"That she talks to her clients, no one's obsessed with recession anymore. I mean Romaine, you, Carol, and I are, but their clients are no longer obsessed with that. It's more about looking ahead and making sure that they, you know, catch up to the gains that they might have missed out on. Yeah, I mean, and you know, look, you get to a point too where we should point out that there are some seasonality effects going on right now, particularly when it comes to volume. In the middle of August, where a lot of folks, of course, are away from the desk, and you don't have many catalysts. I mean, earning season is wrapping up, and as we pointed out, it's still a ways away until we get that next Fed decision. So, you hang your hat on to the economic data that we got this morning, there's certainly some positives in there, and maybe that was a catalyst for the rally that we saw to start the day. That rally, unfortunately, did not hold up, at least not to the extent we thought it would. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is going to stay in the green, but only by about a tenth of a percent. The S &P 500 only in the green by one point here on the day, while the NASDAQ Composite also in the green, but only by about a tenth of a percent. The Russell 2000, which had a pretty good run earlier in the day, is going to close in the red, down four tenths of a percent. Yeah, I gotta say, I'm thinking of what Aaron Kennan over at Clear Harbor said to us, and he's like, if you think we're going into a recession, you gotta keep in mind that the S &P multiple tends to bottom around 14, and right now we've got, what, an S &P that's at 20. And so, if you think that that's the scenario, then we're gonna have to see some kind of market correction. But again, as you said, Scarlett, like there's less recession worries at this point. Less recession worries. We have modest gains for the day, but when you look at the industry group performances, the gains, at least among industry groups, are capped six tenths of one percent for consumer services, and that's really your hotel companies or casinos, so wind resorts leading the way there. Media entertainment, that's Disney lifting that group up by half of one percent. On the flip side, you look at the biggest losers off by one point six percent consumer durable and apparel. That's tapestry following its gigantic purchase of Capri.

Yeah, you have to poke that straw in without squirting yourself. Sure. Has anyone made an alcoholic alcohol infused version of that? Well, they make those pouches. Frozen, aren't they? And then you put the stick in them, yeah. You know what's cool to do with those. You wrap around your body, have your buddy duct tape them under your shirts. Booze into the concert. Nobody knows. So they do have booze on those things too. Yeah. Wow, handy, handy. They have, you know, like those little frozen popsicles, Christie gave me a bunch of like margarita frozen popsicles. Yeah. You can get those too. There's booze in them? Yeah. Costco. Alcohol wouldn't freeze. Well, it does. It's probably fentanyl. Be careful. Oh, for God. You're no fun to be around. I mean, is there. Because they need that they wouldn't pass rates lake their companies who have shown themselves over and over again. and again. abe's order broadly speaking of bad actors in this space and so the idea that like we can continue to pollute on one side and just sort of suck it up on the other side hasn't been proven to work. We know it hasn't worked in terms of plastic recycling. We know it hasn't so far worked in terms of cost setting and so i have no reason to believe that suddenly plastic offsetting would be active when all of these other ways. It hasn't been to date when and if you look at the chart. I don't have the numbers in front of me but the amount of plastic that is being created. I mean it just. I think in the past five years we've created more plastic than any amount previous to that like the total amount of plastic that has been generated is just Exponentially growing still and a lot of it is being pushed sub saharan africa and asia in the form of this ashtray market which. It's hard to obviously get out there but the are opening up been. I do last. Kobe shot this week. So i'm excited. Start going to places like around my house and even like downtown and just try to muscle out there I really haven't. I've like been in a strict household so growing up. I never out enabled to go to certain places I was always performing with like the musical theater program that was in the other music programs. I did outside of school so now like hitting on my own stuff in having to go to a mike and stuff like that is kind of like nerve wracking. But i'm really excited to start doing that stuff. And even saying there's like so a couple of restaurants on a house actually do like open mic and stuff like that while are eating. So i'm really excited to weights. There's a thing aboard at abortion laws. And all that and i mean i'm not trying to get you into that discussion but there's going to be someone when you say i'm cushion the. Thanks butch i mean. They've lessened your music or your watch. Your videos said hey. Could you perform us a church sermon. Yes so i. That's a good question Yes i am present in I actually am louis young my faith but i couldn seeing actually since for my church actually since i was like nine ten zoo even going to like this church for like recently my whole life and i was really shy as a kid like i. My parents knew like from veering. Woman actor to talk like okay. There's something here. And they haven't performed for like christmas practices. And i remember one year. I was actually three. And thomas. cut play the harmonica to feel good and play the harmonica now at all but before forming. It's my family like all the time but when it came to like the outside people i never really did it. I mean they're really. They seem very supportive of the stuff. That print out Addi- any like you know judge mental type stuff. Because you know some people can be that way but yes. They're really