"All right, welcome back. Adam, what is your recommendation? All right, I have two, but I promise to go faster than I usually do because I know we're always burning this segment nice. One is if you're in a place where you're qualify if you are an adult and if restrictions on the qualifications where you are, get your COVID vaccine booster. Now's a good time for it. It's great. You get science proofed against a horrible pandemic. You're much less likely to get sick. You're much less likely to transmit the disease to other people. This is great, such a deal. That's why one recommendation. By the recommendation is there's a new Star Trek show on. There's actually a couple. It's one of those one of the most wonderful times of year when there's more than one Star Trek show on at a time. Start to discovery started again. But there's a kids show called Star Trek prodigy. I've watched the first couple of episodes of it. And it's really delightful and it feels like Star Trek and it's just it's a lot of fun. So Star Trek prodigy. What makes it more of a kid show than any of the other star treks? The new crew are younger and they're sort of, they've escaped from a prison planet. They've managed to steal an apparently abandoned starfleet starship and tricked the holographic commander of it who is captain janeway from starting Voyager. The actress doing a voice. So it's kids who are doing it and they're kind of learning lessons, but you know, whatever original series they were all learning lessons too, so I don't mind that too much. And it's just gorgeous 3D animation. Oh, it's animated. Yeah. It's a cartoon. And it's just been a lot of fun so far. So that's my recommendation. Nice. So it sounds like, after someone gets their booster shot, if they're just experiencing temporary mild side effects, they should watch the new Star Trek. If you feel a little achy, you can have some Star Trek for a treat. Why not? Lauren, what's your recommendation? I second the booster. Go get your booster shot folks. If you're eligible for it, and then when you are relaxing on the.

"Me guess you love inside out i do. I think it was really smart and a really smart way to teach kids about emotions and feelings. I thought it was very clever. Happy oh yeah absolutely. Yeah but in just a a smart way to teach kids how to deal with feelings and how to work. That's that's usually the one that i usually talk to. everybody about. Incredible for me is my top film. The charitable so wanted to those sensational but inside out. It's truly a very good film. And i think a lot of people seemingly relate to that film even more than most of the life. I usually point that one out. Because i think that connects us a lot more also a huge monsters inc. fan. I love those not really for me. I don't know why. I really like the first one when they started to do like monster university and in all of that kind of stuff. I was kind of like Well there you go. And if don't didn't really like all of those movies. I did watch them all but didn't really like them but the first monsters inc. love go go but light year for me. I'm really excited for chris evans again. You didn't hear much in the trailer. But i'm sure he has got a lot to say in the in the movie when it comes up next year looking forward to it. I just thought the trailer looked absolutely beautiful. What is already some pictures. Best animation that i have seen the way the rocket bursts into space and the cloud trail to me to me. I look those things because some of the background that i have and the individual that i worked with that is there now at pixar. Just really just complementing. The entire team picked because i really think after a couple of films there were pretty good Luca is not gotten over as well with people. I think that was just something that was put out there and of course went straight to dizzy plaza and really didn't get the same vibes. I think for a lot of people that and i don't think people went out of their way to catch it too much. I think this should be now. That's going to be out in theaters. It should bring pixar back on the map as the preeminent animation studio. Yeah i agree with that for sure. It's going to do all the things that are wanted to do. I just on a very personal level. Am i gonna spend money to go and see it probably not. It looks great. But i probably will go see it in theaters. Are you know. It's going to land on disney. Plus though see that's the thing is because they they know it's gonna end up dizzy plus at some point in time. Yeah but what are your thoughts up there on light year. The story behind buzz light. You're one of the favorites from the toy story series. This is his origin story about the real. Well okay. it's animated but the almost real story of us light year shares. Her thoughts pop culture cosmos at yahoo dot com keeping on this train as we're going along with pop culture update that we've got for you speaking of space and going into space star trek prodigy that landing on nickelodeon and this is something that we talked about just before the show about this new cartoon animated series done by course in conjunction with paramount and the whole star trek universe. That's going to deal with a lot of different things. A lot of different characters but one of the characters that's involved in this is going to be from star trek. Voyager in captain janeway. So i want to hear your thoughts on this. I really liked the movie. I really liked seen so far because it it's geared towards a younger audience and this is something star trek needs to do to evolve. This is something once said about star wars. is that it was catering to an older dying market for lack of a better term and that it needed to go ahead and grow new audience star. Trek has always been unfortunately in the battle between star trek and star. Wars has been distant number two. Now this is one way they can go ahead and maybe build for the future with this show. Yeah and it's about time because you you're hard pressed and you know it's going to be sweeping generalization. So i apologize for that but you are kind of hard pressed to find. You know a big time star trek fan under thirty right now and i saw a lot of conversations actually recently randomly on twitter. That was they. Were talking about this exact thing. Like how old were you when you discovered star trek. How did you discover star trek and a lot of the the replies that this tweet was getting was you know. I watched it with my dad or my mom. Got me interested in it when i was little. But they're talking to people who are still thirty. Plus even when you're talking about the reboot movies that garnered a new audience over thirty now too. Because i remember that came out in two thousand eight. I believe yeah exactly. So i think that star trek. I don't know who is kind of looking after things. Or who is the point person on all of the star trek stuff right now but they're making a lot of in my opinion. The right kinds of moves agree. Yeah so with below decks. That's on tv right now. Which obviously you still want meant for kids. But it's it's still something that is going to target a younger audience like an under thirty audience. So having this show that's gonna show up on nickelodeon is going to be like a gateway drug for kids to be like. Yeah i i really liked the star trek cartoon and then Have a foundation show at discovery. Yes it's really good. People need to go out of their way to see. I'm just sorry that it isn't a week by week. Cbs series share. I wish it was because it would be better than anything they have on the slate. It is something that people need to go to paramount plus ac- star trek picard. That's for the nostalgia. People at a you can take it or leave it. I mean again. We talked about star trek card. I'll watch it. But i'm not exactly enthused by it because it was very uneven in its first season but star trek discovery has really grown into a really well made series. I think it you're right way that they're going about it because they're catering to all these different audiences and was star trek lower deck's the sheer brand of comedy is just like something that's out there. That is is common in today's marketplace in the modern era and. I really think they're trying you like you said they're really trying to cater to a newer younger audience. And that's the way you do it. They're doing a great job. Yeah absolutely and at some point. You know dad's gonna walk into the room with the dvd in his hand and go. Have you heard of con- or at the movies that's the only thing that's the last beacon is getting a successful movie because no matter how much star trek two thousand eight is really watched and rewatch. Because as one of the most rewatch movies of the last decade it still garnered only four hundred million dollars at the box office. And there's not been a huge blockbuster hit for them ever. I think maybe you could say star trek to wrath of khan but if you're talking about inflation two dollars whatnot you could say that score was a big success but outside of that really has not been a movie that has transcended. That's gotten people talking to the point. Where hey this is really something you've got to be a part of and that's i think the last beacon of that's the last stop on this adventure for them. In this full reboot of star trek. Yeah i know that in star trek. We don't talk about kibera. But i wonder if they took a series and explored some of the mythos that you know the star trek series in the star trek. Movies don't really seem all that keen in exploring a little bit. I wonder if anything like that would take off with an audience. Because it's a it's a big mystery about gosh. i'm gonna get it wrong. I.

