The taste of sprinkles and tillamook ice cream, bubbled up in the back of my throat, as I leaned my body against the staircase. My feet braced for stability and the light sand gently dusting the concrete. I had my eyes fixed on a haystack rock. Just south of cannon beach organ. "Small little coastal town, 300 people, population, manzanita, Oregon. And so good way to ride out the apocalypse. Exactly. Well in the middle of nowhere. The rules there were which town, manzanita, it's like a small beach town in the Oregon coast, like south of cannon beach, north of Newport, Oregon coast at all, but beautiful, beautiful. I do. That's where I did my fist step when I was in treatment. I cannon beach. It's just north of ten miles south of there. It's close, like really close to there. Anyways, and the rule in Oregon was their closing all the beaches, all the state parks, but you could be in a beach town if you were a homeowner of that resident or whatever. So you can drive out from Portland and walk around the beach. But if you were there, you could be there. That's what the lockdown rules were. That was the first couple of months. So me, Jenna and our dog Jack. Loaded up. Loaded up our car in Wyoming, drove out. We went to Costco and bought like a hundred pounds of rice. Literally, I've never seen people have cans of chili. Yes, yes. That I bought on March 12th. Whatever. Exactly. Colin really, I really haven't seen you that scared. A scared in different ways, but in that kind of materialistic gathering, hoarding. I think it's more low key about it. But anyways, we end up in Oregon coast. And we kind of had this whole plan. I mean, Jenna had trained Jenna said I want to climb Everest, which was really cool. We can talk about that some incredible. But without, you know, she just said, not a big background that a year before that, I want to climb Everest, so we've been training for that. We do the Drake passage row, book tour, all these kind of things. Kind of that mapped out like a pretty 2020 year of doing this big documentary with discovery and there's all of a sudden just canceled canceled canceled canceled. So we find ourselves sitting in the Oregon coast, just kind of staring at each other a little bit. I mean, I think a lot of people have this experience in that, right? What do we do? What do we do now? And I'm like, in my house, you know, like this. And so in that moment, I'll be honest, you know, my mental health definitely suffered. Was not feeling good, you know, days would go by, where I'd be like, get up in my pajamas, and it'd be like 8 p.m., I'd be like still in my pajamas and be like, I guess we're just going back to sleep. And I love the organ coats, it's just special place, but it's, you know, it's rainy and dreary and it's Pacific Northwest and the spring, you know? Kill me now. It's not this LA 73 and Sony every day. And I'm sitting there and I think to myself, when was

That was the hook on BuzzFeed, written by Hannah lowenthal, and the bottom line is these are places that are wonderful locations, but they have some sort of a feel of Europe for the most part. Some of them it's obvious and some of them, I think this is new information. So if you are planning to travel this year and it's not too late because a lot of hotels have already filled up for the summer. If you're planning to travel this year or maybe next year, here we go. The first one is New Orleans, Louisiana, which is a great place to start. The French Quarter is home to crayola colored buildings, wrought iron balconies. It has a wonderful French feel. If you've never been there, there are rowdy oyster bars. There's strip clubs, of course, and live jazz music and all. It's a really different feel. There's nowhere else like it, I think, in the United States. This is one place that I have not been, but I've always wanted to go and it's the Columbia river gorge in Oregon. Oregon is one of our most beautiful states. It's only an hour from Portland, but you feel like you're in Germany, or maybe even the isle of sky, as you trek past waterfalls and cascading water into canyons. The third one, just about everybody has heard about this place. Santa Barbara, California. Now they're worried about the water situation there. So that's a heads up. But it's called the jewel of the West Coast. It's where a lot of really successful people in the movie industry live. And it's like you're traveling to a seaside town in Portugal or Spain or France, the weather is beautiful. There's hiking farm to table restaurants. It's really a fantastic place. Here's the spot that cherries been to, and I have not, for whatever reason, I've never made it to mackinac island, Michigan. How do you describe it? It's a magical place. There are no cars on the island. Everything is by bicycle. It's gorgeous. It's where the movie somewhere in time was filmed with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. It's