Is Student Loan Forgiveness A Good Idea?

"Right now on the. Us government federal balance sheet there's loan receivables over a trillion dollars of student loan debt sitting there as a receivable for the fiscal year ending nineteen total assets of the federal government worth three point nine trillion of which one point one trillion was direct student loans. But here's the thing. Three point nine. Trillion in assets twenty six point nine trillion in liabilities. The difference the deficit is twenty two point nine trillion dollars. The us government is effectively insolvent. It does more than its assets. And if the us government road off four hundred and forty billion dollars of student loans it would just increase the level of insolvency. It would not sink. The government by any means the education department according to some private consulting work that they contract it out understand what the potential losses are on their student loans found. According to a report by the wall street journal that losses on the one point three seven dollars of student loans outstanding at the time this report was compiled would equal four hundred and thirty five billion dollars. Only nine hundred and thirty five billion would be paid back and that didn't include about one hundred fifty tonnes originated by private lenders that are guaranteed by the government each year. The government lends a hundred billion dollars to students to cover tuition to more than six thousand. Colleges and universities doesn't look at credit scores or the field of study or whether students will make enough after graduating to cover the debt. The wall street journal article reported that between two thousand five in two thousand sixteen four intent student loans. Most of them federal went went to borrowers with credit scores below the subprime threshold. That's assuming they actually had a credit score. Which at the time. That i took out my first student loan which i'll talk about a little later in this episode. I didn't have a credit score. Nor frankly i know what i was doing. But here's the thing. The consultants found out that a major driver of those losses were students. Who went on some type of income driven repayment plan. An income share to wear they only had to pay a percentage of their income and ultimately the loan could be forgiven after a number of years. If a loan isn't paid back in full because the payments are based on income in income isn't growing and ultimately the alone is written off after twenty years or so then that will lead to a loss in addition that study found that there are millions of other borrowers that would default on smaller amounts typically less than ten thousand dollars after the drop out of a community college or a for profit college one of the comments in this wall street journal article on the private consultants conclusion regarding the potential losses. For the us government. Student loan program is that taxpayers would be on the hook for this if the government off four hundred and forty billion dollars of student loans. Us government would receive less interest income and principal payments annually interest if we assume a five percent interest rate on one and a half trillion dollars of student. Loans is is only about eighty five billion dollars. now. I say only because total. Us government revenue is three point four trillion dollars. Interest income from student loans is only about two and a half percent expenditures in fiscal year. Twenty twenty six and a half trillion dollars. The deficit was three point. One trillion fourteen point seven percent of economic output or gdp nominal gdp and fiscal year. Two thousand twenty was twenty one point two trillion dollars. This deficit was fourteen point seven percent of that number the highest since the great financial crisis where the deficit was nine point. Eight percent the highest deficit ever was in nineteen forty three at twenty nine point six percent of gdp. The us ran three point. One trillion deficit in twenty twenty and the federal reserve increased the amount of treasuries on their balance sheet essentially funding that deficit. Two point two trillion dollars is the additional treasury bonds that the federal reserve bought so two point two trillion of the three point one trillion dollar deficit. These student loans are tiny percent of what the government is spending much of which the federal reserve financed indirectly. Veterans are didn't just give the money to the treasury. they went through the county mechanism of buying treasury bonds. But that's what happened. The federal reserve created the money out of thin air to purchase treasury bonds to plug the deficit now when i started hearing about forgiving student. Loans cancelling them. My impression was the student loan. Burden is as high as it's ever been. That students are struggling tremendously compared to when i took out student loans in the late eighties and early nineties. What i found was the average student loan and again this is based on data from marc canter wits. This is just the average student loan balance for graduates with bachelor's degree when they leave school in one thousand nine hundred nineteen ninety-three. It was ninety three hundred dollars. Forty six percent of students had student loan debt. That's about how much i had little over ten thousand dollars in student loans. When i left graduate school today. The average student loan balance is twenty nine thousand nine hundred dollars just for students. With bachelor's degrees sixty nine percent of graduating students have student loan balances. That amount going from ninety three hundred to twenty nine thousand. Nine hundred was a four point. Six percent annual increase. Now that's a burden no doubt and if it growing at four point six percent it's growing faster than inflation yet if i look at what students are making when they graduate in nineteen ninety-three or year after they graduated so in nineteen ninety-four an engineer. Starting salary was thirty thousand. Nine hundred dollars. A humanities graduate was making twenty one thousand three hundred dollars so if we compare that salary to the amount of their debt engineer made three point three times. The amount of student loan debt they had and the humanities major may two point three times the amount of student loan debt they have if we look at what engineers typically make coming out of university. Today it's close to seventy thousand dollars or about two point three times the amount of their student debt back in one thousand nine hundred. They made three point three times the amount that they owed now. It's two point three times so they own more relative to their salary but the interest rates are lower now. So they're able to handle that. But it's not this huge change that i had expected for the humanities graduate. They went from earning two point. Three times Student loan balance to one point eight times now. Part of that is pell. Grants which are grants given to low income students to essentially pay for school. I got a lot of pell grants when i went to school. That program has only grown about three point nine percent per year the maximum payout amount per student so it has not grown as fast as student debt levels. Now we can say well may be. College graduates are able to find jobs. The unemployment rate for recent graduates was five point one percent in nineteen ninety-two it was three point. Nine percent before the pandemic hit in february twenty twenty and so a greater percentage of recent graduates had jobs in early. Twenty twenty then back in nineteen ninety-two now. The unemployment rate at least in september was nine point one percent according to some data from the new york fed which suggests that yeah Graduates are struggling to get jobs. It is harder today than it was in nineteen ninety two but not that much difficult. And i don't recall calls to cancel student. Loan debt back in the early to the mid ninety s

How food delivery changed in 2020

