The Chester A. Poling
"Today. I'm going to do something a little different for this installment of your next dive normally tried to take you to a dive destination where we talk about the trip from a number of different perspectives. The travel the lodging the dive operator. Oh yeah the diving. Now we've been around the world. But today i'm going to focus on one particular dive that is almost in our backyard. It is one of the most iconic dives here in new england and that is the wreck of the chester. Polling off gloucester mass. The chester polling was a coastal tanker. That sank in a brutal storm on january tenth. Nineteen seventy seven. The tanker had just left everett massachusetts and was bound for newington new hampshire. That information is pretty consistent in the research but there is other conflicting information about where she had been. And what cargo she delivered for example some documentation said she had previously delivered kerosene to new jersey while others indicated that the heating oil was delivered to everett mass. I would suspect that delivery to everett mass to be more likely always interesting when you Doing research to get this type of inconsistency now the chester polling was bill in nineteen thirty four at mariners harbor new york by united dry docks incorporated it was originally in the plattsburgh sacconi somewhere along the line at also known as the mobile albany before getting renamed as the chester polling at the time of its sinking it was owned by the motor vessel polling brothers and that was number one inc. I wasn't able to find who was actually named after but obviously some member of the family. So that's a little bit of history about the ship now on january tenth. Nineteen seventy seven capital captain. Bert charles burgess was in command. The forecast for that day was for thirty five mile an hour winds along with fifteen to twenty foot seas. the chester polling chester. A polling left. Everett are left everett at six thirty. A m well as we all know. Forecast can be wrong. The winds built up to fifty miles per hour and to seize goddess highs. Thirty feet facing the mounting sees captain. Burge's tried to get more stability by adding more ballast but at ten thirty a m a thirty foot waves smashed into the tanker and broke it in half the captain called for abandoning the ship. Six of the seven members of the crew were saved. I believe it was the cook jail. Derosa from providence rhode island who perished the sir. The stern section of the chester polling came to rest off easter point gloucester originally in about seventy five feet of water with the bow section sinking about four miles off of eastern point in about one hundred ninety feet of water subsequent winter. Storms move the stern section to its present location about eight hundred yards off of eastern point about ninety five feet of water. I think the bottom might be a little bit deeper than that. However the stern section of the chester polling is what some folks call hollywood wreck sitting upright and is probably the most popular wreck dive off. Cape ann as that areas known. Now i- i dove the chester polling way back in july two thousand and five. It was my fortieth dive and a double dip on. The polling was part of my advanced open water class. These dyes would constitute my deep and wreck advanced. Open water dives. At that time. I was still diving in a seven. Millimeter wetsuit with the appropriate gloves and hood. I use the standard aluminum. Eighty tank with nighthawks. Thirty two. I can still remember the anxiety that had doing. The first real wreck dive in the northeast but once in the water what an amazing dive the visibility that day was thirty feet and my max step was at eighty five. Even though it was july the water temperature on iraq was fifty degrees. It was incredible to move along the deck and reach the mid mid ship section where. The tanker broken half absolutely mesmerizing but with an aluminum. Eighty you don't get much bottom time and after about fifteen minutes we headed back to the up line and after are appropriate safety. Stop we climb back aboard the boat and got ready to do it again. Total dive time was twenty six minutes the second dive that day was just as spectacular and pretty much the same profile. Let me just say in a wetsuit. It can get pretty chilly. I didn't go back to the chester polling until august. Two thousand nine and that was my last trip there. It was my two hundred and forty ninth dive but this time i did it in a dry suit and hope to get some good video of iraq. I still dove aluminum. Eighty the dive was just as i remembered and just as exciting visibility again was thirty feet. And my max. Depth was eighty two with and the bottom temperature. That day was forty eight degrees still very cold but so much better in a dry suit again however with an aluminum eighty. You just. Don't get much bottom time especially if your task loading like shooting video so my recommendation is that if you are planning to die the polling you might want to consider a little bit bigger tank something like a steal one hundred or going to doubles. I know that i wouldn't consider going back with anything less than a steel one hundred tank. How do you get to the chester polling back. Then we use cape and divers but they closed up several years ago and recently the dive boat cape and diver to was purchased by several guys from boston. An air now operating regularly chart regular charters again became an diverse to is a forty five foot. us coastguard registered dive vessel. It is spacious and right now with limited divers on board you get plenty of room to get ready and dive but you don't get a lot of but you don't get a lot of time because you don't have a lot of time to get ready because the is only a few minutes from the dock so be prepared one thing. Different about northeast wreck diving. Is that as a diver. You need to bring all your gear that includes tanks weights everything. It's not like diving at a resort. Don't get caught short by not being prepared with all your own stuff now. Here's an interesting element. That i discovered during my research. It appears that in nineteen sixties. The chester polling was length lengthened. By maybe twenty six or so feet. That doesn't sound like much. But at the time of her sinking her length with two hundred and eighty two feet so that lengthening was about ten percent of the original ship's length could this have been a contributing factor for the ship splitting in half. I wonder so if you happen to be in the area of cape ban in gloucester massachusetts. You might wanna look up cape and diver to and head out for a double dip on the chester a

"When passengers are out of control flight attendants reach for last resort and he guesses duct tape well who thought duct tape would become an essential flight attendant tool. Lionel Messi's Paris Saint-Germain Deal Includes Cryptocurrency Payment
"Apologies to the sporting savvy out there bear with us. But for those who don't follow football. You should know its biggest star argentinian. Lionel messi just left the club. He's been with for most of his career barcelona to sign a two year contract with paris. Saint germain often referred to as ps g. And that's how we'll continue to refer to them here why you may ask. Are we telling you this. No it's not an attempt after our previous victory and interesting nate and sport during his last appearance to make him love the beautiful game it has to do with. Nfc's you see big. Sports stars get paid big money and just the welcome package that gave messy was worth twenty five to thirty million euros. I would like a welcome back like that. It included some. Ps g crypto currency. Fan tokens from socio dot com. These tokens let fans hold them. Vote on some minor decisions regarding the club. Like what song is played in the stadium during warm ups or the message. That will be on the captain's armband for example. So ceo's dot com says. The sale of the tokens has generated close to two hundred million dollars for its partner clubs this year. They've got a good half dozen or so Partner clubs and of course fans who buy them and then try to sell them for more than they paid them for them. And there's a brisk business in that trading volumes before messy signed with. Pse reached one point two billion dollars so giving messy a bunch of them gives him a volatile asset that he could potentially sell for millions. And these things are benefiting. Ps as well the ps fan token generated thirty million euros in sales this past week and it's estimated. Ps g keeps about half of that. If not more

I was alluding to earlier. When i was like. You know the choice to make this exit. One is kind of unfortunate but it also seems like it was necessary because she is a pivotal character. Can you talk a little bit about that. Oil learned. yeah you know. They didn't really dig into the specifics of it too much but they used her as this. You know launching points on to create a universe because it's not only. Is this the first story that we've seen As far as the marvel cinematic universe chronological. Timeline is concern You know it's obviously will will learn soon that the attorneys have been around for a lot longer. But captain america is still the first injure and now captain carter is the first adventure. What if because not only will she obviously come back in some capacity when you consider the end of this episode. And the fact that we've seen her you know in a shot with doctor strange and that shot with you know the presumed new avengers but they said that She will also be returning in future seasons of marvel's what if and they're already working on a second season in the show show she'll have a story that will continue much in the same way that captain america story continued once he was brought back from being frozen for all that time

"captain b." Discussed on Down To Folk