just an incredible, magical place. Yeah, it's described as a place where you feel like you might have landed in a Swiss village, a coastal Irish town or a seaside village in the English countryside. It's very, very popular this time of the year. I've got to get there someday. Boston, Massachusetts. Of course, it is one of the most American of all cities, but it also has a similar field to London with the cobblestone streets, the brick sidewalks, the brick buildings, the lanterns that guide your way. It's a wonderful place. I've not been to leavenworth Washington, but evidently it's between the cascade mountain peaks that make up a scenic backdrop, and it's an Alpine style town. The buildings are German and Alpine inspired cuisine is heavy on sour kraut and bratwurst and it looks like a really cool place to see. Another spot that I've always wanted to go to and for whatever reason, I've been to California many, many times. I've never been to Catalina island. It's 26 miles up the coast of Los Angeles, but it feels a world away. Beachfront restaurants, palm trees lining the walkways, yachts docked in the harbor. It's just an amazing looking place. And there's a small 9 hole golf course there. The oldest city in the United States is St. Augustine. It was founded in 1565 by the Spanish. It's the longest continually inhabited European founded city in the United States. Waterfront fortress that is beautiful to see and just have you ever been? Have you ever been spent the day there once? It's another one of those places that you're just like, wow, this is a magical spot. Yeah. Yeah. Cannon beach in Oregon, Oregon shows up a lot here, is a coastal nearby coastal towns, and it is famous for feeling like it has the aura of Ireland or the cliffs of mar in the United Kingdom. It's awe inspiring. It's rugged. It's absolutely beautiful. And of course, the gorgeous Pacific Ocean is lapping against the shores there. I've been to Alaska. And so sherry, we love Alaska. Sitka Alaska is the Alaskan jewel on baranof island, and it could be easily confused with a Scandinavian fishing town, or maybe a remote Icelandic village. Everybody wants to go to Iceland. Well, you could stay in the United States without a passport and visit sitka Alaska. I think sherry and I have both been to Helen Georgia. How do you describe Helen Georgia? Helen Georgia is this awesome town that's all about Christmas and you can rent inner tubes and go tubing on the chattahoochee river, which to this day remains the single most embarrassing experience. My husband has ever had. And the whole place looks like you're in like a little Swiss village. And there's lots of Christmassy stuff and oh, it's wonderful. It's so fun. Right, it is. And you know, the feel is a little bit touristy, but it gets you. It has such charm. Fredericksburg, Texas, it was founded by German immigrants back in the 1800s and they have unique food traditions still intact. Throughout you'll find schnitzel and strudel, there's town square called the market plots and it looks really interesting as does solvang California. I hope it's pronounced that way. If you can't go to Copenhagen, this is a good place to go, founded by the Dutch, wooden windmills, authentic Dutch bakery, sausages, sounds cool, San Francisco, everybody knows what's there, Nantucket, Massachusetts is so charming. It feels like you might be in a beach town in France. The Napa Valley, I think you know, Miami, Florida, and finally my paleo Vermont. What a beautiful state Vermont is. I love it. I have friends who live there, and in mount Taylor, it has distinctly European feel. European style architecture and walkable streets. So if you can get a place this late in the season, enjoy it, you got the coins this year. It's bob and sherry. "He used to sit trucks and he grabbed dog and ate the dog gather all kinds of crazy alleged sightings and attacks that people have experienced with dude student. I will admit that night when we were told the story on the beach. I knew it was bullshit. But i still had that still kind of looking over my shoulder or waiting for the smell of rotting flesh. So gross i like mine with the little ghostly children more mason listen happy where mine is about a man who eats dogs and jumps into your car when you drive along has god to my the dog. Wanna go to cannon. Beach i do. It's beautiful there now. i really really do. I really cannot wait until we can start traveling again. 