"The Atlantic now to take in the sights and sounds of design Miami, which wrapped up over the weekend. Monocles U.S. editor Chris Lorde went along and sent us this report. The 18th edition of design Miami brought together over 50 galleries, as well as talks, tributes, and 35,000 design lovers, traipsing the booths. The loose theme this year was the golden age. It's not the age where unfortunately we are living in. It's some sort of in inspiration and wants to be a wish for the future. Design Miami's curatorial director, Maria Christina diderot. If we all got together innovation technology, and of course, people that may be all together, we can do something about the world about the planet, about ourselves, just like its land, to think that if we are all together, then we can make it. It's a laudable sounding ambition, but Miami itself is shining right now. The last few years have seen a huge influx of newcomers to the city, especially New Yorkers coming for sun, but also opportunity as a city really establishes itself as a crossroads of tech, finance, art, and design. I asked the CEO of design Miami, Jennifer Roberts, what that influx has meant for the local collector base. We've seen a tremendous increase in high net worth transplants. But they're coming from all over their coming from New York from California throughout the U.S.. But in terms of people who are buying historic homes or building new homes, I think this is one of the years that we'll see exactly what the impact is. I don't think it's been that evident because we didn't have a full sized fare last year. We were still sort of recovering from COVID and this year is our first year out of the gate. So I think we've seen record numbers of registrations and I imagine that a lot of that will be local. I've met many, many people that attribute their moving to Miami to the fairs and opening their eyes up to what the city is really like. Now there's great diversity here, but in the past 20 years since our Basel in 18 years from its design Miami started, we've seen the influence of design and architecture on the developments here, and obviously Craig Robbins with the design district is really a visionary in that realm. So he very cleverly realized that by integrating public art great architecture very architecture and public design, you would attract a public in a different way and create a neighborhood from it. And I think what we've seen is that has spilled out into many other pockets of the city, but now you'll also see world class architects doing incredible projects all over and if you talk to some of the real estate agents, they will tell you that the way the buildings are designed now is to be able to provide great space for exhibiting art and design. Design Miami's Jennifer Roberts, there was a lot of new work at the fair this year too. Yes, a smattering of modernist big hitters like Jean prevail, but many galleries turned up with an array of first timers. The future perfect, for example, debuted no less than 30 brand new works, including a sofa made of resin balloons, and a Scully gallery is a New York space that's not even two years old, and is already making its mark. 9 female land studios, all the work is new for this booth. So all commissioned, you know, we really wanted to show a range of fantastic women designers that we work with. There's mirrors everywhere here. There's one huge piece, beautiful piece is with this kind of amazing undulate in form around the outside. And then all these small little pieces. The large mirrors by Simone bodmer Turner, it's her first time at the fair. She's known as a ceramicist, but also works in plaster and has some done some really beautiful large scale plaster custom commissions. It's the amazing frame that's around the outside. Yes, exactly right. And then we can see this as a gallery wall of mirrors behind. We went to designers and gave them a 18 inch diameter max in order to fit everybody in and keep the booth really cohesive. So if you were standing here looking at the wall that we're looking at, you'll see. We'll see those two. Looking back. And you'll see us looking back right back at you. There's been a lot of interest in Miami in the last couple of years because you've seen this huge influx of people moving from within America to the coast, especially from New York, in fact. What are exhibitors saying about the energy amongst the collectors here? We are in New York based gallery and love being in New York. But we sell a lot to Miami already. We know a lot of collectors are here. I think this is a great time of year to reach the global clientele that comes here spends winners in South Florida, as well as people who are moving here and building, so there's a lot of excitement. Can you tell us anything exciting from this morning's Russian hustle or anything, any little news you might be able to share? We've made some sales this morning, which is great. And you know, as a first time exhibitor, we didn't know how it was going to go. And the Scully. The best booths are those that don't look like showrooms, but feel thoughtful, considered. Argo projects from Mexico City covered their entire booth and bright sun soaked tiles. Here's the gallery's cofounder Rodman pre Mac. We have been working on this project with our designer Fabian Capello, who's a French designer based in Guadalajara, Mexico, for a number of years. And we've wanted to bring forward this collection of unique artworks that are basically tile murals that can be applied to a home or to a public project in some format, each one of them is unique. So we actually brought it and installed it and completely covered the booth with these tiles. And, you know, people are really liking it. And Fabian worked with a very well-known Guadalajara based ceramic studio code ceramic. Just tell me a bit about that. Ceramica suro and Jose noe suro are a really kind of a lodestar in the creative community in Mexico. So many of our artists friends have come to Guadalajara to work with Jose because he's really willing to explore what can be done or what hasn't been done before or what we'd like to do in ceramic. It's brilliant because it brings a bit of south of the border the light to this booth, doesn't it? It brings a whole place to life. Just talk me through a little bit the collection that lives on these tiles now because you've got some great pieces around this hill. All right, I'd love to tell you a little bit about a table by Lance atelier, which is an architect husband and wife based in Mexico City. And they've created the steel dining room table in which the chairs are nestled inside of the table. There's no interruption to the table surface and it has this kind of beautiful bulbous shape, almost like clouds. And this becomes like a sculpture, like a volume that's all contained within this form. Ceramics were in abundance this year's design Miami. Lebanese designer nada debs worked with manufacturing giant Cola to create a hammam bathhouse right there in design Miami, with all the tiles made from