"Once upon a time in the very dawn of colonial america when the hopeful poor would embark upon difficult and often harrowing voyages to the so-called new world. There was a ship that set sail from southampton in england bound for plymouth colony's on board. There were twenty women and twenty men all from humble backgrounds end deeply pious in nature and a seasoned crew and captain. The ship had made the voyage a time or two and was in strong and sturdy shape. She was known as the captain's folly a name that had caused pause among a few of the passengers but was left off as maritime humor but as the third week drew to a close. The captain paced the deck nervously. It wasn't that the ship was drifting in davao weather or that it had blown off course. It's not that it was taking longer than normal. This was a grueling. That could take as many as six weeks now. That was something else entirely that concerned him. His mind drifted back to the day of departure as he smiled and waved people aboard. He felt every second counted he had become wealthy from his ventures overseas and upon coming to port from the last excursion. He had it set in his mind that he was going to marry lady lillian she was the most beautiful woman in southampton and he had pined for her for years at upon returning he found himself in the midst of wedding celebration. It wilder it. He wandered until he found his brother. The groom sitting beside none other than his true love lady lillian in his absence. His brother had betrayed him. The celebration drew late into the night. But at long last all the merrymakers had given their well wishes and departed the captain's brother had welcomed him warmly though there was a mischievous twinkle in his eye as he introduced his new bride. The captain graciously kissed her hand and wish them well but as the evening wore on and lady lilian reprieve the captain was overwhelmed with rage at his brother and grabbing a bottle of champagne bludgeoned his mother to death with a scream lady. Lilian returns to the room rushing to her husband's body and weeping. The captain tried to convince her of his love for her but she told him she would rather die than be with him. Unfortunately the captain was a little fellow and proceeded to take the cake knife and stabbed her in the chest proceeding to solve over her lifeless body. He fled to his ship to escape any criminal prosecution leaving the bodies undisturbed at most. He had a few days as he was about to set foot an old hag approached him. Her she cried sair a few shillings for an old lady. The captain looked back in disgust. The woman flashed toothy grin. And by that. I mean she had exactly to. I haven't any shillings old woman. He turned to send the ramp but the woman caught him by the arm. Hell about penny. He crumbled annoyed. I haven't any pennies old woman. He told her as he again turned the ramp bitcoin. Then you can charge though they have my square right here. The cabin stared the woman incredulously. How on earth have you had no pennies. Could he possibly afford bitcoin. The woman must be mad old woman. You must be insane. I have no bitcoin nor credit nor even an atm card. Now please leave me. Be the old woman cocks her head on moving a fine rich me though i can tell by your retire. Sure you can spare just a little far uproar old woman. I'm done madam who crawl back into your cave hag. But this time as he turned to mount onto ship he heard a quiet hiss behind him when he turned the old woman had vanished as the sun rose the next day passengers looking all their worldly belongings trudged up to the ship and down into the murky quarters below. That would be their home in the coming weeks. The ship swayed as they tried to piece together. Their things into some semblance of a home on the deck passengers waved to any onlookers. There to see them off. It was a sunny day and all were in good spirits. But now as star descended the captain paste. How could the old woman have known. What does it all mean. The feeling of foreboding crept upon him and was unwilling to release its grip as they're shipped finally neared its destination in the boston. Harbor was in the distance. He breathed a sigh of relief. He had no way of knowing. His comfort was far. Who soon as the newly risen sun glittered golden atop the waves. The captain suddenly smelled something. Foul putrid the smell of death must be the meat. He absent mindedly mumbled to himself and set out to find the source of the stench. It would have to be thrown overboard. He noticed as he exited the captain's chambers that no crew is incite. It was eerily silent on the deck. Save for faint flapping of the sales above. He brushed off his feeling of dread as he approached the entrance to the passengers quarters. The odor became more pungent. Someone must have died in the night but no sooner did he step down onto the floor. A figure in a dark cloak approached him slow. A single finger raised pointing at him and a familiar voice spoke there are. His face went white. He was already white. You got the old hag from the harbor but how it was then. She took on her true form transforming in front of his eyes to his beloved lady lilian. But how could you your dad. I'm set lannoo kokuvil. Now you will be too without. She clicked her ruby slippers together. Three times repeating. There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home and as if in a split second. He was on the gallows in southampton news being stretched over his neck. He was hanged until dead for history. "Claire called back and check out mine. I'm making a rocket ship. That's going to blast off to mars. I've got fins and a booster and up here is where i keep the laser blaster. Take that martians puke in truth. Both of their castles looked more or less. The the sand was too wet to hold its shape. And they both had lumpy. Bumpy piles studied with shells. But luckily they also have vivid imaginations. I'm going out on a spy or to my castle. Logan said my wizard wants to watch your rocket takeoff. He can give you an extra push. He just needs to drink a seaweed potion. I sounds good. said claire. Amr counting down to blast off all systems go leaser rockets. Burning hot ted. Nine eight potion taken here comes. The magic booster shouted logan. While claire kept counting down three two one blastoff. She grabbed two big handfuls of her sandcastle and threw them into the air. Logan joined her and the sky was full of wet chunks of sand and the gulls screeched in protest and flew away. The two kids fell down laughing. A successful launch logan said. Oh wonderful spell clare agreed. So what do we do now. We can't go home until dinnertime. They sat together for a little in the sand their feet in the cool water of the ocean. They couldn't swim without their parents there and it was too cold for it anyway. They were neighbors both their houses just a couple blocks from the rocky little beach. They played games at clarence house a lot but due to a spaghetti incident earlier that afternoon they had been told to stay outside and play until it was time for dinner. Hey look what's that. Logan said where what i don't see it there. Logan said leaning closer and pointing out at the ocean horizon. It's far away but it looks like something big and wooden. I see it now. Claire said standing up and shading her eyes with her hand. Oh i bet. It's an old pirate ship. It probably used to have black sails with skulls and crossbones and a crew full of crazy people. Oh oh and a brave captain with some kind of beard name. Blackbeard bluebeard all the best. Pirates have cool beard. Names definitely accept this. Captain couldn't grow a beard so they used to call him. Captain no beard. He hated that so he became the The infamous bird beard instead of a beard. He had three birds all parents. One red one green and one blue. He rescued them from wild jungle. Cats when they were just eggs and when they hatched. They thought he was their mother. They wanted to be close. And the captain had a big old chin so they landed there and never left beard. Claire laughed definitely and bird. Beard beard looked so cool. That's how he got his big dangerous crew pirates. They sailed all over the ocean. That ship out there. Of course that was ancient history like probably twenty years ago and ever since their ship has just been floating out on.

"Passer Brad Stevens was not. Not Larry Bird was not Michael Jordan but he played at the not the Paul Paul University of small was an all conference college basketball player. Many guests I. Don't know Tyler I'm GONNA. Guess Brad Stevens a better athlete than he is. But why would you say that I wonder I do wonder why that would be. Interesting and you know we could taste of service and what do you mean? It wasn't even what Har I mean you can taste the racism in the food. I'm more stuck on this idea that the Celtics Mascot is an oath to white supremacy because it's not i. mean the the Irish weren't enslaved for many years, but they didn't exactly have great in America. It's fantasy. They were regarded as white for Irish not try. Yeah. They weren't even considered white people for centuries. It's just doesn't even it's fucking stupid mask. It's not like. It's you know I don't think the logos offensive but if it's offensive anyone who would be Irish people to buy an Irishman. Very. Get that hot temper God. Let me hear this again I mean Jesus Christ. Simmons, running most likely asked to be a veteran. and. Convinced this squad this demoralized team off a four bounce Leonard in off of an absolute shellacking from team whose mascot is really just a colloquial old to white supremacy and they head coach is the. Most athletic person in the State of Indiana. Like you're losing to a city who you can taste the racism in their food that is an indictment on thing you stand for as a Philadelphian and so a culture change. Understand his point. I think he really wanted to get. About his. Forced to visit can get listen as a sixers fan. Why would we be embarrassed by that I, mean. I, understand that I could see firing the coach. But if they brought in Brett Brown, the general manager of the seventy sixers I believe is the old Duke player Elton Brand. So he brought him in and said, listen we're firing you got swept. Okay and it's not so much you got swept but. You got swept to a guy was coaches six thousand, both most of other guy in Indiana. You can taste the racism in their food. So I think you understand what we have to be. Person Thing, Boston market macaroni, and cheese across the table. Not West delicious taste to that. That is actually very good. How athletic is fucking ACA cheeses they're. A Lot What we say how athletic is Bill Belichick understand what that has to do with how good of a coach you always a white guy he looks like a nerd. That so white guys aren't as athletic CC can do that. That's fine I see. Of course have no problem with that joke but you can't make that joke why you're making your other point. That doesn't you're being racist while saying how I mean it doesn't it doesn't really work but also as. I don't get what any of it has to do with the conversation I was so confused, right? Because he's stupid but you just say Boston's racist. That's fine. Okay. If he said that if he said the sixers got, that's a slipping embarrassed by a team that's by the way from a racist city and then moved on I would it would make more sense to me than what he's doing. Don't get his point here I think he's trying. To be funny in a way, he's trying to get these