"Of Colorado okay Mike Rosen back with you in for Mandy I'll be here tomorrow as well and then Mandy will be back on Monday alright let's change gears and maybe even lighten up a little bit let's talk about baseball this hour and not just baseball hockey basketball and football as well as we gradually transition from the corona locked down to social and economic renewal people are are itching to get their wives back on that subject of virtue signaling commentator recently remarked that baseball seemed trivial in the face of all the sickness and death from this pandemic not minimizing the concerned about sickness and death I beg to differ about the triviality of baseball and other sports certainly everyone of them now more than one hundred thousand covert nineteen fatalities in this country is a personal tragedy to the friends and the families affected and the rest of the nation deeply sympathizes but that doesn't justify a perpetual state of national mourning or confinement at some point life must go on historically major and minor league baseball continued during the Great Depression of the nineteen thirties and continued during the second World War thank you it's played little league baseball shortly after nine eleven baseball resumed with proper precautions it's about time now for baseball to resume and no baseball isn't trivial it's a unique part of our culture and serves as recreation and entertainment for many millions along with other sports along with T. V. reading music hiking biking fishing and all the trivial things to use that term that we do when we're not working as part of our lives is part of the balance of life Major League Baseball has proposed protocols for the resumption of play as the virus begins to recede some of those protocols and restrictions include locker room restrictions such as no showers and players arriving at the ballpark already in uniform team personnel will be prohibited from eating at restaurants on road trips mascots like the Rockies Dinger would be banned from the playing field masks must be worn in the dugout and the phone to the bullpen when you're calling for a relief pitcher will be disinfected after each use social distancing bus beat maintain wall standing for the star spangled banner players and coaches shall not touch their face while giving signs and pictures may not lick their fingers there will be no pre game exchange of lineup cards between opposing managers at home plate celebratory high fives fist bumps and hugging will not be permitted that presumably trample water barrel Dow sings after game winning walk off your no hitters will also be disallowed and spitting is outlawed now I'm gonna have some fun with his friends I get to the next level of this discussion and I'm certainly inviting your phone calls at three oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five that's three oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five so what follows now is kind of tongue in cheek and a little later on I'll I want to get to the just the differences between the players union and the owners regarding the resumption of Major League Baseball but in any event with my tongue firmly in my cheek some restrictions are understandable in this current environment and the adoption of these restrictions and new protocols for Major League Baseball is subject to negotiation with the players union which will likely go along with most but may balk at the prohibition of spitting which is a time under central baseball practice maybe maybe under certain conditions the players will settle for a designated Spader S. rhymes with something else with these changes to the game and no fans in the stands this will be strikingly different from the American pastime as we've known it while it'll be well worth it to get the game back I can envision some difficulties in unintended consequences and feel free to call in and add to my list for example one protocol calls for separation between fielders and base runners between pitches well with the six foot distancing rolling affect baserunners leading off first base will be sitting ducks for pick ups they've got to be six feet off the bag that's not gonna work symbolically thrilling pregame precision fly or reserve F. sixteens in tight formation we'll have to maintain at least six feet of separation between wingtips the spectacle of a manager and you've seen this many times before charging out of the dugout after disputed call to get in the umpire's face attempting to kick dirt on his pants and a screaming unintelligible muffled profanities or a face mask will look a little silly from six feet away we'll also have the futility of fifty players on the field in one of those bench emptying brew ha ha the sort of baseball fights practicing social distancing I mean they'll be out on the field but they won't even be close close enough to dance with her hug somebody from the other team very similar social distancing problems with other sports with basketball with hockey with football when they return to basketball for example jump balls are out as our screens in pics and dunking will be impossible from six feet away with a defender planted in the paint between the darker in the basket all will see or three pointers in undefended long rebounds in hockey faceoffs will be a stretch body checking will be outlawed they'll be no tip ins are rebounds at the edge of the crease in a fist fight could go a full ten rounds with social distancing officials unable