Like she would back in back in those days there was there was this attitude of like I'm GonNa. Just have my fun, and then of course I'm going to get married to a guy you know that was. That was not an uncommon You know sort of EXC. Modality back in those days, or at least it wasn't uncommon here in Colorado where where I the community that I found myself in. That was sort of a thing people. I guess but For me as soon as I finally got it. I was not going back like for me. I was not going. I was never going to go back But for shelley she had started earlier with her with her other relationships with women and stuff, and always dated men, but always kind of had a girlfriend on the side you know. That sort of thing back in the ninety S. Eighty. So. It just wasn't as accepted it back. Then it just it was not. It wasn't cool yet. It wasn't like. It wasn't it wasn't anything it was still very. There was all these reasons to be gay like all these political reasons and social reasons like reactionary reasons like Maybe you mended this to you or it's reaction. Of like not man. For me, it was not that it was like going towards something absolutely going towards something, and then like finally once I got in bed with a woman which was showing I was like. This is what I always suspected I was missing and. That that sort of thumb. that. It was just like A. One hundred percent. Yes, for me like yeah, this is it. It wasn't like. You know because I was. People who were trying to make it about something else and I was like now now it's about it's about naked girl. Yes players that yeah. How were you with the cultural aspects? Did you feel when you walked to ask? Like for me, that was an added bonus like you had this like club. You were suddenly and in the sisterhood, and I loved it, and especially up here because we were you know there was there. Was this really really amazing group of just Hardcore Mountain Lesbians up here. That's suddenly I was cool enough to even just sort of be in that room with them and just revered them. They're just like really amazing. Women too strong, fierce, athletic, bad ass! Mountain women appeared that. Are Ed we're all just friends with each other. Because they all dated each other, it was really incestuous at the time I. missed all that because they were older, but You know it was just a really super cool group to suddenly be accepted into that was also part of the allure of it was was the community also you know? And then I went to a pride like sometimes when I would be dumped and single I I got a puppy like I got this puppy once when shelley hit dumped me, and his name is, Harvey and I loved Him Oh my God I love this. He was a white Chihuahua had for years. But one time like when he was a baby, I went to pride with a best friend Maryann. She see, I ended up in college. Not Wanting to tell me, but she started seeing women again. What is going on with you and she was like okay I'm seeing this girl. And then I went to this lesbian. Party with her and I was totally freaked out and. It. It was a long journey like coming out was just a long journey. There was a long long trajectory of me going my God. Oh my God you know gay people I was just raised on a ranch. You know what I mean so like to to be. To be out to myself was just mortifying mortifying it was it wasn't even. It wasn't. A small thing. "Least there's a there's a bit outside of of their own head. That society wants support. Stamina is willing to accept them and wants to help them through their their trauma I mean I've been I've been impressed by the. The amount of of socialization that has happened in popular culture with the normalization of PTSD for soldiers, understanding that they experience that trauma, and like and embracing that in accepting that for that for people who've been incarcerated in solitary. There's nothing but like stigma and disdain for those people, so not only are they kind of struggling with the loss of dignity, shame that they have internally, but externally as a society. If people are even aware of this at all, their their reaction is usually wind revolt revolted and discussed so the. Kind of shame, just magnesite. From both the external and internal factors. Shame and immoral injury. We've been hearing more and more about moral injury. I think it'd be interesting to talk more about the conditions. What it's like in Solitaire and I know from reading your book that there is variation that it can be really different. In different facilities I was wondering though since the stories in your book are so powerful if you could give just maybe one example of the kinds of conditions that you've learned about through. A bit of a summary of one of stories that you've heard Schorr. Lemme, tell people kind of wet. The big scope isn't. Down I think to Time Fatten story in New York, my client