"To say don't be severe. Because i was whereas superheroes but You know with kind of like you have a bit more understanding of the world before you get into this To not haunted with regret and sorrow for the rest of your life. I mean honestly. I'm i i would like them to do more with solomon grundy Because it's kind of been this keys throughout it. We get it's like they have the gem model. I know it costs a lot to bring him out but trauma on and unless they're saving them for something big like maybe towards the end of this season or something like a grundy centric episode or something. Maybe we gotta beats up calypso bill because we're we're a little over halfway because yeah this past tuesday was episode Thirteen episodes this season. So yeah i mean you know. I like it. It's really good. I really wish i could watch it. Live i have to go back and watch the cw app for it or watch it to by tv. Thought it was going to record it for me was it became available or at least say. Hey it's available in my library but it's not doing that. Switzer annoy whatever reason channel. Eleven isn't in my streaming service for television the internet so it's very annoying and i don't know what episode of the supposedly still one episode episode this season. We're getting jake eric as our john. Wesley shipp is jay. Garrick so good. He'll come back you know it's as good now. He's happy to come back to do the job and no And what else is out there. Oh below decks. yes you said which. Which was the last episode. You saw this week but everything before that i saw. Okay so what happened in the last episode you saw refresh my memory here my thing i want you know. Sometimes i'll watch to rose. I wanna make sure you know. Some of these are bleeding. Show well you know. I mean they have in the last i. I remember the last. Watch it yeah. It had a very cool ending. I watched the first the first six episodes. Oh the last one. I watched with spy one nina where the politics or the the pad lacks the paddle. Yeah i love the pad lex An awesome or miss your stupid. Well you know the thing about the pad. Let's is that was actually doing some deep research into the pads less about it. You'll give me your codes now or the sorry. The pack leads the pamphlets. Yes lapac leads and the pack. Leads aren't stupid. They just don't have a very sophisticated language. And you know it's interesting because they have the guy from the Culture that only speaks in metaphor on the cerita says well the so. You have these two cultures. One whose languages inscrutable because it's sore nate and the packwood's whose language is inscrutable. Because it's so basic and the idea that you know this culture because one of the things they were saying about the pack lenses they also knew a lot of deception. And they're very good at you know looking non-threatening and then striking which of course is you know. Useful talent the half or any any any Predatory species. So i find it interesting. How the packers have involved. I actually think they're based also the krill from David strikeforce which were kind of similarly a scavenger race Although you know. Especially but i kind of feel like both david and the guy who created the pamphlets within the same idea. So what does they were. Just idiots and they created warp drives. You know they just you know sort of how to make it work and they just because you know piece of alien unprinted. It's all the time. I engineered it or just talking in. Do whatever they had didn't know works. Just know that you push this button. And that's what makes it go. Oh can i just give a shout out to the cast of lower deck's because I don't know if you watch the ready room episode wil wheaton did with the cast like the main four. And i guess they said I thought i heard this before. But yeah they. They recorded this entire season from home. So we all have something about that. Is the thing about anime show. Yeah heavy new. Like six cakes. Yeah with slight variations as director. You like that's what the director does the editor does is they just take those takes. Say move this this this this them outfit and there. We know that's how we do. It has it. What's the name of the green one tandy. whatever. I think that that actress she was like she said she did the whole thing from insider closet. There was no noise and stuff. Oh yeah you have to do it the way you have to do it. You know it's as with all of this podcasting in broadcasting in recording stuff. You need a silent and you need to do your work Yeah i you know i just. I really liked a blow decks. The last episode is very neat because it does have as its central idea. The idea that know. You can't always assume what you think is real israel and just to give you a sense. The about you know. Superintendent eight is just turning evil and that apparently starts has oprah's for those guys all the. Oh the but the last episode. We're talking about. I love how they were calling the capital captain janeway. She's like i'm not janeway. Well yeah 'cause they don't well she's the january isn't that yes. This is the thing about language. They're not saying you're janeway. Yes they're saying. You are the your aging janeway you know. What a janeway is. You occupy the position of a genuine way. It is similar to again that that other races habit of just talking in those those terms of a of of a metaphor. Where except that instead of. You know shocker. When the walls fell it's like what is a current term. We use as a. Oh she's a janeway. Yes so really rather than talking. In terms of schick strean quotes. They talk in terms of.

"Probably not as good as we would have. I would love to see q. Like rolling up to the enterprise like the wolf like solving a just like killing motherfuckers. He wore fell. And everybody they look like a dork. The ideal of tarintino star trek It's pretty cool. But i think that. I i i would kinda like for it to i. Huge a next generation. I would love for it to be in that universe next generation generations. Well i know they're all the same universe by guess in that timeline. I next generation. I really liked the s. nine. I love those two particular actually when i really loved. We watch a few years ago. We're going through them but Regina not a fan of next generation loving. it's nine. oh. I wonder so. S. nine was always way more soap opera. Like like to me. And i loved it but i thought it played way more on the relationship stuff than the other series is. I wonder if that has a role. I wonder if that's why she likes the more like people drama as opposed to like pugh boom. That might be had because she's really big into the characters of one of those. That are i prefer next generation. Just because i'm one of those that like Cisco can't balloon meet certain. No starfleet captain within that stuck his space station brought. He's not he's not he's no good flying. You know who else. I really loved. Janeway captain janeway from jerry. Was i think is like maybe the most underrated star wars or star trek. Excuse me in signed a death shit anyway. Iraq damon i. I agree with you. I think wager is really underrated. I think probably because it was on it was on. Upn right yes yes. Yeah i think that maybe that might have had something to do with it. But she's an awesome captain. Mary commanding presence. Yeah i really liked her. And i like the the hologram doctor. He was great Toco he was pretty good..