supportive so nobody from churches like this is not the true where god now now thankfully. I'm pretty sure there's some is really huge so like different regions all over the world and in chicago we have like a couple of It's around and so the region that i go to in chicago like the downtown south region. I've seen like secular covers but actual music like it's not all like it's not like christian music. It's religious music. Life in there are songs that are about god but for the most part is just regular music. So i don't know how those some about that. I don't know of course not negative as in like what i do. A sound at the most important thing is that. I am comfortable with what. I'm doing a sound Just in general. Like i think we all you know have our own times. We are hard ourselves. But i've missed a lot of the times can be very critical of myself in i've been working on is taking breaks from social media and like just kind of focusing in on me and who i am and what i want myself to be and being comfortable with that in not listening repealing inch anything else or what. The world tells me that. I should look like because honestly i of being an artist. I'm going to be a little different than what the world would probably want me to be a so has been preparing myself to be confident little. No that's good. What i was referring to wasn't even just people say i don't really like their music. It's just that say it's all on social media while. But i think even on to tie while tiktok is sort of embraced that sort of a like a either controversial or the negative spouts between each other and why was veering. Wasn't actually someone coming into your comments in telling you that you suck at singing but someone coming at anat again like Racism and sexism to add to kind of belittle yourself as a person. So what does i mean. It's not really some thing that i feel anyone. Could i always think maybe there was a safe space. Remembering Carl Reiner, A Legendary Writer, Producer And Performer
"This is fresh air when Carl Reiner sitcom pilot starring him, his TV writer Rob Petrie was rejected by CBS producer Sheldon Leonard rescued it by persuading Reiner to replace the entire cast, including Reiner himself. The result. The Dick Van Dyke show was a major TV hit and made a star of its then unknown leading lady Mary Tyler Moore. Terry Gross spoke with her about the show and her TV character in 1995. What were you told about the character of Laura? Just that she was going to be a wife, a television wife, and that really had its classical parameters and dimensions that they were established. And they hardly ever varied except A Sze to whether or not the wife was the star of the show. In which case she was the funny one. Or if she were the straight man for the male star, and she was then totally supportive, but all these wives We're kind of obedient and you know, a representative of the vows to love, honor and obey. They hardly varied from that, and With with Carl Reiners character the way she was written, Laura actually had opinions of her own. While she was asserting herself. She also didn't make Dick Van Dyke look like a dummy. It was ah, a matter of two people. I mean, society's expectations of that point still said, Hey, wait a minute, lady. You only go so far here, but I think we broke new ground. And and that was helped by my insistence on wearing Pants. You know, jeans and and capri pants at the time because I said, I've I've seen all the other actresses, and they're always running the vacuum in these little flowered frocks with high heels on And I don't do that. And I don't know any of my friends to do that. So why don't we try to make this real and I'll dress on the show the way I do in real life, But it wasn't that easy. The sponsors were afraid you brazen right? They pointed specifically to if they used the term cupping under And I can only assume that that meant my you know my my seat that there was a little too much definition. And so they allowed me to continue to wear them in one episode. One scene per episode. And only after we check to make sure that there was a little cupping under as possible could coming under referring to the fit of your pants, the fit of the pants on my behind, right? But within a few weeks we were we were sneaking them into a few other scenes in every episode, and they were definitely cutting under and everyone thought it was great. The funny thing is, you know. Women liked me. They were not envious of the fact that their husbands had a crush on me. It was okay with them. They they were the first to know when I would meet people. They'd say My husband loves you so much. And he thinks you're so sexy. And this was it was not thing because they were also able to identify with me as a friend as a girlfriend. There was no resentment, no fear. Yeah, well, I think that that speaks so well for the character and your your portrayal of her. Did you do a lot of rehearsing with Dick Van Dyke? Or did you just have to do it? Minutes before the actual broken? The whole show was done in what they call multiple camera technique could still done today. But back then we were maybe the sixth or seventh show to use the technique. It began with Joan Davis, not Lucille Ball as everyone thinks John Davis did a show called I married Joan. What a girl! What a world What a life! Hey for you, and then Lucy and several other shows followed. But in that show it's a little like doing theater that's captured on film. You rehearsed for five days and then Ah, On the evening of the fifth day, the audience comes in and the camera's having blocked their moves in yours lined up with them. You film it from top to bottom in continuity. So during those five days, it was at least the 1st 3 days. It was very much a matter of rehearse. And contribute and attempt things and not be afraid to fail to make a fool of yourself. Just pick yourself up. And if it didn't happen this time, then the next time the experiment maybe it will Was a wonderfully supportive creative environment. Mary Tyler Moore, speaking to Terry Gross in 1995.