"Know the way we eat food the way we deliver food the way we get food chain so radically in twenty twenty once the pandemic and so many restaurants and move to a takeout only policy and so many grocery stores. We didn't want to go in. we wanted to take. We not take out but we wanted to have our groceries delivered so many changes this year. Jeremiah alley yang. Who's an analyst with colegio insights says that historically shoppers have been slower to adopt online purchases of groceries compared to categories like tech and apparel but the pandemic change that grocery shopping in the us jumped a hundred and ten percent in daily online sales in april just after the pandemic hit and he says that only pandemic could have spurred such a rapid adoption of e commerce in the grocery category. I talked to a bunch of people recently for this article in usa. Today about how people are coping and dealing with getting their food. I talked to anna anna gurney. Who's a professor at the university of mass in amherst. Where even there at town of like forty thousand people whole foods was delivering initially. Initially you would take like a week to get the order in but as of last week you could get your stuff within two hours. alex cantor. Who is the ceo of or a firm that assists restaurants with online ordering tells me that what it was expected to happen over. The next ten years with a growth in online thing actually happened in a few months. The hallway that consumers interact with restaurants has fundamentally changed. He's been advocating that. Many restaurants will be operating in smaller venues but with bigger kitchens too because so many people have gotten so comfortable clicking buttons on their phones and using delivery apps like doordash uber eats postmates to bring the food home. Now researcher incisive predicts the digital sales will make up more than half or fifty four percent of all restaurant sales by twenty twenty five and as you know walking down the street and seeing your local restaurant is a very sad thing right now because over one hundred thousand restaurants have closed since the pandemic. And who knows what's gonna happen over the next few months. Alex kanter whose family owns the iconic. Canter's deli in los angeles sauce thirty five percent of its revenues from delivery before the pandemic a number that's now grown to one hundred percent with restaurant operandi twenty four hour basis serving mostly delivery orders. You can also drop in the door and pick up stuff in person. Post pandemic kenner believes that people will return to inside dining but not like before business. Travel will never be the same. He says there will never be a lunch. Rush from office workers again because so many people won't be returning to offices meanwhile our friend and amherst an-and gurney says the despite the growing pains while she plans to return to restaurants post pandemic she sticking with online food delivery it saves time. It's very efficient and it's reliable.

"Is honored to host such an event of prey vote stand and the doors will open in 5 P.m.. So What he thinks going to happen as we enter into the you know George Bligh Rock Student Wellness Center in the Brady Arena. I think people need to be motivated. I think there's a lot of anxiety, a lot of discouragement out there among conservatives. But I want people to understand one thing, And this is so vitally important here is that Donald Trump when you step back and get rid of all the mainstream media coverage. This is one of the most successful presidents and modern American history. I mean the amount of things he was able to accomplish bringing peace to so many Middle Eastern countries, the revolutionary work he did on our federal judiciary. Protecting religious liberty and the unborn. I mean, the list goes on and on and on. I think that history is going to Judge Donald Trump much fairer than the Democrats. But Dr Canter even beyond that. You're seeing a lot of these Never trump Republicans out there saying always time to rally around Joe Biden and you know, we need to set aside our differences and Let's just forget the last four years have meant well, I don't think we can do that, and I don't think we should do that. I think people need to understand that as much as the Democrats wanted to beat Donald Trump. Those never trump Republicans and never trump evangelicals wanted to beat Donald Trump even more. Yeah, they're jealousy, their ignorance of political history. They're feigning over morality while you have a president who has upheld life more than any other president in modern history. Including Ronald Reagan, whose my political hero, a man who moved the embassy to Jerusalem. Like every Republican and Democrat president said they were going to do and every Republican or Democrat president before him lied about doing the same man who brought peace to the Middle East. We just saw this week where Morocco Now normalized relations with Israel. That's Morocco. That's Bob Brain that Saudi Arabia that's Azerbaijan. The list is massive of what's happening in the Middle East because of Donald Trump. And he was a singular warrior in here, and I think you're I thought we were hoping that Prey votes stand rally. Begins on our knees with prayer, recognizing the sovereignty of our god over our country, and then that as we get off our knees we vote, according to biblical values were not. Republicans were not. Democrats were biblical cysts were conservatives were Patriots When we take a stand, we're going to take a stand, regardless of whether we win or lose. But it's our job under a conviction of value to do so, and we're just honored that you're going to be here in you yourself are going to be speaking here tonight and taking the stage. We're grateful because I know how busy you are. And they ability that you have to come here and drive here. I'm just sorry you had to cut through Alabama of all places to do so I gotta tell you, it's not too bad. If there were if it wasn't for the speed traps, I would have already been there. But I will say this If you're if you're looking for a good meal, the huddle House and Winfield, Alabama. Nobody's wearing a face mask. Well, I'm a little disappointed. I'd have thought you were a waffle House man Word, no Huddle house. I mean, what's better than smothered and covered Well when there's not a waffle house, and you got to make do there's always a little house. So you know, I'm not. I'm not real picky, Dr Canter Well, and you know why they're not wearing masks is because we live in the free states of the South and not the Chinese states of the North, where You have to wear your Western burka or you're not a good patriot, and it's not up to you as an individual citizen to determine your responsibility. It's up to the socialist collective and the Ayatollahs at the front. Let you know what you can or cannot do it because they're our parents, right? Governments have to tell us what's best for us, even if we could read otherwise. Well, said. All right, Doctor, Janitor series going to cut me off here, so I better let you get back to it. Thank you so much Start. We'll see you in a couple hours again. That is the Georgia Rally. Todd Starnes is going to be a part of our spray vote Stand right here this evening on the campus. Of Truett McConnell University in Cleveland, Georgia. Todd will be joined by other speakers that include three congressman Doug Collins, Louie Gohmert and Jody Hice. As well as the President, Family Research Council Tony Perkins, as well as the Faith and Freedom Coalition's Ralph Reed. And so we hope you could be apart. We hope that you will join us this evening the doors open at 5 P.m., and the rally begins at 7 P.m. if there's ever been a time That you need to take a stand for our country. Take a knee. The only knew you should take us before that no one else Anyways, it's now. Because we still have time. I'm frankly not given up Hope. And we regardless need to live according our convictions. When it comes to our country and exceptional company country, one that was uniquely made by our Lord in a Judeo Christian ethic, and we're watching it Wade away by Socialists on the left. As they attempt You take an election away from our duly elected president..