in the lawsuit person I knew quite well and also a place where I got to see personally. What though solitary cells cells look like so as you mentioned? Debbie Solitary look like a lot of different things throughout. Various parts of the country it can be everything from your conception of like Dungeon. There are solitary confinement units in Missouri for example that are dark floors with nothing but a continent in its in the basement. Of of the prison units, there's literally no sunlight there all the way to the facilities that we have here in in Canyon City Colorado, the federal facilities which were purpose built just a couple of decades ago for solitary confinement, so they're shiny, new cinder block buildings with remote control operated doors. And they're. They're the kind of modern manifestation of this form of torture and Between, but the common defining feature guardless of how the solitary cell looks or feels, is the near total deprivation of meaningful human interaction. In, New York what the solitary confinement unit that Tanya. was held in is part of a cookie cutter set of units that York built in the nineteen nineties in response to kind of tough on crime. Push call the shoe. Two hundred is called issue two hundred because there are two hundred. Two hundred people can be held in this unit. Anyone's high and they bill I think. Maybe around a dozen of these shoe to hundreds at various prison facilities Arrived York state on the campus of existing facilities. Tanya was incarcerated at in Bedford Correctional Facility, which is just about an hour and half train ride north from new. York, city. And Her shoe two hundred unit. If you're walking down the hallway of these units, you would see a wide cell door. With a very small six by three window in a solid steel door, thick, reinforced solid steel, and there's a food tray. Probably about waist height of that of that cell, and then you open up the cell and you step inside and New York. Cells are bit bigger than your average halter. Confinement cell and I'll say more about that in second, but they have a bunk that's built into the wall. They have a toilet and sink combination that's built into the corner, so the the where the water tank of normal household toilet would be where the sink is. The toilet is beneath sad, and there is a small desk in the back of the cell. There's another door you open that door. It would take you out to a small country cage that on the. Exterior side of it has thick wire Mesh that leads to the outside, so it's like a little a patio that's about a quarter of the size of the solitary so. So on average day Tania. If she's in that cell, she would be allowed Three books I believe at that time a news a daily newspaper if another prisoner had taken it. And that is it. NO RADIO NO TV no access to any other type of stimulation. She would have the lights. Go on an herself probably around five in the morning. Her first food tray would come up around six o'clock. And you're getting food that is served by correctional officers who opened that food trade or end just pushed the food tray through at Nance, slamming close and one feature solitary confinement that is nearly universally is certainly a part of Chinese experiences. Is that correctional officers use food or the deprivation of food? To taunt prisoners to retaliate against damn sometimes, they're just lazy. So whether that food comes through the the trade or at six, whether even trust that hasn't been like spit on or tampered with is something that's constantly in your mind when you're when you're getting that food trae. For the next five six hours. You're just alone. With nothing to do, and and no one to talk to. Maybe just a few books are or a newspaper to occupy your time and in your mind. than around two PM in tiniest case she would get her one hour of recreation, and what that means in New York. Is that the cell door that faces the Patio? The recreation cage would pop open. It's automatically operated by guards in control. Booze would pop open and she could go outside for an hour to be in a smaller concrete cage that has some exposure to fresh air, and whether it's one hundred and twenty degrees, or whether it's negative, ten degrees, which in upstate. New York is is actually real saying in the wintertime. Doesn't change the clothing that she gets. At all, and there's nothing to do in this box. There's not a pull up bar. There should not allow basketball. There's there's literally nothing to do in the box except get some exposure to fresh air in depending on the time of day in the time of year. What cell you're in maybe some sunlight. Through through that metal great and then after an hour. You are over the Intercom you get buzz to come back in as you walk from your patio back into the small cell, and the door closes at locks behind you and.