"Conte was a tough one in the preseason. Both of them, for them, there's no friendly game. There's no friendly game. So even the first easy game, you know, that you have as a friendly you need to we need to perform very well. You need to be concentrate a 100%. This is one way. Then I have a different coaches, for example, lipid that was a little bit different. You know, you consider what's going on during the precision, how much you work in order to get in shape. And sometimes can happen that you have some problem. So you consider the full pictures. But Conte and cappella, the stronger one and the precision for the attitude that you need to put on the field. Alessandro Stevie is talking about to call being an angry man. Who was the most angry when they were at their angriest Capello or Conte? Well, let me tell you this. It's funny because cappello became M great most of the time, but during the halftime, when we were winning three four zero. So we perform an amazing game in Siena. We're winning three zero easily and two crossbar. Amazing football. We came back in the locker room. No, not with the big smile. Not even talk too much, but it was worried about what's going to happen in the second half, the lack of concentration. So it starts screening. All of the sudden. Are you have to do this? You have to do that. You need to do this. Be careful. I thought we look at each other and say, what's going on? I will win in three zero. We're losing three zero. So that's the interesting way to make understand the team where we are. Yeah, you perform well, but you need to see performing well in the second half. In order to do not destroy everything that you did. This is a clear example that stay in my mind for rages. Now I'd start crying. I'm not taking well. Thank you very much, guys. "Us that human connection is ours for the taking. I know lots of people who have their favorite coffee shop and their favorite barista at the coffee shop, who knows their order and I thought that's a pretty cool relationship. It makes people feel good and it's great for the coffee shop too because you're going to keep coming back aren't you? That's right. Jillian's research is rooted in something I think we can all appreciate. Free caffeinated beverages. And I thought I kind of want to study that relationship, you know? How can I study that and see if I can find evidence that people are happier because they have that relationship. But I couldn't really figure out exactly how to do that. So what I ended up doing instead was studying people going into the coffee shop, but not necessarily having an existing relationship already with the barista. But just sort of trying to manipulate the interaction that they did have. So in Julian study, there are two groups. One group that's tasked with being super efficient with their interaction with the barista. And another group that was told to be just a little bit friendlier to strike up a little checked. And now it's time for one of those really cheesy headlines. Do you know what happened next? Click to reveal. So both sets of people went in, they bought their coffee, and when they came out, we just asked them a few questions, and it turned out that the people who had had that little tiny chat with the barista, they were in a better mood, and they felt more satisfied with their Starbucks experience, and they felt more connected to other people. It just changed their day a little bit. The tiniest bit. Yeah. So much about friendship is about feeling connected to other people. And here's a deep thought are you ready? Your next close friend might just be a stranger to you right now. I know, it sounds like some Mr. Rogers stuff to say it, but it's true. And just to be clear, this does not mean that you should chat up every sainted barista who hands you a scone and also please be ready and willing to back off if somebody's not interested, okay? Don't be weird. Got it. Okay. That being said, this is an invitation to take the opportunities you have in front of you to feel like you're connected to other humans in the world. As I think we've established, making a new friend is intimidating and terrifying for everyone. And if you need a little bit more encouragement to start putting yourself out there, there's another thing that Julian told me about that super helpful. There are studies that show that that little voice that starts up in your head when you walk away from an interaction, you know that one that's like, oh my God, that person hated me, wow. You know this voice. Please tell me you know what this voice is. Anyway, that voice is lying. When you talk to someone else, you're actually going to brighten their day. You're going to put them in a good mood. And there's research for myself, but also from Nick epley and Juliana Schroeder, showing that this is the case that both parties enjoy it when people do have these kind of conversations. Takeaway number two is here, my Friends. People actually like you more than you think they do. It's actually called the liking gap and Jillian has research that says that we're pretty bad at gauging how much people like us. So this is me giving you permission to tell that little voice to go suck on an egg. Heather of ask pauli knows that voice too. I can not say enough about how important it is to understand the bubble of shame that you're walking through the world with like an astronaut. And also, you need to notice the voices in your head and how they talk to you when you're talking to other people. Because I had a voice that said, oh, did you see that look on her face? She thinks you're pathetic. You're like a sad unwieldy blob of a human now and nobody likes you. You know, was like the running thing in my head. Oh, you're not