Enes Kanter: Enemy of the State

"Jeremy SCHAAP WE'RE GONNA talk to and his canter himself later in this episode. But I I wanted to talk to you specifically because you did cover kanter story really in depth for sixty last year, and by now I suppose a lot of American Mba fans are vaguely aware that cantor is deep into this long-running feud with the government of Turkey, his native country. But most fans also probably couldn't explain what that viewed is actually about. So let's start off broadly because protests of all kinds have become kind of relatively commonplace in the NBA. What about kanter situation here mixed the so unique. Well Here. We have well established NBA player. Who is one of the most famous athletes his country's ever produced? Who cannot go back to his native country because he is someone who has every reason to believe if he set foot on Turkish soil now? You'll be arrested. Or that? Physical harm would come to him. And his canter made a decision a long time ago. that he would be a vocal outspoken in highly visible opponents of the Turkish government would sees him as nothing less than its enemy. And so what are the roots of this conflict between cantor and his home country? It's very simple and also very complicated. It's simple in the sense that cantor is persona non grata because he is a supporter. Of a man named Fatullah Doolan. Who is Muslim cleric whose lived in the United States last twenty, one years, and at one time was very close ally of president of Turkey but there has been a falling out between the two men and the respective movements. Over the course of the last decade aired one has been ruling in an increasingly authoritarian way. Silencing his critics, intimidating critics locking up opponents of his government's he's believed that Fatullah NHS movement has had too much power and he believes that ghoulish followers had too much influence particularly in the judiciary civil service in the police and that they have been working to undermine him grueling and air to honor now sworn enemies nemeses of each other. In an his canter as a supporter of Fatullah doolan vocal one at that. is considered by many intricacy as kind of traitor. How does cantor even get involved in this in the first place like you just described? An extreme religious political situation how does he end up taking side in this? Well, he's someone who grew up in fact as part of Fatullah Goulding's movement. The Movement had established schools by most counts, very good schools, not just in Turkey, but around the world and his cancer is someone who was educated in the schools someone who was associated with the movement as tens of thousands maybe hundreds of thousands of Turks have been over the last several decades. Now, as an adult kanter has continued to follow the teachings of Fatullah, Golan, who has promoted a moderate form of Islam in NS is certainly one of if not his most prominent supporter. So Jeremy described a dispute between two men who knew each other well, the president of Turkey Air Lan and this cleric Fatullah Golan now struggling for control of the country. And the date July Fifteenth Two thousand sixteen is a really pivotal one in this story. So what happened on that day roughly four years ago now? The details are still now for years later. Unclear in some respects. But what we can say is that there was an attempt to seize power in Turkey. By some elements of the military, we are coming on the air with breaking news and apparent military coup. Now, unfolding in Turkey Turkish state television has been seized by the military martial law imposed across the country. After a few hours, the coup was beaten back several hundred people died. And prison air to one immediately laid the blame at the feet of Fatullah Golan and his supporters.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Is the 51 year old man attempted to cross East Fremont Avenue to go to a bodega Noel Rivera says the noise woke him up like a like a morning of truck explosion like that. How bad was it? The car was literally with rose. Full fire. He speed. I heard a tie is like burning rubber that witnesses say the impact was so hard it threw the men across Prospect Avenue. Dario upon take came running down the street and saw his friend in a pool of blood was called these thing. To see the Raymond be Dariel. Wake up. Be strong gonna be okay. You know, child Get a reaction out of you and nothing. He was taken to ST Barnabus Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A short time later. Police still searching for the driver of that car. Let's get traffic in transit. Here's Karen Stewart. We are in quite the state on the westbound beak. Yui. I'm sorry about this. I can see with several cameras that we've got on the B Q. E West in Queens. We are absolutely stand still now from right off the cause. Yusko Bridge all the way down into Cabinet Plaza. There is roving construction on the B Q. E westbound. That is what's doing this and near the B Q. E. With that road work, the right, Linus closed. What a mess. The outbound wanna in Brooklyn after the prospect has got an accident now, and the outbound going to send 58th Street has also got construction. So the Galanis inbound and outbound is heavy, but it's moving from 65th Street up into Atlantic Avenue, Staten Island, Staten Island Expressway is still dealing with that eastbound construction in Mosul. It really ruined this morning's rush hour. Right now. There are delays and other direction on the expressway to Mosul, but they're not extensive. By any means. Word for 40 is looking good. And the Staten Island River crossings. Not bad. A little bit of traffic into Brooklyn. Not too much of a big deal. Would you have an accident? However, over on the belt Parkway? The belt is dealing with construction in this area, too. Right around Sheepshead Bay, Nap street westbound delays or going back into Stillwell Avenue. Right.