'cause like these urban legends and go stories. I really want to go. Visit the places i agree. That would be really fun. We're go story. Do you have well as you know while you may not know. Galveston is considered one of the haunted. Like most haunted places in the world. I'm it has such a rich history full of just like doom and gloom. It's a wonderful place. I grew up there by. It is scary like when you really start looking into the history of it and they have so many go stores. I can't even tell you. So what i'm to talk about today. Is the hotel galvez right now. Have you ever stayed there. not okay. we haven't either but it's yeah it's like the most famous hotel in galveston back in the day. It was called the what was it. It was the party of the south west. now it was something else. Oh the playground. The party of the southwest. What is wrong with your child. The playground of the southwest jimmy stewart had stayed there and frank sinatra and all these presidents it was just like the super duper fancy hotel. But when you start looking into the history of it it's very creepy so it's located on the seawall so it is right there on the beach and we also have like now in galveston they have pleasure pier which is like this amusement park net goes out into the water and it's right by it's like just a few blocks so it's a very popular spot but back in the early eighteen. Hundreds the aaron coa tribe native american tribes occupied the whole gulf region of texas and that included galveston. They were heavily tattooed. Had a bunch of piercings at they were cannibalistic. They use to eat the flesh of their captives in order to gain their power in their strength route so of creepy but kind of like if a happened. That's amazing. I mean i don't want to but like that is a tough ask tribe. Yeah definitely on your bad side. Make gosh and they get piercings and tattoos and no back. Then they didn't have all the the sanitary we have. Now choose live. And then ma maybe because they ate their people and got their strength Bite in eighteen seventeen. The notorious higher. It jean lafitte wrench pirate he occupied galveston from eighteen seventeen to eighteen twenty one and in eighteen nineteen some of his other fellow. Pirates kidnapped a parent kala woman and in response the tribe came to attack him while he was prepared for it and sent guns and cannons their way. Needless to say it was a bloodbath. That john lafitte one killing most of the men in the tribe and it forced them to leave the island. So that's already like this is what galveston is at this point. Okay then in eighteen fifty three. There was a huge yellow fever outbreak and approximately they're only five thousand residents in galveston and about sixty percents of them. Got it and then five hundred twenty. Three people died from it but galveston is really known for the nineteen hundred storm. Big category five hurricane came through and it killed an estimated. We don't know exactly the number but it killed an estimated six thousand people in just twelve hours. It was awful. I remember on this coast where i went online at like the The what do you call it going over the water like the bridge. my god. it's the what's that thing that goes over the water that you can like. I'm so happy not me. It's like a translate no. it's a bridge. The bridge was completely destroyed. So there is no way to get help to the island like it was just. They were on their own for a while. After this storm they had so many bodies dot they had to just throw them on these carts that horses would take to the ocean and they would bury them at sea or just dispose of them at sea honestly but there is one place. There was an orphanage called saint. Mary's orphan asylum doesn't that sound welcoming an order them an orphan asylum and i looked to see like does this mean it was crazy. Or 'cause that's kind of like we movie about that. They're probably have. If you about that. But i feel like there's the orphanage that was scary. I was scary. That was good. Yeah it's an orphan asylum. I don't know what that means. If it's just like the nice word for asylum you know like there's the nice version. Oh i'm seeing okay you so. I think it's more that instead of insane but saint mary's or asylum. It used to sit on where the hotel is currently located dots. The bite of this orphanage in during the great storm there right on the beach and this was before the seawall was built. So like i mean with those storms like when that water starts to rise it just like in the the island so this orphanage ninety orphans and ten sisters were killed in this orphanage during the storm. And can you imagine. I mean look. We've been through hurricanes. Yes i was through two or three while and i we were far. Inland and i was still terrified. Imagine being like on each when those waves are seriously so sister. Catherine tied a rope around herself and nine of the other children to keep them all together and try to get to higher ground and they were discovered still tied together they had drowned or some and so most likely the road to that seeing that win over the water today ask you mean like a roadway above water. I don't know if they made it there. So this class where the bodies were found though is supposedly where the spa at the hotel. Galvez where the spa sets. That's where the bodies found. Please tell me they've had.

