"The Maison with Kevin Nation. I wouldn't say I'm a slave to Fashion. I don't worry about designer Brands although I do wear a lot of Ralph Lauren Club only because it fits, I've never worried about the logos on my shirt or the logos on my pants or whatever shoes I was wearing but sometimes you gotta shake your head and wonder about people's desire to wear trendy things. And the thing that really got me thinking about this the other day as I was driving down the road coming back from an appointment, it was 80 some-odd degrees outside and a car comes flying by me on the interstate and the person is wearing a knit ski cap. And you could just tell they were wearing it because it was fashionable. It was stylish. It was cool. It was I don't know what it was because I can't imagine wearing a knit cap unless my ears are cold. I've always had a specific look, I've had my own style if you will, and that stuff to do as a fat man, but I've always found a style that were raised me and people notice it and people recognize it, whether they like it or not, but at least they're kind, but being a slave to Fashion. I can't imagine how tough that's gotta be. I'm blessed that I tested Be My Own Drum, and yes, I leave him or Crocs with a suit. I'm not a slave to anything else.

There’s a Name for the ‘Blah’ You’re Feeling

"Many of you sent me this article that was written by adam grant so he is a organisational psychologists. He's often while i think a few times. He's been on armchair expert with docs record. Such great episodes highly recommend listening to them. He's such a great speaker but anyways he had this article in the new york times. That was all about languishing. And how so. Many of us are feeling this way. And he explains what exactly that is and some ways that you can get out of feeling that way. It's so funny to me. Because i often explain it as feeling blah because i don't know how else to verbalize it and that is literally in the title of this article. So it's called. there's a name for the blah. you're feeling it's called languishing. He describes it as being a dominant emotion of twenty twenty one. And it's interesting because they talk a lot about how when the pandemic i started and it was all over the news and we were on the super high alert mode. Almost like adrenalin was kicking in and we were like wiping down all our groceries and doing everything we could to you know. Follow the guidelines and stay safe and that has kind of worn off now and it's more so he describes it as dulling our motivation and focus. And it's not that were not staying safe now and we don't care about the guidelines it's more so that they have just become a regular part of our everyday life so we're not so much thinking about them anymore. It's just how we're living our life now like every time i get into the car. I'm using hand sanitizer without even thinking about it whereas before all these little changes to how we live our everyday life was a noticeable thing and it was a novel thing so we were constantly thinking about it and it was more of not exciting but it was just we were in that fighter flight mode and now it's just exactly what they describe it as it's very blah. It's interesting because they talk about how it can. Doll your motivation and your focus. And this languishing feeling makes it difficult to concentrate.

How To Teach Your Kids About Money

"All have our own money stories. Is there anything. Guess is outside the research again. I apologize for that. However this is this is our story but looking back now zooming out and looking back at your past are learning moments are situations are teachings that your family taught you about. Money are things you observed now as an adult that drew you to being interested in family finances. Yeah couple of things. Come to mind my. I have awesome parents. So couple things one when i always about probably about ten years old and i'm one of five kids parents my siblings and me down and off. We'd been acting like kind of spoiled or entitled recently. But they sat down and they got out the monopoly in we had and they counted out in monopoly money. They said this is how much we make every month. And it's like a tenure. Although wow like so much money and from that stack. They counted out this. How much are mortgages every month. You know just to live in this house. It cost this much and then they counted out. This is how much our cars cost. This is how much we have to finish to buy groceries and just eat food utility. Just be warm and be able to turn their lights. And basically once they got through all the necessities there was like a a whittal stack at the end and so that was hugely. I opening at the kid to you. Know i. there were several take First of all. We're really lucky. We have all our needs met and we even have a little bit leftover the end you know and just a realistic view of this is how much real world costs. Life is expensive and then You know just to lessen title that we can have some of the things that we want. Kids were really blessed but this is why we say no to some things because this is the lowest staffer working with the end of the

General Motors (GM) Earnings Q1 2021 Crush Expectations

"General motors first quarter profits came in much higher than expected and there are a lot of different ways. We can go here ron. Here's the thing. I'm most curious about. Because one of the things. Mary barra the ceo which gm talked about was the impact of the chip shortage. And and we've talked on this show before about how many different industries are affected by the chip shortage and automotive is certainly on that list. She said the impact for general motors is going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of one and a half to two billion dollars this year and yet. Gm is maintaining their profit guidance for the full fiscal year. How are they pulling off. Well not only maintaining. They're coming in at the high end which is really impressive. Part of it is really tight cost controls so they're bringing more money to the bottom line. Even though revenue is a little bit light down fractionally from last year also the focused on the higher margin pickup trucks. Suv's are helping bring money to the bottom line so you've got really strong demand you've got prices for cars or high used new. An inventory is light so it's a really kind of interesting kind of economic case. Study that they they should teach in college and part of the reason inventory is light is because of this chip shortage. And they're going to have to work through that. Mary barra said the second half of the year she thinks will be strong. But the second quarter which we're in right now could be actually worse and that's where you see the one point five to two point. Four billion potential bite out of profits. But you know they're doing a really wonderful job at controlling those costs and therefore they're able to continue to generate profits continued to guide profits at the high end of the