dying the say this obviously. So he's just jamming it in place. He could be talking about anything and say that it would make more sense I'd like to hear more of that style of commentary of him just. Talking about teams from Florida I think. Pay Twitter fifty, million, four. spotify Jesus Christ. What a purchase? Who is this? What's The guy's name? Tyler Tines T. I n. e.. S.. Come down to Kelly's roast beef. You can taste the racist it's just unbelievable. Tyler, what is the last name by me as MIA? He might be right. Unfortunately. I've talked to them about Tyler tines. Why not see him Steve on twitter. Ti. S. What's is what? If he's not on twitter. That'd be strange. I'll be able to buy. Is Verified. I'm sure he is. He Shot Obama you for these hot takes could be I'm definitely. At Tyler Tyler Ricky Times. Sorry it's t. y and yes. And we go. Staff writer for the Ringer of course he is. The higher by Simmons Tyler Are Times. Your is definitely the ringer. I don't know. So, he's not, he's not like I thought maybe was like trying to be semi funny. So he's GonNa new idea on his sixers coverage interesting proposition for you. We don't have to decide today but just an idea let me coach the team now when we bad That's interesting. That's that's a fun idea. The entire idea of police from its essence to hours reckoned within our cinnamon athletics positions at the center of American culture it was made protect white wealth at the expense of black people ravaging racist terror lives last work. But I don't even really care if that's his of course, not absolutely the way he's weaving it into this conversation that I can't fathom how he got there. Is. Forced. Slightly just you're just like I don't understand. A. Racist of. A joke, it's weird I don't get it. You should have a respirator on who say so how do you work the races of into that chicken house of racism and like you know Starkville Mississippi Opposes it. Tastes different down there. A kick to it the reason feels more authentic down that school. Because they use it a little more salt. Brings out the flavour. Jesus, let me hear more time. Let me see if I'm going to try and look at the with open mind and try and take tyler either shifted. It's really hard to meet think that you can bring a coach in here will most likely has to be a veteran. and. Squad more. Okay. So he's talking about bringing in somebody to replace Brown west of the veteran sure. Does he mean like a guy who's been around the block coach before the guy who served in the military not okay. Yes sauce. Served in the military. For my myself, she's chapter delete left and right or one. I haven't checked this more feast deleting chaps who come. Bringing the guy like whoever on. Jeff in Gundy. Rudy Tomjanovich. Bring in here. Okay. I'm with you to bring. Okay I'm not sure why that's necessary but these guy I'm not. Team off a four ounce of Leonard off of an absolute shellacking from a team whose mascot is really just a colloquial old white supremacist hold on real quick. So I'm not sure what that has to do with Jason Tatum being a good. I have no idea. I don't know that. But okay. Well, maybe this maybe guys like tatum are inspired to play well, because they've got a white supremacist watching them on the court angers them maybe that's how. I mean, it's. I would I would not think of those who particularly offensive logo if anybody should be offended by me and I'm I'm not offended right. But Hey, let's go back to Tyler Man Tyler and they head coach is six thousand most athletic person in the state of Indiana. Okay. Again Stop I'm not sure again. Unless I have not watched herring I watch Olympia. Now, because he's kind of into it, there's no part of the game I've missed yet with this whole new bubble stuff where the coaches play, right? Coaches are taking throws. Okay. So, we're not seeing the fact that he's again the collegiate basketball player. He's not as good as these other guys that's not really factors it. Well, if you're hiring if the sixers are hiring coach they, we say, certainly, we can find someone more athletic than Brad Stevens. Coach that's I mean I don't mean to to to talk about their search process. I'm sure they'll do a fine job is that what they should be looking for I wouldn't think athletic level from their head coach. The readers are pretty respected if nothing else basketball right out so I would think I would trust this higher like car loose. Yes, he's much more. Herschel Walker and he's been. Jackson who? Were they. Were Michael Phelps. Higher. We're going to search for the most athletic manning America. I don't really understand woman or woman like. You the decky. So That's interesting okay. So you'RE NOT GONNA YOU'RE NOT GONNA go there. You're not going to let the enters rodgers. Now it's Roger's I'll say it isn't Roger. It's Rogers Yeah. James Teams Talk to you did you did you talk to. Bella. Check that you do like a zoom with him. What is he like on Zoom? So I didn't talk to him. I talked to their oath. Cnn quarterback coach Beating with him I'd total probably talked about ten teams in a more serious ones. Were probably like five or six draft. They really thought you know. We're looking at the fix. That they had and the jets were probably the top of that. Let's just throughout the time with the combine. I had the only official interview. Add with the jets on a really good with that one. In so yeah. They're definitely on my top walks for sure. Did you have an idea of what they would select you or like how did that? How did that GONNA go down for you? So I didn't know my agent had been communicating. That's up with me. I kind of anticipated around where I was VIC now. The responsibility of day to and You know something's got to talk about that and then kind of when it happened You know it's a pretty good relations with the colts in the cowboys. And so the jets had You their pick and then it was like colts cowboys jets again and so it was kind of nervous couple of minutes to rape or. I don't know like I really like the jets and they picked on P. Ryan from Florida on a great big awesome going to be fantastic and then the next to it was kind of sweating a little bit and then the jets came on again and they actually had another pit. I think one twenty nine or you know a couple of the roads. And so my dad's like you know. They're probably going to that when if they're gonNA pick you and literally like right. When he said dad the phone rang. Does the New Jersey number less all I was so and so put us there who made the goal was a gay. Su who made the jets bad. Gm Douglas. He made the call and then he kind of passed. The phone. Owner does kind of went through the kind of quiet. My family down a little bit because there are you know as soon as I say. You won't regret those to have. Everyone started kind of going crazy. Guys ways that was it was a family rowdy. Like was there was drinking going up forty at the. Maybe yeah maybe my like my mom or there's something like that but yet I signed my family Was there You know my girlfriend handed flown out. And then I had a couple of buddies who were like social distancing outside and it was really cool it came up and watched it for like patio but then when I got the call my mom my sister somebody. Kinda yelled aloud so all those guys came down and then just kinda right when I said everyone started going crazy. It was awesome moment. I didn't work for you this year because impasse. Here's you get drafted and you put the hat on. Whatever do they just send you a ton of hats or did you go to live and buy hats on a happen at all so I think I think there is like a draft package that sets a lot of the top guys with a bunch of? That's true it's out. Went Down for me. I actually had a bunch of miniature helmet so many together right here Adventure jets helmet. I mentioned helmet of all thirty teams But thankfully because. I know at the combine the only half that I had was a jet set. So you know it was not serious occasion again when it happened. It was perfect. I just put on the video and it's real that is that is also excellent. What was the moment like after? So you're now fully aware attract the by the NFL man. I'm going go to the New York jets and going to number one on media market in the world and you hang up with the jet so the emotions between you and Dan your family What were those yeah? It was great I mean they they all kind of like they were freaking out on. The al-Qaeda tackled me. And then you know it shows the selection saucer all I colon watch it and then when it went across the street was going crazy. Two so Now I'm so thankful I got to spend with my family and the junior come through for me to the NFL and yeah just can't with the work of this. Great Organisation get Games. What was it like listening to Mel kiper junior and Louis Riddick and Daniel Jeremiah? Breakdown your film and the of you with the jets. What's that experience like? Yeah it was very cool looking at Looking at it a little bit afterwards because they saw the breakdown of the pick saying so I did see that you stay away from that stuff with that one. I saw it and it's cool. I mean it's definitely cool to you know. See yourself up there and see some of your throws and You know I I try to listen to what people say. They don't put a lot of You know too much credibility offend no what I WANNA do kind of my goals and so you take a little bit of it Josephine already paid too much necessarily going to be honest. I've been wearing Kuyper mcshea. I've been wearing everyone out since they selected you. Try to get some information on. Hang back here hyper quarterback Kelly you laugh but I have been wearing mel out took James. I've got said he was quarterbacks. And he got to know I mean. That's that's what. I believe that's research and listen. I WANNA teach you tally. Don't assuming you'll be back up. Okay I don't like that. I want you go in there thinking. I said your job's in jeopardy starting quarterback that that's a Dallas and he'd say that kind of my whole thing about it is I'm GonNa go in and you know whatever role they do. Good 'cause you gotta find value and you got to make yourself valuable to a team so definitely mentality absolutely. I mean like we talked about on the competitor but whatever role that I can fit for the jets south and win games. That's something to do. I feel like you're wishing bad on Sam darnold just so that you can have James on again and you have access to Jane because then you'll have access to the head coach and the quarterback of your favorite team. So you'll ask Darnold doesn't work out bill. You know how this works. James Becomes if James does get the starting quarterback that is speaking to me and you are over. Darnell.