"Here at Sam's garage. I'm Sam with Ms Emma Davi. We're talking to Richard about a fifty nine rambler retired. Let me let me make it a little easier for you on that generator. Polarity of the battery generator an alternator together. There's another easy way to do it. A friend of mine just texted me this and he thought he does it all the time. The key off the with the key often the engine not running a wire and go from the Amish terminal on the generator battery positive. I'd go to the battery positive. I put an alligator clip on that. Take you just touched the amateur channel on the generator there might be a small arc. That's why you want to do it at the generate or not at the top of the battery and then that will polarize it and if it doesn't run then you gotta probably got a bad regulator. Okay I I would be. That'd be support. I guess yeah just another way to match the polarity of the two. But you know what I was GonNa say we got to the top the break one of the things that I hate it on that. Rambo was changing the oil filter in front of the engine upside down on this areas filter. Oh you don't have. The Dow is an option by the way I do believe but that was an option. It was mounted on a steel plate on the driver's side of the valve cover at the very front of the head and it had a little copper tube that went down into the oil gallery and it had a spin on filter. And you had to hold the not underneath or when you turn the filter. If it was stuck it would twist the copper line. You break the line. You don't have an oil filter on. There wasn't oil filter option on that car. That was a spin on felted. That's pretty interesting. You don't have one but it's a great little card front seats recline all the way. You could sleep in that car. O out where where where Putting the headline ran right now boy. That's been a a job and a half but Where we got that done yesterday. It looks pretty decent for a bunch of Hicks like putting them in but the bows the bow that slide through the little loops that are stitched into the head last. Yes we had to pull them down and split them so you could pull it tight OOFTA. Anyway it's a job. Yeah but you'll however windows. Yes it's been fun but we're a wave The owners where it's a birthday present and the owners wanted three months early so We're we're pushing for pushing ourselves pretty hard on this thing but we're gonNA have done for having to the person that before you give it to the person's going to drive it. Make sure in the front and you check the check. The trend they had trauma with the break in the wheel would fall off those. I did a lot of those so take a look at those trying to make sure they're tight. Oh well now. We went through the whole front. And that's all for Hindu. We were able to put new yards for all of that Oakland. He wants to turn key. And that's what we're working for. Let me know when you're finished? I got a couple of cars shipped here. You can finish Palm House. That could've sixty six. We gotta sixty six or three ninety automatic that we got big plans for the next one. Okay Oh Listen. Thanks for the call. Good luck with your project and we'll talk to you again longtime listener. Sam Thank you very much. Thank you. Bye-bye Cedeno audio man knew about all those things he didn't that oil felt that was an option back. Then did you know that I knew options and stuff? I just didn't know when you know. Even your Chevrolet Stove Bolt Sixes. Some of them didn't have oil filters and and some of them had this big canister fell to that they put you bolts through the manifold intake. Manifold was bolted to the side of the intake mantle and then the line went down and picked up a fitting on the oil gallery. It Fed the filter in and you know back in the day. They used to use rolls of toilet paper in there for filter. That's crazy wondering why you'll record your cars every week. Well Oil was good for a thousand miles. You really and truly people don't understand if they haven't been around a long time like I have. Your maintenance was thousand miles. You got an oil change and if you had a healthy a change that and then you know we had points in the points rubbing block used to wear the points would burn when the rub in block wear and the points would get closer the dwell would change and that also affected the timing which is why when you did a tune up. The carranza much better had retarded time in one plugs. Bad caught bad spot. She put a point set of points in the condenser in it. Kaplan and or if it needed a new set of plugs set the time and right make sure vacuum incentive look advance worked just a carburetor usually one screw one vacuum line and away. You'd start to pull these out and month by month. The flavor would open up a little bit of the suite would go a little bit of the. Tang might but they were still going to be very flavorful. They have some of the most complex flavors of any apples. You'll ever have. They said culinary have some of the most complex flavors you'll ever have anything. The Colorado Orange was popular in the late eighteen hundreds but around the nineteen forties. It started to disappear the biggest thing it had going against. It was a yellowish wish. Orangish glow apple at a time when America was going into monoculture where shiny red apples were considered the only apples worth buying. It wasn't because it was bad quality or didn't grow. Well it lost out like so many of the thousands and thousands of apple varieties that have gone extinct. It lost out because it wasn't the Shiny Red Apple Shanta Shanta Myer says locals around Canyon City Colorado cherished the Orange Apple. They knew it was a really high quality