The nurse asked if anyone was clean after mid sedation. I wake up and also look up seeing my name on the TV. My tea and toast was dressed in waiting to navigate past the nurses station but I got caught my code. He's jailbreak matron came around the corner asking where I was going quickly replied looking down. The corridor pasta to random man shouted coo mark then shuffling by the desk in towards the man saying this random person was my brother. The nurse I kept going never looks back so he escaped under anaesthetic with a stranger. He had just pretended he needed a stranger and then used him to get past the Matrix. Has Life Knocked You Out?
"So here's what we're going to talk about today. Has Life knocked you out? This was interesting. I was just doing some reading. I was online just looking at some different stuff in reading. Different things you guys know. I'm I'm super nerd. And I love to read 'em research and that's how I get a lot of topic ideas for you guys to like. You guys will make comments in the facebook group or something or your message me and ask me some questions or people that hire me as their coach will have conversation about certain things and it will just kind of piqued my interest in all jump online and start digging a little deeper into those topics. And that's how I I decide what topics to do on the show. So we've been talking a lot recently about just happiness in general and actually have a client who airs twentysomethings a young guy. Good Looking Kid. Good job goes to the gym. And he's really struggling kind of with happiness in general and he asked me like he said to me Angela. Where are all these people that I see in the world like are all these people really thriving or do they just look like they're thriving and they're really just surviving and I thought it was such a fascinating question because I think you know we talk about this a lot on this show where I think people we do have a tendency to Kinda shore best moments right with social media? Everybody is so much more out there than we used to be for sure. And it's too easy to kind of highlight all of our best moments and not show the lower moments in the struggles. You know we don't tend to talk about those things as much so I started digging around and one of the first things I came across was an article about the twenty nineteen world happiness report and it said negative feelings are rising around the world and the United States is particularly hard hit with an epidemic of addictions and man what a fascinating statement right epidemic of addictions had think. A lot of that too is there are a lot of different addictions that we don't even talk about that much right. There's this whole tech addiction. That's happening right now. Everybody is addicted to their phones and computers and Social Media and porn and sex addiction which also ties into tech because now everybody can have pornography right in their hand everywhere they go all day long and of course. Food addiction is huge. And I think we've always known that. In for many years we've talked about obesity and heart disease and diabetes and some of those issues that go with poor eating habits. But we don't necessarily talk about it a lot in the sense that it's a food addiction right disordered eating in those kinds of things so an epidemic of addictions in the United States. And I think that's really accurate. It's kind of sad but it is really accurate. So here's the question about. Are we actually thriving or just surviving? I think we have this tendency to look at other people and think that they're always doing better than we are. You know we look at other people and think they've got it figured out better than we do but do they really are they actually just surviving and on the inside their feeling equally as overwhelmed and as exhausted as you are in the other article. I found was on huff post and this is really going to be the crux of our episode today and this was written by Cathy. Capri no on Huffpost DOT COM. And she pulled her audience. Okay and she did. Let me see what it says. Here she put up the survey to her community and seven hundred. People had responded at the time that she wrote this. This was a couple years ago. Seven hundred people had responded so far. The key question was if you could say in one word what you want more of in life. What would that be? Sounds simple right of all? The things people responded. She took the ten most frequently mentioned things. And she wrote this article. And of course I will link to the full article This is just my take on certain ones that I think. Go Hand in hand with what we talk about on this podcast all the time and making changes in our lives and trying to live better lives in really trying to feel better because for us in this context of sobriety and recovery. I have to do a lot of work in these other areas and I have to feel good in these other areas. Because that's what will allow me to remain sober comfortably. I willing to the full article if you WanNa read the whole thing. It's really really good. It's not super long so of course I'll put that link in it's it's a great article but this piqued my interest. Because when I read it I think as addicted people you like to think that you are more broken than everyone else or you think. You're weak because you have addiction and what I really want you to see what this article is. Everyone addiction or not struggles with the same issues. The majority of people as human beings we want the same things and as a society we are desperately lacking lives that are happy and fulfilling whether we have addiction or not and I want you to really hear that. Everyone is struggling to be happy and feel happy. Everyone is questioning themselves in feeling like they don't have enough time and feeling guilty because they aren't being a good parent or they aren't being a partner to their partner. There are a ton of people who aren't doing jobs they love who WanNa make more money and a ton of people who have taken a beating by life and have super low self esteem. You don't have these struggles because you are an alcoholic and F. up beyond repair and I know that's what you think so. Stop It stop. You are human. You are not week. Life is hard so I picked a handful of the responses to this survey. We're GONNA talk about how we're missing the mark. How To better understand it and what to do to feel better in. Get closer to that life that you want and deserve. Let me read the intro again. Just to refresh you. Huffpost DOT COM by Kathy Capri. No if you could say in one