"Friends and family from from space for some reason people get a kick out of getting a phone call from from space. I have the phone numbers stored on my phone as International Space Station so Because of maybe it's because my time is chief when it was. I regularly spoke to the space station. It's not something I get excited about it anymore. But I'm excited to share that enthusiasm with others. Yeah yeah that's so funny that you think it's a normal thing. I would do so excited if I got that phone. Call so so along that theme along of of you know think about. I don't know what the future holds. Us might be my last space flight. I'm going to enjoy it thinking about generations of astronauts coming after you just at the time of this recording. We just had a graduation event and had all these new class of astronauts. Come in that are looking forward to all kinds of exciting things commercial crew. Being one of them we talked about Artem is during this event going to the moon. There's a lot to look forward to but in your experience being experienced astronaut. What would you like to say to those astronauts? Generations of astronauts coming after that Some kind of value or lesson to take away from this and your experience. Yeah that's A. That's a good question because there's lots of aspects I could talk about the training the PA oh aspect of it the operational part you know. What are you GONNA do It it's it's very It's easy in this job to think that you're just doing the job for ourselves in taken me a lot of maturity to realise that that we are doing this job for our country and we are doing this job for other people and it's not about us it's not about us as individuals or even as a collective group of astronauts it's about what our country is doing and we're a member of the team that debt pulls off a really cool mission for our country and So to all of those that are new and that are not yet astronauts it will be. It's just keep that in mind. You know you're excited to come here excited to put on a spacesuit getting a pool put on a spacesuit get in a rocket walk around on some dusty place but ultimately it's about being a member of the United States of America being a member of an international group of countries that are doing the mission and doing things that make the world better. It's an amazing lesson. Chris Cassidy really appreciate your time today for coming on the podcast and best of luck on your next mission. Thanks I appreciate it. You think could bring your. Hey thanks for sticking around. Hope you enjoy this conversation. We had with Captain Chris Cassidy just before his launch to the International Space Station. You can watch it. "Back with our good news block Yay. That's her favorite. Part of the show. As a new polling is out from Reuters indicating a bipartisan. Majority of Americans want to see new witnesses testify in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump and the public appears to be largely following the trial. The poll ran from January seventeenth to January. Twenty second and indicates public opinion has move rather significantly on the issue. Now seventy two percent of Americans agree. The trial should allow witnesses with firsthand knowledge of the impeachment charges to testify including eighty four percent enough democrats in sixty nine percent of Republicans. Sixty nine percent. That's a lot I know. Libertarians favorite thing to do is to question a poll. But I was just trying to to stop myself from making a Heke sixty nine joke. Well you almost did it But that's very that's very goodness. And seventy percent of Americans say senator should act as impartial jurors including eighty eighty percent of Democrats and seventy the three percent of Republicans this direct sleight. Of course on people like Lindsey Graham and McConnell who have openly admitted that they're just not going to be fair jers. I've heard that too. You and I just wonder like when that wonder. It just seems like could any impeachment trial possibly have impartial jurors like that's another example. I guess of saying the quiet part out loud but I mean are the Democrats impartial like they said they wanted to impeach trump the day he got elected again. I have so much to say the notion of being impartial and I think this is an important point too because like the whole Lisa page and Peter Struck thing for example is based off of a similar argument. You know like texting between the rights. The idea that you can't maintain your own political opinions while also remaining impartial in your actual work. That's that's just something we have to accept as possible otherwise we would need every single person that has any sort of consequential job to not have an opinion opinion. You know so I think that yes it is. It is possible for Democrats to be impartial jurors. And and you're probably GONNA. I mean well. This bag sample. I was GONNA say you're probably going to see some Democrats that are in. You know less solid districts kind of you know entertain some of the Republicans points but when you straight up have Lindsey Graham. WHO's a huge leader for that party and Mitch McConnell? Who is the leader later for that party? Coming out saying we're GONNA fuck and have fidget spinners. I know that wasn't that one the fidget spinners. But that's the that's the idea saying saying this is a circus and they're not even sit there and they won't even listen. Everyone knows how they're going to vote already but the fact that they would come out and openly admit that they're not even. I'm going to try to listen. It's fucking bullshit. So where did that. The police read that was that wasn't supporting impeachment. Awesome porting That right to this one. Seventy percent of Americans say senators should act as impartial jers. I'm I'd really. We like to talk to the thirty percent. Disagree with that Yeah I know I mean I guess you can just like assume that it's I don't know Republicans I mean you. You read the splits for both right like it wasn't one hundred percent on the Democrat side. Eighty percent true eighty percents Democrat seventy percent of Republicans could points and sixty percents Kazakhs. Sixty percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of Mitch. McConnell while forty percent have a favorable view him that is a fucking lot of people that have the favorable view of him. And I do not like that. Yuck I guess all that really matters is what the people in his district about him. Yeah I guess so and uh the or at least the I don't even know if he gives a shape just wants to state. I should say that. Yeah well I mean either way. He's peace yet and and two out of three Americans are paying attention to the proceedings. That's good forty. Six percent say that journalists should be allowed in the Senate Chamber That's like I said. been kind of a point of contention not allowing journalists than yeah. They like as part of their rules. They like limited access to the media But we're still getting the feet so at least that's good But all right in. Here's our last good news story. Also doubles as a shot in Florida. So let's get to that shot in Florida the good news. Big Pharma exact. John Kapoor has been sentenced to sixty six months in prison for his role in the OPIOID crisis. The seventy six year world is the founder of insys therapeutics. I own stock in and watch them crash. It's so it's such a random coincidence like when I got the Robin Hood App I it was a hot stock and it was going for like two dollars and it had like a ninety percent so but like a couple of hundred bucks worth and then like news articles started it coming. That's the that's the company that like had like a stripper is their CFO or something right. Yeah yes so I I lost a couple of hundred bucks on on insists. It's not. It's so funny. Like wow of all the all the all the penny stocks I could have picked. It's the one with reporters. I guess I actually can't confirm that. I said yes because I was looking at my phone. I don't know if that's true. There's something I mean. I guess reset research that on your own guys but believe there's something like either the chief marketing officer they're CFO's like a stripper and they were taking like clients to strip clubs and giving them lap dances answers or something and this is like an executive in their company doing this. It's it's a really wild story. It's worth worth doing some some research on. Well this'll this will make you feel even worse about investing in them They made an aggressively marketed. The potent opioid painkillers subsists sub S. Y. S.. It was apparently his sentence was a lot lower than what prosecutors asked for which was fifteen years but the judge cut him some slack. I guess because of his age and his history of philanthropy they said philanthropy philanthropy kapoor and four other executives were found guilty last year of orchestrating. A conspiracy to basically soclean bribe doctors so they'd prescribed medication and also Including prescriptions to patients. Who did not need it? So one thousand percent sent the OPIOID crisis I'm looking at up right now. ROBINHOOD APP I bought the stock at seven dollars and sixty four cents a share. Now it's at four four cents. God Ref well. That's giver investing in Big Pharma Enough. And you also game. Yeah Yeah Yeah And then they lied to insurance companies also to make sure that the oral sentinel spray was covered to sell. That is our shot in Florida for today today. Everybody and that also concludes our good news block and that concludes our episode for today. So thank you so much we miss g Mandy but Steve Thank you so much for filling feeling in. Yeah thanks for having me though. That was a lot of fun too and I'm glad I came because the whole like all this stuff going on impeachment so hard to follow and like I I want to stay up on it but it's it's difficult you've helped fill in a lot of I'm glad the blanks. "Alright Joanne we're back Matt Gaetz Gates suspects a senior White House aide campaign to push him out of the president's impeachment defense team shortly after gates votes four Pelosi's war power war or powers act in the house milkshake Matt was a top contender to be one of trump's impeachment advisors but he didn't make the final cut and he said he's unsure why but that he heard from someone the White House that the legislative affairs director. Eric Ulan is to blame for it the snub this is quote. I don't know why it would serve someone in the White House to manufacturer divide between the President President and one of his best communicators during impeachment. you'll end was asked if he did this and gave a vague answer saying he did bring up. Gates's support for Pelosi's House Resolution Kevin and that gates tried to get some of his fellow Republicans to vote for a to what a disgrace supporting the war powers. That is That's in reference to Iran from. I'm assuming Yes yeah so this is when we talk about like the Enron around Congress than basically or I should say them him Making that call out trump trump. Okay yeah that could be an interesting topic for us to talk about on on the I disagree podcast. Yes because I don't have any problem at all with them. Killing Sulaymaniyah liking get that dude. Like get them. W said I understand like the war powers act like it should be constitutionally. It's the role of Congress to do that. But that's hasn't have been the case for decades under Republican