"Mm Uh oh. For starry Danny. I hear that, wasn't it? Nope. That wasn't it. We have the sounder from Yes. Is the first fully loudspeaker. Listen, cinema complicit. It provides all the audio yours. That's right. You get the audio right in your chair, Danny, and that chair moves around as the movie moves around, and I'm not really sure sure that's going to be a home run. Well, I didn't think that anyone would buy it at that cost. Yes, I'll just keep going to the movies pretty well. They're really, really small. PC. I think it's They do have similar type one. So you know what? Maybe we should. You know what? I'm feeling generous today, Danny. We're going to give you the Kim Komando show Fanny pack because there's kind of almost a number one There is all right. All right. All right. So what's going on with you? How can I help you? And thanks for being a great contestant. Oh, well, sure. Thank you. Um okay. I'm an avid amateur photographer and decided after I retired to create a gallery from my photographs. So about the website to feature my photos, and I used adobe portfolio for that. And hopes to sell some of my parents and I have salt, several of them. Um, have a wider I photos ranging from Rob from the majestic to the mundane, But my main interest is in restoring all photographs, old discolored pictures with stains, terrorism scratches. Um he's a good post just need a little loving attention and Photoshop tools to restore them to their original view. Um, I can also make Prince from slides or film strips. People may have lying around when they had prints made from them. Um, but right now, I'm only getting about Of water to requests a month or so. And I would like to increase that at least a couple of weeks and both for the restoration services and the apprentice from slides or prints from strip services. Um, now, you know, Let me tell you. You sent me an email and I went and I checked out your portfolio. Okay. Uh, you are really talented. You really are, um There's the one picture. It's like a beach. Is that Mexico with it like this big? There's like a huge rock in a little rock. Where is that? It was it It was a woman thinking about really this Cannon beach. Okay, it's I think it's next to you have one reminds me of Hawaii and you know, I love Hawaii. Uh, flower in a vase, and you're kind of an interesting angle looking at it, right? That is there is a prime area. Oh, wow. It's beautiful. You are very talented, Okay? Let's talk about Let's talk about setting you up in business. Um, this is you know, I do have I do have a presence on Facebook and I'm on next door and I recently, added Instagram Business account. Awesome, but I need to figure out where to go from there. Well, we need to with photo restoration. Uh, there is a site that what they do is they have it And I don't wanna give the site out on the air, but I'll put it inside. Um, the Q and a forum. And I'll actually will email it to you for everybody else. Okay, but what they do, is they have they fix photos, okay? And so there's a slider on the page you cited from left to right so you can see what the photo looked like when he got it. And then what? The photo looks like when he fixed it. So you can see all the work that got that goes into this. So, Yeah, I've seen that. All right. So you know what I'm talking about? Okay, so So what we're gonna do is on your Facebook and now your instagram account is that you start showing just that This is what it looked like before, and this is what it looked like that for because that's a That's it. That's a a testimonial, so to speak, right? That this is the ability of Danny's San Antonio that he can do magic where the rest of us are like. We don't know where to even start and we don't want to learn Photoshopped or anything like that, because that's a pain in the neck, and that takes a long time. Okay, so So what you have to do now is we're gonna set you have to set yourself up as the photo restoration expert, okay? So Danny is now the photo restoration expert. Uh And so Danny needs a YouTube channel. Where you start giving people little lessons about photo restoration, and I can tell them how to do it. You're just gonna give him a little lesson. And so the whole idea is that Google's the number one search site YouTube's number two. Is that somebody when they type in how to restore photo? They get your tutorial, But then you're going to say Hey, listen, I can do all this for you for 25 bucks or 50 bucks or whatever may be okay and so, and those type of videos that you're also going to share On Facebook inside Facebook groups, you know, start joining some photo restoration groups some genealogy groups to is, If people are doing genealogy. They've got a lot of old photos. And accordingly you know, your instagram story can be part of your little tutorials to, um I want you to start collecting email addresses, Uh, for people that you can use it with constant contact with male chimps so that you now start having a, uh, you know, having an email marketing campaign. Uh, you know, Christmas is coming up and so you know, old photos make great gifts. Let me restore them for you. So, Yeah, You start a campaign like that last Christmas and then did it again on for Mother's Day and I got I got some success from it. Well, that's awesome. That's awesome. And so you start thinking about all these different marketing ideas, and it's really not that hard, You know, especially on Facebook is that you can really find tuna. You can drill down to find somebody who is really doing something particular something very specific. Like genealogy. Yeah, and they have a whole bunch of old photos. And maybe it might even be worth Danny is that you're there in San Antonio? W O A. I is in San Antonio. You reach out to that radio station. They're proud affiliates of the Kim Commandos show and you say, Hey, listen to any of your hosts have any old photos and I'll restore him. Hey, what would that be Great for a host to get on the air and say Wow, Look at what this guy did. And here's how you check them out. You know So something about some grass roots marketing, you know, in addition to pay per click and other ones, but think about some grassroots market you have as you start going through all these ideas, I want you to call me back. Okay. I'm just right now. We're just scratching the surface. And then we can get into more details. And Danny once again Thanks for your call. And congrats on the wind on brand new are not true. Coming right back. We have our digital privacy tip. You don't want to miss.