a sad little blob. You're gonna be okay. So the next time you're wandering through the world feeling a little bit lonely and uncertain, try and remind yourself that there's a big chance that a stranger will actually enjoy talking to you and that it will make your day and theirs a little bit better. You know why? Because everyone needs Friends. And there's a lot of dark stuff in the world that makes it hard to feel okay reaching out, but really that's the only way to begin. Speaking of ways to begin, I gotta recognize the advice that literally anyone will tell you if you say to them that you want to make new friends. I wonder, I wonder if you can guess this advice. Basically, the first thing everybody says to folks that are looking for new Friends is why don't you try a hobby? Join a club, take up chess, bird watching, trivia, circus. Well, I'm here to tell you that this advice is very common because honestly, it works. And this is our third takeaway. Invest in the things that you love to do. Take the case of Cassidy Capello who called in with some very sage advice about finding friends through CrossFit. Ya ya ya roll your eyes or whatever, but it worked for her. It's more than just working out. You know, they do social things together on the weekends, trivia night stuff like that. So that's where we made a lot of our friends in Georgia and it was great because then you knew if you were gonna go work out, you get to see them. So it's not like you're having to schedule outings. Like you know, okay, if I work out three times a week, I'm gonna see my Friends at the gym three times a week and get to know them better. So this advice that everybody talks about where they're like, join a club, do a thing. Blah, blah blah. It's a win win. Well, they're kind of right. You're doing something for yourself and you're also caring for the part of you that wants to meet new people. You know, when we're in our 30s, we have so many responsibilities that we didn't have when we were younger. So it's like this built in social place, but you're also doing something great for yourself too. As you can imagine, a lot of people ask Heather versions of the how to make Friends question. And of course, she's got a great answer. I actually kind of have boiled it down to in my column. I've boiled it down to something more like you need to live your life in ways that you don't feel like you're wasting your time. You need to do things that don't feel like a waste of time. What feels really worthwhile to you, what feels enriching and beautiful and good, you know? Do the things you're passionate about, and you will naturally draw people to you and you'll naturally connect with other people because you'll be in the right place. I think it sounds hollowed out when it's like, you're there to make friends. You know, it just feels like what? It's a job, you know, join the club, because you want to join a club and then keep your eyes open and watch. I think that taking the you've got to do this out of it is also really comforting and helpful. The point here is that finding something you love to do and really dedicating yourself to it will help you find your people. And if you're having fun, but you're not meeting any new friends, remind yourself that you don't have to be about just one thing. You my friend contain multitudes. You can try chess and basketball and fire eating and macrobiotic cooking. It's good advice to join clubs. It's good advice to say, what do I love doing? I'll go do that and there will be other people who love to do that too there. Yeah. Join an organization that supports a cause that you care about. Go to places that you love where other people are there just because they love that place. Okay, here's another thing that people say a lot when you ask them about making friends as an adult. Are you ready? Making Friends as an adult is kind of like dating. But it's true. And this is takeaway number four. It's okay to treat friendship as seriously as you treat dating. I mean, when you're dating, you have to keep putting yourself out there, champ, you know? And in all of the reporting that I've come across, it feels like if people looked at their friendships and took them seriously in the way that they do their romantic partnerships, people might be able to wrap their head around it in a better way. Here's what it looked like for our CrossFit friend Cassidy. There was a specific girl at the gym that I kind of admired from afar. She just seemed really cool and she looked like someone that I would get along with. So I kinda did a little social media stalking and found out she was so cool. And I just was like, I've got to go for it. Keywords here are go for it. And it ended up being a total win win for Cassidy. She even talked to her new friend about how she.

"Alessandro mentioned it is quite the striking Serie A table at the moment. Napoleon A.C. Milan both registering victories this weekend to continue their fine start to the season currently sitting on 31 points apiece, but it is Juventus, sitting in 9th, 16 points already off the top spot after just 11 matches, which has been the big talking point in Italy. You take a look at what allegories had to say about it all we have to accept the reality that right now we are a mid table team. We can get out of this situation with a little more determination and quality our mistake was assuming we were better than Verona and right now. We are not. We are lacking that desire to fight it out because games are a battle. But scudetto, well, today was almost the final step for that. Well, I'll tell you what Monday's sports newspapers in it's the grim reeling for uve. Well, it's taking you through the 6, shall we? Allegri's reportedly disappointed with the likes of ravioli's ASCII, Ben some core maratha, keen and Arthur and this is all, of course, happening as they now take themselves away from everyone to try and work it through and try and get themselves back on track. Fabio Capello never wants short of opinion, said, I told him that he would have become the scapegoat for all the problems I told him not to return to Juventus. They have a winning DNA, but right now you can't see it. Players are not doing what they should. Everybody thinks it's the coach's fault, but it's not like this. Right Alessandra, where should we start? Where do you want to start with all of this when it comes to events?.