and Democratic administrations. Yeah it almost seems like a partisan play at this point like oh we won't mean we this is normally fine but since trump did it we have to. I know at first off. I don't know enough about the history of all the presidents and how much they've acted outside the bounds of informing in Congress. What I mean? It's in terms of war. I don't think we've actually declared war on somebody who knows. How long will you can just definitely make the argument that assassinating pretty much? Their top hop defense individual. Is it a sense. Is it an assassination. Though if he's a he's a military officer the end uniform on a neutral troll third countries what else would be when assassination. It'd be like taken out a politician or like a just a regular person like he's a he's a general like that's a legitimate military not targeted. I would think the ad I mean a hit job as a hit job I guess so. I don't know if the semantics of for that word the nuances of it. I can't really you speak to that. I guess I just think of an assassination is just like killing someone basically semantics but But yeah I mean there's have you heard that trump was presented with a bunch of different options and killing Sulejmani. They only only put on there because it was such an extreme option they thought it would put into context. They didn't use GONNA put pick it and they thought it would put context the other options dude reba but but then it was coming out. That trump decided seven months previous. That he was GonNa do it that he was going to assassinate. Kill whatever words you want to use Soleimani so then his argument demint of it being an imminent threat. Which is why he did it in the way that he did it? Allegedly without informing Congress That's how he was trying to justify it but how is it an imminent threat. If it's something you decided to do seven months ago while I think Salamis been an imminent threat for years. Though like he's orchestrated countless attacks on Americans. I think you could make make the argument that he's been an imminent threat on pick day on the calendar and I think that'd be a valid argument again. You're talking about shit that we don't have access to top secret information so it's really just speculation but right yeah but I think what is something that we can understand in that Americans can understand in Congress understands is there are certain procedures features and rules for how you typically conduct yourself as the world's watchdog basically which is our scene with the biggest military defense ends budget. And how you act militarily and you're not supposed to just do that shit without talking to Congress about it. I very simple way of putting that. Obviously I mean I think I would agree with that in principle but that hasn't actually been the case for any administration for decades. You're saying every president has made calls without consulting Congress seriously in terms of like military force. Do you necessarily I mean there are definitely times that they lay out. You know that that's like justified. That's why he said the imminent threat thing But now we have all this reporting. It wasn't because of an imminent threat. They even walked back their own statements and said Oh it was because of something Soleimani has has done in the past. It's because of his past behavior and that can't be the reason for just orchestrating a hit on someone without talking to Congress without consulting you're only check body on you. Basically we'll do a did Obama consult Congress before taken out and bin Laden. I don't know because I think that would that would be pretty parallel because that'd be based on the bin Laden did in the past I see. I don't know I'm not making argument. 'cause I don't know I don't know if he did or Anna. How four federal lawyers pave the way to kill Osama bin Laden? What a lovely article? Let's see weeks before. President Obama ordered the raid. On Osama bin Laden's compound in May two thousand eleven four administration lawyers developed rationales intended to overcome any legal obstacles. And made it all but inevitable that navy. UCLA would kill the fugitive Kreider leader. Not Capture Him Stretching sparse precedents. The lawyers worked in intense secrecy fearing leaks. The White House would not let them consoled zolt aides or even the administration's top lawyer Attorney General Eric holder missing out real. They did their own. Research wrote memos and highly secure laptops in traded drafts hand-delivered by trusted couriers. Just days before the raid. The lawyers drafted five secret. Memos so that if press later they could prove they were not inventing after the fact reasons for having blessed it we we should memorialize I- rationales because we may be called upon to explain our legal conclusions particularly if the operation goes terribly badly so they didn't go through Congress but they they went to their lawyers and case Congress talk shit after the fact I don't I wish I could give you the correct answer. I don't know the extent of how much congress was informed or sure sure what they had established was appropriate off. Track here anyway yet. No it's okay. I'm glad I mean that's I'm a fan of being consistent it morally Then again obviously the case of bin Laden is I think to our country a lot different than the case of Sulejmani. They're they're just very very different situations But I wish I knew more about all that stuff but I do not Moving on an interesting side note about yelling. He walked past the pen of press at the impeachment today and said I can't wait for the revenge. That's it's very ominous inkster. Yeah it is also said while the trump administration was disappointed. This is going back to two gates. Sorry Mrs Quote While the trump administration was disappointed Mr Gates vote. The president's successful policy to reduce Iranian terror in misbehavior proves the path laid out by. The president is working. We look forward to working with Mr Gates in the future. You fake ass be he so fake and Okay moving on to more embarrassing trump news. Well when he goes abroad or here really do well ever no but he did particularly bad in his latest massive of Social Faux Pas trump. Head a really awkward moment during his meeting with President of Iraqi Kurdistan Nature Vin Barzani. I'm so sorry I heard about this. Did you get the country's makes spoilers. Yup It's at the World Economic Forum. That's been going on in Davos. Let's listen to that clip. Well thank you very much. It's great to be with President Barzani of Kurdistan and we have a new schedule for a long time. We've wanted to meet. We've worked together the very well as you know. We left Syria from the standpoint of the border and that's worked out great Turkey. It's worked out far better than anybody ever thought possible. They have the so-called safe zone. I appreciate everything you've done to keep safest possible but Very importantly as you know we have the oil off and We left soldiers for the oil because we take the oil and we're working on that and We have it very nicely secured. We also have thousands of Isis solicitor's. We've taken over one hundred percent of the caliphate So there's a few cringing things that happened. There never won a Barzani's Iraqi Kurdish regional government. Hasn't been involved in the safe zone plans along the Syria Turkey border in areas claimed by serious Kurds. So Syrian Kurds are very distinct geographically and politically from Iraqi Kurds. IRAQ Iran Turkey and Syria. They're all home to Kurdish populations. So trump just mix. Kurds occurred he basically he actually did something where and I can't remember exactly who it was but there was a reporter who was Kurdish and he called him. Mr Kurd a fucking awful is dead at the time though. Apparently the man said that he was happy that he called him. Mr occurred because it really solidified his Kurdish identity but then after the the whole So Souleymane earn starring Monte. Pulling out of Syria happened. He was like very disappointed and did not have good things to say about the president. So Mr Mr Kerr's back to that previous clips all the currency things like what was the thing you said about the oil. Yeah he said we're keeping the oil that's one of those things it's like got keeping the oil say it's like you don't say the quiet part out loud like shit exactly thank dude exactly Eh. And it's like It's just so bad. He says so he just gets really hilariously flustered and it would be hilarious if he wasn't literally on a world stage with another world leader. It's like what the why right on your hand or something right. Make some effort or just you know. I don't know we're both stand up comics. When you're up there you just have to be like you have to tell your rainy lake? Shut the fuck up. Sometimes sometimes you want to ramble but you can't you have to be disciplined fucking president and my favorite thing is when he said that we've taken over one hundred percent of the caliphate. Oh he said over one hundred percent. That is an impressive accomplishment. Tip of the camp to the commander in chief there. ESOL yeah exactly. We've taken over one hundred percent backing ridiculous Anyway anyway he sucks obviously and coming up next from buzzfeed the US is top. Intelligence official. Joseph Maguire has failed to hand congress. A report on the killing of journalist. JAMACA show last month. Congress passed a defense bill requiring the Director of National Intelligence to give Congress an unclassified report killing and gave them thirty days to do so. So we're now past that deadline. The reason it's important is out of Congress can release the report to the public. It'll be a formal acknowledgement of the intelligence conclusion made by the CIA Becca. Kashoggi's killing was ordered by the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman something that trump has denied or I should say. NBS has denied and trump is basically basically believed. Trump won't come out and criticize publicly for it and this report would hopefully forces hand in that and make him have to come out and say that he did it. Congress members trump trump just hasn't commented one way or the other. He has commented saying that he just believes him basically and that like He. I mean he does that thing. You know sometimes where he's like if they did do it. That's really bad and not okay. Or whatever other hill like half condemn sort of but on the other boats right but meanwhile his son in laws like concocting all of this. Saudi Arabia like crazy. I mean this is getting very deep into Malaysia. Read Sta according to mission of like building like like a nuclear like a huge triangle of nuclear reactor so there continuously engaging in talks basically allegedly behind closed doors with N. B. S. for things that are not in the nation's interest and are very much in the interests of them and also Russia But it's it's just good news. I think if they're going to be held accountable to release this report. I think everybody needs to see it. The fact that it's going to become available publicly is really important The congress members have requested in an explanation for why it's late in it's being reported by buzzfeed that nobody's received response yet. So we'll see what happens with that All right after this break. We're coming back gained with our good news block Jordan here. This helping the daily beans brought.