to jump in to break it up social distancing would make football completely problematic given all the troubles for example the Broncos have had with their offensive line unable to adequately protect the quarterback just imagine the holes that'd be open with six foot gaps between the center guards and tackles on the other hand Jerod Boles couldn't get close enough to draw flak for holding a pass rusher defensive backs would have a hard time breaking up passes six feet from a receiver field goals would be difficult with place kicker six feet from holders then again linebackers or any defensive player for that matter wouldn't be allowed to tackle anyone this too would change the game as we've known if we could only prohibit the covert nineteen virus from getting within six feet of a person but I don't know how to do that all right so not not have a little fun with the those absurd applications of social distancing rules but you get the point if you've got some other humorous restrictions that would follow the protocols of baseball suggesting or basketball or football or hockey feel free to call in three oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five R. telephone number on a more serious note that we're not going to get baseball restarted unless there's an agreement between the players their union and the owners about how long the season will be here under what circumstances the post season will take place and what will that look like and most importantly to the players how much money they're going to get paid think of a player with a thirty million dollar annual contract how much money will you get well that'll depend on but the season will look like and one and difficult to hurdle obstacle is the owners sense that the revenues that the teams are going to have this year even if they do resume play are going to be far lower than they would otherwise be the the the the revenues from the broadcast rights local TV and radio national games World Series in a shorter season the media vehicles are not going to pay as much for half a season as they would four hundred sixty two game season advertisers aren't going to be funneling the I should say finally aren't going to be ending up as much revenue for a half this season as they would for a whole season that's why the owners revenues are going to be down in addition to that if the stands are completely empty or is this season season progresses if there are only three quarters empty or half empty whatever that is there's gonna be a lot less revenue from ticket sales from beer sales from hot dog sales from the sports accessory sales the players seem to want a percentage of their original contract based on the number of games they played so if it's normally a hundred sixty two game season and what is ultimately decided is half that in eighty one games season some of them are saying in the union is saying well then we want to be paid fifty percent of what our contract would be wait a second the owners are saying it's it's not just the number of games it's all of the revenue associated with holding those games we're gonna lose out on all the things I mentioned and as a consequence we're going to operate at a huge loss at anyway you look at it with the profitability of each team is going to be probably negative this year it's only a question of how much money the owners are going to lose I don't mean lose as compared to an ordinary season I mean outright lose their payrolls are going to exceed all of their revenues and this is a business now I've heard players argue that you know my career is limited missing an entire season of a let's say it a change your career I will lose out on that income that I can never recover I need to be compensated for that I can understand that viewpoint from a subjective angle but the owners are in a charity if the owners ultimately will survive there may be capital calls for some of the smaller market teams where negative cash flow I could could run into the hundreds of millions of dollars I want to see the game resume I understand the owner's position I understand the player's position and I'm I'm looking for a compromise that's fair for both but I think the players have to understand these are extraordinary circumstances the the normal arrangements they were have just don't just don't apply and these individual teams that they're not they're businesses they're not run as as charities yes the the value of selling a franchise is very lucrative in the over a billion dollars for some teams but cash flow is a problem in the here and now for the ownership of those teams so if you've got a thought on this give us a call three oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five right now the owners are talking about and that what started out as an eighty one game season the players union wants a hundred fourteen game season and the owners have said that debt because this thing is dragging on now they're thinking about only a fifty game season which would result in players receiving about thirty percent of their full salaries based on the owner's offer and the players aren't ready to settle for that job maybe you know more about the the stuff that said happening in the private meetings and and some of the intricacies of the contract and whether or not with him not only the collective bargaining agreement but the individual player contracts what needs to be done so the fans can have some baseball this year while satisfying both the owners and the.