"Says a great guy. Great actor got to meet him a couple times conventions super nice guy and being any better so he thank. You would've been better if they would have cast bob accardo and it. Because he originally roy edition for that. Yeah it's one of those things it's been so long now. You can't see anybody playing other than what was acid hazarded. Yeah yeah yeah. He's he's the doctor it's not with his personality and his. It's it's hard to its hind. Hindsight is not twenty twenty. It's it's very convoluted definitely definitely well phil. Why don't we go ahead and jump into voyager season three and as i mentioned earlier we're going to be taking a look at all. These episodes coming up through season three of voyager. We're gonna go episode by episode. I'll read a little show description just to help us remember what the episode was about. And we'll discuss it if it's essential viewing that matt absolutely has to see as a part of the mission of this show or is it like we'll put it on the extra viewing list because it's good episode and we really like it but it's really like if we're being honest it's really not and then there's the ones that like age-ish this episode should be erased from memory and we're just gonna skip over it and we're never going to mention it talk about it again okay. Maybe it's not that bad. But we'll we'll see where where that goes Now the extra viewing episodes those are available on our patriot. Feed actually as we record this. Fill a brand new extra view. Episode just went up Who so yeah. That was four last month for the month of july. We're recording this a couple of weeks early from sh. If you guys are interested in that you'd go over to patriot dot com slash me up and that will get you all that information about how you guys can do that and be a part of joining the show and let you know about some new stuff. We have coming up here at the show as well. Now couple of ground rules will have here fill to partners or multiple episode story arcs. We generally treat as one unless they're like really really long for example in deep space. Nine the circle trilogy we did all three episodes as one because that was a single-story think there are a few parties in this particular series season. I don't know that there's also like we can do something weird like we did another again. Another nine one. We took from the same season. Two different gold do cod episodes. That were like one was a sequel of the other but they were separated by like ten episodes over the course of the season where we smash them together and made them one episode. Because it gave us it gave us a discussion of who goal to cut is which is really important going forward so we we can play this but for the most part we are going to be watching these in date. Order mixing them in with void. Not wager makes deep space nine season five. Because these are the two seasons airing concurrently. We're also going to get the movie first contact in this season as well so we will be watching that. That's not up for discussion. it will happen So we'll get that now. I have my idea my list of where. I kind of think everything should go. But we're gonna talk it out. We'll see if you agree. We'll see if we can move them around abc. Got some question marks. There are some that. I'm like i don't really know and that's we are so phil if you're ready for it. Why don't we go ahead and jump in to voyager season. Three all right. Well we'll start at the beginning where you should always start with basics. Part to actually. We're gonna go ahead and do this one because we're watching basics part one and will attach those. Actually i think people listen to this. We've already done that one But for completion sake as part two is the crew has been marooned by the case on on a primitive planet and jane the crew had to fight for their lives while suitor and paris and the doctor or left on board voyager and try to sabotage everything to get the crew back. Needless to say they win and obstacle. There we go so i think we should watch it especially the suitor hurter. Absolutely absolutely all right. Let's move on then episode. Two from season three flashback. This is basically what happened. While the rest of star trek six was happening What happened with sue to bach has a battle debilitating childhood memory and captain janeway interests mind via mind mel because to mind melts. Anyone and everyone who walks and transports them back to the us. Excelsior with captain sulu drops them right in the middle of that movie. And like i said we discover what he was doing while his friends were on trial This was the anniversary of star trek. This is their episode that they did on voyager to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of star trek. But and it's cool to see sulu and yeoman rand she's back in it would never know. That's her though. If if you didn't know the actresses name but what what do you think fill is this. Is this a necessary gig. Gotta watch this one or not. So i gotta say yes. Just because of the to walk backstory instills in is huge gap I don't know if it's been mentioned before. If i just know it from other stuff but knowing that to serve in starfleet left for fifty years comes back. Serves the nba to know you. He served sulu and the whole situation for me to yes. I mean a lot of people will say. Oh yeah he's gonna mind somebody here. We go right But to get those flashbacks it just kind of the nostalgia and and more to vox. Back story. I think it's hard to say no to this one for me. I hear you but is there anything. Is there anything in his backstory. The serving with starfleet and all of that that we don't get in a future episode that they're not like hey. I used to do this in like okay. He got it there like is. Is there any pertinent out of this particular episode. Because i love seeing sulu the magic dropping them in the movie as if he was there when they filmed the first time. Like that's super cool. They got all those guys back. I think that's it's definitely at least an extra viewing for me but this is the first one. I had a question mark on because it is a big episode. You know yeah. I can see i can see having as an extra instead of a for sure. Yes because of that. I mean the stuff that happens doesn't really affect the storyline going forward percent. Okay let me ask you. This is the only thing that was sticking with me was for character development. But even that. Yeah it's it's still not really it doesn't come up again a future. His experience with captain sulu or anything. So i think nostalgia may be overtaking. Anything that's That's and that's the tough part about the seat is going okay. Let me ask you this. Because here's the other side is there in in. Voyager gets back to this in a way that doesn't actually do a ton it does but not not as much as tng dead or even t- os. Is there some big like moral some message that the producers are trying to teach us through this particular episode or is this. Hey it's just cool to see to. Vox backstory in sulu. Like is it just in service. I think so Yeah okay is much as i hate to do it. I'm gonna keep this one on xtra viewing because that's where originally had it. But this was this like i remember going back through watching it like i watched the full episode just going. Please give me something. I could do because it feels good. It almost feels dirty not to but i like do like that but yeah i'm with you you've convinced me and i will. I will say this just for the record. There is no limit or minimum number of episodes from each season. We're doing so if we get to the end there's only four four episodes doing there's only four if there was twelve. Then we'll do twelve it. typically i find. We're in that that eight ish category give or take one or two That's typically where. I find where we are but you know like i said we'll we'll take it for what it's what it's worth. That's pretty good this little third season. You're watching so it is when you consider they're you know they're producing twenty four twenty six episodes of season. Yeah yeah well. Welcome to the nineties network. Television were out. i was gonna say i just. I just started to do series with my son on netflix..