"You how hard up there which is not always easy to do these the football players who whether you play quarterback or your safety he's sort of have an arm around you fans that people people that are sort of a natural armor that is impenetrable and we saw some of it sort of crack on saturday night we did and so did his teammates and we talked about the fact that this team has to look there. Nobody's gonna cry for this for the colts us on how it works. The regular season is what ten days away now. I have a lot of respect for andrew. Luck is a very very impressive person person first and foremost the best one of the best teammates i've ever had <hes> best people ever been around. He's a competitor one of the best competitors <hes> strong guy. Sometimes people forget how athletic he is sure. That was <hes>. I think that everyone by surprise i was. I didn't really believe it last night when i first saw it but <hes> entered football's hard not can do this knowing his toughness and not toughness this. Something's gotta be wrong somewhere of his mind blowing. I it was some that <hes> of course caught everyone guard but <hes> hey i mean that's that's he can control his own future and he's a great player great quarterback yeah. I think i'm probably like everybody else. <hes> a bit surprised and stunned. I respect the hell out of it. I mean it takes a whole lot to walk away from a ton of money like <hes> an organization like that. We're looked at as superheroes. He's not human beings and for him to have that human element express it in the press conference after the game. Go and talk to the media to answer questions. I thought that was really big. Listen andrews a friend. <hes> i <hes> ill exchange text messages with him from time to time so <hes>. I'll be reaching out to them to check on. He's just one of the he's one of the great players and the great people in the national football league and <hes> that that that really surprises me. I'd love to hear more about it but <hes> i just hold hold him in the highest regard as a player as a person and wish them but the best going forward andrew is not the first superstar shot the n._f._l. World by leaving early nine years with cleveland brown won the rushing title eight times an m._v._p. Three times including his final season in one thousand nine hundred sixty five gale sayers. I spent seven seasons in the league but played only four games in his final two nearly five thousand rushing yards and since nineteen forty sears is one of four n._f._l. He's a record with just under two thousand receiving yards had over twelve hundred in his final season and then gronk after nine seasons he hung it up the third most receiving being touchdowns by a tight end and his eighty total touchdowns are the most n._f._l. History patriot's history. I should say at water is with the the colts and add an interesting day there today because of course you hear from the head coaching the teams back in meetings for the first time since lux announcement what what was is it like there today yeah they're on the practice field right now but wendy interlocks locker here at the colts facility was located appropriately enough just below below the oh in indianapolis but today the name plate had already been removed the locker stall empty of its contents and one of the most talented quarterbacks in colts history was justice justice gone having retired italy even as they support replacement jobe set jacoby percent. I'm sorry colts players find themselves unable to conceal their conflicting emotions oceans especially those closest to lock like wide receiver tie him. That's my.

History trailing only dan marino and aaron rodgers. He finished his career ranking third in cold sister in completions lesions passing yards passing touchdowns wins trailing only peyton manning and johnny united in all three in his final season. He threw for four thousand five hundred ninety ninety three yards by far the most of any quarterback in their final season in n._f._l. History according to elias sports bureau and finally let's final regular season game win over the titans heightens eleven. Oh against tennessee suffered from the injury bug. Though many times in total he missed twenty six regular season games in his career most notably notably he missed nine games in two thousand fifteen due to a lacerated kidney and a shoulder injury. You then missed the entirety of the two thousand seventeen season due to you another shoulder injury this preseason he has yet to play due to what's being called a lower leg injury that just had on it. Continue need to be a problem key. I'll i'll ask everybody's opinion but as time went on he thought something there's something more to this but when you're sitting wherever you were sitting saturday night and you see this news. What's your initial reaction. We'll have to look twice and i use some words. I can't use on. I think we all probably and then i started to dial in a couple of people like this is serious and he decided to step away and that was pretty much it and then obviously the new start to trickle out. Obviously adam had his report report. Everybody else had their reports and you said okay well good for him now. Things are settled down over a couple of days so he kind of kind of understand why we have things first happened. It's a little bit of a shock to the system and you're trying to figure out why did he do. It is the injury more than what he's telling us. Is there something to it. How much did the coach no did they no he would not only missed the first week but also missed. Maybe six or seven games into the season so revenue do that. He decided to step away for right now. So you're trying to figure all those else beings out at the same time. You're still in disbelief that he actually pulled it off with key. I had to not only that look twice. I thought it was one of those fake accounts or chef thrusday. Jerry go very goes again but then two keys point as a few days go by and you realize what that cycle of injury rehab being being away from the team all over again must be like it starts to it starts to make a little more sense butcher's little you know because i don't want to take this. We all respect the decision. It's just that we also knew that the physical toll that goes into any n._f._l. Players body as beat these two can actually speak to significant and substantial so it remains a surprise to me. It didn't register twenty four hours later and it was fully one hundred percent true. I understand that when guys retire early the first question we ask is is this a real retirement or is this. I put my career on hold for right now this authentic dispelling. I know this cult very much like a chapter. The andrew lucked life story has been closed and and i think if you look back on his career some may view it as you know what could have been at the same time. It was a prodigious talent who the minute the colts drafted him went from irrelevant the bottom of the league to a team that all of a sudden contending for the a._c._c. championship every single year so seven years ears of an incredible run for andrew luck too short. Perhaps is put a run. It's authentic right now. Because andrew luck it's the stanford graduate with a guy who started up there and he takes on but matty miss a few games here feels in when he hit home his home and then and he's healthy walking around and playing in his backyard and having some fun and having coaches reach out to him that say hey man you're sure sure and then watch what happens mr jacoby percent how he plays before frank reich started say come on man bye. Don't do me like this again and and so you know i understand that we all may believe that it's over and done with but i don't know i just don't. I'm buying it. I really am i. I am as well bernard. What what was your initial. Take when you heard the news about as i said before is making pancakes so at nine thirty nine for dinner so when i heard it you know you have to look at the things that he's he's gone through his career and i believe it. The guy hurts the game of football. Everybody wants to point the blame at the g._m. Point to blame it the owner the game of football all did this to him and we all know that and yes could've had help with you on his side. Yes he could've had help talking about the office of line but the game of football all set him down and i think like he said if you give him some time to kind of sit back he'll up understand what's going on. His mental is right. His physical was right. He's going. I started to get that issue as i have. I'm pretty sure you have exactly when it comes. This is like okay. I can go if he gets the first year and we're not talking about. A guy who's played thirteen fourteen years one super bowls. We're not talking about. Some of the guys only played seven year miss twenty some odd games in his career. Let him get through the first year. If he gets the first year then he may start to feel different about it getting through their first year. It's tough when you retire well. There's been initial reaction from just about every corner of the sports world as you might imagine imagine. We'll hear from the colts in just a minute but here's what t. y. Hilton had to say via twitter. He said every time i think about it tears start to flow. No one understands you like i do our bond is one of a kind of decided to dedicate my season to my best friend. I love you twelve again more reaction today. From from the colts beginning with the head cooks frank reich we can respect and honor the player and the teammate that andrews was was but at the same time we can share an excitement and enthusiasm about the team that we have going forward and the journey ahead of us. Jacoby has this presence about him that he is just. It's just not all about him. He's in it for the other guys. He genuinely genuinely is about bringing out the best in other people. You just feel that you see that. The guys know that i could see it instantly. I could see it instantly seeing him him with the guys out on the field. We are in good hands with jacoby percent as our quarterback i was. I was shocked. <hes> i mean which i'm sure everybody's y'all wouldn't be here if you're workshop you there but <hes> i was i was shocked <hes> and then you know we had a long conversation and it was just you know some emotions obviously going back and forth. <hes> you know you sit down and talk to you understand. <hes> you know his decision and <hes> you know like i said it's like one of my good friends. So it's kind of is tough but you know both i'm sure both of us will deal with it was a double edge sword obviously for the guys who are still not locker room their a friend of andrew luck. There are teammates. I'm sure they care for him as a person but let's be clear they also have to pick up. The pieces got to put this on the field and they gotta move forward. Is your perspective a little bit different bernard but if you're a guy in that locker room who says we just lost our franchise quarterback in a heartbeat t._y. He it brings tears to his eyes because he no this guy got me the ball. We can't lose sight jacoby. He's been here before. He's never been hey. He's never had his own set of keys. He's always been there to replace somebody else knowing he go back to the bench. This is his team now. So i think the guys own the teams going to have to rally behind him as i said before i think the guys are going to have to understand. This game goes on the young guys. He ain't coming back to share. This is kobe team. We gotta go play football and win. Four games. Jacoby percent got to win now and t. y. Hilton i know he loves a quarterback back