"Well and sticking with that theme of you know her showing and things obviously is important to have to leads at the cancer or the low. Even if you throw a ride or don't horse show but it's really important if your show. So what do you do Terry? For riders who find their horses only have one lead at the CANTU or the Lope instead of two A lot of times it starts out with that that can be a rider problem too. I mean it could also be a horse issue Sometimes horses are stiffer one direction than the other. So you have to work on. Bending encounter abandoned help make them more flexible. Every horse should be out and move hips and shoulders as you ask So basically one thing to keep in mind that a lot of a lot of people out there other than writing. Most variety destructors understand. The concept is the lead comes from the Hind in and the horse. Judge when you're judging bid classes you know at. That wasn't set up right. If he didn't move his hind end over. I knew he was going to miss his lead before they took that first up. And that would help me you know spin around and catch the rest of them that Mr Lee Miss. Your lead. That's about twenty points off when you're thinking about it and you're not gonNA place in that class and as a judge that helps you knock down the class now. As an instructor you know and my daughter. She really had a hard time with us. I mean so her riding instructor to work on her to you know to get the worst. Listen to wait so basically you ask. The horse moves hips to the to the inside with your outside leg and when he gives so that in response to move that sits over. That's when you ask them to go forward with your outside. See and have your. You still had her outside leg behind the girth. Ask for a little bit more leg and you're inside leg. Is that the earth. Keep him on the rail and basically he will begin to learn to pick up that league correct but once again he has to be bending first. So you have to do the groundwork before you start asking. But once he's able to move and tip over he's usually going to get that lead and I had have another example. That's Kinda funny. My daughter used to laugh at me that She showed for eight from the time she was eight years old. And whenever you're in the warm of brain there's a lot of kids that don't have you know instructors that their parents have been helping teach them and they had problems in the warm up praying and I would constantly help people even though their daughters competition. That's what my daughter would think. It was funny actually. She wasn't upset because you know she's learned to ride for herself. Not for the competition So I would help people and one time. There was a girl at this big show. That was that the world press center when it used to be called Roberts and the girl missing or lead. The one lead in the warm-up brain and her mom was totally frustrated and Basically I just said hey you know I can help you. This is what my daughter learned not tell her I was a ride. Instructors just said I can help you. You know this is. My daughter has the same problem and tottered to move that. Horse's hip over and within ten minutes. She was getting relieved within eighty percent of the time just within ten minutes in. She could do that now. The funny part was she's like I've been taking lessons. You know for two years twice a week and her instructor jumping and she said well. Don't worry about the league. We're just not gonNA worry about delays and right there. I mean it sits in the horseshoe. She's not gonNA place if she misses that lead and so I mean basically with teaching her that and having the patience and our horse was already you know he was bending and everything. It's just a matter. It was pilot. Error is what I call it just encouraging our you know she did well at that. Show so sick my business card invented instructor. But I've never been in it for the money I've been in it for the joy of teaching if that makes them nervous because I needed to make money but you still do a lot of teaching on the side as a traveling trainer so I enjoy..

Discussing Leading up to Breeder's Cup 2019 (With Scott Hazleton, Nick Luck, Gina Bryce, Frank Mirahmadi)

"Tasers plus i'm working came about ten years ago now i think it was wins and jato is still running goodyear to come i think she won the this stuff yeah and so i missed her agonizing defeat but yeah great to be back we mortar place kind of standing here thinking why do i live why do i live in the UK suv amen code and i i try to live here as much as i possibly can and you've been you've been stateside a ton the last several months skull and comparing notes as to how many days spent away from home this year i was beaten by you you will have someone nearly two hundred i think about one hundred twenty six months for me my very long suffering wife is just that if you need to pass assistant i'm happy to come along make the coffee whatever i'd say it's a pretty good gig you got going on out here on a day like today looking over the mountains perfect temperature top class horses cantering i you all is well with the world now and ideally from from here on in the next seventy two hours through saturday tonight get them all around safe and make this make this the the idyllic session that it should be the from from art lips god's ears as we say i wanted also to to the dubai experience right the last the last several years the the international i scott i mean lucky enough to where it we've got a royal ascot gina as well jeanine scott on the same royal ascot show now skull comes over and does a great job for fatigue as well then dubai and dubai together on on that show so yeah trips have been right i mean you can't get rid of me and to be honest with you our our our first encounter we always have we have this connection our first encounter which bad pinch is not here for this story because we're all together was the two thousand seven breeders cup at monmouth park it was my first big remote for HR TV it was was your first go second chauffeur ESPN yeah and it was lafitte lafitte was during the winter cycle presentations i show and we somehow not surprisingly found each other and managed to hang out more than a few times it was of course that week it was often oblique experience that we well saturday and sunday uh about friday and saturday but we're not talking about the weather though you're you guys were well the rain was what i call crying baby rain you think naturally has to stop but it never does danger this week that was is that was as frustrating a scenario as you'll ever going to have around racetrack it was gorgeous every single day that i got i got to meet scott hazelton think either third how i was blessed and we've not looked back since twelve years later here we are that was i i was there broadcasting for for me that was actually my first that was the first season of the show when i was alone was two thousand seven and broadcasting from from the from john heinz office that compound here and the show was four o'clock at that time four to seven so i was there all day and i basically ended up answering phones and helping people tickets and and really i was always met the days i that's one of my fondest memories let's get some let's get some thoughts and nick i always rely on