They are a different bunch of this country is so big we have so many different cultures among us when you when you even stay with native Americans. I mean, there's just crazy all over. But they're just people are different all over this country. Makes it marvelous. And I think the people in those Outer Banks so people like that up in Virginia, and so forth and all the way up the line. They're just, you know, coastal people are much different than inland people. I've found over the years and coastal people, of course, have to live with things that people don't end vice versa. I mean, you know, you look at tornado alley for example. Boy, I'm I'm glad I live there. You know here in Florida elsewhere where we have hurricanes we at least get days of warning. And and that really that ought to help us anybody with any sense takes us warning seriously, and it really should be helpful to people tornados come up instantly, and you know, have very far. To go very early can't run very far. But here we're very lucky because of today with what you guys do with forecast hurricanes for us. And it's better than ever before better than I was a kid growing up in the sixties and stuff, and we're grateful for what you guys do. I'll tell you that we all are very thankful to NASA and satellites that's the biggest change I think that we've had a long time and the computer modeling has gotten so much better because of high speed computers stuff that was impossible to do thirty years ago now routine now seventy four cast now were virtually impossible thirty years ago when they were possible, they weren't very good. How you doing? We're doing good. How about you? I got I got some relatives and family in new Bern. They were they were telling me it's been a current rain starting Thursday night, Thursday, or whatever. Yes, they got twenty five inches. It's saying something they've never seen. Bobby who? Now. To forty miles. Constant rain extolling Donald sheets. They just said they'd never seen anything. Like. Yeah. I understand that they're building an ark right now, actually, and they're gonna launch it and head out the news river back out into Pimlico. Yeah. And. Constantly raining. Never. It's still raining. Yeah. The these are the feeder bands, and we call this training. That's where they they come in in in in the middle part of the United States where there's big thunderstorms and stuff they come in lines. And they they're straight lines. But when you're looking at a radar, and you've got a a tropical circulation, they come in kind of rotating bands. But they're still the same thing they train over the same tracks. So it's one train car after another just pounding. But they have another problem and that was wins on Thursday blowing in raising the water level. Yeah. River. And. Newburn the river ends like in a really small whatever you call it. Get in the ring. Reverend your saints until like, and they just the water just built up from the win something. It's just gonna be bad, man. Well, in fact, if you want to keep listening to us too because coming up we're going to have Lieutenant David Daniels, and he is with the new Bern North Carolina police department. He's going to give us a status report coming up shortly in the next half hour. So yeah, we've got that base covered. And everybody wants to know what's going on there. He did have over four hundred rescues in the city of. One thing when you mentioned about those Dan, go speeder band. I I looked up on the radar in new Bern. And you're right. Those feeder bands, it looks like they just never move for like three days are still there. You know, the same. It's not that why the long and it just was dumping Duffin in Newburgh. And this water has to seek it's own level. So if it rains heavy in one particular area, then it's going to obviously spread out into the land nearby. And it's going to find its way down to the nearest rivers and those rivers and almost every single case are full and they're on their way to record setting river heights. Well, one minute. They have the sewer plant over there. Oh, yeah. Underwater right now, Burge whatever what you were saying. I mean, things ain't look at you saying looking good, man know, in fact, we'll be we'll be talking with Kim McCloud coming up in South Carolina, and also will be we'll be talking I believe with Pam Pam Walker coming up next and one of the questions that we have for Pam is what about the large areas where there are hog farms where there's flooding going on. And and you know, what's this water quality gonna be when when we get done is going to be a source for good drinking water. Yes. We're going to be some bottled water going on for well, Tom. Yeah. Hurricane Florence's outer rain bands moving over N.C. Outer Banks
"Thank you. I turning it over to chief meteorologist Dan off. Dan, you, and I are you especially your keeping a very close eye on hurricane Florence. I it it is now on US radar in. You're saying you're starting to see the outer bands hit hit the islands. Yeah. The first little wave came through the the Outer Banks of North Carolina about two hours ago. But now the bigger outer ban the one that's more intense. Probably getting winds gusting close to hurricane force there. Around the Beaufort area and around Cape Hatteras and is edging closer to Wilmington, and that's the expected landfall sometime shortly after midnight tonight packing winds right now one hundred ten miles per hour. Remember yesterday and the day before wind was up to one forty one forty five. So getting a little bit of some sheer or some southwesterly winds coming in on the southerly side of this storm that's kind of a weakened that a little bit. But what it has done as its Winfield has expanded over the past twenty four to thirty six hours. Hurricane. Force winds stretching out as far as eighty miles from the center that's a big storm. Tropical storm force winds in excess of thirty nine miles per hour. Inex- about two hundred miles away from the center landfall again after midnight and is moving northwest at about twelve miles per hour. So it has slowed down, and again, it's we've moving ashore and in creeping along into South Carolina over the next two days