"Producing from his home studio in Connecticut. Taylor Schwenk buster only working from my home studio. He just north of New York City Taylor. I remember early on during the lockdown. That you were every Friday every Saturday. You're taking a long drive. You still doing that now. That we're more than a month into this. The drives have dried up in the last two weekends. We might go for one this coming up next weekend but I'll pull back the curtain a little bit. My wife and I are two consecutive weekends to different people We've done these like zoom murder mystery parties which are a lot of fun. Actually I know that people do them face to face in real life. But we've gotten a little creative here and if you guys are looking to do something like that I would highly recommend it. It's fun to dress up a little bit. You know we did a twenty s era one and a seventy era once we made some different cocktails for it and My first time I wasn't really sure what to expect and I enjoyed it quite a bit. So that's taken over the drives a little bit so that's your recommendation. Mine is digging up. Dandelions which has become an obsession for me. Because you know because I'm home I've made up my mind. I'm going to have the best lawn in my neighborhoods and so over the weekend. My fifteen year old son who certainly has moments. When he doesn't like me very much. This weekend I assign him digging up two hundred dandelions. I dug up that many myself. We are on a hunt for Dandelions at our place. Is that sound. Like Fun Taylor It sounds like a negative fund. But where do you think you are on your quest to have the best looking lawn in the neighborhood like are you like seventy five percent of the way there or where where do you stand? Doodo mobster good start like my lawn is looking really good like I cut around the edges. All the things in the past where I get back from Sunday night baseball and Monday and I'd be tired and I'd see some clipping that I need to do and I wouldn't do it now. Like up at five in the morning just dying for that. I like to get out and do it so trying to make the best of it so you got you know. Murder Mystery Zoom. I've got dandelions it's all what whatever you need to get through it. It's it's dragging on here so you gotta you gotTa take what you can get there. You go well this is contributors week. Folks who helped the sport of baseball not necessarily as players managers are front optics executives. And we'll start with Bob Kendrick. Who is the President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City? In Alaska who he thinks is the greatest player of all time. We'll hear from Sarah Lines as well. I The news and notes retired Los Angeles dodgers broadcaster. Been scully's back home. After falling and being hospitalized the team quoted scully in twitter Saturday saying home and resting comfortably with my wife and we are both eagerly awaiting the time for dodger baseball. I almost can't say without trying to imitate. I'm not GONNA do that. The Cape Cod Baseball League. Renounce Summer League for top college stars cancelled. Its Two thousand twenty season due to the corona virus pandemic. It announced on Friday. The Cleveland Indians will pay regular salaries to full-time employees through June thirtieth. Left-hander was said to have been dubbed the fastest pitcher in baseball history. By Ted Williams died this week in new Britain Connecticut. He was eight years old. Before we get to Sarah into Bob. Don't forget about Jalen and Jacoby. The after show the guys are recapping episodes. Three and four of the last dance. The shows went up right after the last dance aired. And they'll continue doing that throughout the run of this Docu series Jalen and Jacoby. The after show is brought to you by State Farm and at and T. You can find it wherever you get your podcasts numbers game. They're laying say reporter producer for MLB DOT COM. And Sarah in a moment. We're GONNA be talking about Kendrick head of the Negro Leagues Museum in Baseball Museum in Kansas City. And so Sarah what I sent you an email over the weekend saying you know what? I'm curious about your perspective on who or the Five Best Negro Leagues players of all time. How would you rank them? Starting with number five. Yeah so I love looking into this and I love thinking about this because you know this is an area of baseball history that we don't know quite as much about and I know I personally have learned a lot about maybe over the last ten years or so but I feel like I'm always learning more and more about these players in reading more of these legends so it was a great great opportunity to dig back into this and I love it so my number five is Oscar Charleston. And you know they're so many great comparisons when you read about these players. Everybody is compared to some absolute legend and the one that I have for Oscar Charleston. Buck O'Neil said. He was the greatest player that he ever saw. He was compared to tie Cobb interest speaker and he was considered the Negro National in Israel. I real- superstar back in nineteen twenty and he could hit close to four hundred played a great outfield. Iran. Base while and Satchel page side. You have to see him to believe him anyway. And so the hall of fame in Nineteen Seventy six and of course buck. O'neil was a longtime first baseman and a manager and he we scout. He's got it later in life. There's actually an award at the hall of fame given every year now That's name for Buck O'Neil. Whose NUMBER FOUR. So number four. I've got cool Papa. Bell you know legendary speed one story. I saw said that he went from home home. In twelve seconds which is really fun. You know we can actually contextualized that now