"Those laws have passed in a lot of these states but second of all. I just don't think that the democrats donald trump is on the ballot. He's a great turnout machine for everybody and him not being on the ballot is is for congressional candidates virtually outperformed herm. I mean pretty much. Every republican congressional candidate including senatorial seats outperform trump in the last election cycle and which is why republicans outperformed in congress with trump not on the ballot in two thousand twenty two. I think that republicans are they've taken away the biggest democratic talking point. That's the reason why pelosi keeps saying from january. Sixth over and over and over again. She wants that report to commit next year. She wants to claim that all the republicans were complicit in that. But guess what. Americans are not into this. They're not into this. Trump has not been in office for six months at this point. The president of the united states is a doddering senile old buffoon. Who can't hold it together. And it's presiding over the most radical agenda of our lifetime and on whom they depend. Yes the that doddering. Old senile precedent is their only hope. If god forbid something were to happen to him. Kamala harris ken not win a national election. Come la- harris couldn't win a prowler. -fornia california primary is the worst politician. I have ever seen in my entire life and the democrats know this. They know how fragile says the thing for biden is that recognizes that because he's the ones from their so they've really put themselves in rock and hard place by knows that he's a wondering president he also knows the only way he goes down in history as do a bunch of radical stuff in this one term and he knows that by the end of next year. Hannon control congress. Let's before of the worst politician. Let's let's not pretend to hillary. Clinton never existed. Hillary hillary hillary one votes. But i think the thing though on the worst politician thing because i liked her. I didn't like her. I think she awful but i i said she might do well from the beginning and she's a terrible politician with people which is pretty good behind the scenes. She's pretty. I mean the women. What do you mean by that. Exactly all right. I don't wanna get your tail but she but in at least in terms of the presidency. I'm not talking about california. In terms of the presidency. The woman ended up the vice president of the united. An easy woman black indian. That's it she's that's the whole reason they put up. They thought she was gonna perform much better. I think the. I figured out by the way. That's it there was no other reason because they actually thought much better than they were shocked in. The black community didn't respond to her because they were very aware of her record as a prosecutor and they just did they were not about comma harris. She's also fundamentally. She has. Hillary clinton b-actor where she just mentally. Ill likable every time. She speaks like she just looked so bad night. Next to in that debate she looks petty And i think that they realized that minnesota hitched onto. Joe biden's waggin because who else i've booker. I mean i've certain lifelong dreams one of them is to play. Brahms with condie and other one is to you know. Go and have a long interview with thomas when thursday play poker with komo harris because i will take. I mean that that women's poker face. She has the worst poker. The history of politics actually just about actress. Whatever comes down. So here's the question. Everything i want to take a member questions. From members over delaware dot com. You can become a member right now. Failure dot com slash subscribe and. This question is the whole group. Though the olympics have gotten a little woke you remember the nineteen eighty winter olympics and lake placid when the united states hockey team defeated the soviets and went on to win gold. I'm just thinking about it. Do you think we will ever get back to that funny to think that the country actually bonded over the communist hate and how quickly we have forgotten that communism used to be the common enemy russia. We'll beat us i. I don't think we will. We're not going to get back to that anytime soon. In terms of You know that that sense of national unity and cheering together. Because the thing. That's lost. And i and i think this is why people find for example. The women's soccer team to be so disgusting and we were happy when they lost. And i certainly was It's just there's this sense of gratitude for the country that's been lost and that's that's what that's a lot of patriotism really is it's it's a. It's being grateful for the west by our country. And i think we got a whole generation of people multiple generations that haven't been raised with that. You don't have an american pastime anymore right so the because we don't have an idea of what americans are uniting around how this is a very interesting thing that but i've been a little under the weather not with kobe. Whatever you're going to catch from his far far worse. But but i went home from work early yesterday because i was taking some prescriptions and just needed some rest and as i was laying in bed i watched an episode. The pilot episode of a show from the nineties called star trek deep space nine. And i'm a big trekkie of watched every episode of every star trek series except deep space nine and the the the real hardcore trekkie. Say it's the best. I just never got into it and i was laying there second. I thought well. I'm going to watch it. Download this episode. I'm watching it. It's famous for being the first star trek. That had a black lead black commanding officer. Because i hadn't prepared to talk about. I don't know the actress name off the top of my head But the the characters name is is cisco and this was a major moment in the nineties. Star trek was a major franchise connection racial major show and they gave us captain janeway. Who is the first female captain. That made big news And just before that they gave us commander sisko who was the first black lead. And i was watching the show i was so struck by how disingenuous this racial moment is that we live in right now because here you had this this actor playing a role and the role was a twenty fourth century. Starfleet commanding officer right. And we know if you've ever watched the next generation in particular jerry utopian and in the future humans were a little bit more collectivist. And we're a little bit more evolved than we have all these common thoughts about what it means to be a person what it means to be a cinch shannon and this after gives a performance and which essentially the role that playing would not have been dramatically. Different had been played by a white actor. And in fact there's a scene where he's on the hollow deck where you can make all your fantasies come true. He's on the holiday with his son and they're playing a game of baseball and he's having to explain to this this non-core portrayal alien life form. Who doesn't understand the physical universe or time. He's trying to explain to them. What memories are and what imagination and how. We linear corp. Beings can move ourselves out of this moment and into moments. Don't even exist our past aspirations for our future this game of baseball that he plays with his son. And the because it's on the holodeck it's like a. It's like a nineteen thirties. Game of baseball. You know it's it's it's a different world even from now any part of speeches about how this is. This is the great pastime. You this is one of our our great endearing pastimes and how illogical it is in its way but what we're really doing when we engage in sport is we're facing as linear beings were facing an almost unlimited number of possibilities that don't become a predictable reality until you've already done them. You can't know what's going to happen anyway all of this to save this very aspirational speech about essentially about humanity from a western point of view. I mean he was he was declaring. What's great about america. Although they certainly didn't say americans in the twentieth century and a white actor could've played the role in hispanic after could've played. The role race was.

"Though the olympics gotten a little woke you have to remember. The nineteen eighty winter olympics in lake placid when the united states hockey team defeated the soviets and went on to win gold. I'm hyped just thinking about it. Do you think think we will ever get back to that funded to think that the country actually bonded over the communist hate and how quickly we have forgotten. The communism used to be the common enemy. Russia will be i. I don't think we will. We're not gonna get back to that anytime soon in terms of You know that that sense of national unity and cheering together. Because the thing. That's lost. And i i think this is why people find for example. The women's soccer team to be so disgusting and we were happy when they lost. And i know i certainly was. It's just there's this sense of gratitude offer the country that's been lost and that's that's what that's a lot of patriotism really is it's it's being grateful for the blessing given by our country and i think we've got a whole generation of people multiple generations and haven't been raised with that. Don't have an american pastime anymore right so because we don't we don't have an idea of what americans are uniting around. You know. this is a very interesting thing that i've been a little under the weather. Not with kovic. Whatever you're going to catch from far far worse. But i but i went home from work early yesterday because i was taking some prescriptions and just needed some rest and as i was laying in bed i watched an episode. The pilot episode of a show from the nineties called star trek deep space nine. And i'm a big trekkie of watched every episode of every star trek series except deep space nine and the the the real hardcore trekkie. Say it's the best. I never into it and i was laying there sick and i thought well i'm going to watch it. I download this episode. I'm watching it. It's famous for being the first star. Trek had a black lead. You black commanding officer i. Because i hadn't prepared to talk about it. Don't know the actor's name off the top of my head but the characters name is is cisco and this was a major moment in the nineties star. Trek was a major franchise star trek the next generation of major show And they gave us. You know captain janeway. Who was the first female captain that made big news in just before that they gave us commander sisko who was the first black lead and as i was watching the show i was so struck by how disingenuous this racial moment is that we live in right now..