"A former sunbelt freshman of the year. The reigning sunbelt player of the year. Yes. Average 19.3 .7 .2 Reeves is a 6 one guard average in 7.2 rebound. You don't see that every day. No, he was really good all around player. And it's harder to do. Averaged 7.2 rebounds per game at the divisional level as a 6 one guard or parthe part to see. No hesitation. No hesitation. He picked Michigan over Memphis, Texas, and Texas tax. He's good. He is good. No, but let's just see how the jump up happens here. I'm still taking produce top three over Michigan top three. I didn't know hesitation for me. And Capello, you're right, when you mentioned them to switching to Illinois, obviously. Everybody does have him labeled as a breakout guy and I'm not doubting that he will be. He only averaged 9.1 points last season, but that's because he played on team with IoT sumo. There's only so much you can do, you know? He did average 12.7 points in Illinois's final ten games. Mike, and this isn't a concern. He's a non shooter. He's got to expand that. Non shooter, and sometimes he gets a little too flashy for his own good. But man if he unlocks it, forget about it. But I know he's got to become a better shooter. No doubt about it. But I think he's a really good all around player. I think Illinois, if it's going to have a weakness, we'll kind of save this for the align eye podcast. It is just that. How efficient can their offense be? And will it need to be efficient at a high rate if it's going to truly contest and win this league championship? So those are the top three we think in the Big Ten Purdue Illinois and Michigan in some order. We'll turn our attention to the rest of the league. Here in a second, but first, check this out. The.

If the stars paintcare ears are are bound or it would like to it in easy You could see it being easy when you see them riding a nostalgia wave i mean yeah exactly so i i be all in i. Yeah i mean it'd been the perfect time to announce it talk about it with the twentieth anniversary. And of course the box blu ray said but all right so moving in the next one is the kind of the other video game that was talking about that was supposed to come out in twenty twenty one. And that's batman gotham knights and we are a more storyteller trailer narrated different half of the story narrated by ping one basically try and tell in the court doesn't exist and enter intercut with you know it was a little quick panel wisconsin. Greg capello talking about the court of appeals in creating it and going up there and seeing them making the game to life and the graphics look great. They look even better in now. I'm worried that gotham discount to be just a next gen game but time he comes out. I'm going to have to buy. Ps five choice by siri approach. Yeah so is being after buying xbox series ex but i love the court of owls on it's been like the biggest thing to come out of the new fifty two you know the biggest thing that's happened to baton it a long time and i said you look a little photo i put together. That shows the court in the comics then when they appeared in Batman versus robin which they got the movie there then how they did among gotham which their mass on gotham sucked because regular quarterback master so creepy and then at the bottom of shot of some in the court in the video game. So i mean it's definitely a some that would be awesome. You know and live action. Something that maybe you know. This is museum that they could build into matt reeves's reeves's world not supposed television show and everything that he's building in his batman universe or whatever i think the court would be awesome. But when you think about the game brian. Un character. You wanna be night wing. I mean hello. Now man. I i mean i'm definitely played in probably the most I am. I'm looking forward to to cima tim. Jury batman or robin my gosh Like they said that every character will play different. And tim's going to have a like a little short teleport thing. So i almost feel like all play his nightcrawlers anthem. I'm i'm very excited like Especially if you guys get a playstation vibes we can like the four or three of us and play together fourth. Be amazing if they play on. I mean you know solomon has already signed this all our characters that we have to play the game as so. Janine has to go to the game as bad girl. I have to go to the game as night. Ring zaman of course of the game is red hood and saleh is robin so we we have our own. She's on jimmy. She was originally ish you know he had said background she said no. I'm taking robin bikes. So gene is the one that kinda of guy drop-off character like okay. So the next the next panel was bad woman. It was a visa. An rachel canal talking and then they had a little spotlight on luke fox combat wing which was cool. But you know the chaudhari premiered for season three. So they weren't really giving us anything new or showing anything at all and then we got the trailer for back for cattleman hunted and it's a count woman feature film but looks is very very anime airy. It's not utterly problem. It's not as many as to drag balls. It's not as anime as a boost. The batman one. Yeah the the one. Like dc bernice. I don't own Cattleman hunted february eighth. And this is what i'm going to buy in. I usually buy them all. You know. I like may i haven't gotten into but it's not i don't know i just have gotten i have watched it and i'm not and i may take a look at this. See see what it looks to be my daughter. could she ban metaphors with fugitives. But out of that panel. We were told that we're getting basically. I said five movies but me. It's really four announce it is five movies but we have the bonus so here we go. This is our sleep. No art released no information. Just names cowman hunted. The next one is constantine house of mystery which is could be short and then -partment. It'll have all the other showcase shorts on the release the next film of teen. Titans go in dc superhero girls mayhem of the multi verse. So i wonder if that'll be kind of a continuation of where they were together. We'll be continuation of what happened in teen. Titans go versus teen titans. I hope a little bit. Abo- me too. I do teen titans go versus team tight fantastic. I love the crossover space house. Crossover superhero girl also. Yeah it was. It was fun his actually was time and then the next one. I think i've bought those. I did green lantern. Beware my power. And that one makes me wonder if it'll be the green lane of the new continuity. Just because i say that because so far everything that's on here doesn't time into the constitution and there's no justice league movie. There's no batman movie except the last one is battle of super sons which the first.