Playing Fair with Eve Rodsky

"I wanted to talk to eve because even for me. A professional feminist this balance has been elusive. And it's humbling. Because feminists have been trying to address this. For many decades nineteenth century feminists created a professional field of home economics to bring value to domestic labor second way feminist tried renegotiating the terms of marriage and coined the phrase the politics of housework recognizing that was often seen as a personal struggle is part of a whole system that doesn't value or support caregiving and domestic work. Today many women in higher paying jobs outsource chelsea karen housework but that work is still being done by other women lower paying jobs who are often women of color. Covert has really laid bare. How imperfect and unjust the system is but as. We re emerge rebuild. That insight may give us an opportunity to renegotiate the terms or as eradicate would say. Reveal the deck. You've created a system that recognizes the true value of caregiving and seeks to redistribute it like all feminists revolutions. It started with a very personal moment. And that's where we began our conversation. I did have a series of experiences. That sort of changed. The course of my life and one of those experiences was a text. My husband sent me nine years ago. That said i'm surprised you didn't get blueberries and the passenger seat of my car. I had a diaper bag and a breast pump at a newborn baby at home and amidst all this chaos racing to get my older son zach at the time he was three. I had a client contract in my lap. And every time i would hit the brakes. Penn would serve stabbed me in the vagina making me completely. Saban pullover to the side of the road. I live in la now and so we don't take traffic lightly so for me to pull over and be laid to pick up zach. Something was really wrong in my marriage. And that was a the fact that i was the fulfill his smoothing needs and literally every single other task for my family was seemingly falling in my lap at the time but more importantly i did not have the career marriage combo i thought i was going to have all those realizations. Were sort of raining down on me that day. When sesame that tax

Mental Toughness: Dealing With Fear

"When we're talking about developing mental toughness and effort to overcome fear. What we're talking about is again this remaining composed and clear headed and the face of great or even small danger and that danger can be defined in many different forms It could be something like a car accident. Something that is really extreme. It could be depending hurricane. That's coming up the coast to your house. You know that that could cause an immense amount of fear but it could also be something very small like what's going to happen if my client doesn't show up today you know that's still some level of fear. I have a very small theory. Maybe if i can ever get adam back on the show. I should discuss this this theory with them. And i've i've tried to look around before as to whether or not there is actually a philosophy based on this but i've been unsuccessful at finding one but i have this theory. Sorry theory is a theory. I've theory that every thing in our life is somehow motivated by fear and so the topic of this episode of being able to use utilize mental toughness. In order to overcome. Fear is kind of puts me into this giant loop of of thinking. Because if i want to argue that every action we take every decision that we come upon is in some way linked back to a fear than how do we overcome that fear. Is it

"Well there's a there's a lot of discussion about driverless vehicles and how that will change how we view cars um when we become perhaps you know instead on future a more passive um participant in in our trip in the car so there's a lot of discussion around how that may change how much we not much time you spend in cars than how much time we spend on uh much money we spend on them when we no longer dumb perhaps are so attached to them that we feel as much in control of them and we we had there's a thin that drivers have that they feel part of the car when they're driving it in controlling the driving as we move perhaps towards more or at least partially driverless cars there's the fence that may be that relationship between the human in the car will will evolve you know i hadn't thought of that but yeah if i don't get to determine how fast i go and i don't get to determine you know how i'm going to make this corner and all than maybe i don't care so much maybe a maybe the car just as like get not a train it's just it's going to get me there but i am not going to be in love with my car like maybe i would otherwise be well that's one reason some people are resisting the idea of driverless cars they some people enjoy driving in most of us they think spend more time complaining about driving in complaining about traffic and having pick our kids everywhere but there's still a group of car enthusiasts and driving enthusiasts who enjoy driving for whom the notion that a car would become driverless is anathema they really don't like that idea at all there are other parts of the population that are resisting driverless cars because it's a little bit unsettling kid to think about giving up that control.

"I imagine google is kicking themselves right now wondering why they didn't figure it out but i think for quite a while now people had thought it's going to be the headset it's got to be the head said it's got to be the headset where this happens because the you don't want augmented reality to be a thing you pull out of your pocket on the phone necessarily you wanted to be something that's ambiance all around you that were you walk out of your house in the morning you see these virtual pathways that that don't actually exist in front of you telling you where to go telling you know signs around the row hey there's a great restaurant there i can tell without actually walking into the restaurant without actually looking yelp because i can see this over lay in front of my vision that's there all the time and if you have to pull out the phones do that you know there's a bit of a a bit of friction they're in that you have to you have to decide to do this the same way i've got a um a rearview video camera in my car my car like all cars of from 2016 on said citing its requirement as when he eighteen had a builtin review cameras that when you check your car into reverse camera comes on you can see what's behind you don't crashing anybody aumf run over any small children and things like that you can buy in aftermarket one of these devices for a card that's uh that's earlier than that that doesn't have this review camera but people i don't think people use those because it requires when they get into their car they have to say okay i wanna use my rearview camera application and they have put their phone on their dashboard they have to stick it up there and they say okay now i'm ready to backup where the could've just looked over their shoulder and gone on their business already said the a d i think was that it had to be in the classes.