Because i'm wearing a name tag based on the character playing when i'm there It is because that would be one of the things to advise his Makes it easier to communicate with your character. It's again a stealth way to do it. You see because some people just aren't that great or they don't want to dress up in. If you don't wanna participate we will. You could just put pass and your name tag but he like you say today and playing instead of hello. My name is today and playing the role of And then you put it in. You could put a win again. Maria's never enjoyed the respect of her fellow room or it's considered to be one of the weakest amongst the seven. She brooded imploded. Her years away crafting bargains planning coons or petty grasping at power ended abruptly. When lou ruined lord. Kazu sabotaged her efforts to escape earth. All our city of edrissa was encapsulated in an impenetrable global force while she her people and the city were locked. Inside of a time leap. We're living the same week over and over again for ten thousand years as the ages were on. Zen edrissa faded to myth without with most calling the intrepid city castilian with people and city now freed from her temporal prison. By meddling of heroes. Rural areas has stepped out of time to reassert her rule and her nation back to its former heights of prestige and prosperity. All right so bellemare aus a little bit. Older seem super fierce a little petty. I'm gonna to kate. Mulgrew pick who i read in orange is the new black and she was on your gas safe. You don't know who captain janeway is. I didn't know her name. But i the moment i saw her gargoyles. She was tanya rachel to tanya on on that long list of star trek people in gardens. She's just great She plays the leader like a ruthless leader super well and I love her. Okay so for me. I am going to go with a very well known actress who has actually played a queen before helen. Mirren you didn't take mine. I thought you were about to do love helen. Mirren helen. mirren is a fantastic actress. Played queen elizabeth two in the queen. So there you go but how it miraz to like samal bellemare. Es has some struggling with us. I need i need somebody. Who's a little more heavyweight kim over the perfect casting. Actually so you know all right. Y'all kathy bates check back up. That's okay. I've got some just when just i don't know her portrayal in american horror story has just you know. I cannot remember the lady's name from new orleans that was cheated such a good job that was she could totally be a lord. That's a pretty good one. I thought jordan was gonna take my dame judi dench. I actually i thought she has that queen presence and she can play the nice. You know victoria style queens queen elizabeth like she just she does it all and i forget. Love judy dench. I also just when. I was picturing anything. Apparently not but. When i speak during her i was imagining her. As the countess from the murder on the orient express these are some. I'm glad i don't have to choose. That was definitely a good choice. Considering that was one of my first thoughts was dame judi dench but actually. I'm following a little bit along the jessica line here where i'm going with a star. Trek actress famed in discovery for playing philip. Joe as well as the empress michelle you I absolutely love her as an actress. Just internal. she's a little bit more picky than i think. Baladara marsh sabina like vindictive murderous side if you ever the mirror universe version of her character in star trek discovery dot. Yeah yeah so. These are choices. Good luck y'all man. I'm pick man. That's that is a tough one and as always go to the read it to jay over their vote for kate no grew over. Judy dench kathy bates. Y'all can't kathy bates is my backup. "Once again. I'm glad you're with me on that i. I have willing suspension of disbelief. That's all i can give you on the i'll say go. But a gonna keep twisting around. Like i feel you gotta give me a little better explanation as to how how you dig yourself out of that hole. Yeah it's it's a typical brannon braga episode though they brain broke up so Ski the action. I am bringing lincoln pillar cleanup. Yeah so speaking of which they didn't bring in pillar this one but they needed him because this show apparently the script for this episode was about five pages longer a normal script but it ran eight minute short once they shot it and they spent like two extra days or day and a half of writing new scenes and then shooting new scenes just to fill in the extra eight minutes so matt and they're like i don't like we don't understand it. Does show was five pages longer than a typical rain short. We don't get it. I i guess all the stuff in the beginning was pillar. Lakeside with knee looks and vegetables and stuff. And hey samantha. Can you fix this. Oh and i have a problem with this over here to the intro to this show felt really long this little note. This episode had the longest teaser or any episode of season. Two dairy go and that's probably not crazy. That's where they stuff in a lot of extra stuff usually if they need it psych. Here's here's the opener won't matter leader. I mean they introduced us samantha. But like i said they could have done that in a third time church Just getting pregnant. you're pregnant okay. Yeah ever walking pregnant get her food and then i got a contraction. That's all you need. So is that you have i have. I have two quick little side production notes that thought forcing a one She references the study by kent state. University yeah combining. The studies completely made up kent state university. Where brannon braga. The episode ryder went to school. Okay that's the only reason that gets a shot out. It's how much they brought it up. Yeah yet just just a little head nod and then This episode actually the the concept for this was around back during next generation and they were having troubles writing this episode for next generation. Come and so when it counted came back around. And there's like hey let's pull this episode back out and see what we can do something with it. The writing staff which is a lot of them came over from next gen. We're all like now. We're not going to touch that one. We tried that one. We tried it. No we're not and brandon ragas like the guy who's walking into do it whatever and ultimately what they did was they said we have to narrow it down who it focuses on. So let's kill off a couple of characters and let's knock unconscious for most of the episode. So i cast knocked out and harry kim's gone and maybe you know like knock all that out and just focus on fewer characters and then they could do it like that's what they wound up doing by it was this was a carryover from an exchange and it. It's amazing when you begin to research. How many story ideas. They had for one that they didn't do. And they wind up bringing them back for or other episodes. So all right matt. Well i'm gonna. I'm gonna bring this back to our brand new segment. What would you have done. Oh by matt. you're you're on. the ship. Other other ship is the you're in the situation. You're captain janeway. Two ships are there duplicated. You're on the messed up ship. Okay i'm gonna put you on the messed up ship. You're looking down the pipe but what all's going on would you have just gone. You know what since we're duplicates ward while we just blow ourselves up so you guys take the power and you guys get home. Would you have done it. What would you have done. I would have a really hard time doing that. Yeah i mean like you said even if you're the duplicate like you wanna fight for your own life and so. I think i have a hard time doing that. But at the same time i think i don't think i would ever make captain on starship. You're the you're the card in the blue outfit. Not the red. Yeah got it got it. Yeah i i'm lucky. I'm just glad. I'm on this side of the conversation asking the question rather than having to answer art matt. Well that's to do it here for us. I guess on this episode of deadlock. I'll i'll officially ask you. Did you like the episode. would you wanna watch again. Do you even understand why it's part of our run. This may be one of those. You like a good episode but why is it. Do you get those three things. The first two. yes okay. The third one wise part of the run. I mean i don't know if there's something if it just reference later or if it's to do the deans or if it's to do with something that happens with kim like that could be thing. Maybe that's my best. Guess is at this point other than that. yeah. I don't have a definite. Oh yeah this is why i was here. Yeah i'm not gonna give you why you're just gonna have to wait and find out all right if anybody out there wants to know why i do. Go into detail with that on our charting. The course episode for voyager season two. That's a handful of episodes. Back in the podcast. You guys can go check that out. You want to find out more about that matt. Would you like to know we're watching next week. That would be useful in pulling her audible. Matt oh boy. I'm pulling an audible and while since you've done that from our charting the course episode for deep space nine. We're going back over to face. Not from that episode. I we decided to leave this particular episode out and to have a different episode. Come in and i'm calling an audible. I'm going to switch them. The episode that was in is an episode called hard time. I'm going to give that to you as an extra viewing. I would love for you to watch this episode. This is the quintessential o'brien must suffer episode. I've talked to you about that like there's a sort of whatever the writers are endowed. Just make o'brien suffer and it is a deeply moving fantastic episode. But i'm realizing where we are in the run of of deep space nine. This is a side story and this this does not work in what we need. I will also say. I've been looking forward and the episode. We are going to watch an episode called accession or extension accession says. I don't know it's one of those. You'll see a promise you. It's an accession excess. Acc ss iowan accession. Please don't ask me to use it in a exceptions. Yeah that that's a weird word and he said it's ds nine it's nine. Yeah yes it's four india's nine I think it's in order it. It's episode say like eighteen. Seventeen that's episode. Seventeen of season for ds. Not anyway. You're gonna watch accession I just this is one of those making a call. I think this episode actually is far more important to the story in the overall in story of where we're going with these face nine so i want you to watch this episode. So that's we're watching next week is accession from star trek sustain. A few extra viewings already gave you hard time. Matt this one i am. I can't recommend this episode enough. This is the definitive coal mead putting his acting chops on display episode. Like this. this is his. They're all fall lights episode. Okay he's digging in like it's really upset another episode though these these next year from voyager though only give you as an episode called life signs live sciences this the doctor transfers the consciousness of the dean dr into a hologram so that he can help them in finding or so that he can help her in finding a cure for the phase and the doctor winds up falling in love with her. Oh boy it's good episode matt to discuss the expanding nature of the doctor as growing as a as a as a person out of being a thing called named life scientists. They yeah good episode. Not really one that it's gonna go and our because we're going to talk about that and other so but it is there. I would recommend the other one..