whether or not it's true we don't know but you know the fact that people thought that was true. I mean that's right there with the fastest home-to-home times who see on home runs you know now a stack cast so and he taught. Lubar have a steel basis. I think that almost tells you all you need to know in humans. The Hall of fame in Nineteen Seventy four and cool papa. Bell of course. The great story about said tongue in cheek was that he was so fast when he turned off the lights which he'd be back under the covers before the late actually went out. Who's number three so number? Three is Buck Leonard. He was the homestead grays first base for seventeen years which made him the longest tenure player with one team in the entire history of the Negro Leagues. He Josh Gibson were outstanding. Duo led the team to nine Negro nationally pennants and five world series. Aaron says and he went to the hall of fame in Nineteen. Seventy two number. Two number. Two is Josh Gibson so dizzy Dean called him. One of the best that he ever saw it for a ton of power. The legends are absolutely incredible. They talk about five hundred foot home runs and maybe he hit nine. Hundred home runs in his career. We don't know you know for sure. But he certainly was. You know an absolute outstanding catcher an outstanding a power hitter and he wins the hall of fame in Nineteen. Seventy two as well number one all time. So Am I number one. I have sexual page. I'm not sure that he was the absolute best player in the history of the Negro Leagues. But I think he is certainly the most famous on so I was sort of going back and forth between him Gibson whose number one number two I ended up with Satchel page number one. He was the first to go into the hall of fame. He's the most associated with the league. I think a lot of ways and you know a lot of people thought he was the greatest pitcher whoever left and I want to ask you about the greatest player of all time in any league for me. It's always been willie. Mays who to me? He did so many things well he was fast. He could play defense. He hit for power. He won the Most Valuable Player in the National League. A couple of times Led the League in a home runs multiple times. He won a batting title in One Thousand. Nine hundred fifty four. It's six hundred. Sixty homers had three thousand two hundred eighty three hits scored over two thousand runs in his career. That would be my pick for greatest player of all time. How about you? Yeah I mean I you. I have talked about many times on here. My mother grew up a huge giant. Stand a huge giant fan. Let's hear about Willie mays since I you know basically couldn't talk yet and I've always always default to him but I will say that you know as I learn more and more about these Negro Leagues players. I mean I do think that you know there are so many players who you hear that you know could have been the greatest of all time or would have been considered the greatest of all time in major league history. Had they gotten the chance to play their gotten a chance to play. They're in their prime. So I think that there certainly are You know other considerations to take but I always go slowly mace yes. Some people would argue Babe Ruth. Some people would argue Henry Aaron. I'm going to put that question of Bob in just a moment. Sarah thanks for doing this. Always great to talk with you. Basis for having me investor. Kendrick is President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City. Missouri and Bob. Thanks for joining us. Sit at time when everybody's looking for distraction and I know you've got a lot of stories always exciting for me because I'm looking forward to those same distracting about these baseball and baseball history because the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum like everybody else has been so greatly impacted by the health situation that we're currently.

N. apps begin baseball the Washington nationals GM Mike Rizzo expects there will be a twenty twenty major league season in a conference call Friday he said he's optimistic as is the commissioner that they will have baseball in twenty twenty and other developments related to the pandemic the Cape Cod league has announced cancellation of a twenty twenty season did over the summer X. games in Minneapolis UFC though returns may night pay per view in Florida more cards plan Dana white telling R. E. Brett Okamoto and this is what he had to major key takeaways from our conversation with Dana white on Friday first and foremost is that you see two forty nine is happening when he started talking to me about this event last week it was met with a lot of skepticism unless something goes drastically changes between now and may ninth this fight this sporting event is going to happen with no live audience another thing that stuck out to me is that it's not just this one is may ninth is may thirteenth to may sixteenth today no I want to put on three events in a span of eight weeks and I think the reason you want to do that is a of course he sees the opportunity to capture the attention of the sports world be any sort of the only show in town but he also owes his fighters fight they put time and effort into preparing themselves for a fight and they want to compete and they want to get paid may ninth may thirteenth may the sixteenth in Jacksonville Florida that's the take away the first court of course as you mention you have C. two forty nine for safety selected in the first thirteen picks in the second row led off by a former member of the Crimson Tide with the thirty six pick in the twenty twenty NFL draft the New York Giants select Xavier McKinney defensive back Alabama many thought he was a first round.