The hurricane could be the most powerful to hit North Carolina in decade CBS news update, I'm Deborah Rodriguez. CBS news time five thirty to stay in Google is facing off against French regulators in the e us highest court today at issue a twenty fourteen ruling by the court that European consumers can force search engines to remove links from their search results that infringe on people's privacy and French privacy regulators want that ruling to apply not just within Europe. But worldwide for more we're joined live on the KCBS ring central Newsline by political chief technology correspondent Mark Scott who joins us from the European Court of Justice. Thanks for joining us this morning in Mark in reading about this. There's something called the right to be forgotten. What is that? Yeah. It's one of those things where it sounds great. But what does it mean? So basically, it means that if I am someone who me. Proudest of your photo from college. Or maybe you know, things that the the is I here in Europe can right now asked Google to remove those links from anywhere in the results. So for example, you if you're searching for me. Everything was on our show up and the case this morning here in Luxembourg is focusing on that right apply. Silly to people here within Europe or should it be envied across? Thing in the US the real challenge in here. Of course is not just whether this regulation itself is right wrong or somewhere in between. But whether Google and other data intensive companies need to comply worldwide with some local or regional regulation. Exactly it comes to the question of who regulates the internet. You know, sounds like a stupid question. Good. You know, we now have a digital ecosystem economy this globe. The problem is we don't have rules that do the same. So say the US rules, just US the French francs. And so the European I try to do it extends their rights and that perception, and how of how the internet should be regulated to everyone in the world is that even possible. I mean, the web is so massive, and I don't ever recall ever hearing of any panels being convened of world leaders to try and sort out web rules. So is it even possible? I mean from a technical perspective anything's possible Kuku has the resources to do. It's a question of is it, right? Is it feasible and cranky who has the right to do this. And then he would say. Why why why should say congress be able to do the same thing, I'm living Brazil, and this is sort of the the question is can the tend to take up a lot of time over the next couple of years. Wake of what happened recently in Facebook. How do you create a global set of rules that are equitable, and that can be applied say if I'm based in San Francisco on based in Seoul curious for your thought on Google's position here. Here's here's a company that has gone along with rules in China that are very restrictive regarding data storage, and that sort of thing, and yet doesn't want necessarily to go along with the French rules. So I mean is been crying in the best way. So at the moment it restricts what can be accessed within Europe. If I to be taking off sessions say in France right now, they can find with that what they don't say is allowed us to do the same thing over the worldwide because Google dotcom com, etc. And so we comes down to you know, is it a question of do people have a legitimate rights to privacy. No matter what the world or do. People. Also have the same rights to access that information. So it's a question of freedom of speech, but she's a right to privacy. And frankly, those through rights difficult to to decide which one comes for, and obviously this is a question that goes beyond Google. So who else is showing up so to speak today to argue with or on behalf of Google? So we have Microsoft. Yeah. We might ultra about paying. Walking success, Michael here because changing a variety of freedom of speech organizations. Journalists organizations even some countries here, even you showed up all you fucking both of them. Know applying rule worldwide route will be to fall, but there are some country. The French government have come and said, well, look, you know, this is a right that applies in folks. And therefore, we have diligent right to say that he should apply worldwide who has the final word on this. Mark. I mean, that's a good question. I mean, so I'm here at the court of Justice here, and what's your highest court? They will make a final ruling sometime next year letting the first half of next year, and they could force to do this. It comes to Question Nos. Know, quote, say on the west coast in New York, I could also make a legitimate. I have a question could not do this. So what I see happening for UPS Justice may favor a the application of this right globally. But then other courts taking the United States will probably come out and say, well, no that's a first amendment issue. We do not want you could go to do that. And then the search engine is going to be stuck in the middle. Mark. Thanks for the time this morning that is Mark Scott. He has Politico's chief technology correspondent joining us today as Google will be in court at the European Court of Justice. This battle over whether European regulations can be imposed worldwide.