"That goes along with this episode and they brought all this queue stuff over so i give you a chance sort of your initial reactions to this episode death wish q. is now in the delta quadrant. Yeah this opens up a lot of doors. I mean i guess it totally makes sense that why win. Qb in the delta quadrant as well because they are kind of what well knowing what they are the little bit that i do a totally make sense. They can go anywhere at anytime that they wanna do. As you said the beginning to like this is the first time we've seen hyun voyager. Um and i kind of had. That was my question was oh cues non voyager but not the q. I know but anyway it's still like you. Voyager is this the first time and like okay. Good you notice. Haven't missed anything right. I mean it kind of that's the kind of the thought. I had With the way like jane was being introduced to the q. And stuff yeah. Yeah no of q had been here before i would have. I probably would have watched that episode. But i would have to you the her. Yeah man i mean this is going to be one of those. I don't know how we're going to talk about today's episode This is in my opinion. A fan frigging tastic episode. I love this episode. Every time it comes on. I i'm all about this episode This is one that. I think everyone needs to sit down and watch not just because of the subject matter that it hits but also because it's a q. Episode i'm personally a big fan. I don't know how do you feel about you. Are you a fan matt. You've seen enough of his episodes now. It's a little hit or miss fare. Like look i think when when it's q. On a starship I think i kind of enjoy that. He's kind just a jovial little bit jokester sure there but when he goes and like dregs into a courtroom he. That's not decided cue. That i really necessarily enjoy so this was actually kind of weird. A little bit of mixture of that my hand in a courtroom again But it's on a starship at least so it's not his his courtroom. This time has not courtroom is weird man. Yeah has very weird. The i think the other thing is we finally get to go to the continuum. Now matt us that a long time ago. I wonder what this continuum as i do. We ever get to go. And i was like are we do. But it's going to be a while so we finally get to come to the continuum. The race of the queue has been expanded and at the same time. The subject matter gets really heavy. But this is one of those episodes matt. Like i think this just as easily could have been a t o s episode. You know it's one of those. This is star trek. I think being on point like they present a situation they lay it all out and they don't answer the question they just say mary much like star trek episode. Yeah there's doubt of you know. What is the star trek message of this episode me like i mean i'll tell you right now. I don't have a lot of like specific character. Moments pulled out like a few. We'll talk about but like all my notes In my plot section. yeah. I'm like there's no be plot now. There's not really any anything i want to separate. It's just like this is a story. It's one complete thing. It all works together this like and the message is all wrapped up into it. I'm just taking notes. Yeah so i want to give you a little heads up because this is one of those things. I think you're going to want to formulate over the course of the episode. I'm gonna add new segment to the episode today okay. I'm not giving you any warning that i'm going to do it because i just decided to do it like half hour ago. I'm going to add a segment to the end of and this is probably gonna come mostly out of voyager episodes because voyager i think is i'm really seeing voyager. Does i think better than just about any of the berman era track but it's going to be a segment called. So what would you do. And basically i'm just gonna ask you. You're in that situation. You're jane ways shoes. What do you do so i'm gonna. I'm i'm telling you now so as we go through the episode you can think about your answering formulated and actually i'm to force you to answer the question. What would you do fair. Okay okay. I don't know how we get through this without having that conversation. I i think you're gonna get me in trouble here somewhere. It's okay you do you do you. we'll that before we get into the episode. I don't have really any character actress spotlight to talk about today. But i do wanna talk about sort of the origin of this episode and not sort of actually just the origin of this episode now since the beginning of voyager the production had been looking for ways to bring in q. And fact kate mulgrew he plays captain janeway who actually knew john. Delancey from like fifteen years prior to even being on voyager was a was a big proponent of getting q. onto voyager and figuring out how that could happen so much so that she even invited over and had a big dinner. Party with the burmans. Mr mrs berman and mr and mrs delancey and just had a big party and tried to get him to work out like please. You gotta bring you. You gotta bring you gotta nudge. Yeah and like the production staff had been trying to figure out. How do we get q. Q. what they didn't want it to feel like was that q just sort of pops up on ships that have their own. Tv show though like why would queue up up on the ship. Why would he turn up over here and deep say nine. They brought him in via another character. That actually had had some origins in in next which we skipped that storyline. That which is why you didn't watch hugh episode So they were struggling with. How do we actually justify q. Coming over to voyager and they were stumped for two seasons almost two complete seasons they were stumped until one day michael pillars at dinner with his family and his son sean says will what if dot dot dot and they laid out. The story of this episode and michael was like. That's a fantastic idea. And at first he was kind of like. Yeah but it's my kid and then he's like look. I have this this real clear policy. That i will buy a good story from anybody even if it's my own son. But he didn't cut his son any slack so he made us on his name sean by the way he made his son come into the producers room. Do a story pitch just like anybody else would have to do sitting in front of all the writers including his dad. And all the all the producers and whether that pitch was like a couple of sentences or whether it was like this big thought out story archa. Do you know how old he was at this point. I think he was in his early twenties so he wasn't like a twelve year old kid. I was going to say it's not like hey. Yeah your eight year old. I'm bringing you into work today. And you're going to talk in front of the board and say yeah. I think it was like twenty two twenty three somewhere around there but they had them come in and do all this. But i mean sean is not like he wasn't trying to break into the business or anything. Just that's where he was with his dad. You know and feeling the when he when he grows up with someone like michael piller like. I don't think he completely separate work from home like you. I'm sure he heard that a lot. It's like oh that would be a great idea for an episode going up and it's like he he has that built into them a little bit very exactly exactly so they made them and then they're like well. Are we going to have him write it. And they went no because they wouldn't typically have the guy who's just coming into the story pitch right the episode unless they have writing experience and guess what john didn't have writing experience so they assigned it to to the writing staff and lower hold. Who would actually get the script. But michael biller himself. So michael piller rights tele play shawn piller. His son is the one who is credited with the story and you know he got paid. Whatever the fee was. I don't know what that amount was. But he gets paid the fee and now he's gotta pay taxes and gets royalties and all that kind of stuff and and they went through and yet they went through now with that with q coming over to voyager the producers wanted to do a few new things with q. They didn't want to do all the same stuff. And i don't know how much of this you picked up on. But they wanted the cue character in here. I'm speaking of q john q. They wanted him to have a uniquely different relationship to jane way than what he had with picard. They didn't just want it being a retread of what we've already seen in next generation. Yeah because chain as a whole wholly different person they also had to avoid using hugh to solve voyagers problem being in the delta quadrant and they they fought with this struggled with will cue could literally just send them home. I okay. I wanna talk about that right now. If.