"Is available every day for free well we have a lot of prominent people on this show especially over these last few weeks senators members of Congress doctors we have the secretary of state earlier I'm not sure I've been more excited for an interview however then I am right now because I grew up a huge sports fan I still am I grew up aspiring to be a sports broadcaster student broadcaster at northwestern Cape Cod baseball league if you're a regular listener you know all that someone that I've watched it feels like for my whole life is re status he's the host of ESPN's college game day a staple of every Saturday in the fall he does play by play for them he's all over the place and he joins me now on the guy Benson show Reese it is such a pleasure having you thanks for doing this hello thank you brand me I appreciated I I used to take exception when people would say Hey I grew up watching you until I realized my kids are twenty two and nineteen yeah I guess so thank you for having me on it to pleasure you had you had an amazing career at the worldwide leader and I have to say one of the highlights for me because I wasn't a college football fan at all growing up because I grew up in the New York area it's a very pro sports center town and I went to northwestern for the academics and I actually had to ask someone when I got there what is the big ten what does that even mean right now I'm just fanatical I have my season tickets and one of the coolest memories that I have related to college football but not physically in the stadium was when game day came to Evans and it was still the Fowler era I want to say look at twenty thirteen and is out on the lake and it was just fantastic and what a what a great job it must be the one that you have to take that crew and have all that fun with all those fans every week and sometimes I'm a little jealous I'll be honest yeah I think it's the best job in television and I consider myself to be an ambitious person but people ask me a lot of times well what else would you like to do and I take the risk of sounding complacent which I don't think I have always want always want to make you feel better I'm doing what I love I mean that you know is an adrenaline rush you to support that I'm passionate about and that I cared about that that was a five year old boy cared about deeply and so to be able to do that show every week it's a it's a thrill in those environments like you mentioned particularly places even though you're right what's in at the Northwestern show places like northwestern that don't get to show it off in bed it is special when they are on the national stage in competing conference championships and so forth that's when it's really electric and it's really hard to duplicate that feeling and and television right William blasting thankful to be able to do it totally because sometimes you'll be like okay here's the announcement they're going to Columbus there's a shock they're going to lose said Gee what a thrill it must be for those fans but you're right when you're not used to the crew rolling in there is something I think electric is the right word so my instinct as a northwestern fan is to ask you about the new offensive coordinator that we have from Boston College the fifth year quarterback the senior transfer from I. you but I think the audience more broadly maybe isn't interested in the ins and outs of northwestern football and what Pat fitzgerald has cooking so let's let's start with this broader question I saw a quote I think this TMZ actually from your colleague Kirk Herbstreit who's just fantastic just like maybe a week or two ago saying he would be surprised to see college football or even NFL football happening in the fall then dabble Sweeney the Clemson coach the other day said no and he thinks it's going to move forward what are you hearing agrees about what's in the works some of the obstacles are people optimistic or not it depends like guy cultures are optimistic that their nature and athletic directors that I've spoken to in conference commissioners are making contingency plans they are hopeful but you know they are making a judgment yet but it would be irresponsible not to you know not the planet some weight for a reduced season or you know perhaps a season that doesn't occur so I think it really depends on who you're talking to and what what will Kleiner worked here in a white Avenue there in as a pertains to college sports you know cultures sort of want to solve it like they would solve you know don't blitz and you can't that's not really how this is how this is gonna be done I really think that the good news of it it it I'm hopeful and optimistic will play to put football coaches and broadcasters won't make this decision and that that it should be interesting because of that but I think it's okay for you know dabble in ICU days before those comments became public had about a twenty minute conversation I joke I thought he was trying out some of the wind done because we were talking like you know we stormed the beaches of Normandy we can do this you know so and I admire his optimism and I don't think there's anything wrong with that the P. what people have to realize is that dabbled Brian Carroll your B. or anyone else we don't have we don't have IT installments on what this disease will be played that'll be determined by the medical professionals and government officials to decide you know what to procreate from the public health standpoint both from the obvious threat the virus in the the other things are attached to that with the impact on the economy it's important that you know well well beyond my curfew in a recent think about let's say hypothetically they find out a way and puzzle through it to have a product on the field with TV cameras because we are hearing all these reports that MLB NHL playoffs that kind of stuff by the