"Surprise off. You know it's interesting to related to free agency and extensions etc. I remember when lebron and the decision happened in the very next. Cba dan gilbert was like. We need to get rid of signing trades. Because i wanted to go to seventeen and you know because we still wanted to get something for them. We were able to assign trade in. It was the stupidest thing that they dislike. I did a signing trade. Who somehow what was forcing people. Do not want to leave the city of cleveland for the rest of their life and so to watch all these signing trades now happen on top of extensions on being even more common than before like i do think like robson. This is just a new paradigm especially if you know if gaza willing to requested tradesman four years left when deal play. What's the point of three agency at this point. What helps to that. The extension rules which have been changed over recent years. They're not great still in terms of being a realistic option for players. Like it still behooves a lot of guys to hit the market. But they're just a little bit more reasonable a little bit. More friendly golic cappella can get a near. You know fifteen to twenty percent raise over his salary going into a couple extra years on his deals that makes sense for for someone like him his position so case by case. I think it's just becoming more realistic option and whenever the next as negotiated will i mean who knows when that's going to be at this point. Think all parties are kind of incentivized to just hold down the ford and and try to weather through some of the economic uncertainty. But when that happens. I'm really curious to see what happens with the extension rules because there's no doubt that teams would like a little more flexibility to get and keep their best players under contract. We'll see if there we'll see if they bargain for that and allow themselves to do that for now. It definitely seems to be benefiting. The capello's of the world like the middle class player. It's definitely nothing. That's out music right now. And and i've and when are we still recording or is it done recording okay. We me and my team. We've done this interesting thing. Where we we actually have. I've actually never heard of this This is interesting for any artists who is really really trying to up your game and you know take criticism because because that is the hardest thing to do is artists in my opinion is take criticism and and you know understand when it's time to be like yeah you're right. Let me try this instead. That's that's not easy to do and what we've actually done. Is we go into discord servers and we hold actual focus groups with people and we. We actually send them a a multiple choice like forum. She where they see if they can understand the exposition that narrative. What they're able to understand that way when they say we didn't get this part or we do understand the part or why did this happen. Why is this character doing this. Why is this arc. Make no sense. Why is this. You know what i mean. We're able to. Actually you know like oh great. Thanks for the feedback. We're going to go back into the lab and we're going to work on this and we're going to make it better and then we come back and then that answer changes. Oh no no no. This is way better. I understand this perfectly now. Like oh okay so so. The narrative is coming across better. Good so focus. Groups have been a huge help for this. Because like i personally haven't seen anybody going into to discourse every symbol. Hey can you guys focus group. My album see people doing. It's a very interesting approach. But it's working because we're actually able to get like really really good feedback from people you know to create. We're trying to create a cult classic right now. That's what this is going to be. Interesting at the lot bend. My friend tried to make a whole university in disturb. Really it's hilarious. But he actually tried to do university actual school if failed in in a server. That's.

"I forget who it was from. I'll go back and find it but the tweet was just seen another fan jumped down a twenty foot plus wall to try to get into the inner court near the media entrance. He's telling the stories escorting him away. He had his tickets stolen. You don't get this for november world cup qualifier against bulgaria like the fans. Clearly were ready for this or excited about this in a way. That like is not normal. And i'll tell you what's norm not normal as the planning now. I like an asia. i love nato kickoff. Actually really do like it. Begins meant to be played at night that way. But we're going to pretty much fool. Wembley okay sounds good. After a pandemic where people have been locked up for a long time for the biggest game in the history of english football and we're allowing an opportunity for people to drink all bay that that would that would like at a category one of the top tier category games in england. Like the merseyside derby. Something like that. That wouldn't happen. It's just not the north. London darby is always like the seven thirty. Am kickoff here in new york. My on can't we make it a little later there. There is really good reasons for that. And i think we saw some of them on display tonight the tweet by the way it was. It was sam wallace chief. Football writer for the daily and sunday telegraph newspapers. He was he was there on the scene as many journalists were that witnessed this and took video of it. I mean it can all be seen it was. It was pretty wild. Some of the footage. Before this game and i was thinking about that okay. So let's say you've done that now. You're in the stadium for this game. You don't have a ticket like this is for a lot of english fans. This is the biggest game they've ever seen in their entire lives. That's how you want to consume it. Like i know me i'd be terrified every section that i tried to go into