you for international purposes however you've been covering all the lead ups so you know your opinions can go far beyond the the euro's but from an introductory stand point some of the horses this year that that are are kind of new and of course we had not a bayton switch but magical and up disappearing at the last minute and it was frustrating because she was ready to the sun aim she'd have been the marquee name as she'd been here given i welsh around last year and the season she's hiding she went on champions are champions weekend but she's not so on we go there isn't not substan- aim if you'd like to to hang the european challenge on but it scott some debt and there are plenty of hoses who legitimate i think probably the most interesting pair of horses is old persian and anthony van dyck see whether they can whether they can let down to bricks and mortar on the on the turf in the mile and a half race and whether they can expose any shortcomings in in bricks and mortar stamina i don't if you saw the clip on on twitter of me accosting chad yesterday it was a good natured exchange i said to my overcomplicating it he said you always complicate everything i think the the influence i was supposed to draw was that breaks it was just a good horse and i i think he'd be impervious to distance but i i think there's a dealer confidence in the ballydoyle camper van dyken can step up i think you'll have to step up a bit even though he's won a dobby and finish that in an irish champion stakes i think he needs another little step foot but they seem to think he's had the perfect preparation and he's by no means an afterthought they've had this race lined up for him since the summer and that always when we get to this juncture very often we've talked about horses that at the last set again they said oh let's go and and those horses invariably don't run well exactly so it's it's great that he's he ain't going great record in the race he's probably comparable to one one or two of his winners atn equivalent stage of their career he's he's legitimate and i can't seem finishing out of the out of the front path really i said to michelle when i was chatting to a yesterday on on the TV gee breakfast show and i'll say it again if old persian doesn't get any love from the batter's he's probably worth passing because on his full from your last year and his form for made on earlier this year a mile and a half on firm turf he's a he's a very good host but he does need to take a leap forward from the canadian run which was just okay even though he won the triple digit bar though did he not a one can rier you can run fast but just there wasn't much depth to the race fair enough for the work that i want to bring up to is a lou neck the ville de mar hicks runner because if desert encounter doesn't make that spectacular run at woodbine doesn't doesn't he show up here with a little bit of a little i'm chad i'm chairman of the desert encounter fan club only only a really ardent admirer of his exploits think he would have any kind of a show in anna breeders cup too so i think he's a show plan alaniz maybe he's honest horse who has proven that he's effective in north america but i think that's about us boulder cases i can make fair enough at an eugene you sort of perked up at the mention of his name all right yeah i actually agree with nick on the on the breeders cup turf but i just saw time christmas go past this morning on friday i think that's pretty amend as a bit of a lottery that race and they're coming down the hill and you want to get a good break and be drawn well and and get on with proceedings but the europeans quite well drawn in that race seems to be quite a few in with chances is one that's really so stamped his authority on the five furlongs sprint division at home it's a nice little horse his knee and actually when you see him go past he's not going to take the i really but i think he could be quite interesting and he's in a good spot there archie watson does really well with his juvenile he's bringing over a runner and band practice i think it's been joined in two so you'd expect him to had to be sharp and out and and another one with a with a chance but i think the juvenile houses some sometimes the race is that europeans can can occasionally pinch on the turf and there's a few interesting ones this year lucky though that with it being it's a different this year because this is only the second year of the juvenile turf sprint they had but they didn't it wasn't consecrated until she was able to race on the on the go a bit but having it around the band i think that the wesley horses have the advantage of their speed they out of the gate they get that position on the turn and then while you know it's it's game over it's not what you know the european i used to i think camario win if she breaks she's i know that's the that's the if i honestly think she's she couldn't it took a role of keeneland didn't that it took a rule of the stretch kaitlyn and then they're not gonna come back here i don't think we saw last year pledges hose just came out and blasted a multiple that was a different type of course it was it was i guess but i i don't know i think she wins if she breaks success good chances we'll drive drive yeah it's interesting they've taken a ali to wolverhampton to try and chain around the bend and get used to that because you know they you say they all going to encounter different different conditions today sir friday and they've only been running on the straight it's tough five gallons they've had to practice changing awesome getting out quickly and coming around a bend if you were there's there's one thing that unites ceos like a ali in the juvenile turf sprint and a host like anthony van dyke in turf is that this fixture has been on the top of their agenda since the summer so you're talking about hostess who are being specifically targeted at the breeders cup there's to die yet would be another one in the long race for fillies on the turf the to your own race on the tough and raja verion before she even one and finish second on an island in the moya he was saying i want to go to california with an east had some success with osa finishing placed in breeders cup races before they they have three hoses who have been typically targeted at this fixture right from the word go this year