fall let's say they have something figured out it's just so weird to think about games that matter being played potentially with no one in the stands like they could pipe in the fight song or something on the PA system after touchdowns no one cheering I mean your show obviously could be significantly impacted because part of the energy part of the excitement is that those huge throngs of people behind you with all the signs that might not be safe talk about the contingency planning on the broadcast side of this I don't currently I to be honest I don't think we've reached that point yet we're sort of taking it day by day you know the next thing on my agenda is to get a cold draft and we're having to make some alterations to that but in terms of you know game day and what that might look like or what that might entail we did we just simply don't know the only thing I can assure you is that with the rigorous approach that the company as a whole was taken this week wouldn't do anything that would put people in harm's way so you know obviously from a selfish standpoint I don't want the show to miss miss a single week or single opportunity but if that's what needs to happen and it will just move on yeah but hopefully with the amount of time we have between now and then it won't be it won't be necessary here we'll we'll still have a show particularly if their games but you know I don't know what exactly that would look like I don't think anyone does yet you have to protect one thing it would bring up I don't know it would be your chat tonight will be so weird to have games in empty stadiums is our call to mind the old Kenny mainline sports center when you take games aren't played on paper their plate inside of television sets you know and that's you know that's sort of where we would be would be made for TV event I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily but then you also have to have to look at the situation it's Thursday the interpolated about was canceled I was on the air and at that time prior to it being canceled the decision is made to play in virtually empty arenas with only essential personnel being involved then came the news that in the colonial athletic association that had to turn the game and the crystal in that game had had tested positive for the coronavirus so you know now he wasn't exhibiting symptoms so there was really no way to know at that point but he's essential personnel so how do you how do you deal with situations like that right questions to be answered and is hoping that we can get a little farther down the line to make it feasible to play can I get to the NFL draft in just a second but since you mentioned the NC double a tournament it seemed like that was kind of an ad hoc Masih decision making process where there wasn't a directive necessarily coming from the government or health experts you had the NC double a weighing their options and then you had major schools making determinations like Duke announcing we're not going to do this and that basic right sunk the whole thing so you could even potentially have the NC double a come up with a decision and if there are key schools not buying in right it becomes kind of sticky said I don't think it's even a little bit different in football and basketball and I think you know Duke's concern as I understand it was in the immediate in the moment with the ACC tournament Kansas also but I don't think they ever simple play needs to double a tournament they were just concerned in the mall but put their conference tournament and one thing led to the next day as you as you alluded to I think the difference is is they were going to NC double a directed event took Paul let's run a little bit differently certainly it's under the jurisdiction of the NC double a but that would be the conference commissioners especially in the current deciding the championship with the college football playoff so I think you might get a little bit more unified response by having those five conference commissioners come together to decide what what needs to be done for you so you mentioned that the task at hand for you right in front of you at least as NFL draft coverage going to be at the helm for A. B. C. and a lot of their coverage and this is coming up awfully soon what can you tell us I'm sure there are still things being worked out but logistically again some question marks here are some some worries it's a huge of fan I think there's a massive hunger from sports fans for something to watch that is new talk about that process behind the scenes to the extent that you feel comfortable I think that you guys that we're just trying to do it as safely as possible for all of our people that that's not just on here people that you know people in in the studio and so forth and I went in on Saturday to do a basketball hall of fame show and it was very skeleton crew and it you know they're really taking great care to make sure that no one was put in harm's way it will try to do the same thing with the draft will be technological challenge with the number of people in different places only test you know with the with the draft because of the number of different speeds that you needn't people being all over the place and it will be an even greater challenge here but we've got a great crew committed and ready to do it and they're still you know they're still working on some of those logistics candidly and how exactly it'll work but I I think you're right I think fans are are very eager to see that and I also think the NFL and all of the networks had really taken great care to try to do it as safely as possible action so I was in high school as a junior in high school when nine eleven happened in the greater New York area my father worked in lower Manhattan and it was traumatic for all the reasons that we all remember one of the biggest bright spots.