"Welcome back on this weather War night After this extremely quiet September afternoon. We have thunderstorms brewing, though, believe it or not, They're just going to ripple right over the top of us. As most of us are asleep, you might be rattled awake by some crashing and booming out there. Not everybody will see the thunder and lightning, but it certainly is possible in the cards for many of us tonight in western Washington. This is the view as captured by Thomas Lie of the Milky Way. And some beautiful views of the planets and the stars out there where you don't have any of that light pollution from the city way on up at the visitor center at Mount right near a beautiful September late summer night up there right now, but that's also going to be a great vantage point. To watch some of these thunderstorms as they roll on into western Washington. Almost everybody gets a little bit of rain. Some of us will also see or maybe hear the thunder and the lightning as it pushes past us in Puget Sound here over the next couple of hours is currently 67 notice the humidity coming up it does that every night anyway, But it will be more noticeable overnight because well, Have that cloud covered a tech in the heat, and the precipitation is going to bring that humidity up even a little bit more on the satellite and radar picture. You can see the leading edge of this disturbances. It starts to lean in from over the ocean and over Oregon, where it's already been pushing on by historian Cannon Beach Tonight, you can see that heavier rain at times, with some hail or some lightning around Newport and back toward Lincoln City and Tillamook, too. Eventually it curls in our direction and just a little bit of light rain so far for us here in the southwest interior extending from to Hola and McCleery back down toward the Long Beach Peninsula, el wacko and the will of the hills temps right now, primarily sixties stay kind of warm overnight tonight as those clouds start to tuck us in and eventually start to leak a little bit of precipitation. So again, A look at the weather maker and the timing on this rain. We check this out a few minutes ago. But here's the review in case you miss it. Missed it. This area low pressure, just a little summer disturbance with an associated Cold front here and there. You see the line of showers where they're sitting at the moment through the western section of Oregon. This front continues to move pretty quickly such that it lines on up right over the top of Puget Sound by about two or three o'clock in the morning and notice it's coming in from south to north. So we get the rain in the South end first. Then it marches over. Olympia Tacoma makes its way up the I five corridor until it exits out of the state and out of the country for that matter across the border into British Columbia by early tomorrow morning. So rain totals because we certainly could use some rain. It's been so dry for months on end. We're talking about at least a couple of drops in most of our gauges, but most respectable around Friday Harbor and Forks where we should pick up a good 10th of an inch during the overnight period. So overnight tonight, again a chance for the rain for sure, and then a slim chance for some thunder and lightning for some of us in the mix as well. Overnight lows fifties to low sixties so kind of mild compared to what we had last week. Remember, we were falling in the forties pretty routine late last week, so this time around, it's going to be a little bit warmer. And then tomorrow it's a memory again. We've got the sunshine we had today. We've got sunshine tomorrow. So it's nice to get the rain out of the way during the overnight where it doesn't get in your outdoor plans in the way of that are in the way of your morning or evening commutes, either. Be a great day tomorrow attempts back into the mid seventies in Tacoma Close to 80 out of SA Kwan back toward Monroe through the Strait again, you get the rain and maybe some thunder and lightning very early in the morning, eventually back to 71 in Anacortes and upper sixties at a Port Angeles Ocean beaches already raining now, not tomorrow, it's bright and blue with 64 around Long Beach and back into the low eighties Iran Castle rock And then in eastern Washington. A few of these passing showers perhaps surround Shaolin or back into. Oh, Mac overnight, always a little worrisome because of the chance for lightning when we have such high fire danger, But by tomorrow afternoon, bright and blue and very warm mid nineties again, it is definitely still summer there in the tri cities. So again, Mary, we've got the weather worn label up here for the overnight because of the chance for the widely scattered thunderstorms. And then tomorrow it's kind of hot, little bit sticky again. High schools to 80 on our Wednesday afternoon cooling, though, to just write conditions as we head toward the end of the week and look at that weekend as well, low to mid seventies.