"Hiring is challenging but there's one place you can go. We're hiring is simple and smart. That place is ziprecruiter where growing businesses connect to qualified candidates. It's try it for free at ziprecruiter dot com slash tech talk ziprecruiter the smartest way to hire jefferson graham. You're listening to talking talking tech. I'm back with part two of my interview with young twenty six year old alex kanter. His great grandfather started the l._a. Institution canter's tally way back when in now alex is all about online ordering in how the restaurant industry has changed from all these food apps. He's got a lot of really interesting takes on the changes that have unfolded in front of our eyes have a listen to our conversation consumer soon. Behaviors changing and millennials in general are not cooking as much there. It's so convenient to just open up an app and click one button and <hes> already knows your credit card information where you're where you're located your allergies your order history. It's just a convenience economy. It's a different time time and it's a very exciting opportunity for restaurants that understand how to participate and be involved so gimme reaction here. I'm your i'm your typical candidates customer. The morale like driving there. I like going in the experience. I liked jostling with the acerbic waiter right. I like the halting yet when i if i was to order the food at home. It's gonna shop forty-five minutes later an hour later. It's not a hot pastrami. It's our coldest rami well. It's probably a warm strikes and the goal is really to to replicate the experience in the store but that's obviously very difficult for some restaurants to deal. It's it's really important as a restaurant owner to think about the the right menu for delivery. A lot of restaurants make the mistake of putting their whole menu online including food that does not hold up well travel well. It took a lot of iterating and understanding how what we should be selling in. The first place is how it needs to be package. Not just how it leaves it how it arrives your point and we ended up removing some items from our delivery menu and finding out new ways to package food to keep it crispy hot and there's a lot of experimentation. That's needed but overall. I think what's happening is the actual footprint. The restaurant is going to get smaller. There's no longer going to be a need for large seating capacity and i think more and more restaurants are going song to shift to smaller square footage and really designed for getting food out the door as more and more people are starting to order food from wherever over that located goodbye kibbutz room for those in l._a. Who know what i'm talking about is a classic classic place in i you know it's it's more of a the bar scene of canada's but it's it's the knee. Kanner seats almost six hundred people at once and there's times where it's busy. The join us jumping in both rooms are fully packed but you know there's a lot of days of the week where that second room is is closed or or shutdown others overflow and it's it's not because people are coming in or it's because we're getting less orders. It's just the orders are shifting to off premise and so. We don't need that kind of seeing passing. I'm jefferson graham. You've been listening talking tech. "Hiring is challenging but there's one place you can go. We're hiring is simple and smart. That place is ziprecruiter where growing businesses connect to qualified candidates. It's try it for free. At ziprecruiter dot com slash tech talk ziprecruiter the smartest way to hire so alex kanter was born in the kitchen kitchen <hes> as one of the members of the family of the canter's deli iconic l._a. Institution and now he has a firm that helps restaurants the deal with the onslaught of online ordering alex. Thanks for being here so tell us tell us about what is happening at the restaurants. People are going less or or people are hungry in that leaving the home what's happening. Well you pretty much nailed. Near description of the restaurant. Landscape is changing their seven hundred thousand thousand brick and mortar restaurants here in the u._s. And every restaurant is now faced with this challenge. It's an opportunity but it's a challenge to adapt their business for or delivery and what that means is drivers showing up to pick up food. That's placed on ordering apps like ubereats and post meets endured ash and consumer behavior is shifting and people are eating from restaurants more often but it's not always in person it's through these apps and the replacing cooking at home home with opening up grub pressing one button and having food come to the door come to their office just a more convenient way way to connect with your favorite restaurant and it's it's a challenge that canter's deli. My family's restaurant has been faced away and really in two thousand nine when the recession hit us. Our foot traffic was down ten percent. We were forced to figure out new ways to reach customers. I experimented and signed up with all these different online ordering platforms starting with grub hub in the twenty four and fourteen online ordering platforms later thirty percent of our business. Today is now on these delivery companies as a restaurant. That's open twenty four hours. A day canter's i elliott it's been been around since nineteen thirty one started by my great grandfather. Ben kanner and it's been in my family for four generations. My grandfather worked there sixty five five years. My dad pretty much dropped out of high school to take over the family business and he hasn't looked back since and his sister does the hiring and firing his cousin does the accounting really a family business and i grew up working. They're very young age as well. My job was to adapt the business just like everyone else in my family family and along the way we discovered that there's a lot of technology that we needed to bring into the business including our first point of sale sale system having a mobile friendly website just minor updates to bring it into the next generation and delivery was a big component of that but it was very very challenging as a restaurant actually operate fulfill those orders. We're messing up. Orders left and right drivers were showing up to pick up food that that hadn't even been made yet and ultimately we realized we needed a better way to plug into these revenue streams and get the order information information flowing directly into the kitchen rather than to the tablets that were in the front of the house. We had a wall of technology nine tablets laptops laptops and a fax machine just to manage all these incoming orders so you have a company called order bark. We're hearing culver city at your offices order. Mark is the piece of hardware that goes into the restaurants. Tell everybody yes so. I started order mark in january of twenty seventeen with my co founders to solve the exact problem and what we do is we built consolidation device. It's a one tablet and one printer that can go into a kitchen that takes orders from different online ordering platform standardizes the incoming data and feeds it into a single flow directly into the kitchen so today we work with thousands of restaurants nationwide from mom and pops up to very large chains like sonic subway and what we're doing is we're giving them. We're shipping them a single device that they can receive all of these different orders from anwr actually beyond consolidating the orders were plugging them in to all of the online ordering companies that are relevant and the zip code from a restaurant owner listening right now and i say that sounds great how much so this so we charge just a fixed fixed monthly fee on how many locations you have and where you're located. It's about one hundred bucks a month. Per location is where it starts and it it really allows you to receive additional orders because you're being plug into more revenue streams and most of our restaurants actually make out that one hundred bucks a month on the first day of each month alex kanter order marc canter family. Thank you so much for talking tech with us. I'm jefferson graham. You can find me on twitter at