"Arizona's news station. KTAR news on ninety two three FM. Get some perspective. Bruce St James and Pamela Hughes. I want to start to sit in and I mentioned to you off the air panel. I wanna I wanna mention something because it plays into kind of meeting of our faith in humanity. Restore some of you may be familiar with the term Ryan house here in the valley. It is a place for families with kids who have serious life threatening. And in some cases. Unrecoverable illnesses and diseases as they navigate through this. It is unique here tied in with some of the children's hospitals around here, and they do amazing work. Ryan. The young man who I met. Passed away over the weekend Ryan of Ryan's house passed away his mom announced it on on Facebook. And. Seventeen year old boy who. Two thousand four they started Ryan tells when they had the need because of his unique medical challenges and the amount of lives that they've touched. In the meantime, and the goodness safe brought to the world and the legacy. And honoring their son the way they do with the work that the Ryan house will continue to do. But I'm sorry to be the one to have to tell people. I think a lot of people know about Ryan. How's the great work? They do in just a sad time for the for the Carter family. Yeah. And we talk about losing loved ones. And that's a little bit about what the faith in humanity is today. But there's a very positive. No that will end on here. I I gotta take you guys back to January eighth two thousand eleven and you would know that because of the Spurs shooting at the Safeway. Automatic weapon. Yeah. Cavallo? Shot. Like, many people are shot. It was a Saturday morning. January eighth two thousand eleven I remember exactly where I was. When I got the call that come into the station and head on down to Tucson you. I and some of our colleagues here at the station spent several days down in Tucson. And I distinctly remember as we're wrapping up our coverage. I want to say it was like Sunday the Sunday's coverage. Pat McMahon had asked me in five years five years from now. What about this? Are you going to remember most? Okay. And I remember telling him Christina Taylor green. This was the young lady and by young I mean, eight say really young elementary who was shot and killed in that Safeway parking lot in Tucson. And I remember going to the school where all of her classmates had had covered the the fence. And you know, we now have. Having a nine year old myself it strikes home. But this little girl is still surprising her parents today. Mom and dad got a voicemail recently. They actually had to listen to it twice because it was the hall of fame award winning baseball writer, Peter gammons, and he was going to be inducted into the Cape Cod. Baseball leagues hall of fame and a war. That is going to be named after him was called the Peter gammons award for excellence legendary baseball writer.