"So we're going to start off with some fun and celebrations. What are we celebrating today today. September first is national no ram no reason day no rhyme nor reason ram nor reason. I do random things with no reasons. That's right actually. The primary part of this day is it recognizes words that do not rhyme with any other words in the english language. Wow i totally would have misinterpreted the title of this date. That's the ram heart. No reason there's no reason for neurons. Everything should run rhyming. Refers words that sound similar and rhyming has existed for many many centuries used by poets and all different languages to rights ballots and sonnets and one of the earliest rams is found in the tenth century. In china it is known as the chinese xi zhang and then he religious texts also use ramming words rhyming started to increase dramatically during the sixth and seventh centuries. Wendy arabic and irish used rhyming words form tunes in the written tech's arabic and irish. Those two very similar cultures just decided to. I don't think the that they were collaborating wasn't a collab- as i think it was independent of each other. Okay but i think it helps in remembering jingles and ear worms and all kinds of things like that but back to the premise of the day of no words that rhyme there are some words. And i have a list starting off number one orange. My favorite color. Nothing rhymes with orange. Aren't you glad is so unique. Yes i am and month. I so much. Like i'm gonna prove wrong. Oh yeah came out with was a in stolen lists so they're wrong and ainhoa meet silver. It's so weird like spirit chimney so proud of yourself around like our. I'm with you. i'm thinking. I know something around with that. Might i guess. I don't chimney like maybe it's windy. Which is not a word. Well i can make up words. I do it all the time. Purple to colors may the list one and ninth trying to think. If i could sentence that used all of those words and it was a completely undrivable. Sentence could never be what of pregnancy wearing. A purple hat slid down the chimney. Her spirit was imminent with the silver things. She clashed into which he came down the chimney that happened last month to when she brought the oranges. Speaking of improv. Now you come up with your own list and start sharing up with that list. But i came up with linked altogether. That's you we would love. Here's history well so you can drop those words your conversations today and act like that can't be rhymes because it's no rhyme or reason days right so ram time so beach is a word. That's pretty easy to rhyme with snitch. Snitch who's the best niches on the beaches. Peach teach leach beach reach. It's accessible in rhyming. And one of my favorite places to go love the beach. My favorite thing like so waiting for the payoff of accessible aren't you. My favorite thing is to take long walks on an empty beach in the early morning or at sunset but for those in wheelchairs a walk on the beach or role of each is pretty much impossible. I am a cyclist. But i am not going to ride my road bike on the beach because those little narrow tires. They just don't work in this. Have the same issue with wheelchairs beach. Bicycles have big fat tires and beach. Wheelchairs due to google problem. Is that unless you live at the beach getting a beach wheelchair for someone who just as there on a vacation is kind of not really practical than you're paying. They're not. They're not going to buy one and for your vacation on the beach but randy anderson of seaside oregon changed that along his coast in june presentation to his city council. He said this. I would like to propose to the city of seaside to begin a long needed service in a free of charge. Beach wheelchair program to help people experiencing mobility disabilities to be able to safely and easily access our beaches typical wheelchairs and san do not mix. I have walked down the prom and seeing people with mobility issues looking out at the beach wishing they could get out there. It's just heartbreaking to see we'll fund rentals which is a local surrey. Rental company for jones Yes exactly that kind of surrey donated to beach wheelchairs and was handling the checkout process.
