acquire corallium in two thousand eighteen. According to court records when the acquisition talks stalled apple sued corallium last year claiming its virtual iphones which contain only the bare bones functions necessary for security research constitute violation of copyright law apple also alleged corallium circumvented. Apple's security measures to create the software thereby violating the digital millennium copyright act that claim has not been thrown out and quote. So i was already to say this was a dumb lawsuit but apparently companies have won a similar cases in the past around copyright but most in the digital security community praised this result. Let me quote at pony. All the things on twitter quote. This is a big deal for security research in particular but also other parts of tech apple case was an insanely broad assertion. That emulating iowa's firmware on something. That's not apple's own hardware violates copyright rather than covered by fair use. Imagine if. That argument had prevailed that emulation of a binary even for wildly different purposes such as security testing that binary is a digital copyright infringement. Might as well have back named afl to automatic federal lawsuit in that scenario was such a dangerously broad claim if the logical conclusion of your lawsuit is windows being a terms of service. Change away from overnight bankrupting vm. Ware to force everyone to use your and turning security testing of compiled binary into lawsuits. "We could add you. Yes, they're not canceled again today this morning because it's it was blowing sideways. It was coming down this morning. Yeah. But same thing at the time we were gonna have rehearsal. The son was already out. So I do feel a little foolish Monday morning. The start Sunday night and says chances now eighty percents now accumulate accumulating one to three inches, but sky's cloudy skies in the afternoon. So it's taper off. All right. So we're going to meet the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator is name is rich scannon Carello. He was the quarterback coach in San Francisco under Kyle Shanahan, and we had him on early in the show. We wanted you to hear it and here he is. Absolutely. I guess I'll start the same way. I did with Eddie. Welcome to Denver. Have you spent any time in this town prior to? Being named the coordinator. I have not I mean other than visiting as a as a coach I have not spent much time here. So, but I've heard some great things and support our coaches have come through here said I'm going to love it. So coach Rick Lewis. I'm a former lumberjack. No, you spend a little time there. And and from what I hear you loved it there in flagstaff the the climate here in Denver's pretty similar to what you get inflec- staff. We may get a little more snow, but I think you're gonna like it here. Yeah. This is I grew up in northern California and Tahoe area and stuff like that in the foothills, and I'm looking forward to being in the this this area place your path to where you sit today really is an interesting one in a rather unique one. I mean, a lot of times you're gonna see guys that jump into the league whatever level and spent a long time in various capacities, and then the sort of work their way up you've worked your way up. No, no doubt about that. But you've spent a good. Amount of time in the college game. And I want to ask you just from an offensive standpoint. What how does that? Or does that help you in terms of sort of what you bring to the table from an offensive philosophy. Well, I think when you're in college football is such a different game in the NFL now, and they're really going in two different directions. And I think when you're so there because of that there are different and fresh ideas and college at you're exposed to the rules are different. And so that it does give you some ideas or some foundation to help. Do we lose rich? Yeah. You got me. Go ahead and continue your thought. No. I was saying, you know, it's college football's chain, which are you're supposed to different things and some of that stuff's making its way to the NFL. And yeah, you're able to give some fresh ideas and help help do that. But I also feel like my experience in college. You know, I was trying to run a pro system. And it's part of what pushed me to go. You don't have to make the move to the NFL. Anyway, I could the game it change and fans we're seeing a different land. They wanted a different style of play kind of a follow up on Dave's question and back to any you rich from what I understand you. You were there you liked it there and you're making good money. And then you quit to go down and join Kyle Shanahan in Atlanta to just kind of further hone your craft so to speak is that is that how the story does that. What she did. I find that pretty cool and pretty inspiring. Yeah. So I mean, I was you know, two thousand twelve thirteen fourteen in northern Arizona, and we had three great years were very. Successful three the more successful years ahead during the head. Coach's tenure and we built something really good with a young team. But even even at any you I could just sense that everyone was you know, the the way the world was the spread offenses. And and I wanted to get back to what I knew I knew I had to take a chance. I was I'm a I'm a single guy. I could do it financially, and I took a chance, and I knew Kyle was the guy and I knew I had opportunities. There's actually another opportunity almost played out for me in the NFL with someone else who was on a hejab that year a better off. But when it didn't happen. Dan, Quinn had saved a spot for me. And I was just very fortunate to get around the guy I wanted to be around. And I knew if I did a good job for him. And I could prove my abilities with him that I could do it with anyone and it really it's gotten me where I'm at. And we're speaking to a new office coordinator, the Broncos risking gorilla. You spent a good number of years with Kyle Shanahan. We're familiar with Kyle here in Denver, obviously. And I saw Kyle play when he was in high school. And of course, Mike is dad, but look two or three things is sort of impressed. You to the point that you you will bring those things, and maybe there's more maybe this less, but from Kyle's off circles way of doing things that you can implement within sort of what you believe in authencity here in Denver. I think philosophically I've always aligned with Kyle. And I tried to emulate that I knew some guys who've been with them and I'd studied it from afar, but I didn't know all the intricacies. Obviously, the the knowledge that he has and it had an experience. He started at such a young age growing up with his dad, you know, he just he just ahead of the curve for coaches it. It just happened happen that way for him. Get exposed to that his knowledge how he thinks how how he teaches the quarterback and how it gets the quarterback to sink within our system. I mean, those are the things that are it's invaluable knowledge. And and I think he's one of the best added. And if I you know, and that's what I want to bring to the Denver Broncos in and help build a offense. It's very similar in structure to what we did. But adaptable to the players that we have we're talking to the Broncos new offensive coordinator, rich gorilla. You said some nice things about case keenum coach in how do you feel like you can make case keenum better better than he was last year? Well, I mean, it's part of it is building an offense. This skill set in part of it is you know, he had a lot of young players around him last year in and just, you know, letting him do the things that he does best, you know, in you know, it showed a display in Minnesota. And that's that's the thing is like ET did a lot of it confidence. He he helped the team get to a NFC championship game. He made people around him better. And he had had a lot of qualities that that you're looking for in your starting quarterback. And so I want him to feel that confidence. And it's our job as an officer staff and and put him in a situation in a system that allows him to do that. And I think that's gonna come down to fundamentals scheme. Players all of it. It's just a car. It's a combination of a lot of things. And and I think that's part of what the system has that flexibility. And I I think it was reflected in the fact that we played different styles of quarterbacks and they all were had their various degrees of success in. And that's all you can ask Warren. I think we can do that without without question with case. And that's rich scannon Carello. He's the new offense coordinator for the Denver Broncos. And he said some nice things about case keenum did which now makes me think maybe that's the plan. Although they could also be trying to keep the rest of the NFL on their toes as to what they're gonna do. Maybe in the draft. I don't know. I think that rich gang guerrilla due to the fact that he just got here as a coordinator, honestly, would would not no. What the Broncos are going to do at quarterback. I'm not even sure the guys making the decision would know right now, if they're gonna go with case of is there a way to get somebody. And they feels better than case will they draft a quarterback high in the first round do they need to move up in the first round. Can they slide back not a great draft quarterback? So I think scan grow is just being completely honest in terms of how he viewed case keenum and what he saw when case was in Minnesota. And then conversely, what he saw last year because rest assured when he was interviewed he was asked about so what do you think about case giving you a guarantee that question was posed? We're out of time. We thank you for listening. Michael Brown coming up next CU. Buffs basketball also coming up in the keyword for cash coming up to here on KOA News Radio. Mandy Connell here.