and this guy andrew look but you got to move forward now. I'll play with fourteen different quarterbacks eleven fifteen to be exact so you you go and you help the next guy now. You can still be friends with lucky. Arc is still hang out. Do all those things but now turn your attention and your energy to jacoby helping him beat the best the quarterback he could possibly be in the national football league. You're still going to get your touches. The play calling is not going to change. They're still gonna put an emphasis when they throw the ball. It's going to you so that the focus should be there well before we get you to weigh in but before we do you know not not every single bit of reaction has been positive. There's been some hot takes. If you will see berlin had this to say look. This is one person's opinion. I'm a huge fan. Look fan always have been but this. I cannot defend or justify no capital. No no scenario where retirement is defensible to do this to his teammates organization fan and the n._f._l. Two weeks before the season is just not right. I love the guy but but this will haunt him. I don't fully agree with that but i do. At least appreciate there would be some of this sentiment out there for guys who get this news and realize hey. We just lost a pretty good player. There might be some people that feel this way. I mean maybe there are some teammates in the locker room that i doubt whatever expressed publicly that does them just about zero good but maybe there are some people that wonder hey listen. If you made the decision in march how different our roster complexion be right. Now we have tried to address quarterback other in the draft or free agency. One thing say though is making a mistake in two thousand seventeen in two thousand nineteen are entirely different years for the colts different coaching staff. This is a much better offense lying. There is culture replace defensively. They're far far superior. Running game should be better as much as the colts might be reeling in some ways from this news about andrew luck the bombshell i mean it was really the story of the off season. They are so they have so many pieces in place. They can't feel sorry for themselves. They were dealt a massive blow but they can legitimately win this divisions and he can't make a decision in march when he hasn't arrived painted it. You know you get hurt in training camp. Now your decision that you may have made in march but not really announced it made it in your heart beating your mind. You said you know what i think. If something happens to me i'm going to be done with this. Now you come to training camp. Something happened to the ankle the calf the caffeine ankle. Didn't you finally say you know what you go in there and you talk to the trains the doctors they're telling you well. It's gonna take some time time to heal the come back. I don't want to sit around on the side again again. The damn clipboard having people look at me why i'm not on the field. I'd rather remove remove myself so i could start my life after football. If that's what he chooses to do we had. There's nothing wrong with it. I think personally steve berlin is out of line there by even attacking anger such the character of a guy like edgy look in this situation. I tend to agree and this argument that you should know sooner or told people center so ridiculous to me because you can so you. Can you predict the future. You don't know how your body or your either. I don't know so many variables bernard. I think to be honest with you. I don't think he was fooling healthy anyways so i think this was icing on the cake when he's dealing with this calf injury and then everybody's saying ankle injury i think somewhere else and his body was hurting still bill so for football players. This is the game you after wheat one. You don't play one hundred percent. You really don't play at one hundred really ever so like. I think injury injury was icing on the cake. He was ready to walk away. I don't know if it was anything to team. Really could've done this off season if he told them sooner maybe address in a quarterback position shea draft or even the frequency. I think you still give the keys to present well. We're going to have continued reaction to andrew decision including a live report from ed wheeler color at warner who is out in indianapolis but there is other news it was. I wasn't kidding when i said it was a busy weekend lamar miller sadly done for the two thousand nineteen eighteen n._f._l. Season and m._r._i. Sunday confirmed what the texans had feared and that is that they're starting running back suffered a torn a._c._l. Miller was carted off the field l. During houston's i drive against the dallas cowboys on saturday in new england. Josh gordon is back at practice for the patriots that means a twenty eight year rolled wide receiver in full pads practicing over the weekend which would indicate he's passed his physical and has been removed from the non football injury three list and here we go when tonio brown says he will move on from his fight whereas old helmet this is according to good friend is agent drew rosenhaus he lost his second grievance hearing with the league regarding the use of his old helmet and so he says for now he will deal with it and wear an approved helmet file under will see it is also official in the nation's capital. Jay gruden says case keenum has won the redskins starting quarterback backdrop. He really wanted competition. That never got started because colt mccoy still dealing with issues in the broken right leg he suffered in december keenum and the redskins open when the season at philadelphia and forty niner fans breathing a sigh of relieved after a ski like zero point zero quarterback rating in his first action of the season jimmy rebounded and week three going fourteen of twenty one hundred eighty eight yards and a score woah isn't how i envision this plan. This amion retire does not nieces decisions the hardest decision on my life still in pain. It's been four years of this injury pain rehab cycle michael and taking my joy of the steam away i wanna thank football for some wonderful moments in my life. Learn change in so many ways. It's just the british team sport in the world. Well we will continue to react to andrew looks very shocking decision throughout out the afternoon but some other date updates now from around the league and we'll start with cam newton who was injured over the weekend but the good news this is any indication he does not see all that concerned as he arrived at panthers practice today he did suffer a sprained foot and the panthers preseason game against the patriots over the weekend. He was walking woking at practice yesterday without a walking boot. That's good news but he did spend practice working with the team's trainers. Here's ron rivera with snap date. It was <hes> going through his his warm is <hes> is pre practice. Warsi typically does and then he <hes> he went through who is <hes> is throws he threw the ball threw the ball pretty well i didn't i didn't get the number how many throws you may but he he threw the ball and threw it pretty well today so we're pretty excited. He didn't really dropback brought back or anything like that. Just so you guys know still on progress feel good about it and <hes> you know we'll see feel some morning <hes> and hopefully feels voice. We throw some more well. David newton joins us now from charlotte david. Was that practice. And what more can you tell us about canada what he was or was not able to do this afternoon. Well i wendy. There's no indication he's gonna pull a andrew luck and also retire anytime soon. Cam wants to play. We didn't get to see a a lot of what he did. Most of what i saw in working with the trainer doing some motion things working on his shoulder because that was the big concern coming into preseason was a shoulder that had surgery during the off off season with all things to be really well with that so they're really anticipated. He can play all signs have been good for him. So far. I ask tory sympathies wide receiver. I'd said what's it like in having a little bit of uncertainty at your quarterback position less than two weeks before the opener and he said there is no uncertainty he specs cam to play everybody does but i will go back to two two thousand fourteen where can you in the third preseason game against new england suffered a fractured rib and all the indications were coming into this time at that point was that he he would play in the opener against tampa bay and then he didn't they thought it was best long term so they're going to do what's best long-term for cam his foot but all indications are right now that he will be the stored on opening day against the rams david. Thanks david thank you. What's interesting here is that on thursday we spoke when i asked the panel what would constitute a successful night right for cam newton person they said get out healthy and of course then you see this sort of that age oh here we go again in the preseason do do we have that conversation key again about the viability and the necessity of the preseason where more and more it's just about getting out and getting healthy for the start of the regular season would replay my front line guys in the preseason at all at all sean mcvay show janette went ahead and went to the super bowl and as you continue to see there's school mentality where he got bill bell check of course he's. He's gonna play guys. You have certain people that is going to play their players but for the most part i wouldn't play my guys in preseason because the preseason really is about guys guys that are coming into the second year guys guys that are trying to make the roster when you got superstars. There's no need for the superstars to play it on understand. The tickets people bam. They wanna see him play. You go through similar in the n._b._a. Were guys sitting with p. Fans japan their money but a guy like cam. Newton is the most important person on your team need. You don't take a chance you already know what he can do as a quarterback. He doesn't need to see rep's against the new england patriots to win a roster spot for you. He's pointed in fact. He's the number one guy fifty three mayor austin. I think there's sort of two conversations surrounding the preseason that have been molded into one really this preseason one should players a front line status play at all and that sort of been jailed with is four games in the preseason because i'm with gay and that you know most i coaches will continue to gravitate towards call to sean mcvay model of just you know see september first or whatever the first week of the regular season is but there is still value to the preseason reason you're seeing players across rosters in the n._f._l. That's probably your somewhere between forty five and ninety on the roster that are competing for not just the final eight fifty three man roster spots for the ten practice squad spice to those are important so for these teams with frontline players. I bet in years going forward will barely starting quarterbacks <unk> at all prior to labor day. See i'm a little different. I think guys need to play if we look at this clip where candidates play live safety linebacker ed wait but uh before before as far as we watch he was evading the rush well in practice in in game <hes> or in inner squad scrimmage is he's not doing. They're moving out of the way they're creating lanes emma throw their running costs quarterback not touching them. He's a big body so he sprained foot because he hasn't been used. It used the cut in that way in practice so he's. I believe he's