to get a seat like i know i'm in here. I shouldn't be. The police are probably looking for me. There's probably footage of me like i'd be terrified. I wouldn't enjoy any of the game every time you go into a section and the stuart says okay. Let me see your ticket. I'll show you to your seat. What do you have to run away and run to another section before they can catch. Is that how you want to take this in as a fan. That sounds terrible to me. I don't get it. Yeah neither do i to be honest with you. Can i give you the guest list from tonight. List of dignitaries just quickly. So i won't go through all the inaudible guests as it's written down tweeted by miguel delaney bottom. You know alexander. Seffrin was there Fee for president. Gianni infantino the duke of cambridge. The mayor of london. Boris johnson was there. Okay let's go to the list. So you have david beckham okay. When rooney makes sense robbie keane little bit out there but has scored more international goals than anyone on the field that played tonight very good. So jeff i hero sixty six fabio capello managed both managed in italy and and obviously managed england. The national team muccio pocchettino. Okay allesandro nester. All right gianluca zambrotta hero vo six. Tom cruise england score and he fist-bump david beckham right ex- nice go and kate. Moss just came us right there with all that look. It's a major sport. We could do this at the super bowl and probably go through a thousand people that don't just ties. It's yeah it was just funny. Like i don't know. I have just a just a vision of fabio capello and tom cruise just having the most awkward conversation you know when they go to get a cocktail sausages at halftime and tom cruise is just. They're standing in fabio re energetic and just soccer soccer man. i'm in love. I'm in love with soccer. Yeah let's see. Jj we're going to do another podcast on tuesday. Because i i had a section here of most memorable moments from the tournament. I'm wondering if we almost want to like refuse. Tuesday's podcast is more of like a reflective what we just watched over the last month type of deal. I think that's a nice idea we can. We can put it in amongst all the transfer rumors with that when we washing over our bodies don't be like that. Jj we are in for a month. The us plays in it seven. Forty five where. I am right now so the us. Let's see on on the website. It says kickoff is at eight thirty which means it's probably about a nine fifty five kickoff. So we're we're like two hours away from kickoff of the us's marched to a hopefully gold cup triumph. So we'll be talking a lot about that on tuesday. We're not going to be doing an emergency podcast for that tonight. This is kind of the podcast for today. But let's see what kind of unless you have anything anything else that you wanted to get now on the euro final. We'll save the rest of it for tuesday. We'll move to a copa america. No i just saw this tweet from about forty five minutes go from henry. Winter jin sancho. Saka and marcus rash for being racially abused on social media. This this is why england players will continue to take a knee. Also twitter and instagram have to be quicker and stronger stop these hate crimes on their.

Batman will certainly have a lot to contend with in his next battle to save Gotham city and I for one after reading that, and now very interested in what's happening this weekend. So Spoilers follow read or listen or watch at your own risk but I, I have a feeling that this'll set a good foundation or framework for maybe what to expect from the next game coming out. Later this year or at least announced this weekend. But what is the court of owls while the court als has long been legend in Gotham City beware the court of ours began a local nursery rhyme that watches all the time ruling Gotham from shadowed perched behind granite and lime. When Bruce Wayne was placed in a crosshairs of an assassination plot, he learned to court and it's assassins are very real. Some of Gotham wealthiest and most well-connected families make up the court vowels for centuries they used their power and influence to turn the tides of politics and control the city according to their designs often resorting to the use of highly trained assassins called talents to achieve their nefarious goals. The Wayne Family was one of the is a longstanding rivals Alan Wayne one cities, builders, and Bruce's great. Great Grandfather. was plagued by the quarterback until they tortured him to death in nineteen, twenty, two as Bruce himself had heated a legend suspected the court having a hand in his parent's death believing that their murder was bit too random to be mere coincidence in many ways. It was my first case as a detective. He told Dick Grayson Bruce found no trace of them or their involvement in Wayne's death. He's sporadically looked into society is he honed his skills as an adult court alluded his site until he became a target himself Yeah Kinda interesting The story then continues on I'm not GonNa read all about it but I do go over the court of orgin. Notable members of the Court of Appeals and then powers and abilities or read about that a little bit not only to court of Alice Asan's talents strong enough to take on Batman and some of his enemies in the night of the owls tying issues they were able to return from mortal wounds and death itself. Thanks to a chemical compound at gave them Meta. Human regenerative abilities. The judgment to bring them back in a service was made by the court who awaken the assassins when Anita rose to help them reclaim their power in Gotham city towns are also skilled combatants, stealthy and lethal. They wielded clawlike blades as their signature weapons to pierce target in specific parts of the body to make their death as painful as possible Keep in mind the court TV and video games. Wow. How Will Cam Newton Make the Patriots Better?