apple winner Apple. Good Keeping Apple in in Canyon. City of the memory of it was kept alive for a long time in the old timers. Like Oh yeah. I used to have a tree at died but we kept thinking there was still going to be one around we. We felt like we could still find one and so he and his wife. ADDIE started combing the state two years ago. We were in Canyon City in this orchard in December. And this person Mr Diana said. Hey I've got a tree also and he took us to a tree my wife. Addie and I looked at it and Lo and behold on the ground underneath the tree and the duff there were. These orange blushed apples apples and then on the tree. There were some of the apple still hanging and it had that really good sub acid flavorful. Taste that you'd expect from a winner apple so yeah it was a it was a a big moment for us. But the Shannon Myers have been careful and taking their time. They did cutting edge. DNA testing and compared their find to some archival wax apple full replicas at Colorado State University. They wanted to make sure they'd found the actual orange apple of memory because it's considered extinct. There's probably never in absolute but we've got his close to an absolute as we can between this newest new DNA technology the historical purvey of the orchard itself in and the waxed apple to compare it to. That's an extraordinary amount of information that most people would never be able to have to compare anything and so in a couple of years once the a young trees get going. Keep Your Eyes Open in the produce section for something new and please restrain yourself from asking. Ju- Shanta Meyer about mixing apples apples and oranges. Yeah people when they hear of the Colorado Orange. They definitely wonder what we're talking about. That's for

that's what I'm here to help you cope with a more than likely help your pets cope with living with you let's face it not easy living with people on the phone number here at the pet joke eight seven you I have a nine year old and she's nine years and three months old German shepherd and she's good or she can't control her bladder you have our remaining for that yeah let me ask you a couple of questions first of all the dog is only nine months old online no no nine years yeah nine years reminds when did this problem start also known not six months but she's getting worse now I let me ask you a water okay I'm not taking the water away is not going to resolve the problem another with a dog has been housebroken for pretty much nine years right now all of a sudden they started so for a situation like this to start there has to be something physiologically occasionally could be psychological but it sounds to me after nine years and three months for the doctor let's say he started six months ago for the dog to start having a having that the loss of bladder control I think it's really something you need to have a sit down with your veterinarian about their some amazing things on the market now you know I deal with this all the time people call me up or email me during the week and my dogs losing control or or this and some of the new medications on the market are really beneficial so it's not a matter of cutting back the dog's water because it might be something internally that's creating a situation I with the dark cast appear feels like it has to be so could be a bladder infection kidney problem could be any number of things so I think at this point a trip to the vet is in order and may cost a few Bucks but it's going to save you a lot of carpeting and the door was only nine years old you've got a couple years I had ever made more than a couple years ahead of her so I think at this point I would check that out what I'd like to do is send you I I some kids and pets staining order mover coupon something that at least you can clean up any of the areas where the dog is gone but it's really really important for people to understand the concept that if you have a dog it's getting older you know sometimes they lose a little bit of controlling their bladder just like you know when they can get all that the product on the market a lot of older men use out flomax to help them I'm not go as much at night to help with their prostate there are things on the market that you can do but I think you need to have that conversation with your vet Maria to decide specifically which way to go because I'm sure you love the dog I'm sure the dog loves you and just as as much as a bond issue I'm sure the dogs embarrassed by having the accent as well some of this change the kids and pets staining removed but I definitely want you to have a conversation with your vet because it's definitely something that can be brought under control that help you out a "He'd be playing street hockey constantly tones people drive by in shove. But west never gave up well until one day when somebody car you're going to work because west was a forty three old accountant and he commuted with that guy downtown so west never played in the NHL, but he did hear how gyco proud partner of NHL could save money on car insurance. So he switched and saved and made his other dream come true. Jumping on the bed. No more. Hey, we are back on the patch on let me get right back to the busy phone lines here right now it's Doug in canyon city, Colorado. Hey dog welcome to the show. Thank you very much. Thanks for taking my call. Hey, it's my pleasure. What's up? I've got a three year old lab, and I would say about six or eight months ago, he started digging holes in the lawn. He only digs them on the west side of the house and on the south side of the house. And he last year I had to replace our about this last