And sometimes you bring in as we did last week. We brought in Tiffany from kiss one of the other FM radio stations. One of the other radio stations here at the iheart written a mega mega radio center. Yeah. We're. Broadcasting now not from soldiers field road. But from. Medford, Massachusetts, and is lovely lovely facility. Well, anyway, let me first of all begin tonight by telling you, I'm gonna make a big announcement in just a few minutes dealing with an upcoming nightside trip haven't done this for couple of years. I'll explain that in a moment. But first of all let me thank Jordan rich who sat infamy on Friday night. Jordan is just one of my best friends. Great guy. No, all of you, love them. What is not to love about Jordan, rich? He's bright. He is conversational. He's just a great human being. And I know all of you have listened to him for many many years in the overnights he has kind of stepped back from the overnights, but he'll be filling in along with marisha Franco, and also I think Morgan white will occasionally fill in as well. So thanks to all of them for giving me the opportunity to take a few nights off along the way. Now, let me explain what I was doing on Friday night and Saturday, I had the great honor of participating and attending independent on Friday night. And then in event on Saturday morning. For the Cape Cod. Baseball league as I think all of you know, the Cape Cod. Baseball league is a summer baseball league in which the best college baseball players from around the country compete for various towns down in the Cape. If you'd know nothing about the Cape Cod. "The press box is the media podcast. We are not allowed to sell fake news, t shirts at the Newseum or go to the Newseum or speak the Newseum 's name in any context, positive or negative. Let us never speak of it. Again. We are Bryan Curtis, David shoemaker of the ringer, and as you peruse the ringer this week, please check out Jordan cons piece on how country music stardom in Nashville has changed phantasm Meghan Schuster on the coverage of the urban Meyer scandal and Kevin Clark on the birth of the wildcat offense in the NFL if you want to check out our stuff, David wrote about the end of wrestling's Monday night wars last week, and I wrote about the Cape Cod baseball league, which now doubles as a finishing school for young play by play announcers. But David, I've got three big topics for you today. First Trump versus LeBron could anything be more we'll house than this? We break down Friday nights, tweet storms. Second, we talk about the case of urban Meyer Ohio State coach, particularly how it's being prosecuted and defended in the media and fine. Sara Jong got hired by the New York Times and then bad faith actors dredged up, hurled tweets. What in the name of James Gunn is going on here plus always are overworked. Twitter joke of the week. Let's start with LeBron Trump David. You've probably asked yourself this question win. Will there be a political cause in this country? The brings together John casick, Karl Anthony towns and former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. We finally have it. Because Donald Trump was watching CNN Friday night doing his Trump after dark bit with a network. He says, is full of fake news when he stumbled onto this Don lemon interview with LeBron James. Let's listen. Do you think he uses black athletes as a scapegoat at times at time and more often than than not? I believe he uses anything that's popular. The Charleston negate people from thinking about the positive things that they can actually be doing and try to just get our minds to not be sharp as possible. Right? Dan, just a either from nailing from football players, kneeling look at copper, Nick, who was a protests something he believed in and he did it in the most calm fashioned way possible where respectful had it did all due diligence. He was knowledgeable about it and everyone knew why he did it. You look at all the NFL players that still nil anything's nature. Look as staff. You look at an Omar. I shall end you look at all these instances why he's trying to divide our sport. But at the end of the day, sport is the reason why we all come together. You'll know David, how measured James wasn't that interview compared with the Trump tweet that followed. And I quote LeBron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television Don lemon. He made LeBron Looksmart which isn't easy to do. I like Mike exclamation point. Alec five things I wanna talk to you about what this plea is go through him. I don't even. I don't even know where to start and show. Let's start with racism. That's where I wanna start, because. Okay. Remember. Djamil right into the pool. Remember what you Mel hill was going on a limb by calling Trump a white supremacist and that even even people who did not vote for Trump, I remember coming up to me and saying, well, you now I don't know. I just I, I agree. I, I'm on Jamal's Cybernet. She may have gone too far here. Did she? Did she go too far? Did she really go too far? I like the solicitor Brian tweet. Okay. Reporters who've been holding out on calling the president of bigot you're now freed up. What do you, what do you make of that. I don't know. I mean, I I, I'm tempted to, I'm Tim to do agree with that point of view. I don't, but I don't think that it's I, I guess I didn't see. I, I guess this this tweet to me is more if you're of the opinion that that you know he has, you know racism at his core than this is great evidence for that, but I don't know that this was, you know, this is a smoking gun in my mind. It's just so is just such a, it's just so much idiocy, but I don't know that..