Ten points of you can name her matt Is that we're tasha went. Okay no. This was the role that kate mulgrew played prior to joining us as a captain. Janeway this was that you know she remember if we talked about. When we talk about kate She got her father to like sort of pay for her way to new york. And and she wound up like ditching college to be an actress and she winds up with this that. That's that anyway. So he he was over there now. Coincidentally i by they did. They were on the show at the same time so they did cross paths all. He's now indeed nine and she's voyager and they don't really see each other there now co-incidently prior to star trek. He was married to another voyager actress. Roxanne dawson who plays belong torres. These reminded this is where we mentioned. Casey before because in the early episodes of voyager roxanne is actually credited as roxanne. Biggs dawson have seen as a hyphenated yup and so this is the bigs is related to this prior marriage Now they had been divorced before the show began. I'm not entirely sure why the name was was hyphenated early on It was probably still just her legal name. And then eventually yeah. Something of that nature. Now today you can see casey. He's on the convention circuit. And when you do see him. Matt you're most likely going to see him playing rhythm guitar with his band. The enterprise blues band. yes matt. This is a star trek themed blues band featuring several former star trek guests alumni. And maybe like a visual effects supervisor so just random sure enough stuff there on the star trek group. Oh character which most people thought was a guy is glynn who is waste by ella cornell who is a woman so i kind of love that that you basically really couldn't tell Whether a lot of these characters were male or female because they're so alien and it's going to make for a really good show like i said we have a lot of younger actors in the cast which is good for kids show. But then you have the legend dee bradley baker as well as jason med. Soukous who was. Whole larry us which is just going to bring the comedy to another level. And i'm so excited for every single one of these characters. And i can't wait to see prodigy now. I'm really hyped. Awesome heather awesome. The more i see from star trek prodigy. The more i feel like this is going to be really cool. If i'm a parent who love star trek and just something to introduce the star trek franchise to a kid too. I just keep saying that to myself like this is so cool and i. I said a couple of days ago. Online that i feel like this is just so brilliant. Just the framework of star trek prodigy is just brilliant. That here we have this cast of young aliens who are all really not associated with star trek at all and now they have this emergency training program that is portrayed by a legendary star trek character in captain janeway and kate mulgrew who is really being a guide for them in in so many ways that this is going to be sort of a a guide into a gateway into star trek for a lot of people a lot of younger people. And i just think that's really really exciting. And i love the framework of star trek prodigy. I'm i'm really excited for for how it turns out i. I hope it does well. I really really do. I hope that kids really enjoy it. That's what i hope. Because i got into star trek when i was a kid through my parents and if if that feeling is something that translates currently than not not just going to be amazing. They're they're going to have trekkies again for the next thirty years. And isn't that really what we all want. More star trek to just indoor into continue on absolutely. I mean that should ultimately be the main goal of any large franchise like star. Trek is to grow your fan base. Because if not you're older fans are just going to eventually die out. It's a pessimist by saying that but your fan base will die out and dry up and unit you ultimately you want to connect with the younger generation. Because that's the way that we can grow. We can continue to have more star trek for another fifty five years. And that's what we all want..

Which is the twenty-fifth anniversary of star trek first. Contact the movie which is considered by many to be one of the best of the star trek movies that hit the theaters. I agree with them. I think it's pretty good. I think it's one of the better ones. It's not my favorite but it's probably in my top five. The announced a whole bunch of things. They showed austin trailers star. Trek discovery showed a little bit. That that's coming out later. This year star trek lower deck's animated show which i truly enjoyed and truly got into. They got or renewed for season. Three and season two hasn't even debuted yet. So that's great news for them. They talked about star trek strange new world. That's the one that's coming later. They started production on that. That's coming. I think probably early twenty twenty two at this point in time then. They also talked about card. The big news was star. Trek card is when season two arrives around the arrival of q in if everybody remembers john delancey portrayal of q who is the omnipotent being that played john luc picard and the crew of the next generation for so many years on that series. So he'll be making a return which i know. A lot of people are enjoying when it comes to star trek card. They also talked about star trek prodigy. Which is children's series. That's going to be on nickelodeon. That's going to feature kate mulgrew. Who was captain janeway of star trek. Voyager i watched a couple of seasons of that's lewis..