gonna be fine with freight foot. Obviously i'm not the on the training staff but guys got to play to get the rest and then there's also a whole nother argument about superstar star players. Tom brady. I think is an example who wanna play a certain amount who say to their coach. I need this for me. This is how i get ready. This is my process and then you've got a coach needs to make a decision where do competitor yeah. Of course i mean it makes you wanna play who wants to play. The whole crowd was upset with the guy. I'd be lying if i didn't say her reaction yeah it hurt. I'll be honest it hurt. We're looked that is superheroes not human beings and for him to have that human element and express it in the press conference after the game. Go and talk to the me to answer questions. I thought that was one of the big human beings not robots runs and get turns on turns off we won. I haven't liked it and i think people feel that they <hes> home feel like data techy and ask them because they don't know what that feels like for us yet. They may see the numbers how much you get paid but you also gotta understand. I'm used to give effect. That is the livelihood that something happens. You can't do something for the rest of your life so that is much bigger than i guess the numbers and whatever they look at there's also the curse if you only saw bits and pieces of andrew luck's press conference on saturday it is difficult all to get the inside and really the context and to what factored into his decision so here's an extended look of what was truly a fascinating press conference afri- blue. This certainly isn't how i envision this or plan this <hes> but amion retire <hes> this is not an easy decision <hes> honestly it's the hardest decision on my life <hes> but it is the right decision for me <hes> <hes> for the last four years or so i've been in the cycle of injury pain rehab angela injury pain rehab and it's been unceasing unrelenting unrelenting both in season both on and off season and i felt stuck in it and the only way way i see out as to no longer play football <hes> it's it's taken my joy of this game away and this sorry. I've been stuck in this process. I haven't been able to live the life. I wanna live taking the joy out of this game and after two thousand sixteen where i played in pain and was unable to regularly practice. I made a vow to myself that i would not go down that path again i find myself in a similar situation and the only way forward for me is removed myself from football in the cycle that i've you've been in comp- come to the proverbial fork in the road <hes> and and i i made a vow to myself that if i ever did again i would choose. Who's choose me in a sense. It's very difficult. I love this team. I love my teammates the folks in our building the the fans the game of football an and as part of this team as a as a member of this team because of how i feel i know that i am unable able to pour my heart and soul into this position <hes> which would not only sell myself short but the team in the end as well <hes> and it's sad but i also have a lot of clarity in this <hes>. It's been a difficult process <hes> but my wife wife my family my friends mr ballard mr say the family and frank reich have been incredibly helpful support of <hes> and i'm so grateful for them. <hes> as i told the guys earlier in the locker room it's been the honor of lifetime to represent the horseshoe and the city of indianapolis both on and and off the field to say and and your family va- thank you thank you so much. I am so grateful to have been drafted here. Your unwavering support is incredibly appreciated. I cannot fathom another owner who loves their team as much as you do and that we feel that as players we appreciate that as players permeates through the building <hes> and from the moment and i and we talked about this earlier but from the moment i arrived in indianapolis indianapolis. I felt like i could be myself and i felt like i did not have to fill peyton one of the great you know of all times. I felt like not have to fill his shoes. I could be me and for that. I know that starts with the person up top and for that. I'm very very very much appreciated. <hes> so many people have <hes> so many people think it's i think maybe fitting that chuck was the coordinator for the opposing team tonight because he he had so many positive points in moments such an impact on my life and be a as well who's obviously not here tonight but with tampa all my former coaches but it did feel a little bit full circle walking out there tonight and getting being able to give chuck pagano a hug who <hes> who provided so many great memories for me and and colts fans everywhere robert mathis who quickly became and we'll always be my football hero. I love playing with him. I loved watching him. Play uses a good teammate has ever had reggie wayne. What a thrill. It was to throw to him. What a thrill. It was the the fro- to you. I thank you for the incredibly positive impact you had on a young player in this league. I was a part of some amazing quarterback rooms that helped me grow <hes> and and become a man in this game clyde christianson who ran it for a while with with drew stanton chandler harnish shoddy and scotty toll zine gene especially matt hasselbeck and no now is a great great influence on me. I learned so much from all of all of y'all in so many of you. L. are lifelong friends. They are lifelong friends and again. I'm much much appreciated for that. It's fitting that i'm in my retirement press conference conference an athletic shirt. I looked pretty rowdy up here after games so sorry mama. I can't have a better appearance right now. My wife and i are so proud when people ask us where we're from. We say indianapolis annapolis. It's our home the support we felt here from lifelong friends from the people that we love the five hundred. This has been a credible place to make a home to grow. I guess i'll transition to this current team and why it makes it so so difficult. I guess for me to stand up here in and say i'm retired. It's a great group of men. It's a great group of guys one that the group that makes coming to work everyday feel very very special and i feel incredibly lucky for that and fans and people need to know about the men in that locker room are great. They're honest the real <hes> there's no big fan of them than me. Chris ballard thank you have so much respect and admiration for you got a lot of tough conversations <hes> learnt so much from him the honesty it's incredible frank. Oh so thoughtful driven kind again. I've learned so much time last year at after pinch myself and say is this for real line and i am i allowed to have this much on a football field and it started with you all the rest of the staff they may they may coming into work orca joy on something that that i certainly certainly will miss and i don't you know coming back last year and playing a lot of people had a a lot of lot helped me in a lot of ways and they'll they'll never know how important that was to me on again so so appreciative and my teammates i feel so conflicted because of my love for these men but but it is clear to me that's what's best best for this team is is is me does not involve me <hes> and i'd like to say a quick note about a few of them <hes> as as we get towards the end here but when i was a seven year old my father drove me up to amsterdam and i watched adam venit kick for the amsterdam admirals and n._f._l. Europe then when thousand seventh grade my father took me to the super bowl in houston and i watched adam venit heretic a game winner against the carolina panthers and then of of course my first my first win is a colt involves adam vegetarian kicking a game winner against the minnesota vikings and i told him all this earlier today. I stand in awe aw of adam venit terry. He's he's a. He's a great man a great teammate and <hes> again. He's one of those guys. I'll tell my grandkids. I got to play with him. Jacoby perset is an awesome dude. He's got a bright future. He's diligent. Sharp loves football. I hope community support him in different ways. I am so grateful for our friendship on a on a personal personal but coming back into the building early last year. I was very jealous and resentful of this fun unhappy dude that was in my spot as a quarterback on this team. I obviously demand a lot of confidence in myself at that time either but i could not have been more wrong. Tom and he helped me grow in so many ways. He's a lifelong friend. It means so so much to me. He's a big part of you know. We haven't one of the more rewarding years of my football life. If last year i cannot wait to support him and see him lead this team. I am excited for the future of the colts in large part because jacoby and also all the other for men in that locker room t. y. Hilton i had more fun throwing the football t._y. Than than should be allowed probably when i was when i was away in two thousand seventeen seventeen for the for the latter half a lot of half of the season and to figure out why i wanted to come back and play football and i boil it simply down to the fact that i like throwing the ball to my friends and i love throwing the ball to t. y. Hilton is the best football player i've ever played with is a better teammate than he is a football player in conclusion my folks who aren't here tonight but mom dad mayor and the ad well well my friends. Thank you my wife nicole. Thank you and i guess in a philosophical sense football for so many wonderful moments in my life and the pressure circumstances environment that pushed me to grow learn change in so many meaningful ways. It's the greatest team sport in the world and and that was andrew luck on saturday night and you know you. I watched it then and you watch it today and you still sort of shake your head. I mean if nothing else regardless of what you think or if he'll be back or if he's done the candor bernard and the sort of honesty and clarity transparency. I should say that we don't often see and that we say we want to see from these athletes was on full display. Light can argue that as we were just kind of laughed about he's real. I mean this guy can't he can't make this thing he's not playing. I honestly believe if he is hurt and i mean time away from the game is going to heal that time with his family is going to heal it being not being on the scattered that you create is going to heal that you know opportunities for him. This is doing so many things outside of football is crazy. He is probably one of the smartest player i've ever played against. You know so. I best real key. Why don't we see what don't we know we can sit on this side of the equation. You guys played the game. You've also walked away from it. You know what don't what don't we know about how difficult this process..

"Ahead on n._f._l. Live bomb show announcement for managing. Look over the weekend. The colts quarterback announces his decision to walk away from the n._f._l. Seasons heroes luck making the announcement saturday night now how i envisioned this plan this <hes> but amion retire. This is not an easy decision <hes> honestly it's the hardest decision on my life but it is the right decision for me. I'm in pain. I'm still in pain. I've been in this cycle. Which feels like i i mean it's been four years of this injury pain rehab cycle and for me to move forward in my life the way i want to it doesn't vol foodball. It's the greatest team game in the world. I've loved being in that locker room. It's it's truly been the honor of a lifetime to the suit up next to many of those guys and it's part of what makes us very very very difficult..