summer I had replace about three roles Assad. That's how much he dug up in different areas. I listened to. Yeah. It's very easy to resolve. But you need to understand this. You cannot teach dog not to dig. But you can teach him where to dig. So what I'm going to recommend that you do is in the areas where the dogs seems to be digging. I want you to go out to eat at Home Depot. Lowe's. One of those stores by a couple of kiddie pools. They're like ten bucks take the kiddie pools put them in the area where the dog is most apt to dig fill those with some dirt some sand. Whatever you want to put in there, actually, get some of the dog's favorite toys put them in there as well. And I want you to go in there and kind of get down off worse. Make like you're digging. Let the dog see you. What happens if you can change the toys in there every day this way the dog will have his own place to dig. Dogs dig for many, different reasons. Number one when you're anxious number two if there's other animals in your yard, which is a possibility what they can do is dig the put their sent down. So the reason I'm recommending you do what I suggest is. We don't want to stop the dog from digging that's like stopping a human from using your hands. But if we take the dog, and we make the backyard more interesting and giving him places of his own today by putting toys narrow letting him see you in there. He will get the idea, which means that you don't have to buy more Saad, you donkey digging the backyard, it's kind of like a doggy sandbox. I've used this many many different times even with my own dogs. Lots of them came with digging problems rescues and that order resolve t- the fancy a question. Doug. It does. Now one other question. So I put him where I want put the polls were in an area where he can dig not on the grass is that. Correct. Well, no, you can put them in the area where he's digging right now. I wanna replace where he's digging with the pools, and then you can gradually move. The bulls to wherever you want to move them. Okay. Okay. Then I listened dot com. Anyway, I'm gonna put your you got a great looking dog. Great has it snowing in Colorado right now. No, actually canyon cities the climate capital of Colorado. And it's about fifty degrees right now. It's beautiful blockade take your jacket off. And I'm gonna put you on hold on. I'm gonna send you for your dog. I'm gonna saying, you know, what I'm gonna send you some different food. I'm gonna send you Lucy pet form of sly petfood make change gradually. Add some of the Lucy pet food best pet food on the market. I want you to add some of the pet food there. And then what I want you is gradually take away some of the food that you're giving him and add more of the Lucy pet.

"Twenty the answer in Cleveland, Ohio. Bob, France, sitting in for Hugh Hewitt, and yes, we're talking about the shutdown which is now in day six it's only a partial shutdown as we know it's a quarter of the federal government three quarters of it remains operational, which of course, is good. But the question is how long is this going to laugh people say there is no end in sight. I'm struggling and looking for an end in sight. Truthfully. The only end is going to be with somebody blinks, obviously, I don't think there's going to be an equal parts compromised where Trump comes away with his saying, okay. We got three billion for the wall and Schumer says we gave them three billion for the wall. I think they'll give him not a nickel for the wall. So if it ends somebody's going to have to change your mind break who's going to break, I eight hundred five zero one two three four Saint Paul Minnesota is where we're going now. And we're gonna talk to Floyd. On the Hugh Hewitt program. And I'm having a hard time bringing Florida up there for can you hear me, sir. Yes, sir. How can you? Can you hear me? I hear you just fine, sir. Thank you. Go ahead. I want I want to make three points first off. I don't think the Democrats are gonna blink. And the reason for it is because the Schumer doesn't really care. He knows it all of the employees that are furloughed about ninety four percent of them are going to get aid. When they go back to work for all the time they had off. So all this is a big vacation for them. Yes. They will struggle during the time. If it goes more in about two weeks second point is that Trump will probably blink because he's compassionate. He doesn't want these people to be if it runs a long period of time to be without money. And and I understand that. No. I tend to I tend to agree. I think the pressure is going to be more on him, especially because of twenty twenty coming. You know, what I mean, here's a here's an thank you for the phone call. Here's the problem. Obviously for the president you either stay stand fast and say I am not bending on. This national security is important. I will not sell out the security of the American people, thus alienating hundreds of thousands of families who are part of the furlough, you know, people who are not going to get paid or are going to get paid much later. And they're going to struggle as you point out to meet their monthly bills to take care of their own necessities on a timely basis. So you're gonna make them come twenty twenty. If you hold them out too long, or you're gonna come back, and let them come back to work, and even your alienate your base that has said build that wall build that wall. What do you do if you're the president? I think the Democrats will have all the leverage here. And that's a shame because they should not Seattle Washington. Will you're on the Hugh Hewitt program with Bob France, sitting and go