jefferson. "It was an insult to Julius canter. It was an insult. Juice Randall juice rental who came back and tweeted this funny. This is great to cantor. Quote, last time, you guarded me. I had forty five relaxed, bro. Now, wait. Hold on a second. That is funny line. Yeah. At this point, having been reports wasn't our lives. I'm betting at that very point. You went and looked up. What Julius Randle average last year? You want to tell the people that want to nine he's good player. He was in the world when he wanted good player. And I'm not sure I on Williamson's gonna average twenty one and nine in his freshman rookie year. Whatever but, but my sensitive is that who died and made Kanter an expert on these things. Exactly did that. We'll take in his cancer now because everybody wants somebody to come on their podcast radio and be candid and forthcoming and insightful and cancer is a great author, even as the biggest bullseye and sports seems to be on his back. He comes on talks with he stands at a gay. He talks with you, and this analogy there's a reason people think Julius Randle no longer necessary on New Orleans. 'cause Arianna is like Julius Randle, plus expectations. Royal, y you're praising on prey into while you do that. You in something, he said, within thirty seconds in that interview what within thirty seconds after I believe he was dismissive only assessing that, okay? He said this quote, if Zion develops a shot he'll be hall of Famer so in Thurs Jenkins, he went from saying guy was too, if he can shoot. He's a hall of one more time, wouldn't you? If you're new warriors, if you take one nine take it take it, absolutely kanter's. Right. To me. Can't goes the way he said it was it was the, you know, the context of don't you think I thought he was all right? I thought it was all right here in the tank for him. I am. I like him. There you go. So only revenging into a new area today on what we are going to videotape comparisons of soccer goals excited, I am. This score in question is Wayne Rudy of your DC United the first goal came a few months ago and you can see him go straight, uncle Charlie on this. Right. Footed kick from an impossible angle inside the far post the second one which was last night right here in your neighborhood. Yeah. We're Rooney suckers, the Orlando keeper the same goof gave up the first goal on the shot from nearly seventy yards. And with that, Tony, we will now break it down. Which goal was better. Let me get to one thing. I my DC United, what is your mailing address? But as Maryland. That tells the soccer fish three miles from the stop it. Okay. All right. So it's which is better as interesting. They're both great these both great air Greg. If I have to choose, which is better because as you say, there's no angle, there's on the kick from last year. There's a baby, jaw March. It's always in there, whatever it.

Nets fans taunt Lakers with 'Thank You, Magic' chant while D'Angelo Russell shoots free throws

"On Wednesday night. Russell was at the free throw line and fans started chanting. Thank you magic, clap clap clap, clap, clap, even though the nets weren't playing the Lakers. They were playing the Cavaliers, and they just started chanting. Thank you magic. Because magic traded diangelo Russel to the Brooklyn nets. And you know that got on sportscenter. They got all this stuff and magic and LeBron or sitting there looking at it and LeBron just staring at magic like. Yeah. You're the one that did this because he can't take any blame. And then earlier this month. The now, listen, I know I know this is about Luca earlier this month, though, Lukas steps to the free throw line in the nets fan start chanting. Trae young bad. How Don missed both free. Throws man, the Celtics and that encourages you to keep up coming up with stuff. Absolutely. No Celtics were at the free throw line and fans start chanting. Kyw res leaving. And then they miss their free throws. And then Marquel Foltz is at the free throw line. They start chanting Jason Tatum. So like, they just these guys are creative. Here's one nets fans are Channing uncle Dennis while Leonard was shooting free throws. Now, they're chanting. We have cap space. So like these guys are just coming up with all sorts of great stuff. And then the last one that I know of right now is cantor waves to the nets fans chanting, whereas Kanter and then nods in agreement as they chant you need canter. So there you go they are they are a a smart bunch, and they're trying to get in everybody's heads. And that's what I want out of our fan base. I want Mavs fans or stars fans. Cowboys fans to be in a place where they're trying to figure out how to really drill in and drive in and get an players skin. He's like in the episode where we got the Darrell strawberry. Tip from. Yeah. He is out in the outfield and Lisa and Bart are annoying him by aero and March says to stop and then Kevin he says mom there. Pro athletes rolls right off their back at which point Darrell strawberry. Sheds a singular tier one tier has. He said because he said is there since you brought up especially like with the stars. In the Mavericks, were maybe you'll hear it a little bit better. Is there any team or insult that you have ready to go like if they're like all right, Cory we're bringing you up furrow at the a c but you need to be prepared to destroy this team. What team are we playing against? Let's say the Pacers the Indiana Pacers. Your good player. I guess so broken my. The depot hea L, A depot broke his about Paul. George depot. Own now. Yeah. The ban. Well, all the Pacers players break their leg, right? God that's a chance. You could throw your your. Okay. Your legs next. What would you do for? What would you do for the Lakers? The lakers. I mean, I guess you just kind of us something along your hairline. Or you could just open up the seat next to you point out, and chant. Here's your seat because Rondo come sit. I did see that play not mas- fans 'cause I would just chanted the entire team saying you'll get traded. Veronica, did you probably will send Celtics fans that were chanting that to Brandon Ingram bronze gonna LeBron's going to trade you so man, this is that's the fun kind of stuff right there. I love when fans get raucous and really do stuff like that. So I'm in. Do we have the ability as as every sports stars Mavericks Cowboys, maybe the Rangers could do that. But and all the other places just a place to be seen at more than it is raucous and rowdy. Yeah. No. I I could see that. And that's it's getting that group of people together. They're like we're here for the game. And we're going to make a difference. You know, what we saw that this year? And I can't believe I forgot the opening game at the American Airlines center for the Mavericks when we played the timber wolves. Every time Carl Anthony towns and Andrew Wiggins went to the free throw line the entire crowd started chanting Jimmy Butler. That's right, right. Why did we stop? Why have we stopped that? Because they're not good right now. And I'll tell you that right now, though, the Brooklyn nets, I think it's working for them. They're currently tied for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. So in case, you're like, well, Brooklyn sucks think again because they. Will be in the playoffs. Yeah. So maybe that's why maybe the Mavs fans will do start getting that kind of that level of things back whenever they start getting good. Or maybe that's what we need in order to become