And i'm ready to talk some star trek with you and because it's episode twenty five special guest. We do have a special guest merchants and listeners as always heather has done an exemplary job in going through her rolodex finding another great guest out there in the world of star trek fandom and i especially liked this episode. Everybody that we're going to do. Because i'm gonna give heather of the con- so heather feel free to introduce our guest all right well so this past. Monday was international women's day so today in our recording. We're going to be celebrating women in general and i'd love to introduce you to our special guests. She is a fabulous part of our star trek community. She is a wonderful fan artist and a contributor to the women made trek initiative and thank you susie p. for joining us today. Hello everybody hey susie thank you so much for coming on. We really appreciate you joining us now as heather said Your fan art is awesome. That you are. I'm just going to go ahead and say you are my favorite star trek church twitter. Follow you are my absolute favorite. And it's just a joy to have you on so let's just jump in so to new listeners. Of the pod. We we do this in a format where we talk about old business where we cover kind of the classic era of star trek new business where we talk about. What's happening in the world of star trek right now and later upcoming business where we look beyond pawn always intended so starting with old business. Heather the women of star trek as you said we're celebrating women which i'm always in favor of gigi and i'm not sorry. I'm not saying so for me. This is kind of a no brainer guys because it was my mother and my sister who introduced me to star trek My mother was a big fan of guinan in the next generation So it could just go from there in heather. Like i said i'm gonna let you take the con- on this one old business. The women of star trek. Yeah i mean that's a very very broad topic when you think about it. Throughout the fifty five years of star trek there have been some amazing Inspiring and just all around all inducing women characters of star trek and so were just going to highlight some of the ones today. That inspire us. Personally i've talked multiple times about how much i love captain. Janeway she is my favorite captain. she is probably the first character i go to when i think of a woman character in star. Trek button aspires me. Because she really had everything thrown at her across the seven seasons of voyager and she handled it all with race in audacity the end just that classic. Jane waste snark where she wasn't going to let anything get her down even when it did occasionally get her down So suzy i'm going to start with you 'cause this is particularly why we chose to invite you today. So what inspires you about. The women characters of star trek and is there anyone in particular that you immediately go to when you think of that so first of all i wanna say i'm general generational trekkie too so like david. My mom introduced me to star trek. She watch star trek from the original series and then we watched together drain t and g when i was a kid. I love jamie to actually. Because i am a woman in business and so i admire her as a boss. I admire all the really difficult decisions that she has to make. Sometimes in the heat of the moment. I don't always agree with the difficult choices she makes. Although i do agree about to fix but the yes oh so. Jamie is on my shortlist bolanos. I'm doing a voyager. Watch right now. So i'm in a voyage or had space Lana i also love. 'cause there's not a lot of latino representation in track and so And so i just think she's a really cool strong character and then obviously my piece for women make track was dot zia. Janica is my favorite character in star trek The follow me on twitter. I call her my wife There's wedding pictures And so she is just really inspiring to me because You know she was queer presentation on tv when we didn't have a lot of that and so it was really important to me growing up and she's also this really just competent character and Shy meek kids. She was kind of the opposite of everything that i was and she just kind of lights up a room whenever she walks in and she just has such a commanding presence in such a joy of life that she is a character that i just really love and then just really resonates with me for having a of my anime compadres out there. What she said about jet zia would essentially make gen zia suzy's why fu to to translate the fans out there.

"That's the way. I read the story now. Because shooting had already started she actually didn't get a chance to meet any of her cast members prior to filming so she just one day shows up onset they call action and away they go. And that's how that was her introduction into the cast right at the he'll whereas like like the t and g cast like they all like they went out to dinner and they got to have discussions about the show. And you know all these all these pieces. She didn't have that at all now. Apparently though during that first season there were they constantly had network executives from upn onset basically. They're watching her there. Were sizing her up to see if she could hold up. And they were ready at a moment's notice to pull the plug on her and recast the role as a male. Just write her out bringing a male captain and let's move on well. Good news. She stays the captain spoiler match. She's the captain through seven seasons. All right now she doesn't change. I'll tell you that right now. And and she just she does amazing. I love her. She's one of my favorite captures. She might be my favorite captain to be quite frank with you. I i you know. And i don't know if that's a legit. She's my favorite captain because she really earned it. Or just because i always say voyagers my star trek Now time on the of she says she says that's her inspiration for playing. Janeway was herself growing up in a strict irish catholic family. She was the oldest bossy girl of eight children. And that's kind of how played janeway like she's just she's the oldest bossy est girl telling everybody what to do. And that's the confidence she walked around with. so i. During her time on voyager she would be nominated for four saturn awards which is a special award for science fiction. She won one of those and she would also win a golden satellite award and she would also get the award. For the most amount of hairstyles. Any trek actor has ever had to go through. It's a lot matt and it's almost humorous just to track the different ways sometimes. She has a wig sometimes. It's her natural hair sometimes. It's bacterial wigs. Sometimes the we get changed. It's it's weird health and she goes through different hair styles. And you're like what is captain janeway doing anyway post track. She is often found on the convention Even to this day like even now through vid. She has been like on all the video conferences. She goes on the star cruise. She she's out there for all of it. She has had a few other television guest roles a few movies here and there mostly though she'd just returned to the stage. Which was her home she. She's a stage actress. She likes being on the stage. That's where she really returned until she landed the role of red in the show. Orange is the new black. Did you ever watch that show. Matt i saw first few seasons. Yeah so read. Was the the old russian mobster who was the cook there in in prison have barely remember. That's our captain. Janeway real spiky. She's obviously much older at this point. you know anyway currently right now like as we record this. She has just released audio book of the brand new book. The autobiography of captain kathryn janeway. Which you're not allowed to read yet. But i have on my list. Because i hear it's fantastic and hearing her. Do the audiobook of it is from from all accounts is is fantastic of hearing her read..

"Lieutenants study and then first officer lieutenant commander cabinet or something like that. And my name's in my credits. I don't think you're sticking around. So then like i big explosion later on your dad. They're gonna think you're action dad. You're not coming back. That's how they got rid of you. Anyway it's funny being on my side. Because like i know who the crew voyager is. When i see this first episode of mike study man. I was like i wish study would have stuck around because offered multiple time. Yeah yeah and that's what i'm saying. I didn't have the credits to work with. Would have been a little bit more of a shock. Sure sure. But i wasn't in the credits. I had all i had were names. I didn't have you know okay. This is going to be a first officer and this is going to be. I have no idea where that came out. But like i just knew. She wasn't on my list. So she's she's right and i think study really wasn't rancher anyway. Yes yeah i'm with you. I'm with you but boy. Let's talk about it. Overall the reception difference between harry and and tom coming onto the ship. I mean expected. I mean even town expected it. That's only said like he has a reputation. Everybody knows historically. Except for harry for what reason like maybe a little bit weird that harry hadn't heard stories of it back at the academy like that. That seems like a story that will go around especially among students. Yeah like colonel right. I mean not that you should follow in his footsteps or something like the stories tell. My dad went school with nickel karnal. Yeah so obviously. That was just their way of of ramping up drama and we find out his history along with harry and stuff because up until this point like we didn't know what his background was either and like you said where we're following this story from towns point of view. Yeah we are we definitely. It's it's like when i heard in a different podcast recently. It's like yeah. The original story of frozen isn't a story about elsa it's a story about ana. Yeah so it's one of those you don't always think about when you're watching it But it's true. You assume that it's about the captain we're following captain. No she just happened to be around. A lot story was about this. Particular one of captain janeway star trek works by yes. This episode was time episode. Exactly ma- i wanna talk about what i one of the things i love most about this series particularly different from deep space nine and even different from angie and almost in a way that calls back all the way to t- os watched enough t us to understand. Comedy is back in star trek on a normal basis in this scene. Between harry and jane way where he's like yes sir and remember what you asked me about that way back in t and g..