ahead. Well, hey, Bob. Thanks for having us. Americans happy new year to you all out there. Thank you as well. Okay. And there's four point your quick question. Okay. So number one, I think we got rename that frigging boundary or whatever boundary processing center. Okay. He's got to be some kind of processing center. I don't care if it takes twenty years to process them, but Neiman gave boundary processing center. Okay. Okay. Habits satellite militarized zone in each sector. You know what? I mean. There's satellite did not a full military but habit there, so that's the visible. Okay. Number three. Why does why do we have to get permission from? Schumer and bluesy. I don't you know what I mean? Why don't we just as a United States vote on the frigging thing? Okay. Let's just vote on it and double supersede anything. Well, we are where things whereas, you know, where a Representative Republic they we did vote on them. We voted in elected Pam to make our vote for us in congress. We we can't we're not a straight democracy where the American people vote on. Dim rules. So antiquated is is really dragging us. Okay. Keep it. Simple stupid. That's what I'm telling you guys. Okay. It doesn't take a rocket. Scientist. All right. Let me run this. Fritzy show, right? Well, Phil will bigger part. Well, here's the here's the thing. Thanks for the call. Here's the thing. We can't we can't just have the American people vote on everything. Okay. Which means we'd be going to oppose every week. Every Tuesday we'd have to go in and vote on whether or not we want to fund this or we want to find that the whole point of our government. And the whole point of the way we were founded constitutionally is we elect people to go out there and speak for us to cast those votes for us. And if they don't cast the votes the way we like them, then we replaced them if their next elections. I mean that that's the thing. You know that that's why people call this democracy are mistaken. We are a Representative constitutional Republic, we hire representatives to go and speak for us. And the sad. Truth is the Democrats more Democrats voted for more Democrats to speak for them and bus all of us in the house. Now, they one that show. And while Schumer does not have the majority in the in the United States Senate. The constitution requires a sixty vote majority in order to get these this legislation passed. Now, they went nuclear because of Harry Reid when it came to confirmation of judges. We only need a simple majority of fifty one and Mitch McConnell is refusing to do that. So part of this is on Mitch McConnell to me. If I if I had my way if I could council Mitch McConnell, I would say do it immediately. Because I promise you the moment. The Democrats take back the Senate whenever that happens if it's in two years or four years or whatever it is. They will absolutely do that to ram their legislation through canyon city. Colorado, Barbara, you're on the Hugh Hewitt Show with Bob France. Go ahead, Barbara, oh, well, outta just going to say another program. I heard somebody saying that they've read as quite a few thousands of dollars from people volunteering, and I would ball and tear to donate to fill the wall to me that that would be better for Trump, and anyone because heavy just needed maybe the million Democrats wanted or.

Jim rules because those are so antiquated is is really dragging us. Okay. Keep it. Simple stupid. That's what I'm telling you guys. Okay. It doesn't take rocket scientist to figure all this. All right. Let me run this frigging show. Right. Well, we'll bigger part. Well, here's the here's the thing. Thanks for the call. Here's the thing. We we can't. We can't just have the American people vote on everything. Okay. Which means we'd be going to the polls every week every Tuesday, we'd have to go in and vote on whether or not we want to fund this. Or are we wanna find that the whole point of our government and the whole point of the way we were founded constitutionally is we elect people to go out there and speak for us to cast votes for us. And if they don't cast the votes the way we like them, then we replaced them at their next elections. I mean, that's the thing you know, that. That's why people call this. A democracy are mistaken. We are a Representative constitutional Republic, we hire representatives to go and speak for us. And the sad. Truth is the Democrats more Democrats voted for more Democrats to speak for them. And thus all of us in the house. Now, they run that show. And while Schumer does not have the majority in the in the United States Senate. The constitution requires a sixty vote majority in order to get these this legislation passed. Now, they went nuclear because of Harry Reid when it came to confirmation of judges where you only need a simple majority of fifty one and Mitch McConnell is refusing to do that. So part of this is on Mitch McConnell to me, if I if I had my way, and if I could council Mitch McConnell, I would say do it immediately. Because I promise you the moment the Democrats take back the Senate whenever that happens if it's in two years or four years or whatever it is. They will absolutely do that to ram their legislation through canyon city. Colorado, Barbara, you're on the Hugh Hewitt Show with Bob France go, Barbara, oh, well, I'm just going to say another program. I heard somebody saying that they've read has risen as a few thousands of dollars from people volunteering, and I would volunteer to donate to fill the wall to me that that would be better for Trump than anyone because heavy just stated maybe the million that the Democrats wanted or maybe they can collect. Yeah,.