Anthony Davis Trade Rumors

"One pick not knowing where that number one pick will be and but knowing that the odds are against it being the number one pick overall, would you be willing to make that trade and an overwhelming majority? I wanna say like two thirds of Nick fan said no, I would not make that trade. So I'm a little surprise for a fan base. That's always. He's in on every star player that becomes available and certainly ones that have less realistic ties to New York at least would Anthony Davis. It seems like a possibility that he'd be willing to come to New York, maybe not as much as the Lakers, but certainly it's not out of the realm of possibility that knick fans really have not been overwhelmingly positive when you get into what the actual specifics would be to land a player like him talking to Gordon Damer on the shell Pennzoil performance line. ESPN ninety eight point seven FM in New York here on first and last Michael junior. And Gordon, I I saw the same thing kind of playing out on social media where it seems to be that outcry against something that undermines the idea in the NBA, especially I think when it comes to picks and lottery picks and things near the top. There is such a hesitancy to hold onto them. I only point to the conversation. We had about Khalil Mack in the NFL this year who came over and joined the bears in the offseason. Which is you drafted this position in hopes that he eventually becomes Anthony Davis. Or Khalil Mack? I mean in your mind. I would that be something that you were willing to give up if you were the Knicks that one pick and Kristaps Porzingis for a guy who in New York fans wildest dreams could only hope Kristaps came half of the thing that I brought up was I'd be willing to make that deal. If I make it right now, if I don't know where the number one pick it I don't know where the Knicks pick is going to be. And I don't know when even Chris Porzingis is going to be back playing healthy. So would that uncertainty? Absolutely. I'd make that deal right now. Now, if I knew that poisoning was back it was healthy. And I knew the number one pick was the Knicks pick that they had the number one. They were getting Zion. Well, then maybe I might reevaluate things especially with the uncertainty about Anthony Davis whether or not he would want to come here and sign long-term. So that I would would play a factor into it. But with all the uncertainty it almost feels like the Knicks have done too good a job selling selling their fan base. This idea of hope for the future that some big free agent is going to sign here. When you have an Anthony Davis who amazing the amount of criticisms that I heard about Anthony Davis from Nick fan one of which is well, you know, what he's just never healthy. But wait a second your trading. Kristaps Porzingis who is literally not playing right now because he's hurt and has been hurt quite a bit certainly more. So in recent days and Anthony Davis has been surprising to me that's been the reaction first. And last Michael junior here on ESPN radio talking to Gordon Damer on ninety eight point seven of ninety eight point seven FM in New York for me as a and that's interesting to me that it's so much of this is also tied to the Krista. Off. Because when I've thought about this deal. The perspective is always been the idea that that pick. Well, yeah, you know, obviously, especially in this current lottery system, not a guaranteed number one pick. But I've always thought of it through the lens of man, the golden goose and all this would be on just because he is such a draw. He's such a unique spectacle in his own, right. But if given the choice, I mean, Gordon for you if it came down to whatever version of current Nick players on their plus that pick if you didn't know it was eye on Zion versus Anthony Davis at this point what the reception would be like if the fans had a choice, if you had a choice between one of those players if we were to make it about that and more the pick instead of Kristaps Porzingis and the known commodity already. I think the Knicks fans, unfortunately, have deluded themselves into thinking that pick is I think that that pick is the fact that the Knicks have been this bad. And now have the worst record in the NBA. I think that they think there's much better realistic chance at the Knicks landing the number one pick than they actually do have. I mean, even you know with the new lottery odds. Basically they have an eighty five percent chance of not getting the number one pick which is pretty overwhelming. So I think knick fans have had deluded themselves into thinking while you know, what just because we're bad this year and we've suffered for so long. This is the year. I don't know if it's the realistic odds that they're looking at clearly not, but they have convinced themselves pretty much already that they're getting Zion. And look I love Zion. I'd love for you to watch him forty-one nights a year at the garden. I think it would be fantastic especially for a fan base here in New York that is just start for any morsel of good news. But I do think that they are getting a little worked up, and it's not unusual for knick fans. I've dubbed them always that they are the most delusional fan base in New York, which is saying something considering some the fan bases, but they've already convinced themselves zion's coming. Honestly, Gordon, I can't really blame them after seeing the in the in his cancer failed last night going. Well, is there a more quintessential Knicks moment than in his canter has been ventures coming in trying to so appreciation kissing the logo and then promptly. Air balling, a shot to a chorus of we want kanter's. Well, you know, what maybe he was just showing you don't want guys I can get on board with this tanking thing. If you just give me some playing time, maybe maybe it was an intentional air ball. I don't know if we're we're counting that into the equation that much. He's not been playing because the Knicks want to give some of the younger players a chance, and and certainly most importantly want to continue to lose game. So maybe that was his effort to show you know, what I can play. And we can still lose yours wanna show that you can be a team player. That's very important stuff. Enlightened takes as always you can catch more of that coming up at five AM eastern here on ninety eight point seven FM in New York. Gordon, always a pleasure, man. Thanks, Mike, Gordon gamer joining us on the shell Pennzoil performance line. They're c-. It's the spins on how before if they're talking about you and trades. That means they actually value. And like you you got a lot of time left in this league. Young man. All right guys coming up next outside of all the drama still lingering around the saints. "Actually get a win. What that one very exciting. In that process and his canter the Knicks backup center takes a bit of a tumble. In that game. Knicks by the way when one twelve one zero seven they move to four an eight on the season. But in that game and his canter takes a tumble over the top of Atlanta.