"All right bill. We're here today to talk about the New England Patriots and Cam specifically began her. They used to film. The Cincinnati bengals sideline for which they were find over a million dollars mosque third round. Pick well the good news. Is that they've decided to uproot their entire organization and totally chance planet quarterback to bury the latest piece of evidence that there maybe not playing by the rules as everybody else. Bill Barnwell is the host of the podcast. The bill Barnwell show. You just, but there are people on the Internet positing that these events are connected. Of course. We are here today to talk about. The other came Cam Newton the New England. Patriots who could have predicted this? IS GOING TO RELEASE CAM to they're going to wait, and the Patriots are going to get him for nothing and they're going to be good. It's going to be awful in offense. It was impossible up to this point. The idea that the only team in the league that to starting quarterback might possibly make a move for the best available starting quarterback on the free agent market see Telepho-, obvious when you lay it out like that, but here's the thing it's June and according to our Adam Schefter. No other teams exception to the Browns who had some interest put in a call then New England goes out, and they get cam for basically nothing veteran minimum with incentives. How bill how? I think it's a combination of things I mean. Obviously the coronavirus has impacted team's ability to see workouts to administer physicals and Cam Newton of course as a player coming off of a serious injury, eight frank injury to the middle of his foot, which cost him pretty much. The entire two thousand nineteen season for that coming off the shoulder surgery has not been healthy in a while, and so you'd figure in a typical circumstance. He would be easy for teams to kind of see what cam has left, and then make an offer only, but there haven't really been teams able to make the sort of offers that would justify starting quarterback role. And then I think from camps perspective he rightfully would rather be making less money with the opportunity to start for the new, England Patriots say a playoff team from a year ago, then serve as a perhaps higher paid backup in a spot where he's unlikely to play. Knowing how little New England paid for him and looking back at some of the other quarterbacks who got jobs during free agency? Are there any teams that you think would have been wise to jump ahead of new? England and WHY IS IT CHICAGO? I do think that the decision to trade for Nick. Foles a player who realistically has if not Worse Injury History Than Cam Newton certainly a comparable injury history when it comes to his checkered past i. do think that the bears would have been in much better shape. Do Not trae draft pick and to sign Cam Newton for much less money than they're going to give nick foles over the next three years and I think there's a handful of teams that. That even if it happened as a backup, I think teams like the steelers. Of course you've talked about the titans as possible CAM, Newton location and I think absolutely teams like that have a veteran quarterback with a history of injuries and very little behind them in the backup role would have absolutely been smart to making move for Cam Newton, but obviously I think it's the Patriots benefit that the League has been so conservative when it's come to approach again. Let's talk about what we can expect out of canning. Which I realize, you are not a doctor, but the big question mark is you've outlined his health the last time we saw him play. Football was the beginning of the two thousand nineteen season. He only played a couple of games before his season ended due to a foot injury, he incurred during the preseason. What did you see out of Cam the last time he was healthy? The last extended stretch we saw from Cam Newton as a healthy quarterback, was the first half of twenty eighteen, and he was excellent. Newton throws. Fabio Capello Panthers one of the best teams in football at six to newton was tenth and Passer Rating Twelve Qbr and the panthers had guilty scheme that was designed to actually trying to out more quickly and leave some of the hits that candidate taking, and we saw his numbers include accordingly. SNAP TO NEWTON looking left throws it over the Middle Touchdown Greg Olsen. Cam Newton looking like a poster on feats. Assume. Thirty so frequently earlier in his career, they always posted pretty mediocre. Completion percentages in two thousand eighteen across the first half you had a completion percentage of sixty seven point three percent that was one of the best marks in football. He was averaging nearly four touchdowns for every pick producing really two hundred eighty yards per game from scrimmage. He was illegitimate MVP candidate through the first half of twenty eighteen. And then of course, the injuries struck. Labor rotator cuff just to soreness. He had a shoulder injury that led to surgery after two thousand eighteen. And then the foot injury cam stumbles Abu to the nearside. He's in trouble. Hit droplet like. Damn comes off the field limping a little bit maybe. But you tried to play through and was unable to do so.

Hussein Fazal of Snap Travel on Working Hard With a Bit of Luck

"From Toronto Your Company Snapped Travel thanks for coming on the podcast figure for having me Yup you got a really interesting company I saw Steph curry was wearing a hat said your company's name in the finals after the game we'll get into that later in the pod but bullets let's start at the beginning of your career you know how do you start to become the person you are today we're when did that happen so I went to the University of Waterloo studied computer science graduated in to that has nine five and went straight into a big company so I worked for a Bell Canada which is one of the largest telecommunications company he's in Canada of course and I was working there as a software developer so they're kind of to a point in my life where I was not really happy working at a big company I was not feeling like I was accomplishing anything it just felt a little bit doc in a bit of a routine in a really wanted to do something else oh so what I started to do is started to just do some coding side project thanks so in two thousand eight I started to build facebook games so this is you know before a lot of people's time times but facebook wasn't on mobile was only desktop and people would build facebook games like Farmville was the most famous one right so sorry Oh facebook games on the side There was an intern who was also a bell Canada in also started to go facebook games on the side and then we started chatting and we said hey how will you make money off your facebook Games WanNa we build an ad network specifically for facebook games so that's how it started quitting Alabel my co-founder kristaps never went back to bell never went back to school and we started that company I'd Parlor in over three years he grew it to be one of the largest facebook ad optimization companies in the world managed over one hundred million dollars of ad spend and ended up selling that company years later well and it all started just with