word what you would want more of in life. What would that be? She goes on to say of all the things people indicated. They wanted more of following. Were the ten most frequently mentioned. Here's my take on what's missing in life and work today in why we can't get enough of these precious ingredients and then she includes a quote in each one that I will read as well and again I will link to the I willing to that full article So you can get there and read that also so the number one thing that people said they were missing the one thing number one response was happiness and the biggest challenge took a quote in all these quotes from actual respondents right. These are real. People quotes biggest challenge. Not Knowing what I want to do and she writes the number. One mentioned missing element was happiness. It has become so hard to achieve an even harder to maintain in my work with professional women. I've seen that happiness continually escapes them. Because I they don't really understand exactly what will make them happy. They just don't know themselves well at all secondly they search outside themselves for happiness in a job husband a family a title a paycheck a Fancy House as a result happiness is constantly out of their control and a perpetual moving target. That never stands still long enough for them to grasp. I'm not saying that these things don't bring happiness. Of course they can the key point. Is that if everything you are searching for remains outside of you you'll always be scrambling and chasing. I don't know about you but I to remember a lot of this same conversation in a lot of these podcast episodes like this is the stuff we talk about you guys in and remember. She's not talking to people with addiction. This is her community obviously. It sounds like she works with professional women. I don't know exactly what her community is I just found the article like I said on Huff Post but these are not people with addiction. But what she described is exactly what we do. As addicted people right. We look for things outside of ourselves to change how we feel on the

Too Big stops while you know when I think about it of all the places I could stay with a tour group Sorrento. You could spend a lot of nights there I think because from that home base you can see Capri you can see leave. You can see POMPEII and of course you can make that excursion done the Amalfi coast tight. Everybody wants to go to the famous places on the Amalfi the town of a Mafia Pussy Tano Rebelo but there must be another dimension because even parking your car is like impossible in a multi. It's become impossible. It really has become impossible on those seems to be the cities that are more advertised to the American market. That they're familiar with the name. But there's so many places between those cities and passed. I following the same drive and you're even extending it even as far as Salerno so there is that drive. It's the coastal highway one. Oh One kinda that's exactly right. It is a narrow road with a lot of buses. I remember they had a situation. What was the deal? One day everybody will go north and the other day everybody go south or what is that. They they tried with smaller buses. This is that now. You can't go with anything longer than a certain things so that they could pass correctly then the guy to the alternative license plates then they got to the permits that you'd you'd have to apply for a permit and now it's one way can go down but they have to come back a different way. They can't come back the same way. Oh I didn't know that okay so it is north to south and then you can go back inland top and come back on the tollway from Salerno. Okay this is travel with Rick Steves. We're talking with Enron. We're talking about out for adopted neighborhood. The mafi coast. Why is there so much intrigue about the Amalfi Coast? What is it about it that brings all the people are so they're they're very very well advertised for fashion for food for the Liebmann cello for pottery and just the spectacular very high end restaurants and hotels when he puts a ton of it was like made for jeters just a gorgeous tiny little Kabul town? But it's got all these design shops and the yachts on the ads that that are outside of Posey. Tommy you gotta get to know somebody down at the port so that you know who's in town. Oh my goodness so as just part of the rabble who does never yacht you can be stuck stuck outside the town wondering why can't get it in. So where where would you go. That's not one of the famous places so of course it. You certainly want to see the whole Amalfi coast but once you get to Amalfi Oh fi you can whether you you're driving you continue on or if you take the public bus you just swap and you can go further on me. Noti and my Odi are called minor in major ager. Those are beach communities that are very well known with Italians but not so much with the foreigners and my experience in Minori is that there are a lot of big simple simple hotels that have affordable room very likely to have his body. Yeah a little bit cheaper. Prices minority am I am or I and then the sister city Meharry Meharry M. A. I. O. R. is that literally major and minor yes named after the branches of a river and then from there. You've got access to a Nice beach very nice beach sir. My odious major is the largest beach flat beach much better than Posey. Tanno much better than a mouth. Isn't that ironic. Cheaper people go go to the beach and they go to Positano and they don't get nice pay three times. The amount and I would think minorities just half an hour away from some of these other. Famous prices exactly act on a public bus. A public bus and the bus would come by every Roman history. There are women remains in that town of minority as well. So it's not just that you go there for a beach you can have a walk around and have a look at the history now. There's a very popular walk that goes from up in the hills in Rabelo down to Amalfi the town It's it's just dramatic. Walk talk a little bit about the hikes possible in the mall. Fico straight we have a again they sell hiking maps that take you all either horizontally right across the mountain or up and down and of course our most famous one is the pathway of the gods that starts up above mouthy heads in finishes above Posey channel. So you've got the sea in front of you the whole time while you're walking for the kind of Hecker that likes to have gravity be on your side. You can take a bus or taxi up to the tonight you start at the top and then working down and then work your way