simple side project of building games that lived on facebook yeah I mean it was just it was just of doing something as a side Gig and it was the entrepeneurship curiosity in just kind of having fun with it and I mean you quickly realize once you start aside Gig especially if it starts to get some traction you'll very quickly realize how much more fun that is than your big company job in natural that I start spending evenings and weekends working on it and so just do this full-time right I was of course in a fortunate position not everyone's entitled Fortunate Position But I was an unfortunate that position that you know I was single I was living at home with my parents didn't have any major financial dependencies on it's all I got a mortgage kids or anything like that so I was able to take that risk I was able to say let me quit my job about let me do this fulltime in the worst case scenario of this doesn't work out they can always try and get another full time another full time job right I love it and we talk a lot on this podcast about just kind of the merits of I projects like there's the the upside is really limitless and the downside is pretty minimal I mean it's like you start testing something out you build a game like just something passionate if it works starts to show some signs of of working then great you can put a little more effort into it a little more resources but but if not then like you know there's nothing lost you can just tell society all your friends are like Oh yeah you know I didn't really spend much time on that it just it just wasn't for me it didn't work out but if it does work it's like this is the this could be something here yeah for sure I mean I I always tell people that like I mean if you're in a full time job you're the nine to five that's great light you should really only be in that job if you're actually learning in developing and you should always think about what you can do to learn and grow and outside of that job as well as after hours weekends I mean of course you could spend your time just hanging out watching TV doing what you need to do but William Order to make progress you should spend some of those evening weekend hours on whatever it is you're passionate about or side gigs in that's can unlock a great opportunity. Yup I mean this podcast was and still is a side thing and the way that I think about it is just like when I think about it brings I think about it being delightful versus you know my main thing it's still another start up but it's like that one I set I put these huge expectations on I think a lot of it has to do with expectations setting like a side project you say this is this'll be a side project and like the expectations are pretty minimal purchase your real thing you put these like super lofty goals and like it's tough to reach them it stressful so yeah it's it's it's interesting hearing you talk about this okay so you leave bell you start this company really well then and then and then you sell it like what was that like yeah well I mean there's a lot that happened between opposite starting the company and selling it one thing that would like to point out is a about a urine so but six months to a year into it I actually moved to Silicon Valley Capello does specifically and worked at a Sunnyvale for almost a year and again this was one of those sort of leap of faith moment so he was really just myself and my co-founder at that time we were just kind of you know messing around not really knowing what we were doing and there was this program through the Canadian government whether basically like hey you gotta pay for your own flight and accommodation but we're GONNA set you up in work out of this incubator called the plug and play center in Sunnyvale and you're gonna be able to live in work in San Francisco in Silicone Valley For six months I was like again what's the harm in doing that right so so I did that I spent some time out there in it was amazing when you use around yourself like-minded people you surround yourself with entrepreneurs Funny story ends up living with someone who worked at Facebook we were building facebook Ad Network so obviously there was a lot of opportunity in networking there and then something really interesting happens so we were serving the ads within within facebook apps and then around the time facebook launched something called the ads. API The ads he is essentially meant that you could now buy ads directly on facebook on desktop or on mobile that will a mobile APP programmatic buy ads on facebook in because we had done all this stuff with this facebook display not work because uh-huh I've lived with facebook sales guy I was networking and I was in that environment we were actually one of the few companies to get access to the FACEBOOK ADS API that was a great experience building the company and then new came a certain point in time where it essentially felt like the right time to sell the company and we were getting a Lotta doubt inquiries but more importantly the business was actually getting in order and heart because the facebook ads API that was more competition margins we're getting squeezed sale cycles we're getting longer so so we decided that hey this is this is a good time to to think about the opportunities that we ended up selling the company to add knowledge while and so you know I like how you're talking about the journey of just kind of not putting uncertainty ahead of opportunity it's like lots moved to Silicon Valley what what could I lose is and then you have this you build this deep network there people somewhere thinkers tell you what do you think if you if you didn't move to Silicon Valley the company would have had a similar dri no I I I really don't think so and I I'm a I tell everybody if you if you are attacked entrepreneur in you have the opportunity to go live in the Bali Whether it be San Francisco Paolo Alto or whatever it is like just go right and there's no there's no there's no beating get fine comeback come back to Toronto Build Your Business or or building business anywhere but you extended amount of time in Silicon Valley it's one thing to fly in and out and do meetings but it's something else to live there in network there make friends there because there's no place like that if you're a tech entrepreneur right okay I mean I totally buy that I'm seeing I'm seeing that now these are things that like you start a business and you don't you don't know and then you go through it for a little while I I have so many people who come to me and the asks me at all so I have this opportunity to go should I go should I not go don't even give me your logic don't even give me a reason even give me a pros and cons of just go right so go get out there spent some time out there is definitely going to be worth yet okay so you go you make all these connections you come back to Toronto Continue Building the company you sell the company is that like a life changing event or you like set for life after selling this yeah I mean unless I go and do something stupid yeah it was it was it was great I mean we actually talk no outside investment for parlor it was it was a significant exit so yeah that's that that was okay great like I am now you know
